of the most popular buzzwords in investing today is “compounders.” Growth-oriented investors loo","content":"<p>One of the most popular buzzwords in investing today is “compounders.” Growth-oriented investors looking for the next Amazon.com, Costco Wholesale, Nike, or Visa seek to identify companies capable of generating double-digit compound growth in revenue and earnings—preferably both—for years to come.</p>\n<p>The idea is that stock prices should compound in line with revenue and profits, enabling investors to generate high returns over a holding period of five to 10 years. The ultimate goal is to find the elusive “10 bagger”—a stock that returns 10 times what you paid for it.</p>\n<p>Wall Street analyst notes and client letters from investment pros are replete with compounder references. Many of the next generation of value managers, identified in a <i>Barron’s</i> cover story in May, are seeking such shares, rather than the traditional value fare of cheap stocks.</p>\n<p>Their search has become more challenging, because buyers are paying lofty prices for high-growth stories. Really big winners are scarce. Only about 35 companies in each of a long series of 10-year periods have compounded their stock prices at 20% or more annually, resulting in at least a sixfold increase, according to Durable Capital Partners.</p>\n<p>Many investors are happy to stick with large, well-known compounders, such as Alphabet(ticker: GOOGL),Mastercard(MA),UnitedHealth Group(UNH), and Eli Lilly(LLY).</p>\n<p><i>Barron’s</i> sought to identify smaller candidates. We talked to investment managers and came up with an eclectic list of 10 stocks, most with market values under $10 billion. Here are the selections, in alphabetical order:</p>\n<p>Strong and Steady Wins the RaceHere are 10 stocks that growth investors have identified as being able to generate consistently high growth in revenues or profits for many years.</p>\n<table>\n <thead>\n <tr>\n <th>Company / Ticker</th>\n <th>Recent Price</th>\n <th>YTD Change</th>\n <th>2021E P/E</th>\n <th>2021E Price/Sales</th>\n <th>2022E P/E</th>\n <th>2022E Price/Sales</th>\n <th>LT Growth Rate*</th>\n <th>Market Value (bil)</th>\n <th>Comment</th>\n </tr>\n </thead>\n <tbody>\n <tr>\n <td>Amedysis / AMED</td>\n <td>$185.15</td>\n <td>-37%</td>\n <td>30.2</td>\n <td>2.7</td>\n <td>27.7</td>\n <td>2.4</td>\n <td>10.5%</td>\n <td>$6.3</td>\n <td>Leader in home health care</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Amyris / AMRS</td>\n <td>13.64</td>\n <td>121</td>\n <td>NM</td>\n <td>10.4</td>\n <td>NM</td>\n <td>9.7</td>\n <td>NA</td>\n <td>4.1</td>\n <td>Leading company in synthetic biology</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Booz Allen Hamilton Holding / BAH</td>\n <td>81.73</td>\n <td>-6</td>\n <td>19.4</td>\n <td>1.3</td>\n <td>17.7</td>\n <td>1.2</td>\n <td>8.6</td>\n <td>11.0</td>\n <td>Defense-department consultant</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>J.B. But the shares, around $185, are off nearly 30% after the company recently cut 2021 financial guidance, citing Covid-related staffing and cost issues, mostly in acquired hospice operations. The 2021 earnings estimate is now $6.13 a share, down from nearly $7. The stock trades for 30 times projected 2021 profits. Cole says that the company remains capable of generating 10% annual gains in earnings per share.</p>\n<p>Amyris(AMRS) is a leader in synthetic biology. It fans say its opportunity is to supplant, in an eco-friendly way, a range of products now made from petrochemicals, animals, and plants.</p>\n<p>Using genetically re-engineered yeast and sugar cane, Amyris produces such things as squalane, a high-end moisturizer formerly made from shark livers; vanillin, the flavoring for vanilla; and a no-calorie sweetener normally derived from plants. The stock trades around $13.</p>\n<p><i>Barron’s</i> wrote favorably on the company in July. Amyris sees sales reaching $2 billion by 2025, up from an estimated $400 million this year, driven by its consumer brands.</p>\n<p>“The world needs clean chemistry, and Amyris is the point on the spear to create it,” says Randy Baron, a portfolio manager at Pinnacle Associates, which owns Amyris shares. He thinks they could hit $75 by the end of 2022.</p>\n<p>Booz Allen Hamilton Holding(BAH) is an important consultant to the Defense Department and other agencies. The U.S. government accounted for 97% of its revenue in its latest fiscal year. Booz Allen has built robust ties to the government over the years by providing an array of services, like cybersecurity. Its stock trades around $81, for a 1.8% yield.</p>\n<p>“It has built a strong, partnership-like culture and has a long record of steady growth,” says Josh Spencer, manager of the T. Rowe Price New Horizons fund. He sees Booz Allen as capable of generating 9% to 10% annual growth in revenue and yearly gains of 15% to 16% in earnings, in line with its historical performance. The stock is off 20% from its peak of $100, amid concerns about more restrained military spending. Spencer sees the pullback as a buying opportunity, with the stock valued at less than 20 times earnings.</p>\n<p>J.B. Hunt Transport Services(JBHT) is a leader in intermodal freight, which involves the fuel-efficient movement of trucks over rail lines. It has been one of the most successful trucking companies. Its stock has risen 30-fold over the past 20 years, to a recent $173. “It has an incredible franchise,” says Henry Ellenbogen, chief investment officer at Durable Capital Partners and a member of the Barron’s Roundtable.</p>\n<p>J.B. Hunt’s relationship with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad gives it a strong position in intermodal freight, he notes. J.B. Hunt also has a growing business taking over the trucking operations of smaller companies. And it is involved in digital freight brokerage—matching truckers with shipping customers.</p>\n<p>Ellenbogen says the stock is reasonable at 22 times estimated 2022 profits, given a mid-teens annual growth outlook for earnings.</p>\n<p>Marriott Vacations Worldwide(VAC) is one of the top companies in the timeshare industry. It has 700,000 owners, a resilient business model with significant revenue from fees, and more exposure than its peers to luxury properties in places including Hawaii and Orlando, Fla.</p>\n<p>“It has the best customer base, with the highest spending and an impeccable balance sheet,” says David Baron, a manager of the Baron Focused Growth fund. Marriott Vacations, whose shares recently were trading around $145, should reinstate its dividend later this year, he adds.</p>\n<p>The shares, Baron argues, are cheap at a 11% free-cash-flow yield, based on 2022 estimates. He says that the stock, little changed since 2018, could produce 20% annual returns for shareholders in the coming years.</p>\n<p>SiteOne Landscape Supply(SITE) is the country’s top supplier of landscaping products, with ample opportunity to expand, given that it has just a 13% market share in a highly fragmented industry.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>“It’s growing organically and has lots of acquisition opportunities,” says Columbia’s Cole, who considers the company to be capable of 10% to 15% annual revenue growth.</p>\n<p>The stock, around $197, has a rich valuation, trading for 43 times projected 2022 earnings of $4.54 a share.</p>\n<p>Staar Surgical(STAA) has developed an implantable lens to correct myopia (nearsightedness). That addresses a potentially huge market, given the rising global incidence of that vision problem. The company expects the lens, which has been available in Europe and Asia for at least five years, to be on the U.S. market in the fourth quarter, pending Food and Drug Administration approval.</p>\n<p>“It could do substantial volumes,’’ says Doug Brodie, a global manager at Baillie Gifford. “It’s early in a journey and is largely devoid of competition.”</p>\n<p>Lenses for both eyes can be implanted in less than an hour, and they don’t involve the removal of the natural lenses. The wholesale cost in the U.S. could be around $1,000 per lens.</p>\n<p>At a recent $138, Staar shares are richly valued at more than 20 times projected 2022 sales and 140 times estimated 2022 earnings. But the market opportunity is enormous: Some five billion people worldwide could have myopia by 2050.</p>\n<p>Stitch Fix(SFIX) has developed a subscription service for clothing, shoes, and other accessories and boasts over four million customers.</p>\n<p>“This could be the Nordstrom of the future,” says Mario Cibelli, chief investment officer at Marathon Partners Equity Management, a Stitch Fix holder. “This a potentially huge market and nobody is addressing it in the same way.” Using a staff of 6,000 personal stylists and lots of data, Stitch Fix seeks to identify subscriber tastes to generate high satisfaction and limit returns on packages sent at intervals and determined by subscribers.</p>\n<p>Its shares, around $44, are down 60% from their level earlier in the year, on investors’ worries about potential churn and the business’s ultimate profitability.</p>\n<p>Yet Cibelli sees revenue growth of 20%-plus annually, opportunities outside its current U.S. and U.K. markets, and a potentially very profitable business in two to three years.</p>\n<p>Trex(TREX) is the top producer of a high-end wood alternative for decks that comes from 95% recycled material, making it an eco-friendly housing play. The shares, at $105, trade for 43 times projected 2022 earnings.</p>\n<p>T. Rowe Price’s Spencer views Trex as worth the price, based on his view that it can generate sustainable annual revenue growth of 15% to 20%. Earnings are expected to climb by about 20% in 2022 and at a similar pace in the following years. “If you roll the clock forward three years, it doesn’t look as expensive,” he says.</p>\n<p>Upwork(UPWK), an online marketplace for freelance workers, is favored by Baillie Gifford’s Brodie, who says it offers a play on the greater acceptance of freelancers by businesses.</p>\n<p>The shares, recently around $44, aren’t cheap. Upwork is valued at $5.7 billion, or more than 10 times this year’s projected sales of nearly $500 million. It operates at a slight loss.</p>\n<p>The investment case is about rapid sales growth leading to ample earnings. Sales are expected to rise by 30%-plus this year and 25% for 2022.</p>\n<p>“Freelancers are more accepted by small to midsize business, but they’ve been frowned on by the HR departments at large businesses,” Brodie says. Upwork aims to change that perception by vetting its freelancers and by offering thousands of skill sets. “Upwork could become a trusted partner for an increasing number of enterprise-grade partners,” he says.