Shares have jumped almost 8% for the week and are on pace for their best week since April.
\n
Investors, rightly so, are wondering what’s going on. We found four reasons, outlined below.
\n
Taking Cues From China
\n
Many electric-vehicle stocks have been on a winning streak lately, beyond just Tesla. Coming into the week, shares of Chinese EV maker NIO(NIO) were up 17% for the month.XPeng(XPEV) and Li Auto(LI) had gained 31% and 36%, respectively.
\n
Tesla, on the other hand, was down for the month of June coming into this week. But China is the world’s largest market for EVs, so when things are going well there, it bodes well for Tesla. It looks like some of the Chinese EV maker stocks’ shine has finally rubbed off on Tesla.
\n
Delivery Optimism
\n
The second reason is about second-quarter deliveries, after perceived weakness in Chinese delivery numbers. More recently, however, several reports have been popping up about Tesla working hard to deliver vehicles into the end of this month.
\n
“After a disaster start to the quarter for Tesla in China, the Street is reading the tea leaves as bullish for the month of June with momentum into [the second half],” Wedbush analyst Dan Ivestells Barron’s. He believes 900,000 deliveries is still possible for 2021. Wall Street is modeling about 825,000. Tesla delivered about 500,000 cars in 2020.
\n
Green Tidal Wave
\n
Ives has also written about a “green tidal wave” coming from the White House. President Joe Biden wants part of any infrastructure bill to include purchase incentives for EVs as well as charging infrastructure. A bill isn’t ready, but progress was made in Washington this week.
\n
Musk Tweeting, Again
\n
No search for the reason behind moves in Tesla stock would be complete without looking at CEO Elon Musk ‘s Twitter (TWTR) feed. He tweeted Friday that the updated full self-driving, or FSD, software and subscription pricing could roll out in as soon as a week.
\n
Tesla plans to offer its highest level of driver assistance, called full self-driving or FSD, on a subscription basis. It’s a new era for car companies, which don’t typically get to realize recurring revenue like software providers. Shares have jumped almost 8% for the week and are on pace for their best week since April.\nInvestors, rightly so, are wondering what’s going on. We found four reasons, outlined below.\nTaking Cues From China\nMany electric-vehicle stocks have been on a winning streak lately, beyond just Tesla. Coming into the week, shares of Chinese EV maker NIO(NIO) were up 17% for the month.XPeng(XPEV) and Li Auto(LI) had gained 31% and 36%, respectively.\nTesla, on the other hand, was down for the month of June coming into this week. But China is the world’s largest market for EVs, so when things are going well there, it bodes well for Tesla. It looks like some of the Chinese EV maker stocks’ shine has finally rubbed off on Tesla.\nDelivery Optimism\nThe second reason is about second-quarter deliveries, after perceived weakness in Chinese delivery numbers. More recently, however, several reports have been popping up about Tesla working hard to deliver vehicles into the end of this month.\n“After a disaster start to the quarter for Tesla in China, the Street is reading the tea leaves as bullish for the month of June with momentum into [the second half],” Wedbush analyst Dan Ivestells Barron’s. He believes 900,000 deliveries is still possible for 2021. Wall Street is modeling about 825,000. Tesla delivered about 500,000 cars in 2020.\nGreen Tidal Wave\nIves has also written about a “green tidal wave” coming from the White House. President Joe Biden wants part of any infrastructure bill to include purchase incentives for EVs as well as charging infrastructure. A bill isn’t ready, but progress was made in Washington this week.\nMusk Tweeting, Again\nNo search for the reason behind moves in Tesla stock would be complete without looking at CEO Elon Musk ‘s Twitter (TWTR) feed. He tweeted Friday that the updated full self-driving, or FSD, software and subscription pricing could roll out in as soon as a week.\nTesla plans to offer its highest level of driver assistance, called full self-driving or FSD, on a subscription basis. It’s a new era for car companies, which don’t typically get to realize recurring revenue like software providers. Bulls have been waiting quite some time for the FSD subscription to arrive.\nWhat’s Next\nNext up for Tesla investors, after any FSD release, will be second-quarter delivery numbers and then earnings. Those data points come in July.\nYear to date, Tesla stock is still down about 4.8%, trailing behind comparable gains of the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":176,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":125067570,"gmtCreate":1624637264790,"gmtModify":1631885372884,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Churchill Capital Corp IV(CCIV)$LETS GOOOOOO","listText":"$Churchill Capital Corp IV(CCIV)$LETS GOOOOOO","text":"$Churchill Capital Corp IV(CCIV)$LETS GOOOOOO","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b5883f7d32b9e493e23a281f2ce0fec4","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/125067570","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":146,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":125064704,"gmtCreate":1624637233408,"gmtModify":1631891741788,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Woo!!!","listText":"Woo!!!","text":"Woo!!!