meeting.\nTh","content":"
Stocks sold off Wednesday after the release of the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s July meeting.
\n
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 383 points, or 1.1%, while the S&P 500 fell 1.1%. The Nasdaq Composite declined 0.9%. All three finished near their lows of the day.
\n
Fed governors have been dropping hints in recent weeks that the beginning of the end of the central bank’s bond buying was nearing, and the minutes confirmed that taperingis at hand. “Most participants noted that …it could be appropriate to start reducing the pace of asset purchases this year,” the minutes read.
\n
The assessment comes as the economy has recovered quickly, and reflects that the Fed is now focused on when—and how quickly—to remove support from the economy.
\n
The selloff was broad. About 83% of S&P 500 stocks fell on the day, according to FactSet. This dynamics often reflects concern about how the market will perform without the Fed there to support it.
\n
Now, it’s just a question of when tapering will begin. It’ “is going to be September or December,” said Dave Wagner, portfolio manager and analyst at Aptus Capital Advisors. “Everyone is focusing on Jackson Hole in my opinion,” he continued, referring to the conclave of central bankers that occurs later this month in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
\n
Strangely, the bond market didn’t react all that much, with the 10-year Treasury yield closing at 1.27%, where it hovered for most of the day. The 2-year yield, which often moves higher when market participants see the Fed hiking short-term interest rates sooner, ended at 0.21%, lower than the 0.22% it hit in the morning.
\n
“I don’t think we’ve learned anything new,” said Tom Graff, head of fixed income at Brown Advisory. Graff added that the consensus for a short-term interest rate hikes in 2022 or 2023 hasn’t changed.
\n
A weak market, however, couldn’t keep some stocks down. For some, it was about earnings.Lowe’s (ticker: LOW) stock rose 9.6% after reporting a profit of $4.25 a share, beating estimates of $4.01 a share, on sales of $27.6 billion, above expectations for $26.9 billion.TJX (TJX) stock rose 6% after reporting a profit of 64 cents a share, beating estimates of 59 cents a share, on sales of $12.1 billion, above expectations for $11 billion.
\n
Others were buoyed by analyst upgrades, with ViacomCBS (VIAC) stock rose 3.7% after getting upgraded to Overweight from Equal Weight at Wells Fargo, and BlackBerry (BB) stock gained 4.2% after getting upgraded to Hold from Sell at Canaccord Genuity.
\n
Tilray (TLRY) stock rose 1.1% after the company bought senior secured convertible notes in marijuana company MedMen Enterprises. Yet it sure feels like the economy is back in recovery mode with upbeat signs in jobs, housing and stocks.
\n
Some experts think this recession is a mirror image of the one in 1918, which was also sparked by a pandemic: the global influenza outbreak. That downturn lasted just 7 months and was the second shortest on record.
\n
Could the Covid recession follow a similar path? We'll have to wait for a ruling from the NBER, the organization that declares the beginning and end of economic cycles — which usually takes several months until after a recession is over to declare the end.
\n
There are certainly pockets of the economy still far from pre-February 2020 levels, like small businesses, retail and restaurants.
\n
But plenty of areas are getting better. GDP is growing again, surging for the past three quarters after dips in the first half of last year. The job market is recovering too, as workers in hard-hit services sectors return to employment. Earnings have rebounded along with the stock market. The housing market continues to sizzle.
\n
And it's pretty much back to business as usual for many major cities.
\n
\"We're not in a downturn anymore. Things are incredibly robust and it's almost a euphoria,\" said Ivan Kaufman, chairman and CEO of Arbor Realty Trust (ABR), a real estate firm that lends to apartment owners and commercial real estate firms.
\n
Default rates are relatively low for Kaufman's company's clients, he said, adding that rents — which took a brief hit last year — are starting to climb again. Demand for leases is climbing as well.
\n
The demise of urban America may have been exaggerated.
\n
\"The issue that existed with Covid was that nobody was going into cities,\" Kaufman said. \"That phenomenon created some vacancies. But that is over.\"
\n
'Strong...to quite strong'
\n
Urban real estate isn't the only sector of the economy that has come roaring back. Money management firm ClearBridge Investments has a recession risk dashboard that looks at a dozen economic indicators, including retail sales, housing, commodity prices, the job market and trucking shipments.
\n
ClearBridge said earlier this month that most of these measures bottomed out in May 2020 and all 12 indicators are now flashing recovery signs.