</p>","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; charset=utf-8\" />\n<meta name=\"viewport\" content=\"width=device-width,initial-scale=1.0,minimum-scale=1.0,maximum-scale=1.0,user-scalable=no\"/>\n<meta name=\"format-detection\" content=\"telephone=no,email=no,address=no\" />\n<title>These 10 Standout Stocks Could Be the Next Amazon</title>\n<style type=\"text/css\">\na,abbr,acronym,address,applet,article,aside,audio,b,big,blockquote,body,canvas,caption,center,cite,code,dd,del,details,dfn,div,dl,dt,\nem,embed,fieldset,figcaption,figure,footer,form,h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,header,hgroup,html,i,iframe,img,ins,kbd,label,legend,li,mark,menu,nav,\nobject,ol,output,p,pre,q,ruby,s,samp,section,small,span,strike,strong,sub,summary,sup,table,tbody,td,tfoot,th,thead,time,tr,tt,u,ul,var,video{ font:inherit;margin:0;padding:0;vertical-align:baseline;border:0 }\nbody{ font-size:16px; line-height:1.5; color:#999; background:transparent; }\n.wrapper{ overflow:hidden;word-break:break-all;padding:10px; }\nh1,h2{ font-weight:normal; line-height:1.35; margin-bottom:.6em; }\nh3,h4,h5,h6{ line-height:1.35; margin-bottom:1em; }\nh1{ font-size:24px; }\nh2{ font-size:20px; }\nh3{ font-size:18px; }\nh4{ font-size:16px; }\nh5{ font-size:14px; }\nh6{ font-size:12px; }\np,ul,ol,blockquote,dl,table{ margin:1.2em 0; }\nul,ol{ margin-left:2em; }\nul{ list-style:disc; }\nol{ list-style:decimal; }\nli,li p{ margin:10px 0;}\nimg{ max-width:100%;display:block;margin:0 auto 1em; }\nblockquote{ color:#B5B2B1; border-left:3px solid #aaa; padding:1em; }\nstrong,b{font-weight:bold;}\nem,i{font-style:italic;}\ntable{ width:100%;border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:1px;margin:1em 0;font-size:.9em; }\nth,td{ padding:5px;text-align:left;border:1px solid #aaa; }\nth{ font-weight:bold;background:#5d5d5d; }\n.symbol-link{font-weight:bold;}\n/* header{ border-bottom:1px solid #494756; } */\n.title{ margin:0 0 8px;line-height:1.3;color:#ddd; }\n.meta {color:#5e5c6d;font-size:13px;margin:0 0 .5em; }\na{text-decoration:none; color:#2a4b87;}\n.meta .head { display: inline-block; overflow: hidden}\n.head .h-thumb { width: 30px; height: 30px; margin: 0; padding: 0; border-radius: 50%; float: left;}\n.head .h-content { margin: 0; padding: 0 0 0 9px; float: left;}\n.head .h-name {font-size: 13px; color: #eee; margin: 0;}\n.head .h-time {font-size: 11px; color: #7E829C; margin: 0;line-height: 11px;}\n.small {font-size: 12.5px; display: inline-block; transform: scale(0.9); -webkit-transform: scale(0.9); transform-origin: left; -webkit-transform-origin: left;}\n.smaller {font-size: 12.5px; display: inline-block; transform: scale(0.8); -webkit-transform: scale(0.8); transform-origin: left; -webkit-transform-origin: left;}\n.bt-text {font-size: 12px;margin: 1.5em 0 0 0}\n.bt-text p {margin: 0}\n</style>\n</head>\n<body>\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<header>\n<h2 class=\"title\">\nThese 10 Standout Stocks Could Be the Next Amazon\n</h2>\n\n<h4 class=\"meta\">\n\n\n2021-08-15 11:22 GMT+8 <a href=https://www.barrons.com/articles/stocks-potential-compounder-growth-51628888840?mod=hp_LEADSUPP_2><strong>Barrons</strong></a>\n\n\n</h4>\n\n</header>\n<article>\n<div>\n<p>One of the most popular buzzwords in investing today is “compounders.” Growth-oriented investors looking for the next Amazon.com, Costco Wholesale, Nike, or Visa seek to identify companies capable of ...</p>\n\n<a href=\"https://www.barrons.com/articles/stocks-potential-compounder-growth-51628888840?mod=hp_LEADSUPP_2\">Web Link</a>\n\n</div>\n\n\n</article>\n</div>\n</body>\n</html>\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMED":"阿米斯医疗","SITE":"SiteOne Landscape Supply, Inc.","UPWK":"Upwork Inc.","SFIX":"Stitch Fix Inc.","JBHT":"JB Hunt运输服务","STAA":"STAAR Surgical Company","AMRS":"阿米瑞斯","VAC":"万豪度假环球","BAH":"博思艾伦咨询公司","TREX":"Trex Co Inc"},"source_url":"https://www.barrons.com/articles/stocks-potential-compounder-growth-51628888840?mod=hp_LEADSUPP_2","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1127633167","content_text":"One of the most popular buzzwords in investing today is “compounders.” Growth-oriented investors looking for the next Amazon.com, Costco Wholesale, Nike, or Visa seek to identify companies capable of generating double-digit compound growth in revenue and earnings—preferably both—for years to come.\nThe idea is that stock prices should compound in line with revenue and profits, enabling investors to generate high returns over a holding period of five to 10 years. The ultimate goal is to find the elusive “10 bagger”—a stock that returns 10 times what you paid for it.\nWall Street analyst notes and client letters from investment pros are replete with compounder references. Many of the next generation of value managers, identified in a Barron’s cover story in May, are seeking such shares, rather than the traditional value fare of cheap stocks.\nTheir search has become more challenging, because buyers are paying lofty prices for high-growth stories. Really big winners are scarce. Only about 35 companies in each of a long series of 10-year periods have compounded their stock prices at 20% or more annually, resulting in at least a sixfold increase, according to Durable Capital Partners.\nMany investors are happy to stick with large, well-known compounders, such as Alphabet(ticker: GOOGL),Mastercard(MA),UnitedHealth Group(UNH), and Eli Lilly(LLY).\nBarron’s sought to identify smaller candidates. We talked to investment managers and came up with an eclectic list of 10 stocks, most with market values under $10 billion. Here are the selections, in alphabetical order:\nStrong and Steady Wins the RaceHere are 10 stocks that growth investors have identified as being able to generate consistently high growth in revenues or profits for many years.\n\n\n\nCompany / Ticker\nRecent Price\nYTD Change\n2021E P/E\n2021E Price/Sales\n2022E P/E\n2022E Price/Sales\nLT Growth Rate*\nMarket Value (bil)\nComment\n\n\n\n\nAmedysis / AMED\n$185.15\n-37%\n30.2\n2.7\n27.7\n2.4\n10.5%\n$6.3\nLeader in home health care\n\n\nAmyris / AMRS\n13.64\n121\nNM\n10.4\nNM\n9.7\nNA\n4.1\nLeading company in synthetic biology\n\n\nBooz Allen Hamilton Holding / BAH\n81.73\n-6\n19.4\n1.3\n17.7\n1.2\n8.6\n11.0\nDefense-department consultant\n\n\nJ.B. But the shares, around $185, are off nearly 30% after the company recently cut 2021 financial guidance, citing Covid-related staffing and cost issues, mostly in acquired hospice operations. The 2021 earnings estimate is now $6.13 a share, down from nearly $7. The stock trades for 30 times projected 2021 profits. Cole says that the company remains capable of generating 10% annual gains in earnings per share.\nAmyris(AMRS) is a leader in synthetic biology. It fans say its opportunity is to supplant, in an eco-friendly way, a range of products now made from petrochemicals, animals, and plants.\nUsing genetically re-engineered yeast and sugar cane, Amyris produces such things as squalane, a high-end moisturizer formerly made from shark livers; vanillin, the flavoring for vanilla; and a no-calorie sweetener normally derived from plants. The stock trades around $13.\nBarron’s wrote favorably on the company in July. Amyris sees sales reaching $2 billion by 2025, up from an estimated $400 million this year, driven by its consumer brands.\n“The world needs clean chemistry, and Amyris is the point on the spear to create it,” says Randy Baron, a portfolio manager at Pinnacle Associates, which owns Amyris shares. He thinks they could hit $75 by the end of 2022.\nBooz Allen Hamilton Holding(BAH) is an important consultant to the Defense Department and other agencies. The U.S. government accounted for 97% of its revenue in its latest fiscal year. Booz Allen has built robust ties to the government over the years by providing an array of services, like cybersecurity. Its stock trades around $81, for a 1.8% yield.\n“It has built a strong, partnership-like culture and has a long record of steady growth,” says Josh Spencer, manager of the T. Rowe Price New Horizons fund. He sees Booz Allen as capable of generating 9% to 10% annual growth in revenue and yearly gains of 15% to 16% in earnings, in line with its historical performance. The stock is off 20% from its peak of $100, amid concerns about more restrained military spending. Spencer sees the pullback as a buying opportunity, with the stock valued at less than 20 times earnings.\nJ.B. Hunt Transport Services(JBHT) is a leader in intermodal freight, which involves the fuel-efficient movement of trucks over rail lines. It has been one of the most successful trucking companies. Its stock has risen 30-fold over the past 20 years, to a recent $173. “It has an incredible franchise,” says Henry Ellenbogen, chief investment officer at Durable Capital Partners and a member of the Barron’s Roundtable.\nJ.B. Hunt’s relationship with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad gives it a strong position in intermodal freight, he notes. J.B. Hunt also has a growing business taking over the trucking operations of smaller companies. And it is involved in digital freight brokerage—matching truckers with shipping customers.\nEllenbogen says the stock is reasonable at 22 times estimated 2022 profits, given a mid-teens annual growth outlook for earnings.\nMarriott Vacations Worldwide(VAC) is one of the top companies in the timeshare industry. It has 700,000 owners, a resilient business model with significant revenue from fees, and more exposure than its peers to luxury properties in places including Hawaii and Orlando, Fla.\n“It has the best customer base, with the highest spending and an impeccable balance sheet,” says David Baron, a manager of the Baron Focused Growth fund. Marriott Vacations, whose shares recently were trading around $145, should reinstate its dividend later this year, he adds.\nThe shares, Baron argues, are cheap at a 11% free-cash-flow yield, based on 2022 estimates. He says that the stock, little changed since 2018, could produce 20% annual returns for shareholders in the coming years.\nSiteOne Landscape Supply(SITE) is the country’s top supplier of landscaping products, with ample opportunity to expand, given that it has just a 13% market share in a highly fragmented industry.\n\n“It’s growing organically and has lots of acquisition opportunities,” says Columbia’s Cole, who considers the company to be capable of 10% to 15% annual revenue growth.\nThe stock, around $197, has a rich valuation, trading for 43 times projected 2022 earnings of $4.54 a share.\nStaar Surgical(STAA) has developed an implantable lens to correct myopia (nearsightedness). But the shares, around $185, are off nearly 30% after the company recently cut 2021 financial guidance, citing Covid-related staffing and cost issues, mostly in acquired hospice operations. The 2021 earnings estimate is now $6.13 a share, down from nearly $7. The stock trades for 30 times projected 2021 profits. Cole says that the company remains capable of generating 10% annual gains in earnings per share.</p>\n<p>Amyris(AMRS) is a leader in synthetic biology. It fans say its opportunity is to supplant, in an eco-friendly way, a range of products now made from petrochemicals, animals, and plants.</p>\n<p>Using genetically re-engineered yeast and sugar cane, Amyris produces such things as squalane, a high-end moisturizer formerly made from shark livers; vanillin, the flavoring for vanilla; and a no-calorie sweetener normally derived from plants. The stock trades around $13.</p>\n<p><i>Barron’s</i> wrote favorably on the company in July. Amyris sees sales reaching $2 billion by 2025, up from an estimated $400 million this year, driven by its consumer brands.</p>\n<p>“The world needs clean chemistry, and Amyris is the point on the spear to create it,” says Randy Baron, a portfolio manager at Pinnacle Associates, which owns Amyris shares. He thinks they could hit $75 by the end of 2022.