The print is expected to show an acceleration in rehiring and a step lower in the unemployment rate, helping alleviate some of the labor shortages reported across the economy as of late.
\n
Non-farm payrolls likely grew by 700,000 in June, according to Bloomberg consensus data. This would accelerate from the 559,000 added back in May and mark the biggest rise since March. And the unemployment rate is expected to move down to 5.6% from 5.8% in May, bringing the jobless rate closer to its pre-pandemic, 50-year low of 3.5%.
\n
\"Payrolls probably surged again in June, with the pace up from the +559,000 in May,\" TD Securities strategists wrote in a note Friday. \"Some acceleration in the private sector is suggested by the Homebase data, while government payrolls probably benefited from fewer than usual end-of-school-year layoffs.\"
\n
Even with a sizable monthly payroll gain, the economy would still be well off its pre-pandemic levels of employment. Heading into June, the U.S. economy was still down by more than 7 million payrolls compared to February 2020, with the deficit most pronounced in high-contact services industries like restaurants and hotels.
\n
But both services and manufacturing companies have cited shortages of qualified workers to fill open positions, which hit a record high of over 9 million as of latest data. These supply-and-demand mismatches in the labor market – with shortages noted by firms from FedEx (FDX) to Yum Brands (YUM) — have also begun to push wages higher and created additional costs for businesses. In Friday's report, average hourly earnings are expected to jump 3.6% year-on-year for June, accelerating from May's 2% increase.
\n
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 03: A pedestrian walks by a Now Hiring sign outside of a Lamps Plus store on June 03, 2021 in San Francisco, California. By being the first major U.S. bank to begin trading cryptocurrency, Goldman is essentially giving other banks cover to begin doing so as well, said Vanderwilt, a former Goldman partner whojoinedGalaxy last year.\n\"There's a whole dynamic with the major banks that I've seen time and time again: safety in numbers,\" Vanderwilt said this week in an interview. \"Once one bank is out there doing this, the other banks will have [fear of missing out] and they'll get on-boarded because their clients have been asking for it.\"\nGalaxy was scheduled to announce Friday that it will serve as Goldman's \"liquidity provider\" – Wall Street parlance for a company that provides quotes for buy and sell orders – onCME Groupbitcoin futures. Last month, in a memofirst reportedby CNBC, Goldman said it would sign on \"new liquidity providers to help us in expanding our offering.\"\n\"Our goal is to equip our clients with best-execution pricing and secure access to the assets they want to trade,\" Max Minton, head of digital assets for Goldman's Asia-Pacific region, said in a statement. \"In 2021, this now includes crypto, and we are pleased to have found a partner with a broad range of liquidity venues and differentiated derivatives capabilities spanning the cryptocurrency ecosystem.\"\nGoldman is leaning on Galaxy for access to the crypto world because the highly regulated banking industry can't handle bitcoin directly, according to Vanderwilt.\nBut nothing prevents banks from dealing in financial wagers tied to the price of the underlying coins, and so that is where Wall Street is starting its crypto journey. There are parallels in the commodities realm, in which banks trade exposure to hogs or corn without owning the physical asset, he said.\nGalaxy, whose management ranks arestockedwith ex-Goldman executives familiar with running regulated businesses, positions itself as a bridge for financial companies and crypto venues. The firm, whose shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, will likely offer shares in the U.S. this year.\nIt's a step toward the vision that Vanderwilt and the other former Goldman executives have for the development of bitcoin's market infrastructure. As more banks allow clients including hedge funds, pensions, family offices and sovereign wealth funds to trade bitcoin, the depth and breadth of the market improves, which ultimately should lower bitcoin's famous volatility, he said.\n\"You're moving the market participants from being north of 90% retail, a huge chunk of which have access toridiculous amountsof leverage, into an institutional community, who have proper, tried-and-tested rules and regulations about leverage, asset-liability mismatch and risk,\" Vanderwilt said. \"The more activity that moves into the institutional community, the less volatility there will be.\"\nBanks will be able to offer clients ways to wager on bitcoin using derivatives, taking a page from the world of established finance, he said. That includes arbitrage bets related to the price gap between CME bitcoin futures and bitcoin itself, relative value trades between bitcoin and ethereum, and the creation of bitcoin structured notes.\nGoldman's steps in cryptocurrency trading are happening despite sustained skepticism toward bitcoin from other parts of the firm. Most notably, the bank'schief investment officerfor wealth management has called bitcoin abubblethat isn't appropriate for investors.\nBut if enough trading clients ask for a product, investment banks are obliged to provide it, a dynamic that Vanderwilt has seen in other nascent markets around the world during his two decades at Goldman.\n\"If the phone rings enough times and clients are trying to get exposure, you eventually figure out how to do it for them safely, understanding that your role in the world is to intermediate exposure safely, not to act as a fiduciary,\" he said.