\n
Analysts at ClearBridge said in a report that with this in mind, they think the recession may have ended about a year ago — just four months after it began. They even used a joke from \"Meet the Parents\" to describe the economy, saying that is \"strong ... to quite strong.\"
\n
Meanwhile investors aren't acting like this is still a recession. The biggest concern now is whether or not the economy will heat up too quickly, forcing the Federal Reserve to taper bond purchases and raise rates sooner than anticipated.
\n
\"Every recession is different and this is an unusual one. But the market has clearly moved on from the pandemic,\" said Matt Peron, director of research at Janus Henderson Investors. \"Investors are focused on inflation. It's the number one, two and three risk.\"
\n
Fear the double dip?
\n
Beyond worries about the Fed taking away the proverbial punch bowl and cutting back on stimulus too soon, Peron said, investors also fear the central bank will not act quickly enough to tamp down inflation pressures before they run out of control.
\n
\"The Fed has to walk a tightrope,\" Peron said, adding that a central bank mistake could lead to a so-called double dip recession, when the economy quickly contracts again after a recovery.
\n
That's what happened after the historically brief recession of 1980, which at only six months is the shortest on record. A series of sharp rate hikes by the Fed helped lead to another recession that lasted from July 1981 to November 1982.
\n
But many Wall Street experts and economists believe the Fed won't be forced to raise rates anytime soon or that inflation will run amok.
\n
\"A period of persistent inflation driven by higher wages feeding into higher prices could lead to tighter financial conditions and put this young expansion in jeopardy,\" strategists at Nuveen said in a report Monday. \"But we remain in the camp that expects inflation to moderate from here.\"
\n
The strategists believe the labor market and supply shortages caused by the pandemic should soon abate. Yet it sure feels like the economy is back in recovery mode with upbeat signs in jobs, housing and stocks.\nSome experts think this recession is a mirror image of the one in 1918, which was also sparked by a pandemic: the global influenza outbreak. That downturn lasted just 7 months and was the second shortest on record.\nCould the Covid recession follow a similar path? We'll have to wait for a ruling from the NBER, the organization that declares the beginning and end of economic cycles — which usually takes several months until after a recession is over to declare the end.\nThere are certainly pockets of the economy still far from pre-February 2020 levels, like small businesses, retail and restaurants.\nBut plenty of areas are getting better. GDP is growing again, surging for the past three quarters after dips in the first half of last year. The job market is recovering too, as workers in hard-hit services sectors return to employment. Earnings have rebounded along with the stock market. The housing market continues to sizzle.\nAnd it's pretty much back to business as usual for many major cities.\n\"We're not in a downturn anymore. Things are incredibly robust and it's almost a euphoria,\" said Ivan Kaufman, chairman and CEO of Arbor Realty Trust (ABR), a real estate firm that lends to apartment owners and commercial real estate firms.\nDefault rates are relatively low for Kaufman's company's clients, he said, adding that rents — which took a brief hit last year — are starting to climb again. Demand for leases is climbing as well.\nThe demise of urban America may have been exaggerated.\n\"The issue that existed with Covid was that nobody was going into cities,\" Kaufman said. \"That phenomenon created some vacancies. But that is over.\"\n'Strong...to quite strong'\nUrban real estate isn't the only sector of the economy that has come roaring back. Money management firm ClearBridge Investments has a recession risk dashboard that looks at a dozen economic indicators, including retail sales, housing, commodity prices, the job market and trucking shipments.\nClearBridge said earlier this month that most of these measures bottomed out in May 2020 and all 12 indicators are now flashing recovery signs.\nAnalysts at ClearBridge said in a report that with this in mind, they think the recession may have ended about a year ago — just four months after it began. They even used a joke from \"Meet the Parents\" to describe the economy, saying that is \"strong ... to quite strong.\"\nMeanwhile investors aren't acting like this is still a recession. The biggest concern now is whether or not the economy will heat up too quickly, forcing the Federal Reserve to taper bond purchases and raise rates sooner than anticipated.\n\"Every recession is different and this is an unusual one. But the market has clearly moved on from the pandemic,\" said Matt Peron, director of research at Janus Henderson Investors. \"Investors are focused on inflation. It's the number one, two and three risk.\"\nFear the double dip?\nBeyond worries about the Fed taking away the proverbial punch bowl and cutting back on stimulus too soon, Peron said, investors also fear the central bank will not act quickly enough to tamp down inflation pressures before they run out of control.\n\"The Fed has to walk a tightrope,\" Peron said, adding that a central bank mistake could lead to a so-called double dip recession, when the economy quickly contracts again after a recovery.\nThat's what happened after the historically brief recession of 1980, which at only six months is the shortest on record. A series of sharp rate hikes by the Fed helped lead to another recession that lasted from July 1981 to November 1982.