over the past few decades. From clunky old consoles with physical game cartridges to downloadable games, the industry has changed dramatically thanks to constant innovation.
\n
But while the modes of gameplay have changed, many of the most popular franchises have shown a remarkable ability to stick around. Hit titles like Nintendo's (OTC:NTDOY) Mario Brothers and Electronic Arts' (NASDAQ:EA) FIFA and Madden series have adapted to users' preferred gaming styles and progressed with the technology around them.
\n
As the upcoming decade presents even more change, betting on both Nintendo and Electronic Arts is an easy way to capitalize on the dynamic video game sector.
\n
\n
1. Nintendo
\n
Unlike most companies in the gaming space, Nintendo hasn't just been the recipient of technological change -- it's actually created it. Since Nintendo has almost always paired its games exclusively with its own hardware, the company has endured numerous boom and bust cycles. However, that process appears to be changing.
\n
According to research firm NPD Group, Nintendo has been home to the best-selling video game console worldwide -- the Nintendo Switch -- for 34 of the last 35 months. But unlike with Nintendo's previous consoles, users' accounts are no longer tied to a specific piece of hardware. Instead, users can save their progress and content through their online memberships.
\n
This digital focus also helps ease the transition across Nintendo's various Switch iterations. So as users upgrade from the original Switch to the Switch Lite, and now most recently to the Switch OLED model, they no longer need to restart from square one, but can instead save their progress and access games across different pieces of hardware. Not only does this encourage additional console upgrades and keep customers in the Nintendo ecosystem for longer, but it also makes Nintendo's game development process more lucrative.
\n
As the company builds new downloadable games from its famous franchises like Pokémon, Zelda, Mario, and more, the active user base for Nintendo to sell to consistently grows. So far, Nintendo has sold more than 90 million total units of the Switch platform, and it has already touted 79 million playing users in the first half of this year alone.
\n
With the upcoming slate of games containing several long-anticipated titles like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and add-on content for Animal Crossing, Nintendo has upgraded its full-year guidance and expects to sell 200 million software units (game sales) for 2021 -- a 19% increase from its 2019 figure.
\n
However, despite Nintendo's promising outlook, concerns over cyclicality and the company's risk-averse management team have hampered the stock price. Nintendo's current enterprise value (market cap minus net cash) to expected full-year operating income ratio stands at 9.1 -- far lower than those of many of its gaming peers.
\n
Over the coming years, as Nintendo continues to add new iterations to the Switch platform and grow its active user base, its profits should trend steadily higher.
\n
2. Electronic Arts
\n
Electronic Arts, also known as EA, is a video game publisher that's most popular for its sports-based franchises FIFA and Madden. Over the last decade, while many of the company's prominent titles have stayed consistent, EA's business model has changed dramatically. Propelled by an industry-wide shift to live services, EA has become increasingly digital. In fact, prior to the introduction of live gameplay and digital downloads, EA generated most of its revenue through the sales of physical games. This meant that the value of a video game often stopped at the initial purchase. But that has since changed.
\n
Since 2017, EA's bookings (money committed by customers but not entirely recognized as revenue yet) from live services have compounded by more than 35% per year, and in the most recent quarter accounted for 62% of the company's overall bookings. Additionally, more than 60% of the company's initial game sales are now completely digital. Since this requires less manufacturing and distribution costs, EA's per-unit profit margins have increased as well. This transition has helped EA improve its gross margins from less than 40% a decade ago to 73% in the most recent quarter.
\n
But the company's growth isn't all in the past. In the most recent quarter, EA's trailing 12-month bookings jumped 27% versus the same period a year ago thanks in large part to the success of the company's new hit title Apex Legends. After first launching Apex Legends in 2019, the free-to-play shooter game has quickly risen to 100 million players and is fast approaching $1 billion in annual bookings. Additionally, EA's management team announced plans to build on that success by launching a mobile version of Apex later this year.
\n
However, despite the enduring success that EA has demonstrated over the last decade, the company continues to trade at a favorable valuation. EA expects to generate roughly $2 billion in operating cash flow for the full year, but its market cap sits at just over $35 billion -- putting its enterprise-value-to-operating-cash-flow ratio at around 18 times. Management also appears to be cognizant of this attractive price, since it has repurchased $1.3 billion worth of its own shares over the last 12 months.
\n
Between the company's timeless franchises, its promising development potential, and the stock's current valuation, investors should be in for quite a positive decade.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Video Game Stocks You Can Buy and Hold for the Next Decade
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Video Game Stocks You Can Buy and Hold for the Next Decade\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-01 23:34 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
