Tesla","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1105652487","media":"Benzinga","summary":"This week, the duel is between two of the most prominent and often controversial companies in the hi","content":"
This week, the duel is between two of the most prominent and often controversial companies in the history of the automobile industry:Ford Motor Company and Tesla Inc..
\n
The Case For Ford:The Ford Motor Company was incorporated on June 16, 1903. Its namesake,Henry Ford, had previously started two unsuccessful automobile companies and was initially a vice president in this endeavor — he became president afterJohn S. Gray, the original corporate captain, died of a heart attack in 1906.
\n

\n
As a company president, Ford was credited with many innovations, including the modernization of the assembly line and instituting an eight-hour day/five days per week working schedule for his workforce.
\n
Ford generated criticism for his political actions. He opposed U.S. entry into World War I, partnered with Stalin’s Soviet Union and Hitler’s Germany on automobile production in their regimes and financed anti-Semitic publications.
\n
Today, Ford has facilities in 18 countries and a global workforce of more than 186,000 people.
\n
Among its most recent developments, Ford announced a partnership with semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries Inc. that will involve joint research and development to address the need for an increased chips volume to meet the automotive industry’s needs, including semiconductor solutions for ADAS, battery management systems and in-vehicle networking. The companies also plan to explore “expanded semiconductor manufacturing opportunities to support the automotive industry.”
\n
Last week, Ford CEO Jim Farley said the automaker planned to double its electric vehicle production by 2023 to a quantity of 600,000 vehicles a year by the end of 2023, with the goal of becoming the world’s leading EV manufacturer. But also last week, Ford canceled its plans to develop EVs with Rivian Automotive, Inc., a company that Ford has backed since 2019.
\n
In its most recent quarterly earnings report, the third-quarter data published on Oct. 27, Ford saw revenue of $35.6 billion, down from $37.5 billion one year earlier. The company also recorded $1.83 billion in net income, a drop from $2.38 billion in the previous year. The third-quarter basic earnings per share of 46 cents was a drop from 60 cents year-over-year. Ford’s board of directors voted to reinstate a regular quarterly dividend starting in the fourth quarter.
\n
In the company’s earnings call, Farley looked ahead to 2022 and insisted the company was “excited and energized about the opportunity in front of us and clear that we have so much more work to do to deliver on Ford's potential. The word I would leave you with is focus. The competitive environment has never been more interesting and tough, and we intend to live up to our promise to compete like a challenger, focusing on our top priorities to unlock Ford+ growth with customers at the very center of everything we do.”
\n
Ford closed for Wednesday trading at $20.25, a hair below its 52-week high of $20.79 and far from its 52-week low of $8.43.
\n
The Case For Tesla:While it impossible not to talk about Tesla without mentioning CEO Elon Musk, the South African-born entrepreneur was actually a latecomer to the company. Tesla was founded in July 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, with Musk coming on board in February 2004 as chairman via a $6.5-million investment. Musk would become CEO in 2008, with Eberhard and Tarpenning being maneuvered out of the corporate leadership.
\n

\n
Under Musk, Tesla established itself as the power player in the EV sector — its Model 3 became the first EV to sell 1 million units globally last June, and last month it achieved a $1-trillion market capitalization, which made Musk the world’s richest man.
\n
Tesla has a workforce of less than 71,000 and 12 manufacturing facilities spread across the U.S., Canada, Germany and China. Three additional facilities, two in the U.S and one in Germany, are slated to open next year.
\n
Tesla has also weathered its share of controversies recently. Reuters reported Tuesday that employees at Tesla's new factory near Berlin have taken the first steps to set up a works council, a move that reportedly irritated Musk, who notoriously threatened to strip his U.S. workers of their stock options if they tried to unionize.
\n
The German IG Metall trade union also reported the Berlin Tesla plant is offering wages that are 20% below the collectively bargained wages offered at other German automakers.
\n
Last week, news percolated of a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a woman at the company’s factory in Fremont, California. And the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) has sought data from all Tesla vehicles produced since 2014 to related to its Autopilot system, with the company’s self-driving cars having crashed into emergency vehicles at least 11 times.
\n
In its most recent earnings report, the third-quarter data published on Oct. 20, Tesla saw revenues of $13.7 billion, up from $8.7 billion one year earlier. Net income was $1.6 billion for the quarter, up from $331 million in the previous year. The diluted EPS of $1.44 was up year-over-year from 27 cents.