\nBut many Wall Street experts and economists believe the Fed won't be forced to raise rates anytime soon or that inflation will run amok.\n\"A period of persistent inflation driven by higher wages feeding into higher prices could lead to tighter financial conditions and put this young expansion in jeopardy,\" strategists at Nuveen said in a report Monday. \"But we remain in the camp that expects inflation to moderate from here.\"\nThe strategists believe the labor market and supply shortages caused by the pandemic should soon abate. That will reduce pressure on wage growth, a key component of inflation.\nThey also think companies have made enough investments to boost productivity, which should mean they won't have to pass on the costs of higher commodity prices to consumers.\n\"We've likely already seen the highest monthly inflation readings of 2021,\" the Nuveen strategists said.\nIf that's the case, the economy could continue to expand for the foreseeable future. The only question now is when the NBER will actually come out and officially declare an end to the 2020 recession.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":411,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":159915774,"gmtCreate":1624935643998,"gmtModify":1633946774032,"author":{"id":"3582360052677778","authorId":"3582360052677778","name":"ShirlySuet","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/57d93e0a20280806b45e744b5e2a11cb","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[财迷] ","listText":"[财迷] ","text":"[财迷]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/159915774","repostId":"2147837316","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2147837316","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1624921533,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2147837316?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-29 07:05","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tech stock rally sends S&P and Nasdaq to record highs","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2147837316","media":"Reuters","summary":" - The Nasdaq and S&P 500 hit all-time highs on Monday, fueled by tech stocks as investors expect a robust earnings season while interest rates remain low.Big tech companies including Facebook Inc, Netflix Inc, Twitter Inc and Nvidia Corp were among the biggest boosts to the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq. The S&P 500 continued its recent momentum after paring some earlier losses, recording its third record high in a row, after logging its best weekly performance in 20 weeks last Friday. In contrast, cycl","content":"
(Reuters) - The Nasdaq and S&P 500 hit all-time highs on Monday, fueled by tech stocks as investors expect a robust earnings season while interest rates remain low.
\n
Big tech companies including Facebook Inc, Netflix Inc, Twitter Inc and Nvidia Corp were among the biggest boosts to the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq.
\n
The S&P 500 continued its recent momentum after paring some earlier losses, recording its third record high in a row, after logging its best weekly performance in 20 weeks last Friday.
\n
In contrast, cyclical sectors dropped sharply amid fears over a spike in COVID-19 cases across Asia. These companies do, however, differ quite a lot from each other in a range of metrics, including growth, valuation, and there are also differences when it comes to each company's specific risks and moat. Apple is the largest company of these in terms of profits and market capitalization, but that does not necessarily make it the best investment. In this report, we will take a look at how Apple compares versus the other FAANG members.
\n
Are FAANG Stocks A Good Investment?
\n
Looking back a couple of years, the answer is pretty clear that FAANG stocks at leastwerea good investment in the recent past:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
With gains of 200% to 460%, these five companies easily trounced the broad market's returns over the same time, and all led to hefty gains, at least tripling an investor's money in just five years. The factors that led to these strong gains do, at least partially, still exist today. Notably, these five companies are generating compelling earnings growth, have leadership positions in the markets they address, possess strong brands that are well-received by consumers, and seem to have strong, long-term-oriented leadership teams.
\n
These factors are still in place today, which indicates that FAANG stocks could also be good investments in coming years, although investors should, even with high-quality companies, also consider a stock's valuation. Today, these companies do not look extremely cheap in most cases:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
At 26-64x this year's expected net profits, FAANG stocks can't really be called bargains, although the above-average valuations are, at least to some degree, justified due to the above-average earnings growth that these companies do generate. In any case, I doubt that investors owning FAANG stocks today will see 200%-400%+ returns over the next five years, as this seems unlikely for each of these five stocks due to the combination of current valuations and expected earnings growth. This does, however, not mean that FAANG stocks must be bad investments or underperform the market. In fact, in recent articles, I showcased that solid or even quite attractive returns can be expected from Facebook,Amazon, and Apple, even though the 30%-50% annual returns are likely a thing of the past - that's just mathematics, as no stock can grow at that rate forever.
