Years","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2191910910","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"One of them now has a yield that's over 7%.","content":"
Dividend stocks with growing payouts can be some of the best income investments to hold for the long term. Over time, with regular dividend hikes, even a yield that is modest when you buy the stock can become more impressive. But to capitalize on that, investors have to remain patient.
\n
Over the past five years, Anthem (NYSE:ANTM), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), and Enbridge (NYSE:ENB) have increased their dividend payments by more than 40%. And what's exciting is that there's still room for those payouts to climb even higher.
\n
1. Anthem
\n
Managed healthcare company Anthem serves more than 117 million people through all of its affiliated businesses. One of the ways it grows is through acquisitions. And in November, it announced it was buying Integra Managed Care, which serves 40,000 Medicaid members and has a focus on helping adults with long-term care needs. Last year, Anthem closed its purchase of Beacon Health Options, a behavioral health business that today serves more than 40 million people across the country.
\n
Deals like these have helped Anthem grow not just revenue but also its bottom line. In the trailing 12 months, the company has generated a profit of $5.5 billion on revenue of $133.9 billion. Back in 2016, Anthem's profits were just $2.5 billion on revenue of just under $85 billion.
\n
Powered by that growth, the company has significantly bolstered its dividend payments. At current share prices, the stock yields just over 1% (slightly below the S&P 500's average yield of 1.3%). While that may be modest, for long-term investors what makes this attractive is the potential for management to further boost those payouts. Anthem's $1.13 quarterly dividend today is 74% higher than the $0.65 that it was paying five years ago. Over that period, the dividend has grown at a compound annual rate of 11.7%. And with a payout ratio of just 20%, management has plenty of room to raise the dividend from here.
\n
As such, there's plenty of incentive for investors to just buy and hold shares of this healthcare stock for many years.
\n
2. Microsoft
\n
Tech giant Microsoft's dividend doesn't feature a terribly high yield today, either -- just 0.7%, which many income investors may scoff at. But the stock offers the best of both worlds: dividends and long-term growth. Microsoft is now worth $2.5 trillion, and its market cap has risen by nearly 450% in five years while the S&P 500 has increased by 107%.
\n
Whether you're bullish on remote work, cloud computing, or video games, Microsoft has you covered with its Microsoft 365 business software suite, its Azure platform, and Xbox console. The sheer diversity the company offers is what makes it an incredibly stable and safe investment. And if it runs out of growth opportunities, it can just buy a business, as it did with LinkedIn back in 2016, when it paid $26 billion for the professional networking platform.
\n
It certainly has the financial flexibility for such moves. Over the past 12 months alone, Microsoft brought in more than $60 billion in free cash flow. That was also more than three times the $16.9 billion it paid out in dividends during that time.
\n
In five years, Microsoft has increased its dividend payments by 59%, from $0.39 to $0.62, for a compound annual growth rate of 9.7%. Yet its payout ratio sits at just 25%.
\n
Given the company's strong growth -- sales rose 22% to $45.3 billion in the quarter that ended Sept. 30 -- there's plenty of reason to expect that the dividend will only get bigger.
\n
3. Enbridge
\n
Enbridge is the only stock on this list with an above-average yield. At 7.1%, it almost looks too good to be true, which may lead income investors to worry that a dividend cut is around the corner. But that's not the case. This pipeline company is among the safest investments in the oil and gas industry.
\n
On Dec. 7, Enbridge announced it would be raising its dividend by 3% -- its 27th annual payout hike in a row. It will distribute 3.44 Canadian dollars per share next year, which is 43% higher than the CA$2.413 that it was paying in 2017, giving the dividend a compound annual growth rate of 7.3%.
\n
With a payout ratio of more than 100% of earnings, at first glance, the current dividend looks unsustainable. But Enbridge is a great example of a company where looking at the payout ratio alone can give you a misleading impression about the safety of its dividend. The company targets its payout to be in the range of 60% to 70% of its distributable cash flow (DCF) -- a common metric to use for that purpose in the oil and natural gas industry. DCF excludes non-cash items that do factor into earnings, but that don't impact a company's ability to make dividend payments.
\n
For 2022, the company anticipates that its DCF per share will fall in the range of CA$5.20 to CA$5.50, which would put its payout ratio based on that metric at a very sustainable 64%. Enbridge also projects that its DCF will grow at an annual rate of 5% to 7% through 2024. So for the foreseeable future, there are no alarm bells here to suggest its extraordinary dividend is in any jeopardy.
