The annual event is typically a chance for the tech company to introduce changes to the software used everyday by millions of people.</p>\n<p>eyond new gadgets and the introduction of iOS 15, WWDC will also be an opportunity for Apple to address its developer community in the midst of two major recent spats with app makers — a contentious legal battle with Fortnite-maker Epic Games over its App Store fees and a feud with Facebook (FB) over Apple's new app-tracking privacy policy.</p>\n<p>This year, for the second time, Apple's WWDC will be held online, though there will still be plenty for developers to do virtually, including more than 200 sessions on how to build new apps and services.</p>\n<p>The event begins with a keynote at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, June 7. Here's what to expect based on the latest reports and rumors.</p>\n<p><b>New gadgets</b></p>\n<p>The most significant hardware announcement expected during WWDC is the introduction of a redesigned 16-inch MacBook Pro, and possibly a 14-inch version, too, Bloomberg has reported.</p>\n<p>The device — like other recent computer and iPad launches from the company — would likely be built with Apple's M1 chip, which it has said provides longer battery life and faster processing speeds, among other benefits. The new laptop could also bring back the popular MagSafe power connector, Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, said in an email last week.</p>\n<p>Among other hardware updates, Apple could announce a new version of its AirPods, a breakout product for the company but one that is facing increasing competition from the likes of Google and others.</p>\n<p>\"I'm sure Apple is aware of that competition\" and has plans to counter it, said Mike Bailey, director of research at FBB Capital Partners.</p>\n<p>Finally, the iPad could get major new operating system updates, after Apple introduced a new iPad Pro with its M1 chip last fall.</p>\n<p>\"We expect to see the lines between the Mac and the iPad continue to blur with powerful demos of high-performance video editing software and more,\" Wood said.</p>\n<p><b>iMessage gets a social media makeover</b></p>\n<p>Based on the company's promotional materials for WWDC, a centerpiece of the event could be iMessage, the messaging service used by countless Apple device owners.</p>\n<p>The iPhone maker has been working to make iMessage more like a social media platform that competes with Facebook's WhatsApp. Bloomberg reported that iOS 15 iMessage updates will include new options for automatic replies, beyond the existing auto-reply for when users are driving.</p>\n<p>This could further inflame the tensions with Facebook that emerged over privacy.</p>\n<p><b>Focus on privacy</b></p>\n<p>Industry watchers expect Apple to double down on its privacy focus during WWDC this year.</p>\n<p>At last year's conference, Apple announced its iOS 14.5 update that now gives users the option to deny apps permission to track their activity, a move that has drawn the ire of Facebook, which uses this data to target ads. are retreating so broadly and sharply, it’s testing the durability of the cryptocurrency boom.</p>\n<p>The value of more than 7,000 tokens tracked by CoinGecko has shrunk more than $600 billion in the past week to $1.9 trillion. Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, slid some 11% Wednesday to break below $40,000 and is now about $25,000 off its record high set in April.</p>\n<p>Multiple factors are at play, ranging from criticism of the environmental impact of Bitcoin’s energy usage by onetime proponent Elon Musk, to the risk of a regulatory squeeze on what some have called the Wild West of investing. The idea of capturing ginormous returns is appealing. I understand why some investors also like some of the fast-growing yet highly risky stocks on Robinhood. But there are more enticing alternatives, in my view. I'd much rather take the opposite side of that argument in favor of the internet giant.</p>\n<p>Probably the biggest advantage that Amazon has over Dogecoin is its moat. Think about how difficult it would be for any rival to topple Amazon in e-commerce or even cloud hosting. I won't say it's impossible, but Amazon clearly stands as a formidable competitor. Meanwhile, Dogecoin's moat is practically nonexistent.</p>\n<p>I also like that Amazon can continue to deliver solid growth without requiring anything extraordinary to happen. Even after the COVID-19 pandemic fueled online sales, e-commerce still accounted for only 14% of total retail sales in the U.S. last year.</p>\n<p>Amazon also has multiple ways to generate additional growth. The company is expanding into telehealth. Its&nbsp;ad business could double&nbsp;within the next two years. Amazon has invested in self-driving-car technology. That's just the tip of the iceberg. As for Dogecoin, it's totally dependent on having investors choose it over a growing list of other cryptocurrencies.</p>\n<p><b>Disney</b></p>\n<p>As adorable as Dogecoin's Shiba Inu mascot is, my view is that the better dogs to bet on are Goofy, the 101 Dalmatians, Lady, Tramp, and Pluto. I'm referring, of course, to investing in shares of&nbsp;<b>Walt Disney</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:DIS).