\n
What Investors Can Expect From Apple
\n
Apple Inc. is not the highest-growth FAANG stock at all. Its growth has been solid but not spectacular in the recent past. This isn't a large surprise, as there is only a certain number of consumers that want to buy an iPhone or an iPad, and that amount can't grow by 50% a year for a very long time. Nevertheless, due to some market growth, some price increases, and growth from its services business, Apple should still be able to deliver sizeable revenue growth in the long run. New products such as the car project are a potential wildcard, but at least for the foreseeable future, this will not be a major profit center for the company. Apple also has a very ambitious shareholder return program, and its buybacks are an important factor for its future earnings per share growth. I believe that, overall, a high-single-digit earnings per share growth rate will be very much achievable for Apple in the long run. Combined with some multiple depression that I expect in coming years, as Apple will likely not trade at a high-20s earnings multiple forever, this gets me to a total return estimate in the 7% range. This is significantly less compared to what investors saw over the last couple of years, but on the other hand, 7% annual returns stemming from a strong, stable blue-chip stock such as Apple are not unattractive. I believe that some of the FAANG stocks could deliver stronger returns, primarily Alphabet and Facebook.
\n
Apple Versus Facebook
\n
Both Apple Inc. and Facebook have a great market position, but Facebook is even more dominant in its industry compared to Apple. Apple has, in the smartphone industry, a market share of around 20%, although more in the higher-end segments. Facebook, for comparison, owns four out of the top five social media networks, with Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. Clearly, FB absolutely dominates its industry. Facebook's industry is also growing quicker than the hardware IT markets that Apple serves, which is why Facebook's growth was significantly higher than Apple's growth in the recent past:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Facebook grew its revenue by well above 300% over the last five years, while Apple's revenue grew by a little less than 50%. When we look back at the total return chart at the beginning of this article and compare it to this revenue chart, we see that Apple's returns stemmed from multiple expansion to a large degree, whereas Facebook's stock actually got less expensive over the last five years. Facebook's business growth clearly outpaced its share price gains, which has made its shares less expensive. This also explains why Facebook, today, trades below the long-term median earnings multiple, whereas Apple's valuation is at the higher end of the historic range:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
The fact that Facebook trades at a historic discount points to a solid entry price, whereas the same can't be said about Apple. On top of that, Facebook will also grow much faster in the future - at least if the analyst community is correct:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
While Apple is expected to see revenue growth of around 10% over the next two years, Facebook is expected to grow by 40% over the same time. Facebook's earnings per share growth estimate is also materially higher than that of Apple.
\n
To sum things up, we can say that Facebook is growing much faster, is even more dominant in its industry compared to Apple, and its shares are trading at a discount compared to the historic average, whereas Apple's shares are historically expensive. This combination makes me believe that the total return outlook for Facebook is better compared to that of Apple.
\n
Apple Versus Alphabet
\n
When we compare Apple to Alphabet, the comparison is relatively similar to what we just saw when comparing Applet to Facebook. Alphabet is a company that is growing quicker than Apple, and that can, to a large degree, be explained by its great market position and the higher market growth rate. Online advertising is a market that has been growing quicker than the tablet or smartphone market in recent years, and the same will, I believe, be true in the foreseeable future as well.
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Alphabet is forecasted to grow its revenue by more than 30% over the next two years, versus Apple's 10% growth. On top of that, at close to 20%, Alphabet is also expected to grow its earnings per share at a higher rate.
\n
Nevertheless, despite its significantly better growth forecast, Alphabet isn't a lot more expensive compared to Apple. GOOG trades at 29x forward earnings, versus AAPL's 26x forward earnings multiple. Does it make sense for GOOG to trade at a premium of just 10%, while its expected growth is one and a half times as high as that of AAPL? You be the judge, but to me, it seems like the valuation looks better at Alphabet as long as we account for the stronger growth expectations. On top of that, with a net cash position of around $120 billion, Alphabet also has one of the best balance sheets in the world. Apple, for comparison, has a somewhatsmallernet cash position of $80 billion, although that still makes for a very strong balance sheet, of course.
