Microsoft (MSFT) also thinks so highly of its outlook that it believes it could surpass $50 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time with its next report. Investors should also be pleased with how Microsoft (MSFT) has performed on the stock market this year, as its shares have climbed more than 44% since the end of 2021.
\n
And then there was the symbolic, if temporary, victory Microsoft (MSFT) could claim in October when it briefly took the title of World's Most Valuable Company away from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). So, needless to say, 2021 has been a good year for Microsoft (MSFT).
\n
But, this begs the question of what 2022 might look like for Microsoft (MSFT), and what are going to be the top priorities for Chief Executive Satya Nadella. While Microsoft (MSFT) may still be best-known to many for its Windows operating system, its Microsoft Word program and its Xbox videogame console, the company's data platform and management offerings are likely the areas where Nadella is focusing much of his attention.
\n
That's the opinion of Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss, who said that Nadella's earnings call comments \"match well to the key priorities Microsoft is investing most aggressively behind.\" Based on how data offerings such as platforms and databases like Azure are playing a role in Microsoft's (MSFT) growth, it should come as no surprise that Nadella would make such areas a focus of the company's overall strategy for the foreseeable future.
\n
Weiss noted that based on industry data, Microsoft (MSFT) has become the No. 1 vendor for data management offerings, with a 28% share of the market. Microsoft (MSFT) also thinks so highly of its outlook that it believes it could surpass $50 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time with its next report. Investors should also be pleased with how Microsoft (MSFT) has performed on the stock market this year, as its shares have climbed more than 44% since the end of 2021.\nAnd then there was the symbolic, if temporary, victory Microsoft (MSFT) could claim in October when it briefly took the title of World's Most Valuable Company away from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). So, needless to say, 2021 has been a good year for Microsoft (MSFT).\nBut, this begs the question of what 2022 might look like for Microsoft (MSFT), and what are going to be the top priorities for Chief Executive Satya Nadella. While Microsoft (MSFT) may still be best-known to many for its Windows operating system, its Microsoft Word program and its Xbox videogame console, the company's data platform and management offerings are likely the areas where Nadella is focusing much of his attention.\nThat's the opinion of Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss, who said that Nadella's earnings call comments \"match well to the key priorities Microsoft is investing most aggressively behind.\" Based on how data offerings such as platforms and databases like Azure are playing a role in Microsoft's (MSFT) growth, it should come as no surprise that Nadella would make such areas a focus of the company's overall strategy for the foreseeable future.\nWeiss noted that based on industry data, Microsoft (MSFT) has become the No. 1 vendor for data management offerings, with a 28% share of the market. For comparison, Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) is the No. 2 company, with a 22% market share, and Amazon Web Services (NASDAQ:AMZN) is in third place with 9% of the data management market.\nWeiss, who has an outperform rating and $364-a-share target price on Microsoft's (MSFT) stock, noted that data platform products and services made up about 12% of the company's total revenue during the first half of 2021, up from 10% in 2017. Sidus Space (ticker: SIDU), a satellite company, soared nearly 144% during its debut Wednesday, while Fresh Vine Wine (VINE), a producer of low-carb wine, dropped below its offer price. Two companies, biotechs Bionomics and Immix Biopharma, are slated to begin trading Thursday.\nSamsara (ticker: IOT) is the most notable IPO this week. Shares of the Internet-of-things firm kicked off at $24.90 and closed at $24.70, up $1.70 from its offer price.\nThe company raised $805 million after selling 35 million shares at $23 each, the top of its $20-to-$23 price range.\nAt $24.70 a share, Samsara’s valuation is $12.3 billion. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, J.P.Morgan, and Allen & Co. are lead underwriters on the deal.\nFounded in 2015 by CEO Sanjit Biswas and John Bicket, chief technology officer, San Francisco-based Samsara provides a connected operations cloud and sensors that are used by companies to manage their vehicle fleets and industrial operations. (Biswas and Bicket previously founded cloud infrastructure start-up Meraki which they sold to Cisco Systems (CSCO) in 2012.)\nSamsara’s technology collects data including video footage, people, and motion-detection, GPS location, and energy consumption. Companies can use this information to improve safety, lower insurance costs, and reduce the need for manual oversight and judgment, the prospectus said.