The company has a bright future, but investors looking for any value in&nbsp;electric vehicle stocks&nbsp;should probably look elsewhere right now.</p>\n<p>Three of our Fool.com contributors ,Travis Hoium, Howard Smith, and Daniel Foelber think&nbsp;<b>General Motors</b>(NYSE:GM),<b>ChargePoint Holdings</b>(NYSE:CHPT), and&nbsp;<b>Lucid Group</b>(NASDAQ:LCID)&nbsp;are all better buys than Rivian today.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/38583e5ca55657c01e76a6eb4bab1782\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1331\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.</span></p>\n<p><b>The leader in autonomous driving</b></p>\n<p><b>Travis Hoium(General Motors):</b>As companies like Rivian get all the headlines in electric vehicles, General Motors is quietly building out the technology and manufacturing capacity totransition entirely to electric vehicles by 2035. That includes 30 EV models that will launch globally by 2025, including cars, trucks, and SUVs.</p>\n<p>But it isn't GM's EV capacity that makes it a better buy than Rivian, it's the company's majority ownership of Cruise, the autonomous ride-sharing company, that provides the most upside. GM is providing Cruise with design and manufacturing capabilities to build autonomous vehicles like the Cruise Origin (shown above), a self-driving shuttle for ride-sharing developed in a partnership between Cruise, GM, and&nbsp;<b>Honda</b>. Cruise is developing autonomous driving hardware and software that go into Origin and eventually a ride-sharing business. GM is also providing funding to build out Cruise's vehicle infrastructure, which could cost many billions of dollars, starting with a $5 billion line of credit to buy Cruise Origins.</p>\n<p>In time, autonomous vehicles could reduce the cost of traveling in cities and even make vehicle ownership obsolete. Cruise is leading the way into this market, and that provides tremendous upside for GM. This may be an old company in the auto industry, but it's making great strategic moves to be a leader in the future of electric and autonomous vehicles.</p>\n<p><b>Picks and shovels</b></p>\n<p><b>Howard Smith(ChargePoint Holdings)</b>:Rivian's public debut&nbsp;generated a lot of excitement for good reason. The company has big backers and reportedly a backlog of orders for both fleets and consumer electric vehicles (EVs). But investors have seen plenty of examples where initial excitement causes a spike in valuation that doesn't always last.</p>\n<p>Another exciting recent event for EV investors was the passage of a federal infrastructure bill that will push $7.5 billion to help build out the charging infrastructure needed for this country to expand EV ownership. ChargePoint Holdings is the leader in that space with more than 118,000 charging ports, including more than 3,700 DC fast chargers. The vast majority of those stations are in the U.S., though the company is also growing its business in Europe where it already has 5,400 charging locations.</p>\n<p>Those federal infrastructure funds will be sent to states that will issue grants to the charging network companies, which will make up the country's network. And that should be a big shot in the arm for ChargePoint as the largest operator in the country. Even prior to the realization of that catalyst, ChargePoint was growing its business beyond what it had predicted before its public debut.</p>\n<p>The company recorded $146 million in revenue&nbsp;for its full fiscal year 2021 that ended Jan. 31, 2021. In its most recently reported quarter ended July 31, 2021, it raised its revenue guidance for its current fiscal year by 15% to a range of $225 million to $235 million. At the midpoint, that would represent annual revenue growth of 57.5%, even without the added catalyst of federal funds.</p>\n<p>ChargePoint generated its own excitement when it announced it would begin trading publicly last year. The stock is almost 50% off the peak price reached at the end of Dec. 2020 prior to the closing of its merger with the&nbsp;special purpose acquisition company (SPAC)&nbsp;that brought it public. It wouldn't be surprising to see Rivian's stock fluctuate as well. But for Rivian -- and all the other EV makers -- to be successful, there will need to be charging infrastructure in place. That makes ChargePoint a \"picks and shovels\" type of investment for the rapidly growing EV sector. That could make it a better investment today than adding to Rivian's early hype.</p>\n<p><b>Lucid is proving it can compete against the best in the business</b></p>\n<p><b>Daniel Foelber(Lucid Group):</b>Rivian's roughly $120 billion market capitalization is raising eyebrows considering the company is relatively unproven. Similarly, Lucid Motors has received its fair share of criticism for sporting a $65 billion market cap just over a month into the&nbsp;mass production of its Lucid Air Dream Edition luxury sedan.</p>\n<p>Rivian and Lucid are pricey, and it's hard to say which is the better value now. Rivian has received backing from&nbsp;<b>Amazon</b>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<b>Ford</b>&nbsp;as it targets the higher-end electric lifestyle truck and electric delivery van markets. Similar to&nbsp;<b>Tesla</b>(NASDAQ:TSLA), the company is bypassing the dealership framework of traditional automakers by&nbsp;marketing directly to consumers. Rivian also plans to build its own charging network to make electricity more accessible in remote places where a core part of its outdoor-focused target demographic requires the ability to charge. By comparison,Lucid doesn't feel the need to invest in its own charging network, choosing instead to save money by partnering with the growing list of third-party charging providers.</p>\n<p>Rivian has already faced delivery delays due to the global chip shortage. By comparison, Lucid has quickly built a&nbsp;reputation for delivering on its promises, having hit all of its major 2021 goals on time. Lucid also has an excellent management team and plenty of cash to fund its 2022 operations.