</p>\n<p>There's one thing Disney has that Dogecoin very well might not -- staying power. For decades, fans have enjoyed the company's movies, theme parks, TV shows, and more. And the Disney brand is as strong as ever.</p>\n<p>Sure, the company was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, things are&nbsp;returning to normal at Disney World. Disney&nbsp;land in California has reopened at long last. The increasing availability of vaccines should help Disney regain its stride.</p>\n<p>I think Disney has plenty of growth opportunities over the next decade and beyond. Its Disney+ streaming service especially stands out. Look for the House of Mouse to expand heavily into augmented reality as well. Microsoft's Azure ranks behind only Amazon in cloud market share.</p>\n<p>The tech giant stands as a top player in augmented reality (AR) and gaming as well. Microsoft recently snagged a huge contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to supply AR headsets. Its Xbox gaming system continues to enjoy widespread popularity and is a major growth driver for the company.</p>\n<p>Yes, Microsoft even has a presence in the cryptocurrency arena. To the contrary, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> trader is seeing short opportunities in not only the Nasdaq, but it's biggest component, Apple (AAPL).</p><p>Tech stocks have been lagging the Dow and S&amp;P 500 this year, but JC Parets, founder of allstarcharts.com, explains to Yahoo Finance Live that this phenomenon stretches back to the end of the second quarter of 2020.</p><p>\"The underperformance started [on] Labor Day last year at the end of the summer, and that's when they all peaked ... Amazon has done nothing since then. It's not just tech [stocks], it's really big growth [stocks] and even small cap growth [stocks]. Growth in general peaked at the end of last summer — Apple, Amazon (AMZN), all of them on a relative basis.\"</p><p>The two biggest outperforming S&amp;P 500 sectors this year are energy and financials. The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) is up 38% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) is up 26% year-to-date. Parets says, \"[T]he big winners have been coming out of value [stocks] ... Financials, Berkshire [Hathaway], energy ... Those have been the winners. The losers have been the growth stocks.\"</p><h2>2021 is not 2020</h2><p>Parets also notes the different market environment this year compared to last year — a phenomenon many investors may not be noticing. \"There's so much more evidence that 2021 is just not what 2020 was, right? It is a completely different type of market, and some investors are able to adjust and see the information coming in and act accordingly. And some investors just like to sit on their hands and hope that last year's market was going to continue to be this year's market. I see it every day, and they're paying a price for it,\" he says.</p><p>Parets outlines his trading style using the recent highs of certain trading instruments as a line in the sand. If the price is below the level, he's thinking bearishly. \"[If the index level is] below the February highs in small caps or the Nasdaq, under no circumstances can we be long ... Bottom line is there's no reason to be long if the Nasdaq or small caps are below those February highs.\"</p><p>Apple stock, like many of its peers, has gone largely sideways since September despite making a nominal record high in January. Parets likes a short in Apple based on its relative underperformance, and issues a warning to fund managers who may be loading up on growth stocks at the expense of risk management.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://s.yimg.com/os/creatr-uploaded-images/2021-05/7c956ff0-b29d-11eb-afd7-bb72120e4af7\" tg-width=\"1900\" tg-height=\"902\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>JC Parets breaks down an Apple short</span></p><p>\"I'm hearing that [Ark Investment Management CEO] Cathie Wood considers Apple her cash equivalent. That's pretty scary if you ask me. So, I really like the short a lot. Notice those September highs — where we got to in September was 138. We tried to get back there in January and failed. Most recently, we tried to get back there last month and failed, again. That's the level, 138. If you're below 138, under no circumstances can you own Apple ... I prefer to be short. And how low could it go? ... I could go real low. Why can't it get back toward 100?\" says Parets.</p><h2>Gold making a comeback</h2><p>Parets also highlights how defensive sectors and instruments have been perking up since the March lows. He uses a generalized trading maxim to illustrate how the trends in defensive stocks morphed from bearish to bullish.</p><p>\"First thing assets need to do before they [start going up] is to stop going down. And over the last year, what were the worst assets? Bonds, yen, gold, staples on a relative bases. All the defensive areas were the worst place to be. And that changed in the first quarter of this year. They stopped going down, and over the last couple months, they've actually been going up,\" says Parets.</p><p>When it comes to things that have started to go up, Parets is looking at playing gold. \"We've been bullish gold. That trade's been working — not just the metal, also the [gold] miners as well. Yen stopped going down, bonds stopped going down. They're not really going up, but they're not going down either. And [with consumer] staples, utilities, [and] REITs outperforming, does that remind you of an environment where stocks are doing well? Or should they be doing poorly?