a 10% rally from there would put the 30-stock Dow at around 35,530. The S&P 500 closed at 3,898.81 Wednesday, so a 10% gain would put the benchmark U.S. index at nearly 4,290.\nThe yield on the benchmark 10-year began the calendar year below 1%, but it’s soared since the end of January on expectations of a strong U.S. economic recovery from pandemic-induced damage, as well as fears of accompanying inflationary pressures. The yield, which moves inversely to prices, traded around 1.5% on Thursday, retreating from one-year highs above 1.6% in recent days.\nSiegel, for his part, said he believes pent-up demand being unleashed on the economy — coupled with the dramatic increase in money supply during the pandemic — will continue to drive yields higher and lead to higher inflation.\nHowever, Siegel said he thinks investors will still prefer to be in equities over bonds, particularly those in cyclical sectors that benefit from an economic reopening. The longtime market bull told CNBC earlier this week he believes they will outperform tech stocks in the next six to 12 months.\n“Let’s assume bonds to go 2.5% or 3%. If in an environment where have a 4%, 5% inflation — which I really think is going to happen — that’s still not attractive at all” for investors looking for yield, Siegel said Thursday. “Remember, stocks are still real assets. They’re claims on real capital, real ideas, copyrights, intellectual property, etc. They’re going to maintain their value in an inflationary environment. ... Dividends go up with inflation.”\n“If bond yields are rising, you take a double hit,” added Siegel. “You have less purchasing power on the bond and the bond price falls, so we can’t take advantage today of a bond yield 3% a year from now. It actually makes the bond market that much worse compared to stocks, and that’s why the money I think is going to continue to flow into the stock market.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":303,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":323224252,"gmtCreate":1615347488376,"gmtModify":1703487698993,"author":{"id":"3560384764055664","authorId":"3560384764055664","name":"Seowting","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[财迷] ","listText":"[财迷] ","text":"[财迷]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/323224252","repostId":"1184559726","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184559726","pubTimestamp":1615345850,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1184559726?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-03-10 11:10","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why Tesla Stock Skyrocketed Today","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1184559726","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"What happenedShares of Tesla surged on Tuesday, as the electric vehicle maker's stock price rebounde","content":"
What happened

Shares of Tesla surged on Tuesday, as the electric vehicle maker's stock price rebounded sharply from its recent lows.

As of 11:25 a.m. EST, Tesla's stock was up more than 12%.

So what

Following positive developments on the COVID-19 vaccine front, investorshave rotated out of high-priced growth stocks that have performed well during the coronavirus crisis and into more bargain-priced stocks that could benefit from a post-pandemic economic recovery. Some are merely trying to take advantage of the hype surrounding the digital economy, but others look like promising long-term growth stocks. Upstart (NASDAQ:UPST) is one of those promising few -- but it's no hidden gem. As of this writing, shares are up an incredible 280% since its December IPO.
\n
The latest quarterly report and a pending acquisition have helped send the fintech company's stock into the stratosphere. Nevertheless, for investors with a very long-term horizon (think five years or more), this is a growth stock worth putting on your radar.
\n
Incredible 2020 numbers for AI-based lending
\n
Upstart is trying to rewrite the playbook on consumer credit. For those with a spiffy clean credit score, applying and getting approved for a personal loan is a cinch. Not so much for those with a less-than-stellar credit record using the traditional FICO-based score. However, Upstart points out that 80% of Americans have never defaulted on credit, but nearly half don't have access to prime credit (traditionally defined as one level below super prime, the highest consumer credit rating). Rather than relying on historical data to create a simple scorecard, Upstart uses artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the credit decision-making process and increase access to lending for the masses.
\n
\n
Upstart itself is a lender, but it also partners with banks and allows them to use its AI software to help improve offers to clients -- thereby increasing approvals, driving down loan default rates, and reducing interest rates for the borrower. And because the application and approval processes are automated, the company's AI-based platform remained in high demand even during the pandemic.
\n
\n
\n
\n

Metric

\n

2020

\n

2019

\n

Change

\n
\n
\n
\n
\n

Revenue

\n

$229 million

\n

$160 million

\n

43%

\n
\n
\n

Net income (loss)

\n

$5.98 million

\n

($466,000)