</p>\n<p>Arguably the best reason&nbsp;why there's never been a better time to buy Lucid stock&nbsp;is that the company has achieved incredible engineering feats that&nbsp;rival Tesla-- the undisputed champ in the EV industry. Packing in more battery cells can help improve performance, but Lucid isn't doing that. Instead, it has built a&nbsp;compact battery pack&nbsp;that sports a battery efficiency of 4.5 miles per kilowatt-hour (mi/kWh) of stored energy, which is higher than the Tesla Model S, Jaguar I-Pace, Porsche Taycan, and other competitors. Lucid management believes that battery efficiency is the key differentiating factor, not just higher horsepower and range. With the Lucid Air Dream Edition and Grand Touring, it has outdone the competition in both efficiency ratings and performance -- albeit for a high price tag.</p>\n<p>Rivian supporters would argue that not only does Rivian have a nice head start in the lifestyle EV pickup truck market, but it's also going to be a relatively insulated market because seasoned automakers like Ford and GM are only challenging the standard pickup truck market (for now). By comparison, Lucid plans to roll out lower prices trims of its sedan that would have to compete against expensive but much more \"affordable\" luxury sedan leaders. In doing so, it plans to lower the horsepower and range of its cars, which would bridge the gap between its advantages and the competition. However, what gives Lucid the edge over Rivian is that it has proven it can go toe-to-toe with the best in the business, hit its targets, and has plans to&nbsp;grow quickly in 2022 and beyond.</p>\n<p>Given that the growth trajectory is mapped out, Lucid has a clear path toward even greater success. However, investors should be aware that Lucid stock is likely to remain extremely volatile as the company works toward scaling production.</p>\n<p><b>EVs are here to stay</b></p>\n<p>What we all agree on is that electric vehicles are here to stay. They're now competitive with fossil fuel vehicles in range, costs are coming down, and the innovative companies making EVs are enabling autonomy as well. The company has a bright future, but investors looking for any value in electric vehicle stocks should probably look elsewhere right now.\nThree of our Fool.com contributors ,Travis Hoium, Howard Smith, and Daniel Foelber think General Motors(NYSE:GM),ChargePoint Holdings(NYSE:CHPT), and Lucid Group(NASDAQ:LCID) are all better buys than Rivian today.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nThe leader in autonomous driving\nTravis Hoium(General Motors):As companies like Rivian get all the headlines in electric vehicles, General Motors is quietly building out the technology and manufacturing capacity totransition entirely to electric vehicles by 2035. That includes 30 EV models that will launch globally by 2025, including cars, trucks, and SUVs.\nBut it isn't GM's EV capacity that makes it a better buy than Rivian, it's the company's majority ownership of Cruise, the autonomous ride-sharing company, that provides the most upside. GM is providing Cruise with design and manufacturing capabilities to build autonomous vehicles like the Cruise Origin (shown above), a self-driving shuttle for ride-sharing developed in a partnership between Cruise, GM, and Honda. Cruise is developing autonomous driving hardware and software that go into Origin and eventually a ride-sharing business. GM is also providing funding to build out Cruise's vehicle infrastructure, which could cost many billions of dollars, starting with a $5 billion line of credit to buy Cruise Origins.\nIn time, autonomous vehicles could reduce the cost of traveling in cities and even make vehicle ownership obsolete. Cruise is leading the way into this market, and that provides tremendous upside for GM. This may be an old company in the auto industry, but it's making great strategic moves to be a leader in the future of electric and autonomous vehicles.\nPicks and shovels\nHoward Smith(ChargePoint Holdings):Rivian's public debut generated a lot of excitement for good reason. The company has big backers and reportedly a backlog of orders for both fleets and consumer electric vehicles (EVs). But investors have seen plenty of examples where initial excitement causes a spike in valuation that doesn't always last.\nAnother exciting recent event for EV investors was the passage of a federal infrastructure bill that will push $7.5 billion to help build out the charging infrastructure needed for this country to expand EV ownership. ChargePoint Holdings is the leader in that space with more than 118,000 charging ports, including more than 3,700 DC fast chargers. The vast majority of those stations are in the U.S., though the company is also growing its business in Europe where it already has 5,400 charging locations.\nThose federal infrastructure funds will be sent to states that will issue grants to the charging network companies, which will make up the country's network. And that should be a big shot in the arm for ChargePoint as the largest operator in the country. Even prior to the realization of that catalyst, ChargePoint was growing its business beyond what it had predicted before its public debut.\nThe company recorded $146 million in revenue for its full fiscal year 2021 that ended Jan. 31, 2021. In its most recently reported quarter ended July 31, 2021, it raised its revenue guidance for its current fiscal year by 15% to a range of $225 million to $235 million. At the midpoint, that would represent annual revenue growth of 57.5%, even without the added catalyst of federal funds.