\" he asks.</p><p>Separately, Lee Munson, president and CIO at Portfolio Wealth Advisors, is also telling Yahoo Finance Live he likes gold as an investment because the environment for the precious metal has fundamentally changed. \"What moved gold in the past is not what is moving it right now. We have had a regime change. Generally, I see gold as something that tends to go up when the Fed's balance sheet expands. Some people think the balance sheet can't expand anymore. To the contrary, one trader is seeing short opportunities in not only the Nasdaq, but it's biggest component, Apple (AAPL).Tech stocks have been lagging the Dow and S&P 500 this year, but JC Parets, founder of allstarcharts.com, explains to Yahoo Finance Live that this phenomenon stretches back to the end of the second quarter of 2020.\"The underperformance started [on] Labor Day last year at the end of the summer, and that's when they all peaked ... Amazon has done nothing since then. It's not just tech [stocks], it's really big growth [stocks] and even small cap growth [stocks]. Growth in general peaked at the end of last summer — Apple, Amazon (AMZN), all of them on a relative basis.\"The two biggest outperforming S&P 500 sectors this year are energy and financials. The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) is up 38% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) is up 26% year-to-date. Parets says, \"[T]he big winners have been coming out of value [stocks] ... Financials, Berkshire [Hathaway], energy ... Those have been the winners. The losers have been the growth stocks.\"2021 is not 2020Parets also notes the different market environment this year compared to last year — a phenomenon many investors may not be noticing. \"There's so much more evidence that 2021 is just not what 2020 was, right? It is a completely different type of market, and some investors are able to adjust and see the information coming in and act accordingly. And some investors just like to sit on their hands and hope that last year's market was going to continue to be this year's market. I see it every day, and they're paying a price for it,\" he says.Parets outlines his trading style using the recent highs of certain trading instruments as a line in the sand. If the price is below the level, he's thinking bearishly. \"[If the index level is] below the February highs in small caps or the Nasdaq, under no circumstances can we be long ... Bottom line is there's no reason to be long if the Nasdaq or small caps are below those February highs.\"Apple stock, like many of its peers, has gone largely sideways since September despite making a nominal record high in January. Parets likes a short in Apple based on its relative underperformance, and issues a warning to fund managers who may be loading up on growth stocks at the expense of risk management.JC Parets breaks down an Apple short\"I'm hearing that [Ark Investment Management CEO] Cathie Wood considers Apple her cash equivalent. That's pretty scary if you ask me. So, I really like the short a lot. Notice those September highs — where we got to in September was 138. We tried to get back there in January and failed. Most recently, we tried to get back there last month and failed, again. That's the level, 138. If you're below 138, under no circumstances can you own Apple ... I prefer to be short. And how low could it go? ... I could go real low. Why can't it get back toward 100?\" says Parets.Gold making a comebackParets also highlights how defensive sectors and instruments have been perking up since the March lows. He uses a generalized trading maxim to illustrate how the trends in defensive stocks morphed from bearish to bullish.\"First thing assets need to do before they [start going up] is to stop going down. And over the last year, what were the worst assets? Bonds, yen, gold, staples on a relative bases. All the defensive areas were the worst place to be. And that changed in the first quarter of this year. They stopped going down, and over the last couple months, they've actually been going up,\" says Parets.When it comes to things that have started to go up, Parets is looking at playing gold. \"We've been bullish gold. That trade's been working — not just the metal, also the [gold] miners as well. Yen stopped going down, bonds stopped going down. They're not really going up, but they're not going down either. And [with consumer] staples, utilities, [and] REITs outperforming, does that remind you of an environment where stocks are doing well? The annual event is typically a chance for the tech company to introduce changes to the software used everyday by millions of people.</p>\n<p>eyond new gadgets and the introduction of iOS 15, WWDC will also be an opportunity for Apple to address its developer community in the midst of two major recent spats with app makers — a contentious legal battle with Fortnite-maker Epic Games over its App Store fees and a feud with Facebook (FB) over Apple's new app-tracking privacy policy.</p>\n<p>This year, for the second time, Apple's WWDC will be held online, though there will still be plenty for developers to do virtually, including more than 200 sessions on how to build new apps and services.