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/befd46171466a4d19b67ee883f73ba91","width":"1080","height":"2010"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/125064704","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":113,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":177217863,"gmtCreate":1627223304952,"gmtModify":1631890366498,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$hmmmmmmm cool","listText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$hmmmmmmm cool","text":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$hmmmmmmm cool","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2b8f1a251b6719029752ebe08ab6a692","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":5,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/177217863","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":190,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":855881496,"gmtCreate":1635349432712,"gmtModify":1635349567366,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Meh","listText":"Meh","text":"Meh","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/855881496","repostId":"1187905821","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":348,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":109488235,"gmtCreate":1619709974027,"gmtModify":1634210506928,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"No doge coin to buy over here","listText":"No doge coin to buy over here","text":"No doge coin to buy over here","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/109488235","repostId":"1129981735","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1129981735","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619709258,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1129981735?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-29 23:14","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Forget Dogecoin -- These Stocks Could Go to the Moon","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1129981735","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The cryptocurrency market has received a ton of attention recently. Revenue in the most recent quarter (ended Dec. 31st) rose 58% year-over-year, with activeaccountsnow totaling 51.2 million. Engagement is also through the roof -- those accounts watched a whopping 17 billion hours of shows and movies in the quarter.
\n
Asthe business continues to scale up, the gross and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) margins expand meaningfully. The latter figure was 17.5% last quarter, a big uptick from being negative just two quarters earlier.
\n
It looks as though streaming is the way everyone will consume video in the future, and Roku stands to gain tremendously from this.
\n
Focus on what matters
\n
Unlike Dogecoin, Etsy and Roku are two legitimate business operations. Revenue in the most recent quarter (ended Dec. 31st) rose 58% year-over-year, with activeaccountsnow totaling 51.2 million. Engagement is also through the roof -- those accounts watched a whopping 17 billion hours of shows and movies in the quarter.\nAsthe business continues to scale up, the gross and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) margins expand meaningfully. The latter figure was 17.5% last quarter, a big uptick from being negative just two quarters earlier.\nIt looks as though streaming is the way everyone will consume video in the future, and Roku stands to gain tremendously from this.\nFocus on what matters\nUnlike Dogecoin, Etsy and Roku are two legitimate business operations. They have huge expansion opportunities, which are further bolstered by their platform structures and network effects. And both deliver significant value to the various groups of users they serve.\nSome of the most successful and fastest-growing companies in recent times all have this trait, making it one of the best business models investors want to own. Forget about the latest cryptocurrency craze. Instead, stash your money in these stocks and be patient and willing to hold for the long term.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":284,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":176657450,"gmtCreate":1626882007970,"gmtModify":1631890366503,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$HMMMMMMMMMNICE","listText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$HMMMMMMMMMNICE","text":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$HMMMMMMMMMNICE","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f4d7b3892b15b3d262f59f0db825214c","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/176657450","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":511,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":105644582,"gmtCreate":1620301846446,"gmtModify":1634206262960,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Can i get some likes?","listText":"Can i get some likes?","text":"Can i get some likes?