</p>\n<p>Booz Allen Hamilton Holding(BAH) is an important consultant to the Defense Department and other agencies. The U.S. government accounted for 97% of its revenue in its latest fiscal year. Booz Allen has built robust ties to the government over the years by providing an array of services, like cybersecurity. Its stock trades around $81, for a 1.8% yield.</p>\n<p>“It has built a strong, partnership-like culture and has a long record of steady growth,” says Josh Spencer, manager of the T. Rowe Price New Horizons fund. He sees Booz Allen as capable of generating 9% to 10% annual growth in revenue and yearly gains of 15% to 16% in earnings, in line with its historical performance. The stock is off 20% from its peak of $100, amid concerns about more restrained military spending. Spencer sees the pullback as a buying opportunity, with the stock valued at less than 20 times earnings.</p>\n<p>J.B. Hunt Transport Services(JBHT) is a leader in intermodal freight, which involves the fuel-efficient movement of trucks over rail lines. It has been one of the most successful trucking companies. Its stock has risen 30-fold over the past 20 years, to a recent $173. “It has an incredible franchise,” says Henry Ellenbogen, chief investment officer at Durable Capital Partners and a member of the Barron’s Roundtable.</p>\n<p>J.B. Hunt’s relationship with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad gives it a strong position in intermodal freight, he notes. J.B. Hunt also has a growing business taking over the trucking operations of smaller companies. And it is involved in digital freight brokerage—matching truckers with shipping customers.</p>\n<p>Ellenbogen says the stock is reasonable at 22 times estimated 2022 profits, given a mid-teens annual growth outlook for earnings.</p>\n<p>Marriott Vacations Worldwide(VAC) is one of the top companies in the timeshare industry. It has 700,000 owners, a resilient business model with significant revenue from fees, and more exposure than its peers to luxury properties in places including Hawaii and Orlando, Fla.</p>\n<p>“It has the best customer base, with the highest spending and an impeccable balance sheet,” says David Baron, a manager of the Baron Focused Growth fund. Marriott Vacations, whose shares recently were trading around $145, should reinstate its dividend later this year, he adds.</p>\n<p>The shares, Baron argues, are cheap at a 11% free-cash-flow yield, based on 2022 estimates. He says that the stock, little changed since 2018, could produce 20% annual returns for shareholders in the coming years.</p>\n<p>SiteOne Landscape Supply(SITE) is the country’s top supplier of landscaping products, with ample opportunity to expand, given that it has just a 13% market share in a highly fragmented industry.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>“It’s growing organically and has lots of acquisition opportunities,” says Columbia’s Cole, who considers the company to be capable of 10% to 15% annual revenue growth.</p>\n<p>The stock, around $197, has a rich valuation, trading for 43 times projected 2022 earnings of $4.54 a share.</p>\n<p>Staar Surgical(STAA) has developed an implantable lens to correct myopia (nearsightedness). That addresses a potentially huge market, given the rising global incidence of that vision problem. The company expects the lens, which has been available in Europe and Asia for at least five years, to be on the U.S. market in the fourth quarter, pending Food and Drug Administration approval.</p>\n<p>“It could do substantial volumes,’’ says Doug Brodie, a global manager at Baillie Gifford. “It’s early in a journey and is largely devoid of competition.”</p>\n<p>Lenses for both eyes can be implanted in less than an hour, and they don’t involve the removal of the natural lenses. The wholesale cost in the U.S. could be around $1,000 per lens.</p>\n<p>At a recent $138, Staar shares are richly valued at more than 20 times projected 2022 sales and 140 times estimated 2022 earnings. But the market opportunity is enormous: Some five billion people worldwide could have myopia by 2050.</p>\n<p>Stitch Fix(SFIX) has developed a subscription service for clothing, shoes, and other accessories and boasts over four million customers.</p>\n<p>“This could be the Nordstrom of the future,” says Mario Cibelli, chief investment officer at Marathon Partners Equity Management, a Stitch Fix holder. “This a potentially huge market and nobody is addressing it in the same way.” Using a staff of 6,000 personal stylists and lots of data, Stitch Fix seeks to identify subscriber tastes to generate high satisfaction and limit returns on packages sent at intervals and determined by subscribers.</p>\n<p>Its shares, around $44, are down 60% from their level earlier in the year, on investors’ worries about potential churn and the business’s ultimate profitability.</p>\n<p>Yet Cibelli sees revenue growth of 20%-plus annually, opportunities outside its current U.S. and U.K. markets, and a potentially very profitable business in two to three years.</p>\n<p>Trex(TREX) is the top producer of a high-end wood alternative for decks that comes from 95% recycled material, making it an eco-friendly housing play. The shares, at $105, trade for 43 times projected 2022 earnings.</p>\n<p>T. Rowe Price’s Spencer views Trex as worth the price, based on his view that it can generate sustainable annual revenue growth of 15% to 20%. Earnings are expected to climb by about 20% in 2022 and at a similar pace in the following years. “If you roll the clock forward three years, it doesn’t look as expensive,” he says.</p>\n<p>Upwork(UPWK), an online marketplace for freelance workers, is favored by Baillie Gifford’s Brodie, who says it offers a play on the greater acceptance of freelancers by businesses.</p>\n<p>The shares, recently around $44, aren’t cheap. Upwork is valued at $5.7 billion, or more than 10 times this year’s projected sales of nearly $500 million. It operates at a slight loss.</p>\n<p>The investment case is about rapid sales growth leading to ample earnings. Sales are expected to rise by 30%-plus this year and 25% for 2022.</p>\n<p>“Freelancers are more accepted by small to midsize business, but they’ve been frowned on by the HR departments at large businesses,” Brodie says. Upwork aims to change that perception by vetting its freelancers and by offering thousands of skill sets. “Upwork could become a trusted partner for an increasing number of enterprise-grade partners,” he says.</p>","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; charset=utf-8\" />\n<meta name=\"viewport\" content=\"width=device-width,initial-scale=1.0,minimum-scale=1.0,maximum-scale=1.0,user-scalable=no\"/>\n<meta name=\"format-detection\" content=\"telephone=no,email=no,address=no\" />\n<title>These 10 Standout Stocks Could Be the Next Amazon</title>\n<style type=\"text/css\">\na,abbr,acronym,address,applet,article,aside,audio,b,big,blockquote,body,canvas,caption,center,cite,code,dd,del,details,dfn,div,dl,dt,\nem,embed,fieldset,figcaption,figure,footer,form,h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,header,hgroup,html,i,iframe,img,ins,kbd,label,legend,li,mark,menu,nav,\nobject,ol,output,p,pre,q,ruby,s,samp,section,small,span,strike,strong,sub,summary,sup,table,tbody,td,tfoot,th,thead,time,tr,tt,u,ul,var,video{ font:inherit;margin:0;padding:0;vertical-align:baseline;border:0 }\nbody{ font-size:16px; line-height:1.5; color:#999; background:transparent; }\n.wrapper{ overflow:hidden;word-break:break-all;padding:10px; }\nh1,h2{ font-weight:normal; line-height:1.35; margin-bottom:.6em; }\nh3,h4,h5,h6{ line-height:1.35; margin-bottom:1em; }\nh1{ font-size:24px; }\nh2{ font-size:20px; }\nh3{ font-size:18px; }\nh4{ font-size:16px; }\nh5{ font-size:14px; }\nh6{ font-size:12px; }\np,ul,ol,blockquote,dl,table{ margin:1.2em 0; }\nul,ol{ margin-left:2em; }\nul{ list-style:disc; }\nol{ list-style:decimal; }\nli,li p{ margin:10px 0;}\nimg{ max-width:100%;display:block;margin:0 auto 1em; }\nblockquote{ color:#B5B2B1; border-left:3px solid #aaa; padding:1em; }\nstrong,b{font-weight:bold;}\nem,i{font-style:italic;}\ntable{ width:100%;border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:1px;margin:1em 0;font-size:.9em; }\nth,td{ padding:5px;text-align:left;border:1px solid #aaa; }\nth{ font-weight:bold;background:#5d5d5d; }\n.symbol-link{font-weight:bold;}\n/* header{ border-bottom:1px solid #494756; } */\n.title{ margin:0 0 8px;line-height:1.3;color:#ddd; }\n.meta {color:#5e5c6d;font-size:13px;margin:0 0 .5em; }\na{text-decoration:none; color:#2a4b87;}\n.meta .head { display: inline-block; overflow: hidden}\n.head .h-thumb { width: 30px; height: 30px; margin: 0; padding: 0; border-radius: 50%; float: left;}\n.head .h-content { margin: 0; padding: 0 0 0 9px; float: left;}\n.head .h-name {font-size: 13px; color: #eee; margin: 0;}\n.head .h-time {font-size: 11px; color: #7E829C; margin: 0;line-height: 11px;}\n.small {font-size: 12.5px; display: inline-block; transform: scale(0.9); -webkit-transform: scale(0.9); transform-origin: left; -webkit-transform-origin: left;}\n.smaller {font-size: 12.5px; display: inline-block; transform: scale(0.8); -webkit-transform: scale(0.8); transform-origin: left; -webkit-transform-origin: left;}\n.bt-text {font-size: 12px;margin: 1.5em 0 0 0}\n.bt-text p {margin: 0}\n</style>\n</head>\n<body>\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<header>\n<h2 class=\"title\">\nThese 10 Standout Stocks Could Be the Next Amazon\n</h2>\n\n<h4 class=\"meta\">\n\n\n2021-08-15 11:22 GMT+8 <a href=https://www.barrons.com/articles/stocks-potential-compounder-growth-51628888840?mod=hp_LEADSUPP_2><strong>Barrons</strong></a>\n\n\n</h4>\n\n</header>\n<article>\n<div>\n<p>One of the most popular buzzwords in investing today is “compounders.” Growth-oriented investors looking for the next Amazon.com, Costco Wholesale, Nike, or Visa seek to identify companies capable of ...</p>\n\n<a href=\"https://www.barrons.com/articles/stocks-potential-compounder-growth-51628888840?mod=hp_LEADSUPP_2\">Web Link</a>\n\n</div>\n\n\n</article>\n</div>\n</body>\n</html>\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMED":"阿米斯医疗","SITE":"SiteOne Landscape Supply, Inc.","UPWK":"Upwork Inc.","SFIX":"Stitch Fix Inc.","JBHT":"JB Hunt运输服务","STAA":"STAAR Surgical Company","AMRS":"阿米瑞斯","VAC":"万豪度假环球","BAH":"博思艾伦咨询公司","TREX":"Trex Co Inc"},"source_url":"https://www.barrons.com/articles/stocks-potential-compounder-growth-51628888840?mod=hp_LEADSUPP_2","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1127633167","content_text":"One of the most popular buzzwords in investing today is “compounders.” Growth-oriented investors looking for the next Amazon.com, Costco Wholesale, Nike, or Visa seek to identify companies capable of generating double-digit compound growth in revenue and earnings—preferably both—for years to come.\nThe idea is that stock prices should compound in line with revenue and profits, enabling investors to generate high returns over a holding period of five to 10 years. But the shares, around $185, are off nearly 30% after the company recently cut 2021 financial guidance, citing Covid-related staffing and cost issues, mostly in acquired hospice operations. The 2021 earnings estimate is now $6.13 a share, down from nearly $7. The stock trades for 30 times projected 2021 profits. Cole says that the company remains capable of generating 10% annual gains in earnings per share.