the U.S. jobs picture, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
\n
First-time filings for the week ended Nov. 27 totaled 222,000, less than the 240,000 Wall Street expected. That was higher than the 194,000 from the previous week, but that total, the lowest since 1969, was revised even lower from the initial 1999,000 reported.
\n
The totals are the product of heavy seasonal adjustments, though the unadjusted number was actually lower, at 211,896.
\n
Stocks making the biggest moves premarket:
\n
Grab — Grab stock jumped 13% in premarket trading.Grab, Southeast Asia's biggest ride-hailing and food delivery firm, lists on Nasdaq on Thursday following its $40 billion merger with special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Altimeter Growth Corp.
\n
Snowflake — The cloud data company's shares jumped more than 13.8% after the company reported quarterly results that beat revenue estimates. Snowflake also reported sales of $334 million during the third quarter, which exceeded the $306 million expected by analysts surveyed by Refinitiv.
\n
Apple — Shares of Apple fell 2.5% after the company told some of its suppliers there could be slowing demand for iPhone 13 models, according to a report by Bloomberg. It previously expected the reduction in its initial production goal to be made up in 2022 but said that may not materialize now.
\n
Boeing— Shares of the aircraft maker rose 5.5% after Bloomberg reported it’s in talks with the new owners of previously bankrupt Jet Airways about bringing its fleet of 11 planes to more than 100 in five years. Jet Airways made an order for 225 of Boeing’s 737 Max aircraft that it could revisit, a deal which would be worth more than $12 billion, according to the report.
\n
Signet Jewelers — Shares of Signet Jewelers gained about 1.1% in the premarket after the company posted a better-than-expected earnings report. Signet notched a profit of $1.43 per share, 71 cents higher than the Refinitiv consensus estimate. Revenue also came in higher than projected. Signet raised its fiscal 2022 guidance.
\n
Five Below — The retailer’s shares gained more than 11% after reporting quarterly results that beat on both earnings and revenue. It also reported an increase in comparable-store sales of 14.8%, smashing the estimates of 5.3%, according to Refinitiv.
\n
Okta — Shares of the identity company added 3.5% following the company’s quarterly results. Okta brought in a quarterly loss of 7 cents per share, which is narrower than the 24 cents per share loss estimated by analysts. It also beat revenue estimates and issued fourth-quarter guidance above estimates.
\n
Lands’ End — Lands’ End saw its shares sink more than 18% in early morning trading after reporting lower-than-expected third-quarter revenue. The apparel retailer posted revenue of $375.8 million versus the StreetAccount consensus estimate of $398 million. Lands’ End earned 22 cents per share, in line with projections. In the past 52 weeks, WMT stock has gained a slight 0.35%. The tepid growth has frustrated Walmart shareholders who have had to watch while rival retail stocks have risen more than 50% this year.
\n
A strong third-quarter report from Walmart could give the share price a much needed boost.Wall Street is looking for the company to report earnings per share (EPS) of $1.40 on revenues of $135.52 billion. The median price target on the stock, among 19 analysts who cover Walmart, is $170, which is 15% higher than its current level.
\n
Home Depot (HD)
\n
Also reporting Q3 results next week is home improvement retailer Home Depot. The Atlanta-headquartered company has seemingly had it both ways during the pandemic. The company performed well during Covid-19 lockdowns as people focused on fixing up their homes, and has continued to perform well this year as the economic recovery accelerated.
\n
Year-to-date, HD stock is up nearly 40% at $367.55 per share. And despite the bull run, Home Depot’s share price has continued to trend upward, rising nearly 10% since the start of October. The company is no doubt looking to finish the year strong and keep the momentum in its stock going with its third-quarter results.
\n
Analysts are forecasting that Home Depot will report EPS of $3.36 on revenues of $34.69 billion for Q3. This would be after the company reported that its sales in this year’s second quarter increased 8.1% from a year ago to $41 billion, the first time in the company’s history that its quarterly sales surpassed $40 billion.