\n
With Enbridge, investors have an opportunity to pick up a solid income stock that's already paying a high yield, and the strong possibility of further dividend hikes in the years ahead.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Dividend Stocks That Have Raised Their Payouts by More Than 40% in 5 Years
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Dividend Stocks That Have Raised Their Payouts by More Than 40% in 5 Years\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-16 20:36 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Dividend stocks with growing payouts can be some of the best income investments to hold for the long term. Inflation will remain elevated enough to shake up the stock market, possibly causing a selloff as much as 15%. You need to prepare now.
\n
The reason: Persistently high inflation will move the 10-year Treasury yield to 2% and get the Federal Reserve to start tapering its stimulus by the end of the year. Both will rattle the stock market.
\n
The government said June 10 that the cost of living surged in May and drove the pace of inflation to a 13-year high of 5%.
\n
What should you do? Probably the opposite of what you are thinking. Before we get to that, here is a look at the two key events for stocks — in the bond market and at the Fed — between today and the end of the year.
\n
Rising yields
\n
Remember how the stock market freaked out earlier this year when the 10-year Treasury yield TMUBMUSD10Y,1.452% moved up to around 1.7%? Well, expect a repeat. Only worse.
\n
“We suspect that inflation in the U.S. will prove more persistent than investors currently appear to anticipate,” says Capital Economics economist Franziska Palmas, citing the tight labor market and wage growth. Her research group puts the 10-year yield at 2.25% by the end of this year, and 2.5% by the end of 2022.
\n
That’ll be a big move from the current level of 1.5%. Stock investors tend to panic when interest rates rise a lot.
\n
Fed tapering
\n
Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has downplayed the need for tapering the central bank’s bond purchases to keep yields low. But half of the 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) have recently said they’re ready to start talking about tapering. The FOMC is the Fed branch that sets monetary policy.
\n
“It will be increasingly hard for Powell to claim the economy needs to make ‘substantial further progress’ toward achieving maximum employment before the Fed starts talking about talking about tapering,” says Ed Yardeni, author of Predicting the Markets and head of Yardeni Research. Powell has repeatedly said the Fed is awaiting “substantial further progress” in the economy before terminating its stimulus.
\n
“Given the performance of the economy, it is reasonable to expect they will start to taper before end of year, and a few months later they will start to raise the federal funds rate,” predicts Yardeni.
\n
He thinks the Fed will announce a decision to start tapering in its July meeting. Tapering refers to a reduction in bond purchases by the Fed. This tightens the money supply to put the brakes on growth. Once purchases go to zero, the Fed moves on to cutting rates.
\n
As we know, tapering causes a “taper tantrum” in the stock market, meaning a sharp selloff in indices like the S&P 500 SPX,+0.19%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,+0.04% and Nasdaq COMP,+0.35%.
\n
How to prepare
\n
When considering how to position for the probable selloff caused by rising bond yields and Fed tightening, the key things to remember is why these things are happening in the first place, and what history tells us about how stocks behave.
\n
The consensus view is that tapering and rising bond yields kill off economic growth and the bull market in stocks. But this isn’t actually true.
\n
Yes, initially, tightening can make stocks fall — or churn sideways, at best. But then stocks shake it off and move higher as the bull market continues. This makes sense, because the tightening is happening for good reasons that help companies — strong economic growth. This pushes earnings a lot higher, which resets valuations lower — back down to levels investors feel comfortable with.
\n
“Tapering is part and parcel of a recovery,” says Leuthold market strategist Jim Paulsen. “It is a response to successful policy and a rebound in the economy. It is a natural part of the bull market that allows the market to go higher. It’s a healthy development.”
\n
Looking through all the market fireworks that may lie ahead, Paulsen thinks underlying economic growth will push S&P 500 earnings up to $220 by the end of the year. Assuming the S&P 500 is at current levels or a little bit lower, that would bring the index’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio down to 18-19 — which is near or below the average since 1990. “That sets up the next leg of the bull market,” he says.
\n
Your five-point game plan
\n
1. Do not go to “defensives”
\n
When people see stock market turbulence, the knee-jerk reaction is to go for the “stability” of defensive names like utilities and consumer staples. But that would be a mistake. You want to go to defensives when the economy is slowing or contracting, not when it is strong. Another problem is that defensive names pay yield. So, like bonds, they get hit by rising interest rates, which devalue dividends — and dividend-paying stocks and bonds.
