NKLA stock is up nearly 20% today as the company promises “more to come” in 2022.
\n
How exactly is Nikola moving forward?
\n
Well, in a tweet Wednesday, Nikola posted a series of images of its recent delivery event at the Port of Los Angeles. The delivery marks a new phase for the company, hopefully one lacking the controversy that defined this year. The electric truck company is looking to build some positive momentum heading into the new year. And at a glance, investors are all for it.
\n
So, what else do you need to know about the electric truck company and NKLA stock?
\n
NKLA Stock Eyes 2022 Rebound After a Rollercoaster Year
\n
Nikola has had a series of PR wins as of late. Just days ago, Nikola publicly agreed to a $125 million settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
\n
Indeed, Nikola was the subject of a fraud investigation brought on by founder and former Executive Chairman Trevor Milton. Milton was arrested this summer for making false claims about his company’s technological capabilities. Investors may remember the viral video showing off what appears to be an operable Nikola prototype. However, in reality, the truck was simply rolling down an incline. Milton earned billions in investments under false pretenses. In fact, General Motors(NYSE:GM) even took a$2 billion stake in the untested company.
\n
While paying a massive fine is rarely seen as a victory, NKLA’s viability depends on its ability to move on. NKLA stock is up nearly 20% today as the company promises “more to come” in 2022.\nHow exactly is Nikola moving forward?\nWell, in a tweet Wednesday, Nikola posted a series of images of its recent delivery event at the Port of Los Angeles. The delivery marks a new phase for the company, hopefully one lacking the controversy that defined this year. The electric truck company is looking to build some positive momentum heading into the new year. And at a glance, investors are all for it.\nSo, what else do you need to know about the electric truck company and NKLA stock?\nNKLA Stock Eyes 2022 Rebound After a Rollercoaster Year\nNikola has had a series of PR wins as of late. Just days ago, Nikola publicly agreed to a $125 million settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).\nIndeed, Nikola was the subject of a fraud investigation brought on by founder and former Executive Chairman Trevor Milton. Milton was arrested this summer for making false claims about his company’s technological capabilities. Investors may remember the viral video showing off what appears to be an operable Nikola prototype. However, in reality, the truck was simply rolling down an incline. Milton earned billions in investments under false pretenses. In fact, General Motors(NYSE:GM) even took a$2 billion stake in the untested company.\nWhile paying a massive fine is rarely seen as a victory, NKLA’s viability depends on its ability to move on. Nikola’s recent delivery of its Tre battery electric vehicle (BEV) only adds to the narrative that this is a fresh chapter. The delivery marks the first of 100 planned BEV semi-trucks that Total Transportation Services intend to acquire over the next few years. It’s a positive sign for Nikola, and one that may convince some that the EV company isn’t just talking after all.\nProspects look good for the first time in a while for the electric truck maker. A recent U.S. intelligencereportsays Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved an operation to capture or kill Khashoggi.\nBiden, however, opted not to punish the crown prince for his alleged role in Khashoggi’s death.\n“We held accountable all the people in that organization — but not the crown prince, because we have never that I’m aware of, when we have an alliance with a country, gone to the acting head of state and punished that person and ostracized him,” Biden said in a recentinterviewwith ABC News.\nThe subsidiary backing the initiative is Taqnia ETS, a company that focuses on engineering and technological services for Saudi Arabia.\nPitchBooksaysTaqnia is based in Saudi Arabia, which “prefers to invest in the life sciences and health, security and defense, information and communication technology, material sciences, energy and environment and water technology sectors.”\nTaqnia’s website says it is owned by the kingdom’s over $400 billionPublic Investment Fund, or PIF, the country’s massive sovereign wealth fund that’s meant to invest into projects and help boost Saudi Arabia’s economy. The lobbying disclosure report says Taqnia ETS is “supervised and financed by the Saudi Ministry of Information.”\nThe PIF’s executive board includes members of the royal family such as the crown prince.\nThe lobbying documents give a glimpse into the upcoming Saudi-led news venture.\nOne of the lobbying disclosures shows that a company called Prime Time Media is helping lead the effort. Prime Time Media’s CEO, Elie Nakouzi, is assisting in the creation of the new digital news organization. His company is getting paid at least $1.6 million, the document shows, to help guide the project.\nThe purchase order included in the lobbying disclosure describes the work being done by Prime Time Media as “English content for news platform.” More than $75,000 has already been spent on equipment, freelancers and a Washington, D.C., studio, the documents say.\nThe lobbying filings were signed by Nakouzi last month and the purchase order included with the disclosure is dated September 2020. The order form is marked by Taqnia ETS’ logo.\nOne of the documents listing Nakouzi says Prime Time Media will “assist client in the video production of English news content. In doing so, registrant will not participate in the dissemination of said news content.”\nNakouzi, who, according to the disclosure, has citizenship in Lebanon but resides in the United States, has a history of working in Middle East media circles. While working for an Arabic television network, Nakouziinterviewedthen President George W. Bush during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.\nNakouzi confirmed to CNBC in an email several aspects of Taqnia’s project, including that it will be a new online platform and that a studio has been created. He declined to comment further on the news content of the upcoming site and referred all questions to Taqnia who did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment.\n“Taqnia plans to launch an international online platform before the end of this year,” Nakouzi said in an email Tuesday. “As for the Studio, we have built a fully equipped virtual green room for future use,” he added while noting that it will be based in Washington.\n“Prime Time Media is not entitled to speak on their behalf. We are a video production house and we don’t do lobbying or PR services,” Nakouzi said.\nEric Ham and Craig Boswell, two U.S.-based journalists, will be anchoring online shows for the Saudi-funded venture. Both Ham and Boswell have so far been paid $6,000 each for what’s described on the disclosure reports as being writers and presenters.\n“Mr. Eric Ham and Mr. Craig Boswell will be hosting online shows that are still in production phase,” Nakouzi said in the email.\nBoswell and Ham did not return requests for comment before publication.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":123,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":691650486,"gmtCreate":1640186397715,"gmtModify":1640186398049,"author":{"id":"3579425512905776","authorId":"3579425512905776","name":"Sfun","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/677878018d08b9f3288b2153431bff4a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579425512905776","authorIdStr":"3579425512905776"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ya","listText":"ya","text":"ya","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/691650486","repostId":"2193920361","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":663,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":693393427,"gmtCreate":1639967552097,"gmtModify":1639967552472,"author":{"id":"3579425512905776","authorId":"3579425512905776","name":"Sfun","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/677878018d08b9f3288b2153431bff4a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579425512905776","authorIdStr":"3579425512905776"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"wa..","listText":"wa..","text":"wa..","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/693393427","repostId":"1130704419","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1130704419","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1639953553,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1130704419?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-20 06:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Nike, Micron, BlackBerry, CarMax, and Other Stocks for Investors to Watch This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1130704419","media":"Barrons","summary":"Stock and bond markets around the world will be closed Friday in observance of Christmas. Before the holiday break,Nike and Micron Technology report on Monday,BlackBerry and General Mills on Tuesday, and CarMax,Cintas, and Paychex on Wednesday.\nIt will be a busy week of economic data releases. On Monday, the Conference Board publishes its Leading Economic Index for November, followed by its Consumer Confidence Index for December on Wednesday.\nOn Thursday, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports personal income and consumption expenditures for November. Consumer earnings are forecast to have risen 0.6% while spending is seen climbing 0.5%. The Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation, the core PCE price index, is expected to have spiked 4.5% in November.\nAlso Thursday, the Census Bureau releases the durable goods report for November, which will provide a window into investment spending in the economy. New orders are forecast to have risen 2.1%. Housing-market indicators out this week include existing-home sales for November on Wednesday and new-home sales for November on Thursday.\nMonday 12/20\nMicron Technology and Nike report quarterly results.\nThe Conference Board releases its Leading Economic Index for November. Consensus estimate is for a 119 reading, which would be 0.6% more than October’s level. The Conference Board currently projects a 5% growth rate for fourth-quarter gross domestic product and a slower but still robust 2.6% for 2022.\nTuesday 12/21\nBlackBerry,FactSet Research Systems, and General Mills announce earnings.\nWednesday 12/22\nThe NAR reports existing-home sales for November. Economists forecast a 2.1% seasonally adjusted annual growth rate, unchanged from November’s second estimate.\nThe Conference Board releases its Consumer Confidence Index for December. Expectations are for a 110 reading, roughly even with the November data. The index is 15% lower than the postpandemic peak reached in June of this year, due to concerns about rising prices and, to a lesser degree, Covid-19 variants.\nThursday 12/23\nThe Department of Labor reports initial jobless claims for the week ending on Dec. 18. Jobless claims have averaged 225,667 a week in November and December, and have finally reached prepandemic levels.\nThe Census Bureau reports new-home sales for November. Consensus estimate is for a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 770,000 new single-family houses sold, 25,000 more than in October. The median sales price of new houses sold in October was $407,700, while the average sales price was $477,800—both record highs.\nThe BEA reports personal income and consumption expenditures for November. Economists forecast a 0.6% monthly increase for income and 0.5% for consumption. This compares with gains for 0.5% and 1.3%, respectively, in October. The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge, the core PCE price index, jumped 4.1% year over year in October, the fastest rate since 1991. Predictions are for it to spike 4.6% in November.\nThe Census Bureau releases the durable goods report for November. New orders for durable manufactured goods are expected to increase 2.1%, to $265.6 billion. Schmidt was among five executives at Lordstown who sold $8 million in stock over three days in February, the WSJ said. A Lordstown spokesperson confirmed to the WSJ that Schmidt sold his stock to expand his new turkey-hunting farm in Tennessee.