\nChargePoint generated its own excitement when it announced it would begin trading publicly last year. The stock is almost 50% off the peak price reached at the end of Dec. 2020 prior to the closing of its merger with the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that brought it public. It wouldn't be surprising to see Rivian's stock fluctuate as well. But for Rivian -- and all the other EV makers -- to be successful, there will need to be charging infrastructure in place. That makes ChargePoint a \"picks and shovels\" type of investment for the rapidly growing EV sector. That could make it a better investment today than adding to Rivian's early hype.\nLucid is proving it can compete against the best in the business\nDaniel Foelber(Lucid Group):Rivian's roughly $120 billion market capitalization is raising eyebrows considering the company is relatively unproven. Similarly, Lucid Motors has received its fair share of criticism for sporting a $65 billion market cap just over a month into the mass production of its Lucid Air Dream Edition luxury sedan.\nRivian and Lucid are pricey, and it's hard to say which is the better value now. Rivian has received backing from Amazon and Ford as it targets the higher-end electric lifestyle truck and electric delivery van markets. Similar to Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA), the company is bypassing the dealership framework of traditional automakers by marketing directly to consumers. Rivian also plans to build its own charging network to make electricity more accessible in remote places where a core part of its outdoor-focused target demographic requires the ability to charge. By comparison,Lucid doesn't feel the need to invest in its own charging network, choosing instead to save money by partnering with the growing list of third-party charging providers.\nRivian has already faced delivery delays due to the global chip shortage. By comparison, Lucid has quickly built a reputation for delivering on its promises, having hit all of its major 2021 goals on time. Lucid also has an excellent management team and plenty of cash to fund its 2022 operations.\nArguably the best reason why there's never been a better time to buy Lucid stock is that the company has achieved incredible engineering feats that rival Tesla-- the undisputed champ in the EV industry. Packing in more battery cells can help improve performance, but Lucid isn't doing that. Instead, it has built a compact battery pack that sports a battery efficiency of 4.5 miles per kilowatt-hour (mi/kWh) of stored energy, which is higher than the Tesla Model S, Jaguar I-Pace, Porsche Taycan, and other competitors. Lucid management believes that battery efficiency is the key differentiating factor, not just higher horsepower and range. With the Lucid Air Dream Edition and Grand Touring, it has outdone the competition in both efficiency ratings and performance -- albeit for a high price tag.\nRivian supporters would argue that not only does Rivian have a nice head start in the lifestyle EV pickup truck market, but it's also going to be a relatively insulated market because seasoned automakers like Ford and GM are only challenging the standard pickup truck market (for now). By comparison, Lucid plans to roll out lower prices trims of its sedan that would have to compete against expensive but much more \"affordable\" luxury sedan leaders. In doing so, it plans to lower the horsepower and range of its cars, which would bridge the gap between its advantages and the competition. However, what gives Lucid the edge over Rivian is that it has proven it can go toe-to-toe with the best in the business, hit its targets, and has plans to grow quickly in 2022 and beyond.\nGiven that the growth trajectory is mapped out, Lucid has a clear path toward even greater success. However, investors should be aware that Lucid stock is likely to remain extremely volatile as the company works toward scaling production.\nEVs are here to stay\nWhat we all agree on is that electric vehicles are here to stay. They're now competitive with fossil fuel vehicles in range, costs are coming down, and the innovative companies making EVs are enabling autonomy as well. Yes, absolutely. But perhaps more importantly, Adobe was at the forefront of of a sales model in the tech industry that is now commonplace to the point of cliché: Software as a Service. In 2012 Adobe changed its business model from buy-release-upgrade for Acrobat, Photoshop and inDesign to one where users paid a subscription and as a result got consistent upgrades to the most recent versions. This was a revolutionary move, and not only has it worked out quite satisfactorily for Adobe and its shareholders, but for thousands of other tech and non-tech companies. It is in all ways a societally important company.</p>\n<p>With MANAMANA we capture an enormous swath of the American technology industry. With the addition of Adobe and Nvidia, this bellwether gains exposure to two segments of the technology that FANG, FAANG, FANAMA and MAMAA miss: creation and publication, and the power behind graphics processing units. These are massively important, growing segments of technology, and Nvidia and Adobe are without question the leaders.</p>\n<p>And ultimately that's the point of a bellwether -- to serve as a proxy to track something larger. Many laughed it off, as the electric-vehicle (EV) industry was still in its nascent stage, and Tesla had built just about 33,000 units of its only luxury sedan, the Model S, the previous year.</p>\n<p>On Oct. 25, Tesla bagged an order of 100,000 vehicles from one customer alone, days after it announced it had delivered a record 241,300 cars in just the third quarter.</p>\n<p>Tesla's growth reflects the potential in the global electric-vehicle market. From automakers to providers of batteries, charging infrastructure, and ancillary products and services, companies of all types and sizes are pumping billions of dollars into EVs, and many watching their stocks hit dizzying heights.</p>\n<p>The next decade could be a huge one, and while Tesla might seem a no-brainer, here are three other solid EV manufacturer stocks you could buy and hold for the next decade.