The facility is the company's most advanced chip factory. GlobalFoundries is planning a second one at the Fab 8 site within the next few years.</p>\n<p>CEO Tom Caulfield, a native New Yorker, also moved the company's headquarters from Silicon Valley to Malta earlier this year, a move that U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer has been asking the company to do for years.</p>\n<p>GlobalFoundries also took over the chipmaking operations of IBM as well, although that deal ended up in a recent legal battle, with IBM accusing GlobalFoundries of falling short on its promises under the agreement.</p>\n<p>The rise of GlobalFoundries from startup to global chip foundry coincides with the consolidation of the chip industry, leaving only a few major players that still own and operate chip factories, or fabs, that can cost up to $10 billion each.</p>\n<p>The other major manufacturers are Intel, Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., or TSMC, all of which are substantially larger than GlobalFoundries.</p>\n<p>However, GlobalFoundries has important Department of Defense contracts.</p>","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Roku: A digital advertising powerhouse</h2>\n<p>When investors consider <b>Roku</b> (NASDAQ:ROKU), they no doubt conjure up images of streaming video dominance, and with good reason. The company surpassed <b>Amazon</b>'s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Fire TV in 2020 as the streaming platform with the most users. More importantly, Roku's viewer base has been growing more quickly, even as Fire TV's growth was decelerating. Roku's active accounts accelerated by 39% year over year, while Amazon's growth slowed to 25%.</p>\n<p>Yet Roku's streaming platform is just a small part of the equation and a means to an end. The company uses its platform to serve up digital advertising, which is by far the largest part of its business.</p>\n<p>Roku's platform segment uses a three-pronged attack to continue to expand its ecosystem. The Roku Channel serves up fan-favorite content and the company keeps all the advertising that appears on its home-grown channel.</p>\n<p>It also developed a state-of-the-art connected TV (CTV) operating system (OS) from the ground up that it licenses to smart TV manufacturers so they don't have to reinvent the wheel. As a result, roughly 38% of all smart TVs sold in the U.S. last year contained the Roku OS, while it had a 31% market share in Canada. This strategy was so successful that Roku is expanding into new international markets, including the U.K., Germany, and Latin America, among others.</p>\n<p>Finally, the company controls 30% of the advertising space for the streaming apps and channels that show ads on its platform, while also getting a cut from streaming services when customers sign up via its platform.</p>\n<p>The platform segment and the resulting digital advertising account for the bulk of Roku's revenue, and business is booming. Last year, platform revenue grew 81% year over year, helping push gross profit up 63%.</p>\n<p>Yet that could be just the beginning. Roku has a total addressable market that's projected to grow to $769 billion by 2024. When viewed through the lens of the company's revenue of $1.78 billion last year, the magnitude of the opportunity comes clearly into focus.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://g.foolcdn.com/image/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fg.foolcdn.com%2Feditorial%2Fimages%2F646122%2Ftwo-young-professional-looking-at-a-laptop-in-a-data-center.jpg&amp;w=700&amp;op=resize\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>2. MongoDB: The changing face of the database</h2>\n<p>When the original database was first designed, most information fit easily into rows and columns. Nowadays, however, data has evolved and consists of entire documents, video and audio files, photos, social media posts, and much more. Those working with legacy databases struggle to make it all work.</p>\n<p>That's where <b>MongoDB</b> (NASDAQ:MDB) comes in. The company hosts a state-of-the-art cloud-based platform that empowers users to pull and store data from a variety of non-traditional sources. This also provides new flexibility to developers, giving them greater leeway than ever before to design the next great app.</p>\n<p>MongoDB provides a free-to-use offering that lets customers get a feel for the ease of use and utility of its product, encouraging them to upgrade to its fully managed database-as-a-service (DBaaS) product, Atlas, which will propel the company to its next phase of growth.</p>\n<p>The company's financial results illustrate its success. Second-quarter revenue grew 44% year over year, but revenue from Atlas grew 83%, and accounted for 56% of MongoDB's total sales. That's impressive performance for a product that didn't exist five years ago. It's important to note that the company has yet to swing to profitability as it continues to invest heavily to ensure future growth.