And with labor shortages still rampant, economists are also predicting another hot print on wage growth.
\n
The Labor Department is set to release its November jobs report Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET. Here were the main metrics expected from the print based on consensus estimates compiled by Bloomberg:
\n
\n

Non-farm payrolls: +548,000 expected, +531,000 in October

\n

Unemployment rate: 4.5% expected, 4.6% in October

\n

Average hourly earnings, month-over-month: 0.4% expected, 0.4% in October

\n

Average hourly earnings, year-over-year: 5.0% expected, 4.9% in October

\n
\n
U.S. employers have added back jobs on net in every month so far in 2021 as vaccinations, reopenings and a recovery in the high-contact services industries helped boost hiring. At 550,000, the expected non-farm payrolls increase for November would mark a back-to-back month that job gains came in above the psychologically important half-million level. It would also represent the most jobs added back since July.
\n
But despite the solid rehiring throughout the year, labor force participation remains short of pre-pandemic levels. As of October, the civilian labor force was still down by nearly 3 million participants, compared to February 2020. Consensus economists expect the labor force participation rate to tick up only slightly in November to reach 61.7%, growing from October's 61.6% but still coming in well below the 63.3% rate from February 2020.
\n
Economists have attributed the stubbornly depressed participation rate to a host of factors, including lingering concerns about COVID-19 infections, difficulties finding child care and a desire by many workers to leave their jobs and pursue roles with more flexibility, wages or benefits. With the latest emergence of the Omicron variant, these myriad factors may further inhibit a rebound in labor force participation.
\n
\"Labor supply shortages do not show material signs of improvement, and could actually worsen in coming months with the federal vaccine mandate taking effect on January 4, 2022. As such, labor market conditions should remain tight, perpetuating strong wage growth,\" Sam Bullard, managing director and senior economist for Wells Fargo, wrote in an email. \"On balance, robust labor demand and further COVID improvements should support strong labor market gains last month, though we are mindful of the challenges the are likely to persist in the labor market for the foreseeable future.\"
\n
As worker demand remains elevated, wages have also risen and contributed to the inflation seen across the economy this year. Average hourly earnings are expected to rise for an eighth straight month. And on a year-over-year basis, average hourly earnings likely accelerated by 5.0%, or the most since February.
\n
These inflationary trends have also been reflected in other recent economic data. The government's latest report on October core personal consumption expenditures, or the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, showed an increase of 4.1% year-over-year – the most in three decades.
\n
And key members of the Fed have signaled they are inclined to shift their focus to staving off inflation, even as the labor force participation and unemployment rates have yet to return to their pre-pandemic levels. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said earlier this week that the central bank's asset-purchase tapering program could end \"a few months early,\" voicing confidence that the economic recovery had progressed enough to warrant a quicker end to the bank's crisis-era support.
\n
\"Fed Chair Powell was right to hint the central bank might speed up the tapering process because a tight labor market means increasing wage demands will stoke the fires of inflation,\" said Chris Rupkey, chief economist for FWDBONDS, in an email. \"The central bank has misread the economic tea leaves before, claiming erroneously the labor market still had slack remaining, and Fed officials run the risk of downplaying the inflation dangers out there again.\"
\n
And heading into Friday's report, other labor market data have also underscored the present tightness of the labor market. ADP's jobs report on Wednesday, while an imperfect indicator of the monthly government data, nevertheless showed an encouragingly stronger-than-expected rise in private-sector employment growth last month. And weekly jobless claims from the Labor Department slid to the lowest level in 52 years during the survey week for the monthly jobs report, presaging a potentially strong payrolls print.
\n
\"While the backdrop of uncertainty regarding Omicron definitely isn’t helping the market, we’re getting some relatively positive news on the labor market front,\" said Mike Loewengart, managing director of investment management at E-Trade Financial, in an email. \"With ADP and jobless claims coming in better than expected, we’ll have to see if the full employment picture tomorrow can carry the torch to continue the forward momentum when it comes to jobs.\"
\n
\"That said, these numbers are backward looking, so with the new variant coming to light only in the past week, it remains to be seen how it could play a role in effecting the workforce and our economic recovery at large,\" Loewengart added.