\nThe milestone brings Vanderwilt full circle with his former life. In 2017, as a senior Goldman trading executive, he was tasked with helping start thebank's first effortto trade bitcoin futures, a plan that was later shelved. Now he's helping make it happen from his position at Galaxy.\n\"There's a lot of irony, I smile about it a lot,\" Vanderwilt said. \"But I'm really happy, it's a happy full circle.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":299,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160376535,"gmtCreate":1623773708727,"gmtModify":1634028439915,"author":{"id":"3586863446702582","authorId":"3586863446702582","name":"kj1234","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d429c1d423b4f758c14e073337450edc","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586863446702582","authorIdStr":"3586863446702582"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read","listText":"Good read","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160376535","repostId":"1174890666","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":319,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160378565,"gmtCreate":1623773688357,"gmtModify":1634028440721,"author":{"id":"3586863446702582","authorId":"3586863446702582","name":"kj1234","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d429c1d423b4f758c14e073337450edc","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586863446702582","authorIdStr":"3586863446702582"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read","listText":"Good read","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160378565","repostId":"2143730319","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":186,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160343800,"gmtCreate":1623773430900,"gmtModify":1634028451970,"author":{"id":"3586863446702582","authorId":"3586863446702582","name":"kj1234","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d429c1d423b4f758c14e073337450edc","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586863446702582","authorIdStr":"3586863446702582"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read","listText":"Good read","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160343800","repostId":"1163671123","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":276,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160349161,"gmtCreate":1623773410953,"gmtModify":1634028452895,"author":{"id":"3586863446702582","authorId":"3586863446702582","name":"kj1234","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d429c1d423b4f758c14e073337450edc","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586863446702582","authorIdStr":"3586863446702582"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read","listText":"Good read","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160349161","repostId":"1167457915","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1167457915","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1623750756,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1167457915?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-15 17:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Novavax Vs. Pfizer Vs. Moderna: How COVID-19 Vaccines Stack Up","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1167457915","media":"Benzinga","summary":"It was \"better late than never\" for Novavax, Inc.NVAX, as the biopharma finally got around to announ","content":"
It was \"better late than never\" for Novavax, Inc.NVAX, as the biopharma finally got around to announcing interim results from the U.S. and Mexico leg of the Phase 3 study of NVX-CoV2371, its vaccine candidate against the novel coronavirus.
\n
Here's a comparative perspective of the vaccine candidates from Novavax, and the frontrunners, namelyPfizer Inc.PFE 0.05%-BioNTech SEBNTXandModerna, Inc.MRNA, both of which have authorized vaccines in the market.
\n
Vaccine Type: Novavax's NVX-CoV2371 is a recombinant nano-particle protein-based COVID-19 vaccine that is packaged with the company's proprietary Matrix-M adjuvant.
\n
The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna products are mRNA vaccines, or modern vaccines that work by using a genetic code called mRNA that instructs our immune cells to make spike protein, which is found on the surface of the virus that causes COVID-19.
\n
This spike protein, though harmless, is capable of triggering our immune system to produce antibodies that offer protection against future infection.
\n
Novavax's vaccine is a protein adjuvant that contains the spike protein of the coronavirus itself, but formulated as a nanoparticle that cannot cause disease. The injected vaccine then stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies and T-cell immune responses.
\n
The Vaccine Doses: The vaccines from each of the three companies require two doses. Each dose consists of 30 mcg for Pfizer and 100 mcg for Moderna, while for Novavax, each vaccine dose consists of 5 mcg of NVX-CoV2371 and 50 mcg of Matrix-M1 adjuvant that are co-formulated.
\n
The interval between the two doses — the priming and booster dose — is 21 days each for Pfizer and Novavax and 28 days for Moderna.
\n
The Target Population: The original late-stage trial of Pfizer-BioNTech evaluated the vaccine in participants ages 16 years and older. The trial enrolled 43,448 participants.
\n
Moderna'sPhase 3 COVE study enrolled 30,000 participants ages 18 years and up.
\n
Since then, these two companies have obtained authorizations for their respective vaccines to be used in adolescents.
\n
Bothcompanieshave also initiated studies in the pediatric population.