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/105644582","repostId":"1189678040","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1189678040","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620300590,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1189678040?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-06 19:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"These two stocks could be the best plays for newfound consumer strength, traders say","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1189678040","media":"CNBC","summary":"William Blair came out with some bullish calls on a few lesser-known consumer stocks, addingBurlingt","content":"
\n
William Blair came out with some bullish calls on a few lesser-known consumer stocks, addingBurlington Stores,J&J Snack Foods,National VisionandSix Flagsto its near-term focus list. But those aren't ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The SEC has been mulling guidance that would curb these projections, Reuters reported earlier this month.\nThe prospects for the bill to become law are unclear, but it signals growing Congressional attention on the industry.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":170,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":121376104,"gmtCreate":1624455646208,"gmtModify":1631885372924,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Churchill Capital Corp IV(CCIV)$gogog","listText":"$Churchill Capital Corp IV(CCIV)$gogog","text":"$Churchill Capital Corp IV(CCIV)$gogog","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c20b60d06adc8c8bb4ac09b7fe63d16c","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/121376104","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":82,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":161666621,"gmtCreate":1623923054363,"gmtModify":1631893912764,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$meh","listText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$meh","text":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$meh","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1830e32b11cceafb3673c0e5c0e3e907","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/161666621","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":87,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":112701543,"gmtCreate":1622912753182,"gmtModify":1634096938630,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gogogo","listText":"Gogogo","text":"Gogogo","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5fefef850713a53111d2b41500781e80","width":"1080","height":"2101"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/112701543","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":65,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":199767733,"gmtCreate":1620735373422,"gmtModify":1634196744445,"author":{"id":"3577357058539261","authorId":"3577357058539261","name":"ASH21","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5cd8cba4c931b1a465e4bc427759178a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577357058539261","authorIdStr":"3577357058539261"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment n like!","listText":"Comment n like!","text":"Comment n like!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/199767733","repostId":"1197767049","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1197767049","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1620734955,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1197767049?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-11 20:09","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Playtika EPS misses by $0.04, beats on revenue","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1197767049","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Playtika Holding Corp. The president addresses a joint session of Congress Wednesday evening. It’s a huge week for earnings with about a third of the S&P 500 reporting, including Big Tech names, such as Apple,Microsoft,Alphabet and Amazon. As many have already done, firms like Boeing, Ford,Caterpillar and McDonald’s, are likely to detail cost pressures they are facing from rising materials and transportation costs and supply chain disruptions. At the same time, the Fed is expected to defend its policy of letting inflation run hot, while assuring markets it sees the pick-up in prices as only temporary. The central bank meets on Tuesday and Wednesday. The central bank takes the main stage“I think the Fed would like not to be a feature next week, but the Fed will be forced from the background because of concerns about inflation,” said Diane Swonk, chief economist at Grant Thornton. The central bank is not expected to make any policy moves, but Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s press briefing following the meeting Wednesday will be closely watched. So far, the barrage of earnings news has been positive, with 86% of companies reporting earnings beats. Corporate profits are expected to be up about 33.9% for the first quarter, based on estimates and actual reports, according to Refinitiv. Revenues are about 9.9% higher. There is important inflation data Friday when the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge is reported. The personal consumption expenditure report is expected to show a 1.8% rise in core inflation, still below the Fed’s target of 2%. Other data releases include the first-quarter gross domestic product on Thursday, which is expected to have grown by 6.5%, according to Dow Jones.