The thing is, the tech giant just might be able to pull it off.
\n
The buzz around Apple last year was off the charts, even for what is the buzziest of technology companies. Anticipation of the fall launch of the company’s first 5G phones, surging demand for both Macs and iPads as the pandemic rolled on, and strength in both wearables and services fed off each other. The pieces all came together in the December quarter, when Apple (ticker: AAPL) posted its biggest quarter ever. Sales soared 21% to $111.4 billion, more than $8 billion over the Street consensus. Every product category—iPhone, iPad, Macs, wearables, and services—notched double-digit growth. Apple stock finished the year up 81%, adding nearly $1 trillion to its market cap.
\n
That’s a tough act to follow, particularly with the March quarter, which always slows from the holiday-boosted December quarter. But Apple could pull off the quintuple double again when its results come out after the bell Wednesday. The Street certainly thinks so, even if the market, which has pushed Apple shares up less than 2% in 2021, has been more cautious. Consensus estimates call for double-digit increases from last year across the board: iPhones sales up 43%, to $41.4 billion; iPad sales up 29%, to $5.6 billion; Mac sales of $6.8 billion, up 27%; wearables sales (mostly Apple Watch and AirPods) of $7.4 billion, up 18%; and a 16% bump in services, to $15.5 billion.
\n
Overall, the Street consensus expects sales of $77 billion, up 32% from a year ago, with profits of 98 cents a share. That would be the fastest top-line growth rate for any Apple quarter since March 2012, when revenues were about half what they are now. And most bullish Apple analysts seem to think their own estimates are too low—a print at $77 billion would likely trigger a selloff in the stock.
\n
Apple is also expected to provide an update on its capital-allocation strategy. A year ago,the company announced a 6% dividend increase, and boosted its stock repurchase plan by $50 billion. Apple has said repeatedly that it is pushing to get to a cash neutral position, but its remarkably big cash flow has slowed progress toward that goal.
\n
As always, the quarter is about more than just earnings.
\n
For one, the Street will be looking for signs that the sales surge for Macs and iPads is sustainable—and that the company is keeping up with demand despite widespread chip and display shortages. Some investors worry that the spike in PC demand could ebb as more people return to schools and offices. They’ll be looking for company guidance on that point.
\n
Another is the sustainability of the resurgence in iPhone growth. There were high hopes among bulls that the iPhone 12 would drive a “supercycle” with an accelerated replacement cycle. Several analysts have noted that a clear consumer preference for the high end of the iPhone 12 line is driving up average selling prices, which should support a strong revenue quarter for the segment.
\n
“Given the later-than-seasonal launch of new iPhones in the fall of 2020, we believe iPhone demand will experience more favorable year-over-year comparisons this March quarter compared to past years,” writes Monness Crespi Hardt’s Brian White, who sees 47% iPhone revenue growth during the quarter.
\n
And if Apple pulls it all together? Apple could crush Street estimates, writes Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, who has an Overweight rating and a $158 price target on the stock, up 17% from Monday’s close of $134.72. She sees the top line above $80 billion, with all segments growing at least 19% year over year. She is especially bullish on Mac and iPad sales, with estimates far above consensus—53% for Macs and 52% for iPads. She also expects Apple to increase its dividend by 10% and expand its stock repurchase program by $60 billion.
\n
That would certainly qualify as a job well done.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Could Blow the Top Off Earnings—Again. Should You?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1143899408","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The Oracle of Omaha could be right about these recent picks -- at least for income-seeking investors","content":"
The Oracle of Omaha could be right about these recent picks -- at least for income-seeking investors.
\n
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRKA)(NYSE:BRKB) has never paid a dividend. But make no mistake about it: The billionaire investor really likes dividends. In fact, he highlighted the huge amounts that Berkshire receives in dividends from a couple of its top holdings in his most recent letter to shareholders.