\n
With home prices continuing to rise in the U.S.,up 20% in August this year from the same month of 2020 according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, homeowners seem content to continue taking equity out of their domicile and spending it to improve its value, which benefits Home Depot.
\n
La-Z-Boy (LZB)
\n
Furniture manufacturer La-Z-Boy, which is known for its signature brand of upholstered recliners, reports earnings next week as it shares finally breakout after being down for most of this year.
\n
Over the last month, LZB stock has gained 12% and now trades at $11.43 a share. However, even with that strong performance, the stock remains down 7% on the year. Strong third-quarter results heading into the holidays could accelerate the growth of La-Z-Boy’s stock.
\n
Analysts expect the company to announce Q3 EPS of 73 cents on revenues of $540 million. La-Z-Boy has outperformed Wall Street’s earnings expectations in the four previous quarters. Overall, La-Z-Boy has grown its revenues by 9.5% and grown its net income by 32.3% since 2018. The furniture retailer is also praised for having a clean balance sheet with $391.21 million in cash on hand and $362.64 million in total debt.
\n
Analysts will be watching La-Z-Boy to see if global supply constraints have materially impacted its business or will do so going forward.
\n
Lowe’s (LOW)
\n
Lowe’s, the home improvement retailer and main rival of Home Depot, also reports next week. And, as with Home Depot, Lowe’s stock has been a strong outperformer this year, up a total of 45% to $232.76 a share.
\n
The rally in LOW stock has gathered steam in recent weeks, with the share price climbing 11% over the last month. The stellar stock performance has been propelled by exceptional sales that reached a record $27.6 billion in Lowe’s previous quarterly report.
\n
Equally impressive is the fact that Lowe’s says it now generates 25% of its revenues from professionals such as contractors, electricians and plumbers. It is those professionals that are highly coveted by both Lowe’s and Home Depot as consistent repeat customers.
\n
In an effort to attract even more professional customers and keep its sales in record territory, Lowe’s has beendesigning more intuitive store layouts based on helping contractors and other trades find everything they need for a specific job without having to search the entire store.
\n
Additionally, the company has moved its website “Lowe’s for Pros” to the cloud, which enabled the company to add enhanced features, faster updates, and provide more personalized offers to those highly sought after professionals.Analysts have forecast that Lowe’s will announce EPS of $2.31 on revenues of $21.77 billion for its most recent quarter.
\n
Target (TGT)
\n
Target has been yet another top performer among retail stocks, up 44% so far in 2021 and up 60% in the last 52-weeks. At $256.26. TGT stock has run uninterrupted all year.
\n
However, some analysts are raising concerns that the rally could be running out of steam. When Goldman Sachs added Walmart to its conviction list in October, the investment bank removed Target, stating that is expects slower growth from the Minneapolis-based company next year that is more inline with its historic performance. Target will be looking to prove the naysayers wrong when it announces its Q3 results.
\n
Much of Target’s turnaround over the past few years is attributed to CEOBrian Cornell, who took over in 2014 as the company was dealing with a data breach that exposed the debit and credit card information of 40 million customers and its expansion into Canada was failing and dragging on the bottom line.
\n
Cornell made the decision to exit Canada and has since invested heavily in e-commerce and brand name apparel. The moves proved to be the right ones judging by TGT stock, which is up 236% over the past five years. For next week’s earnings,Wall Street is anticipating EPS of $2.81 on revenues of $24.59 billion.
\n
Macy’s (M)
\n
Macy’s has not only been a top-performing retail stock, it has been one of the best performing of all stocks this year. Since January, Macy’s share price has increased 175% to its current level of $30.89. In the last month alone, M stock has gained 36%. The company has left its competitors in the dust as its shares continue rising higher and higher.
\n
Macy’s now has a market capitalization approaching $10 billion. The incredible growth is due to a strong e-commerce strategy that has propelled shares higher. Although some analysts have claimed that Macy’s share price appreciation is due to it being treated as a meme stock by retail investors.