\n
Novavax's study enrolled 29,960 participants 18 years of age and older across 119 sites in the U.S. and Mexico. The placebo-controlled portion of PREVENT-19 continues in adolescents from 12 to less than 18 years of age and recently completed enrollment with 2,248 participants.
\n
Vaccine Logistics: Pfizer recently secured FDA authorization for storing undiluted, thawed vaccine vials in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C for up to one month.
\n
Previously, thawed, undiluted vaccine vials could be stored in the refrigerator for up to five days. Moderna's vaccine can be stored refrigerated between 2° and 8°C for up to 30 days prior to first use.
\n
NVX-CoV2373 is stored and stable at 2°- 8°C, allowing the use of existing vaccine supply chain channels for its distribution. It is packaged in a ready-to-use liquid formulation in 10-dose vials.
\n
Vaccine Efficacy: Interim data from Pfizer-BioNTech's Phase 3 trials released in December showed the vaccine was well-tolerated and demonstrated 95% efficacy in preventing COVID-19 in those without prior infection seven days or more after the second dose. Updated top-line results released for up to six months after the second dose confirmed efficacy at 91.3%.
\n
The vaccine was found 100% effective against severe disease as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and 95.3% effective against severe COVID-19 as defined by the FDA. It was also proved effective against the U.K. strain in lab studies.
\n
Moderna's vaccine showed efficacy of 94.1% against COVID-19. The company announced in May initial data from its Phase 2 study showing that a single 50 mcg dose of mRNA-1273 or mRNA-1273.351 given as a booster to previously vaccinated individuals increased neutralizing antibody titer responses against SARS-CoV-2 and two variants of concern, B.1.351, first identified in South Africa, and P.1, first identified in Brazil.
\n
Novavax's investigational vaccine demonstrated 100% protection against moderate and severe disease not involving variants of concern or variants of interest.
\n
Against variants of concern and variants of interest, the efficacy was 93.2% and in high-risk populations, defined as over 65 or under 65 years with certain comorbidities or having circumstances with frequent COVID-19 exposure, the efficacy was 91%.
\n
Overall efficacy was 90.4%, meeting the primary endpoint.
\n
Cantor Fitzgerald On Novavax's Vaccine:A differentiating factor for NVX-2373 is that it showed vaccine efficacy of 93.2% against VoC/VoI, which demonstrates protection across a broad range of SARS-CoV-2 strains, Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Charles Duncan said in a Monday morning note.
\n
\"Overall, these results enhance our conviction for a differentiated clinical and logistics profile from the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidate ‘2373,\" the analyst said.
\n
Showing efficacy against new strains in two Phase 3 clinical trials, rather than extrapolating potential efficacy from a neutralizing antibody assay conducted in a petri dish, differentiates NVX-CoV2373 from other vaccines that have emergency use authorization, he said.
\n
This profile, according to Cantor reduces regulatory/ commercial risk for the ‘2373 SARS-CoV-2 prophylactic vaccine candidate and, with positive Phase 3 data for NanoFlu reported in March 2020, should raise the profile for Novavax's platform as a whole.
\n
Vaccine Safety Data:Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine showed a favorable tolerability and safety profile, with the most common adverse events from BNT162b2 being transient, mild to moderate pain at the injection site, fatigue and headache, and these generally resolved within two days.
\n
For Moderna, the most common adverse reactions included injection site pain, fatigue, myalgia, arthralgia, headache, and erythema/redness at the injection site. Solicited adverse reactions increased in frequency and severity in the mRNA-1273 group after the second dose.
\n
Preliminary safety data from Novavax's trial showed the vaccine to be generally well-tolerated. Serious and severe adverse events were low in number and balanced between vaccine and placebo groups.
\n
In assessing reactogenicity seven days after dose one and dose two, injection site pain and tenderness, generally mild to moderate in severity, were the most common local symptoms, lasting less than three days.
\n
Novavax's study enrolled 29,960 participants 18 years of age and older across 119 sites in the U.S. and Mexico.
According to a U.S. Labor Department report, jobless claims fell for a fifth straight week to 385,000. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)Justin Sullivan via Getty Images
\n
\"Strong demand and weak supply should continue to put upward pressure on wages,\" Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer wrote in a note. \"Workers are quitting at a higher rate as they find better opportunities.\"
\n
However, a confluence of factors that have kept workers on the sidelines of the labor market may start to lessen in the coming months, some economists noted. Many have agreed that a combination of childcare concerns, fears of contracting COVID-19 and ongoing enhanced federal unemployment benefits have contributed to the still-elevated levels of joblessness, but that each of these should diminish as schools reopen, vaccinations continue and jobless benefits get phased out over the next several months.