</p>\n<p>MongoDB's customer acquisition continues to propel its financial results. The company's customer base grew and surpassed 29,000, up 44% year over year. Perhaps more importantly, existing customers are spending more with each passing year, as evidenced by MongoDB's net AR expansion rate of 120%. Put another way, existing customers spent 20% more this year than they did the year before. The company now has 1,126 customers that spend $100,000 or more, an increase of 37%.</p>\n<p>Finally, MongoDB has a massive addressable market. CEO Dev Ittycheria cites data from IDC that the company operates in \"one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in all of software,\" with a total addressable market that's expected to top $97 billion by 2023. As a result, roughly 38% of all smart TVs sold in the U.S. last year contained the Roku OS, while it had a 31% market share in Canada. This strategy was so successful that Roku is expanding into new international markets, including the U.K., Germany, and Latin America, among others.\nFinally, the company controls 30% of the advertising space for the streaming apps and channels that show ads on its platform, while also getting a cut from streaming services when customers sign up via its platform.\nThe platform segment and the resulting digital advertising account for the bulk of Roku's revenue, and business is booming. Last year, platform revenue grew 81% year over year, helping push gross profit up 63%.\nYet that could be just the beginning. Roku has a total addressable market that's projected to grow to $769 billion by 2024. The company hosts a state-of-the-art cloud-based platform that empowers users to pull and store data from a variety of non-traditional sources. This also provides new flexibility to developers, giving them greater leeway than ever before to design the next great app.\nMongoDB provides a free-to-use offering that lets customers get a feel for the ease of use and utility of its product, encouraging them to upgrade to its fully managed database-as-a-service (DBaaS) product, Atlas, which will propel the company to its next phase of growth.\nThe company's financial results illustrate its success. Second-quarter revenue grew 44% year over year, but revenue from Atlas grew 83%, and accounted for 56% of MongoDB's total sales. That's impressive performance for a product that didn't exist five years ago. It's important to note that the company has yet to swing to profitability as it continues to invest heavily to ensure future growth.\nMongoDB's customer acquisition continues to propel its financial results. The company's customer base grew and surpassed 29,000, up 44% year over year. Perhaps more importantly, existing customers are spending more with each passing year, as evidenced by MongoDB's net AR expansion rate of 120%. Put another way, existing customers spent 20% more this year than they did the year before. The company now has 1,126 customers that spend $100,000 or more, an increase of 37%.\nFinally, MongoDB has a massive addressable market. CEO Dev Ittycheria cites data from IDC that the company operates in \"one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in all of software,\" with a total addressable market that's expected to top $97 billion by 2023. 28 (Reuters) - Canada’s Millennial Lithium Corp said on Tuesday Chinese battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) has agreed to buy the miner for C$376.8 million ($297.3 million), after outbidding compatriot Ganfeng Lithium .\nCATL earlier this month had made an offer of C$3.85 per share in cash, Argentina-focused Millennial Lithium said, outbidding the C$3.60 per share offer made in July by Ganfeng, one of the world’s biggest producers of lithium chemicals used in electric vehicle (EV) batteries.\nThe outright acquisition of a lithium miner by CATL follows its purchase of stakes in another Argentina-focused lithium company, Neo Lithium Corp, as well as in Greenland-focused North American Nickel and Australia’s Pilbara Minerals as it looks to shore up supply of key battery ingredients.\nIn April, CATL said its subsidiary agreed to take a stake in China Molybdenum Co’s Kisanfu mine, a major source of battery metal cobalt, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for $137.5 million.\nMillennial Lithium said on Tuesday that CATL has also reimbursed it for the termination fee of $10 million paid to Ganfeng, which had until Monday to match the higher bid but decided against it.\nCATL’s late charge puts the brakes on a prolific acquisition spree by Ganfeng so far in 2021, which has seen it agree to buy the shares it does not already own in Mexico-focused Bacanora Lithium for $264.5 million, as well as stakes in a lithium mine in Mali and a salt lake in China for $130 million and 1.47 billion yuan, respectively.