Here's a preview.","content":"
Chinese electric-vehicle maker Nio (NYSE:NIO) will report its second-quarter earnings results after the U.S. markets close on Wednesday, Aug. 11. What should we expect?
\n
What Wall Street expects
\n
Wall Street analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect Nio to report a loss of $0.11 per American depositary share, on average, on revenue of $1.28 billion.
\n
That would be a significant improvement from a year ago. In what was a better-than-expected result at the time, Nio lost $0.16 per share on revenue of $526.4 million in the second quarter of 2020.
\n
One key analyst thinks Nio could do a bit better. Edison Yu of Deutsche Bank, who has covered Nio closely, said in a note ahead of earnings that he expects Nio's results to come in a bit ahead of Wall Street's consensus. Specifically, Yu and his team expect Nio to report a loss of about 0.44 Chinese yuan per share (about $0.07) on revenue of 8.57 billion yuan ($1.32 billion) for the second quarter.
\n
Yu also expects Nio to share details about its plans for a lower-cost sub-brand during the earnings call. Nio last month hired a former WeWork executive, Ai Tiecheng, who is expected to take charge of that effort.
\n
Nio's second-quarter deliveries came in near the high end of its guidance, despite the ongoing effects of a global chip shortage. What should we expect?\nWhat Wall Street expects\nWall Street analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect Nio to report a loss of $0.11 per American depositary share, on average, on revenue of $1.28 billion. \nThat would be a significant improvement from a year ago. In what was a better-than-expected result at the time, Nio lost $0.16 per share on revenue of $526.4 million in the second quarter of 2020.\nOne key analyst thinks Nio could do a bit better. Edison Yu of Deutsche Bank, who has covered Nio closely, said in a note ahead of earnings that he expects Nio's results to come in a bit ahead of Wall Street's consensus. Specifically, Yu and his team expect Nio to report a loss of about 0.44 Chinese yuan per share (about $0.07) on revenue of 8.57 billion yuan ($1.32 billion) for the second quarter.\nYu also expects Nio to share details about its plans for a lower-cost sub-brand during the earnings call. Nio last month hired a former WeWork executive, Ai Tiecheng, who is expected to take charge of that effort.\nNio's second-quarter deliveries came in near the high end of its guidance, despite the ongoing effects of a global chip shortage. Image source: Nio.\nHighlights of Nio's second quarter\n\nNio delivered 21,896 vehicles in the second quarter, a 112% increase from the year-ago period and near the high end of its guidance range. \nThe sales gain came amid a global shortage of semiconductors that has constrained the manufacturing output of many automakers, including Nio.\nNio's monthly deliveries hit an all-time high in June, when it delivered just over 8,000 vehicles for the first time. \nIn May, Nio announced that it has extended its contract with its current manufacturing partner for another three years, and that the partner, state-owned automaker Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), has agreed to double its factory's capacity to roughly 20,000 Nios per month.\n\nNote that while the chip shortage has held Nio's production down to some extent, JAC's factory has the capacity to build 10,000 Nios per month now, following a series of upgrades that were completed earlier this year.\nWhat was Nio's guidance for the second quarter?\nBack in May, Nio said that auto investors should expect the following for the second quarter, taking the effects of the chip shortage into account:\n\nDeliveries of between 21,000 and 22,000 vehicles, roughly double its Q2 2020 total.\nTotal revenue between 8.15 billion Chinese yuan ($1.24 billion) and 8.5 billion yuan ($1.3 billion), up from 3.72 billion yuan in Q2 2020.\n\nWhat should we expect when Nio reports earnings?\nOn the one hand, Nio has struggled a bit with supply line issues in recent months, not only from the chip shortage but also from a shortage of shock absorbers that hurt its output over the last couple of months. (Not only was Nio's July deliveries total down from June, it was beaten -- for the first time -- by both of its local electric-vehicle rivals, Xpeng (NYSE:XPEV) and Li Auto (NASDAQ:LI)). \nOn the other hand, CEO William Bin Li and his team have executed quite well over the past year, and that inspires some confidence -- as did the company's success in hitting the higher end of its guidance range for deliveries. \nI'm inclined to think that Nio probably did a good job of keeping costs under control, and that its loss will be somewhat narrower than Wall Street's consensus expectation -- perhaps roughly in line with Edison Yu's upbeat forecast. \nBut that said, I also think that investors will be watching Nio's guidance for the rest of 2021 closely, and that guidance may drive the stock price more than the earnings results themselves. They typically occur without warning, and the often violent plunge in stock prices they bring about can be harrowing to even the most experienced investors.