\n
All in all, we can summarize that Alphabet is growing faster today, is expected to grow significantly faster in the next two years and in the long run, has an even better balance sheet and a more dominant market position, and yet it trades at an earnings multiple that is only 10% higher than that of Apple. To me, Alphabet thus looks like the more attractive pick among these two at current prices.
\n
Apple Versus Netflix And Amazon
\n
Looking at the last two remaining companies in the FAANG group, we see that, once again, AAPL is growing at a slower pace. Unless Facebook and Alphabet, however, both Netflix and Amazon are way more expensive than Apple.
\n
This huge valuation premium offsets, at least to some degree, the higher expected growth, which is why I believe that Netflix and Amazon do not really seem like much better picks compared to Apple:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
AMZN and NFLX trade at PEG ratios of 1.8 and 1.9, which does not represent a clear discount compared to AAPL's valuation. On top of that, these two companies do not possess balance sheets that are as strong as that of Apple.
\n
Netflix, especially, looks significantly worse compared to the other FAANG members in terms of balance sheet strength and cash generation:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Netflix is the only FAANG member with a meaningful net debt position, and its free cash flows are equal to just 1% of its market capitalization. Netflix grows fast, but to me, it seems doubtful whether the current valuation is justified. Considering that more and more companies are pushing into the streaming market, including Disney (DIS), Amazon, and AT&T(NYSE:T), more competition might hurt Netflix's margins in the future. NFLX thus seems like the worst pick among the five FAANG stocks to me, as it combines a high valuation, weak cash flows, and a somewhat uncertain competitive picture, and I think that is not fully negated by its strong growth alone.
\n
Amazon has a better market position than Netflix, a better balance sheet, and its valuation, relative to its growth, is a little lower than that of Netflix. I would rate Amazon as more or less equally attractive to Apple, although the two companies are quite different from each other in terms of growth, valuation, and shareholder returns.
\n
Which Is The Best FAANG Stock To Buy?
\n
Not every investor has the same goals, thus the answer may be different depending on what you are looking for in a stock. To me, Apple seems like a solid, but outstanding pick at current prices - the business undoubtedly is strong, the balance sheet is great, shareholder returns are hefty, but the valuation seems stretched, especially when we consider how cheap shares were in the past.
\n
Alphabet and Facebook do seem like the best FAANG picks to me today, as they combine strong growth with valuations that are only marginally higher than that of Apple. On top of that, both Alphabet and Facebook dominate their markets. Amazon is a stock that I would rate as a solid investment at today's price, so more or less in line with AAPL, whereas Netflix seems like the weakest pick among these five to me.
\n
Depending on your time horizon, appetite for risk, etc. you may disagree, however - and that's perfectly fine. I'd be glad to hear your top picks and reasoning in the comment section!
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is Apple A Better Buy Than Other FAANG Stocks?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIs Apple A Better Buy Than Other FAANG Stocks?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-26 07:46 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nApple undoubtedly is a great company, with a strong brand, excellent margins, and fundamentals, a fortress balance sheet, and massive shareholder returns.\nBeing a great company does not mean ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AAPL":"苹果"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4436558-apple-better-buy-faang-stocks","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1108941456","content_text":"Summary\n\nApple undoubtedly is a great company, with a strong brand, excellent margins, and fundamentals, a fortress balance sheet, and massive shareholder returns.\nBeing a great company does not mean that the stock must be a great buy. Considering that more and more companies are pushing into the streaming market, including Disney (DIS), Amazon, and AT&T(NYSE:T), more competition might hurt Netflix's margins in the future. NFLX thus seems like the worst pick among the five FAANG stocks to me, as it combines a high valuation, weak cash flows, and a somewhat uncertain competitive picture, and I think that is not fully negated by its strong growth alone.\nAmazon has a better market position than Netflix, a better balance sheet, and its valuation, relative to its growth, is a little lower than that of Netflix. I would rate Amazon as more or less equally attractive to Apple, although the two companies are quite different from each other in terms of growth, valuation, and shareholder returns.\nWhich Is The Best FAANG Stock To Buy?\nNot every investor has the same goals, thus the answer may be different depending on what you are looking for in a stock. To me, Apple seems like a solid, but outstanding pick at current prices - the business undoubtedly is strong, the balance sheet is great, shareholder returns are hefty, but the valuation seems stretched, especially when we consider how cheap shares were in the past.\nAlphabet and Facebook do seem like the best FAANG picks to me today, as they combine strong growth with valuations that are only marginally higher than that of Apple. On top of that, both Alphabet and Facebook dominate their markets. Amazon is a stock that I would rate as a solid investment at today's price, so more or less in line with AAPL, whereas Netflix seems like the weakest pick among these five to me.\nDepending on your time horizon, appetite for risk, etc. you may disagree, however - and that's perfectly fine. Fool","summary":"Their simple, proven business models equip these stalwart companies to fund their payouts in almost any environment.","content":"
Looking for a little more income from your investment portfolio? It may not be a bad idea given the current economic backdrop. While the global economy is coming out of a rough patch caused by the coronavirus contagion, inflation is popping up in a big way in certain areas. And while we don't know what the future holds, it certainly seems as if several growth-first companies have become a bit riskier as investments than they were just a few months back.
