remarkable year in which the electric-car company’s market value zoomed past $1 trillion.

Deliveries are one of the most closely watched metrics at Tesla: They underpin the company’s financial results and are widely seen as a barometer of consumer demand for electric vehicles amid a global shift away from the internal combustion engine. Being at the forefront of that wave helped make Musk, Tesla’s chief executive officer, the world’s richest person this year, with a fortune of about $273 billion.

The Austin, Texas-based carmaker typically counts sales until midnight on the last day of a quarter, which in this case means New Year’s Eve. On average, a dozen analysts in a Bloomberg survey estimate Tesla may report about 265,000 deliveries -- and more-recent updates, such as a 290,000 prediction last week from Dan Levy of Credit Suisse, suggest the number may skew higher. That’s up from the record 241,300 set in the third quarter.

Tesla employees typically go all out in the final days of a quarter, with volunteers from local owners clubs dropping by with donuts or volunteering to help. Musk egged them on in one of his many tweets, thanking staff last week for working during the holidays and noting “lots of Tesla cars to deliver before year end!’

Tesla makes the Models S, X, 3 and Y at its auto plant in Fremont, California. It also produces the Models 3 and Y at a factory near Shanghai, which makes cars for China and Europe. The output from the Asia factory will be crucial to both the delivery figure and the company’s gross margins.

In 2022, Tesla will open two additional assembly factories -- one in Austin and one in Berlin -- allowing it to manufacture vehicles on three continents and expand production capacity.

Joseph Spak, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, expects Tesla to deliver 285,000 units. If he’s right, that would bring Tesla’s total deliveries for the year to roughly 913,000.

In 2020, the company delivered just shy of half a million vehicles for the year and Tesla has said repeatedly it expects 50% annual growth in deliveries over a multi-year period.

A strong quarter would show that Tesla is holding up well amid supply-chain turmoil, the highly contagious omicron variant and snowstorms that have clobbered much of the West Coast.

Musk has said that shortages of semiconductors are crimping production -- going so far as to call out two of the world’s biggest chip suppliers. But it has fared better than other auto makers due in part to efforts by its engineers to rewrite software to adapt to whatever chips they could find for other purposes.

It could also give a boost to the company’s stock, which has fallen more than 12% from its Nov. 4 closing high as Musk offloaded a big chunk of his stake in the company.

After a Nov. 6 Twitter poll, in which the CEO asked his followers if he should sell 10% of his holdings and they voted yes, Musk has sold approximately 15.6 million shares. RIVN shares would go on to hit an intra-day high of $179.47 six days later before falling back to earth to trade at $118.11 on Tuesday's intraday session. Amazingly, RIVN still boasts a market cap of $115 billion, a no mean feat for a company that currently generates nearly zero revenue.
\n
The latest crash appears closely connected to last week's announcement that Rivian and Ford Motors (NYSE:F) have shelved plans to collaborate on developing an electric vehicle, with each company opting to go solo.
\n
However, parsing through the comments from Ford CEO Jim Farley in an interview with Automotive News reveals that this could actually be a positive for Rivian, and not something negative as the market appears to infer.
\n
\"Both their EV development and ours have advanced to a significant degree since the original deal was formed, giving each company more confidence to move ahead independently,\" a Ford representative has told the Wall Street Journal.
\n
Here are three other reasons why we remain largely bullish about RIVN despite the latest selloff.
\n
#1. The Ford/Amazon Investments
\n
Indeed, the latest slide suggests that the market is glossing over just how deeply Rivian and Ford are connected: Ford has a large monetary stake in Rivian.
\n
The giant automaker paid a total of $820 million for Rivian's Series B and D offerings and also bought $415 million of the EV maker's convertible debt offering. Those early investments are now worth over $13 billion, meaning Ford owns a ~12% stake in Rivian and 10.5% of the voting power.
\n
But Ford is just one of the large institutional investors who have placed their faith in Rivian, with eCommerce giant Amazon Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) being the other.
\n
Amazon participated in no less than four funding rounds for Rivian, paying $1.35 billion, and also bought $490 million in convertible debt before buying 2.56 million shares worth $200M at the IPO. Overall, Amazon owns an 18.5% stake in Rivian after the IPO and holds 16.9% of the voting power.
\n
Both Ford and Amazon are large, deep-pocketed investors who are unlikely to engage in panic selling at the first signs of trouble. This should give Rivian a level of stability that many early-stage EV startups lack.
\n
2. The Tesla Connection
\n
Another reason why we remain bullish on Rivian is, ironically, one of its biggest rivals, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA).
\n
According to Data Trek Research's Nicolas Colas via Barron's, the Rivian IPO has the potential to hurt Tesla as investors sell some of their Tesla shares and buy Rivian stock. That would be hardly surprising, given that Rivian has been widely touted as the next Tesla, and also due to the fact that FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) has become pervasive in these social media-driven markets.
\n
Indeed, Cola's money-flow theory appears to hold some water, with the two stocks moving in opposite directions on most trading days since Rivian's IPO.
\n
Many analysts believe that both stocks can work if Rivian matches Tesla's success, even to a much smaller degree, in winning a share of the EV market. Wedbush Securities managing director Dan Ives has argued that there will be such enormous growth within the EV sector that many companies will be able to thrive in the sectors. Many investors who missed out on Tesla's meteoric rise since its 2010 IPO are hoping to ride Rivian from its early days.
\n
In other words, there's more than enough pie to go around.