\n
\"Labor supply may soon pick up,\" Meyer said. \"We find evidence of a quicker drop in unemployment insurance (UI) applications in states that discontinued generous federal UI benefits.\"
\n
\"Four states — Alaska, Iowa, Mississippi and Missouri — opted out in June 12 and UI applications in those states have fallen faster compared to other states, according to the latest initial jobless claims figures,\" she added. \"With another eight states opting out in the week ending June 19 and a total of 25 states by end of the summer, more workers should return to the workforce, helping to ease wage pressures and help meet the strong labor demand in the economy.\"
\n
Consumer confidence
\n

\n
Another closely watched economic data print this week will be the Conference Board's June consumer confidence index, which is expected to reflect a strong pick-up in sentiment during the recovery and heading into the summer. The print is expected to show an acceleration in rehiring and a step lower in the unemployment rate, helping alleviate some of the labor shortages reported across the economy as of late.\nNon-farm payrolls likely grew by 700,000 in June, according to Bloomberg consensus data. This would accelerate from the 559,000 added back in May and mark the biggest rise since March. And the unemployment rate is expected to move down to 5.6% from 5.8% in May, bringing the jobless rate closer to its pre-pandemic, 50-year low of 3.5%.\n\"Payrolls probably surged again in June, with the pace up from the +559,000 in May,\" TD Securities strategists wrote in a note Friday. \"Some acceleration in the private sector is suggested by the Homebase data, while government payrolls probably benefited from fewer than usual end-of-school-year layoffs.\"\nEven with a sizable monthly payroll gain, the economy would still be well off its pre-pandemic levels of employment. Heading into June, the U.S. economy was still down by more than 7 million payrolls compared to February 2020, with the deficit most pronounced in high-contact services industries like restaurants and hotels.\nBut both services and manufacturing companies have cited shortages of qualified workers to fill open positions, which hit a record high of over 9 million as of latest data. These supply-and-demand mismatches in the labor market – with shortages noted by firms from FedEx (FDX) to Yum Brands (YUM) — have also begun to push wages higher and created additional costs for businesses. In Friday's report, average hourly earnings are expected to jump 3.6% year-on-year for June, accelerating from May's 2% increase.\nSAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 03: A pedestrian walks by a Now Hiring sign outside of a Lamps Plus store on June 03, 2021 in San Francisco, California. According to a U.S. Labor Department report, jobless claims fell for a fifth straight week to 385,000. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)Justin Sullivan via Getty Images\n\"Strong demand and weak supply should continue to put upward pressure on wages,\" Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer wrote in a note. \"Workers are quitting at a higher rate as they find better opportunities.\"\nHowever, a confluence of factors that have kept workers on the sidelines of the labor market may start to lessen in the coming months, some economists noted. Many have agreed that a combination of childcare concerns, fears of contracting COVID-19 and ongoing enhanced federal unemployment benefits have contributed to the still-elevated levels of joblessness, but that each of these should diminish as schools reopen, vaccinations continue and jobless benefits get phased out over the next several months.\n\"Labor supply may soon pick up,\" Meyer said. \"We find evidence of a quicker drop in unemployment insurance (UI) applications in states that discontinued generous federal UI benefits.\"\n\"Four states — Alaska, Iowa, Mississippi and Missouri — opted out in June 12 and UI applications in those states have fallen faster compared to other states, according to the latest initial jobless claims figures,\" she added. \"With another eight states opting out in the week ending June 19 and a total of 25 states by end of the summer, more workers should return to the workforce, helping to ease wage pressures and help meet the strong labor demand in the economy.\"\nConsumer confidence\n\nAnother closely watched economic data print this week will be the Conference Board's June consumer confidence index, which is expected to reflect a strong pick-up in sentiment during the recovery and heading into the summer. The report is due for release Tuesday morning.\nThe headline index is likely to rise to 119.0 for June from 117.2 in May, according to Bloomberg consensus data. This would mark the highest level since February 2020's 132.6, which itself had been a near two-decade high.\nLike investors, consumers have begun to warm to the notion that inflationary pressures seen during the early stages of the economic recovery may prove transitory. They appear to have vanished, along with an estimated $3.6 billion in Bitcoin -- an amount that a lawyer for the brothers said was inflated.