\nThe deal also comes as prices for As the world returns to normalcy, the company’s growth has naturally slowed. Investors have cooled on the story. ZM stock is down about 20% year-to-date (YTD). Plus, adding salt to the wound, the company ishaving trouble closing its recentlyproposed acquisitionof<b>Five9</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>FIVN</u></b>).</p>\n<p>I love a stock with some good controversy. Zoom fits that bill. The shares are volatile, reflecting investor uncertainty around whether it has enough gas in the tank for a second growth wave.But add a celebrity investor to the mix and things get<i>even more intriguing</i>. Enter Cathie Wood, who’s been scooping up Zoom shares on the dip.</p>\n<p>Is it over for ZM stock? Or is it just the beginning? Here’s a place to start.</p>\n<p><b>ZM Stock: What a Difference a Year Makes</b></p>\n<p>We all know how well Zoom did last year. But investors have very short memories. So, when it comes to analyzing ZM stock, let’s focus our conversation on the present (and future potential).</p>\n<p>Business is still good at Zoom, but it’s slowing relative to last year. Fiscal second-quarter earnings were a mixed bag. The good news is the company beat expectations. The bad news? Year-over-year (YOY) comparisons are down. For example, revenueincreased 54%YOY — an impressive number — butdown from 191%in Q1. Now for Q3, growth is expected to taper further to 31%. No doubt, these are still impressive growth numbers. But they’re not a raise inguidance for the second half of the fiscal year.</p>\n<p>Wall Street doesn’t like slowing growth. That’s why negative comparisons almost always translate into declines in stock prices.</p>\n<p>There’s another thing Wall Street doesn’t like: competition. Zoom enjoyed wild success last year. But going forward, the company isn’t the only video-conference software maker in town. There are plenty of other options:<b>Microsoft</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>MSFT</u></b>) has Skype and Teams,<b>Cisco</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>CSCO</u></b>) offers Webex,<b>Adobe</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>ADBE</u></b>) has Connect and<b>LogMeIn</b>has GoToMeeting, among others. This list of giant competitors also includes<b>Facebook</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>FB</u></b>), which recently introduced a feature called Messenger Rooms.</p>\n<p>For these much larger tech companies, online meetings are just one of many software offerings. This leaves ZM stock vulnerable if one of these companies finds a competitive advantage.</p>\n<p><b>Looking for Growth</b></p>\n<p>With growth slowing and the company facing an increasingly crowded enterprise communications market,Zoom is naturally looking for its next leg of growth. In July, the company announced its&nbsp;intent to acquirecloud contact-center software providerFive9for $14.7 billion in stock. The deal terms were that Zoom would pay $200.28 for each share of Five9.</p>\n<p>However, the market has since soured on the deal, for two reasons. First: valuation. Sure, the deal terms sounded good to shareholders when it was initially announced (ZM stock was trading for over $350 at the time). But on the heels of a mixed quarter, the stock started sliding — and quickly. Investors then had more reason to question the lofty proposed purchase price.</p>\n<p>Last week, things came to a head. With Zoom shares down almost 20% from the deal announcement, proxy-analysis firm Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) sounded the alarm bells. The firmadvised Five9 shareholders toreject the deal. ISS said that Five9 investors would be exposed to a more-volatile stock with a less-than-rosy outlook as economies reopen following the pandemic.</p>\n<p>Secondly, though, there’s the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Both agencies are looking into whether Zoom’s ties to China could make the deal a national-security risk. Still, Zoomsaid it expects to receive regulatory approvals by the first half of 2022. This is the very first reason why JPMorgan&nbsp;believes&nbsp;that AMZN will get a green light to climb again: “[the stock is heading] closer to the last quarter of difficult COVID-19 comps in the first quarter of 2022\", which should help to reset sentiment.</p>\n<p>Once 2020 results are left in the rearview mirror, the e-commerce company will face more realistic, non-pandemic-inflated projections. As mentioned by Mr. Anmuth himself, \"further downward revisions to 2022 profit estimates would help lower the bar and potentially create more of a clearing event”.</p>\n<p><b>Holiday upside</b></p>\n<p>Another reason why Mr. Anmuth believes Amazon stock will head higher is the beginning of the holiday season. Since the market has been so cautious towards AMZN lately, the stock has been trading at lower multiples than would otherwise be considered reasonable. The holidays, on the other hand, could be the bullish catalyst that investors need to own the stock again.