\n
That's something we can already attest to, considering that the EV market has consistently been exceeding growth expectations by Wall Street.
\n
3. Robust Pre-Orders
\n
But, perhaps, the biggest reason why we think Wall Street and main street investment circles are excited about this EV upstart is the sheer number of pre-orders on its books.
\n
Amazon has pre-ordered 100,000 of Rivian's electric delivery vehicles or EDVs. Assuming each EDV sells for $125,000, Rivian has a guaranteed $12.5 billion in revenue as long as it's able to deliver.
\n
Besides the 100,000 Amazon pre-orders, Rivian has received another 55,400 pre-orders for its R1T, all-electric pickup, and R1S, seven-passenger SUV, models with an estimated price ranging from around $70,000 to $75,000 as per Car and Driver magazine. These additional pre-orders should generate about $4 billion in revenue.
\n
But that's not all.
\n
On Monday, Bloomberg reported that Rivian is in talks with recreational vehicle rental company Outdoorsy Inc. about potential electric truck and SUV orders over the coming years as the company looks to build out its rental fleet. According to Chief Executive Officer Jeff Cavins, Outdoorsy is targeting an initial order of ~1,000 Rivian trucks.
\n
Overall, with the EV space becoming increasingly competitive, it's not going to be an easy journey for Rivian or its peers. Further, the company's steep valuation leaves it with little room for error, meaning it's got to execute flawlessly. The latest selloff is not connected to any misstep by the company but is merely profit-taking after a huge surge post IPO. RIVN shares would go on to hit an intra-day high of $179.47 six days later before falling back to earth to trade at $118.11 on Tuesday's intraday session. Amazingly, RIVN still boasts a market cap of $115 billion, a no mean feat for a company that currently generates nearly zero revenue.\nThe latest crash appears closely connected to last week's announcement that Rivian and Ford Motors (NYSE:F) have shelved plans to collaborate on developing an electric vehicle, with each company opting to go solo.\nHowever, parsing through the comments from Ford CEO Jim Farley in an interview with Automotive News reveals that this could actually be a positive for Rivian, and not something negative as the market appears to infer.\n\"Both their EV development and ours have advanced to a significant degree since the original deal was formed, giving each company more confidence to move ahead independently,\" a Ford representative has told the Wall Street Journal.\nHere are three other reasons why we remain largely bullish about RIVN despite the latest selloff.\n#1. The Ford/Amazon Investments\nIndeed, the latest slide suggests that the market is glossing over just how deeply Rivian and Ford are connected: Ford has a large monetary stake in Rivian.\nThe giant automaker paid a total of $820 million for Rivian's Series B and D offerings and also bought $415 million of the EV maker's convertible debt offering. Those early investments are now worth over $13 billion, meaning Ford owns a ~12% stake in Rivian and 10.5% of the voting power.\nBut Ford is just one of the large institutional investors who have placed their faith in Rivian, with eCommerce giant Amazon Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) being the other.\nAmazon participated in no less than four funding rounds for Rivian, paying $1.35 billion, and also bought $490 million in convertible debt before buying 2.56 million shares worth $200M at the IPO. Overall, Amazon owns an 18.5% stake in Rivian after the IPO and holds 16.9% of the voting power.\nBoth Ford and Amazon are large, deep-pocketed investors who are unlikely to engage in panic selling at the first signs of trouble. This should give Rivian a level of stability that many early-stage EV startups lack.\n2. The Tesla Connection\nAnother reason why we remain bullish on Rivian is, ironically, one of its biggest rivals, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA).\nAccording to Data Trek Research's Nicolas Colas via Barron's, the Rivian IPO has the potential to hurt Tesla as investors sell some of their Tesla shares and buy Rivian stock. That would be hardly surprising, given that Rivian has been widely touted as the next Tesla, and also due to the fact that FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) has become pervasive in these social media-driven markets.\nIndeed, Cola's money-flow theory appears to hold some water, with the two stocks moving in opposite directions on most trading days since Rivian's IPO.\nMany analysts believe that both stocks can work if Rivian matches Tesla's success, even to a much smaller degree, in winning a share of the EV market. Wedbush Securities managing director Dan Ives has argued that there will be such enormous growth within the EV sector that many companies will be able to thrive in the sectors. Many investors who missed out on Tesla's meteoric rise since its 2010 IPO are hoping to ride Rivian from its early days.\nIn other words, there's more than enough pie to go around.\nThat's something we can already attest to, considering that the EV market has consistently been exceeding growth expectations by Wall Street.\n3. Robust Pre-Orders\nBut, perhaps, the biggest reason why we think Wall Street and main street investment circles are excited about this EV upstart is the sheer number of pre-orders on its books.\nAmazon has pre-ordered 100,000 of Rivian's electric delivery vehicles or EDVs. Assuming each EDV sells for $125,000, Rivian has a guaranteed $12.5 billion in revenue as long as it's able to deliver.