On Thursday, they were among the market’s biggest losers.
\n
There’s a good reason for that. Banks generally make money by borrowing money short and lending it out long—andmaking a profit off the spread. When longer-term rates rise faster than shorter-term ones, bank margins generally get better, while the profits deteriorate when the opposite happens.
\n
After Wednesday’s meeting, the 10-year yield got a big bounce—it rose 0.071% to 1.569%—while thetwo-year yield rose0.038 percentage point to 0.203%, putting the spread between the two at 1.366 percentage points. That widening made the financial sector generally, and bank stocks specifically, one of the few sectors to react positively to the Fed’s announcement on Wednesday. TheSPDR S&P Bank ETF(KBE) rose 0.9%, whileJPMorgan Chase(JPM) rose 0.7%, even as theS&P 500fell 0.5%, theDow Jones Industrial Averagedropped 0.8%, and theNasdaq Compositedeclined 0.2%
\n
The market, however, has had a change of heart. The 10-year yield has fallen to 1.498%, while the two-year has risen to 0.238%, putting the gap at 1.26 percentage points. That so-called flattening of the yield curve is bad news for a rate-sensitive sector like banks. The SPDR S&P Bank ETF fell 4.5% on Thurdsay and 1% in premarket trading on Friday. JPMorgan dropped 2.9% on Thursday and is down about 1% on Friday. S&P 500 futures on Friday were down 0.6%, while Dow futures were down 0.8%. Futures for the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.4%.
\n
Why the about-face from the market? For yields to keep rising, the economy needs to show that it is recovering quickly. Otherwise, investors are going to bet on a repeat of the slow growth the U.S. experienced after the financial crisis of 2008. With jobless claims missing by a wide margin Thursday—and experiencing the first rise following six weeks of drops—the market decided to focus on the latter, not the former, says Evercore ISI strategist Dennis DeBusschere. “The risk to the economic outlook is the sharp turn to hawkish side, relative to what everyone previously thought, at the same time the labor market isn’t as strong as the Fed assumed,” he writes.
\n
Until that changes, it will be hard for bank stocks to bounce back.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Bank Stocks Were Fed Day Winners. Apple will give its employees at least a month's warning before mandating a return to offices, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing internal policy.\nChief executive officer Tim Cook said in June that employees should begin returning to offices in early September for at least three days a week. In an internal memo, Cook cited the availability of vaccinations and declining infection rates. Some employees of the Cupertino, California-based technology giant have worked from Apple offices on certain days throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.\nYet even with half the US vaccinated, Covid-19 continues to kill people faster than guns, car crashes and influenza combined, according to a Bloomberg review of mortality data. After 10 weeks of global declines in Covid deaths, the highly transmissible delta variant is driving a new uptick. In the US, health officials have warned that a similar reversal may be underway: Daily cases have doubled from a low point last month, and hospitalisations are rising again.\nCorporations across the globe are grappling with how to adjust to shifting work demands in the post-Covid era. Apple's decision comes as its own employees criticised the September deadline as too early.\nEven before Covid, the company had grappled with a potential loss of talent as workers - despite being relatively high earners - complain they can barely afford the extraordinary cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Just a few years after completing the multibillion-dollar Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California, Apple is now ramping up efforts to decentralise out of Silicon Valley.\nIn the tech industry, many workers have come to view remote work as a coveted perk. Several Silicon Valley companies have been bringing workers back to the office only slowly. Facebook has said it will drastically expand the number of employees who can work remotely even after the pandemic - although their salaries may be adjusted based on their location. And Alphabet's Google recently introduced a more permissive return-to-work policy that allows for staff to work from different locations or entirely from home.\nSeparately, Apple is said to be testing a hybrid in-store and work-from-home arrangement for retail employees, acknowledging that consumers may continue to prefer online shopping even as the pandemic eases.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":62,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":153733999,"gmtCreate":1625048908011,"gmtModify":1631885482710,"author":{"id":"3555000456336821","authorId":"3555000456336821","name":"gamerxyj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca581741e24428089f21c4e11ff275c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555000456336821","authorIdStr":"3555000456336821"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Time to go down ?","listText":"Time to go down ?","text":"Time to go down ?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/153733999","repostId":"1120731200","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1120731200","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1625047078,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1120731200?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-30 17:57","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Stocks Close at New Highs—Again. The print is expected to show an acceleration in rehiring and a step lower in the unemployment rate, helping alleviate some of the labor shortages reported across the economy as of late.