\n
Attorney Gerhard Botha, who’s working on the firm’s liquidation case, said some of his clients last made contact with the brothers in May, and he was able to reach them before court proceedings kicked off in Johannesburg. But no “proactive response” was forthcoming from them, Botha said.
\n
A “To Let” sign could be spotted Saturday, fastened to a glass door of vacant office premises in Johannesburg’s upmarket Rosebank business hub that were listed in Africrypt’s communication with clients.
\n
Their cousin, Zakira Laher, said she was last able to make contact with the brothers in April and no one knows where they are. Raees Cajee directed all questions to a lawyer, John Oosthuizen, who wasn’t immediately available to comment.
\n
While Laher, 31, worked for the brothers briefly, she resigned from Africrypt in 2019 -- her role was only to do some administrative work and provide legal advice as the company was getting started. The brothers liked a “nice lifestyle,” filled with luxury cars and traveling -- nothing unusual considering they started making money with crypto ventures at an early age, she said.
\n
The brothers halted their operations in April, along with a message to investors that Africrypt had been hacked and funds were missing.
\n
A lawyer assisting some of the clients said the missing Bitcoin totaled as much as $3.6 billion. Another firm, working on bankruptcy proceedings, said they are aware of about 62 clients that have about 140 million rand ($9.9 million) at risk -- and possibly more coming forward.
\n
Africrypt’s Facebook page, with just two dozen followers, has also been eerily silent for weeks, punctuated by a rare entreaty from someone claiming to have been “totally duped.”
\n
Oosthuizen, a lawyer for Raees and Ameer Cajee, told the BBC that the brothers maintain the company was the victim of a hack and “categorically denied” they had absconded with funds. Oosthuizen also suggested the $3.6 billion figure for the missing Bitcoin was an overestimate.
\n
Although the brothers never notified the police about the hack, they intend to cooperate with any future investigation, Oosthuizen told the BBC. They had received death threats and reacted by trying to keep themselves and their families safe, he said.
\n
It wasn’t clear if the lawyer knew of their whereabouts.
\n
Raising Money
\n
Much of Africrypt’s marketing was achieved by word-of-mouth, said attorney Botha. The brothers will have to reply to the proceedings at the Johannesburg High Court by July 19, he said.
\n
Africrypt’s customer base spanned a variety of clients, from businesses and wealthy individuals to those who loaned money to keep up with their commitments.
\n
“There were rich people, without a doubt,” Botha said. “And people that invested their parents’ pension funds.”
\n
An Africrypt investor presentation paints Raees, the younger brother, as a prodigy. He was first introduced to Bitcoin in 2009 and started a business when he was 13 years old, it said. Africrypt invested capital “in a variety of crypto currencies which the parties have verbally discussed and understood,” according to a client contract.
\n
In a police statement from another investor seen by Bloomberg, Africrypt promised a fivefold return on the investment. The South African authorities are yet to take action against the elusive brothers.
\n
The Financial Sector Conduct Authority has said its hands are tied because cryptocurrency is not yet a regulated product in the country.
","source":"lsy1612507957220","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Trail of Brothers Linked to Missing Bitcoin Stash Is Still Murky
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTrail of Brothers Linked to Missing Bitcoin Stash Is Still Murky\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-28 08:06 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- The Cajee brothers, who ran a cryptocurrency investment platform from South Africa that the local regulator suspects of being a Ponzi scheme, are confounding both their family and ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"GBTC":"Grayscale Bitcoin Trust"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trail-brothers-linked-missing-bitcoin-131212571.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1136989303","content_text":"(Bloomberg) -- The Cajee brothers, who ran a cryptocurrency investment platform from South Africa that the local regulator suspects of being a Ponzi scheme, are confounding both their family and desperate investors alike.\nIt’s still hard to establish the whereabouts of Ameer and Raees Cajee, the pair that operated Johannesburg-based Africrypt since 2019. The brothers liked a “nice lifestyle,” filled with luxury cars and traveling -- nothing unusual considering they started making money with crypto ventures at an early age, she said.\nThe brothers halted their operations in April, along with a message to investors that Africrypt had been hacked and funds were missing.\nA lawyer assisting some of the clients said the missing Bitcoin totaled as much as $3.6 billion. Another firm, working on bankruptcy proceedings, said they are aware of about 62 clients that have about 140 million rand ($9.9 million) at risk -- and possibly more coming forward.\nAfricrypt’s Facebook page, with just two dozen followers, has also been eerily silent for weeks, punctuated by a rare entreaty from someone claiming to have been “totally duped.”\nOosthuizen, a lawyer for Raees and Ameer Cajee, told the BBC that the brothers maintain the company was the victim of a hack and “categorically denied” they had absconded with funds. Oosthuizen also suggested the $3.6 billion figure for the missing Bitcoin was an overestimate.\nAlthough the brothers never notified the police about the hack, they intend to cooperate with any future investigation, Oosthuizen told the BBC. They had received death threats and reacted by trying to keep themselves and their families safe, he said.