Without an engine to build the base game on, it would take years to create a workable program. Unity Software brings these ideas to fruition through its 3D animation solution. Additionally, once the game is launched Unity offers tools to monetize it, acquire a new audience, and analyze player behavior, creating an information loop for game improvements. This is not just useful for video games; Unity's animation programs can also bring industrial designs to life and build augmented and virtual reality models for an immersive experience.</p>\n<p>Unity's third-quarter results were impressive. Its total revenue was up 43% to $286.3 million. Operate solutions -- the segment that manages programs -- increased the fastest at 54%. It also made up 65% of total revenue. It's a a positive sign when the largest segment is also growing the quickest. A key business metric management identified is customers spending greater than $100,000 annually. That count increased to 973 from 739, up 32% over the last year.</p>\n<p>Valuation has been a roller-coaster ride for Unity since going public in 2020.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bd0cacbb731ac333540f18340c390821\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"387\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>U PS Ratio data by YCharts</span></p>\n<p>While its price-to-sales (P/S) ratio is down from its high, it is also far from its low. Moving into 2022, investors should watch its large customer spending count as well as future partnerships. During Q3, it announced a joint venture with UFC utilizing Unity's Metacast software to create an immersive fan experience. Unity's offerings have nearly unlimited use cases, so investors would be wise to purchase some stock because of its wide potential.</p>\n<h2>Crowdstrike</h2>\n<p>One vulnerable component in any network system is the access points. Malicious programs can be downloaded from the internet on a single laptop and wreak havoc on an entire business network, potentially holding it or its information for ransom. Crowdstrike secures these endpoints with its leading Falcon platform. Its cloud-native security protects devices no matter where employees are accessing a company's network. Once a customer signs on, Crowdstrike has multiple other solutions to expand defense capabilities. In fact, 68% of subscribers utilize four or more modules.</p>\n<p>2021 has been a successful year; Crowdstrike's annual recurring revenue (ARR) increased to $1.51 billion, up 67% from Oct. 31, 2020. Q3 total revenue was $380 million, up 63% for the period ending Oct. 31, with subscription revenue making up $357 million. While Crowdstrike remains unprofitable, it converted more than 30% of revenue into free cash flow. Customer count increased 75% to 14,687 during Q3 as well.</p>\n<p>At its midpoint, Crowdstrike is guiding for $1.43 billion in sales for FY22 -- ending Jan. 31, 2022 -- representing 64% growth. Cybersecurity is a growing concern, and businesses must prevent attacks by strengthening their defenses. Crowdstrike assists with this pursuit and appears to be a smart buy, trading almost 30% below its all-time high.</p>\n<h2>Snowflake</h2>\n<p>In a connected world, data is constantly generated and holds valuable insights. However, businesses rarely have enough storage capacity and cannot process it to find meaningful information. Snowflake handles both aspects with its data warehouse and engineering applications. Data can power machine-learning models, creating more powerful solutions for Snowflake's customers. Businesses are clearly finding the platform beneficial if they are expanding their spending. Revenue is almost entirely consumption-based, meaning Snowflake recognizes more revenue as customers increase their use.</p>\n<p>Management guided for 95% fourth-quarter revenue growth, which translates to 103% FY 22 growth. Ridiculous growth often pairs with a high valuation, and Snowflake is no exception, trading at a P/S of more than 100. If growth slows through FY23, Snowflake shareholders will experience heavy losses. However, with emerging-use cases and rapidly expanding customer spending, I think that Snowflake can keep up the pace.</p>\n<p>Each stock here has some risk, as all trade at high multiples and are unprofitable. However, they are growing quickly and have a large market opportunity, generating investor excitement. Should any stock report less-than-stellar quarterly results, expect the stock to get hit hard. Each position should be sized accordingly so a significant loss won't result in lost sleep. Unity Software, Crowdstrike, and Snowflake are smart buys for 2022. But which tech giant is the better cloud play, as well as the stronger all-around investment?