Potter, however, isn’t focused on Tesla’s $4 billion deal with rental car company Hertz, which plans to order 100,000 Teslas by the end of 2022. He sees other, bigger, reasons for increasing Tesla value.
\n
Potter raised his price target to $1,300 a share from $1,200 in a Wednesday evening report. “Rather than re-hashing the quarter, or ‘piling on’ to the bullishness following a big order from Hertz, we prefer to focus on three other insights that we think are getting overlooked,” he wrote.
\n
His three reasons: Sales of EVs from other manufacturers are underperforming, Tesla vehicles are simply very good cars, and Tesla’s deferred revenue will help profit margins.
\n
The first two factors are most important. “Every [Tesla] bear thesis includes commentary regarding the likely impact of future competition,” writes Potter. But the Volkswagen (VOW.Germany) ID.4 and Ford Motor (F) Mustang Mach E haven’t derailed Tesla sales. “These vehicles have not matched Tesla’s post-launch performance, even though Tesla’s pricing is often higher than peers.”
\n
Teslas are attractive to buyers, partly because they are solid vehicles. Potter points out that warranty costs are low, while Tesla used car values are also high. That’s partly due to strong demand for EVs, and partly because EVs are turning out to be cheaper to operate than gas-powered vehicles.
\n
Potter’s new price target is the highest on Wall Street, eclipsing the $1,298 from New Street Research analyst Pierre Ferragu. Tesla stock closed at $1,037.86 on Wednesday. The top 10 Tesla price targets now average about $1,146 a share. The bulls are bullish, while Tesla bears are still bearish: The bottom 10 price targets average about $366 a share.
\n
Bears have been raising price targets, too, following Tesla’s strong deliveries, strong earnings, and the Hertz deal, but have been doing so more slowly than the bulls. Potter, however, isn’t focused on Tesla’s $4 billion deal with rental car company Hertz, which plans to order 100,000 Teslas by the end of 2022. He sees other, bigger, reasons for increasing Tesla value.\nPotter raised his price target to $1,300 a share from $1,200 in a Wednesday evening report. “Rather than re-hashing the quarter, or ‘piling on’ to the bullishness following a big order from Hertz, we prefer to focus on three other insights that we think are getting overlooked,” he wrote.\nHis three reasons: Sales of EVs from other manufacturers are underperforming, Tesla vehicles are simply very good cars, and Tesla’s deferred revenue will help profit margins.\nThe first two factors are most important. “Every [Tesla] bear thesis includes commentary regarding the likely impact of future competition,” writes Potter. But the Volkswagen (VOW.Germany) ID.4 and Ford Motor (F) Mustang Mach E haven’t derailed Tesla sales. “These vehicles have not matched Tesla’s post-launch performance, even though Tesla’s pricing is often higher than peers.”\nTeslas are attractive to buyers, partly because they are solid vehicles. Potter points out that warranty costs are low, while Tesla used car values are also high. That’s partly due to strong demand for EVs, and partly because EVs are turning out to be cheaper to operate than gas-powered vehicles.\nPotter’s new price target is the highest on Wall Street, eclipsing the $1,298 from New Street Research analyst Pierre Ferragu. Tesla stock closed at $1,037.86 on Wednesday. The top 10 Tesla price targets now average about $1,146 a share. The bulls are bullish, while Tesla bears are still bearish: The bottom 10 price targets average about $366 a share.\nBears have been raising price targets, too, following Tesla’s strong deliveries, strong earnings, and the Hertz deal, but have been doing so more slowly than the bulls. Since the end of September, the top 10 price targets are up $132 a share, while the bottom 10 targets have climbed about $89 a share.\nTesla stock rose another 3.8% on Thursday.S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose about 1% and 0.7%, respectively. Coming into Thursday, Tesla stock was up about 39% so far in October.\nThe October jump pushed Tesla past $1 trillion in market capitalization.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":676,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":859995976,"gmtCreate":1634648506412,"gmtModify":1634648506551,"author":{"id":"3578126421270532","authorId":"3578126421270532","name":"Cccccccccccc","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Call] [Call] [Call] [Call] ","listText":"[Call] [Call] [Call] [Call] ","text":"[Call] [Call] [Call] [Call]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/859995976","repostId":"1193102851","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1193102851","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1634645497,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1193102851?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-19 20:11","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Toplines Before US Market Open on Tuesday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1193102851","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. stock futures gained on Tuesday as major companies continued to report strong third-quarter ear","content":"
U.S. stock futures gained on Tuesday as major companies continued to report strong third-quarter earnings, easing concerns that persistent Covid cases and rising costs would derail corporate America’s profit recovery.