\n

N/A

\n
\n
\n

Adjusted EBITDA

\n

$31.5 million

\n

$5.60 million

\n

463%

\n
\n
\n
\n
Data source: Upstart.
\n
It's easy to see why there's such optimism around this stock. Besides double-digit percentage growth amid a pandemic-induced recession, Upstart is already profitable.
\n
It's also using the sizable war chest it raised from its IPO ($251 million in unrestricted cash at the end of 2020) to go shopping. It's acquiring the small company Prodigy Software to accelerate its entrance into the largely untapped auto loan industry. Some $1 trillion a year is spent on car purchases in the U.S. -- most of those buys financed. Upstart offered its first auto loan late last year and will use Prodigy to ramp up the national rollout of its auto loan program for car dealers and banks.
\n
Sky-high potential for a reasonable price
\n
Given the wild swing higher in Upstart's share price since its public debut late last year, this stock is still trading for a reasonable valuation -- if you are investing with a long-term time horizon. Shares currently trade for 15.5 times expected 2021 revenue (Upstart forecasted sales to be about $500 million, more than double last year's haul) and 155 times expected 2021 adjusted EBITDA (forecast to be about 10% of sales, or about $50 million). Subsequent to the last quarterly update, the company also announced it was raising as much as $276 million more cash by selling additional stock. This is one well-funded financial technologist poised to bring some much needed digital updates to the lending industry.
\n
Granted, I'm not calling Upstart stock a bargain. The company has peers that are also hard at work trying to change the status quo in banking -- like SoFi, which is in the process of going public through the special-purpose acquisition company Social Capital Hedosophia V (NYSE:IPOE). Some are merely trying to take advantage of the hype surrounding the digital economy, but others look like promising long-term growth stocks. Upstart (NASDAQ:UPST) is one of those promising few -- but it's no hidden gem. As of this writing, shares are up an incredible 280% since its December IPO.\nThe latest quarterly report and a pending acquisition have helped send the fintech company's stock into the stratosphere. Nevertheless, for investors with a very long-term horizon (think five years or more), this is a growth stock worth putting on your radar.\nIncredible 2020 numbers for AI-based lending\nUpstart is trying to rewrite the playbook on consumer credit. Rather than relying on historical data to create a simple scorecard, Upstart uses artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the credit decision-making process and increase access to lending for the masses.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nUpstart itself is a lender, but it also partners with banks and allows them to use its AI software to help improve offers to clients -- thereby increasing approvals, driving down loan default rates, and reducing interest rates for the borrower. And because the application and approval processes are automated, the company's AI-based platform remained in high demand even during the pandemic.\n\n\n\nMetric\n2020\n2019\nChange\n\n\n\n\nRevenue\n$229 million\n$160 million\n43%\n\n\nNet income (loss)\n$5.98 million\n($466,000)\nN/A\n\n\nAdjusted EBITDA\n$31.5 million\n$5.60 million\n463%\n\n\n\nData source: Upstart.\nIt's easy to see why there's such optimism around this stock. Besides double-digit percentage growth amid a pandemic-induced recession, Upstart is already profitable.\nIt's also using the sizable war chest it raised from its IPO ($251 million in unrestricted cash at the end of 2020) to go shopping. It's acquiring the small company Prodigy Software to accelerate its entrance into the largely untapped auto loan industry. Some $1 trillion a year is spent on car purchases in the U.S. -- most of those buys financed. Upstart offered its first auto loan late last year and will use Prodigy to ramp up the national rollout of its auto loan program for car dealers and banks.\nSky-high potential for a reasonable price\nGiven the wild swing higher in Upstart's share price since its public debut late last year, this stock is still trading for a reasonable valuation -- if you are investing with a long-term time horizon. This is one well-funded financial technologist poised to bring some much needed digital updates to the lending industry.\nGranted, I'm not calling Upstart stock a bargain. The company has peers that are also hard at work trying to change the status quo in banking -- like SoFi, which is in the process of going public through the special-purpose acquisition company Social Capital Hedosophia V (NYSE:IPOE). But this young and already profitable company is making great strides in the massive personal lending and auto loan space, and it will only get more profitable over time as it reaches a more efficient scale. If you're looking for a promising fintech stock for the long term, Upstart is certainly worth your consideration.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":383,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":326664470,"gmtCreate":1615636768690,"gmtModify":1703491800133,"author":{"id":"3560384764055664","authorId":"3560384764055664","name":"Seowting","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[流泪] ","listText":"[流泪] ","text":"[流泪]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/326664470","repostId":"1100128328","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1100128328","pubTimestamp":1615563404,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1100128328?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-03-12 23:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Stock Is Down. Why the Market May Be Wrong.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1131907344","media":"Barron's","summary":"Waymo, the autonomous- driving company funded by Alphabet, has new leadership. Its longtime CEO step","content":"