</p>\n<h2>The most underrated yet promising EV stock</h2>\n<p>When you're talking about electric vehicles, you can't afford to ignore what's happening in China, the world's largest EV market. China wants 25% of its all new cars sold by 2025 to be electric. If you think that's an ambitious goal, consider that EVs already accounted for 12% of total car sales in the nation in the first half of 2021. One EV company that's already thriving in China is <b>BYD</b> (OTC:BYDDY).</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://g.foolcdn.com/image/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fg.foolcdn.com%2Feditorial%2Fimages%2F649494%2Fa-person-charging-an-electric-car.jpg&amp;w=700&amp;op=resize\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<p>In fact, I consider BYD to be one of the most underrated EV stocks, given its solid foothold in not just the commercial EV market but also the indispensable battery market. According to FT.com, BYD is:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>The second largest manufacturer of electric buses in the world.</li>\n <li>The fourth largest manufacturer of EVs in the world.</li>\n <li>Among the largest producers of lithium-ion EV batteries in China.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>It's hard to ignore these stunning facts. BYD makes hybrids, commercial vehicles, batteries, and monorail systems, and it also owns a semiconductor business that it plans to spin off. BYD's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales soared 276% year over year in September to hit record highs of nearly 70,000 units, and its NEV sales jumped almost 87% during the quarter ended Sept. 30. NEVs include battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel-cell EVs.</p>\n<p>In fact, BYD was China's leading NEV producer in September, with five of its models making it to the top 15 NEV list, according to CNBC.</p>\n<p>BYD plans to export cars, and it could potentially even become one of the largest battery companies in the world if it can bag some deals that are reportedly under negotiations. In industry reports are to be believed, BYD is planning to raise its battery prices by nearly 20% from November. The best part is that BYD is already profitable, and with Warren Buffett's <b>Berkshire Hathaway</b> also owning a stake in BYD, this one's a compelling EV stock for the long haul.</p>\n<h2>Don't underestimate this late mover's EV potential</h2>\n<p>We could see a flurry of EVs hit the roads over the next decade, and one thing they'll all require is a strong charging network. Yet while there are several EV-charging pure plays to bet on, an auto giant like <b>General Motors </b>(NYSE:GM) could surprisingly end up with an edge in EV charging, even as it aggressively rolls out EVs in the coming years.</p>\n<p>General Motors recently announced it'll build 40,000 of its own EV charging stations under the Ultium brand starting in 2022, and it will be available for home and commercial use for all EV users. GM also signed up multiple charging providers earlier in the year as part of its Ultium Charge 360 charging network program. Yet as my Fool colleague Travis Hoium explained, the partnerships expose the lack of differentiation and bargaining power in the hands of EV charging companies, and although a tie-up with GM could drive traffic to their locations, consumers will eventually pay GM for the services.</p>\n<p>All of this while GM rapidly scales up its EV presence by investing $35 billion and launching 30 new Ultium-powered EVs by 2025, including Buick crossovers, a Chevrolet crossover priced at around $30,000, Chevrolet trucks, and GMC, Hummer, and Cadillac EVs.</p>\n<p>By the end of the decade, GM expects revenues from EVs to jump from about $10 billion in 2023 to nearly $90 billion. That effectively means EVs could make up nearly 40% of GM's total projected revenue by 2030. GM believes it could even catch up with Tesla by 2025. Given GM's expertise and engineering prowess, I'd be willing to make a bet on the company's ambitions.</p>\n<h2>This Tesla rival's plans could mean big things</h2>\n<p>GM isn't the only company that wants to beat Tesla. China-based luxury-car maker <b>Nio</b> (NYSE:NIO) is already on the job. Nio is selling a record number of vehicles quarter after quarter, and it's focused on building brand loyalty -- much like the one Tesla enjoys -- through branded merchandise and premium services, like Nio Houses, which offer Nio users exclusive access to a host of experiences, including cafes, libraries, and co-working spaces.</p>\n<p>And Nio isn't limiting its brand-building strategies to China. In September, not only did it deliver its first ES8 vehicles in Norway, but it also opened a Nio House. The ES8, a six- or seven-seater SUV, is among the three models Nio currently sells. The other two are a five-seater SUV, the ES6, and a five-seater electric coupe SUV, the EC6.</p>\n<p>Above all, Nio gives potential buyers an enviable option that's also a huge competitive advantage: They can buy Nio cars without batteries, save nearly $10,000, and subscribe to its battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan. So for a monthly fee, such customers can subscribe to batteries of various capacities and charge and swap them as needed at Nio's battery swap stations.</p>\n<p>Nio's sales in China still pale in front of Tesla's, but Nio is growing exponentially without question: As of the end of Jan. 31, Nio had delivered 82,866 vehicles in total since inception. That cumulative number had risen to 142,036 by Sept. 30. With Nio's flagship luxury sedan ET7 ready to roll out next year and the company also planning to expand is footprint into Europe, its sales numbers should only pick up from here. Many laughed it off, as the electric-vehicle (EV) industry was still in its nascent stage, and Tesla had built just about 33,000 units of its only luxury sedan, the Model S, the previous year.