“I think the Fed has no urgency to shift monetary policy at this point,” said Ian Lyngen, head of U.S. rates strategy at BMO. “The Fed needs to acknowledge that the data is improving. We had a strong first quarter.”“The Fed needs to acknowledge that but at the same time they’re keeping extremely accommodative policy in place, so they’ll have to make a note to the fact that the easy policy is warranted,” he said.Lyngen said the Fed will likely point to continued concerns about the pandemic globally as a potential risk to the economic recovery.Powell is also expected to once more explain that the Fed will let inflation rise above its 2% target for a period of time before it raises rates so that the economy can have more time to heal. “It’s going to be a challenge for the Fed,” said Swonk. The base effects for the next several months will make inflation appear to have jumped sharply because of the comparison to a weak period last year. The consumer price index for April could be above 3%, compared to 2.6% last month, Swonk added.“The Fed is trying to let a lot more people get out onto the dance floor before it calls ‘last call,’” she said. “Really what Powell has been saying since day one is if we take care of people on the margins and bring them back into the labor force, the rest will take care of itself.”Stocks were slightly lower in the past week, and Treasury yields held at lower levels. The 10-year yield, which moves opposite price, was at 1.55% Friday. The S&P 500was down 0.1%, ending the week at 4,180, while Nasdaq Composite was down nearly 0.3% at 14,016. The Dow was off just shy of 0.5% at 34,043.Tax hike prospectsStocks were hit hard on Thursday when after a news report said that Biden is expected to propose a capital gains tax rate of 39.6% for people earning more than $1 million a year.Combined with the 3.8% net investment income tax, the new levy would more than double the long term capital gains rate of 20% or the richest Americans.Strategists said Biden is expected to propose raising the income tax rate for those earning more than $400,000.“I think a lot of people are starting to price in the risk there going to be a significant increase in both corporate and capital gains taxes,” said Lyngen. So far, companies have not provided much in the way of commentary on the proposed hike in corporate taxes to 28% from 21% but they have been talking about other costs.David Bianco, chief investment strategist for the Americas at DWS, said he expects larger companies will do better dealing with supply chain constraints than smaller ones. Big Tech is also likely to fare better during the semiconductor shortage than auto makers, which have already announced production shutdowns, he said.“Next week is tech week. I think we’re going to get down on our knees and just be in awe of their business models and their ability to grow at a behemoth scale,” Bianco said.He said he’s not in favor of Wall Street’s popular trade into cyclicals and out of growth. He still favors growth.“We’re overweight equities really because we’re concerned about rising interest rates,” Bianco said. “I’m not bullish in that I expect the market to rise that much from here.”“We stuck with growth and dug deeper into bond substitutes, utilities, staples, real estate,” he said, adding he is underweight industrials, energy and materials. “Energy is doomed. It’s being nationalized via regulation. I do like industrials, they are well-run companies, but I do think infrastructure spending expectations for classic infrastructure are too high.”He also said industrials are good businesses, but the stocks have become overvalued.Bianco said he likes big box stores, but smaller retailers are facing big challenges that were already impacting them prior to Covid. He also finds small biotech firms attractive.“I like healthcare stocks. Those valuations are reasonable. People have been paranoid about politicians beating on them since 1992. They manage through it and lately they’ve been delivering,” he said.Week ahead calendarMondayEarnings:Tesla,Canadian National Railway, Canon,Check Point Software,Otis Worldwide, Vale,Ameriprise,NXP Hike","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2138395488","media":"Benzinga","summary":"USA Truck (NASDAQ: USAK) implemented a pay increase for its drivers earlier this month.","content":"
USA Truck (NASDAQ:USAK) implemented a pay increase for its drivers earlier this month.

