The leading cryptocurrency marketplace naturally took a hit as the digital currencies it specializes in moved sharply lower. Adding insult to injury, the Coinbase site was down for chunks of time on Wednesday morning as traders were looking to either cash out or take advantage of the lower price points.

Coinbase stock would tumble 13% to bottom out at $208 -- an all-time low for a stock that has only been public for a month -- but recovered a little more than half of its intraday losses to close just 6% lower. The crypto market itself took a bigger hit, but that does make sense. The negative sentiment that started with Telsa CEO Elon Musk dissing Bitcoin a week ago is generating a spike in trading activity, and that's ultimately good for Coinbase. This will naturally become a bigger problem for Coinbase if crypto doesn't bounce back, but that could also be a mixed blessing if that keeps new competitors away or a trading fee price war from breaking out.

Tesla

Wood apparently didn't take Musk's rant on Bitcoin as an energy hog personally. Tesla is the largest holding across her combined ETFs, and she nabbed a bit more of the electric car maker for three of them on Wednesday.

Tesla stock enters Thursday trading 37% below the all-time high it hit in January. Tesla has become a popular short with so many automakers pushing out electric vehicles, but it seems a bit misguided. None of them will have the proprietary fleet of charging stations that is the equivalent of selling a traditional car and owning every gas station the driver will ever need. Tesla's getting a lot of heat because its \"Full Self Driving\" upgrade isn't exactly full self driving just yet, but what is now a $10,000 digital accessory for new buyers is still well ahead of the competition in the race for autonomous driving. The stock wasn't cheap after last year's run, but the recent sell-off seems overdone at this point given Tesla's pole position in electric vehicles and the aspirational nature of its brand.

Square

Finally, Wood put some more money into a company that knows all about moving money around. Square is a leading payment platform. It's also been an early pioneer in crypto, and that may explain why the shares opened 5% lower on Wednesday before making back more than half of the initial hit by the end of the trading day.

Square has been on a growth tear lately, with sharply accelerating year-over-year top-line growth for five consecutive quarters. Revenue soared 266% in its latest report, a big step up from the 41% growth it was posting six quarters ago. Bitcoin trading through Square's Cash App was a major contributor to the monster quarter, but there's a lot more going for the digital payments platform than just crypto.