</p>\n<p>Lastly, there is the potential for an increase in Prime subscription price in 2022. Considering an estimated 150 million US Prime members in 2021, a $20 dollar hike in annual fee would lead to an extra $3 billion heading towards Amazon’s coffers.</p>\n<p>At first glance, the figure may not seem like much, given Amazon’s revenues of $380 billion in 2020. However, keep in mind that nearly all the price increase would flow cleanly into Amazon’s operating income. On a 2020 basis, this would represent growth of nearly 15% in pre-tax profits.</p>\n<p><b>What do other experts say?</b></p>\n<p>Other reports published recently also support the bullish thesis. Mark Mahaney from Evercore ISI&nbsp;talked&nbsp;to 15 industry experts, including former Amazon employees, during the research firm’s Amazon Day Symposium. The analyst liked what he saw and issued a hefty $4,700 target price.</p>\n<p>Wolfe Research’s Deepak Mathivanan, on the other hand,lowered&nbsp;his price target on AMZN modestly to $3,850 from $3,900, despite maintaining an outperform rating. Amazon stock underperformed an already weak S&P 500 by three percentage points over the period, leaving some to question: is AMZN still a good investment?\nAccording to experts at JPMorgan (JPM), the answer is yes. Today, the Amazon Maven presents the main reasons why five-star rated analyst Doug Anmuth believes that Amazon stock is about to surge, producing an estimated 29% in gains through 2022.\nFigure 1: J.P. This is the very first reason why JPMorgan believes that AMZN will get a green light to climb again: “[the stock is heading] closer to the last quarter of difficult COVID-19 comps in the first quarter of 2022\", which should help to reset sentiment.\nOnce 2020 results are left in the rearview mirror, the e-commerce company will face more realistic, non-pandemic-inflated projections. As mentioned by Mr. Anmuth himself, \"further downward revisions to 2022 profit estimates would help lower the bar and potentially create more of a clearing event”.\nHoliday upside\nAnother reason why Mr. Anmuth believes Amazon stock will head higher is the beginning of the holiday season. Since the market has been so cautious towards AMZN lately, the stock has been trading at lower multiples than would otherwise be considered reasonable. The holidays, on the other hand, could be the bullish catalyst that investors need to own the stock again.\nLastly, there is the potential for an increase in Prime subscription price in 2022. Considering an estimated 150 million US Prime members in 2021, a $20 dollar hike in annual fee would lead to an extra $3 billion heading towards Amazon’s coffers.\nAt first glance, the figure may not seem like much, given Amazon’s revenues of $380 billion in 2020. However, keep in mind that nearly all the price increase would flow cleanly into Amazon’s operating income. On a 2020 basis, this would represent growth of nearly 15% in pre-tax profits.\nWhat do other experts say?\nOther reports published recently also support the bullish thesis. Mark Mahaney from Evercore ISI talked to 15 industry experts, including former Amazon employees, during the research firm’s Amazon Day Symposium. Fewer users mean advertisers pay less to Pinterest.</p>\n<p>The surprising turnaround in the trend makes investors unsure if the loss in Pinterest users was a <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>-quarter event or if it will continue downward. As is usual with any business, uncertainty adds risk; and all else being equal, investors want less risk.</p>\n<h2>Not as damaging as it looks</h2>\n<p>But Pinterest's loss of monthly active users in the quarter is not as bad as it looks on the surface. After spending so much time cooped up at home, it's understandable that folks are going out more often as economies reopen. As the world returns to normalcy, the company’s growth has naturally slowed. Investors have cooled on the story. ZM stock is down about 20% year-to-date (YTD). Plus, adding salt to the wound, the company ishaving trouble closing its recentlyproposed acquisitionof<b>Five9</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>FIVN</u></b>).</p>\n<p>I love a stock with some good controversy. Zoom fits that bill. The shares are volatile, reflecting investor uncertainty around whether it has enough gas in the tank for a second growth wave.But add a celebrity investor to the mix and things get<i>even more intriguing</i>. Enter Cathie Wood, who’s been scooping up Zoom shares on the dip.</p>\n<p>Is it over for ZM stock? Or is it just the beginning? Here’s a place to start.</p>\n<p><b>ZM Stock: What a Difference a Year Makes</b></p>\n<p>We all know how well Zoom did last year. But investors have very short memories. So, when it comes to analyzing ZM stock, let’s focus our conversation on the present (and future potential).