\n
Non-farm payrolls likely grew by 700,000 in June, according to Bloomberg consensus data. This would accelerate from the 559,000 added back in May and mark the biggest rise since March. And the unemployment rate is expected to move down to 5.6% from 5.8% in May, bringing the jobless rate closer to its pre-pandemic, 50-year low of 3.5%.
\n
\"Payrolls probably surged again in June, with the pace up from the +559,000 in May,\" TD Securities strategists wrote in a note Friday. \"Some acceleration in the private sector is suggested by the Homebase data, while government payrolls probably benefited from fewer than usual end-of-school-year layoffs.\"
\n
Even with a sizable monthly payroll gain, the economy would still be well off its pre-pandemic levels of employment. Heading into June, the U.S. economy was still down by more than 7 million payrolls compared to February 2020, with the deficit most pronounced in high-contact services industries like restaurants and hotels.
\n
But both services and manufacturing companies have cited shortages of qualified workers to fill open positions, which hit a record high of over 9 million as of latest data. These supply-and-demand mismatches in the labor market – with shortages noted by firms from FedEx (FDX) to Yum Brands (YUM) — have also begun to push wages higher and created additional costs for businesses. In Friday's report, average hourly earnings are expected to jump 3.6% year-on-year for June, accelerating from May's 2% increase.
\n
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 03: A pedestrian walks by a Now Hiring sign outside of a Lamps Plus store on June 03, 2021 in San Francisco, California. According to a U.S. Labor Department report, jobless claims fell for a fifth straight week to 385,000. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)Justin Sullivan via Getty Images
\n
\"Strong demand and weak supply should continue to put upward pressure on wages,\" Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer wrote in a note. \"Workers are quitting at a higher rate as they find better opportunities.\"
\n
However, a confluence of factors that have kept workers on the sidelines of the labor market may start to lessen in the coming months, some economists noted. Many have agreed that a combination of childcare concerns, fears of contracting COVID-19 and ongoing enhanced federal unemployment benefits have contributed to the still-elevated levels of joblessness, but that each of these should diminish as schools reopen, vaccinations continue and jobless benefits get phased out over the next several months.
\n
\"Labor supply may soon pick up,\" Meyer said. \"We find evidence of a quicker drop in unemployment insurance (UI) applications in states that discontinued generous federal UI benefits.\"
\n
\"Four states — Alaska, Iowa, Mississippi and Missouri — opted out in June 12 and UI applications in those states have fallen faster compared to other states, according to the latest initial jobless claims figures,\" she added. \"With another eight states opting out in the week ending June 19 and a total of 25 states by end of the summer, more workers should return to the workforce, helping to ease wage pressures and help meet the strong labor demand in the economy.\"
\n
Consumer confidence
\n

\n
Another closely watched economic data print this week will be the Conference Board's June consumer confidence index, which is expected to reflect a strong pick-up in sentiment during the recovery and heading into the summer. The report is due for release Tuesday morning.
\n
The headline index is likely to rise to 119.0 for June from 117.2 in May, according to Bloomberg consensus data. This would mark the highest level since February 2020's 132.6, which itself had been a near two-decade high.
\n
Like investors, consumers have begun to warm to the notion that inflationary pressures seen during the early stages of the economic recovery may prove transitory. This has helped raise consumers' future expectations for their spending power and boosted sentiment at large, according to other consumer sentiment surveys including the University of Michigan's Surveys of Consumers.
\n
Not only did year-ahead inflation expectations fall slightly to 4.2% in June from May's decade peak of 4.6%, consumers also believed that the price surges will mostly be temporary,\" Richard Curtin, chief economist for the Surveys of Consumers, said on Friday.