\nSamsara has raised $930 million in funding, according to Crunchbase. This includes a $400 million funding round in May 2020 from investors including asset manager AllianceBernstein, investment firm Franklin Templeton, private-equity firms General Atlantic and Warburg Pincus, along with hedge fund Sands Capital Management, a statement from that time said.\nAndreessen Horowitz, a venture firm that often invests in technology startups, will have 17.5% of Samsara total voting power, while General Catalyst, a venture-capital firm, will hold nearly 10%.\nShares of Genenta Science (GNTA) opened at $10.05 and ended at $11, down more than 4% from its offer price.\nGenenta Science’s much smaller IPO collected about $36 million. The Milan, Italy-based biotech sold 2.4 million American depositary shares, or ADSs, at $11.50 each, the middle of its $10.50-to-$12.50 price range. Each ADS represents one ordinary share. Roth Capital Partners is underwriter on the deal.\nGenenta is developing hematopoietic stem-cell gene therapies. Its lead product candidate, Temferon, treats glioblastoma multiforme, or GBM, a common malignant primary brain tumor. The company said it is currently conducting a Phase 1/2a dose-escalation clinical trial with Temferon in newly diagnosed GBM patients in Italy.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":995,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":607509673,"gmtCreate":1639555359014,"gmtModify":1639555359271,"author":{"id":"3582358454168309","authorId":"3582358454168309","name":"chqngchang","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b56233832049ceeac966ba711e0e1f75","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582358454168309","authorIdStr":"3582358454168309"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Smile] ","listText":"[Smile] ","text":"[Smile]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/607509673","repostId":"1113467211","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1325,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":607509122,"gmtCreate":1639555329082,"gmtModify":1639555425041,"author":{"id":"3582358454168309","authorId":"3582358454168309","name":"chqngchang","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b56233832049ceeac966ba711e0e1f75","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582358454168309","authorIdStr":"3582358454168309"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Speechless] ","listText":"[Speechless] ","text":"[Speechless]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/607509122","repostId":"1113467211","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1777,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":607921337,"gmtCreate":1639476799342,"gmtModify":1639476799601,"author":{"id":"3582358454168309","authorId":"3582358454168309","name":"chqngchang","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b56233832049ceeac966ba711e0e1f75","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582358454168309","authorIdStr":"3582358454168309"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Grin] sounds good","listText":"[Grin] sounds good","text":"[Grin] sounds good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/607921337","repostId":"1105025097","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1105025097","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1639474546,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1105025097?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-14 17:35","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Pfizer vaccine protecting against hospitalisation during Omicron wave - study","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1105025097","media":"Reuters","summary":"Two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine appear to have given 70% protection against hospital","content":"
Two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine appear to have given 70% protection against hospitalization in South Africa in recent weeks, a major real-world study on the potential impact of Omicron showed on Tuesday, as the country battles a spike in infections linked to the new variant.
\n
The study released by South Africa's largest private health insurance administrator, Discovery Health, was based on more than 211,000 positive COVID-19 test results from Nov. 15 to Dec. 7, around 78,000 of which were attributed to Omicron.
\n
The 78,000 results are not confirmed Omicron cases, meaning the study is not able to draw conclusive findings about the variant labeled \"of concern\" by the World Health Organization.
\n
South African scientists have so far confirmed around 550 Omicron sequences, with the variant accounting for 78% of sequences from November, more than the previously dominant Delta variant.
\n
South Africa alerted the world to Omicron late last month, triggering an alarm that it could cause another surge in global infections, and lead to the imposition of travel restrictions on southern Africa. disappointing results, but isn’t a strategy for the future.\n
\n
A surprise share buyback from Japanese gaming champion Nintendo Co., Ltd. should help soothe investors who have held on as the stock dropped more than 10% this year.
\n
Nintendo is clearly cash rich, but it needs to articulate a clearer vision for the future as the stay-at-home boost from the pandemic fades.