","source":"yahoofinance_au","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; And with labor shortages still rampant, economists are also predicting another hot print on wage growth.\nThe Labor Department is set to release its November jobs report Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET. Here were the main metrics expected from the print based on consensus estimates compiled by Bloomberg:\n\nNon-farm payrolls: +548,000 expected, +531,000 in October\nUnemployment rate: 4.5% expected, 4.6% in October\nAverage hourly earnings, month-over-month: 0.4% expected, 0.4% in October\nAverage hourly earnings, year-over-year: 5.0% expected, 4.9% in October\n\nU.S. employers have added back jobs on net in every month so far in 2021 as vaccinations, reopenings and a recovery in the high-contact services industries helped boost hiring. At 550,000, the expected non-farm payrolls increase for November would mark a back-to-back month that job gains came in above the psychologically important half-million level. It would also represent the most jobs added back since July.\nBut despite the solid rehiring throughout the year, labor force participation remains short of pre-pandemic levels. As of October, the civilian labor force was still down by nearly 3 million participants, compared to February 2020. Consensus economists expect the labor force participation rate to tick up only slightly in November to reach 61.7%, growing from October's 61.6% but still coming in well below the 63.3% rate from February 2020.\nEconomists have attributed the stubbornly depressed participation rate to a host of factors, including lingering concerns about COVID-19 infections, difficulties finding child care and a desire by many workers to leave their jobs and pursue roles with more flexibility, wages or benefits. With the latest emergence of the Omicron variant, these myriad factors may further inhibit a rebound in labor force participation.\n\"Labor supply shortages do not show material signs of improvement, and could actually worsen in coming months with the federal vaccine mandate taking effect on January 4, 2022. As such, labor market conditions should remain tight, perpetuating strong wage growth,\" Sam Bullard, managing director and senior economist for Wells Fargo, wrote in an email. \"On balance, robust labor demand and further COVID improvements should support strong labor market gains last month, though we are mindful of the challenges the are likely to persist in the labor market for the foreseeable future.\"\nAs worker demand remains elevated, wages have also risen and contributed to the inflation seen across the economy this year. Average hourly earnings are expected to rise for an eighth straight month. And on a year-over-year basis, average hourly earnings likely accelerated by 5.0%, or the most since February.\nThese inflationary trends have also been reflected in other recent economic data. The government's latest report on October core personal consumption expenditures, or the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, showed an increase of 4.1% year-over-year – the most in three decades.\nAnd key members of the Fed have signaled they are inclined to shift their focus to staving off inflation, even as the labor force participation and unemployment rates have yet to return to their pre-pandemic levels. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said earlier this week that the central bank's asset-purchase tapering program could end \"a few months early,\" voicing confidence that the economic recovery had progressed enough to warrant a quicker end to the bank's crisis-era support.\n\"Fed Chair Powell was right to hint the central bank might speed up the tapering process because a tight labor market means increasing wage demands will stoke the fires of inflation,\" said Chris Rupkey, chief economist for FWDBONDS, in an email. \"The central bank has misread the economic tea leaves before, claiming erroneously the labor market still had slack remaining, and Fed officials run the risk of downplaying the inflation dangers out there again.\"\nAnd heading into Friday's report, other labor market data have also underscored the present tightness of the labor market. ADP's jobs report on Wednesday, while an imperfect indicator of the monthly government data, nevertheless showed an encouragingly stronger-than-expected rise in private-sector employment growth last month. And weekly jobless claims from the Labor Department slid to the lowest level in 52 years during the survey week for the monthly jobs report, presaging a potentially strong payrolls print.\n\"While the backdrop of uncertainty regarding Omicron definitely isn’t helping the market, we’re getting some relatively positive news on the labor market front,\" said Mike Loewengart, managing director of investment management at E-Trade Financial, in an email. \"With ADP and jobless claims coming in better than expected, we’ll have to see if the full employment picture tomorrow can carry the torch to continue the forward momentum when it comes to jobs.\"\n\"That said, these numbers are backward looking, so with the new variant coming to light only in the past week, it remains to be seen how it could play a role in effecting the workforce and our economic recovery at large,\" Loewengart added.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":281,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603755277,"gmtCreate":1638455799286,"gmtModify":1638455887585,"author":{"id":"3586140896386932","authorId":"3586140896386932","name":"gh89","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/36173aa663e50cbffdf33c1b022caad1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍","listText":"👍","text":"👍","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/603755277","repostId":"1106472901","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1106472901","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1638455555,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1106472901?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-02 22:32","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow, S&P 500 open higher Thursday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1106472901","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"The S&P 500 was steady on Thursday as investors gauged the arrival of the latest Covid variant on U.","content":"
The S&P 500 was steady on Thursday as investors gauged the arrival of the latest Covid variant on U.S. shores and as the White House tightened travel restrictions.
\n
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained about 150 points, helped by a 3% uptick in Boeing's stock. If history is any guide, stocks can be expected to bottom in early October and begin a period of seasonal strength into year-end.
\n
Ned Davis Research recently sketched a bullish scenario into year-end for global equities by pointing out that the fourth quarter has been the strongest over the past few years.
\n
Risk appetite indicators have been steadily improving, but haven’t risen sufficiently to flash a buy signal just yet. These readings are consistent with my fourth-quarter sector review, which also found signs of cyclical and reflation strength, but no broad-based confirmation.