\n
Founded in 1858, Macy’s today operates more than nearly 800 stores under the Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury brands. The company has recently been targeted by activist group Jana Partners, which is trying to force Macy’s to spin-off its successful and lucrative e-commerce business, which Jana Partners has estimated could be worth $15 billion.
\n
The reaction to Jana Partners efforts has been largely negative and it looks as though Macy’s will control its own destiny when it comes to its e-commerce platform. For its latest earnings, analysts forecast Macy’s will report EPS of $0.29 on revenues of $5.18 billion.
\n
Foot Locker (FL)
\n
New York-based footwear and apparel retailer Foot Locker’s latest earnings report comes as its stock has risen 15% in the last month, bringing year-to-date gains to 37%. At $53.86 a share, FL stock is now up nearly 50% in the past 52-weeks.
\n
The company just announced that it is launching a brand new apparel line called “LCKR” that is focused on casual wear such as pullover hoodies and sweatpants. Foot Locker enlisted popular rapper Gunna to be the face of its newest brand, which officially launched Oct. 20 and should help boost sales heading into the New Year.
\n
The company also recently completed a $360 million acquisition of Japanese retailer Atmos, which sells premium sneakers and apparel at 49 stores around the world, including 39 in Japan. The deal helps to expand Foot Locker globally as the company seeks growth opportunities outside its American home market.
\n
Analysts have praised Foot Locker for its recent moves aimed at expanding its brand and operations. The panel also highlighted the rise of thematic investing, including several themes that have come to the fore, such as cybersecurity, biotech and environmental, social and governance (ESG), but emphasized that investor education remains critical to healthy markets.
\n
“The global investment community has pivoted to a digital world during the pandemic,”Lauren Dillard, Head of Investment Intelligence at Nasdaq, said during Nasdaq’s recent Virtual Cabana Poolside Chat. “Since much of the workforce transitioned to a remote environment, everything from investment strategies to investor engagement was impacted. Client engagement needs to be meaningful, and insights have to be actionable and consumable to deliver on investment thesis.”
\n
During the virtual event, a panel comprised of Dillard, John Molesphini, Global Head of Insights ateVestment, a Nasdaq platform, and Dave Nadig, CIO and Director of Research at ETF Trends, and moderated by Tom Lydon, CEO ofETF Trends, discussed how the financial services industry is embracing digitalization while recognizing the need for humanization to establish meaningful partnerships.
\n
“It’s the firms relying on all the data in this digital world, but still managing to have the client connection, that are going to be best suited to take advantage of what’s to come and what we’ve experienced in the last 12 months,” said Molesphini. “It’s having an internal infrastructure in place to take advantage of the data when it’s available and having the distribution network. This will allow you to communicate more effectively with clients or adjust distribution network based on some of the trends you see.”
\n
As many firms rapidly accelerated their digitalization efforts amid the pandemic, several investment themes also benefitted, notably cyber, cloud and biotech, Dillard argued. She also highlighted the rise in energy transition, the growing need to strengthen domestic infrastructure and the performance of the Nasdaq-100 Index.
\n
“The Nasdaq-100 companies represent the modern industrial way we are all living,” said Dillard. “We are seeing demand around the globe, further heightened during the pandemic. In 2020, over $23 billion of net inflows into NDX ETF products, highlighting the strength of Nasdaq-100 companies.”
\n
Beyond these themes, Dillard and the other panelists spoke about the emergence of ESG in mainstream investment strategies.
\n
“The industry come to recognize the fundamental differences between environmental, social, and governance criteria. They fit in portfolios in very different ways and give investors different exposure,” Dillard said. “But we finally see an understanding that ESG doesn’t just mean clean energy; it also doesn’t just mean gender diversity. The level of sophistication among the investing community around ESG has accelerated.”
\n
Because ESG is top of mind for many investors, Molesphini emphasized that when talking to clients and prospects, “you’re not just pitching them a product, you’re pitching them your firm.”
\n
“We found that the best way to have an effective discussion on ESG is to approach the topic with an outcome oriented thinking,” Dillard added. “What are you trying to achieve, and what are your clients asking you around whether it’s E or it’s S, or it’s G.”