\nAmyris(AMRS) is a leader in synthetic biology. It fans say its opportunity is to supplant, in an eco-friendly way, a range of products now made from petrochemicals, animals, and plants.\nUsing genetically re-engineered yeast and sugar cane, Amyris produces such things as squalane, a high-end moisturizer formerly made from shark livers; vanillin, the flavoring for vanilla; and a no-calorie sweetener normally derived from plants. The stock trades around $13.\nBarron’s wrote favorably on the company in July. Amyris sees sales reaching $2 billion by 2025, up from an estimated $400 million this year, driven by its consumer brands.\n“The world needs clean chemistry, and Amyris is the point on the spear to create it,” says Randy Baron, a portfolio manager at Pinnacle Associates, which owns Amyris shares. He thinks they could hit $75 by the end of 2022.\nBooz Allen Hamilton Holding(BAH) is an important consultant to the Defense Department and other agencies. The U.S. government accounted for 97% of its revenue in its latest fiscal year. Booz Allen has built robust ties to the government over the years by providing an array of services, like cybersecurity. Its stock trades around $81, for a 1.8% yield.\n“It has built a strong, partnership-like culture and has a long record of steady growth,” says Josh Spencer, manager of the T. Rowe Price New Horizons fund. He sees Booz Allen as capable of generating 9% to 10% annual growth in revenue and yearly gains of 15% to 16% in earnings, in line with its historical performance. The stock is off 20% from its peak of $100, amid concerns about more restrained military spending. Spencer sees the pullback as a buying opportunity, with the stock valued at less than 20 times earnings.\nJ.B. Hunt Transport Services(JBHT) is a leader in intermodal freight, which involves the fuel-efficient movement of trucks over rail lines. It has been one of the most successful trucking companies. Its stock has risen 30-fold over the past 20 years, to a recent $173. “It has an incredible franchise,” says Henry Ellenbogen, chief investment officer at Durable Capital Partners and a member of the Barron’s Roundtable.\nJ.B. Hunt’s relationship with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad gives it a strong position in intermodal freight, he notes. J.B. Hunt also has a growing business taking over the trucking operations of smaller companies. And it is involved in digital freight brokerage—matching truckers with shipping customers.\nEllenbogen says the stock is reasonable at 22 times estimated 2022 profits, given a mid-teens annual growth outlook for earnings.\nMarriott Vacations Worldwide(VAC) is one of the top companies in the timeshare industry. It has 700,000 owners, a resilient business model with significant revenue from fees, and more exposure than its peers to luxury properties in places including Hawaii and Orlando, Fla.\n“It has the best customer base, with the highest spending and an impeccable balance sheet,” says David Baron, a manager of the Baron Focused Growth fund. Marriott Vacations, whose shares recently were trading around $145, should reinstate its dividend later this year, he adds.\nThe shares, Baron argues, are cheap at a 11% free-cash-flow yield, based on 2022 estimates. He says that the stock, little changed since 2018, could produce 20% annual returns for shareholders in the coming years.\nSiteOne Landscape Supply(SITE) is the country’s top supplier of landscaping products, with ample opportunity to expand, given that it has just a 13% market share in a highly fragmented industry.\n\n“It’s growing organically and has lots of acquisition opportunities,” says Columbia’s Cole, who considers the company to be capable of 10% to 15% annual revenue growth.\nThe stock, around $197, has a rich valuation, trading for 43 times projected 2022 earnings of $4.54 a share.\nStaar Surgical(STAA) has developed an implantable lens to correct myopia (nearsightedness). That addresses a potentially huge market, given the rising global incidence of that vision problem. The company expects the lens, which has been available in Europe and Asia for at least five years, to be on the U.S. market in the fourth quarter, pending Food and Drug Administration approval.\n“It could do substantial volumes,’’ says Doug Brodie, a global manager at Baillie Gifford. “It’s early in a journey and is largely devoid of competition.”\nLenses for both eyes can be implanted in less than an hour, and they don’t involve the removal of the natural lenses. The wholesale cost in the U.S. could be around $1,000 per lens.\nAt a recent $138, Staar shares are richly valued at more than 20 times projected 2022 sales and 140 times estimated 2022 earnings. But the market opportunity is enormous: Some five billion people worldwide could have myopia by 2050.\nStitch Fix(SFIX) has developed a subscription service for clothing, shoes, and other accessories and boasts over four million customers.\n“This could be the Nordstrom of the future,” says Mario Cibelli, chief investment officer at Marathon Partners Equity Management, a Stitch Fix holder. “This a potentially huge market and nobody is addressing it in the same way.” Using a staff of 6,000 personal stylists and lots of data, Stitch Fix seeks to identify subscriber tastes to generate high satisfaction and limit returns on packages sent at intervals and determined by subscribers.\nIts shares, around $44, are down 60% from their level earlier in the year, on investors’ worries about potential churn and the business’s ultimate profitability.\nYet Cibelli sees revenue growth of 20%-plus annually, opportunities outside its current U.S. and U.K. markets, and a potentially very profitable business in two to three years.\nTrex(TREX) is the top producer of a high-end wood alternative for decks that comes from 95% recycled material, making it an eco-friendly housing play. The shares, at $105, trade for 43 times projected 2022 earnings.\nT. Rowe Price’s Spencer views Trex as worth the price, based on his view that it can generate sustainable annual revenue growth of 15% to 20%. Earnings are expected to climb by about 20% in 2022 and at a similar pace in the following years. “If you roll the clock forward three years, it doesn’t look as expensive,” he says.\nUpwork(UPWK), an online marketplace for freelance workers, is favored by Baillie Gifford’s Brodie, who says it offers a play on the greater acceptance of freelancers by businesses.\nThe shares, recently around $44, aren’t cheap. Upwork is valued at $5.7 billion, or more than 10 times this year’s projected sales of nearly $500 million. It operates at a slight loss.\nThe investment case is about rapid sales growth leading to ample earnings. Sales are expected to rise by 30%-plus this year and 25% for 2022.\n“Freelancers are more accepted by small to midsize business, but they’ve been frowned on by the HR departments at large businesses,” Brodie says. Upwork aims to change that perception by vetting its freelancers and by offering thousands of skill sets. “Upwork could become a trusted partner for an increasing number of enterprise-grade partners,” he says.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":267,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":161479319,"gmtCreate":1623939258531,"gmtModify":1631893817519,"author":{"id":"3572832156106721","authorId":"3572832156106721","name":"fireburry","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/af77b6b9ab1edde137d64e3c30220fc3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572832156106721","idStr":"3572832156106721"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/161479319","repostId":"1162782159","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":27,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":101767381,"gmtCreate":1619945530243,"gmtModify":1634208929821,"author":{"id":"3572832156106721","authorId":"3572832156106721","name":"fireburry","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/af77b6b9ab1edde137d64e3c30220fc3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572832156106721","idStr":"3572832156106721"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/101767381","repostId":"1103106179","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1103106179","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619917622,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1103106179?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-02 09:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting 2021: Highlights and storylines","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1103106179","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Emily McCormick·ReporterSun, May 2, 2021, 5:03 AMWarren Buffett addressed investors around the world","content":"<p>Emily McCormick·ReporterSun, May 2, 2021, 5:03 AM</p><p>Warren Buffett addressed investors around the world on Saturday at Berkshire Hathaway's 2021 Annual Shareholder Meeting.</p><p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/RN?name=RNLive&rndata={"liveId":"16196040827650"}\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Playback Live Here!</b></a></p><p>In an hours-long event, the investing legend fielded questions on Berkshire's business and investment decisions,offered advice for first-time investorsand touted the strength of American corporations in a characteristically optimistic tone.Buffett nodded to the Federal Reserveand Congress for their swift response to the COVID-19 crisis, and underscored the rebound in the U.S. economy. And the Oracle of Omaha also addressed the recent rise in retail trading andonline brokerage firmslike Robinhood,the rally in bitcoinand the boom in SPAC mergers.</p><p>In many ways, this year's meeting looked different from those in the past. The annual event took placein a hotel conference room in Los Angelesrather than in an arena in Omaha, Nebraska, due to the ongoing pandemic.</p><p>Buffett's long-time business partner Charlie Munger also returned onstage this year to co-lead the event, after sitting out last year because of the pandemic. And in a new move, Buffett and Munger were joined by Berkshire's Vice Chairmen Gregory Abel and Ajit Jain,in a signal of potential succession plans at the company.</p><p>Here were some of the highlights from the event.</p><p>—</p><p>Buffett said Berkshire Hathaway is seeing signs of rising price pressures during the COVID-19 recovery, corroborating many market participants' concerns about increasing inflationary pressures.</p><p>\"We're seeing substantial inflation. We're raising prices, people are raising prices to us. And it's being accepted,\" Buffett said. \"We really do a lot of housing. The costs are just up, up, up. Steel costs. You know, just every day they're going up.\"</p><p>\"It's an economy – really, it's red hot. And we weren't expecting it,\" he added.</p><p>—</p><p>Buffett said trading apps like Robinhoodhave contributed to the \"casino aspect\" of the stock market as of late, exploiting individuals' inclinations to gamble.</p><p>“It’s become a very significant part of the casino aspect, the casino group, that has joined into the stock market in the last year, year and a half,\" Buffett said of Robinhood. \"There’s nothing, you know, there’s nothing illegal about it, there’s nothing immoral. But I don’t think you’d build a society around people doing it.