But both history and valuation metrics unequivocally suggest that a big drop is upcoming for the stock market.
\n
History is pretty clear that trouble lies ahead
\n
For example, there have beenone or two double-digit percentage declineswithin the three years following a bottom in each of the previous eight bear markets prior to the coronavirus crash (i.e., dating back to 1960). Although bull markets tend to last years, rebounds from a bear market are never this smooth. We're nearly 15 months past the March 2020 bear-market bottom in the S&P 500 and have yet to see anything close to a double-digit correction.
\n
To add to this point, data from market analytics firm Yardeni Research shows that there have been 38 double-digit declines in the S&P 500 over the past 71 years. That's a crash or correction, on average, every 1.87 years. Though the market doesn't adhere to averages, it does give a general sense of when to expect these hiccups.
\n
On a valuation basis, the S&P 500's Shiller price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is a waving red flag. The S&P 500's Shiller P/E -- a measure of inflation-adjusted earnings over the previous 10 years -- almost hit 38 earlier this week. That more than doubles its 151-year average, and it's the highest level in nearly two decades. The previous four times the Shiller P/E surpassed and held above 30 during a bull market rally, the indexsubsequently declined by a minimum of 20%.
\n
Make no mistake about it -- a stock market crash is coming.
\n
Every crash or correction is an opportunity for patient investors to make money
\n
However, a crash is no reason to duck and cover. While history may signal trouble ahead, it also tells us that each and every double-digit decline has been a buying opportunity. Eventually, every big drop in the major indexes is erased by a bull-market rally. When the next crash does occur, the following five high-conviction stocks can be confidently bought hand over fist.
\n
CrowdStrike Holdings
\n
Cybersecurity is projected to beone of the safest double-digit growth trendsthis decade. No matter the size of the business or the state of the U.S./global economy, protecting enterprise and consumer data is paramount. This means cloud-based cybersecurity stockCrowdStrike Holdings(NASDAQ:CRWD)can thrive in any environment.
\n
CrowdStrike's successderives from its cloud-native Falcon security platform. Because it's built in the cloud and relies on artificial intelligence, it's growing smarter at identifying and responding to threats all the time. It's currently overseeing 6 trillion events on a weekly basis, and it's far more cost-effective at protecting data than on-premise solutions.
\n
We can also look to the company's income statements to see clear-cut evidence that businesses favor CrowdStrike's cybersecurity platform. It's been retaining 98% of its clients, has seen existing clients spend 23% to 47% more on a year-over-year basis for the past 12 quarters, and recently reported that 64% of its customers have purchased at least four cloud module subscriptions. Scaling with its customers is CrowdStrike's ticket to big-time cash flow expansion.
\n
Facebook
\n
Brand-name businesses can make patient investors a fortune, and social media giantFacebook(NASDAQ:FB)is the perfect example.
\n
When the curtain closed on March, Facebook tallied 2.85 billion monthly active users (MAU) visiting its namesake site and an additional 600 million unique MAUs visiting WhatsApp or Instagram, which it also owns. All told, this equates to44% of the global populationinteracting with its owned sites each month. There's simply no social media platform businesses can go to get their message to a broader (or potentially targeted) audience, which is why Facebook ad-pricing power is so strong.
\n
But here's the kicker: Facebookhasn't even put the pedal to the metal. Although it's on track to generate more than $100 billion in advertising revenue in 2021, nearly all of these ad sales are coming from its namesake site and Instagram. WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, which are two of the six most-visited social sites in the world, aren't being meaningfully monetized as of yet. Further, the company's Oculus virtual reality devices are still in the early stage of their growth. Suffice it to say, Facebook offers ample upside as its other operating segments are monetized and mature.
\n
NextEra Energy
\n
Another high-conviction stock to buy hand over fist the next time a crash or steep correction strikes is electric utility stockNextEra Energy(NYSE:NEE).
\n
Did I put you to sleep when I said \"electric utility stock?\" Electric utilities are traditionally known for their market-topping dividend yields and persistently low growth rates. But this doesn't describe NextEra Energy. NextEra has aggressively invested in renewable energy projects and is leading the country in solar and wind capacity. As a result of these investments, its electric generation costs have declined and its compound annual growth ratehas consistently been in the high single digitsfor more than a decade. It also doesn't hurt that NextEra is front-running any potential green-energy legislation that might come out of Washington.
\n
In addition to growth rates that are well above the sector average, NextEra still benefits from the predictability of energy demand. For instance, its regulated utilities (i.e., those not powered by renewable energy) require approval from state utility commissions before price hikes can be passed along to households. This might sound like an inconvenience, but it's actually great news. It means NextEra won't be exposed to potentially volatile wholesale pricing.