Wood isn't afraid to buy on the dip if a company's bullish thesis remains strong. It could happen. What would you do? There are three very common things: Panicking, selling off your stocks, and then steering clear of the stock market for a long time -- possibly forever.
\n
Those are three of the worst moves you can make during a market crash. Here's a closer look at why you shouldn't panic, sell, and steer clear -- along with some guidance regarding what you should do, because market crashes are actually excellent investing opportunities.
\n
\n
1. Don't panic
\n
First, if the market crashes, don't panic. Stock investors need to expect volatility in the market and be braced for it. Over the 50 years from 1970 to 2020, there were 28 stock market crashes or corrections of 10% or more, including six of 30% or more. In some years there are several, and in other years, none.
\n
When corrections and crashes happen, some of your holdings can drop by a lot. The overall market might sink by 20%, but one or more of your particular holdings could fall by 40% or more. For example, at the time of this writing, popular growth stocks The Trade Desk (NASDAQ:TTD), Twilio (NYSE:TWLO), and Redfin (NASDAQ:RDFN) were all down between 45% and 50% from their all-time highs. If you're going to invest in the stock market, you need to be prepared for such drops and to be ready to deal with them calmly, without panicking.
\n
2. Don't sell in a rush
\n
So how do you deal with stocks that suddenly plunge in price -- or fall significantly over a few weeks or months? Well, if it happens along with a sharp or gradual decline in the overall stock market, you probably have little to worry about and should just hang on.
\n
Many investors head for the exits when the market falls sharply -- and their doing so, with all that selling activity, fuels further market declines. In such a situation, it can be tempting to join the crowd and sell many or most of your stocks. That's typically very much the wrong thing to do, though. Ask yourself whether the companies behind your stocks have really seen their prospects change and whether you think their intrinsic value has changed.
\n
Selling can make sense if there has been a change in a company's competitiveness, in its financial health, or in its future prospects, or if there has been any other long-lasting or permanent change that makes it suddenly a less appealing investment. Otherwise, consider hanging on.
\n
\n
3. Don't forget -- stocks are on sale after a crash
\n
Not only is it generally best to hang on to your stocks during and after a market correction or crash, it's also generally best to buy more shares of stock. After all, a widespread market sell-off means that many great stocks are on sale. Consider trying to keep a small portion of your portfolio in cash, in order to have it ready should the market drop. (Don't keep gobs of your portfolio in cash for that reason, though -- because the market may not drop for another year or two, and you can miss out on a lot of gains.)
\n
Think of The Trade Desk, Twilio, and Redfin as examples. It could happen. What would you do? There are three very common things: Panicking, selling off your stocks, and then steering clear of the stock market for a long time -- possibly forever.\nThose are three of the worst moves you can make during a market crash. Here's a closer look at why you shouldn't panic, sell, and steer clear -- along with some guidance regarding what you should do, because market crashes are actually excellent investing opportunities.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Don't panic\nFirst, if the market crashes, don't panic. Stock investors need to expect volatility in the market and be braced for it. Over the 50 years from 1970 to 2020, there were 28 stock market crashes or corrections of 10% or more, including six of 30% or more. In some years there are several, and in other years, none.\nWhen corrections and crashes happen, some of your holdings can drop by a lot. If you're going to invest in the stock market, you need to be prepared for such drops and to be ready to deal with them calmly, without panicking.\n2. Don't sell in a rush\nSo how do you deal with stocks that suddenly plunge in price -- or fall significantly over a few weeks or months? Well, if it happens along with a sharp or gradual decline in the overall stock market, you probably have little to worry about and should just hang on.\nMany investors head for the exits when the market falls sharply -- and their doing so, with all that selling activity, fuels further market declines. In such a situation, it can be tempting to join the crowd and sell many or most of your stocks. That's typically very much the wrong thing to do, though. Ask yourself whether the companies behind your stocks have really seen their prospects change and whether you think their intrinsic value has changed.\nSelling can make sense if there has been a change in a company's competitiveness, in its financial health, or in its future prospects, or if there has been any other long-lasting or permanent change that makes it suddenly a less appealing investment. Otherwise, consider hanging on.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n3. Don't forget -- stocks are on sale after a crash\nNot only is it generally best to hang on to your stocks during and after a market correction or crash, it's also generally best to buy more shares of stock. After all, a widespread market sell-off means that many great stocks are on sale. Consider trying to keep a small portion of your portfolio in cash, in order to have it ready should the market drop. (Don't keep gobs of your portfolio in cash for that reason, though -- because the market may not drop for another year or two, and you can miss out on a lot of gains.)