\n
The Japanese game company on Thursday reported a 17% decline in operating profit for the quarter ending in June, while revenue dropped 10%—both lower than analysts’ estimates on S&P Global Market Intelligence. Nintendo’s profit decline isn’t a surprise given its exceptional performance last year due to stay-at-home demand. The company sold fewer of its Switch consoles and games during the quarter, compared with the same period last year. “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” released in April last year, isone of its fastest-selling games. The company is sitting on around $10 billion of cash as well as nearly $6 billion of securities. That seems to indicate it could just be a one-off since the boost from Covid-19 likely won’t be repeated.
\n
The rare buyback will likely boost Nintendo’s share price in the short term, but the company needs to prepare for leaner times ahead too. news belowto see why holders of GAME stock are smiling today.
\n
\n
Let’s start with the company’s revenue in fiscal Q4, which came in at $11.8 million.
\n
That’s good news as it beats out Wall Street’s estimate of $10.8 million for the quarter.
\n
It’s also a nice boost over the $7 million reported in the same period of the year prior.
\n
Fiscal 2021 revenue also came in at $37.2 million.
\n
That’s another win for GAME stock over analysts’ estimate of $36.26 million.
\n
It also represents a 253% increase from the $10.5 million reported for fiscal 2020.
\n
\n
Tom Rogers, executive chairman of Engine Gaming and Media, said this in the earnings report.
\n
\n “As younger demographics increasingly desert traditional media in favor of seeking social experiences in the gaming space – whether participating as a player or as a viewer of competitions – and are increasingly influenced in their marketing decisions by social content creators – we are investing to make our social experiences more robust and more unique for our users, while making our ability to execute social marketing and ad campaigns more effective and efficient for our industry clients.”\n
\n
GAME stock is experiencing heavy trading today following its earnings report. As of this writing, more than 12 million shares of the stock have changed hands. That’s a massive jump compared to the company’s daily average trading volume of about 202,000 shares.
\n
GAME stock is up 18.2% as of Wednesday morning.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; MACD (moving average convergence divergence) ranks among the key stock market indicators (along with moving averages and RSI) that traders use consistently in their analysis.
\n
Let’s discuss a number of creative ways to use this powerful and versatile gauge.
\n
MACD, introduced in the late 1970s, is a trend-following momentum indicator. It helps to determine when a trend, and its associated momentum (i.e., directional speed and duration) has ended or begun, or might reverse direction.
\n
Be aware that MACD is a “lagging” or “backward-looking” indicator, which means its signals are delayed, but don’t let that deter you. When MACD yields a signal, it is often significant, especially if used on a weekly chart (versus the daily chart favored by short-term traders). In fact, the longer the MACD time frame, the more valid the results, which is one reason longer-term traders like myself prefer to use a weekly chart.
\n
When you view MACD on a chart, you see two lines. The black line is referred to as the “MACD line.” The gray (or red) line is referred to as the “signal line.” Remember: the MACD line is the leader line, while the signal line is the laggard line.
\n
In addition, a horizontal line runs across the chart called the “zero line” (0 line). The main function of the zero line is to alert you to the primary trend of the underlying price action.
\n
Four simple trading signals
\n
At its most basic level, MACD generates four signals:
\n
Buy:When the MACD line crosses above the zero line, it’s bullish.
\n
Buy:When the MACD line crosses above the nine-day signal line, it’s bullish.
\n
Sell:When the MACD line crosses below the zero line, it’s bearish.
\n
Sell:When the MACD line crosses below the nine-day signal line, it’s bearish.
\n
Note: When both the MACD line and nine-day signal line move in the same direction (uptrend or downtrend), that is a stronger, more significant signal.
\n
Keep in mind that just because MACD generates a buy or sell signal does not mean it is an actionable trade. Like that of any indicator, there are false signals. In addition, it’s essential that you confirm with other indicators before betting real money on a trade. Think of these MACD buy and sell signals as guidelines, not rules.
\n
Another limitation of MACD is that it does not work as well at stock market tops or when market volatility is low. Therefore, if you use MACD on the Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA,-0.48%or the S&P 500SPX,-0.91%in this current market, the signal is not as useful. That is why you should use MACD on individual stocks until volatility returns to the major market indexes.
\n
What MACD says about Tesla now
\n
For example, the weekly stock chart of TeslaTSLA,+0.33%shows its MACD is above the zero line, and the MACD line is above the signal line. Tesla is also above its moving averages.