\n
Visa
\n
When the next stock market crash arrives, payment processing kingpinVisa(NYSE:V)is a winning company to confidently buy hand over fist. It's also another brand-name company thatcan still make its shareholders a fortune.
\n
Buying into the Visa growth story is a simple numbers game. Visa grows its revenue and profits when consumers and businesses are spending more. This happens when the U.S. and global economy are expanding. Although contractions and recessions are an inevitable part of the economic cycle, they tend to be short-lived. Meanwhile, periods of economic expansion are almost always measured in years. Buying into Visa during these short-lived crashes or corrections should allow long-term investors to be handsomely rewarded by this numbers game.
\n
The other interesting thing about Visa is thatit's shunned becoming a lender. You'd think that Visa could generate big bucks from interest income and fees by lending during these long-lived periods of expansion. But lending would also expose Visa to the credit delinquencies that arise during recessions. Operating solely as a payment processor means not having to set aside cash to cover delinquencies. It's why Visa rebounds so much faster than most financial stocks following a recession.
\n
Amazon
\n
Lastly (andwho couldn't see this coming?), investors should take any discount they can get during a crash on e-commerce behemothAmazon(NASDAQ:AMZN).
\n
Amazon's online marketplace has proved virtually unstoppable for well over a decade. An April 2021 report from eMarketer pegged the company's share of U.S. online sales at 40.4%. That more than quintuples its next-closest competitor and effectively solidifies Amazon as the go-to source for online shopping in the U.S.
\n
What about those pesky low retail margins, you ask? Amazon has signed up more than 200 million people globally to a Prime membership. The fees collected from Prime members help to offset some of the company's retail-based margin weakness. Prime members are extremely loyal to the Amazon ecosystem and spend far more than non-members, too.
\n
But it's Amazon's cloud infrastructure segmentthat's the superstar. Amazon Web Services (AWS) brings in around one-eighth of the company's total sales but accounts for well over half its operating income. Since cloud margins are superior to retail and advertising margins, AWS is the company's key to explosive cash flow growth this decade.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
A Stock Market Crash Is Coming: 5 High-Conviction Stocks to Buy Hand Over Fist When It Happens
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nA Stock Market Crash Is Coming: 5 High-Conviction Stocks to Buy Hand Over Fist When It Happens\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-20 09:15 GMT+8 fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
It might be the last thing you want to hear, but it's the truth:A stock market crash is inevitable.\nSince the March 23, 2020 bottom, investors have enjoyed a historically strong bounce-back rally -- ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMZN":"亚马逊","V":"Visa","NEP":"Nextera Energy Partners","CRWD":"CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc."},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/06/19/stock-market-crash-coming-5-high-conviction-stocks/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1126454279","content_text":"It might be the last thing you want to hear, but it's the truth:A stock market crash is inevitable.\nSince the March 23, 2020 bottom, investors have enjoyed a historically strong bounce-back rally -- the widely followedS&P 500(SNPINDEX:^GSPC)has gained an impressive 90%. The stock ticker \"DWAC\" trended on Twitter following the announcement.
\n
As the news goes viral, here are the answers to burning questions about the art of Trump's latest deal.
\n
So what is a SPAC, again?
\n
SPACs were a nearly dormant financial tool for taking companies public until right around the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, at which point the market became a feeding frenzy for investors, speculators, and retail traders looking to cash in on private companies with big potential for growth.
\n
A SPAC is just a small public company with a whole lot of cash that has one simple goal: to take a private company public. They are also known as \"blank-check\" companies and the process for a company to go public via SPAC can be easier than the traditional IPO route.
\n
To form a SPAC, a few people, often former bankers or corporate executives and sometimes celebrities, get together in the hopes of finding a worthwhile private company. First, the SPAC goes public, issuing shares and raising money from investors. SPAC shares are usually sold at $10 apiece - just like in the case of Trump Media's Digital World Acquisition Corp. SPAC, which raised about $283 million in its IPO, according to a filing with regulators.
\n
That war chest of cash will eventually be used to strike a deal with a target company. Digital World Acquisition found Trump Media & Technology Group.
\n
DWAC stock is up how much?
\n
357% at Thursday's close! Intraday, it was up even more, gaining more than 400% before pulling back.
\n
We've seen SPAC stocks go wild after announcing the target company - but not this wild. SPAC stocks normally jump after the deal is announced, even though the target company isn't public yet (shareholders still need to give the thumbs up).
\n
The stock closed Thursday at $45.50, up from $9.96 the previous day. It was the most-traded stock on the market Thursday, with over 470 million shares changing hands.
\n
Who's behind this SPAC?
\n
Patrick Orlando is the SPAC's CEO. He's a former investment banker and has a hefty background in the SPAC business (he's been part of three before this one). The company's chief financial officer is Luis Orleans-Braganza, who currently serves on Brazil's National Congress.