\"</p><p>\"I think the degree to which a very rich society can reward people who know how to take advantage, essentially, of the gambling instincts of the American public, the worldwide public – it’s not the most admirable part of the accomplishment,\" Buffett added. \"But I think what America has accomplished is pretty admirable overall. And I think actually American corporations have turned out to be a wonderful place for people to put their money and save. But they also make terrific gambling chips, and if you cater to those gambling chips when people have money in their pocket for the first time and you tell them take my 30 or 40 or 50 trades a day and you’re not charging commission ... I hope we don’t have more of it.”</p><p>—</p><p>Buffett explained that Berkshire's move to unload many of its bank shares last year was not due to a lack of confidence in the banking industry, but more a decision to re-balance the portfolio and avoid being too heavily tilted toward one area.</p><p>\"I like banks generally, I just didn't like the proportion compared to the possible risk,\" Buffett said. \"We were over 10% of Bank of America. It's a real pain in the neck, more to the banks than us.\"</p><p>Berkshire held 1,032,952,006 shares of Bank of America as of the end of 2020, after adding 85.1 million shares in the third quarter alone. This gave Berkshire Hathaway an ownership stake of 11.9%. Berkshire cut its holdings of Wells Fargo from 345.7 million shares at year-end 2019 to 52.4 million by year-end 2020, and completely exited its holdings in JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and M&T Bank Corp (MTB).</p><p>\"The banking business is way better than it was in the United States 10 or 15 years ago,\" he added. \"The banking business around the world in various places might worry me, but our banks are in far, far better shape than 10 or 15 years ago.\"</p><p>—</p><p>A shareholder asked Jain, who leads Berkshire's insurance business, whether he would be hypothetically willing to write an insurance policy for SpaceX founder Elon Musk for his proposed colonization of Mars.</p><p>\"This is an easy one. No thank you, I’ll pass,\" Jain said.</p><p>“Well I would say it would depend on the premium,” Buffett interjected with a laugh. \"And I would say that I would probably have a somewhat different rate if Elon was on board or not on board. It makes a difference if someone is asking to insure something.”</p><p>—</p><p>Warren Buffett declined to directly offer an opinion in response to a question on bitcoin, an assethe previously likened to \"rat poison squared.\"</p><p>\"I knew there’d be a question on bitcoin or crypto and I thought to myself well, I watch these politicians dodge questions all the time … The truth is, I’m going to dodge that question,\" Buffett said. \"Because the truth is, we’ve probably got hundreds of thousands of people that are watching this that own bitcoin. And we’ve probably got two people that are short. So we’ve got a choice of making 400,000 people mad at us and unhappy, and making two people happy. And it’s just a dumb equation.\"</p><p>Munger, however, issued a more direct attack.</p><p>\"Those who know me well are just waving the red flag at the bull. Of course I hate the bitcoin success,\" he said. \"And I don’t welcome a currency that’s so useful kidnappers and extortionists and so forth. Nor do I like shoveling out a few extra billions and billions and billions of dollars to somebody who just invented a new financial product out of thin air. So I think I should say modestly that the whole damn development is disgusting and contrary to the interest of civilization.\"</p><p>—</p><p>Both Buffett and Munger issued strong words of support for share repurchases, especially after Berkshire reported repurchasing an additional $6.6 billion in stock in the first three months of 2021.</p><p>\"They're a way, essentially, of distributing the cash to the people that want the cash when other co-owners mostly want you to reinvest,\" Buffett said. \"It's a savings vehicle.\"</p><p>\"I find it almost impossible to believe some of the arguments that are made that it's terrible to repurchase shares from a partner if they want to get out of something, and you're able to do it at prices that are advantages to the people that are staying,\" Buffett said. \"And it helps slightly the person that wants out.\"</p><p>Munger offered a similar view.</p><p>\"You're repurchasing stock. Just a bullet higher, it's deeply immoral,\" Munger said. \"But if you're repurchasing stock because it's a fair thing to do in the interest of your existing shareholders, it's a highly moral act and the people who are criticizing it are bonkers.\"</p><p>—</p><p>Low interest rates have catalyzed a surge in valuations across equities, giving those who invest in the markets an opportunity to create wealth, Munger said during the Berkshire Hathaway question and answer segment.</p><p>\"I think one consequence of this present situation is, Bernie Sanders has basically won,\" Munger says. \"Because with everything boomed out so high and interest rates so low, what's going to happen is, the millennial generation is going to have a hell of a time getting rich compared to our generation ... He did it by accident, but he won.\"</p><p>\"And so the difference between the difference between the rich and the poor in the generation that's rising is going to be a lot less,\" he added. \"So Bernie has won.\"</p><p>—</p><p>Buffett received a question around special purpose acquisition companies, or blank-check companies, which have become a hugely popular means for firms to go public over the past year.</p><p>\"The SPACs generally have to spend their money in two years, as I understand it. If you have to buy a business in two years, you put a gun to my head and said you've got to buy a business in two years, I'd buy one but it wouldn't be much of one,\" Buffett.</p><p>\"If you're running money from somebody else and you get a fee and you get the upside and you don't have the downside, you're going to buy something,\" he added. \"And frankly we're not competitive with that.\"</p><p>\"It's an exaggerated version of what we've seen in kind of a gambling-type market,\" he added.</p><p>—</p><p>Buffett conceded that selling some of Apple's stock in 2020 was \"probably a mistake,\" with shares rising even further this year following the tech-led 2020 in the markets.</p><p>\"The brand and the product — it's an incredible product,\" Buffett said of Apple. \"It is indispensable to people.\"</p><p>\"I sold some stock last year, although our shareholders still saw their shares go up because we repurchased shares,\" he added. \"But that was probably a mistake.\"</p><p>Berkshire owned 907,559,761 shares of Appleas of the end of December for a total market value of $120.4 billion. By contrast, the firm spent just $31 billion accumulating this stake since late 2016.</p><p>—</p><p>A shareholder directed a question to Ajit Jain and Greg Abel asking about the relationship the two likely next leaders of Berkshire Hathaway have with one another, given how iconic the relationship between Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger has been over the course of the company's history.</p><p>\"There's no question the relationship Warren has with Charlie is unique,\" Jain said. \"It's not going to be duplicated, certainly not by me and Greg. I can't think of anybody that can duplicate it.\"</p><p>\"I certainly have a lot of respect, both at a professional level and personal level, in terms of what Greg's abilities are,\" Jain added. \"We do not interact with each other as often as Warren and Charlie do. But every quarter we will talk to each other about our respective decision.\"</p><p>\"Even though the interaction may be different than say how Warren and Charlie do it ... we make sure we're always following up with each other but it goes beyond that,\" Abel said. \"Ajit has a great understanding of the Berkshire culture. I strongly believe I do too.\"</p><p>—</p><p>One shareholder asked Buffett about Berkshire's decision to invest in the oil and gas industry, and queried whether we might have \"build our own unrealistic consensus on the pace of change\" to clean energy solutions. Buffett defended the company's investment in the industry and in Chevron specifically, whichwas a relatively recent investment for the firm.</p><p>\"I would say that people are on the extremes of both sides are a little nuts. I would hate to have all the hydrocarbons banned in three years,\" Buffett said. \"You wouldn't want a world — it wouldn't work. And on the other hand, what's happening will be adapted to over time just as we've adapted to all kinds of things.\"</p><p>\"We have no problem owning Costco or Walmart and a substantial number of their stores. And they sell cigarettes, it's a big item,\" he added as an analogy. \"It's a very tough situation ... It's a very tough time to decide what companies benefit societies more than others.\"</p><p>\"I don't like making the moral judgments on stocks in terms of actually running the businesses, but there's something about every business that you knew that you wouldn't like,\" he added. \"If you expect perfection in your spouse or in your friends or in companies you're not going to find it.\"</p><p>\"Chevron is not an evil company in the least, and I have no compunction about owning it in the least, about owning Chevron,\" Buffett concluded. \"And if we owned the entire business I would not feel uncomfortable about being in that business.\"</p><p>Answering a subsequent question about the Berkshire board of directors' recommendation to voteagainst reporting climate-related risks, Munger added, \"I don't know we know the answer to all these questions about global warming.\"</p><p>\"The people who ask the questions think they know the answer. We're just more modest.\"</p><p>—</p><p>Most investors would benefit from simply purchasing an S&P 500 index fund over the long run rather than picking individual stocks, even including Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett said during the question-and-answer session Saturday.</p><p>\"I recommend the S&P 500 index fund … I’ve never recommended Berkshire to anybody because I don’t want people to buy it because they think I’m tipping them into something,\" he said. \"On my death there's a fund for my then-widow and 90% will go into an S&P 500 index fund.\"</p><p>\"I do not think the average person can pick stocks,\" he added. \"We happen to have a large group of people that didn't pick stocks but they picked Charlie and me to manage money for them 50, 60 years ago. So we have a very unusual group of shareholders I think who look at Berkshire as a lifetime savings vehicle and one that they don’t have to think about and one that they'll, you know, they don't look at it again for 10 to 20 years.\"</p><p>Charlie Munger, on the other hand, had a different perspective.</p><p>\"I personally prefer holding Berkshire to holding the market,\" he said in response to the same question. \"I’m quite comfortable holding Berkshire. I think our businesses are better than the average in the market.