</p>\n<p>The event begins with a keynote at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, June 7. Here's what to expect based on the latest reports and rumors.</p>\n<p><b>New gadgets</b></p>\n<p>The most significant hardware announcement expected during WWDC is the introduction of a redesigned 16-inch MacBook Pro, and possibly a 14-inch version, too, Bloomberg has reported.</p>\n<p>The device — like other recent computer and iPad launches from the company — would likely be built with Apple's M1 chip, which it has said provides longer battery life and faster processing speeds, among other benefits. The new laptop could also bring back the popular MagSafe power connector, Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, said in an email last week.</p>\n<p>Among other hardware updates, Apple could announce a new version of its AirPods, a breakout product for the company but one that is facing increasing competition from the likes of Google and others.</p>\n<p>\"I'm sure Apple is aware of that competition\" and has plans to counter it, said Mike Bailey, director of research at FBB Capital Partners.</p>\n<p>Finally, the iPad could get major new operating system updates, after Apple introduced a new iPad Pro with its M1 chip last fall.</p>\n<p>\"We expect to see the lines between the Mac and the iPad continue to blur with powerful demos of high-performance video editing software and more,\" Wood said.</p>\n<p><b>iMessage gets a social media makeover</b></p>\n<p>Based on the company's promotional materials for WWDC, a centerpiece of the event could be iMessage, the messaging service used by countless Apple device owners.</p>\n<p>The iPhone maker has been working to make iMessage more like a social media platform that competes with Facebook's WhatsApp. Bloomberg reported that iOS 15 iMessage updates will include new options for automatic replies, beyond the existing auto-reply for when users are driving.</p>\n<p>This could further inflame the tensions with Facebook that emerged over privacy.</p>\n<p><b>Focus on privacy</b></p>\n<p>Industry watchers expect Apple to double down on its privacy focus during WWDC this year.</p>\n<p>At last year's conference, Apple announced its iOS 14.5 update that now gives users the option to deny apps permission to track their activity, a move that has drawn the ire of Facebook, which uses this data to target ads. The company is aiming to sell 1 million EVs annually in North America by 2025.</p>\n<p>Those models include electric versions of the company's GMC Hummer and Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Tesla has a loyal customer base, but so does GM. The company's plans include anelectric version of its F-150 pickup truck, which should hit the production lines by mid-2022. Given GM's and Ford's plans, it will not be easy for Tesla to steal away market share in the lucrative pickup-truck segment.</p>\n<p>Other car companies have big plans, as well.<b>Volkswagen</b>(OTC:VWAGY)already sells over 200,000 EVs annually andexpects that number to double this year. The company is aiming to sell roughly 2 million EVs annually by 2025 and expects to launch 70 EV models by 2030.<b>Toyota</b>(NYSE:TM)willlaunch 15 new electric vehicles by 2025, some of which will be under the new Toyota bZ sub-brand. The list goes on.</p>\n<p>Not only will all these electric vehicles provide consumers with a bevy of options beyond Tesla, but they'll also deprive Tesla of its regulatory-credit income as other automakers churn out an increasing number of EVs.</p>\n<p>None of this is to say that Tesla can't be successful in a world where it faces more competition. In my view, the bar was set high enough. Bullishness would most likely be triggered, if at all, by (1) reinstatement of guidance and/or (2) lavish cash return to shareholders, in the form of higher dividends or share repurchases.</p>\n<p>Yes, Apple provided partial guidance for fiscal third quarter, and both the dividend and buyback programs were boosted. But what impressed the most, in my opinion, was the extent of&nbsp;Apple's Q2 beat.</p>\n<p>The company's performance bordered \"unbelievable,\" as Morgan Stanley's analyst pointed out during the conference call. With a historic earnings smasher, Apple made sure to leave no room for post-earnings bearishness.</p>\n<p><b>Earnings crusher</b></p>\n<p>Analyzing Apple's results was relatively easy this time. Virtually all metrics climbed substantially YOY – from total company and per-segment revenues to margins, earnings and cash flow. There was virtually no bad news to speak of.</p>\n<p>Below are the highlights of Apple's results, delivered on April 28. To the best of my knowledge, none of the figures below are typos, as much as they might seem to be.