\n
\"When the pandemic first started, consumers were quite uncertain about their job and income prospects, but reported widespread declines in market prices for homes, vehicles, and household durables,\" he added. \"Those favorable price references have dropped to the most negative in a decade, and job and income prospects have improved, but not quite as favorable as in the last few years of the prior expansion.\"
\n
Still, in a sign of some downside risk in Tuesday's report from the Conference Board, the University of Michigan's June final sentiment index edged lower to 85.5, coming in below the 86.4 preliminary print, but still above May's reading of 82.9.
\n
Economic Calendar
\n
\n

Monday: Dallas Fed Manufacturing Activity Index, June (32.5 expected, 34.9 in May)

\n

Tuesday: FHFA House Price Index, month-on-month, April (1.7% expected, 1.4% in March); The print is expected to show an acceleration in rehiring and a step lower in the unemployment rate, helping alleviate some of the labor shortages reported across the economy as of late.\nNon-farm payrolls likely grew by 700,000 in June, according to Bloomberg consensus data. This would accelerate from the 559,000 added back in May and mark the biggest rise since March. And the unemployment rate is expected to move down to 5.6% from 5.8% in May, bringing the jobless rate closer to its pre-pandemic, 50-year low of 3.5%.\n\"Payrolls probably surged again in June, with the pace up from the +559,000 in May,\" TD Securities strategists wrote in a note Friday. \"Some acceleration in the private sector is suggested by the Homebase data, while government payrolls probably benefited from fewer than usual end-of-school-year layoffs.\"\nEven with a sizable monthly payroll gain, the economy would still be well off its pre-pandemic levels of employment. Heading into June, the U.S. economy was still down by more than 7 million payrolls compared to February 2020, with the deficit most pronounced in high-contact services industries like restaurants and hotels.\nBut both services and manufacturing companies have cited shortages of qualified workers to fill open positions, which hit a record high of over 9 million as of latest data. These supply-and-demand mismatches in the labor market – with shortages noted by firms from FedEx (FDX) to Yum Brands (YUM) — have also begun to push wages higher and created additional costs for businesses. In Friday's report, average hourly earnings are expected to jump 3.6% year-on-year for June, accelerating from May's 2% increase.\nSAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 03: A pedestrian walks by a Now Hiring sign outside of a Lamps Plus store on June 03, 2021 in San Francisco, California. According to a U.S. Labor Department report, jobless claims fell for a fifth straight week to 385,000. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)Justin Sullivan via Getty Images\n\"Strong demand and weak supply should continue to put upward pressure on wages,\" Bank of America economist Michelle Meyer wrote in a note. \"Workers are quitting at a higher rate as they find better opportunities.\"\nHowever, a confluence of factors that have kept workers on the sidelines of the labor market may start to lessen in the coming months, some economists noted. Many have agreed that a combination of childcare concerns, fears of contracting COVID-19 and ongoing enhanced federal unemployment benefits have contributed to the still-elevated levels of joblessness, but that each of these should diminish as schools reopen, vaccinations continue and jobless benefits get phased out over the next several months.\n\"Labor supply may soon pick up,\" Meyer said. \"We find evidence of a quicker drop in unemployment insurance (UI) applications in states that discontinued generous federal UI benefits.\"\n\"Four states — Alaska, Iowa, Mississippi and Missouri — opted out in June 12 and UI applications in those states have fallen faster compared to other states, according to the latest initial jobless claims figures,\" she added. \"With another eight states opting out in the week ending June 19 and a total of 25 states by end of the summer, more workers should return to the workforce, helping to ease wage pressures and help meet the strong labor demand in the economy.\"\nConsumer confidence\n\nAnother closely watched economic data print this week will be the Conference Board's June consumer confidence index, which is expected to reflect a strong pick-up in sentiment during the recovery and heading into the summer. The report is due for release Tuesday morning.\nThe headline index is likely to rise to 119.0 for June from 117.2 in May, according to Bloomberg consensus data. This would mark the highest level since February 2020's 132.6, which itself had been a near two-decade high.