\n
“The best way to protect yourself is to tie your portfolio to the overheated economy. That is where the best profit growth and profit leverage is,” says Paulsen. “You do not get that with defensives.”
\n
2. Go with companies that benefit from growth
\n
Since rapid economic growth is causing the tapering — and the growth is usually not killed off by tightening — stocks linked to growth typically are the best place to be. This means cyclicals like industrials, basic materials consumer names, small-caps and international stocks. “Slower growth consumer staples and utilities won’t keep up with growth areas of the market,” says Paulsen.
\n
I first suggested Lindblad Expeditions LIND,+0.17% and Cardlytics CDLX,+4.54% and in my stock letter, Brush Up on Stocks (the link to my site is in the bio, below) in September 2020 and November 2019. I still like and own both even though they are up 48% and 157% — or two to four times the S&P 500. Recent insider buying confirms they are buys and holds around current levels. Plus, both are cyclical names. Cardlytics helps credit card companies understand customer buying patterns for marketing purposes. Lindblad offers specialized cruise adventures to exotic locales. Both benefit from economic growth that powers more consumer spending.
\n
3. Do not get out of stocks
\n
If you think a selloff is coming, it might be tempting to try to get out of stocks right before that, to buy back after the weakness happens. But this is a lot harder than you think. In fact, it is almost impossible to get the timing right, say market veterans.
\n
“You have to make two smart decisions,” says Yardeni. “You have to get out just before the correction and then you have to decide when to get back in. I don’t know of too many people that can do that consistently.”
\n
Market timers often get out and don’t get back in, and they miss the next leg up. “You can get yourself into trouble trying to avoid the correction,” says Paulsen.
\n
4. Do not own bonds
\n
Bond yields will be 2% or higher by the end of year. So don’t own bonds, whose prices fall when yields rise — unless you simply plan to hold to maturity to collect the income.
\n
5. Go with financials
\n
Strong economies typically make the yield curve more upward sloping, meaning that long-term interest rates on 10-year Treasuries rise a lot faster than short-term interest rates. Since banks borrow at the short end and lend at the long end, steepening yield curves help them.
\n
The strong economy will also help banks release reserves and lower provisions for loan losses, both of which can boost earnings, points out Yardeni. Both JPMorgan Chase JPM,-0.07% and Bank of America BAC,+0.41% are up over twice as much as the S&P 500 since I suggested them in my stock letter last August. But they still look attractive. Recent pattern buying by smart insiders among smaller banks confirms the sector is still one to own, despite the strength over the past few quarters.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Don’t be fooled — inflation is a big risk for stock market investors. When Gelsinger unveiled the company’s plans for the future in late March,Intel (ticker: INTC) said it expected full-year earnings of $4 a share from revenue of $76.5 billion. Including various adjustments, such as those related to Intel’s sale of its flash-memory business in 2020, EPS is likely to be $4.55, while revenue is expected to be $72 billion, the company said.
\n
As part of the plan, Intel said it would once again license its x86 chip designs to other companies, and create a foundry services unit that would produce chips for third parties interested in paying Intel to fabricate semiconductors.
\n
Intel didn’t issue precise new financial guidance for the first quarter, but said it expected results better than its prior forecast. Previously, Intel said it expected adjusted first-quarter earnings of $1.10 a share and revenue of $17.5 billion. The consensus forecast is for adjusted earnings of $1.15 a share from revenue of $17.74 billion.
\n
Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Christopher Rolland, who called the company’s full-year guidance “underwhelming,” said he is expecting investors to focus on Gelsinger’s long-term plans for the company, and to look for more details about Intel’s next generation chip-making technology. According to the analyst’s data sources, notebook sales were strong in the first quarter, but it is less clear what’s coming through the rest of the year.
\n
Analysts predict that Intel’s client computing segment, which includes notebook sales, will report first-quarter revenue of $10.02 billion. That is the company’s largest segment, followed by the data center operation, which is expected to report revenue of $5.84 billion.
\n
Despite Intel’s decision to double down on its manufacturing capabilities, BMO Capital Markets analyst Ambrish Srivastava wrote in a client note Monday that he isn’t expecting executives to offer details about its goals, and their effect on Intel’s financial performance.
\n
Still, Srivastava said, investors should watch closely for commentary about the impact to the company’s capital spending, profit, and free cash flow, among other things.
\n
Intel’s report arrives amid a global shortage of semiconductors that is hurting production of goods ranging from appliances to cars and videogame consoles. Gelsinger has previously told Barron’s that he expects the chip shortage to last two years.