\n
Based on this information, Tesla stock currently is a short-term “strong” buy. If Tesla’s MACD line drops below its signal line while both lines are above the zero line, the shares would be a “moderate” buy.
\n
A few years ago, I spoke with MACD’s creator, Gerald Appel. He told me that he created MACD in the late 1970s by entering numbers into a punch machine and a spreadsheet. After the personal computer was invented, he was able to automate the process.
\n
Appel expressed surprise that MACD became so popular. “It works because it’s adaptable to any time frame,” he said. “You can get a good reading of the major trend of the market by using MACD patterns that are based on monthly data. You can also use it on a five-minute chart.”
\n
MACD gives the most precise signals at market bottoms. Said Appel: “It’s more accurate at market low points than high points because of the way the market behaves. Market bottoms tend to be very sharp and pronounced, while tops tend to be broad and slow. It’s also possible for the market averages to keep drifting upwards while more and more stocks are falling.”
\n
Appel cautioned that you must confirm MACD signals against other indicators. “No indicator is infallible,” he said. “You might get a market rise and MACD turns down. Perhaps you think this is a sell signal. Well, it might not be.”
\n
Appel added that he likes to work with different MACD time frames simultaneously. For example, if the short-term MACD turns up along with the intermediate MACD, he’s more confident that the signal is valid.
\n
The MACD-Histogram
\n
One of the most powerful (but often ignored) additions to the MACD is the MACD-Histogram. Developed by Thomas Aspray in 1986, this oscillator is used to gauge momentum. It is a separate program that should be available on your charting package. Traders who use this feature typically view both MACD and the histogram on a stock chart simultaneously.
\n
The histogram is a series of bar graphs at the bottom of the stock screen. If the bars move above the zero line, it means the underlying stock (or index) is gaining strength, i.e., momentum. If the bars move below the zero line, the stock or index is losing strength.
\n
Many beginning traders don’t realize that momentum always changes before price does. That is what makes MACD and the MACD-Histogram so valuable. Both indicators detect when momentum is weakening. It could also be a signal to become bullish if the histogram bars move above the zero line.
\n
Histogram signals
\n
\n
If the MACD-Histogram bar changes to a lighter color, it means that momentum is diminishing. It is not a sell signal; it simply means that enthusiasm for that particular stock is waning.
\n
\n
\n
As mentioned earlier, if the histogram bar rises above the zero line, that is a buy signal. An uptrend may be developing. If the histogram bar drops below the zero line, that is a sell signal. A downtrend may be developing.
\n
\n
Red flags
\n
If you see the index prices as well as stock prices move higher, but MACD turns lower, that is a red flag. In addition, if you see the MACD-Histogram changing colors and the bars getting shorter, that confirms momentum is weakening (but confirm this against RSI or stochastics).
\n
If you have never used MACD or MACD-Histogram, give it a try. Use these measures for any stock that has hit bottom and is on its way higher. They’ll help confirm whether the stock has legs or is a just giving traders a head fake.
\n
Michael Sincere (michaelsincere.com) is the author of “Understanding Options” and “Understanding Stocks.”