\n
The quarterly report acknowledged the performance could have been better.
\n
“A variety of challenges, including semiconductor shortages, congestion at ports and rolling blackouts, have been impacting our ability to keep factories running at full speed,” the report stated. “We believe our supply chain, engineering and production teams have been dealing with these global challenges with ingenuity, agility and flexibility that is unparalleled in the automotive industry.”
\n
Tesla closed for trading on Wednesday at $1,116, closer to its 52-week high of $1,243.49 and far from its 52-week low of $526.20.
\n
The Verdict:More than a few Benzinga readers may consider this statement to be the stock market equivalent of apostasy, but the winner in this Stock Wars duel is easily Ford and not Tesla. There are four key reasons why Ford is the stronger stock.
\n
First, Ford is admittedly late to the EV game, but it has manufacturing resources that Tesla lacks. Farley’s goal of making Ford the world’s biggest EV company is not farfetched based on its global presence. Tesla is late to the European market and might be putting too much hope on gaining a leadership position in China, where U.S. companies are never allowed to be a dominant player in any sector.
\n
Second, Ford has already produced a superior product. Last week,Consumer Reports judgedFord’s five-door electric crossover Mustang Mach-E as being better than Tesla Model 3 sedan and other electric models in its latest annual reliability score. And while both the Mach-E and Tesla vehicles were subject to recalls earlier this year due to problems with their glass roofs, at least the NHTSA is not demanding seven years of data from Ford.
\n
Third, Ford is investing in its future via its aforementioned partnership with GlobalFoundries and with a partnership involving Walmart and Argo AI on “last mile” autonomous-vehicle delivery service.

In comparison, Musk seems more interested in picking social media fights with his peers in the corporate world than building relationships to boost the company.
\n
Fourth, Ford learned the hard way what happens when a corporate leader runs his mouth off unchecked. It's sticking with its Buy rating and $40 price target, now implying 12% upside.\nJefferies has a Hold and observes that volumes of PC and printers fell year-over-year, but sales sustained growth on a value basis amid a mix shift to the high end (graphics, industrial applications).\nCowen is at Market Perform and noted a strong backlog driving some sustainable sales in PCs. It's expecting component shortage through at least the first half of 2022. Its neutrality comes from the \"perspective that current work-from home demand for PCs may have peaked, with a risk of deceleration in CY21, macro uncertainty, and a shift to return-to-office that may lead to underperformance relative to enterprise-focused peers.\" The firm has a $34 price target.\nBarclays is Underweight, a little more bearish on end market growth. And BofA reiterated its Underperform rating noting some risks to the current-quarter guidance.\n\"We remain cautious on a bounce-back in PC unit sales, given tougher comps linked to WFH-related purchasing seen since the start of the pandemic,\" BofA says. It also expects supplies in Printing to continue to decline and the consumer printer business to face tougher year-over-year comparisons. It's staying Underperform on a view that HP is cyclically over-earning, but raises its price target to $33.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":916,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":875309381,"gmtCreate":1637597882664,"gmtModify":1637597882854,"author":{"id":"3581583457456048","authorId":"3581583457456048","name":"am_newbie","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3c64d4645f1b2cfc8d02bf88edb7de59","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581583457456048","idStr":"3581583457456048"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Keep on rising!","listText":"Keep on rising!","text":"Keep on rising!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/875309381","repostId":"1158210333","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1158210333","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1637592769,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1158210333?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-22 22:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple shares rose nearly 2% in early trading and hit a record high","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1158210333","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Apple shares rose nearly 2% in early trading and hit a record high.","content":"
Apple shares rose nearly 2% in early trading and hit a record high.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; In it, he reinforced the idea that AAPL should be worth only $132, suggesting that shares have 12% of downside risk from here.
\n
Today, the Apple Maven revisits Bernstein’s Toni Sacconaghi’s mildly bearish case.
\n
The not-so-bullish case
\n
Mr. Sacconaghi has been cautious of AAPL since he downgraded the stock to neutral, in February 2018. The timing of his move did not prove to be the best, as Apple shares have climbed a whopping 285% in less than four years against the S&P 500’s 85% gains. However, the analyst has also helped AAPL investors think of the devil’s advocate argument.