\n
Berkshire's dividend payments will no doubt increase thanks to some of its recent purchases. Buffett just bought three high-yield dividend stocks. Here's which stocks he scooped up -- and whether or not they're good picks for you too.
\n
AbbVie
\n
Berkshire initiated a position in AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) during the third quarter of 2020 with a purchase of nearly 21.3 million shares. Buffett appears to like the big drugmaker. Berkshire owned AbbVie over 25.5 million shares of the stock by the end of the fourth quarter.
\n
AbbVie's pedigree as a dividend stock is impressive. It's a Dividend Aristocrat with 49 consecutive years of dividend increases. Since being spun off from Abbott Labs in 2013, AbbVie has boosted its dividend by 225%. The dividend yield currently stands at nearly 4.9%.
\n
I think that many investors will, like Buffett, find AbbVie to be an attractive pick. In addition to its great dividend, the stock is cheap with shares trading at less than nine times expected earnings.
\n
The company faces some headwinds beginning in 2023 with the entrance of biosimilars to its top-selling drug Humira in the U.S. market. However, it won't take long for AbbVie to recover. The company expects to deliver modest revenue growth in 2024 followed by high-single-digit growth throughout the rest of the decade.
\n
Chevron
\n
Buffett hasn't been a big fan of the energy sector over the last couple of years. However, he seems to be warming up at least somewhat. In the fourth quarter, Berkshire opened a sizable position in Chevron(NYSE:CVX).
\n
The oil and gas giant is also a Dividend Aristocrat with 33 consecutive years of dividend hikes. Chevron's dividend yield of over 4.9% is juicy enough to catch the eye of most income investors.
\n
There are other reasons investors might like Chevron in addition to its strong dividend. The energy sector could mount a strong comeback this year as the economy reopens. The increasing availability of COVID-19 vaccines combined with the recent stimulus package should help drive the recovery.
\n
Chevron ranks as one of the best energy stocks around. The company continues to enjoy a solid financial position. It reduced capital spending even while positioning itself well for rising oil and gas prices with the well-timed acquisition of Noble Energy. Although the stock is likely to remain volatile, Chevron should still be a winner for investors over the next five-to-10 years.
\n
Verizon Communications
\n
The biggest addition of all for Berkshire in Q4 was its initiation of a position in Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ). Buffett and his team were so enthusiastic about the telecom giant that Berkshire bought around $9 billion worth of Verizon's shares.
\n
So why did Buffett buy Verizon? But make no mistake about it: The billionaire investor really likes dividends. In fact, he highlighted the huge amounts that Berkshire receives in dividends from a couple of its top holdings in his most recent letter to shareholders.\nBerkshire's dividend payments will no doubt increase thanks to some of its recent purchases. Buffett just bought three high-yield dividend stocks. Here's which stocks he scooped up -- and whether or not they're good picks for you too.\nAbbVie\nBerkshire initiated a position in AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) during the third quarter of 2020 with a purchase of nearly 21.3 million shares. Buffett appears to like the big drugmaker. Berkshire owned AbbVie over 25.5 million shares of the stock by the end of the fourth quarter.\nAbbVie's pedigree as a dividend stock is impressive. It's a Dividend Aristocrat with 49 consecutive years of dividend increases. Since being spun off from Abbott Labs in 2013, AbbVie has boosted its dividend by 225%. The dividend yield currently stands at nearly 4.9%.\nI think that many investors will, like Buffett, find AbbVie to be an attractive pick. In addition to its great dividend, the stock is cheap with shares trading at less than nine times expected earnings.\nThe company faces some headwinds beginning in 2023 with the entrance of biosimilars to its top-selling drug Humira in the U.S. market. However, it won't take long for AbbVie to recover. The company expects to deliver modest revenue growth in 2024 followed by high-single-digit growth throughout the rest of the decade.