\n
But Lordstown spokesperson Ryan Hallett declined to confirm to Yahoo Finance Schmidt's turkey hunting farm endeavor, despite the comments from a spokesperson to the WSJ.
\n
Said Hallett via email, \"Nothing to add beyond this from last Monday’s press release: “…as described in various Form 4 filings in the months following the DiamondPeak transaction, certain Lordstown Motors directors and executives have sold or transferred shares in the Company. Each of those transactions were made for reasons unrelated to the performance of the company or viability of the Endurance, and each such director and executive retained substantial Lordstown Motors equity holdings in the form of shares and options following the sales and transfers described in the Company’s public filings.”
\n
Either way you slice the turkey breast, it has been a brutal week or so for Schmidt and Lordstown.
\n
Schmidt said at an event last week the company had firm orders for all of the Endurance electric trucks it intends to build this year and 2022. Schmidt was among five executives at Lordstown who sold $8 million in stock over three days in February, the WSJ said. A Lordstown spokesperson confirmed to the WSJ that Schmidt sold his stock to expand his new turkey-hunting farm in Tennessee.\nBut Lordstown spokesperson Ryan Hallett declined to confirm to Yahoo Finance Schmidt's turkey hunting farm endeavor, despite the comments from a spokesperson to the WSJ.\nSaid Hallett via email, \"Nothing to add beyond this from last Monday’s press release: “…as described in various Form 4 filings in the months following the DiamondPeak transaction, certain Lordstown Motors directors and executives have sold or transferred shares in the Company. Each of those transactions were made for reasons unrelated to the performance of the company or viability of the Endurance, and each such director and executive retained substantial Lordstown Motors equity holdings in the form of shares and options following the sales and transfers described in the Company’s public filings.”\nEither way you slice the turkey breast, it has been a brutal week or so for Schmidt and Lordstown.\nSchmidt said at an event last week the company had firm orders for all of the Endurance electric trucks it intends to build this year and 2022. Lordstown had to release an SEC filing a day following the event to address Schmidt's comments.\n\"To clarify recent remarks by company executives at the Automotive Press Association online media event on June 15, although these vehicle purchase agreements provide us with a significant indicator of demand for the Endurance, these agreements do not represent binding purchase orders or other firm purchase commitments,\" Lordstown Motors said in the filing.\nAdded Lordstown, \"These vehicle purchase agreements generally include a projected buyer order schedule over the three to five year life of the agreement, and may be terminated by either party at will on 30 days’ notice. They do not commit the counter parties to purchase vehicles, but we believe that they provide us with a significant indicator of demand for the Endurance.\"\nFILE - This Thursday, June 25, 2020, file photo shows the electric Endurance pickup at Lordstown Motors Corp., in Lordstown, Ohio. It was just days after his company knocked the socks off the market with the news that its Covid-19 antiviral had cut the risk of hospitalization by 89% in high-risk adults.
\n
“It can’t be just a random thing, that you’re able to beat this type of world record and get a grand slam at the same time by chance,” Dolsten said, scrambling sports metaphors as he sought to illustrate the magnitude of Pfizer’s twin wins: the development of a stunningly effective Covid-19 vaccine in just 10 months, followed a year later by the development of a similarly stunning Covid-19 antiviral.
\n
Two years ago, Pfizer (ticker: PFE) CEO Albert Bourla asked investors to take a big gamble on the research-and-development operation that Dolsten has rebuilt over the course of more than a decade. That bet is looking smarter than ever.
\n
Bourla has gotten rid of Pfizer’s off-patent drugs division and the last of its consumer health products, leaving behind a pure-play biopharma company that will live or die on the strength of Dolsten’s science.
\n
In a cover story in November 2019, Barron’s argued that Bourla and Dolsten could pull it off.
\n
The new antiviral data reaffirms the case for Pfizer that Barron’s made two years ago. Continuing to profit off the pandemic, however, brings new risks, as criticism grows over the global inequity in vaccine distribution. Low-income nations account for less than 1% of the more than seven billion doses administered worldwide. If distribution of Pfizer’s antiviral continues to favor wealthy nations, the company’s stock could ultimately suffer.
\n
Pfizer’s shares surged 10.9% the day the data came out, their best daily showing in at least 20 years. Still, with the stock now changing hands at around $50, investors continue to undervalue the company. Investors are pricing Pfizer at 12 times next year’s expected earnings, cheaper than peers like Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and Eli Lilly (LLY).