It's no secret that the video game industry has significantly evolved over the past few decades. Additionally, EA's management team announced plans to build on that success by launching a mobile version of Apex later this year.\nHowever, despite the enduring success that EA has demonstrated over the last decade, the company continues to trade at a favorable valuation. EA expects to generate roughly $2 billion in operating cash flow for the full year, but its market cap sits at just over $35 billion -- putting its enterprise-value-to-operating-cash-flow ratio at around 18 times. Management also appears to be cognizant of this attractive price, since it has repurchased $1.3 billion worth of its own shares over the last 12 months.\nBetween the company's timeless franchises, its promising development potential, and the stock's current valuation, investors should be in for quite a positive decade.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":598,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603878224,"gmtCreate":1638402466862,"gmtModify":1638402467483,"author":{"id":"3584582153384625","authorId":"3584582153384625","name":"Investcub","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b34bc19b19d991e55d86b53b1e4a44ff","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3584582153384625","idStr":"3584582153384625"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Here we go again…but again this we shall overcome…","listText":"Here we go again…but again this we shall overcome…","text":"Here we go again…but again this we shall overcome…","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/603878224","repostId":"2188562523","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2188562523","pubTimestamp":1638400751,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2188562523?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-02 07:19","market":"us","language":"en","title":"First U.S. Case of Omicron Variant Confirmed in California","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2188562523","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected ","content":"
(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected mutation continues its spread around the world.
\n
The infected individual was a traveler from South Africa, according to the CDC. By the end of October, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was up by a whopping 6.2% for the year, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That's the largest increase in the CPI in more than three decades. Moreover, core inflation, which is a less volatile metric than CPI as it excludes food and energy prices, was also up by an unsightly 4.6% for the year at the close of October. Core inflationary rates haven't been that high since 1991.
\n
How can investors protect their portfolios from this surge in inflation? While no single strategy is sufficient to guard your portfolio from the threat of rising prices, investors should consider owning a few stocks that offer dividends with yields that are either greater than the anticipated rise in the cost of goods and services or at least keep pace with inflation rates over the next 12 months. The problem with this approach, though, is that the vast majority of stocks with annualized dividends of 6% or higher simply aren't worth owning. Companies with ultra-high yields, after all, tend to have serious underlying problems.
\n
Icahn Enterprises (NASDAQ:IEP) and Takeda Pharmaceutical (NYSE:TAK) are two of the few exceptions to this general rule of thumb. Here's why these two ultra-high-yield dividend stocks might be worth owning as a hedge against inflation in 2022.
\n
\n
A sky-high yield investors can bank on
\n
Icahn Enterprises is a diversified holding company named after its founder and top shareholder, Carl Icahn. The company holds positions in a wide swath of industries, including automotive, energy, food packaging, metals, real estate, home fashion, and pharmaceuticals. Icahn Enterprises takes an activist approach to investing. An activist investor is a shareholder who uses an outsize equity stake in a company to influence management. While numerous funds and fund managers have tried their hand at activist investing in the past, Icahn Enterprises is the undisputed king of this aggressive strategy.
\n
Consider that the company has generated an eye-popping 2,003% total return on capital for its unitholders since Jan. 1, 2000. One of the key reasons Icahn Enterprises has performed so well over this 21-year period is its enormous distribution yield to unitholders, which currently stands at 15.8% on an annualized basis. Now, Icahn Enterprise's 12-month trailing payout ratio does come in at a rather worrisome 2,500%. But in its in third-quarter conference call only a few weeks ago, management reaffirmed the latest quarterly distribution figure of $2 per unit.
\n
IEP Total Return Level data by YCharts
\n
A deeply discounted pharma stock with a really big yield
\n
Japanese drugmaker Takeda Pharmaceutical has lost more than a quarter of its value this year. Investors have fled this big pharma stock for a multitude of reasons in 2021. Among the most pressing concerns, Takeda is staring down the patent expiration for the top-selling ADHD drug Vyvanse in 2023; its hereditary angioedema drug Takhzyro is under pressure from BioCryst's oral medication, Orladeyo; and the company is straddled with high levels of debt because of its 2019 acquisition of rare-disease giant Shire.
\n
It isn't all doom and gloom for Takeda, however. First off, the drugmaker's annual dividend yield has ballooned to a noteworthy 6.2% because of its falling share price in 2021. Second, Takeda recently announced a sizable share repurchase program in response to its rock-bottom valuation. Third, the pharma giant's stock is currently trading at between 1.67 times 2024 sales under a worst-case scenario, and 0.8 times at best. Either of those forward-looking valuation scenarios represents a nearly unheard-of valuation for a major drug manufacturing -- strongly suggesting that the market has gotten way too pessimistic about Takeda's future.
\n
All told, Takeda stock should be close to a bottom at this point. The pharma giant, after all, sports one of the best shareholder rewards programs in the entire industry.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Ultra-High-Yield Dividend Stocks to Buy as a Hedge Against Inflation
