Financials were the best-performing S&P 500 sector with a 1.3% gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 237.02 points, or 0.7%, to 34,433.84, sitting less than 2% from its record. The Nasdaq Composite erased earlier gains and closed 0.1% lower at 14,360.39 amid a rise in bond yields. The 10-year Treasury yield jumped 4 basis points to 1.52%.\nThe S&P 500 rallied 2.7% for the week, notching its biggest weekly gain since early February. The Dow gained 3.4% this week for its best week since mid-March, while the Nasdaq advanced 2.4%.\nFriday’s rally came after a key inflation indicator that the Federal Reserve uses to set policy rose 3.4% in May, the fastest increase since the early 1990s, the Commerce Department reported Friday. The reading matched the expectation from economists polled by Dow Jones. The core index rose 0.5% for the month, which actually was below the 0.6% estimate.\nThe core personal consumption expenditures price index increase reflects the rapid pace of economic expansion and resulting price pressures, and amplified how far the nation has come since the pandemic-induced shutdown of 2020.\n“This provided support to the Fed’s argument that inflation is transitory and will help allay fears that we are witnessing runaway inflation,” said Anu Gaggar, senior global Investment analyst at Commonwealth Financial Network. “This should continue to provide support to risk assets such as equities.”\nBank shares jumped after the Federal Reserve announced the banking industry could easily withstand a severe recession. The Fed, in releasing the results of its annual stress test, said the 23 institutions in the 2021 exam remained “well above” minimum required capital levels during a hypothetical economic downturn. The decision cleared the way for the banks to raise dividends and buy back more stock, which was suspended during the pandemic.\nWells Fargo climbed 2.6%, while Fifth Third and PNC all gained over 2%. JPMorgan and Bank of America both rose more than 1%.\nNike’s stock surged 15.5%, helping to boost sentiment for the Dow. The company reported earnings and revenue that blew past Wall Street estimates. Digital sales also jumped 41% since last year and 147% from two years ago.\nOn the flipside,FedEx dipped 3.6% despite beating on the top and bottom lines of its earnings. FedEx also gave a strong yearly outlook.\nFriday saw heightened trading volume as FTSE Russell was set to rebalance its U.S. stock indexes at the market close. Bank of America estimated that more than $170 billion worth of shares would be changed hands as a result of 625 changes in total to Russell indexes, including the Russell 1000 and Russell 2000.\nPresident Joe Biden announced Thursday that the White House struck an infrastructure deal with a bipartisan group of senators. The lawmakers have worked for weeks to craft a roughly $1 trillion package that could get through Congress with support from both parties. The framework will include $579 billion in new spending on transportation like roads, bridges and rail, electric vehicle infrastructure and electric transit, among other things.\nThe stock market came back from last week’s swoon induced by worries about a tighter Federal Reserve. Last week, the Dow fell 3.5% and the S&P 500 shed 1.9% as the Fed moved up its timeline for interest-rate increases.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":173,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":166407752,"gmtCreate":1624021074676,"gmtModify":1634024019096,"author":{"id":"3586532243394746","authorId":"3586532243394746","name":"Wenxuannoon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ea9bfb218d1b305e5f9635304dd34243","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586532243394746","idStr":"3586532243394746"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Tell me your opinion about this news...","listText":"Tell me your opinion about this news...","text":"Tell me your opinion about this news...","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/166407752","repostId":"2144742925","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2144742925","pubTimestamp":1623976535,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2144742925?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-18 08:35","market":"us","language":"en","title":"1 Growth Stock That Could Be Bigger Than Apple","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2144742925","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The next decade looks bright for this supercomputing company.","content":"
In 1999, NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) invented the graphics processing unit (GPU), a chip that revolutionized the gaming industry. NVIDIA Omniverse
\n
This summer, NVIDIA will launch Omniverse, a platform that allows clients to build 3D simulations in real time. That data can then be used in the real world to train AI models for autonomous vehicles.
\n
Second, Omniverse is a subscription product. That's noteworthy because semiconductor sales tend to be cyclical, which can cause lumpy revenue growth. But subscription sales are typically recurring in nature, meaning Omniverse could help NVIDIA grow its top line more consistently.
\n
Third, NVIDIA believes this is a stepping-stone to the Metaverse. If you're unfamiliar with the term, the idea comes from science fiction. The Metaverse refers to a persistent virtual world, a digital reality where people can interact and share experiences.
\n
Here's the big picture: The virtual reality market will hit $69 billion by 2028, according to Grand View Research. And so far, NVIDIA Omniverse is gaining traction rapidly. During the three-month beta testing period, it was downloaded by over 17,000 users.
\n
A final word
\n
To summarize, NVIDIA benefits from a solid competitive position and a massive market opportunity. Both advantages should be growth drivers over the coming decade. But will they be enough to eclipse Apple's current market cap of $2.1 trillion?
\n
No one knows the future, but I think it's possible. Since fiscal 2016 (ended Jan. 31, 2016), NVIDIA's revenue has grown at 29% per year. If it can maintain an annual growth rate of just 17% over the next decade (assuming its price-to-sales ratio remains unchanged), NVIDIA's market cap would reach $2.2 trillion in 2031.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
1 Growth Stock That Could Be Bigger Than Apple
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n1 Growth Stock That Could Be Bigger Than Apple\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-18 08:35 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
In 1999, NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) invented the graphics processing unit (GPU), a chip that revolutionized the gaming industry. stocks rose on Friday with the S&P 500 building on its rally to records, as investors bet that higher inflation will be temporary as the economy continues to recover from the pandemic.\nThe broad equity benchmark climbed 0.3% to hit another closing record high of 4,280.70. Last week, the Dow fell 3.5% and the S&P 500 shed 1.9% as the Fed moved up its timeline for interest-rate increases.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":173,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168345241,"gmtCreate":1623954806783,"gmtModify":1634025280929,"author":{"id":"3586532243394746","authorId":"3586532243394746","name":"Wenxuannoon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ea9bfb218d1b305e5f9635304dd34243","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586532243394746","authorIdStr":"3586532243394746"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$$$","listText":"$$$","text":"$$$","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/168345241","repostId":"2144405557","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2144405557","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1623952545,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2144405557?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-18 01:55","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US STOCKS-Tech-heavy Nasdaq ignores hawkish Fed news to advance","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2144405557","media":"Reuters","summary":"(For a Reuters live blog on U.S., UK and European stock markets, click LIVE/ or type LIVE/ in a news","content":"