\nBesides the 100,000 Amazon pre-orders, Rivian has received another 55,400 pre-orders for its R1T, all-electric pickup, and R1S, seven-passenger SUV, models with an estimated price ranging from around $70,000 to $75,000 as per Car and Driver magazine. These additional pre-orders should generate about $4 billion in revenue.\nBut that's not all.\nOn Monday, Bloomberg reported that Rivian is in talks with recreational vehicle rental company Outdoorsy Inc. about potential electric truck and SUV orders over the coming years as the company looks to build out its rental fleet. According to Chief Executive Officer Jeff Cavins, Outdoorsy is targeting an initial order of ~1,000 Rivian trucks.\nOverall, with the EV space becoming increasingly competitive, it's not going to be an easy journey for Rivian or its peers. Further, the company's steep valuation leaves it with little room for error, meaning it's got to execute flawlessly. The latest selloff is not connected to any misstep by the company but is merely profit-taking after a huge surge post IPO. Rivian has the massive EV momentum on its side and could start squeezing the shorts once those deliveries start rolling off its factories.\nOther companies that could capitalize on the electric vehicle boom: \nThe media buzz used to revolve entirely around Tesla, but lately that story has changed.\nFord (NYSE:F) recently made headlines with their announcement of their electric truck, the Ford F-150 Lightning. With the F-150 being the best-selling vehicle in America for 39 years and running, this could be a huge turning point for the EV industry. And just days ago, Biden brought all eyes to the electric F-150 as he took it out for a ride at their motor plant in Dearborn, Michigan.\nThat was followed by nearly 45,000 reservations in 2 days from the hordes of people trying to get their hands on one.\nWhile many have high hopes because of the popularity of the F-150…The F-150 Lightning could see even greater success since it's helping overcome what’s been one of the EV industry’s biggest barriers in the past.\nThe extra cost has kept EVs mostly limited to the wealthy. But as the F-150 Lightning is set to be released with a price tag of $39,974, it'll be $16K cheaper than Tesla's new Cybertruck. And after federal tax credits and state incentives being poured in...\nIt could be even cheaper than a gas-powered truck at this point. The Lightning is expected to hit the shelves coming in 2022, but there's another EV truck that will be coming even sooner...\nNio Limited (NYSE:NIO) is one of Tesla’s most exciting new competitors, dominating the Chinese EV markets. After a rough start after going public in 2018, it’s been on a tear, producing vehicles with record-breaking range.\nJust a year ago, no one could have imagined how successful the Nio was going to be. But China’s answer to Tesla’s dominance powered on, eclipsed estimates, and most importantly, kept its balance sheet in line. And it’s paid off. The idea is that consumers and businesses will interact on new virtual reality platforms—playing videogames, socializing, and doing business in an interconnected way. Some have dubbed it Web 3.0.
\n
Facebook‘s reinvention as Meta Platforms (ticker: FB) highlights the trend. But plenty of tech, media, and e-commerce companies stand to benefit, according to a new Metaverse Index of stocks from Bespoke Investment Group.
\n
“Development of the metaverse will involve many players,” Bespoke said in a report on Tuesday. “This ‘next generation internet’ will require cloud infrastructure, data processing, content origination, cyber security, and much more.”
\n
As Bespoke sees it, 30 companies offer exposure to the trend, spread across seven broad categories: content production, virtualization software, cybersecurity, e-commerce, advertising, hardware, and data.
\n
Some of the names would be obvious winners if the concept takes off: Meta Platforms, Roblox (RBLX),Nvidia(NVDA),Activision Blizzard (ATVI),Take-Two Interactive (TTWO), and Unity Software (U), a virtual-reality software platform.
\n
Several chip-makers aside from Nvidia made the cut, too, including Broadcom (AVGO), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM).
\n
Coinbase (COIN), the large cryptocurrency exchange, could benefit as well. “Digital property and currencies will likely have real value through the use of nonfungible tokens (NFTs),” Bespoke said, noting that Coinbase rolled out an NFT platform not long ago.
\n
Other index components include tech and media stalwarts like Microsoft (MSFT), Cisco (CSCO), Intel (INTC), and Walt Disney (DIS), and Alphabet (GOOGL).
\n
Early in November,Microsoft announced a “Mesh” platform for online work using holographic technology. Cisco is developing holographic systems for meetings. Intel is working on chips designed to be 1,000 times faster than today’s processors—capitalizing on real-time processing demands, Bespoke said. Alphabet, for its part, has a hand in everything from digital advertising to augmented-reality hardware.
\n
As for Disney, it’s trying to build metaverse concepts into theme parks. The company also owns entertainment content and gaming assets that could gain traction in new virtual worlds.
\n
A few other winners aren’t so apparent. Bespoke sees consulting giant Accenture (ACN) benefiting from “uncertainty” as companies struggle to digitize and implement metaverse strategies.Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTSH), another tech outsourcing firm, could play a role as companies implement metaverse strategies.
\n
More under-the-radar winners include Immersion (IMMR), a touch-feedback technology company; Matterport (MTTR), a special-data software platform; and Okta (OKTA), an identity-management and corporate apps platform.