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Savvy stock traders use these 2 insider tips to know when to buy and sell
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nSavvy stock traders use these 2 insider tips to know when to buy and sell\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-20 15:34 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
MACD and the MACD-Histogram can give your trading portfolio a boost.\n\nFor many stock traders, four letters can spell the difference between a winning and losing position. MACD (moving average convergence divergence) ranks among the key stock market indicators (along with moving averages and RSI) that traders use consistently in their analysis.\nLet’s discuss a number of creative ways to use this powerful and versatile gauge.\nMACD, introduced in the late 1970s, is a trend-following momentum indicator. It helps to determine when a trend, and its associated momentum (i.e., directional speed and duration) has ended or begun, or might reverse direction.\nBe aware that MACD is a “lagging” or “backward-looking” indicator, which means its signals are delayed, but don’t let that deter you. When MACD yields a signal, it is often significant, especially if used on a weekly chart (versus the daily chart favored by short-term traders). In fact, the longer the MACD time frame, the more valid the results, which is one reason longer-term traders like myself prefer to use a weekly chart.\nWhen you view MACD on a chart, you see two lines. The black line is referred to as the “MACD line.” The gray (or red) line is referred to as the “signal line.” Remember: the MACD line is the leader line, while the signal line is the laggard line.\nIn addition, a horizontal line runs across the chart called the “zero line” (0 line). The main function of the zero line is to alert you to the primary trend of the underlying price action.\nFour simple trading signals\nAt its most basic level, MACD generates four signals:\nBuy:When the MACD line crosses above the zero line, it’s bullish.\nBuy:When the MACD line crosses above the nine-day signal line, it’s bullish.\nSell:When the MACD line crosses below the zero line, it’s bearish.\nSell:When the MACD line crosses below the nine-day signal line, it’s bearish.\nNote: When both the MACD line and nine-day signal line move in the same direction (uptrend or downtrend), that is a stronger, more significant signal.\nKeep in mind that just because MACD generates a buy or sell signal does not mean it is an actionable trade. Like that of any indicator, there are false signals. In addition, it’s essential that you confirm with other indicators before betting real money on a trade. Think of these MACD buy and sell signals as guidelines, not rules.\nAnother limitation of MACD is that it does not work as well at stock market tops or when market volatility is low. Therefore, if you use MACD on the Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA,-0.48%or the S&P 500SPX,-0.91%in this current market, the signal is not as useful. That is why you should use MACD on individual stocks until volatility returns to the major market indexes.\nWhat MACD says about Tesla now\nFor example, the weekly stock chart of TeslaTSLA,+0.33%shows its MACD is above the zero line, and the MACD line is above the signal line. Tesla is also above its moving averages.\nBased on this information, Tesla stock currently is a short-term “strong” buy. If Tesla’s MACD line drops below its signal line while both lines are above the zero line, the shares would be a “moderate” buy.\nA few years ago, I spoke with MACD’s creator, Gerald Appel. He told me that he created MACD in the late 1970s by entering numbers into a punch machine and a spreadsheet. After the personal computer was invented, he was able to automate the process.\nAppel expressed surprise that MACD became so popular. “It works because it’s adaptable to any time frame,” he said. “You can get a good reading of the major trend of the market by using MACD patterns that are based on monthly data. You can also use it on a five-minute chart.”\nMACD gives the most precise signals at market bottoms. It’s also possible for the market averages to keep drifting upwards while more and more stocks are falling.”\nAppel cautioned that you must confirm MACD signals against other indicators. “No indicator is infallible,” he said. “You might get a market rise and MACD turns down. Perhaps you think this is a sell signal. Well, it might not be.”\nAppel added that he likes to work with different MACD time frames simultaneously. For example, if the short-term MACD turns up along with the intermediate MACD, he’s more confident that the signal is valid.\nThe MACD-Histogram\nOne of the most powerful (but often ignored) additions to the MACD is the MACD-Histogram. Developed by Thomas Aspray in 1986, this oscillator is used to gauge momentum. It is a separate program that should be available on your charting package. Traders who use this feature typically view both MACD and the histogram on a stock chart simultaneously.\nThe histogram is a series of bar graphs at the bottom of the stock screen. If the bars move above the zero line, it means the underlying stock (or index) is gaining strength, i.e., momentum. If the bars move below the zero line, the stock or index is losing strength.\nMany beginning traders don’t realize that momentum always changes before price does. That is what makes MACD and the MACD-Histogram so valuable. Both indicators detect when momentum is weakening. It could also be a signal to become bullish if the histogram bars move above the zero line.\nHistogram signals\n\nIf the MACD-Histogram bar changes to a lighter color, it means that momentum is diminishing. It is not a sell signal; it simply means that enthusiasm for that particular stock is waning.\n\n\nAs mentioned earlier, if the histogram bar rises above the zero line, that is a buy signal. An uptrend may be developing. If the histogram bar drops below the zero line, that is a sell signal. A downtrend may be developing.\n\nRed flags\nIf you see the index prices as well as stock prices move higher, but MACD turns lower, that is a red flag. In addition, if you see the MACD-Histogram changing colors and the bars getting shorter, that confirms momentum is weakening (but confirm this against RSI or stochastics).\nIf you have never used MACD or MACD-Histogram, give it a try. Use these measures for any stock that has hit bottom and is on its way higher.