(For a Reuters live blog on U.S., UK and European stock markets, click LIVE/ or type LIVE/ in a news window.)

* New jobless claims up last week

* CureVac tumbles on missing COVID-19 vaccine efficacy goal

* Indexes: Dow down 0.5%, S&P up 0.1%, Nasdaq gains 1%

(Adds details, updates prices)

By Medha Singh and David French

June 17 (Reuters) - The Nasdaq jumped on Thursday, at one point approaching its lifetime intraday high set in April, as U.S. technology stocks gained on optimism around a speedy economic recovery.

The performance of the tech-heavy Nasdaq was in stark contrast to the S&P 500 and Dow, which slumped as investors reacted negatively to the Federal Reserve's unexpectedly hawkish message on monetary policy on Wednesday.

Chipmaker Nvidia Corp jumped 5.4%, leading the charge among technology behemoths after Jefferies raised its price target on the stock.

Technology shares, which generally perform better when interest rates are low, powered a rally on Wall Street last year as investors flocked to stocks seen as relatively safe during times of economic turmoil.

The group has come under pressure this year on fears that rising inflation would lead the Fed to hike interest rates sooner than expected. The central bank on Wednesday moved its first projected rate increases from 2024 into 2023. Still, shares of Apple Inc , Microsoft Corp , Amazon.com Inc and Facebook Inc reversed premarket declines to rise between 1.4% and 2% as investors bet that a steady economic rebound would boost demand for their products in the long run. \"Yes there is rising inflation but the market is focusing more on the positives of improving earnings, robust GDP growth and the wider economy getting stronger,\" said Randy Frederick, vice president of trading and derivatives at Charles Schwab in Austin, Texas. \"Today's action is indicative that the Fed hasn't said anything that the market didn't already know.\" The Nasdaq briefly advanced to within 16 points of its lifetime peak achieved on April 29, before pulling back a touch. By 1:55PM ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 198.57 points, or 0.58%, to 33,835.1, the S&P 500 gained 0.24 points, or 0.01%, to 4,223.94 and the Nasdaq Composite added 127.04 points, or 0.9%, to 14,166.73. Interest rate-sensitive bank stocks slumped -3.8% as longer dated U.S. Treasury yields dropped. The strengthening dollar, another by-product of the previous day's Fed news, pushed U.S. oil prices down from the multi-year high hit earlier in the week. The energy index , in turn, fell more than 3%, the biggest laggard among the 11 main S&P sectors. Other economically sensitive stocks including materials and industrials fell 2.4% and 1.5% respectively, as data showed jobless claims rising last week for the first time in more than a month. Still, layoffs appeared to be easing amid a reopening economy and a shortage of people willing to work. \"In the balance of June and into the summer we anticipate continued volatility as we get more signals from economic data, Fed policy and as we get into the earnings season,\" said Greg Bassuk, chief executive officer at AXS Investments in New York. In corporate news, U.S.-listed shares of CureVac NV sank 41.5% after the German biotech said its COVID-19 vaccine was 47% effective in a late-stage trial, missing the study's main goal.