\n
Of the analysts that cover Intel, 43% rate shares at Buy, 34% have Hold ratings, and 23% rate the stock at Sell. The average target for the stock price is $68.71, which implies a return of 8.6%.
\n
Intel stock advanced 1.6% to $63.70 in Wednesday trading. Shares in the chip maker have gained 12% in the past year, while the PHLX Semiconductor index, or Sox, has doubled.
\n
Rolland pointed out that since Intel’s most recent quarterly report, its stock has gained 14%, while the Sox rose 5.8%. The analyst said that outperformance may indicate that expectations for the earnings are high, a potential negative for the stock.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Intel Reports Earnings Thursday. Previously, Intel said it expected adjusted first-quarter earnings of $1.10 a share and revenue of $17.5 billion. The consensus forecast is for adjusted earnings of $1.15 a share from revenue of $17.74 billion.\nSusquehanna Financial Group analyst Christopher Rolland, who called the company’s full-year guidance “underwhelming,” said he is expecting investors to focus on Gelsinger’s long-term plans for the company, and to look for more details about Intel’s next generation chip-making technology. According to the analyst’s data sources, notebook sales were strong in the first quarter, but it is less clear what’s coming through the rest of the year.\nAnalysts predict that Intel’s client computing segment, which includes notebook sales, will report first-quarter revenue of $10.02 billion. That is the company’s largest segment, followed by the data center operation, which is expected to report revenue of $5.84 billion.\nDespite Intel’s decision to double down on its manufacturing capabilities, BMO Capital Markets analyst Ambrish Srivastava wrote in a client note Monday that he isn’t expecting executives to offer details about its goals, and their effect on Intel’s financial performance.\nStill, Srivastava said, investors should watch closely for commentary about the impact to the company’s capital spending, profit, and free cash flow, among other things.\nIntel’s report arrives amid a global shortage of semiconductors that is hurting production of goods ranging from appliances to cars and videogame consoles. Gelsinger has previously told Barron’s that he expects the chip shortage to last two years.\nOf the analysts that cover Intel, 43% rate shares at Buy, 34% have Hold ratings, and 23% rate the stock at Sell. The average target for the stock price is $68.71, which implies a return of 8.6%.\nIntel stock advanced 1.6% to $63.70 in Wednesday trading. Shares in the chip maker have gained 12% in the past year, while the PHLX Semiconductor index, or Sox, has doubled.\nRolland pointed out that since Intel’s most recent quarterly report, its stock has gained 14%, while the Sox rose 5.8%. The analyst said that outperformance may indicate that expectations for the earnings are high, a potential negative for the stock.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":284,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":152968116,"gmtCreate":1625263060635,"gmtModify":1631886783998,"author":{"id":"3555258134444739","authorId":"3555258134444739","name":"Koey","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b00aea8cc65a7b91263ae19adeaa9eee","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555258134444739","authorIdStr":"3555258134444739"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Ashford Hospitality(AHT)$ what a great way to end this week fml","listText":"$Ashford Hospitality(AHT)$ what a great way to end this week fml","text":"$Ashford Hospitality(AHT)$ what a great way to end this week fml","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/152968116","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1381,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":131208074,"gmtCreate":1621860423098,"gmtModify":1631892873485,"author":{"id":"3555258134444739","authorId":"3555258134444739","name":"Koey","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b00aea8cc65a7b91263ae19adeaa9eee","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555258134444739","authorIdStr":"3555258134444739"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls help reply thx","listText":"Pls help reply thx","text":"Pls help reply thx","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/131208074","repostId":"1164009514","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":328,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":135973248,"gmtCreate":1622128579184,"gmtModify":1631892873461,"author":{"id":"3555258134444739","authorId":"3555258134444739","name":"Koey","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b00aea8cc65a7b91263ae19adeaa9eee","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555258134444739","authorIdStr":"3555258134444739"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like n comment","listText":"Like n comment","text":"Like n comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/135973248","repostId":"2138173935","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":490,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":166618359,"gmtCreate":1624005692671,"gmtModify":1631890645416,"author":{"id":"3555258134444739","authorId":"3555258134444739","name":"Koey","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b00aea8cc65a7b91263ae19adeaa9eee","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555258134444739","authorIdStr":"3555258134444739"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/166618359","repostId":"2144745081","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2144745081","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1623999815,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2144745081?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-18 15:03","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Looking for hedges against inflation?