\nOn Oct. 25, Tesla bagged an order of 100,000 vehicles from one customer alone, days after it announced it had delivered a record 241,300 cars in just the third quarter.\nTesla's growth reflects the potential in the global electric-vehicle market. From automakers to providers of batteries, charging infrastructure, and ancillary products and services, companies of all types and sizes are pumping billions of dollars into EVs, and many watching their stocks hit dizzying heights.\nThe next decade could be a huge one, and while Tesla might seem a no-brainer, here are three other solid EV manufacturer stocks you could buy and hold for the next decade.\nThe most underrated yet promising EV stock\nWhen you're talking about electric vehicles, you can't afford to ignore what's happening in China, the world's largest EV market. China wants 25% of its all new cars sold by 2025 to be electric. If you think that's an ambitious goal, consider that EVs already accounted for 12% of total car sales in the nation in the first half of 2021. One EV company that's already thriving in China is BYD (OTC:BYDDY).\nImage source: Getty Images.\nIn fact, I consider BYD to be one of the most underrated EV stocks, given its solid foothold in not just the commercial EV market but also the indispensable battery market. According to FT.com, BYD is:\n\nThe second largest manufacturer of electric buses in the world.\nThe fourth largest manufacturer of EVs in the world.\nAmong the largest producers of lithium-ion EV batteries in China.\n\nIt's hard to ignore these stunning facts. BYD makes hybrids, commercial vehicles, batteries, and monorail systems, and it also owns a semiconductor business that it plans to spin off. BYD's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales soared 276% year over year in September to hit record highs of nearly 70,000 units, and its NEV sales jumped almost 87% during the quarter ended Sept. 30. NEVs include battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel-cell EVs.\nIn fact, BYD was China's leading NEV producer in September, with five of its models making it to the top 15 NEV list, according to CNBC.\nBYD plans to export cars, and it could potentially even become one of the largest battery companies in the world if it can bag some deals that are reportedly under negotiations. In industry reports are to be believed, BYD is planning to raise its battery prices by nearly 20% from November. The best part is that BYD is already profitable, and with Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway also owning a stake in BYD, this one's a compelling EV stock for the long haul.\nDon't underestimate this late mover's EV potential\nWe could see a flurry of EVs hit the roads over the next decade, and one thing they'll all require is a strong charging network. Yet while there are several EV-charging pure plays to bet on, an auto giant like General Motors (NYSE:GM) could surprisingly end up with an edge in EV charging, even as it aggressively rolls out EVs in the coming years.\nGeneral Motors recently announced it'll build 40,000 of its own EV charging stations under the Ultium brand starting in 2022, and it will be available for home and commercial use for all EV users. GM also signed up multiple charging providers earlier in the year as part of its Ultium Charge 360 charging network program. Yet as my Fool colleague Travis Hoium explained, the partnerships expose the lack of differentiation and bargaining power in the hands of EV charging companies, and although a tie-up with GM could drive traffic to their locations, consumers will eventually pay GM for the services.\nAll of this while GM rapidly scales up its EV presence by investing $35 billion and launching 30 new Ultium-powered EVs by 2025, including Buick crossovers, a Chevrolet crossover priced at around $30,000, Chevrolet trucks, and GMC, Hummer, and Cadillac EVs.\nBy the end of the decade, GM expects revenues from EVs to jump from about $10 billion in 2023 to nearly $90 billion. That effectively means EVs could make up nearly 40% of GM's total projected revenue by 2030. GM believes it could even catch up with Tesla by 2025. Given GM's expertise and engineering prowess, I'd be willing to make a bet on the company's ambitions.\nThis Tesla rival's plans could mean big things\nGM isn't the only company that wants to beat Tesla. China-based luxury-car maker Nio (NYSE:NIO) is already on the job. Nio is selling a record number of vehicles quarter after quarter, and it's focused on building brand loyalty -- much like the one Tesla enjoys -- through branded merchandise and premium services, like Nio Houses, which offer Nio users exclusive access to a host of experiences, including cafes, libraries, and co-working spaces.\nAnd Nio isn't limiting its brand-building strategies to China. In September, not only did it deliver its first ES8 vehicles in Norway, but it also opened a Nio House. The ES8, a six- or seven-seater SUV, is among the three models Nio currently sells. The other two are a five-seater SUV, the ES6, and a five-seater electric coupe SUV, the EC6.\nAbove all, Nio gives potential buyers an enviable option that's also a huge competitive advantage: They can buy Nio cars without batteries, save nearly $10,000, and subscribe to its battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan. So for a monthly fee, such customers can subscribe to batteries of various capacities and charge and swap them as needed at Nio's battery swap stations.\nNio's sales in China still pale in front of Tesla's, but Nio is growing exponentially without question: As of the end of Jan. 31, Nio had delivered 82,866 vehicles in total since inception. That cumulative number had risen to 142,036 by Sept. 30. With Nio's flagship luxury sedan ET7 ready to roll out next year and the company also planning to expand is footprint into Europe, its sales numbers should only pick up from here. With more adults dressing up and a return of trick or treat activities, the company could be in for a strong quarter.