\n
Supportive sentiment
\n
The sentiment backdrop is becoming more supportive of an advance, though readings haven’t fallen to panic extremes. For example, the NAAIM Exposure Index, which measures the sentiment of registered investment advisers, plunged recently but didn’t break the 26-week Bollinger Band. A penetration of the low Bollinger Band has been a strong buy signal in the past.
\n
These conditions lead me to believe that risk/reward in U.S. stocks now is tilted to the upside. The maximum drawdown of the S&P 500SPX,+0.41%from its highs is -5%. It’s conceivable that stocks could pull back, but another 2%-3% of weakness is likely to spark panic levels in many sentiment models. While I am cautiously bullish, I am not ready to go all-in just yet.
\n
Supply chain bottlenecks
\n
Won’t rising energy prices create inflationary pressure and force the Fed to act? Fed Chair Jerome Powell testified that inflationary pressures were expected to be transitory because of supply chain bottlenecks, but allowed that the transitory period may last longer than expected.
\n
The headlines may see rising hysteria over shortages in the coming weeks as Christmas nears and products aren’t available in plentiful supply. In reality, the shortages are attributable to a supply shock owing to rising demand in the face of limited manufacturing and transportation capacity. Central bankers raising interest rates won’t make the semiconductor shortage go away, nor will it expand shipping and trucking capacity.
\n
Although there are many bottlenecks, in particular in transporting materials to factories, and goods from factories to sellers, orders for goods that will last a (relatively) long time continue to get better. There is simply no downward pressure on the producer sector of the U.S. economy at this time.
\n
The next important data release will be the November jobs report. How will the juxtaposition of COVID cases, the expiry of emergency assistance programs, supply chain bottlenecks, and widespread reports of labor shortages affect the employment situation? Powell stated after the last FOMC meeting that it would take a large miss on the November report for the Fed to rethink its plans to taper its QE purchases. This is what reflation looks like.
\n
Fiscal wild cards
\n
On the other hand, investors will have to deal with the confusing fiscal picture out of Washington. This time, there are simply a lot of balls in the air and many moving parts to fiscal policy. If history is any guide, stocks can be expected to bottom in early October and begin a period of seasonal strength into year-end.\nNed Davis Research recently sketched a bullish scenario into year-end for global equities by pointing out that the fourth quarter has been the strongest over the past few years.\nRisk appetite indicators have been steadily improving, but haven’t risen sufficiently to flash a buy signal just yet. These readings are consistent with my fourth-quarter sector review, which also found signs of cyclical and reflation strength, but no broad-based confirmation.\nSupportive sentiment\nThe sentiment backdrop is becoming more supportive of an advance, though readings haven’t fallen to panic extremes. For example, the NAAIM Exposure Index, which measures the sentiment of registered investment advisers, plunged recently but didn’t break the 26-week Bollinger Band. A penetration of the low Bollinger Band has been a strong buy signal in the past.\nThese conditions lead me to believe that risk/reward in U.S. stocks now is tilted to the upside. The maximum drawdown of the S&P 500SPX,+0.41%from its highs is -5%. It’s conceivable that stocks could pull back, but another 2%-3% of weakness is likely to spark panic levels in many sentiment models. While I am cautiously bullish, I am not ready to go all-in just yet.\nSupply chain bottlenecks\nWon’t rising energy prices create inflationary pressure and force the Fed to act? Fed Chair Jerome Powell testified that inflationary pressures were expected to be transitory because of supply chain bottlenecks, but allowed that the transitory period may last longer than expected.\nThe headlines may see rising hysteria over shortages in the coming weeks as Christmas nears and products aren’t available in plentiful supply. In reality, the shortages are attributable to a supply shock owing to rising demand in the face of limited manufacturing and transportation capacity. Central bankers raising interest rates won’t make the semiconductor shortage go away, nor will it expand shipping and trucking capacity.\nAlthough there are many bottlenecks, in particular in transporting materials to factories, and goods from factories to sellers, orders for goods that will last a (relatively) long time continue to get better. There is simply no downward pressure on the producer sector of the U.S. economy at this time.\nThe next important data release will be the November jobs report. This is what reflation looks like.\nFiscal wild cards\nOn the other hand, investors will have to deal with the confusing fiscal picture out of Washington. This time, there are simply a lot of balls in the air and many moving parts to fiscal policy. Each issue is separate but related and any one of them could go off the rails and affect fiscal policy and unsettle the markets.\n\n\nFunding the federal government, which can be done with a Continuing Resolution in the short run\nThe debt ceiling\nThe infrastructure bill\nThe budget reconciliation process.\n\nHere is how President Joe Biden’s proposals could affect future policy and change the lives of Americans:\n\nTransportation: Electric vehicle (EV) subsidies, spending for EV infrastructure like public charging stations, public transport subsidies, especially for rail travel.\nHealthcare: Expand Medicare coverage to dental, vision, and hearing benefits, free Medicaid coverage for more lower-income Americans, lower drug prices.\nChild care and education: Free day care for lower-income Americans, two years of free preschool before kindergarten and two free years of community college, and 12 weeks of paid family leave to tend to a sick family member.\n\nI have no idea of how this wish list will play out in the tug-of-war in Washington. Make no mistake that the legislative skills are there for a deal to be done. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is a vote counter par excellence, Democratic Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer understands his caucus, while Biden enjoys wide approval among Democrats and has a strong legislative record in the Senate.\nIn all likelihood, the Democrats’ ambitious agenda will be watered down. As an example, Biden’s original proposal was to raise the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%, though expectations were scaled back to 25%. PredictIt odds show that the chances of no tax increase or a sub-25% tax rate are rising. As a 25% rate has been largely discounted by the market, a lower tax rate would be a welcome surprise for equity investors.\nPutting it all together, the stock market may be setting up for a period of positive seasonality into year-end, which would be sparked by a reflationary boom. I’ve experienced that countless times personally, and I think pretty much everyone who tries their hand at growing capital through the financial markets does as well. The important thing is not to fall in love with a stock and let it destroy your portfolio, and in the case of EV mothershipTesla(TSLA), I certainly had my fair share of practice at letting go of a failed thesis recently.