\n
Investors don’t have to buy these stocks individually. You can find many of the Bespoke’s index components in the SPDR Technology Select Sector SPDR exchange-traded fund (XLK). The idea is that consumers and businesses will interact on new virtual reality platforms—playing videogames, socializing, and doing business in an interconnected way. Some have dubbed it Web 3.0.\nFacebook‘s reinvention as Meta Platforms (ticker: FB) highlights the trend. But plenty of tech, media, and e-commerce companies stand to benefit, according to a new Metaverse Index of stocks from Bespoke Investment Group.\n“Development of the metaverse will involve many players,” Bespoke said in a report on Tuesday. “This ‘next generation internet’ will require cloud infrastructure, data processing, content origination, cyber security, and much more.”\nAs Bespoke sees it, 30 companies offer exposure to the trend, spread across seven broad categories: content production, virtualization software, cybersecurity, e-commerce, advertising, hardware, and data.\nSome of the names would be obvious winners if the concept takes off: Meta Platforms, Roblox (RBLX),Nvidia(NVDA),Activision Blizzard (ATVI),Take-Two Interactive (TTWO), and Unity Software (U), a virtual-reality software platform.\nSeveral chip-makers aside from Nvidia made the cut, too, including Broadcom (AVGO), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM).\nCoinbase (COIN), the large cryptocurrency exchange, could benefit as well. “Digital property and currencies will likely have real value through the use of nonfungible tokens (NFTs),” Bespoke said, noting that Coinbase rolled out an NFT platform not long ago.\nOther index components include tech and media stalwarts like Microsoft (MSFT), Cisco (CSCO), Intel (INTC), and Walt Disney (DIS), and Alphabet (GOOGL).\nEarly in November,Microsoft announced a “Mesh” platform for online work using holographic technology. Cisco is developing holographic systems for meetings. Intel is working on chips designed to be 1,000 times faster than today’s processors—capitalizing on real-time processing demands, Bespoke said. Alphabet, for its part, has a hand in everything from digital advertising to augmented-reality hardware.\nAs for Disney, it’s trying to build metaverse concepts into theme parks. The company also owns entertainment content and gaming assets that could gain traction in new virtual worlds.\nA few other winners aren’t so apparent. Bespoke sees consulting giant Accenture (ACN) benefiting from “uncertainty” as companies struggle to digitize and implement metaverse strategies.Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTSH), another tech outsourcing firm, could play a role as companies implement metaverse strategies.\nMore under-the-radar winners include Immersion (IMMR), a touch-feedback technology company; Matterport (MTTR), a special-data software platform; and Okta (OKTA), an identity-management and corporate apps platform.\nInvestors don’t have to buy these stocks individually. You can find many of the Bespoke’s index components in the SPDR Technology Select Sector SPDR exchange-traded fund (XLK). Indeed, Bespoke’s metaverse index has slightly underperformed that ETF and the broader tech sector this year, though it has outperformed the S&P 500.\nThe Roundhill Metaverse ETF (META) holds many of these stocks, too, plus others like Amazon.com (AMZN),Tencent Holdings (700.HK), and Qualcomm (QCOM). It also has trailed the tech sector and broader S&P 500 since launching on June 30.\nInvestors do seem to like the concept overall—pushing up shares of Meta by 7% since the company announced its rebranding on Oct. 28, beating the broader tech market.\nBut high valuations are now built into companies with even a whiff of metaverse exposure. Scores of companies are mentioning it on earnings calls and meetings with analysts, aiming to gin up excitement.\nAppealing as the metaverse may be, it remains an aspiration of Silicon Valley, vulnerable to the hype that come with dreaming big.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":665,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":874344733,"gmtCreate":1637735477962,"gmtModify":1637735478052,"author":{"id":"3571988832408468","authorId":"3571988832408468","name":"Uncrowned","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/877726e95150b32411497c5146bde74e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3571988832408468","idStr":"3571988832408468"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good time to add ","listText":"Good time to add ","text":"Good time to add","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/874344733","repostId":"1178572049","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1178572049","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1637721621,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1178572049?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-24 10:40","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Musk Has Now Sold More Than Half the Stock He Vowed on Twitter","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1178572049","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"After a few days’ break, Elon Musk resumed selling shares in Tesla Inc., now coming more than halfwa","content":"
After a few days’ break, Elon Musk resumed selling shares in Tesla Inc., now coming more than halfway to making good on his promise to offload 10% of his stake in the electric-car maker.
\n
The billionaire sold an additional 934,091 shares for $1.05 billion, according to regulatory filings late on Tuesday U.S. time. NVDA and AMD are among the most popular stocks on ","content":"
Semiconductor stocks have been on fire this year. NVDA and AMD are among the most popular stocks on the main Reddit forums – but which is a better pick?
\n
The semiconductor industry has been under “bullish attack” in 2021. The iShares Semiconductor ETF(SOXX) is up more than 50% in the past year, with two of the most relevant players in the sector competing for the spotlight: NVIDIA and Advanced Micro Devices(AMD).
\n
Figure 1: NVDA, AMD and SOXX price chart over 1-year period.
\n
The rally has been fueled by several catalysts: sustainable revenue growth with long-term opportunities in areas like games, EV and the metaverse; rich gross margins; and strong balance sheets. Today, we look at NVIDIA and AMD stocks and ask the question: which of these two is a better buy at current levels?
\n
NVDA stock according to Wall Street
\n
NVDA has a consensus strong buy rating by Wall Street experts, based on 24 reports released in the past 3 months. The average price target on the stock is $356, which represents very modest 8% upside potential from current levels.
\n
The chip company announced Q3 results on November 17. Since then, analysts have reinforced their bullishness as the stock surged another 12% after earnings.
\n
\n
Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya raised the company’s price target to $375.00 from $340.00 after earnings, pointing at 14% upside potential. The analyst sees NVDA’s having a unique combination of “highly leverageable silicon, software, scale and systems expertise” that will continue to position it at the forefront of some of the largest and fastest growth markets in tech.
\n
\n
\n
Craig-Hallum analyst Richard Shannon also raised NVDA’s price target after earnings to $350 from $220, suggesting modest gain opportunity of 6%. While he keeps a buy rating on the shares, he also suspects that the gaming cycle has hit its peak. Still, the analyst is raising estimates as nothing seems to be slowing NVIDIA in the data center.