\n
If you haven't heard of either of them, you may have heard of some of the high flying hedge funds that have invested in the SPAC, like Highbridge Capital Management, Lighthouse Partners, K2 Principal Fund, and Saba Capital Management. They all likely made a killing on Thursday's wild price action.
\n
So what's going on here?
\n
Basically, Orlando incorporated Digital World Acquisition in Miami about a month after Trump lost the election, with the goal of merging with a \"leading emerging growth technology company.\"
\n
Then today, his SPAC announced it would be taking Trump Media & Technology Group public, on the condition of shareholder approval.
\n
But unlike in other SPAC mergers where the target company discloses its financial statements or future revenue potential, the Trump Media & Technology Group doesn't have much in the way of financial projections - even though it got a $1.7 billion valuation in the merger.
\n
The goal of the future company is to \"create a rival to the liberal media consortium and fight back against the 'Big Tech' companies of Silicon Valley, which have used their unilateral power to silence opposing voices in America.\" The first step is launching a new site called Truth Social.
\n
What is Truth Social?
\n
That remains to be seen. The future social media site hasn't actually launched yet, but it has a waitlist. The statement said the eventual site aims to \"stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.
\n
Trump has been wanting to get back on social media since being banned from Twitter and Facebook following the January 6 insurrection - and it hasn't been easy. At first, he tried sending tweets from other people's accounts. Then he launched a blog called \"From the Desk of Donald J. Trump\" that flopped.
\n
\"We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable,\" he said. \"I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all.\"
\n
A beta version of the site could launch as soon as November 2021.
\n
Is this thing for real?
\n
Even so, Trump's company going public is all dependent on shareholder approval. According to Julian Klymochko who runs a SPAC-focused exchange-traded fund, he's never seen a SPAC deal get voted down. Shareholders are incentivized to approve it because of assets called warrants that they receive at the beginning of the SPAC. No deal, and those warrants are worthless.
\n
Is this the next meme stock?
\n
If price action is any indication, it might already be a meme. The stock ticker \"DWAC\" trended on Twitter following the announcement.\nAs the news goes viral, here are the answers to burning questions about the art of Trump's latest deal.\nSo what is a SPAC, again?\nSPACs were a nearly dormant financial tool for taking companies public until right around the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, at which point the market became a feeding frenzy for investors, speculators, and retail traders looking to cash in on private companies with big potential for growth.\nA SPAC is just a small public company with a whole lot of cash that has one simple goal: to take a private company public. They are also known as \"blank-check\" companies and the process for a company to go public via SPAC can be easier than the traditional IPO route.\nTo form a SPAC, a few people, often former bankers or corporate executives and sometimes celebrities, get together in the hopes of finding a worthwhile private company. First, the SPAC goes public, issuing shares and raising money from investors. SPAC shares are usually sold at $10 apiece - just like in the case of Trump Media's Digital World Acquisition Corp. SPAC, which raised about $283 million in its IPO, according to a filing with regulators.\nThat war chest of cash will eventually be used to strike a deal with a target company. Digital World Acquisition found Trump Media & Technology Group.\nDWAC stock is up how much?\n357% at Thursday's close! Intraday, it was up even more, gaining more than 400% before pulling back.\nWe've seen SPAC stocks go wild after announcing the target company - but not this wild. SPAC stocks normally jump after the deal is announced, even though the target company isn't public yet (shareholders still need to give the thumbs up).\nThe stock closed Thursday at $45.50, up from $9.96 the previous day. It was the most-traded stock on the market Thursday, with over 470 million shares changing hands.\nWho's behind this SPAC?\nPatrick Orlando is the SPAC's CEO. He's a former investment banker and has a hefty background in the SPAC business (he's been part of three before this one). The company's chief financial officer is Luis Orleans-Braganza, who currently serves on Brazil's National Congress.\nIf you haven't heard of either of them, you may have heard of some of the high flying hedge funds that have invested in the SPAC, like Highbridge Capital Management, Lighthouse Partners, K2 Principal Fund, and Saba Capital Management. They all likely made a killing on Thursday's wild price action.\nSo what's going on here?\nBasically, Orlando incorporated Digital World Acquisition in Miami about a month after Trump lost the election, with the goal of merging with a \"leading emerging growth technology company.\"\nThen today, his SPAC announced it would be taking Trump Media & Technology Group public, on the condition of shareholder approval.\nBut unlike in other SPAC mergers where the target company discloses its financial statements or future revenue potential, the Trump Media & Technology Group doesn't have much in the way of financial projections - even though it got a $1.7 billion valuation in the merger.\nThe goal of the future company is to \"create a rival to the liberal media consortium and fight back against the 'Big Tech' companies of Silicon Valley, which have used their unilateral power to silence opposing voices in America.\" The first step is launching a new site called Truth Social.\nWhat is Truth Social?\nThat remains to be seen. The future social media site hasn't actually launched yet, but it has a waitlist. The statement said the eventual site aims to \"stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.\nTrump has been wanting to get back on social media since being banned from Twitter and Facebook following the January 6 insurrection - and it hasn't been easy. At first, he tried sending tweets from other people's accounts. Then he launched a blog called \"From the Desk of Donald J. Trump\" that flopped.\n\"We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable,\" he said. \"I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all.