\n
Back inearly April, I said it was time to buy Tesla based upon its fairly reliable history of running higher into earnings announcements. The stock was at $691 at the time and did move higher in the next couple of weeks, but as we can see from the below, the move didn’t stick. That caused me to rethink my position in the short-term with Tesla, and now that we are four weeks out from the next earnings report, we have a different situation on our hands.
\n
Source: StockCharts
\n
I’ve annotated several things on the daily chart because the situation is quite interesting for Tesla during this critical period leading up to the next earnings release. The first thing I’ll note is that the accumulation/distribution line remains very strong, having never wavered from its prior levels achieved during the massive rally that took place mostly in 2020. That’s a good sign because the bulls and bears remain roughly equally matched despite a share price that has given the bulls every reason to move on.
\n
Momentum is more of a mixed picture because the PPO and 14-day RSI are both showing some signs of positive divergence, but also signs that bullish momentum is nowhere near high enough to push the stock into another rally phase. On the divergence side, momentum is gradually moving higher while the share price bounces around, indicating that the worst of the selling is likely done, but that we’re in a digestion period. The 14-day RSI hasn’t yet crested the centerline in earnest, which again means that bullish momentum is fairly weak.
\n
Overall, I’d say momentum is showing what you might expect at this stage, which is that the selling pressure has abated, but we’re not in rally mode. Yet.
\n
Finally, the elephant in the room is the descending triangle I noted above, and I’ve added some extra bars at the end of the chart to show what the resolution of the triangle might look like. We can see at the current slope of the line that the triangle will likely resolve near the end of July, which just so happens to coincide with the earnings release. This is a bearish pattern so I don’t want to make everything seem like sunshine and lollipops, but the rest of the chart is mixed, so we’ll have to wait and see.
\n
The earnings report, in my view, is going to be the catalyst one way or the other for the breakout from the triangle. Which direction it will go is anyone’s guess, but I’d be ready for a wild reaction to the earnings release in July.
\n
If we look at a weekly chart, I see a much rosier picture.
\n
Source: StockCharts
\n
We can see that the stock ran up massively in 2020 and took with it the accumulation/distribution line, as well as the momentum indicators, as you’d expect. But since the selling began, we see signs that the stock has simply worked off its overbought conditions, which looks bullish to me.
\n
The 50-week moving average has served as support during this consolidation phase, and it currently stands at $575, so I’d watch that level if we see more selling. On the plus side, the accumulation/distribution line looks beautiful and again, is supportive of this selling being a digestion period rather than the end of the bull market for Tesla.
\n
Momentum would seem to support that as well, as the PPO and 14-week RSI are back at centerline support. What happens after this is critical, obviously, but the weekly chart doesn’t show Tesla as breaking down on a longer-term basis. The negative divergences we saw since 2020 began have given way to momentum resetting, which often happens before a new bull phase begins. With the earnings report looming in July, and the daily and weekly charts showing different pictures (at least to my eye), it’s going to be an interesting next four weeks for sure.
\n
Fundamentals still bullish
\n
I’d sum up the chart as having a short-term set of challenges for the bulls, but longer-term, I still see Tesla going higher. On a fundamental basis, I think the conclusion is decidedly more bullish. Let’s start with revenue revisions, which have been nothing short of terrific.