\nChevron\nBuffett hasn't been a big fan of the energy sector over the last couple of years. However, he seems to be warming up at least somewhat. In the fourth quarter, Berkshire opened a sizable position in Chevron(NYSE:CVX).\nThe oil and gas giant is also a Dividend Aristocrat with 33 consecutive years of dividend hikes. Chevron's dividend yield of over 4.9% is juicy enough to catch the eye of most income investors.\nThere are other reasons investors might like Chevron in addition to its strong dividend. The energy sector could mount a strong comeback this year as the economy reopens. The increasing availability of COVID-19 vaccines combined with the recent stimulus package should help drive the recovery.\nChevron ranks as one of the best energy stocks around. The company continues to enjoy a solid financial position. It reduced capital spending even while positioning itself well for rising oil and gas prices with the well-timed acquisition of Noble Energy. Although the stock is likely to remain volatile, Chevron should still be a winner for investors over the next five-to-10 years.\nVerizon Communications\nThe biggest addition of all for Berkshire in Q4 was its initiation of a position in Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ). Buffett and his team were so enthusiastic about the telecom giant that Berkshire bought around $9 billion worth of Verizon's shares.\nSo why did Buffett buy Verizon? He almost certainly appreciated the company's dividend. Although Verizon isn't a Dividend Aristocrat, it has increased its dividend payout for 14 years running. The telecom leader's dividend yield of nearly 4.5% provides Berkshire a much better return than parking its money in money market accounts.\nVerizon also appears to be poised to be a leader in high-speed 5G networks. Buffett might not be an expert in autonomous vehicles and the Internet of Things, but he definitely understands the importance of a solid infrastructure. And Verizon's 5G infrastructure is massive and growing.\nEven with its 5G prospects, I don't view Verizon as a great growth stock at this point. However, I think that it's a pretty good pick for income-seeking investors.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":436,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":323121961,"gmtCreate":1615312874953,"gmtModify":1703487267906,"author":{"id":"3577962370327163","authorId":"3577962370327163","name":"Ynnez","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577962370327163","authorIdStr":"3577962370327163"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/323121961","repostId":"1194586000","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":116,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":325522963,"gmtCreate":1615907491352,"gmtModify":1703494920183,"author":{"id":"3577962370327163","authorId":"3577962370327163","name":"Ynnez","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577962370327163","authorIdStr":"3577962370327163"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍🏻👍🏻","listText":"👍🏻👍🏻","text":"👍🏻👍🏻","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/325522963","repostId":"1193834448","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1193834448","pubTimestamp":1615904223,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1193834448?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-03-16 22:17","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple price target raised at Evercore with $225 bull case on long-term growth","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1193834448","media":"seekingalpha","summary":" Outlining the \"next set of 'multi-billion' dollar opportunities that could further drive value creation,\" Evercore maintains an Outperform rating on Appleand raises the price target from $163 to $175 with a bull case of $225 and a bear case of $90.Analyst Amit Daryanani remains focused on the Services and Wearables businesses, seeing a \"clear path\" to $100B in Services revenue by FY25 and $70B for Wearables. The thing is, the tech g","content":"
Apple has its work cut out for it trying to surpass 2020’s blowout results.