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca500cb00a59b1562e20ea213f11050\" tg-width=\"595\" tg-height=\"189\"><span>Source: DM Martins Research, data from company report</span></p>\n<ul>\n <li><b>iPhone</b>&nbsp;growth of 66%, supported primarily by the strong performance of the Pro and Pro Max models;</li>\n <li><b>iPad</b>&nbsp;growth of 79%, which compares favorably to Microsoft's (MSFT) 12% increase in Surface revenues and the broad industry's&nbsp;projected&nbsp;double-digit decline in tablet unit sales in first calendar quarter;</li>\n <li><b>Mac</b>&nbsp;growth of 70%, a result of (1) a strong lineup of M1-equipped devices and (2) stay-at-home trends still playing a crucial role in global markets, particularly Europe;</li>\n <li><b>Services</b>&nbsp;growth of 27% that, contrary to popular belief, accelerated compared to pre-pandemic levels;</li>\n <li><b>Greater China</b>&nbsp;growth of 87%, due in part to the country being ahead in the COVID-19 cycle, definitely turning this market from a 2015-2020 loser into a winner over the past six months;</li>\n <li><b>Gross margin</b>&nbsp;expansion of over four percentage points due to cost savings and favorable mix;</li>\n <li><b>Op margin</b>&nbsp;expansion of more than eight percentage points due to gross margin increase and gains of scale.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>To be fair, a few one-off factors may have helped to turn an otherwise strong second quarter into a record-shattering one. The odd timing in the launch of the iPhone 12 in 2020 created a revenue gap in the holiday period that is still being smoothed out today. Also, COVID-19 has lasted longer than some may have wished in parts of the world, extending the stay-at-home tailwinds.</p>\n<p><b>Stock is cheap again</b></p>\n<p>With impressive results under the belt, Apple climbed modestly after the closing bell. Between the regular and after-hours trading sessions, the stock gained about 1.5%, pushing shares closer to their all-time high of $143.</p>\n<p>Despite the small earnings day gains, Apple exits this season a more affordable stock. The math is fairly simple:</p>\n<ol>\n <li>The monstrous 42-cent Q2 EPS beat alone should push fiscal 2021 consensus higher, to $4.87;</li>\n <li>Guidance for Q3 was incomplete, but I conservatively estimate that it points at another 20-cent gap to consensus, at least. Both quarters combined add up to new fiscal 2021 EPS expectations of about $5.10.</li>\n</ol>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5e4cd98b9d528f253ba92a277e6dab5f\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"436\"><span>Data by YCharts</span></p>\n<p>Apple's after-hours share price of $136 divided by a conservative $5.10 in fiscal 2021 EPS suggests a current-year P/E of only 26.8x. This is roughly in line with AAPL's pre-pandemic valuation multiple, and lower than those of tech peers whose stocks are sometimes considered \"value,\" like Facebook (FB) and Alphabet (GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL). But, due to substantially higher 2021 projected EPS, I estimate that P/E has dipped to pre-pandemic levels.\n\nPhoto by Drew Angerer/Getty Images News via Getty Images\nIn my earnings preview, I sounded skeptical that Apple (AAPL) could see its stock climb solely on the back of above consensus fiscal second quarter results. In my view, the bar was set high enough. Bullishness would most likely be triggered, if at all, by (1) reinstatement of guidance and/or (2) lavish cash return to shareholders, in the form of higher dividends or share repurchases.\nYes, Apple provided partial guidance for fiscal third quarter, and both the dividend and buyback programs were boosted. But what impressed the most, in my opinion, was the extent of Apple's Q2 beat.\nThe company's performance bordered \"unbelievable,\" as Morgan Stanley's analyst pointed out during the conference call. With a historic earnings smasher, Apple made sure to leave no room for post-earnings bearishness.\nEarnings crusher\nAnalyzing Apple's results was relatively easy this time. Virtually all metrics climbed substantially YOY – from total company and per-segment revenues to margins, earnings and cash flow. There was virtually no bad news to speak of.\nBelow are the highlights of Apple's results, delivered on April 28. To the best of my knowledge, none of the figures below are typos, as much as they might seem to be.\nSource: DM Martins Research, data from company report\n\niPhone growth of 66%, supported primarily by the strong performance of the Pro and Pro Max models;\niPad growth of 79%, which compares favorably to Microsoft's (MSFT) 12% increase in Surface revenues and the broad industry's projected double-digit decline in tablet unit sales in first calendar quarter;\nMac growth of 70%, a result of (1) a strong lineup of M1-equipped devices and (2) stay-at-home trends still playing a crucial role in global markets, particularly Europe;\nServices growth of 27% that, contrary to popular belief, accelerated compared to pre-pandemic levels;\nGreater China growth of 87%, due in part to the country being ahead in the COVID-19 cycle, definitely turning this market from a 2015-2020 loser into a winner over the past six months;\nGross margin expansion of over four percentage points due to cost savings and favorable mix;\nOp margin expansion of more than eight percentage points due to gross margin increase and gains of scale.\n\nTo be fair, a few one-off factors may have helped to turn an otherwise strong second quarter into a record-shattering one. The odd timing in the launch of the iPhone 12 in 2020 created a revenue gap in the holiday period that is still being smoothed out today. Also, COVID-19 has lasted longer than some may have wished in parts of the world, extending the stay-at-home tailwinds.