That normally isn't a big deal. Companies have been doing that since late last summer. What was notable about USA Truck, one of the country's largest truckload carriers and publicly traded to boot, is that it was the company's first increase in pay since 2018, while other companies have implemented multiple recent increases.

And yet USA Truck says it has managed to cut its turnover rate by 50%.

That's according to Nick Wakefield, the vice president of driver recruiting and retention at USA Truck. FreightWaves interviewed Wakefield following a joint announcement between USA Truck and WorkHound, whose app seeks to provide trucking companies with close-to-real-time feedback from drivers. In that announcement, USA Truck credited its partnership with WorkHound as a key reason for the decline in turnover.

\"Using WorkHound really helped inform us of what the current-right-now experience is, so we can engage in that experience, change it, and lead to a different result,\" Wakefield said in the joint announcement.

The success story USA Truck is telling about its retention efforts suggests two things. One, increasing pay is not necessarily the end-all in retention. Two, feedback only has value if it's acted upon.

\"Back in June of last year, we had recognized as a leadership team that in order for us to achieve the key results of the business we wanted, we had to do something different,\" Wakefield told FreightWaves. \"Mid-COVID, we said let's put a pause on what we are doing. We are doing the same things and not producing different results, the definition of insanity.\"

To get the results it sought, Wakefield said, the culture needed to change. \"In order for (management) to take different actions, we need them to have different beliefs,\" he said.

If the proof of the success is measured in numbers, things are looking pretty good at USA Truck. In the prior 12 months, its stock is up about 165%. (By comparison, the 52-week performance of some other truckload carriers as of Thursday looks like this: Werner (NASDAQ: WERN), up 7.5%; Heartland (NASDAQ:HTLD), down 16.8%; Marten (NASDAQ:MRTN), down 3.2%.

The company's first-quarter operating ratio was 95.8% in its trucking operations. A year ago, it was 101.5%, though it should be noted that most companies had improved ORs in the first quarter compared to the prior year. But the OR was also better than the 97.2% of the first quarter of 2019.

Where Workhound came into what Wakefield said was the goal of \"delivering a new experience for drivers\" is that its feedback formed the basis of a culture change. USA Truck regularly looked to what Wakefield called \"weekly feedback prompts\" from the comments made by USA Truck drivers submitted through the Workhound app. And beyond that, he said, \"Workhound held us accountable, asking us, ‘Are you taking action on the feedback?'\"

Still, all the culture change in the world wouldn't have mattered if pay had not kept up with the rising levels at trucking companies and other competitors for talent. But it was the feedback it was getting from drivers that led USA Truck to not simply chase higher rates as a route to retention, a path it had not seen work in the past.

\"We start every meeting with our cultural beliefs, our safety values and then our culture statements,\" he said. \"We drive it through the entire organization.\"

Employees have been \"empowered to feel like they could actually give feedback and have the managers actually listen and take action,\" he added.

Even Wakefield knows that such talk can be heard anywhere. But beyond the financial results, he pointed to another result of the changes at the company: USA Truck is in the middle of its longest streak of net hires in 19 years.

Given that success hasn't come just on the back of a series of higher pay levels, as at some companies, it comes back to a conclusion that Wakefield said they had reached at USA Truck.

\"Rate per mile doesn't define what a weekly paycheck looks like,\" he said. \"It's the number of miles you get.\"

The feedback also confirmed what has long been known but is a tough nut to crack: Drivers — at least some of them — like to be home at night.

Wakefield said in response to that desire, USA Truck created what he called a \"brand new shuttle program.\" It involved having drivers far more regularly utilize terminals as \"pickup points\" where a driver seeking to get home could swap out a load with another driver seeking the same thing, or on to an OTR driver who is spending more hours on the road.

Much of the feedback fell under what might be considered a broad category: \"Injustices and things they really wish they had in their job,\" Wakefield said.

He expressed confidence that responding to that toxic combination has \"shut the door, because they are not leaving for other jobs. We have the types of jobs they want and they are getting bigger paychecks.\"

\"We keep our drivers moving, and they are getting more miles,\" Wakefield said. \"We get drivers home who want to be home.\"

Wakefield said about 22% of the company's drivers are getting home each night, up from a percentage that was essentially zero.

There are other steps the company has taken on what would be considered compensation. Paid holidays that had been granted to office workers now are given to drivers as well. \"We had drivers who complained that we don't like how PTO is paid out,\" Wakefield said. \"We dug into it and came up with a better solution and ran it by the drivers.\"

He said USA Truck had been \"shooting\" to get its turnover closer to the turnover rate published by the American Trucking Associations, which for the last three months of 2020 put it at 92% for fleets with more than $30 million in annual revenue, unchanged from the prior quarter.