</p>\n<h2>The differences between Microsoft and Amazon</h2>\n<p>Microsoft and Amazon started out in very different places. Microsoft had traditionally generated most of its revenue from on-premise software before Satya Nadella, who took over as the company's third CEO in 2014, adopted a \"mobile first, cloud first\" mantra and aggressively expanded Azure, Office 365, Dynamics, and its other cloud-based services.</p>\n<p>Under Nadella, Microsoft's annualized commercialized revenue rose from just 14% of its revenue in fiscal 2016 to 41% in fiscal 2021. Microsoft leveraged the strength of its on-premise software business to tether more businesses -- particularly retailers that competed against Amazon and didn't want to support AWS -- to its cloud services.</p>\n<p>Amazon, which still generates most of its revenue from its online marketplaces, launched AWS in 2002. However, it only started breaking out AWS' revenue and operating profits in 2015. That's when investors realized that AWS generated much higher-margin revenue than its retail business.</p>\n<p>Last year, AWS generated just 12% of Amazon's revenue but raked in 59% of its operating profits. AWS' higher-margin business enables Amazon to expand its retail segment and Prime ecosystem with lower-margin strategies, which arguably makes it the bedrock of its entire business.</p>\n<p>That's why Jeff Bezos, who vacated the CEO position earlier this year, handed the reins to Andy Jassy, the former chief of AWS.</p>\n<h2>Which tech giant is growing faster?</h2>\n<p>The pandemic generated headwinds for Microsoft while stirring up some tailwinds for Amazon. There are now more than 250,000 developers as active Twilio customers, and they're spending 31% more on the platform than they were a year ago.</p>\n<p>Red ink is a problem, and investors are concerned enough about the losses to detract from the spectacular top-line gains that Twilio is producing in a booming niche. We're only going to be spending more time on smartphone apps, and with that comes the challenge for app developers to make sure they beef up their in-app communication solutions. Roku is the top solution, available freely as the default operating system in 38% of the smart TVs sold in North America. Folks can also buy Roku dongles for as little as $20 that plug into their TVs for access to Roku's free-to-use platform.</p>\n<p>Business is strong. Platform revenue soared 82% in its latest quarter. Hardware sales haven't been as kind, and supply-chain constraints and rising costs on that front will linger into the year ahead. The audience continues to grow despite the hardware hiccups, thankfully due to its market leadership in factory-installed new TVs.</p>\n<p>Roku plays nice with thousands of streaming apps. It's had a few tense negotiations with media and tech giants to keep them on its hub -- more recently with YouTube and YouTube TV -- but they have always been resolved before starting to get in the way of user growth. After two years of growth, Airbnb's revenue decreased 30% to $3.4 billion in 2020.</p>\n<p>Thankfully, several effective vaccines have been developed against COVID-19, and that's made folks more willing to travel again in 2021. So sales are bouncing back at Airbnb. In its most recent fiscal quarter ended Sept. 30, revenue was up 36% over the comparable pre-pandemic quarter in 2019. Even more impressively, net income increased to $834 million in the third quarter, up from $267 million in Q3 of 2019.</p>\n<p>The company is gaining traction in the lucrative travel and resort industry that could be worth over $1 trillion in sales annually. Folks can often find places to stay on Airbnb's platform that are better fitted to their needs compared to hotels, which are less customizable.</p>\n<p>Airbnb's stock is trading at a price-to-free-cash-flow ratio of 59 -- its lowest all year -- and a stock market crash could cause it to sell at an even lower price.</p>\n<p><b>Apple</b></p>\n<p>Unlike Airbnb, Apple's business has been thriving since the pandemic's onset. The company's products are more valuable to people working, learning, and entertaining themselves at home.</p>\n<p>But that's not the only factor driving sales higher for Apple. The tech giant has done a masterful job updating legacy products like the iPhone in a fashion that keeps consumers interested. The most recent iPhone update has increased sales of the product to $192 billion in its latest fiscal year ended Sept. 25, up from $138 billion a year ago.</p>\n<p>Apple has proven this capability for years. In the past decade alone, its revenue has grown at a compound annual rate of 12.9%. That's a difficult feat for a company the size of Apple with sales of $366 billion in its fiscal 2021.