The thing is, the tech giant just might be able to pull it off.\nThe buzz around Apple last year was off the charts, even for what is the buzziest of technology companies. Apple stock finished the year up 81%, adding nearly $1 trillion to its market cap.\nThat’s a tough act to follow, particularly with the March quarter, which always slows from the holiday-boosted December quarter. But Apple could pull off the quintuple double again when its results come out after the bell Wednesday. The Street certainly thinks so, even if the market, which has pushed Apple shares up less than 2% in 2021, has been more cautious. Consensus estimates call for double-digit increases from last year across the board: iPhones sales up 43%, to $41.4 billion; iPad sales up 29%, to $5.6 billion; Mac sales of $6.8 billion, up 27%; wearables sales (mostly Apple Watch and AirPods) of $7.4 billion, up 18%; and a 16% bump in services, to $15.5 billion.\nOverall, the Street consensus expects sales of $77 billion, up 32% from a year ago, with profits of 98 cents a share. That would be the fastest top-line growth rate for any Apple quarter since March 2012, when revenues were about half what they are now. And most bullish Apple analysts seem to think their own estimates are too low—a print at $77 billion would likely trigger a selloff in the stock.\nApple is also expected to provide an update on its capital-allocation strategy. A year ago,the company announced a 6% dividend increase, and boosted its stock repurchase plan by $50 billion. Apple has said repeatedly that it is pushing to get to a cash neutral position, but its remarkably big cash flow has slowed progress toward that goal.\nAs always, the quarter is about more than just earnings.\nFor one, the Street will be looking for signs that the sales surge for Macs and iPads is sustainable—and that the company is keeping up with demand despite widespread chip and display shortages. Some investors worry that the spike in PC demand could ebb as more people return to schools and offices. They’ll be looking for company guidance on that point.\nAnother is the sustainability of the resurgence in iPhone growth. There were high hopes among bulls that the iPhone 12 would drive a “supercycle” with an accelerated replacement cycle. Several analysts have noted that a clear consumer preference for the high end of the iPhone 12 line is driving up average selling prices, which should support a strong revenue quarter for the segment.\n“Given the later-than-seasonal launch of new iPhones in the fall of 2020, we believe iPhone demand will experience more favorable year-over-year comparisons this March quarter compared to past years,” writes Monness Crespi Hardt’s Brian White, who sees 47% iPhone revenue growth during the quarter.\nAnd if Apple pulls it all together? Apple could crush Street estimates, writes Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, who has an Overweight rating and a $158 price target on the stock, up 17% from Monday’s close of $134.72. She sees the top line above $80 billion, with all segments growing at least 19% year over year. She is especially bullish on Mac and iPad sales, with estimates far above consensus—53% for Macs and 52% for iPads. She also expects Apple to increase its dividend by 10% and expand its stock repurchase program by $60 billion.\nThat would certainly qualify as a job well done.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":567,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":353525079,"gmtCreate":1616508819891,"gmtModify":1634525447835,"author":{"id":"3577962370327163","authorId":"3577962370327163","name":"Ynnez","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577962370327163","authorIdStr":"3577962370327163"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[龇牙] ","listText":"[龇牙] ","text":"[龇牙]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/353525079","repostId":"2121488575","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":706,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":327688833,"gmtCreate":1616080284222,"gmtModify":1634527324941,"author":{"id":"3577962370327163","authorId":"3577962370327163","name":"Ynnez","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577962370327163","authorIdStr":"3577962370327163"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍🏻👍🏻","listText":"👍🏻👍🏻","text":"👍🏻👍🏻","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/327688833","repostId":"1172934216","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1172934216","pubTimestamp":1616077569,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1172934216?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-03-18 22:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Investors really hate tech stocks right now— but should they?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1172934216","media":"yahoo","summary":"There is no love for hot tech stocks right now, but strategists say eventually that will change because commonsense says it should change.Nevertheless, the lack of love for tech is growing palpable as positions areslashed amid the rise in 10-year yields and a rotation into value stocks.Fund managers cut their tech weighting to the lowest overweight position since January 2009,according to a new survey out this week from Bank of America.
He almost certainly appreciated the company's dividend. Although Verizon isn't a Dividend Aristocrat, it has increased its dividend payout for 14 years running. The telecom leader's dividend yield of nearly 4.5% provides Berkshire a much better return than parking its money in money market accounts.
\n
Verizon also appears to be poised to be a leader in high-speed 5G networks. Buffett might not be an expert in autonomous vehicles and the Internet of Things, but he definitely understands the importance of a solid infrastructure. And Verizon's 5G infrastructure is massive and growing.
\n
Even with its 5G prospects, I don't view Verizon as a great growth stock at this point. However, I think that it's a pretty good pick for income-seeking investors.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Warren Buffett Just Bought These 3 High-Yield Dividend Stocks.