\n
Source:Seeking Alpha
\n
All years are showing uptrends in revenue revisions, and in particular, the out years. Let us not forget that these positive revisions are occurring during a time when countless startups and internal combustion engine OGs like GM (GM), Ford (F) and Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY) are investing tens of billions of dollars to take market share in EVs. None of this is new and it isn’t like the analyst community is surprised by these investments; Tesla is simply on a tremendous upward trajectory when it comes to growing revenue.
\n
Canaccordpointed out last week that the Model S Plaid Plus delay was likely due to the 4680 cell design not being ready for prime time. That very well could be the case, and it wouldn’t be the first time Tesla disappointed with a time frame it gave investors. Remember therobo-taxi claim?
\n
At any rate, the company’s lineup continues to resonate with customers and now that capacity constraints should lessen greatly over the coming years – new factories in a few parts of the world will help – the path of least resistance for Tesla is no doubt higher. This will only get better as Tesla can decrease the per-unit cost of things like the batteries so it can better compete with mainstream automakers on price, and become a mainstream automaker rather than a niche manufacturer for the well-heeled.
\n
Another thing scale is affording Tesla is monumental progress with profit margins. Below we have trailing-twelve-months gross margins, SG&A costs, and EBIT margin as a percentage of revenue.
\n
Source: TIKR.com
\n
All three of these lines are moving in the right direction. Gross margins have been rising thanks to higher sales and production volumes, a trend that should continue so long as sales remain robust. In addition, Tesla is spending much less on an SG&A basis than it used to, which again, is the product of higher sales volume. SG&A used to be in the mid-20% range of revenue, which is unsustainable. Today, it’s only 10%, which means operating margins have gone quite positive, and with room to run in the future.
\n
Margins have always been an easy thing for the bears to point to, but that is simply no longer the case, and if you have a long holding period, the margin situation is going to work out in the bulls’ favor.
\n
Source:Seeking Alpha
\n
This is all pointing to ever-higher EPS estimates, as we can see above. Analysts continue to try and keep up with Tesla’s upward trajectory, and so long as sales volumes and margins continue their march higher, so will these lines. Again, this is a feather in the cap of the bulls.
\n
Other considerations
\n
Tesla is not for the faint of heart, because it is volatile and we are at a point in the history of the automobile that an EV gold rush of sorts is occurring. Everyone is investing to win once the internal combustion engine is gone, but Tesla has a massive head start on the competition.
\n
Even so, there are risks to consider. First, Tesla could lose its technology lead over time as legacy manufacturers throw tens of billions of dollars at R&D on battery technology. Tesla is far and away the superior battery maker today, but that does not guarantee it stays that way. To be clear, I don’t see that as a viable outcome in the near-term, but ten years from now? Twenty? It's a risk.
\n
Another risk is that Tesla uses its stock as a piggy bank, issuing shares to fund R&D, factory construction, and the like.
\n
Source: TIKR.com
\n
The share count has nearly doubled in the past decade, which is pretty ugly from a shareholders’ perspective, as we usually only see this kind of dilution with REITs or BDCs that issue equity capital as a normal course of business. Manufacturing stocks don’t generally do anything like this, but Tesla has made it work. Still, you have to imagine it is possible that over a decade holding period, you’ll be diluted out of half of your ownership in the company. This also creates an uphill battle for EPS as earnings are spread over more and more shares, so I want to be clear this is an unequivocal negative for shareholders. However, let me now point you to what could possibly be the saving grace for this perma-dilution; free cash flow.
\n
Source: TIKR.com
\n
Tesla’s trailing-twelve-months FCF has improved immensely in recent years, as the company is producing massive amounts of operating cash flow that it never did before, which is owed once again to sales volume and margin growth. Tesla has surpassed the point where it needs to constantly issue capital just to survive because it is creating its own through its operations. This is massively important for the bull case because it means the dilution we’ve seen in recent yearsshouldn’tbe necessary any longer.
\n
Indeed, if we look at net debt, we can see just how much Tesla’s balance sheet has improved, which again supports not having to dilute shareholders to stay afloat.
\n
Source: TIKR.com
\n
Net debt has turned into a net cash position of late, with Tesla having nearly $5 billion in cash and equivalents more than debt. Tesla’s financing situation has improved enormously, and that’s good for those of us that are bullish.
\n
Is it cheap?
\n
Not really. But then again revolutionary companies rarely are. The good news is that the price-to-sales ratio has halved since the peak earlier this year, but at 11x forward revenue, I cannot in good conscience call it cheap.
\n
Source: TIKR.com
\n
However, it is a lot cheaper than it was, and withrevenueslated to rise by more than half this year, and thendoubleagain by 2024, you don’t need the multiple to rise for a bullish outlook.