Inflation will remain elevated enough to shake up the stock market, possibly causing a selloff as much as 15%. You need to prepare now.\nThe reason: Persistently high inflation will move the 10-year Treasury yield to 2% and get the Federal Reserve to start tapering its stimulus by the end of the year. Both will rattle the stock market.\nThe government said June 10 that the cost of living surged in May and drove the pace of inflation to a 13-year high of 5%.\nWhat should you do? Probably the opposite of what you are thinking. Before we get to that, here is a look at the two key events for stocks — in the bond market and at the Fed — between today and the end of the year.\nRising yields\nRemember how the stock market freaked out earlier this year when the 10-year Treasury yield TMUBMUSD10Y,1.452% moved up to around 1.7%? Well, expect a repeat. Only worse.\n“We suspect that inflation in the U.S. will prove more persistent than investors currently appear to anticipate,” says Capital Economics economist Franziska Palmas, citing the tight labor market and wage growth. Her research group puts the 10-year yield at 2.25% by the end of this year, and 2.5% by the end of 2022.\nThat’ll be a big move from the current level of 1.5%. Stock investors tend to panic when interest rates rise a lot.\nFed tapering\nFed Chairman Jerome Powell has downplayed the need for tapering the central bank’s bond purchases to keep yields low. But half of the 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) have recently said they’re ready to start talking about tapering. The FOMC is the Fed branch that sets monetary policy.\n“It will be increasingly hard for Powell to claim the economy needs to make ‘substantial further progress’ toward achieving maximum employment before the Fed starts talking about talking about tapering,” says Ed Yardeni, author of Predicting the Markets and head of Yardeni Research. Powell has repeatedly said the Fed is awaiting “substantial further progress” in the economy before terminating its stimulus.\n“Given the performance of the economy, it is reasonable to expect they will start to taper before end of year, and a few months later they will start to raise the federal funds rate,” predicts Yardeni.\nHe thinks the Fed will announce a decision to start tapering in its July meeting. Tapering refers to a reduction in bond purchases by the Fed. This tightens the money supply to put the brakes on growth. Once purchases go to zero, the Fed moves on to cutting rates.\nAs we know, tapering causes a “taper tantrum” in the stock market, meaning a sharp selloff in indices like the S&P 500 SPX,+0.19%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,+0.04% and Nasdaq COMP,+0.35%.\nHow to prepare\nWhen considering how to position for the probable selloff caused by rising bond yields and Fed tightening, the key things to remember is why these things are happening in the first place, and what history tells us about how stocks behave.\nThe consensus view is that tapering and rising bond yields kill off economic growth and the bull market in stocks. But this isn’t actually true.\nYes, initially, tightening can make stocks fall — or churn sideways, at best. But then stocks shake it off and move higher as the bull market continues. This makes sense, because the tightening is happening for good reasons that help companies — strong economic growth. This pushes earnings a lot higher, which resets valuations lower — back down to levels investors feel comfortable with.\n“Tapering is part and parcel of a recovery,” says Leuthold market strategist Jim Paulsen. “It is a response to successful policy and a rebound in the economy. It is a natural part of the bull market that allows the market to go higher. It’s a healthy development.”\nLooking through all the market fireworks that may lie ahead, Paulsen thinks underlying economic growth will push S&P 500 earnings up to $220 by the end of the year. Assuming the S&P 500 is at current levels or a little bit lower, that would bring the index’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio down to 18-19 — which is near or below the average since 1990. “That sets up the next leg of the bull market,” he says.\nYour five-point game plan\n1. Do not go to “defensives”\nWhen people see stock market turbulence, the knee-jerk reaction is to go for the “stability” of defensive names like utilities and consumer staples. But that would be a mistake. You want to go to defensives when the economy is slowing or contracting, not when it is strong. Another problem is that defensive names pay yield. So, like bonds, they get hit by rising interest rates, which devalue dividends — and dividend-paying stocks and bonds.\n“The best way to protect yourself is to tie your portfolio to the overheated economy. That is where the best profit growth and profit leverage is,” says Paulsen. “You do not get that with defensives.”