\n
These shocking declines occur relatively often (a market correction of 10% or more happens every 1.84 years, on average), and yet they can give you a chance to buy outstanding businesses at steeply discounted prices you might not otherwise find. In this way, a market crash can provide you with an opportunity to build tremendous wealth -- if you know which stocks to buy.
\n
To help you in this regard, here are three excellent companies to put on your stock market crash shopping list.
\n
1. CrowdStrike
\n
The coronavirus pandemic accelerated the shift to the cloud for many companies. As more companies migrate their operations online, the need for effective cybersecurity solutions is becoming that much more vital. Fortunately, CrowdStrike (NASDAQ:CRWD) is helping to meet this growing need for cloud security -- and business is booming.
\n
CrowdStrike uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect threats and prevent cyber breaches. It excels at providing protection at the device level -- think laptops, mobile phones, and sensors -- which has positioned it to profit from an increase in remote work and the growth of the Internet of Things. CrowdStrike's revenue soared 70% year over year to $302.8 million in its fiscal 2022 first quarter. Its free cash flow, meanwhile, climbed 35% to $117.3 million.
\n
Better still, management sees a path from its current $1 billion in annual recurring revenue to $3 billion by fiscal 2025, fueled by strong customer growth. If CrowdStrike can hit its expansion targets -- and all signs suggest it will -- investors should be well rewarded. And if you can pick up shares at bargain prices during a market crash, your odds of earning sizable returns will be even greater.
\n
2. NVIDIA
\n
The shift to the cloud is also helping to turbocharge NVIDIA's (NASDAQ:NVDA) growth. The semiconductor giant is enjoying surging demand for its chips in a wide swath of industries, as more companies integrate AI and other cutting-edge technology into their daily operations.
\n
NVIDIA's revenue rocketed 84% to $5.7 billion in its fiscal 2022 first quarter, driven by strong growth in its gaming and data center businesses. Its adjusted net income, in turn, jumped 107% to $2.3 billion.
\n
Yet despite its torrid growth in recent years, NVIDIA has a long runway for further expansion still ahead. With intriguing opportunities in cloud computing infrastructure, telecommunications, and autonomous vehicles, management pegs the chipmaker's total addressable market at a staggering $250 billion.
\n
NVIDIA's stock currently trades for a rather steep 50 times Wall Street's earnings estimates for fiscal 2022. But should a market crash give you a chance to scoop up shares of this tech titan at a discount, consider buying some. A few years from now, you'll likely be glad you did.
\n
3. Shopify
\n
COVID-19 has also accelerated the movement of retail sales to the internet. Shopify (NYSE:SHOP) is helping to fuel this megatrend, by giving small businesses the tools they need to build and grow their online stores.
\n
More than 1.7 million merchants use Shopify's software to power their e-commerce operations. Payment processing, fulfillment, shipping, and business financing are just some of the services Shopify provides. Demand for these services is soaring, much to Shopify's benefit.
\n
The total dollar amount of sales merchants generated on the e-commerce platform -- a metric known as gross merchandise volume, or GMV -- rose 114% year over year to $37.3 billion in the first quarter. Shopify's revenue, in turn, surged 110% to $988.6 million, while its adjusted net income increased more than elevenfold to $254.1 million.
\n
Shopify is an outstanding business that's growing at a torrid rate. But there's one problem: Its stock price already reflects this. Shopify currently trades for about 300 times analysts' earnings estimates for 2022, which is not cheap. But if a stock market crash gives you an opportunity to buy shares of this e-commerce leader at a more attractive price, consider jumping on it. That's because the Oracle of Omaha's track record is virtually unsurpassed. Since taking the reins of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B) in the mid-1960s, Buffett's company has averaged an annual return of 20%. This works out to an aggregate gain of greater than 2,800,000% for its Class A shares.
\n
Although Buffett isn't perfect, he and his investing team have a knack for identifying attractively valued businesses that have clear competitive advantages. As we prepare to move into the second half of 2021, the following five Buffett stocks stand out as those that should be bought hand over fist.
\n
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett. Image source: The Motley Fool.
\n
Amazon
\n
Even though Buffett's investing lieutenants, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, are the architects behind Berkshire Hathaway's stake in Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), it's arguably the Buffett stock that should be bought most aggressively ahead of the second half of the year.
\n
As most folks probably know, Amazon is an e-commerce juggernaut. Based on an April report from eMarketer, the company effectively controls $0.40 of every $1 spent online in the United States. It's also pivoted its online retail popularity into signing up more than 200 million people to its Prime program worldwide. The fees Amazon collects from Prime help it to undercut its competition on price. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Prime members tend to spend many multiples more than non-Prime shoppers during the course of the year.