</p>\n<p>Business is still good at Zoom, but it’s slowing relative to last year. Fiscal second-quarter earnings were a mixed bag. The good news is the company beat expectations. The bad news? Year-over-year (YOY) comparisons are down. For example, revenueincreased 54%YOY — an impressive number — butdown from 191%in Q1. Now for Q3, growth is expected to taper further to 31%. No doubt, these are still impressive growth numbers. But they’re not a raise inguidance for the second half of the fiscal year.</p>\n<p>Wall Street doesn’t like slowing growth. That’s why negative comparisons almost always translate into declines in stock prices.</p>\n<p>There’s another thing Wall Street doesn’t like: competition. Zoom enjoyed wild success last year. But going forward, the company isn’t the only video-conference software maker in town. There are plenty of other options:<b>Microsoft</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>MSFT</u></b>) has Skype and Teams,<b>Cisco</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>CSCO</u></b>) offers Webex,<b>Adobe</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>ADBE</u></b>) has Connect and<b>LogMeIn</b>has GoToMeeting, among others. This list of giant competitors also includes<b>Facebook</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>FB</u></b>), which recently introduced a feature called Messenger Rooms.</p>\n<p>For these much larger tech companies, online meetings are just one of many software offerings. This leaves ZM stock vulnerable if one of these companies finds a competitive advantage.</p>\n<p><b>Looking for Growth</b></p>\n<p>With growth slowing and the company facing an increasingly crowded enterprise communications market,Zoom is naturally looking for its next leg of growth. The shares are volatile, reflecting investor uncertainty around whether it has enough gas in the tank for a second growth wave.But add a celebrity investor to the mix and things geteven more intriguing. Enter Cathie Wood, who’s been scooping up Zoom shares on the dip.\nIs it over for ZM stock? Or is it just the beginning? Here’s a place to start.\nZM Stock: What a Difference a Year Makes\nWe all know how well Zoom did last year. But investors have very short memories. So, when it comes to analyzing ZM stock, let’s focus our conversation on the present (and future potential).\nBusiness is still good at Zoom, but it’s slowing relative to last year. Fiscal second-quarter earnings were a mixed bag. The good news is the company beat expectations. The bad news? Year-over-year (YOY) comparisons are down. For example, revenueincreased 54%YOY — an impressive number — butdown from 191%in Q1. Now for Q3, growth is expected to taper further to 31%. No doubt, these are still impressive growth numbers. Taking into account the 20% year-to-date gain for Berkshire's Class A shares (BRK.A), shareholders have seen Buffett generate aggregate returns of almost 3,400,000% in 56 years.</p>\n<p>Although Berkshire Hathaway has a relatively large portfolio filled with four dozen different securities, Buffett has never been a big fan of diversification. Image source: The Motley Fool.</p>\n<h3>Apple: $101,764,676,001 in unrealized gains</h3>\n<p>Easily the best investment of Buffett's tenured career is <b>Apple</b> (NASDAQ:AAPL). Even after modestly paring down his company's stake in the tech kingpin, Berkshire Hathaway still owns 907,559,761 shares at a cost basis of $34.26 a share. With Apple closing last week at $146.39 a share, the Oracle of Omaha and his team are sitting on close to a $102 billion unrealized gain.</p>\n<p>Investors certainly shouldn't look for this stake to be reduced any further anytime soon. That's because Buffett views Apple as Berkshire Hathaway's \"third business.\" It's a globally recognized brand with an exceptionally loyal following, as evidenced by the mammoth lines outside of its stores anytime a new product hits the shelves. And, as you're probably aware, the iPhone is the dominant smartphone by market share in the U.S.</p>\n<p>In addition to Apple being a product innovation juggernaut, CEO Tim Cook is overseeing a steady transition toward services. By emphasizing various subscription-based platforms, Apple can reduce some of the revenue lumpiness associated with tech replacement cycles and likely boost its operating margins.</p>\n<p>A final reason Buffett isn't bailing on Apple is the company's generous shareholder return program. Though some of you might be scratching your head given that Apple's dividend yield is \"only\" 0.6%, the $0.88 base annual payout is closer to 2.6% of Berkshire Hathaway's cost basis. Tack on Apple's aggressive share repurchase program and you have a very shareholder-friendly company.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/44a30c4dfd6886a29e22d3c6558c3e56\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Getty Images.</p>\n<h3>Bank of America: $24,530,235,143 in unrealized gains</h3>\n<p>There's no industry on the planet Buffett loves more than bank stocks -- and there's no bank stock Buffett favors more than <b>Bank of America</b> (NYSE:BAC). Berkshire Hathaway owns over 1.03 billion shares of BofA with a cost basis of $14.17 a share. This works out to an unrealized gain of just over $24.5 billion, based on where BofA shares closed this past Friday, July 16.