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Ultra-High-Yield Dividend Stocks to Buy as a Hedge Against Inflation\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-01 15:44 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Inflation is almost certainly going to be a central theme for investors in 2022. Companies with ultra-high yields, after all, tend to have serious underlying problems.\nIcahn Enterprises (NASDAQ:IEP) and Takeda Pharmaceutical (NYSE:TAK) are two of the few exceptions to this general rule of thumb. Here's why these two ultra-high-yield dividend stocks might be worth owning as a hedge against inflation in 2022.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nA sky-high yield investors can bank on\nIcahn Enterprises is a diversified holding company named after its founder and top shareholder, Carl Icahn. While numerous funds and fund managers have tried their hand at activist investing in the past, Icahn Enterprises is the undisputed king of this aggressive strategy.\nConsider that the company has generated an eye-popping 2,003% total return on capital for its unitholders since Jan. But in its in third-quarter conference call only a few weeks ago, management reaffirmed the latest quarterly distribution figure of $2 per unit.\nIEP Total Return Level data by YCharts\nA deeply discounted pharma stock with a really big yield\nJapanese drugmaker Takeda Pharmaceutical has lost more than a quarter of its value this year. Investors have fled this big pharma stock for a multitude of reasons in 2021. Among the most pressing concerns, Takeda is staring down the patent expiration for the top-selling ADHD drug Vyvanse in 2023; its hereditary angioedema drug Takhzyro is under pressure from BioCryst's oral medication, Orladeyo; and the company is straddled with high levels of debt because of its 2019 acquisition of rare-disease giant Shire.\nIt isn't all doom and gloom for Takeda, however. Either of those forward-looking valuation scenarios represents a nearly unheard-of valuation for a major drug manufacturing -- strongly suggesting that the market has gotten way too pessimistic about Takeda's future.\nAll told, Takeda stock should be close to a bottom at this point. The pharma giant, after all, sports one of the best shareholder rewards programs in the entire industry.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":838,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":600025768,"gmtCreate":1638015345749,"gmtModify":1638015345925,"author":{"id":"3584582153384625","authorId":"3584582153384625","name":"Investcub","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b34bc19b19d991e55d86b53b1e4a44ff","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3584582153384625","idStr":"3584582153384625"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Interesting list …","listText":"Interesting list …","text":"Interesting list …","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/600025768","repostId":"1197762499","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1197762499","pubTimestamp":1637969072,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1197762499?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-27 07:24","market":"us","language":"en","title":"7 Stocks to Buy to Build Your Own ‘Elon Musk’ Portfolio","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1197762499","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"There’s no denying that one of the most influential names in the financial world is Elon Musk. When asked where the next trillion would come from, Pichai pointed to his company’s core service. Consumers will ask computers more questions with voice and “multimodal experiences,” he predicted. “Being able to adapt to all that and evolve search will continue to be the biggest opportunity,” the CEO said.
\n
Since taking over Google in 2015, Pichai has pushed the company deeper into cloud computing and artificial intelligence, while facing an increase in regulatory scrutiny. In the interview, Pichai ticked off Google’s key growth businesses -- cloud, the YouTube video service and its app store -- and said AI investments were “underlying” each of them.
\n
The India-born executive also said he expects that more of Google’s products will be developed and tested in Asia first, before spreading across the globe. Not in China, though. After icing plans to bring search to mainland China in 2018, following an employee uproar, Google has kept most of its services out of the most populous nation. “I don’t see that changing,” Pichai said.
\n
But he doesn’t share other Silicon Valley executives’ dim view of China’s tech advances. Pichai acknowledged that Google is “neck to neck” with Chinese companies in AI and quantum computing, but argued that the U.S. and China have room to collaborate in areas like climate change and AI safety.
\n
Some of Google’s largest peers, such as Microsoft Corp. and Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc.,have pitched their futures around the virtual worlds of the metaverse. Google has taken several approaches at virtual and augmented reality products, with limited success. Years ago, its first attempt, the Google Glass headgear, famously flopped. Google recently placed these efforts in a new division reporting to Pichai, although he didn’t provide specifics about the strategy.
\n
“I’ve always been excited about the future of immersive computing,” he said. “This doesn’t belong to any company. When asked where the next trillion would come from, Pichai pointed to his company’s core service. Consumers will ask computers more questions with voice and “multimodal experiences,” he predicted. “Being able to adapt to all that and evolve search will continue to be the biggest opportunity,” the CEO said.\nSince taking over Google in 2015, Pichai has pushed the company deeper into cloud computing and artificial intelligence, while facing an increase in regulatory scrutiny. In the interview, Pichai ticked off Google’s key growth businesses -- cloud, the YouTube video service and its app store -- and said AI investments were “underlying” each of them.\nThe India-born executive also said he expects that more of Google’s products will be developed and tested in Asia first, before spreading across the globe. Not in China, though. After icing plans to bring search to mainland China in 2018, following an employee uproar, Google has kept most of its services out of the most populous nation. “I don’t see that changing,” Pichai said.\nBut he doesn’t share other Silicon Valley executives’ dim view of China’s tech advances. Pichai acknowledged that Google is “neck to neck” with Chinese companies in AI and quantum computing, but argued that the U.S. and China have room to collaborate in areas like climate change and AI safety.