</p>\n<p>What's more, sales of its products are bringing customers into its ecosystem -- and once with Apple, consumers tend to stick around. Indeed, sales from its services segment totaled $54 billion in 2021, and those sales produce a higher profit margin than its products do.</p>\n<p>One of the only downsides to Apple's stock is its price. The company is approaching a $3 trillion market cap and is trading at a price-to-free-cash-flow ratio of 31 -- near the highs of the past decade. A stock market crash could alleviate some valuation concerns and allow you to buy Apple stock at a lower price.</p>\n<p><b>Amazon</b></p>\n<p>Sales at Amazon, the titan of online retailers, have been surging throughout the pandemic. The company stepped up and delivered while hundreds of millions of folks were looking to avoid shopping in person for fear of contracting COVID-19. Indeed, from fiscal 2019 to 2020, Amazon's sales rose by more than $100 billion. The 37.6% increase in year-over-year sales drove operating profits from $14.5 billion to $22.9 billion. Amazon has gained millions of customers during the pandemic, and undoubtedly many of them will stick around long after.</p>\n<p>Interestingly, Amazon's more profitable segments are growing faster than the company overall. In the most recent quarter ended Sept. 30, revenue from its Amazon Web Services segment (which provides cloud computing to businesses) rose 39% year over year to $16.1 billion while the category that includes advertising revenue jumped 49% to $8.1 billion. In fact, since Q2 2020, the ad revenue category has nearly doubled.</p>\n<p>Amazon is riding multiple tailwinds, including increased shopping online as well as greater advertising online. These trends could propel sales growth for several more years. Amazon's stock is not cheap, trading at a price-to-free-cash flow ratio of 239 and a price-to-earnings ratio of 66, but a stock market crash could give investors a chance to buy it at a lower price.</p>\n<p>Airbnb, Apple, and Amazon are all excellent businesses with solid prospects over several years. Even more impressively, net income increased to $834 million in the third quarter, up from $267 million in Q3 of 2019.\nThe company is gaining traction in the lucrative travel and resort industry that could be worth over $1 trillion in sales annually. Folks can often find places to stay on Airbnb's platform that are better fitted to their needs compared to hotels, which are less customizable.\nAirbnb's stock is trading at a price-to-free-cash-flow ratio of 59 -- its lowest all year -- and a stock market crash could cause it to sell at an even lower price.\nApple\nUnlike Airbnb, Apple's business has been thriving since the pandemic's onset. The company's products are more valuable to people working, learning, and entertaining themselves at home.\nBut that's not the only factor driving sales higher for Apple. The tech giant has done a masterful job updating legacy products like the iPhone in a fashion that keeps consumers interested. The most recent iPhone update has increased sales of the product to $192 billion in its latest fiscal year ended Sept. 25, up from $138 billion a year ago.\nApple has proven this capability for years. In the past decade alone, its revenue has grown at a compound annual rate of 12.9%. That's a difficult feat for a company the size of Apple with sales of $366 billion in its fiscal 2021.\nWhat's more, sales of its products are bringing customers into its ecosystem -- and once with Apple, consumers tend to stick around. Indeed, sales from its services segment totaled $54 billion in 2021, and those sales produce a higher profit margin than its products do.\nOne of the only downsides to Apple's stock is its price. The company is approaching a $3 trillion market cap and is trading at a price-to-free-cash-flow ratio of 31 -- near the highs of the past decade. A stock market crash could alleviate some valuation concerns and allow you to buy Apple stock at a lower price.\nAmazon\nSales at Amazon, the titan of online retailers, have been surging throughout the pandemic. Indeed, from fiscal 2019 to 2020, Amazon's sales rose by more than $100 billion. The 37.6% increase in year-over-year sales drove operating profits from $14.5 billion to $22.9 billion. Amazon has gained millions of customers during the pandemic, and undoubtedly many of them will stick around long after.\nInterestingly, Amazon's more profitable segments are growing faster than the company overall. In the most recent quarter ended Sept. 30, revenue from its Amazon Web Services segment (which provides cloud computing to businesses) rose 39% year over year to $16.1 billion while the category that includes advertising revenue jumped 49% to $8.1 billion. In fact, since Q2 2020, the ad revenue category has nearly doubled.