\n2. Go with companies that benefit from growth\nSince rapid economic growth is causing the tapering — and the growth is usually not killed off by tightening — stocks linked to growth typically are the best place to be. This means cyclicals like industrials, basic materials consumer names, small-caps and international stocks. “Slower growth consumer staples and utilities won’t keep up with growth areas of the market,” says Paulsen.\nI first suggested Lindblad Expeditions LIND,+0.17% and Cardlytics CDLX,+4.54% and in my stock letter, Brush Up on Stocks (the link to my site is in the bio, below) in September 2020 and November 2019. Plus, both are cyclical names. Cardlytics helps credit card companies understand customer buying patterns for marketing purposes. Lindblad offers specialized cruise adventures to exotic locales. Both benefit from economic growth that powers more consumer spending.\n3. Do not get out of stocks\nIf you think a selloff is coming, it might be tempting to try to get out of stocks right before that, to buy back after the weakness happens. But this is a lot harder than you think. In fact, it is almost impossible to get the timing right, say market veterans.\n“You have to make two smart decisions,” says Yardeni. “You have to get out just before the correction and then you have to decide when to get back in. I don’t know of too many people that can do that consistently.”\nMarket timers often get out and don’t get back in, and they miss the next leg up. “You can get yourself into trouble trying to avoid the correction,” says Paulsen.\n4. Do not own bonds\nBond yields will be 2% or higher by the end of year. So don’t own bonds, whose prices fall when yields rise — unless you simply plan to hold to maturity to collect the income.\n5. Go with financials\nStrong economies typically make the yield curve more upward sloping, meaning that long-term interest rates on 10-year Treasuries rise a lot faster than short-term interest rates. Since banks borrow at the short end and lend at the long end, steepening yield curves help them.\nThe strong economy will also help banks release reserves and lower provisions for loan losses, both of which can boost earnings, points out Yardeni. That relative strength is admirable, but it's a bit frustrating for investors who don't want to pay the wrong price for the right company.
\n
That's why I'm making a shopping list of expensive tech stocks which I'd eagerly buy during the next market crash. Let's take a look at three of those companies:Snowflake(NYSE:SNOW),Twilio(NYSE:TWLO), and CrowdStrike(NASDAQ:CRWD).
\n
\n
1. Snowflake
\n
Snowflake was one of the hottest tech IPOs of 2020, thanks to its jaw-dropping growth rates and big investments from Berkshire Hathaway and salesforce.com.
\n
Snowflake'scloud-baseddata warehouse pulls all of a company's data onto a single platform, where it can then be fed into third-party data visualization apps. Its service breaks down the silos between different departments and computing platforms, which makes it easier for large companies to make data-driven decisions.
\n
Snowflake's number of customers jumped 73% to 4,139 in fiscal 2021 (which ended this January), including 186 of the Fortune 500 companies. Its revenue surged 124% to $592 million, as its net retention rate -- which gauges its year-over-year revenue growth per existing customer -- hit 165%.
\n
That growth continued in the first quarter of 2022. Its revenue rose 110% year over year to $228.9 million, its number of customers increased 67% to 4,532, and it achieved a net retention rate of 168%.
\n
But Snowflake isn't profitable yet. ItsGAAPnet loss widened from $348.5 million in fiscal 2020 to $539.1 million in fiscal 2021, andmore than doubledfrom $93.6 million to $203.2 million in the first quarter of 2022. It's also unprofitable on a non-GAAP basis, which excludes its stock-based compensation expenses.
\n
Analysts expect Snowflake's revenue to rise 88% this year, with a narrower loss. However, its stock still trades at 65 times this year's sales -- which indicates there's still far too much growth baked into the stock. But if Snowflake gets cut in half in a crash, I'd considerstarting a big position.
\n
2. Twilio
\n
Twilio's cloud platform processes text messages, calls, and videos within apps. For example, it helps Lyft's passengers contact their drivers, and Airbnb's guests reach their hosts.
\n
In the past, developers built those tools from scratch, which was generally time-consuming, buggy, and difficult to scale. However, developers can now outsource those features to Twilio's cloud service by simply adding a few lines of code to their apps.
\n
Twilio's revenue rose 55% to $1.76 billion in 2020. Its net expansion rate, which is comparable to Snowflake's net retention rate, reached 137%. In the first quarter of 2021, its revenue jumped 62% year over year to $590 million as it integrated its recent purchase of the customer data firm Segment.
\n
Twilio remains unprofitable on a GAAP basis, but its non-GAAP net income rose 62% to $35.9 million in 2020. In the first quarter of 2021, its non-GAAP net income rose another 15% to $9.6 million.