\nStock is cheap again\nWith impressive results under the belt, Apple climbed modestly after the closing bell. Between the regular and after-hours trading sessions, the stock gained about 1.5%, pushing shares closer to their all-time high of $143.\nDespite the small earnings day gains, Apple exits this season a more affordable stock. The math is fairly simple:\n\nThe monstrous 42-cent Q2 EPS beat alone should push fiscal 2021 consensus higher, to $4.87;\nGuidance for Q3 was incomplete, but I conservatively estimate that it points at another 20-cent gap to consensus, at least. Both quarters combined add up to new fiscal 2021 EPS expectations of about $5.10.\n\nData by YCharts\nApple's after-hours share price of $136 divided by a conservative $5.10 in fiscal 2021 EPS suggests a current-year P/E of only 26.8x. This is roughly in line with AAPL's pre-pandemic valuation multiple, and lower than those of tech peers whose stocks are sometimes considered \"value,\" like Facebook (FB) and Alphabet (GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL). But after companies like Tesla (TSLA), Square (SQ) and MicroStrategy (MSTR) bought Bitcoin, many are wondering who could be next?</p>\n<p>Some companies are more positioned to offer crypto-related products and services than others, making them more likely candidates for a Bitcoin investment. Companies that could be more likely to purchase Bitcoin include payment providers, e-commerce sites and varying tech-driven corporations.</p>\n<p><b>Fast Facts</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li><b>Facebook's</b>&nbsp;earnings revealed no Bitcoin, but its endeavors into crypto with its “Diem” project may position it to move into Bitcoin down the line.</li>\n <li><b>Twitter's</b>&nbsp;founder, Jack Dorsey, is a known Bitcoiner. Plus, Twitter's CFO has already publicly stated that it is looking at holding Bitcoin on its Balance sheet.</li>\n <li><b>Google's</b>&nbsp;payments app, Google Pay, seems like a prime candidate to double as a crypto wallet for its over 150 million&nbsp;users. Its co-founder, Sergey Brin, has had positive comments on blockchain in the past, making the idea of Google owning Bitcoin in the future less outlandish.</li>\n <li>If&nbsp;<b>Amazon</b>&nbsp;were to start accepting crypto on its site, the digital assets' real-world usability would skyrocket. Amazon recently posted jobs for a digital currency project that is still unknown, proving that the company is aware of the growing trend in the payments industry.</li>\n <li><b>Mastercard</b>&nbsp;has jumped into the crypto industry by announcing it would start to support cryptocurrencies on its network. The company is also working with Gemini on a crypto rewards credit card.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>Facebook</b></p>\n<p>While there was a lot of hype around Facebook's earnings report and its potential to hold Bitcoin, there is still a chance the company could make such a move.</p>\n<p>Facebook has spent significant resources building its own cryptocurrency and wallet infrastructure. This investment has shown that the company has a great deal of interest in the digital assets and payments space.</p>\n<p>Facebook also has two board members that are pro-Bitcoin with Peter Thiel and Marc Andreesen, which doesn't hurt.</p>\n<p>Facebook's stablecoin, \"Diem,\" is set to launch a pilot sometime in 2021. As the company slowly movies into the crypto scene and establishes itself with its stablecoin and digital wallet systems, it could become more realistic for it to hold Bitcoin on its balance sheet.</p>\n<p><b>Twitter</b></p>\n<p>It's no secret that Twitter's (TWTR) founder, Jack Dorsey, is a major Bitcoiner. Dorsey has one thing in his Twitter bio: #Bitcoin.</p>\n<p>Dorsey also founded the payments company Square. In 2013, Square launched CashApp, a digital and peer-to-peer payments system. CashApp also allows its users to invest similarly to Robinhood and other apps. In 2018 the app began allowing its users to buy, send and receive Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies from the app.</p>\n<p>In October, Square announced that it would buy $50 million worth of Bitcoin, equating to 4,709 Bitcoins at the time. In February, Twitter's chief financial officer said the company is considering the option of holding Bitcoin on its balance sheet during an&nbsp;interview&nbsp;with Squawk Box.</p>\n<p>“We have done a lot of the upfront thinking to consider how we might pay employees should they ask to be paid in&nbsp;bitcoin, how we might pay a vendor if they asked to be paid in bitcoin and whether we need to have bitcoin on our balance sheet,” said Ned Segal, Twitter's CFO.</p>\n<p>Given Dorsey's stance on Bitcoin and the comments from Twitter's CFO, it would not be outlandish to hear an announcement that Twitter has purchased Bitcoin.</p>\n<p><b>Google</b></p>\n<p>Google (GOOGL) has the potential to become more involved with crypto in general for a couple of reasons. Perhaps the most obvious is Google Pay, which seems primed for crypto integration.</p>\n<p>Currently, users can use BitPay's card to use their cryptocurrencies through Google's payment app, but adding the ability for users to buy, hold and spend crypto directly in the app seems like an obvious choice in a world where crypto adoption has been growing.