The new pay scale at USA Truck raised the per-mile rate by 10 cents for new drivers, and the pay scales for longer-tenured drivers key off that number. \"We eliminated the bonuses, we eliminated the pay bands, and we just came up with a good rate per mile,\" Wakefield said. The analysis led them to conclude \"that is probably the best thing for us and for the drivers.\"
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
USA Truck: Stock Surge, Improved OR, Lower Turnover And Just 1 Pay Hike
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nUSA Truck: Stock Surge, Improved OR, Lower Turnover And Just 1 Pay Hike\n
\n\n
\n\n\n<div class=\"head\" \">\n\n\n

\n\n
\n
Benzinga
\n
2021-05-28 22:30
\n
\n\n
\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
USA Truck (NASDAQ:USAK) implemented a pay increase for its drivers earlier this month.

That normally isn't a big deal. Companies have been doing that since late last summer. What was notable about USA Truck, one of the country's largest truckload carriers and publicly traded to boot, is that it was the company's first increase in pay since 2018, while other companies have implemented multiple recent increases. And yet USA Truck says it has managed to cut its turnover rate by 50%.That's according to Nick Wakefield, the vice president of driver recruiting and retention at USA Truck. FreightWaves interviewed Wakefield following a joint announcement between USA Truck and WorkHound, whose app seeks to provide trucking companies with close-to-real-time feedback from drivers. In that announcement, USA Truck credited its partnership with WorkHound as a key reason for the decline in turnover.\"Using WorkHound really helped inform us of what the current-right-now experience is, so we can engage in that experience, change it, and lead to a different result,\" Wakefield said in the joint announcement. The success story USA Truck is telling about its retention efforts suggests two things. One, increasing pay is not necessarily the end-all in retention. Two, feedback only has value if it's acted upon.\"Back in June of last year, we had recognized as a leadership team that in order for us to achieve the key results of the business we wanted, we had to do something different,\" Wakefield told FreightWaves. \"Mid-COVID, we said let's put a pause on what we are doing. We are doing the same things and not producing different results, the definition of insanity.\"To get the results it sought, Wakefield said, the culture needed to change. \"In order for (management) to take different actions, we need them to have different beliefs,\" he said.If the proof of the success is measured in numbers, things are looking pretty good at USA Truck. In the prior 12 months, its stock is up about 165%. (By comparison, the 52-week performance of some other truckload carriers as of Thursday looks like this: Werner (NASDAQ: WERN), up 7.5%; Heartland (NASDAQ:HTLD), down 16.8%; Marten (NASDAQ:MRTN), down 3.2%.The company's first-quarter operating ratio was 95.8% in its trucking operations. A year ago, it was 101.5%, though it should be noted that most companies had improved ORs in the first quarter compared to the prior year. But the OR was also better than the 97.2% of the first quarter of 2019.Where Workhound came into what Wakefield said was the goal of \"delivering a new experience for drivers\" is that its feedback formed the basis of a culture change. USA Truck regularly looked to what Wakefield called \"weekly feedback prompts\" from the comments made by USA Truck drivers submitted through the Workhound app. And beyond that, he said, \"Workhound held us accountable, asking us, ‘Are you taking action on the feedback?'\"Still, all the culture change in the world wouldn't have mattered if pay had not kept up with the rising levels at trucking companies and other competitors for talent. But it was the feedback it was getting from drivers that led USA Truck to not simply chase higher rates as a route to retention, a path it had not seen work in the past.\"We start every meeting with our cultural beliefs, our safety values and then our culture statements,\" he said. \"We drive it through the entire organization.\"Employees have been \"empowered to feel like they could actually give feedback and have the managers actually listen and take action,\" he added.Even Wakefield knows that such talk can be heard anywhere. But beyond the financial results, he pointed to another result of the changes at the company: USA Truck is in the middle of its longest streak of net hires in 19 years.Given that success hasn't come just on the back of a series of higher pay levels, as at some companies, it comes back to a conclusion that Wakefield said they had reached at USA Truck.