\n
Analysts expect its revenue to rise 44% this year, but for its non-GAAP earnings to dip into the red again amid higher investments and rising A2P (application-to-person) fees, which are now charged by carriers whenever an app accesses an SMS network.
\n
That near-term outlook doesn't look great for a stock that trades at nearly 30 times this year's sales. However, I still think Twilio has great growth potential, and I'd definitely buy its stock at a lower price.
\n
3. CrowdStrike
\n
CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity company that differs from its industry peers in one major way. Most cybersecurity companies install on-site appliances to support their services, which can be expensive to maintain and difficult to scale as an organization expands. CrowdStrike eliminates those appliances by offering its end-to-end security platform as a cloud-based service.
\n
CrowdStrike's growth clearly reflects its disruptive potential. Its revenue rose 82% to $874.4 million in fiscal 2021 (which ended this January), its number of subscription customers increased 82% to 9,896, and its net retention rate stayed above 120%.
\n
In the first quarter of fiscal 2022, its revenue rose 70% year over year to $302.8 million, its subscriber base expanded 82% year over year to 11,420, and it kept its retention rate above 120%.
\n
CrowdStrike also turned profitable on a non-GAAP basis in 2021, with a net profit of $62.6 million. Its non-GAAP net income rose more than fivefold year over year to $23.3 million in the first quarter of 2022.
\n
Those numbers are impressive, but CrowdStrike still trades at about 350 times forward earnings and more than 40 times this year's sales. Let's take a look at three of those companies:Snowflake(NYSE:SNOW),Twilio(NYSE:TWLO), and CrowdStrike(NASDAQ:CRWD).\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\n1. Snowflake\nSnowflake was one of the hottest tech IPOs of 2020, thanks to its jaw-dropping growth rates and big investments from Berkshire Hathaway and salesforce.com.\nSnowflake'scloud-baseddata warehouse pulls all of a company's data onto a single platform, where it can then be fed into third-party data visualization apps. Its service breaks down the silos between different departments and computing platforms, which makes it easier for large companies to make data-driven decisions.\nSnowflake's number of customers jumped 73% to 4,139 in fiscal 2021 (which ended this January), including 186 of the Fortune 500 companies. Its revenue surged 124% to $592 million, as its net retention rate -- which gauges its year-over-year revenue growth per existing customer -- hit 165%.\nThat growth continued in the first quarter of 2022. Its revenue rose 110% year over year to $228.9 million, its number of customers increased 67% to 4,532, and it achieved a net retention rate of 168%.\nBut Snowflake isn't profitable yet. ItsGAAPnet loss widened from $348.5 million in fiscal 2020 to $539.1 million in fiscal 2021, andmore than doubledfrom $93.6 million to $203.2 million in the first quarter of 2022. It's also unprofitable on a non-GAAP basis, which excludes its stock-based compensation expenses.\nAnalysts expect Snowflake's revenue to rise 88% this year, with a narrower loss. However, its stock still trades at 65 times this year's sales -- which indicates there's still far too much growth baked into the stock. But if Snowflake gets cut in half in a crash, I'd considerstarting a big position.\n2. Twilio\nTwilio's cloud platform processes text messages, calls, and videos within apps. For example, it helps Lyft's passengers contact their drivers, and Airbnb's guests reach their hosts.\nIn the past, developers built those tools from scratch, which was generally time-consuming, buggy, and difficult to scale. However, developers can now outsource those features to Twilio's cloud service by simply adding a few lines of code to their apps.\nTwilio's revenue rose 55% to $1.76 billion in 2020. Its net expansion rate, which is comparable to Snowflake's net retention rate, reached 137%. In the first quarter of 2021, its revenue jumped 62% year over year to $590 million as it integrated its recent purchase of the customer data firm Segment.\nTwilio remains unprofitable on a GAAP basis, but its non-GAAP net income rose 62% to $35.9 million in 2020. In the first quarter of 2021, its non-GAAP net income rose another 15% to $9.6 million.\nAnalysts expect its revenue to rise 44% this year, but for its non-GAAP earnings to dip into the red again amid higher investments and rising A2P (application-to-person) fees, which are now charged by carriers whenever an app accesses an SMS network.\nThat near-term outlook doesn't look great for a stock that trades at nearly 30 times this year's sales. However, I still think Twilio has great growth potential, and I'd definitely buy its stock at a lower price.\n3. CrowdStrike\nCrowdStrike is a cybersecurity company that differs from its industry peers in one major way. Most cybersecurity companies install on-site appliances to support their services, which can be expensive to maintain and difficult to scale as an organization expands. CrowdStrike eliminates those appliances by offering its end-to-end security platform as a cloud-based service.