\n
But it's the company's cloud infrastructure service, Amazon Web Services (AWS), that has truly budded into a star. Since the operating margins associated with cloud infrastructure are considerably higher than what Amazon nets from retail and advertising, AWS' growth is leading to a surge in operating cash flow. If investors were to continue to pay the midpoint of Amazon's operating cash flow multiple over the past decade, it could hit $10,000 a share by 2025.
\n
\n
Bristol Myers Squibb
\n
Pharmaceutical stocks are money machines, and none looks to be more attractive on a valuation basis than Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY).
\n
One reason to be excited about this drug developer is its organic growth potential. Eliquis, which was co-developed with Pfizer, has blossomed into the world's leading oral anticoagulant, with sales expected to surpass $10 billion in 2021. Meanwhile, dozens of additional clinical trials are underway for cancer immunotherapy Opdivo, which generated $7 billion in sales last year. This offers plenty of opportunity to expand Opdivo's label and pump up its pricing power.
\n
Another reason Bristol Myers Squibb is such an intriguing stock is its November 2019 acquisition of cancer and immunology company Celgene. Buying Celgene brought the blockbuster multiple-myeloma drug Revlimid into the fold. Revlimid has sustainably grown its annual sales by a double-digit percentage for more than a decade, with label expansion, longer duration of use, and pricing power all playing a role. This key treatment, which topped $12 billion in sales last year, is protected from a full onslaught of generic competition until early 2026. That means Bristol Myers will be rolling in the dough for another five years, at minimum.
\n
\n
Mastercard
\n
Everyone seems to be looking for the smartest recovery play from the pandemic. Payment processor Mastercard (NYSE:MA) might well be the safest way to take advantage of a steady uptick in consumer and enterprise spending.
\n
Mastercard isn't a cheap stock by any means -- at 36 times Wall Street's forward-year earnings consensus -- but it benefits from a simple numbers game. While economic contractions and recessions are inevitable, these periods of turbulence tend to be short-lived. By comparison, economic expansions often last many years. Buying into Mastercard allows investors to take full advantage of these long periods of economic expansion and robust spending. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Mastercard has the second-highest share of credit-card network purchase volume in the U.S., the leading market for consumption.
\n
Investors can also sleep easy with the understanding that Mastercard strictly sticks to payment facilitation. Even though some of its peers also lend, and are therefore able to generate interest income and fees during bull markets, Mastercard has avoided becoming a lender. It's something you'll truly appreciate when a recession strikes. Whereas most financial stocks will be forced to set aside capital to cover credit or loan delinquencies, Mastercard won't have to. This is a big reason it bounces back from recessions quicker than most financial stocks.
\n
\n
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries
\n
If you have an appetite for turnaround plays, brand-name and generic-drug developer Teva Pharmaceutical Industries (NYSE:TEVA) is the stock to buy hand over fist for the second half of 2021. Like Amazon, it's a stock that was added to Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio by either Combs or Weschler and not Buffett.
\n
While there's no denying that Teva has its fair share of hurdles to overcome, the company's turnaround-focused CEO, Kare Schultz, has been a blessing. Since taking the helm less than four years ago, Schultz has helped shave off more than $10 billion in net debt, and he's overseen the reduction of roughly $3 billion in annual operating expenses. There's more work to do to improve Teva's balance sheet, but the company is very clearly on much firmer ground than it was back in 2016-2017.
\n
Schultz also has the potential to play peacemaker for a number of outstanding lawsuits targeting Teva's role in the opioid crisis. If this litigation can be resolved with minimal cash outlay, Teva's valuation could soar. At just 4 times the company's projected earnings in 2021, Teva is about as cheap as a healthcare stock can get.
\n
\n
Bank of America
\n
Lastly, bank stock Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) has the look of a company that can be confidently bought hand over fist for the second half of 2021.
