(BLOOMBERG) - \"The stock will go up and it will go down,\" said Anthony Tan, co-founder of Grab Holdings, moments after Nasdaq's bell-ringing ceremony in Singapore on Thursday night (Dec 2), the first such event held in Southeast Asia.\nHe was right on the money. Grab soared in pre-market trading in New York but after opening 18 per cent higher at US$13.06 the shares tumbled 20.5 per cent to close at US$8.75 on its first day.\nThe stock made its debut after the ride-hailing and delivery company completed its merger with the blank-cheque firm of Brad Gerstner's Altimeter Capital Management, the largest deal yet to close for a special purpose acquisition company (Spac).\nThe slide wiped about US$17 billion (S$23.3 billion) from the market value of the company and meant that Mr Tan's stake, initially worth more than a billion dollars, ended at US$725 million, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.\nGrab has yet to post a profit, but investors had largely welcomed the transaction, which raised US$4.5 billion in gross proceeds. Those include US$4 billion in private investment in public equity, or PIPE, marking the biggest US public market debut by a South-east Asian company. Temasek Holdings, BlackRock and Fidelity International are among those that joined the PIPE.\nThe timing for going public though wasn't optimal. The Covid-19 pandemic has severely hampered ride-hailing businesses, and the Omicron variant is causing new limits on travel. Grab's home country of Singapore banned entry from seven African nations last week, and the government said on Thursday it had detected two imported cases of Omicron.\nIt had already been a turbulent year for Grab. Its merger with Altimeter Growth Corp, announced in April, got delayed due to an audit of the past three years' accounts, sending Altimeter shares for a wild ride. At the same time, the Spac boom that's attracted billions of dollars in the past couple of years has shown signs of easing amid increased regulatory scrutiny.\nMr Tan, whose great-grandfather was a taxi driver, was inspired to start Grab while working on his MBA at Harvard Business School more than a decade ago. He gave up his family's business, one of the biggest auto distributors in Malaysia, and instead started a taxi-hailing service then known as MyTeksi with his Harvard classmate Tan Hooi Ling. The project was later relocated to Singapore after raising money for a regional expansion and was rebranded as Grab in 2016. The company now also does food delivery, online payments and financial services.\nBecause of Grab's share-class structure, Mr Anthony Tan has 60.4 per cent voting rights even though he owns just 2.2 per cent of the company. If he fully exercises his stock options, his voting rights will increase to 66.11 per cent, according to a recent filing.\nEven with today's slide, the deal has created considerable wealth for other key executives of the Singapore company. The holdings of co-founder Tan Hooi Ling and president Ming Maa are now worth US$224 million and US$126 million, respectively.\nBut it's SoftBank Group, which poured about US$3 billion into Grab through a series of investments starting in 2014, that has made the most from the listing. Its 18.6 per cent holding is currently worth US$6.1 billion. Uber Technologies and Didi Chuxing Technology have stakes worth US$4.7 billion and US$2.5 billion, respectively.\nWhile Grab has generated wealth, its loss widened to US$988 million in the third quarter from US$621 million in the same period last year as revenue declined about 9 per cent to US$157 million. The increase in losses was mainly driven by non-cash expenses, and a \"significant portion\" of such costs should drop after the business combination.\nThe ongoing pandemic also took a toll on Grab's operations as demand for mobility services dwindled amid stricter lockdowns in Vietnam and restrictions across the region. Moreover, the company is facing growing competition after its Indonesian rival, Gojek, merged with e-commerce provider PT Tokopedia. GoTo, the combined entity, is preparing for an initial public offering at home and in the United States next year.\nBut Mr Anthony Tan remains confident that things will get better for Grab as more people get vaccinated in the region and opt to pursue the strategy of living with Covid-19.\n\"We are confident about our business,\" he said in an interview on Thursday. \"The business is tracking well,\" in terms of meeting this year's target of gross merchandise value of US$15 billion to US$15.5 billion, he added.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":975,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":609803256,"gmtCreate":1638260038933,"gmtModify":1638260039011,"author":{"id":"3559700461523213","authorId":"3559700461523213","name":"Dont be weak","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/06b3e51be6a54224a834dd01de25f3cc","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Fundamentally strong company with good mgmt and high growth potential. In the first nine months of the year, the Company acquired 353,300 newly funded accounts which exceeded the annual guidance set forth at the beginning of the year. For US stock investors, the Company launched new functions such as tables of pre & post market movers and daily short volume to help investors better capture market opportunities. The Company in total provided 28 IPO subscriptions in the third quarter, such as Li Auto (HK:2015) and Helens (HK:9869). To meet retail investors’ interest to subscribe to Hong Kong IPOs, the Company added new trading coupons such as zero-margin financing coupons and fee reduction coupons. Meanwhile, Tiger Brokers’ online investor community, the Tiger Community, added more investing courses for beginners, helping them identify and analyze promising global opportunities.