</p>\n<p>Buffett has always been a big fan of playing the economic numbers game, which is exactly what he's doing with Bank of America. Since the U.S. economy spends a disproportionate amount of time expanding, relative to contracting, bank stocks like BofA should benefit from stronger loan origination and higher net interest income. The Oracle of Omaha is fully aware that recessions are a natural part of the economic cycle, but he fully understands that the long term strongly favors optimists.</p>\n<p>More specific to the business, BofA stands to benefit from eventual interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Bank of America is the most interest-sensitive of all the big banks, with the company noting in the June-ended quarter that a 100 basis point parallel shift in the interest rate yield curve would net it an extra $8 billion in net interest income over the next 12 months.</p>\n<p>With BofA pushing digitization initiatives and bolstering its dividend program, it's far likelier that Buffett ups his stake in the company than sells a single share.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ed3e6a16841306014bf0cfc3b1697b23\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: American <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/EXPR\">Express</a>.</p>\n<h2>American Express: $24,488,160,264 in unrealized gains</h2>\n<p>Whereas the gains racked up in Apple and BofA have come within the past couple of years, the nearly $24.5 billion in unrealized gains in credit services behemoth <b>American Express</b> (NYSE:AXP) have been built up over the past 28 years. With a cost basis of right around $8.49 a share, Buffett's patience has paid off in a big way with AmEx.</p>\n<p>Similar to Bank of America, American Express is a cyclical company that benefits from the aforementioned numbers game. If the U.S. and global economy are expanding, consumers and businesses are more likely to spend more, thereby helping boost payment processing revenue and profits. Keep in mind, though, AmEx is a double dipper. In addition to processing payments, it's also a credit services provider. This means it can generate growing amounts of fee revenue and interest income during long-winded periods of expansion.</p>\n<p>Another facet to AmEx's success is the company's ability to bring in affluent clientele. The well-to-do are far less inclined to alter their spending habits when minor economic disruptions rear their heads. As a result, AmEx isn't as likely to be hurt by credit delinquencies as some of its lending peers.</p>\n<p>With Berkshire Hathaway an American Express shareholder since 1993, I don't foresee Buffett or his team selling shares anytime soon.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/299023e9f7694c143fc3162fbb154afa\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"467\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Coca-Cola.</p>\n<h3>Coca-Cola: $21,262,000,000 in unrealized gains</h3>\n<p>Speaking of tenured holdings, no stock has been a fixture in Buffett's portfolio for longer than beverage giant <b>Coca-Cola</b> (NYSE:KO). With a cost basis of a fraction under $3.25 a share, Buffett and his team have piled up almost $21.3 billion in unrealized gains by owning Coca-Cola since 1988.</p>\n<p>Like Apple, we're talking about a company with insanely strong branding and brand recognition. Coke products are sold in all but two countries worldwide (Cuba and North Korea), and it has more than 20 brands in its product portfolio generating at least $1 billion in annual sales. Coca-Cola enjoys the best of both worlds, with 20% of the developed market cold beverage share (i.e., highly predictable cash flow) and 10% of emerging market cold beverage share, which represents a higher-growth opportunity over the long run.</p>\n<p>Beyond geographic diversity, marketing is a big reason for Coca-Cola's success. The company has not been shy about turning to social media and well-known ambassadors to represent its brand, and it has clear holiday tie-ins that go back decades.</p>\n<p>Considering that Berkshire Hathaway is netting almost a 52% annual dividend yield based on its original cost basis for Coca-Cola, there's absolutely no incentive to sell this position.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0405d7e87cf0321a7d9113d036c164a4\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Getty Images.</p>\n<h3>Moody's: $9,076,258,024 in unrealized gains</h3>\n<p>While Apple singlehandedly takes the crown for generating the highest unrealized return in nominal dollars for the Oracle of Omaha, credit ratings agency <b>Moody's</b> (NYSE:MCO) might well be Warren Buffett's greatest investment on a percentage basis of all time. Berkshire's cost basis is $10.05 a share following Moody's spinoff from Dun &amp; Bradstreet in 2000. Moody's closed this past week at almost $378 a share -- good enough for a 3,661% return and nearly $9.1 billion unrealized gain.