\nThink of The Trade Desk, Twilio, and Redfin as examples. If you'd learned about them months ago and wanted to own shares, but found them a little pricey, now you may be able to grab some shares at prices that are 40% to 50% lower.\nIt can be very helpful to maintain a list or an online portfolio of stocks you'd like to own -- a watch list. Check in on it now and then to see if any stocks of great interest are suddenly trading at more attractive prices. If they are, do some digging to make sure any issues they're facing are temporary.\nMarket corrections and crashes can be unsettling and even scary, but they can also present wonderful opportunities for level-headed investors who know not to panic.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":91,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":197199327,"gmtCreate":1621432251169,"gmtModify":1634189205859,"author":{"id":"3584266186625225","authorId":"3584266186625225","name":"Eggme","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c53352dde54bcc49b191f69138e0e6ee","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3584266186625225","idStr":"3584266186625225"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/197199327","repostId":"2135981077","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2135981077","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1621228853,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2135981077?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-17 13:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Palantir Stock: This One Could Require Some Patience","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2135981077","media":"TipRanks","summary":"Palantir Technologies (PLTR), which is a top provider of analytics and AI (artificial intelligence) ","content":"
\n
Palantir Technologies (PLTR), which is a top provider of analytics and AI (artificial intelligence) services and technology, saw its stock drop ten days in a row prior its earnings report this past ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Wall Street has been dumping most of these securities.\nPalantir stock did get some relief when it reported its Q1 results on May 11. On the news, shares jumped nearly 10% to $20.21.\nYet it was not able to hold on, and the stock price has since sunk to around $20, bringing the market capitalization to $37 billion.\nQ1 Results \nSo, let’s get a rundown on the Q1 numbers. The company reported a net loss of $123 million or 7 cents a share. On an adjusted basis, the earnings per share was 4 cents, which was in-line with the consensus forecast.\nAs for revenues, they soared 49% to $341.2 million, which handily beat the Street estimate of $332 million. The biggest driver was the U.S. government business, which saw an 83% spike. (See Palantir Technologies stock analysis on TipRanks)\nNote that when Palantir was founded – back in 2003 – the focus was generally on contracts for the CIA and the Defense Department. However, over the past decade, the company has been moving more aggressively into the commercial sector. In Q1, commercial segment revenues were $133 million.\nSomething else to consider about the quarterly results: Palantir said that it will accept Bitcoin from its customers and might even add this digital asset to its balance. As seen recently with Tesla (TSLA), this may prove to be a challenge. Tesla recently indicated it will no longer accept Bitcoin for orders because of concerns about the environmental impact of the digital mining.\nPalantir's Technological Advantage\nPalantir generally caters to larger enterprise customers, as the average revenue per customer is about $8.1 million. In fact, the top 20 customers are at a hefty $36.1 million.\nAdditionally, the company has been able to scale its operations with proprietary technologies. The latest offering is Apollo for Edge AI. Launched in April, it is already getting traction. At the heart of this system is micro models, which are similar to microservices that allow for modern cloud computing. The technology essentially makes it much easier and more effective to deploy AI models across complex environments.\nThis technology holds enormous potential. For example, it can allow for the automation of factories, the use of sensors on oil rigs or even applications in space. All in all, Apollo for Edge AI should expand the company’s addressable market opportunity.\nWall Street’s Take\nTurning to the analyst community, the consensus rating is a Hold, with 2 Buys, 3 Holds and 4 Sells logged over the past three months. The average analyst price target is $21.75, which implies 8.3% upside potential.\n\nBottom Line on Palantir\nPalantir has built a powerful platform and is positioned to benefit from the secular trend of AI. Few companies have a similar level of experience, set of strong technologies and team of data scientists.\nOn the other hand, in today’s environment, Wall Street is not particularly interested in growth plays – especially those with high valuations. Consider that Palantir is trading at about 17 times sales, even with the recent drop-off in the stock price.\nTherefore, it may be best to hold off and wait for things to settle before making a purchase.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":320,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":139100217,"gmtCreate":1621597074639,"gmtModify":1634187783422,"author":{"id":"3584266186625225","authorId":"3584266186625225","name":"Eggme","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c53352dde54bcc49b191f69138e0e6ee","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3584266186625225","idStr":"3584266186625225"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmm.. She added more shares of the fast-growing companies to at least two of her six ETFs. Let's see why she may be on to something with all three stocks.