\n
With this in mind, here's a rundown of three great all-weather dividend stocks that should be able to push through whatever economic headwind awaits on the horizon. In no particular order...
\n
1. JPMorgan Chase & Co.
\n
Dividend yield: 2.2%
\n
JPMorgan Chase's (NYSE:JPM) current yield of 2.2% is healthy, but it's hardly head-turning. Income-seeking investors could certainly find names with bigger payouts right now.
\n
\n
But there's an important detail that's not evident in the yield alone. That's the rate at which the company raises its dividend. Over the course of the past 10 years, JPMorgan's quarterly payout has improved from $0.25 to $0.90 per share, growing at an annualized clip of 13.7%. That's huge.
\n
Be aware that this diversified banking and finance name trimmed its dividend pretty significantly in the wake of the subprime mortgage meltdown, and could certainly do so again should the company find itself in similar circumstances. After all, about half of its revenue is ultimately linked to interest rates.
\n
Even with inflationary pressures rising, however, a recreation of those unusual underpinnings isn't very likely. Then, interest rates were peeling back from above-average highs, sapping loan margins in addition to piling on costs linked to soured loans. Now, conversely, rates are hovering near record lows and poised to rise in a way that actually makes lending more profitable. A recession curbs the demand for loans, but shouldn't outright kill that demand unless economic weakness turns downright cataclysmic. In the meantime, the other half of JPMorgan's business comes from things like asset management, credit cards, investment banking, and even consumer banking. These businesses are pretty resilient even if they don't exactly thrive in a lethargic environment.
\n
2. Hewlett Packard Enterprise
\n
Dividend yield: 3.1%
\n
Would it surprise you to know that technology company Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE:HPE) is a dividend stock? Well, it is, and a good one too. Sure, you can find higher yields, but they're not easy to find within the tech sector.
\n
This company is, of course, the business and enterprise-facing half of the 2016 split of what used to just be known as Hewlett Packard, with the other consumer-facing half going its separate way. Then in 2017, Hewlett Packard Enterprise spun off its services business to merge it with Computer Sciences Corp., further narrowing its portfolio.
\n
They've been smart moves. A tighter focus on each organization's core customer has ultimately produced greater success than was being achieved as a bigger, broader outfit.
\n
That's not always been easy to see, granted. Revenue and earnings have been just as apt to fall as to rise since the company as we know it today first took shape. The thing is, even after adjusting for one-off, non-operating expenses, Hewlett Packard Enterprise has never really struggled to make its quarterly dividend payment. The current annualized payout of $0.48 per share is only a fraction of the $1.88 (give or take a few cents) per share the company expects to report on a non-GAAP earnings basis for the current fiscal year.
\n
Hewlett Packard Enterprise may not be a major growth machine, but surprisingly enough, it's evolving into a picture of consistent progress as the cloud computing and edge computing markets mature.
\n
3. The Coca-Cola Company
\n
Dividend yield: 3%
\n
Finally, add Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) to your shortlist of dividend stocks to consider adding to your portfolio.
\n
Like most other consumer-oriented companies, Coca-Cola's been crimped by the coronavirus pandemic. Its challenges were more logistical in their nature than linked to a lack of demand. The ultimate impact is the same though. Last year's top line tumbled 11%, clipping earnings by a similar degree.
\n
Yes, the beverage behemoth will work its way out of the pandemic-prompted slump. As fellow Fool writer Parkev Tatevosian points out, Coca-Cola is apt to gain lost market share as the world reopens for business since consumers are more likely to drink a Coke outside of their home than they are within it.