\"Rate per mile doesn't define what a weekly paycheck looks like,\" he said. \"It's the number of miles you get.\"The feedback also confirmed what has long been known but is a tough nut to crack: Drivers — at least some of them — like to be home at night.Wakefield said in response to that desire, USA Truck created what he called a \"brand new shuttle program.\" It involved having drivers far more regularly utilize terminals as \"pickup points\" where a driver seeking to get home could swap out a load with another driver seeking the same thing, or on to an OTR driver who is spending more hours on the road.Much of the feedback fell under what might be considered a broad category: \"Injustices and things they really wish they had in their job,\" Wakefield said.He expressed confidence that responding to that toxic combination has \"shut the door, because they are not leaving for other jobs. Since February, the big data play, andRedditfavorite, has slid significantly from its highs. But,thanks to a strong earnings report, and a possible investment of company funds intoBitcoin(CCC:BTC-USD), shares have bounced back, after briefly falling below the $20 per share mark.
\n
In the near-term, this could continue. Shorts who bet against the stock at higher prices may be looking to cover their positions.
\n
Those who missed out on the stock’s first epic rally may be tempted to jump in before it possibly takes off again.
\n
But while we may see an additional near-term boost, don’t count on a continued rebound back to $30 per share, much less its $45 per share all-time highs. Why? Sure, with its impressive sales growth in the preceding quarter, for now this remains a growth story. But with this growth more than reflected in its valuation, Palantir continues to trade at prices that overestimate its long-term potential.
\n
Worse yet is the specter of growth stocks like this correcting, an uncertainty that looms over the markets. As this continues to play a bigger role in price action, shares have already slid back below $20 per share asthe market has absorbedthe recent positive company-specific news.
\n
PLTR Stock: Despite Strong Results, The Story Hasn’t Changed Much
\n
How solid were this company’s recent results? After posting 49% revenue growth and topping estimates, the company now has something to counter the pessimism that’s been weighing down the stock since February. Along with earnings, the company also released guidance for the current quarter.
\n
Again, these numbers came in ahead of analyst consensus. The results and guidance are certainly a positive for PLTR stock.
\n
But it’s important not to get too excited about this news. By and large, the story hasn’t changed much for Palantir. Growth this year and the next may remain strong. Analysts numbers point to34.1% revenue growth this year, and 30.7% revenue growth in 2022. But it’s questionable if it’ll continue to the extent still being priced into shares.
\n
As I discussed in my last article on the stock, we may see itsgovernmental business stall out sooner than expected. It’s possible growth in the commercial sector has been used to bolster the case that it can remain in “growth mode” much longer than the bears anticipate.
\n
But, again, it’s uncertain this will be the case either. Even if it does continue its high levels of growth, that’s far from a guarantee of solid stock price performance going forward.
\n
With growth stocks at risk of correcting further, the temporary pop we’ve seen in this stock in recent days could revert back to its prior downwards trajectory.
\n
Palantir’s Still Vulnerable if Growth Stocks Continue to Correct
\n
At today’s prices, PLTR stock trades for a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 144.9x, and a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 18.1x. For the past year, investors have accepted the new normal of growth stories commanding such premium valuations. A near-zero interest rate environment has helped to keep this going. But even after the pullback in growth stocks since February, more declines may be just around the corner.
\n
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has walked back comments aboutpossible interest rate increases. But it was enough to start giving the markets a scare. This is clear from the performance of growth-oriented indices like theNASDAQ 100— as measure by theInvesco QQQ Trust(NASDAQ:QQQ) — since the start of May.
\n
With concerns about inflation and an overheated economy, investors have good reason to anticipate rising rates.