\nAmazon is riding multiple tailwinds, including increased shopping online as well as greater advertising online. These trends could propel sales growth for several more years. Microsoft's Azure ranked second with a 21% share, while all the other players held single-digit shares.</p>\n<p>That dominance makes Amazon and Microsoft two of the top plays on the global cloud computing market, which Grand View Research estimates will expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.1% from 2021 and 2028. But which tech giant is the better cloud play, as well as the stronger all-around investment?</p>\n<h2>The differences between Microsoft and Amazon</h2>\n<p>Microsoft and Amazon started out in very different places. Microsoft had traditionally generated most of its revenue from on-premise software before Satya Nadella, who took over as the company's third CEO in 2014, adopted a \"mobile first, cloud first\" mantra and aggressively expanded Azure, Office 365, Dynamics, and its other cloud-based services.</p>\n<p>Under Nadella, Microsoft's annualized commercialized revenue rose from just 14% of its revenue in fiscal 2016 to 41% in fiscal 2021. Microsoft leveraged the strength of its on-premise software business to tether more businesses -- particularly retailers that competed against Amazon and didn't want to support AWS -- to its cloud services.</p>\n<p>Amazon, which still generates most of its revenue from its online marketplaces, launched AWS in 2002. However, it only started breaking out AWS' revenue and operating profits in 2015. That's when investors realized that AWS generated much higher-margin revenue than its retail business.</p>\n<p>Last year, AWS generated just 12% of Amazon's revenue but raked in 59% of its operating profits. AWS' higher-margin business enables Amazon to expand its retail segment and Prime ecosystem with lower-margin strategies, which arguably makes it the bedrock of its entire business.</p>\n<p>That's why Jeff Bezos, who vacated the CEO position earlier this year, handed the reins to Andy Jassy, the former chief of AWS.</p>\n<h2>Which tech giant is growing faster?</h2>\n<p>The pandemic generated headwinds for Microsoft while stirring up some tailwinds for Amazon. For Microsoft, the pandemic throttled the growth of its enterprise-facing software businesses as large companies shut down. After two years of growth, Airbnb's revenue decreased 30% to $3.4 billion in 2020.</p>\n<p>Thankfully, several effective vaccines have been developed against COVID-19, and that's made folks more willing to travel again in 2021. So sales are bouncing back at Airbnb. In its most recent fiscal quarter ended Sept. 30, revenue was up 36% over the comparable pre-pandemic quarter in 2019. Even more impressively, net income increased to $834 million in the third quarter, up from $267 million in Q3 of 2019.</p>\n<p>The company is gaining traction in the lucrative travel and resort industry that could be worth over $1 trillion in sales annually. Folks can often find places to stay on Airbnb's platform that are better fitted to their needs compared to hotels, which are less customizable.</p>\n<p>Airbnb's stock is trading at a price-to-free-cash-flow ratio of 59 -- its lowest all year -- and a stock market crash could cause it to sell at an even lower price.</p>\n<p><b>Apple</b></p>\n<p>Unlike Airbnb, Apple's business has been thriving since the pandemic's onset. The company's products are more valuable to people working, learning, and entertaining themselves at home.</p>\n<p>But that's not the only factor driving sales higher for Apple. The tech giant has done a masterful job updating legacy products like the iPhone in a fashion that keeps consumers interested. The most recent iPhone update has increased sales of the product to $192 billion in its latest fiscal year ended Sept. 25, up from $138 billion a year ago.</p>\n<p>Apple has proven this capability for years. In the past decade alone, its revenue has grown at a compound annual rate of 12.9%. That's a difficult feat for a company the size of Apple with sales of $366 billion in its fiscal 2021.</p>\n<p>What's more, sales of its products are bringing customers into its ecosystem -- and once with Apple, consumers tend to stick around. Indeed, sales from its services segment totaled $54 billion in 2021, and those sales produce a higher profit margin than its products do.</p>\n<p>One of the only downsides to Apple's stock is its price. The company is approaching a $3 trillion market cap and is trading at a price-to-free-cash-flow ratio of 31 -- near the highs of the past decade. A stock market crash could alleviate some valuation concerns and allow you to buy Apple stock at a lower price.