\n
That's not necessarily the top reason to step into this trade while the yield's at a respectable 3%, however. More compelling is the fact that the noise -- and impact -- of the pandemic obscured the upside of moves that Coca-Cola has been making since 2014, and in a big way since 2017. Simply put, Coke has been stepping back from the bottling business by selling bottling operations back to franchisees so it can focus more on licensing. This diminishes revenue, but in that franchising and licensing is a (much) higher-margin business, the end result is greater overall profits.
\n
This new and improved fiscal profile was just starting to come into view in 2020 when COVID-19 wrecked it. With the end of the pandemic in sight though, investors may be surprised to see just how well-suited Coca-Cola is for funding dividend payments.
\n
Then, of course, there's the fact that Coke hasn't failed to raise its dividend for 59 consecutive years now, putting it near the very top for longevity honors among all the Dividend Aristocrats.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
If You Like Dividends, You Should Love These 3 Stocks
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIf You Like Dividends, You Should Love These 3 Stocks\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-16 11:17 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Looking for a little more income from your investment portfolio? A tighter focus on each organization's core customer has ultimately produced greater success than was being achieved as a bigger, broader outfit.\nThat's not always been easy to see, granted. Revenue and earnings have been just as apt to fall as to rise since the company as we know it today first took shape. The thing is, even after adjusting for one-off, non-operating expenses, Hewlett Packard Enterprise has never really struggled to make its quarterly dividend payment. The current annualized payout of $0.48 per share is only a fraction of the $1.88 (give or take a few cents) per share the company expects to report on a non-GAAP earnings basis for the current fiscal year.\nHewlett Packard Enterprise may not be a major growth machine, but surprisingly enough, it's evolving into a picture of consistent progress as the cloud computing and edge computing markets mature.\n3. The Coca-Cola Company\nDividend yield: 3%\nFinally, add Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) to your shortlist of dividend stocks to consider adding to your portfolio.\nLike most other consumer-oriented companies, Coca-Cola's been crimped by the coronavirus pandemic. Its challenges were more logistical in their nature than linked to a lack of demand. The ultimate impact is the same though. Last year's top line tumbled 11%, clipping earnings by a similar degree.\nYes, the beverage behemoth will work its way out of the pandemic-prompted slump. As fellow Fool writer Parkev Tatevosian points out, Coca-Cola is apt to gain lost market share as the world reopens for business since consumers are more likely to drink a Coke outside of their home than they are within it.\nThat's not necessarily the top reason to step into this trade while the yield's at a respectable 3%, however. This diminishes revenue, but in that franchising and licensing is a (much) higher-margin business, the end result is greater overall profits.\nThis new and improved fiscal profile was just starting to come into view in 2020 when COVID-19 wrecked it. With the end of the pandemic in sight though, investors may be surprised to see just how well-suited Coca-Cola is for funding dividend payments.\nThen, of course, there's the fact that Coke hasn't failed to raise its dividend for 59 consecutive years now, putting it near the very top for longevity honors among all the Dividend Aristocrats.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":216,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":169928759,"gmtCreate":1623813390571,"gmtModify":1634027696537,"author":{"id":"3582360052677778","authorId":"3582360052677778","name":"ShirlySuet","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/57d93e0a20280806b45e744b5e2a11cb","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[惊讶] ","listText":"[惊讶] ","text":"[惊讶]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/169928759","repostId":"2143680537","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2143680537","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1623797252,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2143680537?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-16 06:47","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street ends down as data spooks investors awaiting Fed report","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2143680537","media":"Reuters","summary":"Wall Street’s main indices closed lower on Tuesday as data showing stronger inflation and weaker U.S. retail sales in May spooked already-jittery investors awaiting the results of the Federal Reserve’s latest policy meeting.Assurance from the Fed that rising prices are transitory and falling U.S. Treasury yields have helped ease some concerns over inflation and supported U.S. stocks in recent weeks. Energy attracted the most inflows, while technology saw the biggest outflows as clients bailed on single stocks during second-quarter earnings season, according to a chart in their Wednesday night report.\nBOFA GLOBAL RESEARCH REPORT DATED SEPT. 8\n\"Energy and financials saw the biggest inflows last week, though the latter was entirely driven by buybacks,\" the BofA strategists said in the report. Excluding buybacks, they said that energy and real estate led.