</p>\n<p>The company’sthird-quarterrevenue was $237&nbsp;million, which included $64&nbsp;million in revenue for the costumes segment. Costume sales were up 16.4% year-over-year and the fourth quarter could continue that trend. Jakks Pacific had revenue of $128.3 million in the fourth quarter last year, a decline from the prior year. Last year’s fourth quarter featured a 91% year-over-year increase in costumes segment revenue. I think there's going to be a big transition for our society because the internet is faster, quicker, cheaper. I think more and more healthcare is going to shift online and more of this is transforming healthcare. The internet's been around for 20 years, 25 years, but it's still making these changes.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWOA.U\">Two</a> companies I really love in the telehealth space, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of them is Doximity, just came public this year. DOCS is their ticker. Doximity is basically the <b>Facebook</b> of healthcare, the LinkedIn of healthcare. Eighty percent of doctors are on the Doximity platform, 90% of med students are on the Doximity platform. It is a huge networking site for healthcare, for doctors, and they've got three businesses that they run from their website. One is the LinkedIn for people in healthcare looking for jobs, that networking thing. You don't go to Facebook and you don't go to LinkedIn, you go to Doximity because that's where they all are. The other one they do is they do telehealth, so they compete with <b>Teladoc</b> and they actually did a lot more telehealth visits than (Teladoc) over the last year. That's actually why I got into the stock because I was just blown away.</p>\n<p>They rolled out Dialer, it's called Dialer. They rolled it out at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. The doctors on their platform just love Dialer because it allowed them to do telehealth through that network with their actual patients. It protected them, protected their privacy so the patients couldn't call them in the middle of the night or anything. That was the other one. Then of course, the third business is having that Facebook-type business where pharmaceutical companies and other people can reach doctors and other healthcare professionals. The advertising business, monetizing all those medical eyeballs. That's a big part of Doximity's plan.</p>\n<p>OptimizeRX is another much smaller company in the telehealth space, which I own both of these to give you just a warning, I guess, about my own bias. But I love both of these stocks. Optimize is a lot smaller, but they're focused in a different area that Doximity is not. OptimizeRX is focused on electronic health records. Electronic health records are those things your doctor's looking at when he's looking at his iPad. All your health records are going to be online pretty much, but there is no <b>Microsoft</b> in this area. There are like 500 or 600 software providers or a thousand. There's just a ton of little ones. OptimizeRX is putting together an entire network. They put it together. I think it's like 60% or 70% of doctors is their reach in that electronic health network. The idea is maybe to give a little link to a Harvard study when the doctor is looking at his notes about this new drugs so that the pharmaceutical companies can reach a doctor in the course of this workflow without interrupting his workflow and bring new -- because doctors always have to get update on new things, new studies, new drugs, new stuff. Optimize is a specialist at that. And I thought, wow, these two companies would really fit into the Doximity wheelhouse because it's all about connection, and healthcare connection, and reaching doctors. That would be my suggestion.</p>\n<p>But I agree with you, I don't know if anybody listens to me, [laughs] but both stocks have done actually really well. In fact, OptimizeRx has done better. I think it's about doubled this year. They're still small, I think it's a billion (market cap). It's a tiny company. Doximity is a lot bigger, but they might be a good combo.</p>\n<p><b>Jason Hall:</b> It's interesting because it's one of those spaces that there are just dozens and dozens of companies that do these things. The potential for consolidation is enormous in that whole space. Estimates call for 55% of homes without children to celebrate, compared to 49% in 2020. If you’ve ever gone trick or treating, chances are you got a ton of tootsie rolls, given their lower cost for anyone buying for a large number of visitors.\nThe companyreportedthird-quarter sales of $183.1 million, up 17% year-over-year. The company saw a dip in fourth-quarter revenue last year compared to the prior year. Look for Tootsie Roll to see a rebound in the fourth quarter.\nHershey:The Hershey Co\nHSY-2.28%has diversified its products to include several snack brands, but candy remains the big revenue driver. The company owns many of the popular brands that will be sought out by trick or treaters. Hershey’sthird-quarterrevenue of $2.4 billion was the highest it has seen in years on a quarterly basis.\n“Consumer demand for our brands has remained robust,” Hershey Company CEOMichele Bucksaid. The company raised full-year sales guidance and a strong Halloween could help meet or exceed the updated expectations.\nJakks Pacific:Toy companyJakks Pacific Inc\nJAKK-4.38%finds itself on the Halloween list thanks to its ownership of Disguise, the world’s leading costume design and manufacturing company. With more adults dressing up and a return of trick or treat activities, the company could be in for a strong quarter.\nThe company’sthird-quarterrevenue was $237 million, which included $64 million in revenue for the costumes segment. Costume sales were up 16.4% year-over-year and the fourth quarter could continue that trend. Jakks Pacific had revenue of $128.3 million in the fourth quarter last year, a decline from the prior year. Last year’s fourth quarter featured a 91% year-over-year increase in costumes segment revenue. The third and fourth quarters are the company’s two biggest quarters for revenue.