\nSome of Google’s largest peers, such as Microsoft Corp. and Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc.,have pitched their futures around the virtual worlds of the metaverse. Google has taken several approaches at virtual and augmented reality products, with limited success. Years ago, its first attempt, the Google Glass headgear, famously flopped. Google recently placed these efforts in a new division reporting to Pichai, although he didn’t provide specifics about the strategy.\n“I’ve always been excited about the future of immersive computing,” he said. “This doesn’t belong to any company. This is the evolution of the internet.”\nEvangelists of the metaverse often talk about the potential to build in new technologies like the blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Aside from some cloud partnerships, Google has largely steered clear of this part of the industry.\nPichai said he doesn’t own any cryptocurrency. “I wish I did,” he said. “I’ve dabbled in it, you know, in and out.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":272,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":873930659,"gmtCreate":1636820742142,"gmtModify":1636820742313,"author":{"id":"3584582153384625","authorId":"3584582153384625","name":"Investcub","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b34bc19b19d991e55d86b53b1e4a44ff","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3584582153384625","idStr":"3584582153384625"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hoping for a more affordable dip [Observation] ","listText":"Hoping for a more affordable dip [Observation] ","text":"Hoping for a more affordable dip [Observation]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/873930659","repostId":"1169510701","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1169510701","pubTimestamp":1636759821,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1169510701?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-13 07:30","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Buy the Elon Musk Dip in Tesla Stock?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1169510701","media":"TheStreet","summary":"Tesla stock has been incredibly volatile over the past week. Fool","summary":"A market downturn could happen when you least expect it. Don't make these mistakes when the next one hits.","content":"
The scary thing about stock market crashes is that they can happen when you least expect them to. And while stock market crashes are normal in that they actually occur somewhat frequently, they can be terrifying for investors who aren't used to them.
\n
But the decisions you make during a market crash will dictate whether you survive it unscathed, or whether you end up taking serious losses you don't recover from for years. With that in mind, here are three moves you might seriously regret during a stock market downturn.
\n
1. Selling when investment values plunge
\n
When you buy stocks, you lock in those investments at a certain price. That price can then rise or fall on an ongoing basis.
\n
If you don't sell your stocks while their value is up, you won't make money. Similarly, if you don't sell your stocks when their values declines, you won't suffer losses. It's the latter you really need to keep in mind during a stock market crash.
\n
When investment values start to fall, it can very tempting to cash out investments in an effort to minimize the blow. But the stock market has a long history of recovering from crashes, so if you leave your portfolio alone, you'll give your stock values a chance to come back up rather than guarantee yourself losses that could've been easily avoided.
\n
2. Pausing your retirement plan contributions
\n
The point of putting money into a 401(k) or IRA isn't to just let it sit there in cash. Rather, you're supposed to invest it so it grows into a large sum over time.
\n
You may be inclined to stop funding your retirement savings during periods when the stock market is doing poorly. But that's a mistake. The money that goes into your retirement plan gets tax-advantaged treatment, whether immediately or in the future, so it pays to keep pumping cash into your account even when the stock market isn't at its strongest.
\n
3. Not adding discounted stocks to your portfolio
\n
Many people assume that buying stocks during a market crash is a bad idea. But actually, the opposite is true.
\n
During market downturns, stock values tend to fall across the board. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the companies you're interested in are actually worth less money than they were the month prior. It just means that temporarily, their share prices are down. That gives you a prime opportunity to buy quality stocks when they're less expensive.
\n
For example, if you're interested in a given company whose share prices has been hovering around $50, during a market crash, it might fall to $40. Does that mean that from now on, shares will only be worth 40? Not at all. But if you scoop them up at $40 apiece, you'll set yourself up to profit big time when their values creeps back up to $50 or beyond.
\n
Knowing how to navigate a stock market crash could prevent you from making poor decisions that hurt you financially. Avoid the above mistakes the next time the market takes a turn for the worse -- you'll be much better off for it in the long run.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Moves You'll Sorely Regret in a Stock Market Crash
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Moves You'll Sorely Regret in a Stock Market Crash\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-17 21:57 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The scary thing about stock market crashes is that they can happen when you least expect them to. The problem is, one of the biggest factors supporting NVIDIA's business (and its stock price) in recent years has been the demand for its chips for use in machines mining cryptocurrencies such asbitcoin(CRYPTO:BTC). S&P 500 has fallen by 20% (or more) on 10 different occasions. And on average, these downturns have lasted 390 days, with the index falling 36% from its high.
\n
Here's the good news: Over the same period, the typical bull market has run for 2,100 days, sending the index up 192%. Remember that every past downturn has ended with the market hitting new highs. Second, have a game plan. Keep a watch list of stocks you plan to buy if prices plummet. For instance, Nvidia and Salesforce.com are on my list. Here's why.
\n