\nCrowdStrike's growth clearly reflects its disruptive potential. Its revenue rose 82% to $874.4 million in fiscal 2021 (which ended this January), its number of subscription customers increased 82% to 9,896, and its net retention rate stayed above 120%.\nIn the first quarter of fiscal 2022, its revenue rose 70% year over year to $302.8 million, its subscriber base expanded 82% year over year to 11,420, and it kept its retention rate above 120%.\nCrowdStrike also turned profitable on a non-GAAP basis in 2021, with a net profit of $62.6 million. Its non-GAAP net income rose more than fivefold year over year to $23.3 million in the first quarter of 2022.\nThose numbers are impressive, but CrowdStrike still trades at about 350 times forward earnings and more than 40 times this year's sales. Therefore, this is another stock I won't buy unless the market crashes.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":309,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168025329,"gmtCreate":1623944737961,"gmtModify":1631890645433,"author":{"id":"3555258134444739","authorId":"3555258134444739","name":"Koey","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b00aea8cc65a7b91263ae19adeaa9eee","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555258134444739","authorIdStr":"3555258134444739"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great Thursday its next spaceflight test is targeting May 22, following the completion of a maintenance review of its carrier aircraft that threatened to delay the flight from this month.
\n
“Following a detailed inspection and thorough analysis of our mothership, Eve, we have cleared our Spaceflight System for our upcoming flight,” Virgin Galactic CEO Michael Colglazier said in a statement.
\n
Virgin Galactic leadership, when the company reported first quarter results last week, revealed that the target date for the next spaceflight test was under evaluation due to a possible maintenance issue with VMS Eve, the aircraft that carries the spacecraft before launch.
\n
Intel stock advanced 1.6% to $63.70 in Wednesday trading. When Gelsinger unveiled the company’s plans for the future in late March,Intel (ticker: INTC) said it expected full-year earnings of $4 a share from revenue of $76.5 billion. Including various adjustments, such as those related to Intel’s sale of its flash-memory business in 2020, EPS is likely to be $4.55, while revenue is expected to be $72 billion, the company said.\nAs part of the plan, Intel said it would once again license its x86 chip designs to other companies, and create a foundry services unit that would produce chips for third parties interested in paying Intel to fabricate semiconductors.\nIntel didn’t issue precise new financial guidance for the first quarter, but said it expected results better than its prior forecast. Previously, Intel said it expected adjusted first-quarter earnings of $1.10 a share and revenue of $17.5 billion. The consensus forecast is for adjusted earnings of $1.15 a share from revenue of $17.74 billion.\nSusquehanna Financial Group analyst Christopher Rolland,who called the company’s full-year guidance “underwhelming,” said he is expecting investors to focus on Gelsinger’s long-term plans for the company, and to look for more details about Intel’s next generation chip-making technology. According to the analyst’s data sources, notebook sales were strong in the first quarter, but it is less clear what’s coming through the rest of the year.\nAnalysts predict that Intel’s client computing segment, which includes notebook sales, will report first-quarter revenue of $10.02 billion. That is the company’s largest segment, followed by the data center operation, which is expected to report revenue of $5.84 billion.\nDespite Intel’s decision to double down on its manufacturing capabilities, BMO Capital Markets analyst Ambrish Srivastava wrote in a client note Monday that he isn’t expecting executives to offer details about its goals, and their effect on Intel’s financial performance.\nStill, Srivastava said, investors should watch closely for commentary about the impact to the company’s capital spending, profit, and free cash flow, among other things.\nIntel’s report arrives amid a global shortage of semiconductors that is hurting production of goods ranging from appliances to cars and videogame consoles. Gelsinger has previously told Barron’s that he expects the chip shortage to last two years.\nOf the analysts that cover Intel, 43% rate shares at Buy, 34% have Hold ratings, and 23% rate the stock at Sell. The average target for the stock price is $68.71, which implies a return of 8.6%.\nIntel stock advanced 1.6% to $63.70 in Wednesday trading. Shares in the chip maker have gained 12% in the past year, while the PHLX Semiconductor index, or Sox, has doubled.\nRolland pointed out that since Intel’s most recent quarterly report, its stock has gained 14%, while the Sox rose 5.8%. The analyst said that outperformance may indicate that expectations for the earnings are high, a potential negative for the stock.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":284,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