\nParty City:Retailer$Party City Holdco(PRTY)$ Inc\nPRTY+2.97%could be a popular destination for Halloween costumes and decorations. The company ended thesecond quarterwith 749 locations and is also a provider of third-party products to other retailers.\nSecond-quarter revenue was up 110% year-over-year for the company.\n“We saw sequential acceleration of the business as the economy opened up and restrictions subsided, driving increased consumer ability to celebrate,” Party City CEOBrad Westonsaid. From automakers to providers of batteries, charging infrastructure, and ancillary products and services, companies of all types and sizes are pumping billions of dollars into EVs, and many watching their stocks hit dizzying heights.</p>\n<p>The next decade could be a huge one, and while Tesla might seem a no-brainer, here are three other solid EV manufacturer stocks you could buy and hold for the next decade.</p>\n<h2>The most underrated yet promising EV stock</h2>\n<p>When you're talking about electric vehicles, you can't afford to ignore what's happening in China, the world's largest EV market. China wants 25% of its all new cars sold by 2025 to be electric. If you think that's an ambitious goal, consider that EVs already accounted for 12% of total car sales in the nation in the first half of 2021. One EV company that's already thriving in China is <b>BYD</b> (OTC:BYDDY).</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://g.foolcdn.com/image/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fg.foolcdn.com%2Feditorial%2Fimages%2F649494%2Fa-person-charging-an-electric-car.jpg&amp;w=700&amp;op=resize\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<p>In fact, I consider BYD to be one of the most underrated EV stocks, given its solid foothold in not just the commercial EV market but also the indispensable battery market. According to FT.com, BYD is:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>The second largest manufacturer of electric buses in the world.</li>\n <li>The fourth largest manufacturer of EVs in the world.</li>\n <li>Among the largest producers of lithium-ion EV batteries in China.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>It's hard to ignore these stunning facts. BYD makes hybrids, commercial vehicles, batteries, and monorail systems, and it also owns a semiconductor business that it plans to spin off. BYD's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales soared 276% year over year in September to hit record highs of nearly 70,000 units, and its NEV sales jumped almost 87% during the quarter ended Sept. 30. NEVs include battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel-cell EVs.</p>\n<p>In fact, BYD was China's leading NEV producer in September, with five of its models making it to the top 15 NEV list, according to CNBC.</p>\n<p>BYD plans to export cars, and it could potentially even become one of the largest battery companies in the world if it can bag some deals that are reportedly under negotiations. In industry reports are to be believed, BYD is planning to raise its battery prices by nearly 20% from November. The best part is that BYD is already profitable, and with Warren Buffett's <b>Berkshire Hathaway</b> also owning a stake in BYD, this one's a compelling EV stock for the long haul.</p>\n<h2>Don't underestimate this late mover's EV potential</h2>\n<p>We could see a flurry of EVs hit the roads over the next decade, and one thing they'll all require is a strong charging network. Yet while there are several EV-charging pure plays to bet on, an auto giant like <b>General Motors </b>(NYSE:GM) could surprisingly end up with an edge in EV charging, even as it aggressively rolls out EVs in the coming years.</p>\n<p>General Motors recently announced it'll build 40,000 of its own EV charging stations under the Ultium brand starting in 2022, and it will be available for home and commercial use for all EV users. GM also signed up multiple charging providers earlier in the year as part of its Ultium Charge 360 charging network program. Yet as my Fool colleague Travis Hoium explained, the partnerships expose the lack of differentiation and bargaining power in the hands of EV charging companies, and although a tie-up with GM could drive traffic to their locations, consumers will eventually pay GM for the services.</p>\n<p>All of this while GM rapidly scales up its EV presence by investing $35 billion and launching 30 new Ultium-powered EVs by 2025, including Buick crossovers, a Chevrolet crossover priced at around $30,000, Chevrolet trucks, and GMC, Hummer, and Cadillac EVs.</p>\n<p>By the end of the decade, GM expects revenues from EVs to jump from about $10 billion in 2023 to nearly $90 billion. That effectively means EVs could make up nearly 40% of GM's total projected revenue by 2030. GM believes it could even catch up with Tesla by 2025. Given GM's expertise and engineering prowess, I'd be willing to make a bet on the company's ambitions.</p>\n<h2>This Tesla rival's plans could mean big things</h2>\n<p>GM isn't the only company that wants to beat Tesla. China-based luxury-car maker <b>Nio</b> (NYSE:NIO) is already on the job. Nio is selling a record number of vehicles quarter after quarter, and it's focused on building brand loyalty -- much like the one Tesla enjoys -- through branded merchandise and premium services, like Nio Houses, which offer Nio users exclusive access to a host of experiences, including cafes, libraries, and co-working spaces.</p>\n<p>And Nio isn't limiting its brand-building strategies to China. In September, not only did it deliver its first ES8 vehicles in Norway, but it also opened a Nio House. The ES8, a six- or seven-seater SUV, is among the three models Nio currently sells. The other two are a five-seater SUV, the ES6, and a five-seater electric coupe SUV, the EC6.