</p>\n<p><b>Amazon</b></p>\n<p>Sales at Amazon, the titan of online retailers, have been surging throughout the pandemic. The company stepped up and delivered while hundreds of millions of folks were looking to avoid shopping in person for fear of contracting COVID-19. Indeed, from fiscal 2019 to 2020, Amazon's sales rose by more than $100 billion. The 37.6% increase in year-over-year sales drove operating profits from $14.5 billion to $22.9 billion. Amazon has gained millions of customers during the pandemic, and undoubtedly many of them will stick around long after.</p>\n<p>Interestingly, Amazon's more profitable segments are growing faster than the company overall. In the most recent quarter ended Sept. 30, revenue from its Amazon Web Services segment (which provides cloud computing to businesses) rose 39% year over year to $16.1 billion while the category that includes advertising revenue jumped 49% to $8.1 billion. In fact, since Q2 2020, the ad revenue category has nearly doubled.</p>\n<p>Amazon is riding multiple tailwinds, including increased shopping online as well as greater advertising online. These trends could propel sales growth for several more years. Amazon's stock is not cheap, trading at a price-to-free-cash flow ratio of 239 and a price-to-earnings ratio of 66, but a stock market crash could give investors a chance to buy it at a lower price.</p>\n<p>Airbnb, Apple, and Amazon are all excellent businesses with solid prospects over several years. Folks can often find places to stay on Airbnb's platform that are better fitted to their needs compared to hotels, which are less customizable.\nAirbnb's stock is trading at a price-to-free-cash-flow ratio of 59 -- its lowest all year -- and a stock market crash could cause it to sell at an even lower price.\nApple\nUnlike Airbnb, Apple's business has been thriving since the pandemic's onset. The company's products are more valuable to people working, learning, and entertaining themselves at home.\nBut that's not the only factor driving sales higher for Apple. The tech giant has done a masterful job updating legacy products like the iPhone in a fashion that keeps consumers interested. The most recent iPhone update has increased sales of the product to $192 billion in its latest fiscal year ended Sept. 25, up from $138 billion a year ago.\nApple has proven this capability for years. In the past decade alone, its revenue has grown at a compound annual rate of 12.9%. That's a difficult feat for a company the size of Apple with sales of $366 billion in its fiscal 2021.\nWhat's more, sales of its products are bringing customers into its ecosystem -- and once with Apple, consumers tend to stick around. Indeed, sales from its services segment totaled $54 billion in 2021, and those sales produce a higher profit margin than its products do.\nOne of the only downsides to Apple's stock is its price. The company is approaching a $3 trillion market cap and is trading at a price-to-free-cash-flow ratio of 31 -- near the highs of the past decade. A stock market crash could alleviate some valuation concerns and allow you to buy Apple stock at a lower price.\nAmazon\nSales at Amazon, the titan of online retailers, have been surging throughout the pandemic. The company stepped up and delivered while hundreds of millions of folks were looking to avoid shopping in person for fear of contracting COVID-19. Indeed, from fiscal 2019 to 2020, Amazon's sales rose by more than $100 billion. The 37.6% increase in year-over-year sales drove operating profits from $14.5 billion to $22.9 billion. Amazon has gained millions of customers during the pandemic, and undoubtedly many of them will stick around long after.\nInterestingly, Amazon's more profitable segments are growing faster than the company overall. In the most recent quarter ended Sept. 30, revenue from its Amazon Web Services segment (which provides cloud computing to businesses) rose 39% year over year to $16.1 billion while the category that includes advertising revenue jumped 49% to $8.1 billion. In fact, since Q2 2020, the ad revenue category has nearly doubled.\nAmazon is riding multiple tailwinds, including increased shopping online as well as greater advertising online. These trends could propel sales growth for several more years. Amazon's stock is not cheap, trading at a price-to-free-cash flow ratio of 239 and a price-to-earnings ratio of 66, but a stock market crash could give investors a chance to buy it at a lower price.\nAirbnb, Apple, and Amazon are all excellent businesses with solid prospects over several years.