\n
I’ll reiterate that there are risks to Tesla. The daily chart is leaning slightly bearish with that descending triangle, but we’re heading into the pre-earnings run-up that Teslausuallyshines during. I’ve experienced that countless times personally, and I think pretty much everyone who tries their hand at growing capital through the financial markets does as well. The important thing is not to fall in love with a stock and let it destroy your portfolio, and in the case of EV mothershipTesla(TSLA), I certainly had my fair share of practice at letting go of a failed thesis recently.\nBack inearly April, I said it was time to buy Tesla based upon its fairly reliable history of running higher into earnings announcements. The stock was at $691 at the time and did move higher in the next couple of weeks, but as we can see from the below, the move didn’t stick. That caused me to rethink my position in the short-term with Tesla, and now that we are four weeks out from the next earnings report, we have a different situation on our hands.\nSource: StockCharts\nI’ve annotated several things on the daily chart because the situation is quite interesting for Tesla during this critical period leading up to the next earnings release. The first thing I’ll note is that the accumulation/distribution line remains very strong, having never wavered from its prior levels achieved during the massive rally that took place mostly in 2020. That’s a good sign because the bulls and bears remain roughly equally matched despite a share price that has given the bulls every reason to move on.\nMomentum is more of a mixed picture because the PPO and 14-day RSI are both showing some signs of positive divergence, but also signs that bullish momentum is nowhere near high enough to push the stock into another rally phase. On the divergence side, momentum is gradually moving higher while the share price bounces around, indicating that the worst of the selling is likely done, but that we’re in a digestion period. The 14-day RSI hasn’t yet crested the centerline in earnest, which again means that bullish momentum is fairly weak.\nOverall, I’d say momentum is showing what you might expect at this stage, which is that the selling pressure has abated, but we’re not in rally mode. Yet.\nFinally, the elephant in the room is the descending triangle I noted above, and I’ve added some extra bars at the end of the chart to show what the resolution of the triangle might look like. We can see at the current slope of the line that the triangle will likely resolve near the end of July, which just so happens to coincide with the earnings release. This is a bearish pattern so I don’t want to make everything seem like sunshine and lollipops, but the rest of the chart is mixed, so we’ll have to wait and see.\nThe earnings report, in my view, is going to be the catalyst one way or the other for the breakout from the triangle. Which direction it will go is anyone’s guess, but I’d be ready for a wild reaction to the earnings release in July.\nIf we look at a weekly chart, I see a much rosier picture.\nSource: StockCharts\nWe can see that the stock ran up massively in 2020 and took with it the accumulation/distribution line, as well as the momentum indicators, as you’d expect. But since the selling began, we see signs that the stock has simply worked off its overbought conditions, which looks bullish to me.\nThe 50-week moving average has served as support during this consolidation phase, and it currently stands at $575, so I’d watch that level if we see more selling. On the plus side, the accumulation/distribution line looks beautiful and again, is supportive of this selling being a digestion period rather than the end of the bull market for Tesla.\nMomentum would seem to support that as well, as the PPO and 14-week RSI are back at centerline support. What happens after this is critical, obviously, but the weekly chart doesn’t show Tesla as breaking down on a longer-term basis. The negative divergences we saw since 2020 began have given way to momentum resetting, which often happens before a new bull phase begins. With the earnings report looming in July, and the daily and weekly charts showing different pictures (at least to my eye), it’s going to be an interesting next four weeks for sure.\nFundamentals still bullish\nI’d sum up the chart as having a short-term set of challenges for the bulls, but longer-term, I still see Tesla going higher. On a fundamental basis, I think the conclusion is decidedly more bullish. Let’s start with revenue revisions, which have been nothing short of terrific.\nSource:Seeking Alpha\nAll years are showing uptrends in revenue revisions, and in particular, the out years. Let us not forget that these positive revisions are occurring during a time when countless startups and internal combustion engine OGs like GM (GM), Ford (F) and Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY) are investing tens of billions of dollars to take market share in EVs. None of this is new and it isn’t like the analyst community is surprised by these investments; Tesla is simply on a tremendous upward trajectory when it comes to growing revenue.\nCanaccordpointed out last week that the Model S Plaid Plus delay was likely due to the 4680 cell design not being ready for prime time. That very well could be the case, and it wouldn’t be the first time Tesla disappointed with a time frame it gave investors. Remember therobo-taxi claim?