</p>\n<p>Above all, Nio gives potential buyers an enviable option that's also a huge competitive advantage: They can buy Nio cars without batteries, save nearly $10,000, and subscribe to its battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan. So for a monthly fee, such customers can subscribe to batteries of various capacities and charge and swap them as needed at Nio's battery swap stations.</p>\n<p>Nio's sales in China still pale in front of Tesla's, but Nio is growing exponentially without question: As of the end of Jan. 31, Nio had delivered 82,866 vehicles in total since inception. That cumulative number had risen to 142,036 by Sept. 30. With Nio's flagship luxury sedan ET7 ready to roll out next year and the company also planning to expand is footprint into Europe, its sales numbers should only pick up from here. Yet as my Fool colleague Travis Hoium explained, the partnerships expose the lack of differentiation and bargaining power in the hands of EV charging companies, and although a tie-up with GM could drive traffic to their locations, consumers will eventually pay GM for the services.\nAll of this while GM rapidly scales up its EV presence by investing $35 billion and launching 30 new Ultium-powered EVs by 2025, including Buick crossovers, a Chevrolet crossover priced at around $30,000, Chevrolet trucks, and GMC, Hummer, and Cadillac EVs.\nBy the end of the decade, GM expects revenues from EVs to jump from about $10 billion in 2023 to nearly $90 billion. That effectively means EVs could make up nearly 40% of GM's total projected revenue by 2030. GM believes it could even catch up with Tesla by 2025. Nio is selling a record number of vehicles quarter after quarter, and it's focused on building brand loyalty -- much like the one Tesla enjoys -- through branded merchandise and premium services, like Nio Houses, which offer Nio users exclusive access to a host of experiences, including cafes, libraries, and co-working spaces.\nAnd Nio isn't limiting its brand-building strategies to China. In September, not only did it deliver its first ES8 vehicles in Norway, but it also opened a Nio House. The ES8, a six- or seven-seater SUV, is among the three models Nio currently sells. The other two are a five-seater SUV, the ES6, and a five-seater electric coupe SUV, the EC6.\nAbove all, Nio gives potential buyers an enviable option that's also a huge competitive advantage: They can buy Nio cars without batteries, save nearly $10,000, and subscribe to its battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan. The internet's been around for 20 years, 25 years, but it's still making these changes.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWOA.U\">Two</a> companies I really love in the telehealth space, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of them is Doximity, just came public this year. DOCS is their ticker. Doximity is basically the <b>Facebook</b> of healthcare, the LinkedIn of healthcare. Eighty percent of doctors are on the Doximity platform, 90% of med students are on the Doximity platform. It is a huge networking site for healthcare, for doctors, and they've got three businesses that they run from their website. One is the LinkedIn for people in healthcare looking for jobs, that networking thing. You don't go to Facebook and you don't go to LinkedIn, you go to Doximity because that's where they all are. The other one they do is they do telehealth, so they compete with <b>Teladoc</b> and they actually did a lot more telehealth visits than (Teladoc) over the last year. That's actually why I got into the stock because I was just blown away.</p>\n<p>They rolled out Dialer, it's called Dialer. They rolled it out at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. The doctors on their platform just love Dialer because it allowed them to do telehealth through that network with their actual patients. It protected them, protected their privacy so the patients couldn't call them in the middle of the night or anything. That was the other one. Then of course, the third business is having that Facebook-type business where pharmaceutical companies and other people can reach doctors and other healthcare professionals. The advertising business, monetizing all those medical eyeballs. That's a big part of Doximity's plan.</p>\n<p>OptimizeRX is another much smaller company in the telehealth space, which I own both of these to give you just a warning, I guess, about my own bias. But I love both of these stocks. Optimize is a lot smaller, but they're focused in a different area that Doximity is not. OptimizeRX is focused on electronic health records. Electronic health records are those things your doctor's looking at when he's looking at his iPad. All your health records are going to be online pretty much, but there is no <b>Microsoft</b> in this area. There are like 500 or 600 software providers or a thousand. There's just a ton of little ones. OptimizeRX is putting together an entire network. They put it together. I think it's like 60% or 70% of doctors is their reach in that electronic health network. The idea is maybe to give a little link to a Harvard study when the doctor is looking at his notes about this new drugs so that the pharmaceutical companies can reach a doctor in the course of this workflow without interrupting his workflow and bring new -- because doctors always have to get update on new things, new studies, new drugs, new stuff. Optimize is a specialist at that. And I thought, wow, these two companies would really fit into the Doximity wheelhouse because it's all about connection, and healthcare connection, and reaching doctors. That would be my suggestion.</p>\n<p>But I agree with you, I don't know if anybody listens to me, [laughs] but both stocks have done actually really well. In fact, OptimizeRx has done better. I think it's about doubled this year. They're still small, I think it's a billion (market cap). It's a tiny company.