</p>\n<p>One thing keeping Moody's busy is historically low lending rates. With the Federal Reserve standing pat for as long as possible on interest rates, businesses haven't been shy about issuing debt to hire, acquire, innovate, or even buy back stock, as in Apple's case. With so much corporate debt issued, Moody's has been active evaluating the debt landscape.</p>\n<p>Equally exciting has been the generally heightened levels of market volatility and economic uncertainty since the beginning of 2020. Though Moody's is best known for its credit ratings operations, its fastest-growing segment tends to be analytics. As long as deep levels of uncertainty exist, Moody's Analytics has double-digit annual growth potential.</p>\n<p>As with Coke, Buffett's patience has resulted in an insanely high yield on cost with Moody's. Since taking the helm of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965, the Oracle of Omaha has led his stock to an average annual return of 20%. Taking into account the 20% year-to-date gain for Berkshire's Class A shares (BRK.A), shareholders have seen Buffett generate aggregate returns of almost 3,400,000% in 56 years.\nAlthough Berkshire Hathaway has a relatively large portfolio filled with four dozen different securities, Buffett has never been a big fan of diversification. Even after modestly paring down his company's stake in the tech kingpin, Berkshire Hathaway still owns 907,559,761 shares at a cost basis of $34.26 a share. With Apple closing last week at $146.39 a share, the Oracle of Omaha and his team are sitting on close to a $102 billion unrealized gain.\nInvestors certainly shouldn't look for this stake to be reduced any further anytime soon. That's because Buffett views Apple as Berkshire Hathaway's \"third business.\" It's a globally recognized brand with an exceptionally loyal following, as evidenced by the mammoth lines outside of its stores anytime a new product hits the shelves. And, as you're probably aware, the iPhone is the dominant smartphone by market share in the U.S.\nIn addition to Apple being a product innovation juggernaut, CEO Tim Cook is overseeing a steady transition toward services. By emphasizing various subscription-based platforms, Apple can reduce some of the revenue lumpiness associated with tech replacement cycles and likely boost its operating margins.\nA final reason Buffett isn't bailing on Apple is the company's generous shareholder return program. Though some of you might be scratching your head given that Apple's dividend yield is \"only\" 0.6%, the $0.88 base annual payout is closer to 2.6% of Berkshire Hathaway's cost basis. Tack on Apple's aggressive share repurchase program and you have a very shareholder-friendly company.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nBank of America: $24,530,235,143 in unrealized gains\nThere's no industry on the planet Buffett loves more than bank stocks -- and there's no bank stock Buffett favors more than Bank of America (NYSE:BAC). Berkshire Hathaway owns over 1.03 billion shares of BofA with a cost basis of $14.17 a share. This works out to an unrealized gain of just over $24.5 billion, based on where BofA shares closed this past Friday, July 16.\nBuffett has always been a big fan of playing the economic numbers game, which is exactly what he's doing with Bank of America. Since the U.S. economy spends a disproportionate amount of time expanding, relative to contracting, bank stocks like BofA should benefit from stronger loan origination and higher net interest income. The Oracle of Omaha is fully aware that recessions are a natural part of the economic cycle, but he fully understands that the long term strongly favors optimists.\nMore specific to the business, BofA stands to benefit from eventual interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Bank of America is the most interest-sensitive of all the big banks, with the company noting in the June-ended quarter that a 100 basis point parallel shift in the interest rate yield curve would net it an extra $8 billion in net interest income over the next 12 months.\nWith BofA pushing digitization initiatives and bolstering its dividend program, it's far likelier that Buffett ups his stake in the company than sells a single share.\n\nImage source: American Express.\nAmerican Express: $24,488,160,264 in unrealized gains\nWhereas the gains racked up in Apple and BofA have come within the past couple of years, the nearly $24.5 billion in unrealized gains in credit services behemoth American Express (NYSE:AXP) have been built up over the past 28 years. With a cost basis of right around $8.49 a share, Buffett's patience has paid off in a big way with AmEx.