\n
\n
1. Nvidia
\n
In 1999, Nvidia invented the graphics processing unit, a semiconductor designed to process data very quickly. Not surprisingly, these chips excel at compute-intensive tasks like analytics and artificial intelligence, and Nvidia's brand name has become synonymous with high-performance computing.
\n
To reinforce that advantage, Nvidia acquired networking specialist Mellanox last year. Since then, the two have collaborated to deliver a brand new chip: the data processing unit. This chip offloads networking tasks, freeing central processing units to run applications, which boosts data center performance and security.
\n
Of course, a new product is good for Nvidia's top line, but there's a bigger picture taking shape. As Nvidia's computing platform expands (i.e., one chip to two chips), the company can build more comprehensive solutions for its data center clients. For instance, the DGX SuperPOD combines Nvidia GPUs and DPUs into a single supercomputer, delivering a turnkey solution for enterprise AI.
\n
Not surprisingly, Nvidia has reported impressive financial results in recent years.
\n
\n
\n
\n

Metric

\n

Q1 2018 (TTM)

\n

Q1 2022 (TTM)

\n

CAGR

\n
\n
\n
\n
\n

Revenue

\n

$7.5 billion

\n

$19.3 billion

\n

27%

\n
\n
\n

Free cash flow

\n

$1.5 billion

\n

$5.5 billion

\n

38%

\n
\n
\n
\n
Looking ahead, I think Nvidia can maintain this momentum. In April, the company unveiled the Grace CPU, once again extending its computing platform. This new data center chip will launch in 2023, featuring energy efficient ARM cores. More importantly, it will deliver 10 times the performance of today's fastest servers, helping clients tackle complex AI workloads.
\n
Here's the bottom line: Artificial intelligence is one of the most transformative technologies ever invented by the human race, and it will reshape the world in the years ahead. More to the point, Nvidia values the data center market at $100 billion by 2024. And as the industry leader, it's well positioned to capitalize on that opportunity. That's why this growth stock looks like a smart investment, especially if a market crash slashes the share price.
\n
2. In short, Salesforce is an end-to-end solution for CRM, helping clients handle every stage of the customer lifecycle.
\n
Recently, research firm Gartner recognized Salesforce as the CRM industry leader, suggesting that the company has a greater ability to execute and a more complete vision than any of its rivals.