\nAt any rate, the company’s lineup continues to resonate with customers and now that capacity constraints should lessen greatly over the coming years – new factories in a few parts of the world will help – the path of least resistance for Tesla is no doubt higher. This will only get better as Tesla can decrease the per-unit cost of things like the batteries so it can better compete with mainstream automakers on price, and become a mainstream automaker rather than a niche manufacturer for the well-heeled.\nAnother thing scale is affording Tesla is monumental progress with profit margins. Below we have trailing-twelve-months gross margins, SG&A costs, and EBIT margin as a percentage of revenue.\nSource: TIKR.com\nAll three of these lines are moving in the right direction. Today, it’s only 10%, which means operating margins have gone quite positive, and with room to run in the future.\nMargins have always been an easy thing for the bears to point to, but that is simply no longer the case, and if you have a long holding period, the margin situation is going to work out in the bulls’ favor.\nSource:Seeking Alpha\nThis is all pointing to ever-higher EPS estimates, as we can see above. Analysts continue to try and keep up with Tesla’s upward trajectory, and so long as sales volumes and margins continue their march higher, so will these lines. Again, this is a feather in the cap of the bulls.\nOther considerations\nTesla is not for the faint of heart, because it is volatile and we are at a point in the history of the automobile that an EV gold rush of sorts is occurring. Everyone is investing to win once the internal combustion engine is gone, but Tesla has a massive head start on the competition.\nEven so, there are risks to consider. Twenty? It's a risk.\nAnother risk is that Tesla uses its stock as a piggy bank, issuing shares to fund R&D, factory construction, and the like.\nSource: TIKR.com\nThe share count has nearly doubled in the past decade, which is pretty ugly from a shareholders’ perspective, as we usually only see this kind of dilution with REITs or BDCs that issue equity capital as a normal course of business. However, let me now point you to what could possibly be the saving grace for this perma-dilution; free cash flow.\nSource: TIKR.com\nTesla’s trailing-twelve-months FCF has improved immensely in recent years, as the company is producing massive amounts of operating cash flow that it never did before, which is owed once again to sales volume and margin growth. Tesla has surpassed the point where it needs to constantly issue capital just to survive because it is creating its own through its operations. This is massively important for the bull case because it means the dilution we’ve seen in recent yearsshouldn’tbe necessary any longer.\nIndeed, if we look at net debt, we can see just how much Tesla’s balance sheet has improved, which again supports not having to dilute shareholders to stay afloat.\nSource: TIKR.com\nNet debt has turned into a net cash position of late, with Tesla having nearly $5 billion in cash and equivalents more than debt. Tesla’s financing situation has improved enormously, and that’s good for those of us that are bullish.\nIs it cheap?\nNot really. But then again revolutionary companies rarely are. The good news is that the price-to-sales ratio has halved since the peak earlier this year, but at 11x forward revenue, I cannot in good conscience call it cheap.\nSource: TIKR.com\nHowever, it is a lot cheaper than it was, and withrevenueslated to rise by more than half this year, and thendoubleagain by 2024, you don’t need the multiple to rise for a bullish outlook.\nI’ll reiterate that there are risks to Tesla. The daily chart is leaning slightly bearish with that descending triangle, but we’re heading into the pre-earnings run-up that Teslausuallyshines during. The weekly chart is showing signs of digestion rather than rolling over. There are competitive risks that aren’t new and will never go way, but the company is still building great EVs that are resonating with customers. Margins and FCF are booming comparatively speaking, and the stock is at roughly half the valuation it was a few months ago.\nAll in all, Tesla almost certainly has a rocky road in front of it, but I’m still bullish given the weight of the evidence.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":321,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":168992909,"gmtCreate":1623946143501,"gmtModify":1634025424471,"author":{"id":"3586140896386932","authorId":"3586140896386932","name":"gh89","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/36173aa663e50cbffdf33c1b022caad1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[惊讶] ","listText":"[惊讶] ","text":"[惊讶]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/168992909","repostId":"2144742672","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2144742672","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1623943500,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2144742672?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-17 23:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Facebook launches ads globally for Instagram Reels","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2144742672","media":"Reuters","summary":"June 17 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc is launching ads globally on its TikTok clone Instagram Reels, the ","content":"
June 17 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc is launching ads globally on its TikTok clone Instagram Reels, the company said on Thursday.