\n
\n
\n
Susquehanna analyst Christopher Rolland reiterated his buy recommendation on NVDA after earnings, forecasting a 9% upside potential. The analyst sees data center as the star of the show, and he expects to see even more growth in 4Q.
\n
\n
AMD stock according to Wall Street
\n
Analysts are also bullish on AMD stock, based on 22 recent reports. But the recommendation, in this case, is only a “moderate buy” and the $142 average price target counterintuitively represents 9% downside potential. AMD share price has probably run to fast for Wall Street to catch up.
\n
\n
Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson maintained a buy recommendation a few days ago and raised AMD’s price target to $165 for mid-single digit upside potential. According to the analyst, \"so as long as AMD executes,\" the company should be able to gain share over the mid-term to fuel growth over the next few years. Mr. Bryson also mentioned AMD's data center, which makes him more confident in the thesis.
\n
\n
\n
Goldman Sachs’ Toshiya Hari, also an AMD bull, raised the share price target to $170. The analyst seemed surprised by the Meta/Facebook design win since the company has historically been a loyal user of Intel processors. The expert is also encouraged by the company's updated server CPU product pipeline. In the end, AMD should grow market share, margins, EPS, and FCF beyond what Wall Street has been modeling, according to Goldman.
\n
\n
\n
Jefferies analyst Mark Lipacis is another one with a buy recommendation on AMD, but his $145 price target on the stock represents downside risk of 7%. The analyst’s bull case relies on Meta Platforms being a huge deal win for AMD to accelerate market share gains.
\n
\n
Wall Street Memes’ take
\n
The fundamentals of both NVDA and AMD appear to be as strong as ever. Accelerated growth in the core business segments and upbeat outlook should appeal to growth investors. However, such expectations for future financial results could be valuing NVDA and AMD at too rich a multiple.
\n
NVDA, for instance, trades at a current P/E ratio of 74 times – the second highest multiple among the 20 largest companies by market cap, only trailing Tesla TSLA). NVDA and AMD are among the most popular stocks on the main Reddit forums – but which is a better pick?\nThe semiconductor industry has been under “bullish attack” in 2021. The iShares Semiconductor ETF(SOXX) is up more than 50% in the past year, with two of the most relevant players in the sector competing for the spotlight: NVIDIA and Advanced Micro Devices(AMD).\nFigure 1: NVDA, AMD and SOXX price chart over 1-year period.\nThe rally has been fueled by several catalysts: sustainable revenue growth with long-term opportunities in areas like games, EV and the metaverse; rich gross margins; and strong balance sheets. Today, we look at NVIDIA and AMD stocks and ask the question: which of these two is a better buy at current levels?\nNVDA stock according to Wall Street\nNVDA has a consensus strong buy rating by Wall Street experts, based on 24 reports released in the past 3 months. The average price target on the stock is $356, which represents very modest 8% upside potential from current levels.\nThe chip company announced Q3 results on November 17. Since then, analysts have reinforced their bullishness as the stock surged another 12% after earnings.\n\nBank of America analyst Vivek Arya raised the company’s price target to $375.00 from $340.00 after earnings, pointing at 14% upside potential. The analyst sees NVDA’s having a unique combination of “highly leverageable silicon, software, scale and systems expertise” that will continue to position it at the forefront of some of the largest and fastest growth markets in tech.\n\n\nCraig-Hallum analyst Richard Shannon also raised NVDA’s price target after earnings to $350 from $220, suggesting modest gain opportunity of 6%. While he keeps a buy rating on the shares, he also suspects that the gaming cycle has hit its peak. Still, the analyst is raising estimates as nothing seems to be slowing NVIDIA in the data center.\n\n\nSusquehanna analyst Christopher Rolland reiterated his buy recommendation on NVDA after earnings, forecasting a 9% upside potential. The analyst sees data center as the star of the show, and he expects to see even more growth in 4Q.\n\nAMD stock according to Wall Street\nAnalysts are also bullish on AMD stock, based on 22 recent reports. But the recommendation, in this case, is only a “moderate buy” and the $142 average price target counterintuitively represents 9% downside potential. AMD share price has probably run to fast for Wall Street to catch up.\n\nWedbush analyst Matt Bryson maintained a buy recommendation a few days ago and raised AMD’s price target to $165 for mid-single digit upside potential. According to the analyst, \"so as long as AMD executes,\" the company should be able to gain share over the mid-term to fuel growth over the next few years. Mr. Bryson also mentioned AMD's data center, which makes him more confident in the thesis.\n\n\nGoldman Sachs’ Toshiya Hari, also an AMD bull, raised the share price target to $170. The analyst seemed surprised by the Meta/Facebook design win since the company has historically been a loyal user of Intel processors. The expert is also encouraged by the company's updated server CPU product pipeline. In the end, AMD should grow market share, margins, EPS, and FCF beyond what Wall Street has been modeling, according to Goldman.\n\n\nJefferies analyst Mark Lipacis is another one with a buy recommendation on AMD, but his $145 price target on the stock represents downside risk of 7%. The analyst’s bull case relies on Meta Platforms being a huge deal win for AMD to accelerate market share gains.\n\nWall Street Memes’ take\nThe fundamentals of both NVDA and AMD appear to be as strong as ever. Accelerated growth in the core business segments and upbeat outlook should appeal to growth investors. However, such expectations for future financial results could be valuing NVDA and AMD at too rich a multiple.\nNVDA, for instance, trades at a current P/E ratio of 74 times – the second highest multiple among the 20 largest companies by market cap, only trailing Tesla TSLA). AMD, valued at a slightly lower P/E ratio of 64 times, cannot be considered a bargain either.\nMore easily than finding many fundamental differences between NVDA and AMD, we see more similarities between the stocks. Both companies should attract growth investors who think that the long-term opportunities in tech might be underappreciated today. The more value-conscious investor, however, will probably be discouraged by the valuation multiples in both cases.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":484,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":872486918,"gmtCreate":1637560392666,"gmtModify":1637560392722,"author":{"id":"3571988832408468","authorId":"3571988832408468","name":"Uncrowned","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/877726e95150b32411497c5146bde74e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3571988832408468","idStr":"3571988832408468"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great. However, Wall Street experts still believe that BABA is undervalued.