Coinbase

Wood was defending the long-term potential of Bitcoin on Wednesday as the crypto crash was happening, so it's not a surprise to see her adding to Coinbase.

The popular money manager took advantage of the market's dip to add to some of her biggest names across ARK Invest's widely followed exchange-traded funds (ETFs).Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN), Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), and Square (NYSE:SQ) stand out among her purchases on Wednesday. She added more shares of the fast-growing companies to at least two of her six ETFs. Let's see why she may be on to something with all three stocks.Image source: Getty Images.CoinbaseWood was defending the long-term potential of Bitcoin on Wednesday as the crypto crash was happening, so it's not a surprise to see her adding to Coinbase. The leading cryptocurrency marketplace naturally took a hit as the digital currencies it specializes in moved sharply lower. Adding insult to injury, the Coinbase site was down for chunks of time on Wednesday morning as traders were looking to either cash out or take advantage of the lower price points.Coinbase stock would tumble 13% to bottom out at $208 -- an all-time low for a stock that has only been public for a month -- but recovered a little more than half of its intraday losses to close just 6% lower. The crypto market itself took a bigger hit, but that does make sense. The negative sentiment that started with Telsa CEO Elon Musk dissing Bitcoin a week ago is generating a spike in trading activity, and that's ultimately good for Coinbase. This will naturally become a bigger problem for Coinbase if crypto doesn't bounce back, but that could also be a mixed blessing if that keeps new competitors away or a trading fee price war from breaking out.TeslaWood apparently didn't take Musk's rant on Bitcoin as an energy hog personally. Tesla is the largest holding across her combined ETFs, and she nabbed a bit more of the electric car maker for three of them on Wednesday.Tesla stock enters Thursday trading 37% below the all-time high it hit in January. The stock wasn't cheap after last year's run, but the recent sell-off seems overdone at this point given Tesla's pole position in electric vehicles and the aspirational nature of its brand.SquareFinally, Wood put some more money into a company that knows all about moving money around. Square is a leading payment platform. It's also been an early pioneer in crypto, and that may explain why the shares opened 5% lower on Wednesday before making back more than half of the initial hit by the end of the trading day.Square has been on a growth tear lately, with sharply accelerating year-over-year top-line growth for five consecutive quarters. Revenue soared 266% in its latest report, a big step up from the 41% growth it was posting six quarters ago. Bitcoin trading through Square's Cash App was a major contributor to the monster quarter, but there's a lot more going for the digital payments platform than just crypto.Wood isn't afraid to buy on the dip if a company's bullish thesis remains strong.
If you'd learned about them months ago and wanted to own shares, but found them a little pricey, now you may be able to grab some shares at prices that are 40% to 50% lower.
\n
It can be very helpful to maintain a list or an online portfolio of stocks you'd like to own -- a watch list. Check in on it now and then to see if any stocks of great interest are suddenly trading at more attractive prices. If they are, do some digging to make sure any issues they're facing are temporary.
\n
Market corrections and crashes can be unsettling and even scary, but they can also present wonderful opportunities for level-headed investors who know not to panic.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Things Not to Do If the Market Crashes
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Things Not to Do If the Market Crashes\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-19 20:40 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
What if the stock market crashed tomorrow? Wall Street has been dumping most of these securities.\nPalantir stock did get some relief when it reported its Q1 results on May 11. On the news, shares jumped nearly 10% to $20.21.\nYet it was not able to hold on, and the stock price has since sunk to around $20, bringing the market capitalization to $37 billion.\nQ1 Results \nSo, let’s get a rundown on the Q1 numbers. The company reported a net loss of $123 million or 7 cents a share. On an adjusted basis, the earnings per share was 4 cents, which was in-line with the consensus forecast.\nAs for revenues, they soared 49% to $341.2 million, which handily beat the Street estimate of $332 million. The biggest driver was the U.S. government business, which saw an 83% spike. (See Palantir Technologies stock analysis on TipRanks)\nNote that when Palantir was founded – back in 2003 – the focus was generally on contracts for the CIA and the Defense Department. However, over the past decade, the company has been moving more aggressively into the commercial sector. In Q1, commercial segment revenues were $133 million.\nSomething else to consider about the quarterly results: Palantir said that it will accept Bitcoin from its customers and might even add this digital asset to its balance. As seen recently with Tesla (TSLA), this may prove to be a challenge. Tesla recently indicated it will no longer accept Bitcoin for orders because of concerns about the environmental impact of the digital mining.\nPalantir's Technological Advantage\nPalantir generally caters to larger enterprise customers, as the average revenue per customer is about $8.1 million. In fact, the top 20 customers are at a hefty $36.1 million.\nAdditionally, the company has been able to scale its operations with proprietary technologies. The latest offering is Apollo for Edge AI. Launched in April, it is already getting traction. At the heart of this system is micro models, which are similar to microservices that allow for modern cloud computing. The technology essentially makes it much easier and more effective to deploy AI models across complex environments.\nThis technology holds enormous potential. For example, it can allow for the automation of factories, the use of sensors on oil rigs or even applications in space. All in all, Apollo for Edge AI should expand the company’s addressable market opportunity.\nWall Street’s Take\nTurning to the analyst community, the consensus rating is a Hold, with 2 Buys, 3 Holds and 4 Sells logged over the past three months. The average analyst price target is $21.75, which implies 8.3% upside potential.\n\nBottom Line on Palantir\nPalantir has built a powerful platform and is positioned to benefit from the secular trend of AI. Few companies have a similar level of experience, set of strong technologies and team of data scientists.\nOn the other hand, in today’s environment, Wall Street is not particularly interested in growth plays – especially those with high valuations. Consider that Palantir is trading at about 17 times sales, even with the recent drop-off in the stock price.\nTherefore, it may be best to hold off and wait for things to settle before making a purchase.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":320,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