\nIt wasn’t clear if the lawyer knew of their whereabouts.\nRaising Money\nMuch of Africrypt’s marketing was achieved by word-of-mouth, said attorney Botha. The brothers will have to reply to the proceedings at the Johannesburg High Court by July 19, he said.\nAfricrypt’s customer base spanned a variety of clients, from businesses and wealthy individuals to those who loaned money to keep up with their commitments.\n“There were rich people, without a doubt,” Botha said. “And people that invested their parents’ pension funds.”\nAn Africrypt investor presentation paints Raees, the younger brother, as a prodigy. He was first introduced to Bitcoin in 2009 and started a business when he was 13 years old, it said. Africrypt invested capital “in a variety of crypto currencies which the parties have verbally discussed and understood,” according to a client contract.\nIn a police statement from another investor seen by Bloomberg, Africrypt promised a fivefold return on the investment. The South African authorities are yet to take action against the elusive brothers.\nThe Financial Sector Conduct Authority has said its hands are tied because cryptocurrency is not yet a regulated product in the country.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":325,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":162055071,"gmtCreate":1624028848993,"gmtModify":1634023848307,"author":{"id":"3586863446702582","authorId":"3586863446702582","name":"kj1234","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d429c1d423b4f758c14e073337450edc","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586863446702582","authorIdStr":"3586863446702582"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read","listText":"Good read","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/162055071","repostId":"1113742137","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":299,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160376535,"gmtCreate":1623773708727,"gmtModify":1634028439915,"author":{"id":"3586863446702582","authorId":"3586863446702582","name":"kj1234","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d429c1d423b4f758c14e073337450edc","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586863446702582","authorIdStr":"3586863446702582"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read","listText":"Good read","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160376535","repostId":"1174890666","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":319,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160378565,"gmtCreate":1623773688357,"gmtModify":1634028440721,"author":{"id":"3586863446702582","authorId":"3586863446702582","name":"kj1234","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d429c1d423b4f758c14e073337450edc","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586863446702582","authorIdStr":"3586863446702582"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read","listText":"Good read","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160378565","repostId":"2143730319","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":186,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160343800,"gmtCreate":1623773430900,"gmtModify":1634028451970,"author":{"id":"3586863446702582","authorId":"3586863446702582","name":"kj1234","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d429c1d423b4f758c14e073337450edc","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586863446702582","authorIdStr":"3586863446702582"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read","listText":"Good read","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/160343800","repostId":"1163671123","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1163671123","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623746274,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1163671123?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-15 16:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Intel unveils Infrastructure Processing Units","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1163671123","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"During the Six Five Summit, Intel(NASDAQ:INTC)unveils the Infrastructure Processing Unit or IPU, whi","content":"
During the Six Five Summit, Intel(NASDAQ:INTC)unveils the Infrastructure Processing Unit or IPU, which the company says is an evolution of its SmartNIC line of smart network adapters.
\n
When combined with Xeon processors, Intel says the IPUs will offer highly intelligent infrastructure acceleration. Cryptocurrencies are hardly new. Bitcoin, the first and largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, was created in 2009 and has been followed by more than 7,700 others. Here are a few brokers that allow you to directly hold cryptocurrencies alongside other assets like stocks and bonds, but fees vary and it's key to do your homework:
\n
TD Ameritrade, Interactive Brokers, and Charles Schwab offer bitcoin futures trading.
\n
If your broker doesn't offer cryptocurrencies, you might consider signing up for an account with a crypto exchange, such as one of the following:
\n
Prepare for risk and volatility
\n
Not all cryptocurrencies are created alike, and each token has unique characteristics that help dictate its price swings. For example, he likens bitcoin to \"gold 2.0\" because the digital coin has a finite supply and is seen by some as a way to store value and hedge against inflation -- characteristics that don't apply to ethereum, for example. Indeed, this year, tweets from Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, caused crypto prices to both jump and slump.
\n
\"Look, this is the Wild West, so you have to be ready for it,\" Kupier says.