\n
Alibabadisappointed on earnings day. On November 18, the Chinese e-commerce behemoth reported a revenue and EPS miss. The stock has been hurting badly throughout 2021 and is nearly 40% lower year-to-date.
\n
Figure 1: Alibaba stock chart price year-to-date.
\n
However, Wall Street still sees BABA as a strong buy. After the release of the earnings report, at least three experts have weighed on Alibaba stock. Wall Street Memes takes a closer look at what experts have been saying after Alibaba earnings.
\n
September quarter’s big miss
\n
Alibaba reported September quarter earnings below Wall Street estimates. Earnings per share missed by $0.19 and revenue missed by $638.6 million. Not only did the company disappoint on fiscal Q2 results, but it also delivered soft guidance as well.
\n
Figure 2: BABA EPS surprise & estimates by quarter.
\n
Weaker-than-expected performance can be blamed on China’s economic slowdown during calendar Q3, in addition to issues like regulations around antitrust and data security. However, Daniel Zhang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alibaba Group, said that the longer-term growth goals remain on track.:
\n
\n “\n This quarter, Alibaba continued to firmly invest into our three strategic pillars of domestic consumption, globalization, and cloud computing to establish solid foundations for our long-term goal of sustainable growth in the future.”\n
\n
Alibaba’s gloomy view of macroeconomic conditions and the competitive landscape dictated its fiscal year 2022 revenue guidance of $145 billion (RMB930 billion). Alibaba now expects the top line to grow 20% to 23% year-over-year, quite a bit lower than pre-earnings consensus of 28.5%.
\n
Experts are still bullish
\n
Before the September quarter earnings season, sell-side consensus on BABA looked extremely bullish. Based on 22 analyst rating, the stock was considered a strong buy, with only one neutral and one sell recommendation.
\n
After the earnings report, at least three analysts have weighed on BABA stock. Despite all three having lowered their price targets, BABA still has an average projected price of $221.33 among these analysts, which represents 54% upside potential.
\n
CLSA analyst Elinor Leung maintained a buy recommendation on BABA and lowered the company’s price target to $250 from $273, for a still compelling 74% upside potential. The analyst sees September quarter results as disappointing, but also believes that the company’s strategic investments continue to improve.
\n
Citigroup analyst Alicia Yap also lowered the research firm's price target on Alibaba to $234 from $240 for 63% gain potential, but kept a buy recommendation. Mrs. Yap was not surprised to see Alibaba’s miss, especially following a substantial slowdown in NBS retail data for the past two months.
\n
Lastly, Morgan Stanley analyst Gary Yu maintained his buy recommendation on BABA and set the upside opportunity at 25%. Alibaba’s fiscal 2022 revenue growth guidance cut to 20-23% led the analyst to revisit his model and de-risk the price target. The stock reacted poorly, sinking 11%. However, Wall Street experts still believe that BABA is undervalued.\nAlibabadisappointed on earnings day. On November 18, the Chinese e-commerce behemoth reported a revenue and EPS miss. The stock has been hurting badly throughout 2021 and is nearly 40% lower year-to-date.\nFigure 1: Alibaba stock chart price year-to-date.\nHowever, Wall Street still sees BABA as a strong buy. After the release of the earnings report, at least three experts have weighed on Alibaba stock. Wall Street Memes takes a closer look at what experts have been saying after Alibaba earnings.\nSeptember quarter’s big miss\nAlibaba reported September quarter earnings below Wall Street estimates. Earnings per share missed by $0.19 and revenue missed by $638.6 million. Not only did the company disappoint on fiscal Q2 results, but it also delivered soft guidance as well.\nFigure 2: BABA EPS surprise & estimates by quarter.\nWeaker-than-expected performance can be blamed on China’s economic slowdown during calendar Q3, in addition to issues like regulations around antitrust and data security. However, Daniel Zhang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alibaba Group, said that the longer-term growth goals remain on track.:\n\n “\n This quarter, Alibaba continued to firmly invest into our three strategic pillars of domestic consumption, globalization, and cloud computing to establish solid foundations for our long-term goal of sustainable growth in the future.”\n\nAlibaba’s gloomy view of macroeconomic conditions and the competitive landscape dictated its fiscal year 2022 revenue guidance of $145 billion (RMB930 billion). Alibaba now expects the top line to grow 20% to 23% year-over-year, quite a bit lower than pre-earnings consensus of 28.5%.\nExperts are still bullish\nBefore the September quarter earnings season, sell-side consensus on BABA looked extremely bullish. Based on 22 analyst rating, the stock was considered a strong buy, with only one neutral and one sell recommendation.\nAfter the earnings report, at least three analysts have weighed on BABA stock. Despite all three having lowered their price targets, BABA still has an average projected price of $221.33 among these analysts, which represents 54% upside potential.\nCLSA analyst Elinor Leung maintained a buy recommendation on BABA and lowered the company’s price target to $250 from $273, for a still compelling 74% upside potential. The analyst sees September quarter results as disappointing, but also believes that the company’s strategic investments continue to improve.\nCitigroup analyst Alicia Yap also lowered the research firm's price target on Alibaba to $234 from $240 for 63% gain potential, but kept a buy recommendation. Mrs. Yap was not surprised to see Alibaba’s miss, especially following a substantial slowdown in NBS retail data for the past two months.\nLastly, Morgan Stanley analyst Gary Yu maintained his buy recommendation on BABA and set the upside opportunity at 25%. Alibaba’s fiscal 2022 revenue growth guidance cut to 20-23% led the analyst to revisit his model and de-risk the price target. The analyst also said:\n\n\"We estimate that slightly less than half of the incremental change of RMB50-70 billion comes from lower customer management revenue (CMR) and some from China Retail Others, given lackluster consumption and competition. 3QF22 industry GMV is tracking only at single-digit growth.