\n
The social media company, which is aiming to make money from its short-form video feature, began testing Instagram Reels ads in India, Brazil, Germany and Australia in April. Since peaking at $29.44 in early February, shares have retreated by 67%. Looking ahead, B. Riley analyst Christopher Souther believes any catalysts to alter the stock’s trajectory are still in the distance.\n\nIn F2Q21, FuelCell generated revenue of $14 million, reflecting a 25.9% year-over-year decline and missing the estimates by $4.91 million. The soft top-line figure was due to the company not generating any module exchanges in the quarter. The company disappointed on the bottom-line too, as GAAP EPS of -$0.06 also came in $0.01 below the estimates.\nAdditionally, the company’s backlog has dropped from the same period a year ago. Compared to the $1.34 billion reported in the same period last year, FuelCell’s backlog stood at $1.32 billion at the end of April, although Southern does note the backlog was up 4% quarter-over-quarter.\nSouther also highlights the positive noises made by management around “the pipeline opportunities expanding for the platform.” In both Europe and Asia, FuelCell has been laying the groundwork on “building out the product sale pipeline.” The company is also confident FY21 will see the addition of the fuel cell projects in San Bernardino, California and Groton, Connecticut.\nSince “refocusing its efforts,” FuelCell has yet to add any product sales to the backlog, which going forward is a factor that should be taken into consideration.\n“We see announcements later this year as key to hitting 2022 estimates or potential upside,” 5-star analyst wrote. “Legislation that recently passed in Connecticut for 30MW of fuel cell projects with utilities likely provides continued positive momentum for the company in its home state, with RFPs (request for proposals) likely coming as early as this summer and potential wins by year-end, in our view.”\nAnd while Souther sees “major catalysts around the commercialization of carbon capture opportunities and the solid oxide platform as 2022+ stories,” those are still a way off.\nFor now, the analyst rates FCEL stock a Neutral (i.e. Hold), while the price target gets a slight trim – reduced from $11 to $10. As such, Souther expects shares to stay range-bound for the foreseeable future.\nOverall, there are currently no Buy recommendations for FCEL and its Moderate Sell consensus rating is based on 5 Holds and 2 Sells. The shares are priced at $9.68 and their $9 average price target suggests a 7% downside from current levels.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":172,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":185540095,"gmtCreate":1623662365717,"gmtModify":1634030499100,"author":{"id":"3586140896386932","authorId":"3586140896386932","name":"gh89","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/36173aa663e50cbffdf33c1b022caad1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[财迷] [财迷] ","listText":"[财迷] [财迷] ","text":"[财迷] [财迷]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/185540095","repostId":"2142207492","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":63,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":183191161,"gmtCreate":1623313035253,"gmtModify":1631886383248,"author":{"id":"3586140896386932","authorId":"3586140896386932","name":"gh89","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/36173aa663e50cbffdf33c1b022caad1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Clean Energy Fuels(CLNE)$waiting for good news later! The segment was one of those hit the hardest during the pandemic as air travel – both domestic and international – came to a standstill.\nWith Covid-19 beating a hasty retreat, the clouds appear to be parting for airlines. For investors, of course, this signals opportunity. And if you’re going to bet on one airline to make the max out of this moment, Jefferies’ Sheila Kahyaoglu thinks one stands out above the rest.\n“We are upgrading Delta Air Lines (DAL) to Buy as the best positioned airline for the next stage of the recovery,” the analyst said. “DAL is well positioned to take share given a strong domestic footprint with SMBs (small and medium-sized businesses) and overweight exposure to Europe.”\nAlong with the rating upgrade, Kahyaoglu also raised her price target from $50 to $60, implying upside of 30% from current levels.\n\nAccording to Kahyaoglu, US domestic leisure travel’s comeback is almost complete, and industry checks indicate that by June, it will be “100% restored.” The analyst even thinks it is likely this summer’s domestic leisure travel levels will exceed those of 2019.\nThis sets the scene for the next stage of the recovery, with corporate and international travel due a comeback. As corporate sales account for roughly 50% of Delta’s revenue, and the company is also heavily exposed to SMBs, it is fair to assume the airline is poised to benefit. What’s more, the recovery is in the early innings, with domestic corporate travel “trending at 30% of normalized levels,” so there’s a lot of ground to make up still.\nThe other catalyst for Delta is in Europe, which will be the first transocean market to open meaningfully to US travelers.\nHere, the company is also more heavily exposed than its peers. In 2019, 52% of DAL’s international ASMs (available seat miles) were Europe bound, compared to just 42% for UAL and 44% for AAL. “This could drive greater international share to Delta,” Kahyaoglu summed up.\nOn the whole, the Street has a more measured take on Delta’s prospects. Based on 6 Buys vs. 5 Holds, the stock has a Moderate Buy consensus rating. The forecast is for one-year gains of 24%, given the average price target clocks in at $58.44.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":63,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":117318607,"gmtCreate":1623116753609,"gmtModify":1634036769145,"author":{"id":"3586140896386932","authorId":"3586140896386932","name":"gh89","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/36173aa663e50cbffdf33c1b022caad1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[捂脸] ","listText":"[捂脸] ","text":"[捂脸]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/117318607","repostId":"2141259492","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2141259492","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1623115139,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2141259492?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-08 09:18","market":"fut","language":"en","title":"Oil falls again amid concerns over demand rebound","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2141259492","media":"Reuters","summary":"TOKYO, June 8 (Reuters) - Oil prices lost more ground on Tuesday as concerns about the fragile state","content":"
TOKYO, June 8 (Reuters) - Oil prices lost more ground on Tuesday as concerns about the fragile state of the global recovery in demand for crude and fuels were heightened by data showing China's oil imports fell in May.

Brent crude was down 11 cents, or 0.2%, at $71.38 a barrel by 0151 GMT, after declining 0.6% overnight.