Waymo, the autonomous- driving company funded by Alphabet, has new leadership. Its longtime CEO stepped down amid a battle with Tesla to develop self-driving cars, and Tesla’s fans on Twitter are taking it as a sign that Elon Musk‘s company’s lead is insurmountable.
\n
That, of course, would be bad for Waymo, though there is no way to measure the market’s reaction, given that the business is a private company. Investors’ changing perceptions about Waymo, however, also have implications for shares of a number of startups, worth billions, that offer automotive lidar technology.
\n
Investors appear to be reacting negatively to signs that Tesla is pulling ahead, but it isn’t clear they are drawing the correct conclusions.
\n
John Krafcik is the man who stepped down at Waymo, founded in 2009 as Google’s self-driving car project, paving the way for co-CEOs Tekedra Mawakana and Dmitri Dolgov to take the reins. “With the fully autonomous Waymo One ride-hailing service open to all in our launch area of Metro Phoenix, and with the fifth generation of the Waymo Driver being prepared for deployment in ride-hailing and goods delivery, it’s a wonderful opportunity for me to pass the baton,” wrote Krafcik in a Friday LinkedIn post.
\n
Lidar is short for laser-based radar. It is a key technology enabling plans for self-driving cars from companies ranging from Waymo to General Motors (GM) and BMW ( BMW. Germany). All the players except Tesla are relying on it.
\n
Musk, who said last he year wouldn’t use lidar in his cars even if the costly sensors were free, prefers optical, ultrasound, and traditional radar integrated with internally developed software to achieve self driving. Those sensor technologies are cheaper than lidar, but lidar is supposed to offer improved accuracy and better performance in certain conditions.
\n
Even without lidar, Musk recently said, his company can achieve so-called Level 5 autonomous driving by the end of 2021. Level 5 is the final ranking in autonomy, as defined by SAE International, formerly known as the Society for Automotive Engineers. It refers to when a car can execute all driving tasks without human intervention. Tesla has been rolling out new versions of its Full Self Driving, or FSD, software for beta testing in recent weeks.
\n
The combination of Tesla’s FSD announcements and Musk’s aversion to lidar has started to hurt lidar stocks. Shares of five lidar start-ups—Luminar Technologies (LAZR), Ouster (OUST), Aeva Technologies (AEVA), Velodyne Lidar (VDLR), and Innoviz, traded via stock in the special-purpose acquisition company Collective Growth (CRGO)—fell an average of 22% in March as FSD talk picked up.
\n
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500, for comparison, gained 7% and 4% respectively in March. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.4%. Tesla stock dropped by about 1%.
\n
Three of the five lidar stocks were lower on Monday, though Collective Growth, which will merge with Innoviz, was up about 4%. The Nasdaq gained 1.6%. Collective Growth stock rose because the two firms announced the closing of their merger. The stock symbol will change to “INVZ” on Tuesday.
\n
It is difficult to figure out why Musk doesn’t like lidar. It’s only a sensor, and all sensor data, from any source, needs to be integrated, using technology from companies such as Aptiv (APTV). Software using that integrated data is what really allows a car to drive itself.
\n
“I don’t live in [Musk’s] brain,” said Innoviz co-founder Oren Rosenzweig. “He made the right decision five years ago when launching FSD because there was no good lidar available. If he had to make this decision now…[lidar] gives a lot of value. Nobody sees how you can design a safe system without it.”
\n
Optical sensors and traditional radar can be blinded in certain driving conditions. Rosenzweig doesn’t see how true Level 5 autonomy can be achieved without it.
\n
Traditional auto companies appear to agree. They are employing lidar to reach Level 3 autonomy for passenger cars due out in coming months. Level 3 offers drivers some autonomy in some circumstances, such as highway driving. The Waymo ride-hailing program in Arizona is close to Level 4 autonomy—full autonomy in limited settings, such as cities with well defined, and well mapped streets.
\n
Tesla, for now, is the only one making the Level 5 claim. If Musk succeeds in producing the technology, Tesla would have a big lead on other auto makers. But that wouldn’t mean the death of lidar technology.
\n
If anything, Tesla’s achievement would encourage other auto makers’ to speed up their plans for self-driving cars. Its longtime CEO stepped down amid a battle with Tesla to develop self-driving cars, and Tesla’s fans on Twitter are taking it as a sign that Elon Musk‘s company’s lead is insurmountable.\nThat, of course, would be bad for Waymo, though there is no way to measure the market’s reaction, given that the business is a private company. Investors’ changing perceptions about Waymo, however, also have implications for shares of a number of startups, worth billions, that offer automotive lidar technology.\nInvestors appear to be reacting negatively to signs that Tesla is pulling ahead, but it isn’t clear they are drawing the correct conclusions.\nJohn Krafcik is the man who stepped down at Waymo, founded in 2009 as Google’s self-driving car project, paving the way for co-CEOs Tekedra Mawakana and Dmitri Dolgov to take the reins. “With the fully autonomous Waymo One ride-hailing service open to all in our launch area of Metro Phoenix, and with the fifth generation of the Waymo Driver being prepared for deployment in ride-hailing and goods delivery, it’s a wonderful opportunity for me to pass the baton,” wrote Krafcik in a Friday LinkedIn post.\nLidar is short for laser-based radar. It is a key technology enabling plans for self-driving cars from companies ranging from Waymo to General Motors (GM) and BMW ( BMW. Germany). All the players except Tesla are relying on it.