Rivian has the massive EV momentum on its side and could start squeezing the shorts once those deliveries start rolling off its factories.
\n
Other companies that could capitalize on the electric vehicle boom:
\n
The media buzz used to revolve entirely around Tesla, but lately that story has changed.
\n
Ford (NYSE:F) recently made headlines with their announcement of their electric truck, the Ford F-150 Lightning. With the F-150 being the best-selling vehicle in America for 39 years and running, this could be a huge turning point for the EV industry. And just days ago, Biden brought all eyes to the electric F-150 as he took it out for a ride at their motor plant in Dearborn, Michigan.
\n
That was followed by nearly 45,000 reservations in 2 days from the hordes of people trying to get their hands on one.
\n
While many have high hopes because of the popularity of the F-150…The F-150 Lightning could see even greater success since it's helping overcome what’s been one of the EV industry’s biggest barriers in the past.
\n
The extra cost has kept EVs mostly limited to the wealthy. But as the F-150 Lightning is set to be released with a price tag of $39,974, it'll be $16K cheaper than Tesla's new Cybertruck. And after federal tax credits and state incentives being poured in...
\n
It could be even cheaper than a gas-powered truck at this point. The Lightning is expected to hit the shelves coming in 2022, but there's another EV truck that will be coming even sooner...
\n
Nio Limited (NYSE:NIO) is one of Tesla’s most exciting new competitors, dominating the Chinese EV markets. After a rough start after going public in 2018, it’s been on a tear, producing vehicles with record-breaking range.
\n
Just a year ago, no one could have imagined how successful the Nio was going to be. In fact, many shareholders were ready to write off their losses and give up on the company. But China’s answer to Tesla’s dominance powered on, eclipsed estimates, and most importantly, kept its balance sheet in line. And it’s paid off. In a big way.
\n
Nio has made all the right moves over the past year to turn heads on the streets and in the marketplace... From its stunningly beautiful - and fast - EP9 supercar to its new line of family-friendly high-performance sedans, Nio is well on its way to retaking control of its local market from Elon Musk’s electric vehicle giant. And as Chinese EV sales continue to soar…Nio’s already-impressive ascension to electric superstar is only going to accelerate from here.
\n
Li Auto (NASDAQ:LI) is another up-and-comer in the Chinese electric vehicle space. And while it may not be a veteran in the market like Tesla or even NIO, it’s quickly making waves on Wall Street. Backed by Chinese giants Meituan and Bytedance, Li has taken a different approach to the electric vehicle market. Instead of opting for pure-electric cars, it is giving consumers a choice with its stylish crossover hybrid SUV. This popular vehicle can be powered with gasoline or electricity, taking the edge off drivers who may not have a charging station or a gas station nearby.
\n
Though it just hit the NASDAQ in July of last year, the company has already seen its stock price more than double. Especially in the past month during the massive EV runup that netted investors triple-digit returns. It’s already worth more than $30 billion but it’s just getting started. And as the EV boom accelerates into high-gear, the sky is the limit for Li and its competitors.
\n
General Motors (NYSE:GM) is one Detroit’s old school automakers, and it’s looking to catch a ride on the EV bandwagon, benefiting from a shift from gas-powered to alternative technology such as hydrogen and electricity. It’s now well over 100 years old and has survived where many others have failed. Even with the downfall of Detroit, GM has persisted, and that’s due in large part to its ability to adapt. In fact, GM’s dive into alternative fuels began way back in 1966 when it produced the world’s first ever hydrogen powered van. And it has not stopped innovating, either.
\n
Recently, GM dropped a bomb on the market with the announcement of its new business unit, BrightDrop. The company is looking to capture a key share of the burgeoning delivery market, with plans to sell electric vans and services to commercial delivery companies.
\n
GM isn’t just betting big on EVs, either. It’s also looking to capitalize on the autonomous vehicle boom. Recently, it announced that it’s majority-owned subsidiary, Cruise, has just received approval from the California DMV to test its autonomous vehicles without a driver. And while they’re not the first to receive such an approval, it’s still huge news for GM.
\n
Toyota Motors (NYSE:TM) is another leader in the industry. Beginning with the Prius, Toyota has been on the cutting edge of green transportation for years and years. And now, it has developed a fuel cell system module and looks to start selling it after the spring this year in a bid to promote hydrogen use and help the world achieve carbon neutrality goals, the world’s largest car manufacturer said in February.