\nLike investors, consumers have begun to warm to the notion that inflationary pressures seen during the early stages of the economic recovery may prove transitory. This has helped raise consumers' future expectations for their spending power and boosted sentiment at large, according to other consumer sentiment surveys including the University of Michigan's Surveys of Consumers.\nNot only did year-ahead inflation expectations fall slightly to 4.2% in June from May's decade peak of 4.6%, consumers also believed that the price surges will mostly be temporary,\" Richard Curtin, chief economist for the Surveys of Consumers, said on Friday.\n\"When the pandemic first started, consumers were quite uncertain about their job and income prospects, but reported widespread declines in market prices for homes, vehicles, and household durables,\" he added. \"Those favorable price references have dropped to the most negative in a decade, and job and income prospects have improved, but not quite as favorable as in the last few years of the prior expansion.\"\nStill, in a sign of some downside risk in Tuesday's report from the Conference Board, the University of Michigan's June final sentiment index edged lower to 85.5, coming in below the 86.4 preliminary print, but still above May's reading of 82.9.\nEconomic Calendar\n\nMonday: Dallas Fed Manufacturing Activity Index, June (32.5 expected, 34.9 in May)\nTuesday: FHFA House Price Index, month-on-month, April (1.7% expected, 1.4% in March); Here’s how to prepare","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1118102755","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"Michael Brush advises on how you can avoid making mistakes as bond yields rise and the central bank ","content":"
\n Michael Brush advises on how you can avoid making mistakes as bond yields rise and the central bank reduces its stimulus.\n
\n
Don’t be fooled by the placid response to the highest inflation rate in over a decade. Inflation will remain elevated enough to shake up the stock market, possibly causing a selloff as much as 15%. You need to prepare now.
\n
The reason: Persistently high inflation will move the 10-year Treasury yield to 2% and get the Federal Reserve to start tapering its stimulus by the end of the year. Both will rattle the stock market.
\n
The government said June 10 that the cost of living surged in May and drove the pace of inflation to a 13-year high of 5%.
\n
What should you do? Probably the opposite of what you are thinking. Before we get to that, here is a look at the two key events for stocks — in the bond market and at the Fed — between today and the end of the year.
\n
Rising yields
\n
Remember how the stock market freaked out earlier this year when the 10-year Treasury yield TMUBMUSD10Y,1.452% moved up to around 1.7%? Well, expect a repeat. Only worse.
\n
“We suspect that inflation in the U.S. will prove more persistent than investors currently appear to anticipate,” says Capital Economics economist Franziska Palmas, citing the tight labor market and wage growth. Her research group puts the 10-year yield at 2.25% by the end of this year, and 2.5% by the end of 2022.
\n
That’ll be a big move from the current level of 1.5%. Stock investors tend to panic when interest rates rise a lot.
\n
Fed tapering
\n
Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has downplayed the need for tapering the central bank’s bond purchases to keep yields low. But half of the 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) have recently said they’re ready to start talking about tapering. The FOMC is the Fed branch that sets monetary policy.
\n
“It will be increasingly hard for Powell to claim the economy needs to make ‘substantial further progress’ toward achieving maximum employment before the Fed starts talking about talking about tapering,” says Ed Yardeni, author of Predicting the Markets and head of Yardeni Research. Powell has repeatedly said the Fed is awaiting “substantial further progress” in the economy before terminating its stimulus.
\n
“Given the performance of the economy, it is reasonable to expect they will start to taper before end of year, and a few months later they will start to raise the federal funds rate,” predicts Yardeni.
\n
He thinks the Fed will announce a decision to start tapering in its July meeting. Tapering refers to a reduction in bond purchases by the Fed. This tightens the money supply to put the brakes on growth. Once purchases go to zero, the Fed moves on to cutting rates.
\n
As we know, tapering causes a “taper tantrum” in the stock market, meaning a sharp selloff in indices like the S&P 500 SPX,+0.19%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,+0.04% and Nasdaq COMP,+0.35%.