\n
In August, I reviewed Bernstein’s thesis in more detail. For the short term, the bank’s research team was concerned that Apple stock had climbed too fast in the first half of the year, ahead of a set of earnings seasons in which Apple would face tough comps.
\n
Also, Toni has mentioned valuations as a key risk. While he believes that AAPL should be valued at a higher multiple than the S&P 500, the analyst questions how much is too much. Bernstein’s target P/E of 25 times is one to two turns lower than where the multiple is today.
\n
Add App Store to the list
\n
Now, the analyst has added one item to the list of worries: the App Store. Sacconaghi pointed out that a recent court loss will likely mean that payments will be allowed to be made outside the App Store platform in the US, starting as early as next month.
\n
Bernstein’s expert has done the math. He estimates that nearly one-third of App Store revenues come from the United States. If the App Store accounts for 6% and 15% of total company sales and op profits, respectively, the payment issue could impact 2% of Apple’s revenues and 5% of op profits per year.
\n
Apple Maven’s take
\n
Regarding Toni’s earlier concerns, I believe that the risks have decreased substantially since AAPL peaked, in early September. Since then, investors have had time to fully embrace the more challenging late 2021-to-early 2022 period of tough comps and supply chain constraints. As I mentioned not long ago, valuations have de-risked to more reasonable levels.
\n
Regarding the App Store, I have slowly shifted from more to less concerned about the financial impact. Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty has argued that App Store policy changes could shave a maximum of 1% or 2% of Apple’s EPS, which is not much at all.
\n
Even Sacconaghi’s estimates of the financial risk only represents the worst-case scenario. In reality, much less than 2% of Apple’s revenues and 5% of op profits will likely end up being cut as a result of the App Store’s payment changes, as many users will continue to choose Apple as their payment platform of choice.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Sell AAPL? In reality, much less than 2% of Apple’s revenues and 5% of op profits will likely end up being cut as a result of the App Store’s payment changes, as many users will continue to choose Apple as their payment platform of choice.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":976,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":844024681,"gmtCreate":1636379218467,"gmtModify":1636379277063,"author":{"id":"3581583457456048","authorId":"3581583457456048","name":"am_newbie","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3c64d4645f1b2cfc8d02bf88edb7de59","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581583457456048","idStr":"3581583457456048"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Come on!!!","listText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Come on!!!","text":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Come on!!!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f1308e5425bb43618711c5d16cabf59","width":"1125","height":"2645"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/844024681","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":946,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":841720739,"gmtCreate":1635944363851,"gmtModify":1635944372739,"author":{"id":"3581583457456048","authorId":"3581583457456048","name":"am_newbie","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3c64d4645f1b2cfc8d02bf88edb7de59","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581583457456048","idStr":"3581583457456048"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Apple(AAPL)$Keep going!","listText":"$Apple(AAPL)$Keep going!","text":"$Apple(AAPL)$Keep going!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e2f39a55ebd4bb9927b2c3eff9658cef","width":"1242","height":"1968"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/841720739","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":728,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":852905438,"gmtCreate":1635230404309,"gmtModify":1635230550110,"author":{"id":"3581583457456048","authorId":"3581583457456048","name":"am_newbie","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3c64d4645f1b2cfc8d02bf88edb7de59","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581583457456048","idStr":"3581583457456048"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$Have been a long while I come in and check the PnL. He pointed out that the economy is bolstered by record-low rates, record-high fiscal stimulus and a synchronized recovery throughout the world spurred by a post-pandemic return to normal.\nGorman believes that this set of conditions will drive inflation, which will prove to be less transitory than many assume. As a result, the Fed will be forced to raise rates sooner than the market currently expects.\nLooking at the market as a whole, Gorman said meme stocks, the SPAC market and the volatility in cryptocurrencies are examples of \"moments of froth\" and \"spurts of exuberance\" in a market that otherwise has many rational reasons for its advance. He said the overall stock market is supported by \"a very strong\" economic recovery.\nCommenting on the$911 million loss prompted by Archegos, Gorman said he was \"very, very disappointed\" in the event, but that it didn't undermine the value of the overall business. However, he did say that the company had reviewed its margin requirements in the aftermath.\nMorgan Stanley should have never been in a position to sustain such a loss, Gorman admitted, but said the firm had taken some lessons from the event.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":832,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":183550417,"gmtCreate":1623336976739,"gmtModify":1634034405397,"author":{"id":"3581583457456048","authorId":"3581583457456048","name":"am_newbie","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3c64d4645f1b2cfc8d02bf88edb7de59","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581583457456048","idStr":"3581583457456048"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BlackBerry(BB)$is full of potential. That puts the movie-theater chain’s market capitalization at roughly $16 billion, more than 15 times what it was in 2018, a record-breaking year at the box office. Shares were up another 34%, to $42.92, in premarket trading Wednesday.