\n
According to Toyota, the new module can be used by companies developing fuel cell (FC) applications for trucks, buses, trains, and ships, as well as stationary generators.
\n
The fuel cell system module can be directly connected to an existing electrical instrument provided with a motor, inverter, and battery, Toyota said, noting that the modularization significantly improves convenience.
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Will Rivian Become The Next Tesla?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWill Rivian Become The Next Tesla?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-11-28 06:00 GMT+8 Oilprice.com\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
On November 10, San Jose, California-based electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive Inc. became the latest name to join the ever-growing list of EV manufacturers going public.\nAs widely expected, ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"LI":"理想汽车","AMZN":"亚马逊","TM":"丰田汽车","NIO":"蔚来","F":"福特汽车","RIVN":"Rivian Automotive, Inc.","TSLA":"特斯拉","GM":"通用汽车"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/rivian-become-next-tesla-220000682.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2186323399","content_text":"On November 10, San Jose, California-based electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive Inc. became the latest name to join the ever-growing list of EV manufacturers going public.\nAs widely expected, Rivian's IPO was another blockbuster after the company managed to raise about $13.5 billion by selling 175.95 million shares at $78 a pop.
\n
NVDA, for instance, trades at a current P/E ratio of 74 times – the second highest multiple among the 20 largest companies by market cap, only trailing Tesla TSLA). NVDA and AMD are among the most popular stocks on the main Reddit forums – but which is a better pick?\nThe semiconductor industry has been under “bullish attack” in 2021. The iShares Semiconductor ETF(SOXX) is up more than 50% in the past year, with two of the most relevant players in the sector competing for the spotlight: NVIDIA and Advanced Micro Devices(AMD).\nFigure 1: NVDA, AMD and SOXX price chart over 1-year period.\nThe rally has been fueled by several catalysts: sustainable revenue growth with long-term opportunities in areas like games, EV and the metaverse; rich gross margins; and strong balance sheets. Today, we look at NVIDIA and AMD stocks and ask the question: which of these two is a better buy at current levels?\nNVDA stock according to Wall Street\nNVDA has a consensus strong buy rating by Wall Street experts, based on 24 reports released in the past 3 months. The average price target on the stock is $356, which represents very modest 8% upside potential from current levels.\nThe chip company announced Q3 results on November 17. Since then, analysts have reinforced their bullishness as the stock surged another 12% after earnings.\n\nBank of America analyst Vivek Arya raised the company’s price target to $375.00 from $340.00 after earnings, pointing at 14% upside potential. The analyst sees NVDA’s having a unique combination of “highly leverageable silicon, software, scale and systems expertise” that will continue to position it at the forefront of some of the largest and fastest growth markets in tech.\n\n\nCraig-Hallum analyst Richard Shannon also raised NVDA’s price target after earnings to $350 from $220, suggesting modest gain opportunity of 6%. While he keeps a buy rating on the shares, he also suspects that the gaming cycle has hit its peak. Still, the analyst is raising estimates as nothing seems to be slowing NVIDIA in the data center.\n\n\nSusquehanna analyst Christopher Rolland reiterated his buy recommendation on NVDA after earnings, forecasting a 9% upside potential. The analyst sees data center as the star of the show, and he expects to see even more growth in 4Q.\n\nAMD stock according to Wall Street\nAnalysts are also bullish on AMD stock, based on 22 recent reports. But the recommendation, in this case, is only a “moderate buy” and the $142 average price target counterintuitively represents 9% downside potential. AMD share price has probably run to fast for Wall Street to catch up.\n\nWedbush analyst Matt Bryson maintained a buy recommendation a few days ago and raised AMD’s price target to $165 for mid-single digit upside potential. According to the analyst, \"so as long as AMD executes,\" the company should be able to gain share over the mid-term to fuel growth over the next few years. Mr. Bryson also mentioned AMD's data center, which makes him more confident in the thesis.\n\n\nGoldman Sachs’ Toshiya Hari, also an AMD bull,raised the share price target to $170. The analyst seemed surprised by the Meta/Facebook design win since the company has historically been a loyal user of Intel processors. The expert is also encouraged by the company's updated server CPU product pipeline. In the end, AMD should grow market share, margins, EPS, and FCF beyond what Wall Street has been modeling, according to Goldman.\n\n\nJefferies analyst Mark Lipacis is another one with a buy recommendation on AMD, but his $145 price target on the stock represents downside risk of 7%. The analyst’s bull case relies on Meta Platforms being a huge deal win for AMD to accelerate market share gains.\n\nWall Street Memes’ take\nThe fundamentals of both NVDA and AMD appear to be as strong as ever. Accelerated growth in the core business segments and upbeat outlook should appeal to growth investors. However, such expectations for future financial results could be valuing NVDA and AMD at too rich a multiple.\nNVDA, for instance, trades at a current P/E ratio of 74 times – the second highest multiple among the 20 largest companies by market cap, only trailing Tesla TSLA). AMD, valued at a slightly lower P/E ratio of 64 times, cannot be considered a bargain either.\nMore easily than finding many fundamental differences between NVDA and AMD, we see more similarities between the stocks. Both companies should attract growth investors who think that the long-term opportunities in tech might be underappreciated today. The more value-conscious investor, however, will probably be discouraged by the valuation multiples in both cases.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":484,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