\"\nA beta version of the site could launch as soon as November 2021.\nIs this thing for real?\nEven so, Trump's company going public is all dependent on shareholder approval. According to Julian Klymochko who runs a SPAC-focused exchange-traded fund, he's never seen a SPAC deal get voted down. Shareholders are incentivized to approve it because of assets called warrants that they receive at the beginning of the SPAC. No deal, and those warrants are worthless.\nIs this the next meme stock?\nIf price action is any indication, it might already be a meme. On top of that, retail traders are piling on, a necessary prerequisite for a stock to achieve meme status.According to Bloomberg, Fidelity logged 55,000 buy orders for shares of the SPAC on Thursday.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":650,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":893444251,"gmtCreate":1628297823773,"gmtModify":1633751906109,"author":{"id":"3586937342194873","authorId":"3586937342194873","name":"gsr45","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5737c351325217c4f4672346f37ad81e","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586937342194873","authorIdStr":"3586937342194873"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"another FUD article... bears are always there good time or bad times ","listText":"another FUD article... bears are always there good time or bad times ","text":"another FUD article... bears are always there good time or bad times","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/893444251","repostId":"1124487485","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1124487485","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1628258241,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1124487485?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-06 21:57","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here’s another sign the bull market is near a peak, and this one bears watching","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1124487485","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"S&P 500 sectors’ relative strength rankings are flashing red.\n\nThe U.S. stock market is nearing a to","content":"
\n S&P 500 sectors’ relative strength rankings are flashing red.\n
\n
The U.S. stock market is nearing a top, according to a leading indicator that is based on the trailing three-month returns of the S&P 500 SPX, +0.08% sectors.
\n
Over the three months prior to past bull-market tops, a fairly predictable pattern emerged of which sectors performed best and which fared worst. The correlation coefficient between the relative strength ranking that then prevailed and the historical pattern stood at 0.43; the current reading is higher and so even more bearish.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":322,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":890338503,"gmtCreate":1628082496302,"gmtModify":1633753789210,"author":{"id":"3586937342194873","authorId":"3586937342194873","name":"gsr45","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5737c351325217c4f4672346f37ad81e","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586937342194873","authorIdStr":"3586937342194873"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"need to see how bonds react which in turn impacts stocks but then again market always play punk ","listText":"need to see how bonds react which in turn impacts stocks but then again market always play punk ","text":"need to see how bonds react which in turn impacts stocks but then again market always play punk","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/890338503","repostId":"1139595517","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":7,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":851635334,"gmtCreate":1634901486918,"gmtModify":1634901815402,"author":{"id":"3586937342194873","authorId":"3586937342194873","name":"gsr45","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5737c351325217c4f4672346f37ad81e","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586937342194873","authorIdStr":"3586937342194873"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/851635334","repostId":"1101284007","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":760,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":890259289,"gmtCreate":1628121161541,"gmtModify":1633753472687,"author":{"id":"3586937342194873","authorId":"3586937342194873","name":"gsr45","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5737c351325217c4f4672346f37ad81e","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586937342194873","authorIdStr":"3586937342194873"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"want to write something intelligent but 13% drop...faints...","listText":"want to write something intelligent but 13% drop...faints...","text":"want to write something intelligent but 13% drop...faints...","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/890259289","repostId":"2157488723","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":78,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":806827693,"gmtCreate":1627650650912,"gmtModify":1633757449289,"author":{"id":"3586937342194873","authorId":"3586937342194873","name":"gsr45","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5737c351325217c4f4672346f37ad81e","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586937342194873","authorIdStr":"3586937342194873"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[喷血] ","listText":"[喷血] ","text":"[喷血]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/806827693","repostId":"1177914270","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1177914270","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1627650457,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1177914270?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-30 21:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Nvidia shares dived 3.2% in premarket trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1177914270","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Nvidia shares dived 3.2% in premarket trading.China antitrust officials delay review of Nvidia’s $40 Billion Arm Acquisition, according to The Information.","content":"
Nvidia shares dived 3.2% in premarket trading.China antitrust officials delay review of Nvidia’s $40 Billion Arm Acquisition, according to The Information.
\n

\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; But both history and valuation metrics unequivocally suggest that a big drop is upcoming for the stock market.