\n
At 8:00 a.m. ET, Dow e-minis were up 171 points, or 0.49%, S&P 500 e-minis were up 22.75 points, or 0.51%, and Nasdaq 100 e-minis were up 66.50 points, or 0.43%.
\n

\n
Stocks making the biggest moves in the premarket:
\n
\n
Crypto stocks in spotlight as Bitcoin continued its climb toward all-time highs, bolstered by optimism over the launch of the first Bitcoin futures exchange-traded fund in the U.S. on Tuesday.Hive Blockchain (HIVE US) +1.8%, Riot Blockchain (RIOT US) +2.3%, Marathon Digital (MARA US) +0.9%, Bitfarms (BITF US) +3.9%
\n
AgEagle Aerial Systems (UAVS US) shares rise as much as 16% in U.S. premarket after the provider of drones, sensors and software entered into a definitive agreement to buy Sensefly from Parrot at a valuation of $23m in cash and stock
\n
Steel Dynamics (STLD US) +1.5% in U.S. premarket trading after it reported 3Q adj. Coca-Cola
\n
Dividend yield: 3.1%
\n
You know the brand, perhaps as well as any other company in the world. Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) has been around since 1886 and its products are woven into the very fabric of our culture. Its stock has not only paid a reliable quarterly dividend for decades now, but it has increased its annualized payments every year since 1962. That's the upside of selling products that consumers are willing to buy over and over again (often without a second thought).
\n
Those who keep close tabs on Coca-Cola may well know the company's top line has been contracting of late (and that was before pandemic-related shutdowns got in the way). Indeed, sales have been slumping since 2013, giving would-be buyers pause. That shrinking top line, however, isn't nearly as much the result of health-minded concerns -- the avoidance of sugary sodas -- as you might think. It's largely by design.
\n
See, the company has made a point of getting out of the bottling business and it's focusing more on the licensing and franchising business. Namely, it's spent the past few years selling its bottling operations to third-party bottlers who in turn pay the beverage giant royalties for the right to use the brand name. This arrangement translates into lower sales, but brand licensing is a (much) higher-margin business. The new approach to doing business means Coca-Cola is generating more profits than it ever has. That's what income-seeking investors ultimately want to see.
\n
2. 3M
\n
Dividend yield: 3.3%
\n
If you're looking for a thrilling stock pick, don't even bother looking at 3M (NYSE:MMM). The company isn't developing any cutting-edge technology, researching a cure for cancer, or embracing digital alternatives to government-issued currency. It's boring.
\n
But, that's kind of the point.
\n
There's a suite of 3M products you probably know. This is the parent to Post-it notes, Scotch Tape, and Filtrete HVAC filters. That's only a small sampling of what the company sells though. This company also makes products used in the manufacturing of consumer electronics, power line equipment employed by electric utility providers, reflective materials used to make road signs, and food-safety testing materials, just to name a few.
\n
It's not a stretch to suggest that 3M, in one way or another, is all around you every day. It's a consumer staples stock within the industrial world at least as much as it is in the consumer goods arena. While 3M ran into some fiscal turbulence in 2018, those suppressed profits were ultimately linked to a business transformation meant to drive new growth as well as reduce long-term costs.
\n
It seems to have worked too, in spades. The $5.91 worth of per-share dividends paid over the course of the past four quarters are only a fraction of the record-breaking per-share profits of $10.17 earned during this time. This company's got plenty of room to keep funding (and raising) its payout.
\n
3. Leggett & Platt
\n
Dividend yield: 3.7%
\n
Finally, I'm adding Leggett & Platt (NYSE:LEG) to my list of top dividend stocks to step into before September ends and October begins.
\n
Leggett & Platt, of course, makes bedding, furniture, and flooring. They're usually healthy industries, but hardly riveting. Ergo, it's one of those names that's easily -- and often -- overlooked.