\n
Molesphini also stressed the importance of communicating and engaging with clients, especially in a rapidly changing market environment, not only regarding ESG but also with new products and market conditions.
\n
“We had market volatility and market trends that were taking place before the virus—low-interest rates and people looking to diversify, looking at alternative asset classes, looking at more thematic investing,” said Molesphini. “You can see that with some of our ETF providers bringing more product into the market. Then, on top of the investment themes going on, you have the virus, [and you have to] engage with the clients and educate them on what’s going on, but also keep them comfortable in this environment.”
\n
ETF Trends’ Nadig reflected upon his recent experiences with financial advisors, noting that they “talk about wanting to have fewer, better relationships,” and many have adopted new technologies.
\n
“Most [advisors] report that their relationships with their clients have gotten better through all of this. They’ve had more frequent contact, more meaningful contact,” said Nadig.
\n
“I would argue that to some degree there’s a humanization element that has happened as a result of this, which can deepen partnerships. I definitely believe that the idea of those fewer, deeper partnerships has resonated,” noted Dillard.
\n
“Portfolios are getting really complex,” Dillard said. “All of that ties back to more education and working with the right partners. It also means to listen to our clients and understand what investors they are trying to target because I can promise you the one that wants fixed income type products is probably not the same as the one that wants a crypto product.”
","source":"lsy1603171495471","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
As the Financial Services Industry Goes Digital, Thematic Investing Trends Come to the Fore
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nAs the Financial Services Industry Goes Digital, Thematic Investing Trends Come to the Fore\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-12 09:49 GMT+8 Nasdaq\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
At a recent virtual event hosted by Nasdaq, ETF industry experts discussed how firms are embracing the digital revolution accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic, adopting new technologies and ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/as-the-financial-services-industry-goes-digital-thematic-investing-trends-come-to-the-fore","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1112019535","content_text":"At a recent virtual event hosted by Nasdaq, ETF industry experts discussed how firms are embracing the digital revolution accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic, adopting new technologies and leveraging market data in new ways to connect with clients. That’s because all these companies are essentially subscription-based companies with very, very loyal customer followings and an absolutely market-dominant position,” Schlossberg told CNBC’s “Trading Nation” on Friday.\nSchlossberg elaborated that Amazon is a “blue chip of a lifetime” with a deep moat in retail, while Adobe is a “fortress-like business” with its software portfolio.\nZoom, however, could still have more downside, though Schlossberg said it is still a clear winner given how widely it has been adopted during the coronavirus pandemic.\n“Zoom, I think, has established a major beachhead. That having been said, it’s the biggest stock risk at this point. It easily could come in 100 more points to the downside, and still be relatively highly valued,” he said.\nCraig Johnson, chief market technician at Piper Sandler, is not surprised by recent weakness in these names. He said a lot of the high-momentum, high-growth stocks have been consolidating in a sideways pattern since late summer.\n“Take Amazon as an example here. It moved sideways in this consolidation range, roughly about a 500-point consolidation range, but it has been an underperformer. Now, you could say that the stock is resting or maybe we need to see a deeper correction,” Johnson said during the same interview.\n\nHe said Amazon needs to hold support at the lower end of its range at roughly $3,000. If it fails to do so, its next support comes in at $2,500. It traded at roughly $3,040 on Monday.\nAdobe and Zoom, meanwhile, look to be in a downward-trending price channel, he said. Adobe could fall to $425 and then, if breached, likely down to $385, he said – it was trading at $439 on Monday. Zoom, too, could drop to $235 from its $332.\n\n\n“I think it’s probably going to be challenging over the next couple months until we finally get a deeper washout in these tech stocks and, frankly, I think it’s a bit overdue,” said Johnson.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":62,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":872709507,"gmtCreate":1637569241530,"gmtModify":1637569241695,"author":{"id":"3575020360100013","authorId":"3575020360100013","name":"5c314778","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575020360100013","authorIdStr":"3575020360100013"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/872709507","repostId":"1153786917","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1153786917","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1637534687,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1153786917?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-22 06:44","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Best Buy, Zoom, Pinduoduo, Xpeng,Xiaomi,Meituan and Other Stocks for Investors to Watch This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1153786917","media":"Barrons","summary":"The tail end of third-quarter earnings season will bring more results from major retailers next week","content":"