\n
For much of the past decade, the Federal Reserve has kept interest rates at or near historic lows. That's meant less in the way of interest income for banks. But the latest update from the nation's central bank suggests that interest rates could begin creeping up in 2023, a year earlier than previously forecast. Bank of America is the most interest-sensitive money-center bank. According to its first-quarter investor presentation, BofA would generate $8.3 billion in net interest income on a 100-basis-point shift in the interest rate yield curve. That's because the Oracle of Omaha's track record is virtually unsurpassed. Since taking the reins of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B) in the mid-1960s, Buffett's company has averaged an annual return of 20%. This works out to an aggregate gain of greater than 2,800,000% for its Class A shares.\nAlthough Buffett isn't perfect, he and his investing team have a knack for identifying attractively valued businesses that have clear competitive advantages. As we prepare to move into the second half of 2021, the following five Buffett stocks stand out as those that should be bought hand over fist.\nBerkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett. Image source: The Motley Fool.\nAmazon\nEven though Buffett's investing lieutenants, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, are the architects behind Berkshire Hathaway's stake in Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), it's arguably the Buffett stock that should be bought most aggressively ahead of the second half of the year.\nAs most folks probably know, Amazon is an e-commerce juggernaut. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Prime members tend to spend many multiples more than non-Prime shoppers during the course of the year.\nBut it's the company's cloud infrastructure service, Amazon Web Services (AWS), that has truly budded into a star. Since the operating margins associated with cloud infrastructure are considerably higher than what Amazon nets from retail and advertising, AWS' growth is leading to a surge in operating cash flow. If investors were to continue to pay the midpoint of Amazon's operating cash flow multiple over the past decade, it could hit $10,000 a share by 2025.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nBristol Myers Squibb\nPharmaceutical stocks are money machines, and none looks to be more attractive on a valuation basis than Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY).\nOne reason to be excited about this drug developer is its organic growth potential. This offers plenty of opportunity to expand Opdivo's label and pump up its pricing power.\nAnother reason Bristol Myers Squibb is such an intriguing stock is its November 2019 acquisition of cancer and immunology company Celgene. That means Bristol Myers will be rolling in the dough for another five years, at minimum.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nMastercard\nEveryone seems to be looking for the smartest recovery play from the pandemic. Payment processor Mastercard (NYSE:MA) might well be the safest way to take advantage of a steady uptick in consumer and enterprise spending.\nMastercard isn't a cheap stock by any means -- at 36 times Wall Street's forward-year earnings consensus -- but it benefits from a simple numbers game. While economic contractions and recessions are inevitable, these periods of turbulence tend to be short-lived. By comparison, economic expansions often last many years. Buying into Mastercard allows investors to take full advantage of these long periods of economic expansion and robust spending. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Mastercard has the second-highest share of credit-card network purchase volume in the U.S., the leading market for consumption.\nInvestors can also sleep easy with the understanding that Mastercard strictly sticks to payment facilitation. This is a big reason it bounces back from recessions quicker than most financial stocks.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nTeva Pharmaceutical Industries\nIf you have an appetite for turnaround plays, brand-name and generic-drug developer Teva Pharmaceutical Industries (NYSE:TEVA) is the stock to buy hand over fist for the second half of 2021. Like Amazon, it's a stock that was added to Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio by either Combs or Weschler and not Buffett.\nWhile there's no denying that Teva has its fair share of hurdles to overcome, the company's turnaround-focused CEO, Kare Schultz, has been a blessing. Since taking the helm less than four years ago, Schultz has helped shave off more than $10 billion in net debt, and he's overseen the reduction of roughly $3 billion in annual operating expenses. There's more work to do to improve Teva's balance sheet, but the company is very clearly on much firmer ground than it was back in 2016-2017.\nSchultz also has the potential to play peacemaker for a number of outstanding lawsuits targeting Teva's role in the opioid crisis. If this litigation can be resolved with minimal cash outlay, Teva's valuation could soar. At just 4 times the company's projected earnings in 2021, Teva is about as cheap as a healthcare stock can get.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nBank of America\nLastly, bank stock Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) has the look of a company that can be confidently bought hand over fist for the second half of 2021.\nFor much of the past decade, the Federal Reserve has kept interest rates at or near historic lows. Translation: Bank of America's profits should rocket higher beginning in 2023-2024.\nAt the same time, BofA has done an outstanding job of controlling its costs and improving its operating efficiency. Investments in digitization have resulted in higher mobile app and digital banking use, which is allowing the company to consolidate some of its branches. Even with its shares at a 13-year high, Bank of America has plenty left in the tank.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":268,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":162141845,"gmtCreate":1624050501787,"gmtModify":1634023608234,"author":{"id":"3579853052339740","authorId":"3579853052339740","name":"7c6a7275","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579853052339740","idStr":"3579853052339740"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comments and like please","listText":"Comments and like please","text":"Comments and like please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":2,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":13,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/162141845","repostId":"1119296361","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1119296361","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624028454,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1119296361?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-18 23:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Bank Stocks Were Fed Day Winners.
Translation: Bank of America's profits should rocket higher beginning in 2023-2024.