\"</p><p>—</p><p>Buffett reiterated a staunchly supportive stance of U.S. corporations and capitalism in his opening remarks, highlighting that five of the six largest companies in the world by market capitalization currently comprise domestic companies. Those five companies are Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Facebook, with only Saudi Aramco of Saudi Arabia coming in as a non-U.S. mega-cap company in the top six.</p><p>But only a couple hundred years ago, the U.S. looked like the underdog.</p><p>\"In 1790 we had one-half of 1% of the world's population,\" Buffett said. \"600,000 of them were slaves. Ireland had more people than the United States had. Russia had five times as many people. Ukraine had twice as many people.\"</p><p>\"But here we were. What did we have? We had a map for the future, an aspirational map that somehow now only 232 years later, leaves us with five of the top six companies in the world,\" he said. \"It's not an accident. And it's not because we were way smarter, way stronger or anything of the sort. We had good soil, decent climate, but so did some of the other countries I named. This system has worked very well.\"</p><p>—</p><p>In opening remarks at the start of Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholder meeting, Buffett credited the U.S. economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis toswift action by the Federal Reserve and Congress.</p><p>\"The economy went off a cliff in March. It was resurrected in an extraordinarily effective way by Federal Reserve action and later on the fiscal front by Congress,\" Buffett said in opening remarks at Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting.\"</p><p>He added that Berkshire Hathaway's own business has picked up tremendously alongside the broader economy, and suggested businesses like airlines were still among those most deeply affected by lingering effects from the pandemic.</p><p>\"Our businesses have done really quite well. This has been a very, very, very unusual recession in that it's been localized ... to an extraordinary extent. Right now business is really very good in a great many segments of the economy,\" he added. \"But there's still problems if you're in a few types of businesses that have been decimated such as international air travel or something of the sort.\"</p><p>—</p><p>The CEO of See's Candies, one of the longstanding companies owned by Berkshire Hathaway, told Yahoo Finance that the companyhas seen a strong rebound at the start of 2021. However, last year, business virtually ground to a halt.</p><p>\"This has been the longest decade of my life. We've been through a lot. Last year – it's a tale of a couple of different quarters. The first quarter was tremendous,\" See's Candies CEO Pat Egan said in an interview with Yahoo Finance's Julia La Roche ahead of the start of Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting. \"In the middle of March, when this [pandemic] really hit, we shut down all of our stores in a span of five days. So about 245 stores we closed in a matter of days. And then about a week and a half later, we closed our e-commerce fulfillment center down in Southern California. So for a period of time there, we essentially completely stopped.\"</p><p>\"We just said, we're not going to reopen stores or reopen plants until we can create a safe operating environment for our employees,\" he added. \"That took a while, and by the time we restored over the summer we saw customers coming back in. But for that period of time, it was pretty rough.\"</p><p>See's Candies just completed its \"best first quarter ever\" at the start of 2021, Egan added.</p><p>—</p><p>Berkshire Hathawayreported first-quarter results Saturday morning, underscoring arebound in profits across the firm's businesses amid the COVID-19 recovery. And the Oracle of Omaha also addressed the recent rise in retail trading andonline brokerage firmslike Robinhood,the rally in bitcoinand the boom in SPAC mergers.In many ways, this year's meeting looked different from those in the past. The annual event took placein a hotel conference room in Los Angelesrather than in an arena in Omaha, Nebraska, due to the ongoing pandemic.Buffett's long-time business partner Charlie Munger also returned onstage this year to co-lead the event, after sitting out last year because of the pandemic. And in a new move, Buffett and Munger were joined by Berkshire's Vice Chairmen Gregory Abel and Ajit Jain,in a signal of potential succession plans at the company.Here were some of the highlights from the event.—Buffett said Berkshire Hathaway is seeing signs of rising price pressures during the COVID-19 recovery, corroborating many market participants' concerns about increasing inflationary pressures.\"We're seeing substantial inflation. We're raising prices, people are raising prices to us. And it's being accepted,\" Buffett said. \"We really do a lot of housing. The costs are just up, up, up. Steel costs. You know, just every day they're going up.\"\"It's an economy – really, it's red hot. And we weren't expecting it,\" he added.—Buffett said trading apps like Robinhoodhave contributed to the \"casino aspect\" of the stock market as of late, exploiting individuals' inclinations to gamble.“It’s become a very significant part of the casino aspect, the casino group, that has joined into the stock market in the last year, year and a half,\" Buffett said of Robinhood. \"There’s nothing, you know, there’s nothing illegal about it, there’s nothing immoral. But I don’t think you’d build a society around people doing it.\"\"I think the degree to which a very rich society can reward people who know how to take advantage, essentially, of the gambling instincts of the American public, the worldwide public – it’s not the most admirable part of the accomplishment,\" Buffett added. \"But I think what America has accomplished is pretty admirable overall. And I think actually American corporations have turned out to be a wonderful place for people to put their money and save. But they also make terrific gambling chips, and if you cater to those gambling chips when people have money in their pocket for the first time and you tell them take my 30 or 40 or 50 trades a day and you’re not charging commission ... I hope we don’t have more of it.”—Buffett explained that Berkshire's move to unload many of its bank shares last year was not due to a lack of confidence in the banking industry, but more a decision to re-balance the portfolio and avoid being too heavily tilted toward one area.\"I like banks generally, I just didn't like the proportion compared to the possible risk,\" Buffett said. \"We were over 10% of Bank of America. It's a real pain in the neck, more to the banks than us.\"Berkshire held 1,032,952,006 shares of Bank of America as of the end of 2020, after adding 85.1 million shares in the third quarter alone. This gave Berkshire Hathaway an ownership stake of 11.9%. Berkshire cut its holdings of Wells Fargo from 345.7 million shares at year-end 2019 to 52.4 million by year-end 2020, and completely exited its holdings in JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and M&T Bank Corp (MTB).\"The banking business is way better than it was in the United States 10 or 15 years ago,\" he added. \"The banking business around the world in various places might worry me, but our banks are in far, far better shape than 10 or 15 years ago.\"—A shareholder asked Jain, who leads Berkshire's insurance business, whether he would be hypothetically willing to write an insurance policy for SpaceX founder Elon Musk for his proposed colonization of Mars.\"This is an easy one. No thank you, I’ll pass,\" Jain said.“Well I would say it would depend on the premium,” Buffett interjected with a laugh. \"And I would say that I would probably have a somewhat different rate if Elon was on board or not on board. It makes a difference if someone is asking to insure something.”—Warren Buffett declined to directly offer an opinion in response to a question on bitcoin, an assethe previously likened to \"rat poison squared.\"\"I knew there’d be a question on bitcoin or crypto and I thought to myself well, I watch these politicians dodge questions all the time … The truth is, I’m going to dodge that question,\" Buffett said. \"Because the truth is, we’ve probably got hundreds of thousands of people that are watching this that own bitcoin. And we’ve probably got two people that are short. So we’ve got a choice of making 400,000 people mad at us and unhappy, and making two people happy. And it’s just a dumb equation.\"Munger, however, issued a more direct attack.\"Those who know me well are just waving the red flag at the bull. Of course I hate the bitcoin success,\" he said. \"And I don’t welcome a currency that’s so useful kidnappers and extortionists and so forth. Nor do I like shoveling out a few extra billions and billions and billions of dollars to somebody who just invented a new financial product out of thin air. So I think I should say modestly that the whole damn development is disgusting and contrary to the interest of civilization.\"—Both Buffett and Munger issued strong words of support for share repurchases, especially after Berkshire reported repurchasing an additional $6.6 billion in stock in the first three months of 2021.\"They're a way, essentially, of distributing the cash to the people that want the cash when other co-owners mostly want you to reinvest,\" Buffett said. \"It's a savings vehicle.\"\"I find it almost impossible to believe some of the arguments that are made that it's terrible to repurchase shares from a partner if they want to get out of something, and you're able to do it at prices that are advantages to the people that are staying,\" Buffett said. \"And it helps slightly the person that wants out.\"Munger offered a similar view.\"You're repurchasing stock. Just a bullet higher, it's deeply immoral,\" Munger said. \"But if you're repurchasing stock because it's a fair thing to do in the interest of your existing shareholders, it's a highly moral act and the people who are criticizing it are bonkers.\"—Low interest rates have catalyzed a surge in valuations across equities, giving those who invest in the markets an opportunity to create wealth, Munger said during the Berkshire Hathaway question and answer segment.\"I think one consequence of this present situation is, Bernie Sanders has basically won,\" Munger says. \"Because with everything boomed out so high and interest rates so low, what's going to happen is, the millennial generation is going to have a hell of a time getting rich compared to our generation ... He did it by accident, but he won.\"\"And so the difference between the difference between the rich and the poor in the generation that's rising is going to be a lot less,\" he added. \"So Bernie has won.\"—Buffett received a question around special purpose acquisition companies, or blank-check companies, which have become a hugely popular means for firms to go public over the past year.\"The SPACs generally have to spend their money in two years, as I understand it. If you have to buy a business in two years, you put a gun to my head and said you've got to buy a business in two years, I'd buy one but it wouldn't be much of one,\" Buffett.\"If you're running money from somebody else and you get a fee and you get the upside and you don't have the downside, you're going to buy something,\" he added. \"And frankly we're not competitive with that.\"\"It's an exaggerated version of what we've seen in kind of a gambling-type market,\" he added.