\nMusk, who said last he year wouldn’t use lidar in his cars even if the costly sensors were free, prefers optical, ultrasound, and traditional radar integrated with internally developed software to achieve self driving. Those sensor technologies are cheaper than lidar, but lidar is supposed to offer improved accuracy and better performance in certain conditions.\nEven without lidar, Musk recently said, his company can achieve so-called Level 5 autonomous driving by the end of 2021. Level 5 is the final ranking in autonomy, as defined by SAE International, formerly known as the Society for Automotive Engineers. It refers to when a car can execute all driving tasks without human intervention. Tesla has been rolling out new versions of its Full Self Driving, or FSD, software for beta testing in recent weeks.\nThe combination of Tesla’s FSD announcements and Musk’s aversion to lidar has started to hurt lidar stocks. Shares of five lidar start-ups—Luminar Technologies (LAZR), Ouster (OUST), Aeva Technologies (AEVA), Velodyne Lidar (VDLR), and Innoviz, traded via stock in the special-purpose acquisition company Collective Growth (CRGO)—fell an average of 22% in March as FSD talk picked up.\nThe Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500, for comparison, gained 7% and 4% respectively in March. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.4%. Tesla stock dropped by about 1%.\nThree of the five lidar stocks were lower on Monday, though Collective Growth, which will merge with Innoviz, was up about 4%. The Nasdaq gained 1.6%. Collective Growth stock rose because the two firms announced the closing of their merger. The stock symbol will change to “INVZ” on Tuesday.\nIt is difficult to figure out why Musk doesn’t like lidar. It’s only a sensor, and all sensor data, from any source, needs to be integrated, using technology from companies such as Aptiv (APTV). Software using that integrated data is what really allows a car to drive itself.\n“I don’t live in [Musk’s] brain,” said Innoviz co-founder Oren Rosenzweig. “He made the right decision five years ago when launching FSD because there was no good lidar available. If he had to make this decision now…[lidar] gives a lot of value. Nobody sees how you can design a safe system without it.”\nOptical sensors and traditional radar can be blinded in certain driving conditions. Rosenzweig doesn’t see how true Level 5 autonomy can be achieved without it.\nTraditional auto companies appear to agree. They are employing lidar to reach Level 3 autonomy for passenger cars due out in coming months. Level 3 offers drivers some autonomy in some circumstances, such as highway driving. The Waymo ride-hailing program in Arizona is close to Level 4 autonomy—full autonomy in limited settings, such as cities with well defined, and well mapped streets.\nTesla, for now, is the only one making the Level 5 claim. If Musk succeeds in producing the technology, Tesla would have a big lead on other auto makers. But that wouldn’t mean the death of lidar technology.\nIf anything, Tesla’s achievement would encourage other auto makers’ to speed up their plans for self-driving cars. More lidar sensors would be in use, more quickly, than many analysts originally projected.\nEven Musk believes other companies will be able to produce fully autonomous cars. He said as much at his company’s battery technology day and annual shareholder meeting back in September.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":452,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":340804010,"gmtCreate":1617367458030,"gmtModify":1631891849932,"author":{"id":"3560384764055664","authorId":"3560384764055664","name":"Seowting","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[财迷] ","listText":"[财迷] ","text":"[财迷]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/340804010","repostId":"2124875875","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":483,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":340457529,"gmtCreate":1617461428861,"gmtModify":1631891849933,"author":{"id":"3560384764055664","authorId":"3560384764055664","name":"Seowting","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[微笑] ","listText":"[微笑] ","text":"[微笑]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/340457529","repostId":"2124273761","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":469,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":355268495,"gmtCreate":1617076338917,"gmtModify":1634522788011,"author":{"id":"3560384764055664","authorId":"3560384764055664","name":"Seowting","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[流泪] ","listText":"[流泪] ","text":"[流泪]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/355268495","repostId":"1194072524","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":269,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":350430724,"gmtCreate":1616248976869,"gmtModify":1634526589302,"author":{"id":"3560384764055664","authorId":"3560384764055664","name":"Seowting","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[开心] ","listText":"[开心] ","text":"[开心]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/350430724","repostId":"1117450855","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1117450855","pubTimestamp":1616166767,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1117450855?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-03-19 23:12","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Powell says Fed will keep supporting economy ‘for as long as it takes’","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1117450855","media":"marketwatch","summary":"Outlook is brightening, but recovery ‘far from complete,’ Fed chairman says in WSJ op-ed.Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Friday said that while the U.S. economic outlook is “brightening,” the recovery is “far from complete.”In an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal,Powell recounted the moment last February when he realized that the coronavirus pandemic would sweep across the country.“The danger to the U.S. economy was grave.