</p>\n<p>Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, has also shared a positive outlook on the blockchain space. In 2019 the tech billionaire had&nbsp;comments&nbsp;about the promise the tech showed and how he and his son once mined Ethereum together.</p>\n<p>“I see the future as taking these kind of research-y kind of out-there ideas and making them real,\" he said about blockchain.&nbsp;“A year or two ago my son insisted that we needed to get a gaming PC. I told him If we get a gaming PC we have to mine cryptocurrency. So we got an ethereum miner on there and we’ve been making a few pennies and dollars since.”</p>\n<p>Regarding his experience, Brin said,&nbsp;“that definitely got me interested and I started to study the technology behind it and found it to be fascinating.”</p>\n<p>Google would likely add support for cryptocurrency to Google Pay long before it ever puts Bitcoin on its balance sheet, but it doesn't seem unrealistic for Google to one day own some Bitcoin.</p>\n<p><b>Amazon</b></p>\n<p>If Amazon (AMZN) were to make a move into crypto it would make huge waves in the cryptocurrency industry and help to further legitimize digital assets. Amazon accepting Bitcoin or other crypto assets would mean that individuals would be able to get their daily needs with only crypto.</p>\n<p>In February of this year, Amazon announced that Jeff Bezos would step down as CEO to be replaced by Andy Jassy. Prior to becoming Amazon's CEO, Jassy ran Amazon Web Services. Under his leadership, AWS launched the Amazon Managed Blockchain that allowed developers to build on Hyperledger or Ethereum without using their own hardware.</p>\n<p>It was also&nbsp;revealed&nbsp;in February that Amazon had a number of job postings that seemed to point towards some sort of digital currency project for a new division called Digital and Emerging Payments.</p>\n<p>One of the postings said, “We are looking for a leader to help us launch a new payment product starting with Mexico as our initial launch country. This product will enable customers to convert their cash in to digital currency which customers can enjoy online services including shopping for goods and/or services like Prime Video.”</p>\n<p>Jassy's experience with blockchain could allow him to be more open to the company's acceptance of crypto payments. More importantly, the company's somewhat secretive Digital and Emerging Payments division suggest that Amazon is already developing such a system to accept alternative payments in the future.</p>\n<p><b>Mastercard</b></p>\n<p>In early February, Mastercard (MA) made a huge&nbsp;announcement&nbsp;when it said they would soon start supporting cryptocurrencies directly on its network.</p>\n<p>\"We are preparing right now for the future of crypto and payments, announcing that this year Mastercard will start supporting select cryptocurrencies directly on our network. This is a big change that will require a lot of work,\" the company said in its press release.</p>\n<p>The company went on to say that its decision is all about choice.</p>\n<p>\"Our philosophy on cryptocurrencies is straightforward: It’s about choice. Mastercard isn’t here to recommend you start using cryptocurrencies. But we are here to enable customers, merchants and businesses to move digital value – traditional or crypto – however they want. It should be your choice, it’s your money.\"</p>\n<p>Mastercard is also working with the Gemini Exchange to offer a crypto rewards credit card. That rumor turned out to be false. But after companies like Tesla (TSLA), Square (SQ) and MicroStrategy (MSTR) bought Bitcoin, many are wondering who could be next?\nSome companies are more positioned to offer crypto-related products and services than others, making them more likely candidates for a Bitcoin investment. Companies that could be more likely to purchase Bitcoin include payment providers, e-commerce sites and varying tech-driven corporations.\nFast Facts\n\nFacebook's earnings revealed no Bitcoin, but its endeavors into crypto with its “Diem” project may position it to move into Bitcoin down the line.\nTwitter's founder, Jack Dorsey, is a known Bitcoiner. Plus, Twitter's CFO has already publicly stated that it is looking at holding Bitcoin on its Balance sheet.\nGoogle's payments app, Google Pay, seems like a prime candidate to double as a crypto wallet for its over 150 million users. Its co-founder, Sergey Brin, has had positive comments on blockchain in the past, making the idea of Google owning Bitcoin in the future less outlandish.\nIf Amazon were to start accepting crypto on its site, the digital assets' real-world usability would skyrocket. Amazon recently posted jobs for a digital currency project that is still unknown, proving that the company is aware of the growing trend in the payments industry.\nMastercard has jumped into the crypto industry by announcing it would start to support cryptocurrencies on its network. The company is also working with Gemini on a crypto rewards credit card.\n\nFacebook\nWhile there was a lot of hype around Facebook's earnings report and its potential to hold Bitcoin, there is still a chance the company could make such a move.\nFacebook has spent significant resources building its own cryptocurrency and wallet infrastructure. This investment has shown that the company has a great deal of interest in the digital assets and payments space.