The tail end of third-quarter earnings season will bring more results from major retailers next week, just as shoppers prepare for Black Friday. The S&P 500 declined 0.4% to 4,192.85 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1% to 13,614.51.The benchmark S&P 500 sits about 1% from its all-time high reached earlier last month, but it has been stuck around these levels for about the last two weeks. The S&P 500 is up more than 11% this year so far.Merck and Dow Inc. were the two best performers in the 30-stock benchmark, both rising more than 2%. Consumer staples and utilities were the biggest gainers among 11 S&P 500 sectors, while consumer discretionary and tech weighed on the broader market, falling 1.2% and 0.9%, respectively.Shares of General Motors climbed nearly 6.4% after the company said it expects its results for the first half of 2021 to be “significantly better” than its prior guidance.On the data front, private job growth for May accelerated at its fastest pace in nearly a year as companies hired nearly a million workers, according to a report Thursday from payroll processing firm ADP.Total hires came to 978,000 for the month, a big jump from April’s 654,000 and the largest gain since June 2020. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 680,000.Meanwhile,first-time claims for unemployment benefitsfor the week ended May 29 totaled 385,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 393,000. It also marked the first time that jobless claims fell below 400,000 since the early days of the pandemic.“With ADP knocking it out of the park, and jobless claims breaking that 400k barrier—a pandemic low—all eyes will be on the larger jobs picture tomorrow,” said Mike Loewengart, a managing director at E-Trade. “With seemingly all systems go on the jobs front, the economy is flashing some very real signs that this isn’t just a comeback—expansion mode could be on the horizon.”The market may be on hold before the release of the jobs report Friday, which is likely to show an additional 671,000 nonfarm payrolls in May, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. The economy added 266,000 jobs in April.Investors continued to monitor the wild action in meme stocks, particularly theater chain AMC Entertainment. The stock tumbled as much as 30% after practically doubling in the prior session, but shares cut losses after movie theater chain said it completed a stock offering launched just hours ago,raising $587 million.The stock ended the day about 18% lower.Other meme stocks also came under pressure Thursday. Bed Bath & Beyond fell more than 27%. The SoFi Social 50 ETF (SFYF), which tracks the top 50 most widely held U.S. listed stocks on SoFi’s retail brokerage platform, tumbled more than 6%.Reminiscent of what occurred earlier this year, retail traders rallying together on Reddit triggered a short squeeze in AMC earlier this week. On Wednesday, short-sellers betting against the stock lost $2.8 billion as the shares surged, according to S3 Partners. That brings their year-to-date losses to more than $5 billion, according to S3. Short sellers are forced to buy back the stock to cut their losses when it keeps rallying like this.The meme stock bubble in GameStop earlier this year weighed on the market a bit as investors worried it meant too much speculative activity was in the stock market. As losses in hedge funds betting against the stock mounted, worries increased about a pullback in risk-taking across Wall Street that could hit the overall market. AMC’s latest surge did not appear to be causing similar concerns so far.Here are company's financial statementsSlack tops Q1 expectations, ends quarter with 169,000 total paid customersLululemon first-quarter sales rise 88%, topping estimates, as store traffic reboundsCrowdStrike stock rises as earnings, outlook top Street viewDocuSign stock pops on earnings, outlook beat","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":130,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":329478083,"gmtCreate":1615275796342,"gmtModify":1703486593631,"author":{"id":"3575020360100013","authorId":"3575020360100013","name":"5c314778","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575020360100013","authorIdStr":"3575020360100013"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls help to comment","listText":"Pls help to comment","text":"Pls help to comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/329478083","repostId":"1130850551","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":66,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