\nSimilar to Bank of America, American Express is a cyclical company that benefits from the aforementioned numbers game. If the U.S. and global economy are expanding, consumers and businesses are more likely to spend more, thereby helping boost payment processing revenue and profits. Keep in mind, though, AmEx is a double dipper. In addition to processing payments, it's also a credit services provider. This means it can generate growing amounts of fee revenue and interest income during long-winded periods of expansion.\nAnother facet to AmEx's success is the company's ability to bring in affluent clientele. The well-to-do are far less inclined to alter their spending habits when minor economic disruptions rear their heads. As a result, AmEx isn't as likely to be hurt by credit delinquencies as some of its lending peers.\nWith Berkshire Hathaway an American Express shareholder since 1993, I don't foresee Buffett or his team selling shares anytime soon.\n\nImage source: Coca-Cola.\nCoca-Cola: $21,262,000,000 in unrealized gains\nSpeaking of tenured holdings, no stock has been a fixture in Buffett's portfolio for longer than beverage giant Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO). With a cost basis of a fraction under $3.25 a share, Buffett and his team have piled up almost $21.3 billion in unrealized gains by owning Coca-Cola since 1988.\nLike Apple, we're talking about a company with insanely strong branding and brand recognition. Coke products are sold in all but two countries worldwide (Cuba and North Korea), and it has more than 20 brands in its product portfolio generating at least $1 billion in annual sales. Coca-Cola enjoys the best of both worlds, with 20% of the developed market cold beverage share (i.e., highly predictable cash flow) and 10% of emerging market cold beverage share, which represents a higher-growth opportunity over the long run.\nBeyond geographic diversity, marketing is a big reason for Coca-Cola's success. The company has not been shy about turning to social media and well-known ambassadors to represent its brand, and it has clear holiday tie-ins that go back decades.\nConsidering that Berkshire Hathaway is netting almost a 52% annual dividend yield based on its original cost basis for Coca-Cola, there's absolutely no incentive to sell this position.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\nMoody's: $9,076,258,024 in unrealized gains\nWhile Apple singlehandedly takes the crown for generating the highest unrealized return in nominal dollars for the Oracle of Omaha, credit ratings agency Moody's (NYSE:MCO) might well be Warren Buffett's greatest investment on a percentage basis of all time. Berkshire's cost basis is $10.05 a share following Moody's spinoff from Dun & Bradstreet in 2000. Moody's closed this past week at almost $378 a share -- good enough for a 3,661% return and nearly $9.1 billion unrealized gain.\nOne thing keeping Moody's busy is historically low lending rates. With the Federal Reserve standing pat for as long as possible on interest rates, businesses haven't been shy about issuing debt to hire, acquire, innovate, or even buy back stock, as in Apple's case. With so much corporate debt issued, Moody's has been active evaluating the debt landscape.\nEqually exciting has been the generally heightened levels of market volatility and economic uncertainty since the beginning of 2020. Though Moody's is best known for its credit ratings operations, its fastest-growing segment tends to be analytics. As long as deep levels of uncertainty exist, Moody's Analytics has double-digit annual growth potential.\nAs with Coke, Buffett's patience has resulted in an insanely high yield on cost with Moody's. of a lithium miner by CATL follows its purchase of stakes in another Argentina-focused lithium company, Neo Lithium Corp, as well as in Greenland-focused North American Nickel and Australia’s Pilbara Minerals as it looks to shore up supply of key battery ingredients.</p>\n<p>In April, CATL said its subsidiary agreed to take a stake in China Molybdenum Co’s Kisanfu mine, a major source of battery metal cobalt, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for $137.5 million.</p>\n<p>Millennial Lithium said on Tuesday that CATL has also reimbursed it for the termination fee of $10 million paid to Ganfeng, which had until Monday to match the higher bid but decided against it.</p>\n<p>CATL’s late charge puts the brakes on a prolific acquisition spree by Ganfeng so far in 2021, which has seen it agree to buy the shares it does not already own in Mexico-focused Bacanora Lithium for $264.5 million, as well as stakes in a lithium mine in Mali and a salt lake in China for $130 million and 1.47 electric vehicle (EV) batteries.</p>\n<p>The outright acquisition of a lithium miner by CATL follows its purchase of stakes in another Argentina-focused lithium company, Neo Lithium Corp, as well as in Greenland-focused North American Nickel and Australia’s Pilbara Minerals as it looks to shore up supply of key battery ingredients.</p>\n<p>In April, CATL said its subsidiary agreed to take a stake