\nFacebook also has two board members that are pro-Bitcoin with Peter Thiel and Marc Andreesen, which doesn't hurt.\nFacebook's stablecoin, \"Diem,\" is set to launch a pilot sometime in 2021. As the company slowly movies into the crypto scene and establishes itself with its stablecoin and digital wallet systems, it could become more realistic for it to hold Bitcoin on its balance sheet.\nTwitter\nIt's no secret that Twitter's (TWTR) founder, Jack Dorsey, is a major Bitcoiner. Dorsey has one thing in his Twitter bio: #Bitcoin.\nDorsey also founded the payments company Square. In 2013, Square launched CashApp, a digital and peer-to-peer payments system. CashApp also allows its users to invest similarly to Robinhood and other apps. In 2018 the app began allowing its users to buy, send and receive Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies from the app.\nIn October, Square announced that it would buy $50 million worth of Bitcoin, equating to 4,709 Bitcoins at the time. In February, Twitter's chief financial officer said the company is considering the option of holding Bitcoin on its balance sheet during an interview with Squawk Box.\n“We have done a lot of the upfront thinking to consider how we might pay employees should they ask to be paid in bitcoin, how we might pay a vendor if they asked to be paid in bitcoin and whether we need to have bitcoin on our balance sheet,” said Ned Segal, Twitter's CFO.\nGiven Dorsey's stance on Bitcoin and the comments from Twitter's CFO, it would not be outlandish to hear an announcement that Twitter has purchased Bitcoin.\nGoogle\nGoogle (GOOGL) has the potential to become more involved with crypto in general for a couple of reasons. Perhaps the most obvious is Google Pay, which seems primed for crypto integration.\nCurrently, users can use BitPay's card to use their cryptocurrencies through Google's payment app, but adding the ability for users to buy, hold and spend crypto directly in the app seems like an obvious choice in a world where crypto adoption has been growing.\nSergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, has also shared a positive outlook on the blockchain space. In 2019 the tech billionaire had comments about the promise the tech showed and how he and his son once mined Ethereum together.\n“I see the future as taking these kind of research-y kind of out-there ideas and making them real,\" he said about blockchain. “A year or two ago my son insisted that we needed to get a gaming PC. I told him If we get a gaming PC we have to mine cryptocurrency. So we got an ethereum miner on there and we’ve been making a few pennies and dollars since.”\nRegarding his experience, Brin said, “that definitely got me interested and I started to study the technology behind it and found it to be fascinating.”\nGoogle would likely add support for cryptocurrency to Google Pay long before it ever puts Bitcoin on its balance sheet, but it doesn't seem unrealistic for Google to one day own some Bitcoin.\nAmazon\nIf Amazon (AMZN) were to make a move into crypto it would make huge waves in the cryptocurrency industry and help to further legitimize digital assets. Amazon accepting Bitcoin or other crypto assets would mean that individuals would be able to get their daily needs with only crypto.\nIn February of this year, Amazon announced that Jeff Bezos would step down as CEO to be replaced by Andy Jassy. Prior to becoming Amazon's CEO, Jassy ran Amazon Web Services. Under his leadership, AWS launched the Amazon Managed Blockchain that allowed developers to build on Hyperledger or Ethereum without using their own hardware.\nIt was also revealed in February that Amazon had a number of job postings that seemed to point towards some sort of digital currency project for a new division called Digital and Emerging Payments.\nOne of the postings said, “We are looking for a leader to help us launch a new payment product starting with Mexico as our initial launch country. This product will enable customers to convert their cash in to digital currency which customers can enjoy online services including shopping for goods and/or services like Prime Video.”\nJassy's experience with blockchain could allow him to be more open to the company's acceptance of crypto payments. More importantly, the company's somewhat secretive Digital and Emerging Payments division suggest that Amazon is already developing such a system to accept alternative payments in the future.\nMastercard\nIn early February, Mastercard (MA) made a huge announcement when it said they would soon start supporting cryptocurrencies directly on its network.\n\"We are preparing right now for the future of crypto and payments, announcing that this year Mastercard will start supporting select cryptocurrencies directly on our network. This is a big change that will require a lot of work,\" the company said in its press release.\nThe company went on to say that its decision is all about choice.\n\"Our philosophy on cryptocurrencies is straightforward: It’s about choice. Mastercard isn’t here to recommend you start using cryptocurrencies. But we are here to enable customers, merchants and businesses to move digital value – traditional or crypto – however they want. It should be your choice, it’s your money.\"\nMastercard is also working with the Gemini Exchange to offer a crypto rewards credit card.