\nThe energy sector of the S&P 500 index is down about 12% this quarter, according to FactSet data Thursday afternoon. In contrast, real estate has jumped almost 8% since the end of June, while the materials sector had advanced almost 2% in the third quarter, the data show.\nMeanwhile, the S&P 500 index , which is up almost 5% this quarter, was edging lower Thursday afternoon. The index has slipped in the last three days of trading, including Friday before Labor Day weekend.\nBofA clients, including hedge funds, institutional and retail, were net sellers of U.S. equities last week for the first time in three weeks, according to the report. The net selling was led by outflows from single stocks while passive investing remained \"in vogue,\" the strategists said.\n\"Clients continued to buy ETFs last week despite outflows from single stocks, with flows into both equity and fixed income ETFs,\" they wrote. They've \"still been big cumulative buyers of ETFs\" this year.\nThe three sectors of the S&P 500 favored by investors as inflation mentions spiked during earnings season for the second quarter have put up big returns in 2021.\nThe Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) has soared nearly 31% this year, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund XLE has risen about 26%, according to FactSet data, at last check. If Britain and Canada remain below that level, it suggests the pace of normalisation in the United States will be faster. Dollar selling may not last much longer.\"Against the Canadian dollar, the greenback traded at C$1.2069, close to its weakest since May 2015.The British pound bought $1.4188, which was near its strongest level since late February. The euro was steady at $1.2223.The dollar was little changed at 108.90 yen and 0.8976 Swiss franc.Data last week showing U.S. consumer prices rose 4.2% in April from a year earlier was the fastest increase in more than a decade, which stunned investors.Fed policymakers have said this is a temporary spike and reiterated that they expect interest rates to remain low, which has taken some steam out of the dollar, but not all are convinced by the Fed's persuasion.Expectations for policy tightening in Canada and the gradual lifting of coronavirus restrictions in Britain have lifted both countries' currencies, but any suggestion of benign inflation could help the greenback recoup some of its losses.Elsewhere, the Australian and New Zealand dollars held onto recent gains, but traders are closing watching commodity prices to determine whether the Antipodeans will break out of their recent trading range. In the cryptocurrency market, bitcoin stabilised at $43,253, and rival digital currency ether traded at $3,409, but some jitters remain after China banned its financial institutions and payment companies from providing services related to cryptocurrency transactions.========================================================Currency bid prices at 0017 GMTDescription RIC Last U.S. Close Pct Change YTD Pct High Bid Low BidPrevious ChangeSessionEuro/Dollar$1.2223 $1.2224 +0.00% +0.05% +1.2225 +1.2221Dollar/Yen108.9050 108.9050 +0.04% +5.48% +108.9600 +108.8900Euro/Yen133.12 133.10 +0.02% +4.88% +133.1700 +133.0500Dollar/Swiss0.8976 0.8977 +0.00% +1.47% +0.8978 +0.8975Sterling/Dollar1.4188 1.4189 -0.01% +3.85% +1.4191 +1.4181Dollar/Canadian1.2069 1.2061 +0.07% -5.21% +1.2074 +1.2062Aussie/Dollar0.7788 0.7791 -0.03% +1.24% +0.7797 +0.7784NZDollar/Dollar 0.7237 0.7239 -0.01% +0.79% +0.7245 +0.7237","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":198,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":159915774,"gmtCreate":1624935643998,"gmtModify":1633946774032,"author":{"id":"3582360052677778","authorId":"3582360052677778","name":"ShirlySuet","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/57d93e0a20280806b45e744b5e2a11cb","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[财迷] ","listText":"[财迷] ","text":"[财迷]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/159915774","repostId":"2147837316","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":508,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":184280130,"gmtCreate":1623715826820,"gmtModify":1634029766909,"author":{"id":"3582360052677778","authorId":"3582360052677778","name":"ShirlySuet","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/57d93e0a20280806b45e744b5e2a11cb","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[强] ","listText":"[强] ","text":"[强]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/184280130","repostId":"1126626020","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":217,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":110801700,"gmtCreate":1622435326500,"gmtModify":1634101486624,"author":{"id":"3582360052677778","authorId":"3582360052677778","name":"ShirlySuet","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/57d93e0a20280806b45e744b5e2a11cb","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Really [惊讶] ","listText":"Really [惊讶] ","text":"Really [惊讶]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/110801700","repostId":"2139438981","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2139438981","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1622423066,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2139438981?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-31 09:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Bitcoin is headed toward its worst month since 2011; 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' author says that's 'great news'","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2139438981","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"Rough month provides a buying opportunity, Robert Kiyosaki says.