\n
At the same time, BofA has done an outstanding job of controlling its costs and improving its operating efficiency. Investments in digitization have resulted in higher mobile app and digital banking use, which is allowing the company to consolidate some of its branches. Even with its shares at a 13-year high, Bank of America has plenty left in the tank.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
5 Buffett Stocks to Buy Hand Over Fist for the Second Half of 2021
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n5 Buffett Stocks to Buy Hand Over Fist for the Second Half of 2021\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-27 08:55 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
When Warren Buffett buys or sells a stock, Wall Street and retail investors tend to pay very close attention. Even with its shares at a 13-year high, Bank of America has plenty left in the tank.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":268,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":893749884,"gmtCreate":1628303002948,"gmtModify":1633751820265,"author":{"id":"3579853052339740","authorId":"3579853052339740","name":"7c6a7275","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579853052339740","authorIdStr":"3579853052339740"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like","listText":"Please like","text":"Please like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":12,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/893749884","repostId":"1122174975","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1122174975","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1628257533,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1122174975?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-06 21:45","market":"us","language":"en","title":"EV stocks fell in morning trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1122174975","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"(Aug 6) $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ fell 0.41%; They typically occur without warning, and the often violent plunge in stock prices they bring about can be harrowing to even the most experienced investors.
Shopify
But there's one problem: Its stock price already reflects this. Shopify currently trades for about 300 times analysts' earnings estimates for 2022, which is not cheap. Shopify has created fortunes for its long-term investors, and it's poised to continue to do so in the coming decade.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":279,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":155775244,"gmtCreate":1625457613188,"gmtModify":1633940495053,"author":{"id":"3579853052339740","authorId":"3579853052339740","name":"7c6a7275","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579853052339740","authorIdStr":"3579853052339740"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like","listText":"Please like","text":"Please like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/155775244","repostId":"1169840279","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":204,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":898853713,"gmtCreate":1628486389332,"gmtModify":1633746757120,"author":{"id":"3579853052339740","authorId":"3579853052339740","name":"7c6a7275","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579853052339740","authorIdStr":"3579853052339740"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like","listText":"Please like","text":"Please like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/898853713","repostId":"1184000657","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":158,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":899321407,"gmtCreate":1628162083709,"gmtModify":1633753053502,"author":{"id":"3579853052339740","authorId":"3579853052339740","name":"7c6a7275","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579853052339740","authorIdStr":"3579853052339740"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like","listText":"Please like","text":"Please like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/899321407","repostId":"1165947870","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1165947870","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1628148267,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1165947870?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-05 15:24","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Fastly stock plunges 19% after outage sinks forecasts","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1165947870","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"(Update: August 5, 2021 at 04:09 a.m. ET)\nFastly plummets over 19% in premarket trading following th","content":"
(Update: August 5, 2021 at 04:09 a.m. ET)
\n
Fastly plummets over 19% in premarket trading following the company's downside third-quarter and full-year guidance due to the widespread outage in June.
\n

\n
Revenue in the second quarter was up 14% year-over-year to $85.02M, coming in about $1M below consensus. But Amazon ... and some of last year's winners are taking some of the air out of the market today,\" said Jake Dollarhide, chief executive officer of Longbow Asset Management in Tulsa, Oklahoma. \"This market has been driven by big tech and when tech does well, the market seems to go right along with it, and when it doesn't,\" it falls.\nData on Friday showed U.S. consumer spending rose more than expected in June, although annual inflation accelerated further above the Federal Reserve's 2% target.\nUnofficially, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 146.36 points, or 0.42%, to 34,938.17, the S&P 500 lost 23.58 points, or 0.53%, to 4,395.57 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 101.51 points, or 0.69%, to 14,676.76.\nStrong earnings and the continued rebound in the U.S. economy have helped to support stocks this month, but the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus and rising inflation have been concerns.\n\"There are still some distant jitters, whispers about the Delta variant, about cases rising, and I think some underlying worries about a slowdown of the reopenings and possible reversal,\" Dollarhide said.\nAlso on the earnings front, Pampers maker Procter & Gamble Co rose as it forecast higher core earnings for this year, and U.S.-listed shares of Canada's Restaurant Brands International Inc jumped after the Burger King owner beat estimates for quarterly profit.\nPinterest Inc, however, plunged after saying U.S. user growth was decelerating as people who used the platform for crafts and DIY projects during the height of the pandemic were stepping out more.\nCaterpillar Inc shares also fell, even though the company posted a rise in second-quarter adjusted profit on the back of a recovery in global economic activity.\nResults on the quarter overall have been much stronger than expected, with about 89% of the reports beating analysts' estimates on earnings, according to IBES data from Refinitiv. Earnings are now expected to have climbed 89.8% in the second quarter versus forecasts of 65.4% at the start of July.