—Buffett conceded that selling some of Apple's stock in 2020 was \"probably a mistake,\" with shares rising even further this year following the tech-led 2020 in the markets.\"The brand and the product — it's an incredible product,\" Buffett said of Apple. \"It is indispensable to people.\"\"I sold some stock last year, although our shareholders still saw their shares go up because we repurchased shares,\" he added. \"But that was probably a mistake.\"Berkshire owned 907,559,761 shares of Appleas of the end of December for a total market value of $120.4 billion. By contrast, the firm spent just $31 billion accumulating this stake since late 2016.—A shareholder directed a question to Ajit Jain and Greg Abel asking about the relationship the two likely next leaders of Berkshire Hathaway have with one another, given how iconic the relationship between Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger has been over the course of the company's history.\"There's no question the relationship Warren has with Charlie is unique,\" Jain said. \"It's not going to be duplicated, certainly not by me and Greg. I can't think of anybody that can duplicate it.\"\"I certainly have a lot of respect, both at a professional level and personal level, in terms of what Greg's abilities are,\" Jain added. \"We do not interact with each other as often as Warren and Charlie do. But every quarter we will talk to each other about our respective decision.\"\"Even though the interaction may be different than say how Warren and Charlie do it ... we make sure we're always following up with each other but it goes beyond that,\" Abel said. \"Ajit has a great understanding of the Berkshire culture. I strongly believe I do too.\"—One shareholder asked Buffett about Berkshire's decision to invest in the oil and gas industry, and queried whether we might have \"build our own unrealistic consensus on the pace of change\" to clean energy solutions. Buffett defended the company's investment in the industry and in Chevron specifically, whichwas a relatively recent investment for the firm.\"I would say that people are on the extremes of both sides are a little nuts. I would hate to have all the hydrocarbons banned in three years,\" Buffett said. \"You wouldn't want a world — it wouldn't work. And on the other hand, what's happening will be adapted to over time just as we've adapted to all kinds of things.\"\"We have no problem owning Costco or Walmart and a substantial number of their stores. And they sell cigarettes, it's a big item,\" he added as an analogy. \"It's a very tough situation ... It's a very tough time to decide what companies benefit societies more than others.\"\"I don't like making the moral judgments on stocks in terms of actually running the businesses, but there's something about every business that you knew that you wouldn't like,\" he added. \"If you expect perfection in your spouse or in your friends or in companies you're not going to find it.\"\"Chevron is not an evil company in the least, and I have no compunction about owning it in the least, about owning Chevron,\" Buffett concluded. \"And if we owned the entire business I would not feel uncomfortable about being in that business.\"Answering a subsequent question about the Berkshire board of directors' recommendation to voteagainst reporting climate-related risks, Munger added, \"I don't know we know the answer to all these questions about global warming.\"\"The people who ask the questions think they know the answer. We're just more modest.\"—Most investors would benefit from simply purchasing an S&P 500 index fund over the long run rather than picking individual stocks, even including Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett said during the question-and-answer session Saturday.\"I recommend the S&P 500 index fund … I’ve never recommended Berkshire to anybody because I don’t want people to buy it because they think I’m tipping them into something,\" he said. \"On my death there's a fund for my then-widow and 90% will go into an S&P 500 index fund.\"\"I do not think the average person can pick stocks,\" he added. \"We happen to have a large group of people that didn't pick stocks but they picked Charlie and me to manage money for them 50, 60 years ago. So we have a very unusual group of shareholders I think who look at Berkshire as a lifetime savings vehicle and one that they don’t have to think about and one that they'll, you know, they don't look at it again for 10 to 20 years.\"Charlie Munger, on the other hand, had a different perspective.\"I personally prefer holding Berkshire to holding the market,\" he said in response to the same question. \"I’m quite comfortable holding Berkshire. I think our businesses are better than the average in the market.\"—Buffett reiterated a staunchly supportive stance of U.S. corporations and capitalism in his opening remarks, highlighting that five of the six largest companies in the world by market capitalization currently comprise domestic companies. Those five companies are Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Facebook, with only Saudi Aramco of Saudi Arabia coming in as a non-U.S. mega-cap company in the top six.But only a couple hundred years ago, the U.S. looked like the underdog.\"In 1790 we had one-half of 1% of the world's population,\" Buffett said. \"600,000 of them were slaves. Ireland had more people than the United States had. Russia had five times as many people. Ukraine had twice as many people.\"\"But here we were. What did we have? We had a map for the future, an aspirational map that somehow now only 232 years later, leaves us with five of the top six companies in the world,\" he said. \"It's not an accident. And it's not because we were way smarter, way stronger or anything of the sort. We had good soil, decent climate, but so did some of the other countries I named. This system has worked very well.\"—In opening remarks at the start of Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholder meeting, Buffett credited the U.S. economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis toswift action by the Federal Reserve and Congress.\"The economy went off a cliff in March. It was resurrected in an extraordinarily effective way by Federal Reserve action and later on the fiscal front by Congress,\" Buffett said in opening remarks at Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting.\"He added that Berkshire Hathaway's own business has picked up tremendously alongside the broader economy, and suggested businesses like airlines were still among those most deeply affected by lingering effects from the pandemic.\"Our businesses have done really quite well. This has been a very, very, very unusual recession in that it's been localized ... to an extraordinary extent. Right now business is really very good in a great many segments of the economy,\" he added. \"But there's still problems if you're in a few types of businesses that have been decimated such as international air travel or something of the sort.\"—The CEO of See's Candies, one of the longstanding companies owned by Berkshire Hathaway, told Yahoo Finance that the companyhas seen a strong rebound at the start of 2021. However, last year, business virtually ground to a halt.\"This has been the longest decade of my life. We've been through a lot. Last year – it's a tale of a couple of different quarters. The first quarter was tremendous,\" See's Candies CEO Pat Egan said in an interview with Yahoo Finance's Julia La Roche ahead of the start of Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting. \"In the middle of March, when this [pandemic] really hit, we shut down all of our stores in a span of five days. So about 245 stores we closed in a matter of days. And then about a week and a half later, we closed our e-commerce fulfillment center down in Southern California. So for a period of time there, we essentially completely stopped.\"\"We just said, we're not going to reopen stores or reopen plants until we can create a safe operating environment for our employees,\" he added. \"That took a while, and by the time we restored over the summer we saw customers coming back in. But for that period of time, it was pretty rough.\"See's Candies just completed its \"best first quarter ever\" at the start of 2021, Egan added.—Berkshire Hathawayreported first-quarter results Saturday morning, underscoring arebound in profits across the firm's businesses amid the COVID-19 recovery. Berkshire also reported that it conducted another $6.6 billion of stock buybacks, extending its ramped-up share repurchase program from 2020.Operating income during the first three months of the year increased to $7.02 billion, rising 19.5% compared to the $5.87 billion posted in the first quarter of 2020. (AAL) has seen a dramatic decline in passenger demand in the past year as the COVID-19 pandemic prompted many would-be travelers to stay home. The company's passenger volume in 2020 was less than half the 215 million people it transported a year earlier. On top of these financial pressures, American Airlines also faces an antitrust probe by the U.S. Department of Justice into its partnership with JetBlue Airways Corp. (JBLU) over concerns that the agreement may inflate passenger fares.</p>\n<p>Investors will look for how American Airlines addressing these challenges when the company reports Q1 FY 2021 earnings before the market open on April 22. Analysts predict that adjusted losses per share (EPS) will widen significantly year-over-year (YOY) as revenue falls for a fifth consecutive quarter.</p>\n<p>A key metric that investors may focus on in the earnings report is American Airlines' passenger load factor, a measure of airline efficiency that reflects the percentage of American Airlines' seating capacity that is being used. Analysts expect load factor to fall YOY and to be slightly lower than the latest reported quarter, which is Q4 FY 2020.</p>\n<p>American Airlines' stock has experienced multiple periods of intense volatility in the past year. In June 2020, shares surged ahead of the market, only to fall behind the next month. The stock largely traded sideways until it began a long rally in late October 2020. American's shares outperformed the market between December and mid-March, although they have fallen back somewhat in recent weeks. As of April 20, American Airlines has provided a 1-year trailing total return of 84.2%, far ahead of the S&P 500's total return of 46.5%.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a772a4903ebcc543efb55c065efb3928\" tg-width=\"2244\" tg-height=\"1210\"><span>Source: TradingView.</span></p>\n<h2>American Airlines Earning History </h2>\n<p>American Airlines' stock has been buoyed in recent months by its recent earnings history along with investor optimism about new COVID-19 vaccines and an emerging economic recovery. While the company posted four consecutive quarters of adjusted losses per share in FY 2020, American Airlines' losses narrowed significantly in Q3 and Q4. After American's Q3 earnings report in October, the stock initially dipped and then more than doubled over the next five months through the end of March 2021. But now, analysts predict that American's earnings recovery will reverse. They see Q1 FY 2021 adjusted losses per share widening YOY, and also on a sequential basis relative to Q4 FY 2020.