\n
Even if investors missed an inflection point, though, the math doesn’t add up. The reason might be that market cap isn’t the right measure. Maybe it’s enterprise value, which is essentially market cap and debt. AMC’s enterprise value is about $26 billion, compared with $6.2 billion or so at the end of 2018.
\n
AMC added debt during the pandemic as theaters in the country’s biggest cities were dark for months. And the numbers make it easy to understand why: The U.S. box office in 2020 generated about $2.1 billion in ticket sales, down 81% from the 2018 record of $11.9 billion.
\n
So, it seems investors have been vexed by movie theater economics. But it wouldn’t be the first time. The industry essentially went belly up at the turn of the millennium. Regal Cinemas, for instance, declared bankruptcy in 2001.
\n
Back then, the industry had plenty of capacity because of a new theater design—stadium seating that gave a better view of the screen. That shift meant movie theater chains had to renovate or risk losing all their patrons to movie theaters that offered the better view. In the end, too many seats and not enough patrons meant the return on the stadium-seating investments never materialized.
\n
The upshot was consolidation. With fewer operators, the number of screens stabilized. Between 2002 and 2007, Regal Cinemas became a cash-generating machine because the stock was mispriced. The stock returned 21% a year on average. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average both returned less than 9% a year on average over the same period.
\n
In those days, Regal Cinema’s enterprise value about $5 billion, or about 50% of total U.S. box office sales. That’s far short of AMC today. Something new has to be different for AMC to be worth it.
\n
Maybe the movie theater business is going to go through another period of consolidation, which can usher in another golden age of returns. AMC’s Tuesday gains, in fact, were catalyzed by new capital raised so the company could go on the offensive, acquiring defunct chains. Monopolies, after all, can be good for stock returns.
\n
If AMC can increase market share and the U.S. box office sales can return to 2018 levels in a few years, total sales at might be $9 billion—$6 billion from tickets and $3 billion from concessions. Sales in 2018 amounted to $5.5 billion.
\n
Then, with better gross profit margins derived from larger scale, AMC might be able to generate $600 million in free cash flow annually, which puts the stock at about a 4% free cash flow yield. The S&P 500 trades for about a 3% free cash flow yield. The numbers can work—if they’re stretched.
\n
There are problems with this scenario, though. There are lots of ifs and mights—and AMC has never generated cash flow like that in the past. Arriving at $600 million in free cash flow is more about justifying current valuations than predicting what is likely.
\n
Also, with mergers and acquisitions, AMC market shares might rise, but there are still competitors. Regal Cinemas is still out there, owned by Cineworld Holdings (CINE. London). So is Cinemark (CNK). There’s not a true monopoly.
\n
AMC and its peers have to deal with streaming, too. Windows for exclusive theater showings are shrinking. The pandemic has accelerated that. And if AMC gets too large and demanding for movie makers, the talent can always go to streaming faster, hurting box office sales.
\n
There is also the problem of the peer stocks. They aren’t trading like this is a brave new world for theaters. Cineworld stock is up 484% from its 52-week low, but shares are still off 72% from all-time highs. Cinemark shares are up 222% from their 52-week low. They are down 47% from their all-time high.
\n
AMC stock, again, is up almost 1,600% from its 52-week low and is down just 13% from its May all-time high.
\n
Wall Street just doesn’t see the potential either. Nine analysts cover the stock. The average analyst price target is about $5. Before the pandemic, the average analyst price target was $15. But there were fewer shares back then. The old target enterprise value was roughly $7 billion. It’s tough to get from $7 billion to $26 billion predicting better margins.
\n
Analysts do have positive free cash flow modeled, though–$13 million in 2022 and $90 million in 2023. That’s a long way from $600 million.
\n
And that’s just another way of saying that AMC bulls are a long way from making the math work.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
AMC Stock Is Surging Again.