\n
Don't let the ho-hum nature of its business deter you from noticing the fact, however, that this company's top and bottom lines are resilient. For instance, while Leggett did suffer a slowdown in the aftermath of 2007-09's subprime mortgage meltdown, it was only a slight one. That year's revenue of just under $4.1 billion was still within sight of 2006's peak sales of a little less than $4.3 billion, and by 2010 things were humming again. The company was even on pace to report record-breaking sales of around $4.8 billion in 2020 before COVID-19 disrupted things. Even so, Leggett & Platt managed to do nearly $4.3 billion worth of business last year, remaining within sight of 2019's then-record revenue of more than $4.7 billion. And, thanks to a generous stock-buyback program, this year's projected profit of between $2.30 and $2.60 per share puts the prospect of record-breaking earnings on the table as well.
\n
Then there's the even-more-overlooked detail about Leggett & Platt that investors don't seem to fully appreciate. Coca-Cola
The company filed a “post-effective” registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the New York Stock Exchange approved the listing, according to securities filings. The fund is expected to start trading on Tuesday.
\n
The ETF’s pending launch helped spark a rally in the coin. It was up 7% on Friday, trading above $61,600 for the first time since April. It’s now up nearly 50% since Sept. 30, when it traded around $41,500.
\n
Fund sponsors have been trying for years to win approval from the SEC for Bitcoin ETFs. The SEC hasn’t approved any ETFs that would own Bitcoin directly—unlike some of the closed-end trusts now on the market. Still, if the ETF launches as expected, it could pave the path for more futures-based ETFs, including products from Invesco, VanEck, Valkyrie and others.
\n
“This will likely be the first of many Bitcoin futures-based ETFs,” says Todd Rosenbluth, head of ETF and mutual fund research at CFRA. He notes that the ETFs should have liquidity and cost advantages over other investment products that offer direct exposure to Bitcoin, including the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) and the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Fund (BITW).
\n
While ETFs may appeal to many investors looking for exposure to crypto in a fund wrapper, they’re just one of many avenues for exposure. Investors can buy Bitcoin and other cryptos directly on exchanges like Coinbase Global (ticker: COIN),Robinhood Markets (HOOD), or Webull. Apps like Square (SQ) and PayPal (PYPL) also make cryptos easy to buy.
\n
Closed-end funds like Grayscale and Bitwise offer direct exposure to cryptos without going through futures markets. Their fees are relatively high, however, and they may trade at premiums or discounts to their underlying net asset value. Both now trade at discounts.
\n
The ProShares ETF will have an expense ratio of 0.95%. That would make it less costly than the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust at 2% or the Bitwise Index fund with a 2.5% expense ratio.
\n
Yet investing in Bitcoin through futures contracts has some drawbacks. While the contracts aim to track the spot prices of Bitcoin, they impose costs on investors because fund managers must continually roll over expiring contracts into new ones, resulting in “roll yields” that may be negative or positive, depending on futures prices in the near- and long-term.
\n
One complication with the strategy is called “contango,” a situation that arises when a futures contract with a longer-term expiration trades at higher prices than contracts with short-term expirations. Contango can happen for technical reasons, and it occurs in commodities markets when investors expect prices in the future to be substantially higher.
\n
Funds that primarily hold near-term contracts may take losses when futures are in contango, due to what’s called a “negative roll yield.” ProShares plans to manage the roll yields and hold longer-term contracts opportunistically.
\n
One other complication for ETF investors is taxes. Futures contracts are generally taxed on a mark-to-market basis of unrealized gains and losses. Even if a fund doesn’t sell a contract, it may rack up a tax liability at the end of the year on unrealized gains. Moreover, a fund’s taxable income, which is distributed to shareholders, would consist of 40% short-term capital gains or losses, and 60% long-term, according to IRS rules.
\n
ProShares says in its filing that investors should expect a “significant portion” of any capital gains or losses to be short-term.
\n
That isn’t ideal for long-term investors. If Bitcoin keeps rising in price, an investor who bought and held for more than a year would owe tax on long-term capital gains on a sale. Long-term capital-gains rates are generally lower than short-term, which is equivalent to ordinary-income rates.
\n
Still, the first Bitcoin ETF could be popular with advisors aiming to add crypto for clients. Including ETFs in client portfolios would allow them to charge management fees on the holdings, and ETFs tend to be quite liquid, allowing advisors to trade.
\n
The ETF may also put pressure on funds managed by Grayscale, Bitwise and other crypto fund managers to lower their fees to compete.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
The First Bitcoin Futures ETF Is Coming Next Week.