</p>\n<p>American Airlines has also reported four straight quarters of YOY revenue declines, also the first in several years. Revenue dipped by 19.6% YOY for Q1 FY 2020, a reflection of the impact of the pandemic on the later portion of that quarter. Revenue then plunged 86.4% in Q2 FY 2020, followed by a 73.4% drop in Q3 and 64.4% in Q4. Analysts expect the size of the decline to be less in Q1 FY 2021, but still down 52.2% YOY.</p>\n<table>\n <colgroup span=\"1\"></colgroup>\n <colgroup span=\"1\"></colgroup>\n <colgroup span=\"1\"></colgroup>\n <colgroup span=\"1\"></colgroup>\n <thead>\n <tr>\n <th colspan=\"4\">American Airlines Key Stats</th>\n </tr>\n </thead>\n <tbody>\n <tr>\n <td></td>\n <td>Estimate for Q1 FY 2021</td>\n <td>Q1 FY 2020</td>\n <td>Q1 FY 2019</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Adjusted EPS</td>\n <td>-$4.26</td>\n <td>-$2.65</td>\n <td>$0.52</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Revenue (billions)</td>\n <td>$4.1</td>\n <td>$8.5</td>\n <td>$10.6</td>\n </tr>\n <tr>\n <td>Load factor</td>\n <td>63.5%</td>\n <td>72.7%</td>\n <td>82.2%</td>\n </tr>\n </tbody>\n</table>\n<h2>The Key Metric </h2>\n<p>As mentioned, American Airlines investors are likely to look to the company's load factor as well. This key metric for the airline industry is a measure of the percentage of available seating capacity that is filled with passengers. Higher load factors indicate a higher percentage of seats that are occupied by passengers. Airlines experience roughly fixed costs to send an aircraft into flight regardless of the number of passengers on board, so there is an incentive to fill as many seats as possible in order to better distribute those costs. For this reason, a higher load factor is a sign of greater efficiency and profitability. In the past year, however, there have been strong pressures against load factor, primarily because the COVID-19 pandemic has turned the above logic on its head. Fuller planes are seen as worse from a public health perspective during a pandemic. As fewer passengers travel and load factor drops, companies like American Airlines face a profitability crisis.</p>\n<p>American Airlines' load factor has fallen sharply during the pandemic. In the three years prior to 2020, the company regularly reported a load factor in the 80s. This metric first began to fall in Q1 FY 2020, when the company reported a load factor of 72.7%. That dropped to a low of 42.3% in Q2 and then recovered somewhat through the second half of the year, reaching 64.1% for Q4. (AAL) has seen a dramatic decline in passenger demand in the past year as the COVID-19 pandemic prompted many would-be travelers to stay home. The company's passenger volume in 2020 was less than half the 215 million people it transported a year earlier. On top of these financial pressures, American Airlines also faces an antitrust probe by the U.S. Department of Justice into its partnership with JetBlue Airways Corp. (JBLU) over concerns that the agreement may inflate passenger fares.\nInvestors will look for how American Airlines addressing these challenges when the company reports Q1 FY 2021 earnings before the market open on April 22. Analysts predict that adjusted losses per share (EPS) will widen significantly year-over-year (YOY) as revenue falls for a fifth consecutive quarter.\nA key metric that investors may focus on in the earnings report is American Airlines' passenger load factor, a measure of airline efficiency that reflects the percentage of American Airlines' seating capacity that is being used. Analysts expect load factor to fall YOY and to be slightly lower than the latest reported quarter, which is Q4 FY 2020.\nAmerican Airlines' stock has experienced multiple periods of intense volatility in the past year. In June 2020, shares surged ahead of the market, only to fall behind the next month. The stock largely traded sideways until it began a long rally in late October 2020. American's shares outperformed the market between December and mid-March, although they have fallen back somewhat in recent weeks. As of April 20, American Airlines has provided a 1-year trailing total return of 84.2%, far ahead of the S&P 500's total return of 46.5%.\nSource: TradingView.\nAmerican Airlines Earning History \nAmerican Airlines' stock has been buoyed in recent months by its recent earnings history along with investor optimism about new COVID-19 vaccines and an emerging economic recovery. While the company posted four consecutive quarters of adjusted losses per share in FY 2020, American Airlines' losses narrowed significantly in Q3 and Q4. After American's Q3 earnings report in October, the stock initially dipped and then more than doubled over the next five months through the end of March 2021. But now, analysts predict that American's earnings recovery will reverse. They see Q1 FY 2021 adjusted losses per share widening YOY, and also on a sequential basis relative to Q4 FY 2020.\nAmerican Airlines has also reported four straight quarters of YOY revenue declines, also the first in several years. Revenue dipped by 19.6% YOY for Q1 FY 2020, a reflection of the impact of the pandemic on the later portion of that quarter. Revenue then plunged 86.4% in Q2 FY 2020, followed by a 73.4% drop in Q3 and 64.4% in Q4. Analysts expect the size of the decline to be less in Q1 FY 2021, but still down 52.2% YOY.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmerican Airlines Key Stats\n\n\n\n\n\nEstimate for Q1 FY 2021\nQ1 FY 2020\nQ1 FY 2019\n\n\nAdjusted EPS\n-$4.26\n-$2.65\n$0.52\n\n\nRevenue (billions)\n$4.1\n$8.5\n$10.6\n\n\nLoad factor\n63.5%\n72.7%\n82.2%\n\n\n\nThe Key Metric \nAs mentioned, American Airlines investors are likely to look to the company's load factor as well. This key metric for the airline industry is a measure of the percentage of available seating capacity that is filled with passengers. Higher load factors indicate a higher percentage of seats that are occupied by passengers. Airlines experience roughly fixed costs to send an aircraft into flight regardless of the number of passengers on board, so there is an incentive to fill as many seats as possible in order to better distribute those costs. For this reason, a higher load factor is a sign of greater efficiency and profitability. In the past year, however, there have been strong pressures against load factor, primarily because the COVID-19 pandemic has turned the above logic on its head. Fuller planes are seen as worse from a public health perspective during a pandemic. As fewer passengers travel and load factor drops, companies like American Airlines face a profitability crisis.\nAmerican Airlines' load factor has fallen sharply during the pandemic. In the three years prior to 2020, the company regularly reported a load factor in the 80s. This metric first began to fall in Q1 FY 2020, when the company reported a load factor of 72.7%. That dropped to a low of 42.3% in Q2 and then recovered somewhat through the second half of the year, reaching 64.1% for Q4. Analysts now estimate that American's progress in turning around its load factor will essentially halt. In Q1 FY 2021, they estimate that load factor will fall slightly, to 63.5%, on a sequential basis. That number also will be down sharply from 72.7% in the same quarter a year earlier.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":38,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":357843685,"gmtCreate":1617263465947,"gmtModify":1631890196224,"author":{"id":"3572832156106721","authorId":"3572832156106721","name":"fireburry","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/af77b6b9ab1edde137d64e3c30220fc3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572832156106721","idStr":"3572832156106721"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SHMP\">$NaturalShrimp Incorporated(SHMP)$</a>Buy it’s gonna go up a lot ","listText":"<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SHMP\">$NaturalShrimp Incorporated(SHMP)$</a>Buy it’s gonna go up a lot ","text":"$NaturalShrimp Incorporated(SHMP)$Buy it’s gonna go up a lot","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/70f112d01a9acb85823cfcee5c7589bf","width":"750","height":"1068"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/357843685","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":88,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":355185446,"gmtCreate":1617036086185,"gmtModify":1634522976734,"author":{"id":"3572832156106721","authorId":"3572832156106721","name":"fireburry","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/af77b6b9ab1edde137d64e3c30220fc3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572832156106721","idStr":"3572832156106721"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Bad result ","listText":"Bad result ","text":"Bad result","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e31f05ceeea72199d6f571890ae31457","width":"750","height":"2294"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/355185446","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":51,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":355185256,"gmtCreate":1617036068975,"gmtModify":1634522976857,"author":{"id":"3572832156106721","authorId":"3572832156106721","name":"fireburry","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/af77b6b9ab1edde137d64e3c30220fc3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572832156106721","idStr":"3572832156106721"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Bad result ","listText":"Bad result ","text":"Bad result","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/355185256","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":24,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":352053649,"gmtCreate":1616836698781,"gmtModify":1634523761361,"author":{"id":"3572832156106721","authorId":"3572832156106721","name":"fireburry","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/af77b6b9ab1edde137d64e3c30220fc3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572832156106721","idStr":"3572832156106721"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"nice ","listText":"nice ","text":"nice","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6e41c9c7ac0a33c270caed9bb9873660","width":"1125","height":"2396"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/352053649","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":22,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":358320378,"gmtCreate":1616664320894,"gmtModify":1631885358431,"author":{"id":"3572832156106721","authorId":"3572832156106721","name":"fireburry","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/af77b6b9ab1edde137d64e3c30220fc3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572832156106721","idStr":"3572832156106721"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/FUSE\">$Fusion Acquisition Corp(FUSE)$</a>Lousy","listText":"<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/FUSE\">$Fusion Acquisition Corp(FUSE)$</a>Lousy","text":"$Fusion Acquisition Corp(FUSE)$Lousy","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85cb86b461921bc1b310e644f4139fd6","width":"750","height":"1068"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/358320378","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":313,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