\n
The Pfizer discount can be attributed to concerns over the patent cliff the drugmaker faces at the end of the decade. The company stands to lose exclusivity over a handful of drugs that bring in billions in annual revenue.
\n
The worries are legitimate, but Pfizer’s scientific coup should give investors confidence that the company’s science can carry it safely over that cliff. It may take time for the market to catch up, but for long-term investors, it’s a promising opportunity.
\n
The success of the antiviral is the best illustration yet of Pfizer’s scientific prowess.
\n
While Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine came out of the labs of the German biotech BioNTech (BNTX), the new Covid-19 antiviral was whipped up by what Dolsten called a “dream team” of scientists at Pfizer’s own labs across the Northeast U.S.
\n
In the earliest days of the pandemic, Pfizer split its efforts between its collaboration with BioNTech on the vaccine and its quest for a Covid-19 pill. The vaccine effort operated on a huge scale; Dolsten called it a “mega team” that spanned the Atlantic.
\n
The antiviral project was a much smaller operation—a group of Pfizer experts operating with resources left over from the vaccine push.
\n
“The small molecule was more like a nimble, laser-focused, high-end team, with rather moderate resources,” Dolsten said.
\n
Dolsten gathered some of Pfizer’s most experienced scientists to work on the antiviral project, including its head of medicine design, Charlotte Allerton. The scientists started with work Pfizer had done years ago on a type of antiviral called a protease inhibitor.
\n
“[Pfizer’s] pharmaceutical R&D is better than people had thought.”
\n
The protease inhibitors in the Pfizer library, however, had been administered intravenously, and had not worked well when delivered orally. The team had to figure out how to adapt the drugs to oral administration, a substantial undertaking.
\n
“They had to really create a lot of new chemistry,” Dolsten said. The scientists created 600 compounds to nail down the right drug, a process that might normally take years, and which they accomplished in a matter of months. “Four years turned into four months here,” he said.
\n
Pfizer started testing the pill in humans in March. It is now running a number of Phase 2/3 trials of the drug, including one for patients who are high risk, one for patients not high risk, and one as a prophylaxis for patients who have been exposed to the virus but aren’t yet sick. In the first readout, the drug looked substantially more effective than the Covid treatment pill from Merck (MRK).
\n
“It definitely helps prove the point that [Pfizer’s] pharmaceutical R&D is better than people had thought,” says Louise Chen, an analyst at Cantor Fitzgerald, who has an Overweight rating and a $61 price target on the stock.
\n
Chen says that she doesn’t expect investors to come around to her way of thinking until there is more clarity on the durability of Covid-19 vaccine and pill sales, and the rest of the pipeline gets proved out.
\n
“There is not one event that I think will trigger a re-rating of the stock at the next level,” she says. “Until those things play out, I don’t think that it necessarily will.”
\n
That makes a bet on Pfizer a long-term play. In the meantime, the experience of Moderna (MRNA) in recent weeks is highlighting the potential for the vaccine makers to come under scrutiny over unequal distribution of vaccines.
\n
Biden administration officials have been increasingly frustrated with Moderna, calling on the company to ramp up production so it can offer more doses at not-for-profit prices to low-income countries, with one top official calling on the company to “step up.”
\n
Moderna shares are down more than 40% over the past three months.
\n
As the pandemic persists, Pfizer risks eroding the enormous goodwill it earned roughly a year ago when it introduced its Covid-19 vaccine. Earlier this month, Pfizer CEO Bourla blamed low-income countries for unfair vaccine distribution, telling Barron’s that it was their fault for not placing orders. Pfizer has sold a billion vaccine doses to the U.S. at a not-for-profit price to donate to poor countries, and says that a total of at least two billion doses will be delivered to low- and middle-income nations by the end of next year.
\n
When it comes to antivirals, Pfizer has said only that it will offer tiered pricing for poorer nations, the same approach it has taken with its vaccine.
\n
That contrasts sharply with Merck’s plan to make its own Covid-19 pill available to poor countries. Merck has signed a deal with a United Nations-backed group that will allow its pill to be licensed globally, with no royalties paid to Merck.
\n
Dolsten said that Pfizer is looking into licensing its pill under a similar mechanism as Merck’s. “We will look at those options,” he said. “By no means have we said we would do something different. We just want to make sure whoever will be involved gets the advice and skill to do this.”
\n
Such a step couldn’t come soon enough. Late last month, activists protested outside Bourla’s home, calling on Pfizer to share its vaccine manufacturing technology and to fill orders from low-income countries ahead of those from wealthy countries.
\n
An aggressive plan to share its antiviral would help stave off such criticism, keeping Pfizer in the relative good graces of Washington and allowing its impressive science to continue to drive the stock higher.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Pfizer Shows Its R&D Is Strong.