\n
The Company’s wealth management business grew steadily in the quarter as more clients used the Fund Mall and Cash Plus. Assets under management (AUM)increased by 98.0% year over year and the number of clients increased by 153.1% year over year. Leveraging its global client base, Tiger Brokers bolstered its cooperation with top international asset managers; the Fund Mall added 40 new funds in the third quarter, among which Asia-focused equity funds were particularly popular. By the end of the third quarter, over 70% of clients were having their U.S. cash equities trades cleared by TradeUP Securities Inc. (formerly known as Marsco Investment Corporation). With its solid track record of successful innovation, the Company won the 2021 Ram Charan Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Award by the Harvard Business Review.
\n
Over 80% Of New Funded Accounts from Overseas Acquired New Licenses and Qualifications in Hong Kong and Singapore
\n
Tiger Brokers' internationalization strategy has achieved remarkable results. Over 80% of its newly funded accounts came from outside China during the third quarter.
\n
In Singapore, Tiger Brokers offered new futures products including those from Eurex Exchange. Tiger Brokers currently offers futures from six major exchanges in the U.S., Europe and Asia, leading the industry by the number of futures available for trading on its platform. In July, in cooperation with Lion Global Investors, it also helped raise financing for Singapore's first dividend-paying China-focused ETF. Retail investors were able to subscribe for units via Tiger Trade, which reduced the threshold for Singapore investors to increase their allocation to China.
\n
In addition, the Company launched its business-to-business (B2B) corporate services in Singapore, where Tiger Brokers provides clients with technological solutions that include advanced portfolio and risk management tools. To further promote the Company's presence in Singapore and current strategic global expansion plans, the Company has decided to establish a dual headquarters in Singapore.
\n
In New Zealand, the Company's growth potential was well recognized by the industry. The stock fell 3.8% in Friday trading after the earnings announcement.\nOn Monday, the company gave a supply chain update on its corporate site in an effort to reassure customers that the holidays will go off without a hitch.\n\"Our teams have been hard at work for months, focusing on capacity and demand planning to balance our customers' needs against any supply chain or transportation challenges that may occur,\" the post says.\n\"While we are always investing in our supply chain and transportation network, we have done even more this year to ensure we don't let recent supply-chain constraints impact the Amazon experience for our customers.\"\nAmazon says it has more than 50,000 trailers to haul freight around the world, will have more than 85 aircraft in its Amazon Air cargo fleet later this season, and has increased its entry port network by 50%.\n\"With the recently emerging labor shortage in the US, the company is increasingly spending more to add workers, and called out an incremental $2 billion costs from wage inflation, and labor-related productivity losses in 3Q21, particularly in August and September,\" Truist analysts wrote in a note.\nAmazon expects costs to increase towards $4 billion in the fourth quarter. And the company called out inflation and higher costs for materials.\n\"We view these headwinds as macro in nature impacting Amazon as well as peers, yet given its size and scale, and forward-leaning management team, we expect the company's P&L to be able to comfortably absorb these costs as these labor supply issues wane, and as the company's fulfillment capacity remains healthy (which is right now),\" Truist said.\nTruist rates Amazon stock buy with a $4,000 price target, up from $3,800.\n\"Management's biggest challenge heading into Q4 and into 2022 will be its ability to retain talent, which is needed to scale its low-margin but core retail business that serves as perhaps the most important flywheel piece within the company's overall business,\" wrote Wedbush analysts.\nWedbush rates Amazon shares outperform, but lowered its price target to $3,950 from $4,300.\n\"This year, management is using promotional activity in October to pull forward shopping in order to avoid challenges brought about by an inconsistent stream of workers, including having to redirect inventory placement to better staffed fulfillment centers,\" Wedbush said.\nNot only do the Amazon results impact that company, but GlobalData says they shine a light on what's to come for other retailers as well.\n\"First and foremost, they show that as comparatives become tougher growth stalls,\" wrote Neil Saunders, GlobalData's managing director.\n\"As a retailer that is, primarily, focused on online, Amazon's difficult comparatives are coming sooner than many more physically-focused players. However, their turn will come and when it does, they will find it much harder to chalk up revenue gains. That, at a time of exceptionally high cost inflation presents an enormous challenge. Many will face the same issues as Amazon: bite the bullet and take a hit on the bottom line or try to slash costs and maintain profitability.\"\nAmazon stock is up 1.6% for the year to date. The Amplify Online Retail ETF $(IBUY.UK)$ is down 3.7% for the period. And the S&P 500 index has gained 22% for the period.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":510,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":823628830,"gmtCreate":1633619294476,"gmtModify":1633619294731,"author":{"id":"3559700461523213","authorId":"3559700461523213","name":"Dont be weak","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/06b3e51be6a54224a834dd01de25f3cc","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Of course. \"The business is tracking well,\" in terms of meeting this year's target of gross merchandise value of US$15 billion to US$15.5 billion, he added.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":975,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":843245755,"gmtCreate":1635836860375,"gmtModify":1635836860492,"author":{"id":"3559700461523213","authorId":"3559700461523213","name":"Dont be weak","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/06b3e51be6a54224a834dd01de25f3cc","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/843245755","repostId":"850756569","repostType":1,"repost":{"id":850756569,"gmtCreate":1634631211448,"gmtModify":1635853120757,"author":{"id":"36984908995200","authorId":"36984908995200","name":"小虎活动","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4f487d6799e86204e80dfde72e6040c0","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"title":"[Halloween Game] Trade or Treat!","htmlText":"Hello, dear Tigers!