\n
How to prepare
\n
When considering how to position for the probable selloff caused by rising bond yields and Fed tightening, the key things to remember is why these things are happening in the first place, and what history tells us about how stocks behave.
\n
The consensus view is that tapering and rising bond yields kill off economic growth and the bull market in stocks. But this isn’t actually true.
\n
Yes, initially, tightening can make stocks fall — or churn sideways, at best. But then stocks shake it off and move higher as the bull market continues. This makes sense, because the tightening is happening for good reasons that help companies — strong economic growth. This pushes earnings a lot higher, which resets valuations lower — back down to levels investors feel comfortable with.
\n
“Tapering is part and parcel of a recovery,” says Leuthold market strategist Jim Paulsen. “It is a response to successful policy and a rebound in the economy. It is a natural part of the bull market that allows the market to go higher. It’s a healthy development.”
\n
Looking through all the market fireworks that may lie ahead, Paulsen thinks underlying economic growth will push S&P 500 earnings up to $220 by the end of the year. Assuming the S&P 500 is at current levels or a little bit lower, that would bring the index’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio down to 18-19 — which is near or below the average since 1990. “That sets up the next leg of the bull market,” he says.
\n
Your five-point game plan
\n
1. Do not go to “defensives”
\n
When people see stock market turbulence, the knee-jerk reaction is to go for the “stability” of defensive names like utilities and consumer staples. But that would be a mistake. You want to go to defensives when the economy is slowing or contracting, not when it is strong. Another problem is that defensive names pay yield. So, like bonds, they get hit by rising interest rates, which devalue dividends — and dividend-paying stocks and bonds.
\n
“The best way to protect yourself is to tie your portfolio to the overheated economy. That is where the best profit growth and profit leverage is,” says Paulsen. “You do not get that with defensives.”
\n
2. Go with companies that benefit from growth
\n
Since rapid economic growth is causing the tapering — and the growth is usually not killed off by tightening — stocks linked to growth typically are the best place to be. This means cyclicals like industrials, basic materials consumer names, small-caps and international stocks. “Slower growth consumer staples and utilities won’t keep up with growth areas of the market,” says Paulsen.
\n
I first suggested Lindblad Expeditions LIND,+0.17% and Cardlytics CDLX,+4.54% and in my stock letter, Brush Up on Stocks (the link to my site is in the bio, below) in September 2020 and November 2019. I still like and own both even though they are up 48% and 157% — or two to four times the S&P 500. Recent insider buying confirms they are buys and holds around current levels. Plus, both are cyclical names. Cardlytics helps credit card companies understand customer buying patterns for marketing purposes. Lindblad offers specialized cruise adventures to exotic locales. Both benefit from economic growth that powers more consumer spending.
\n
3. Do not get out of stocks
\n
If you think a selloff is coming, it might be tempting to try to get out of stocks right before that, to buy back after the weakness happens. But this is a lot harder than you think. In fact, it is almost impossible to get the timing right, say market veterans.
\n
“You have to make two smart decisions,” says Yardeni. “You have to get out just before the correction and then you have to decide when to get back in. I don’t know of too many people that can do that consistently.”
\n
Market timers often get out and don’t get back in, and they miss the next leg up. “You can get yourself into trouble trying to avoid the correction,” says Paulsen.
\n
4. Do not own bonds
\n
Bond yields will be 2% or higher by the end of year. So don’t own bonds, whose prices fall when yields rise — unless you simply plan to hold to maturity to collect the income.
\n
5. Inflation will remain elevated enough to shake up the stock market, possibly causing a selloff as much as 15%. You need to prepare now.\nThe reason: Persistently high inflation will move the 10-year Treasury yield to 2% and get the Federal Reserve to start tapering its stimulus by the end of the year. Both will rattle the stock market.\nThe government said June 10 that the cost of living surged in May and drove the pace of inflation to a 13-year high of 5%.\nWhat should you do? Probably the opposite of what you are thinking. Before we get to that, here is a look at the two key events for stocks — in the bond market and at the Fed — between today and the end of the year.\nRising yields\nRemember how the stock market freaked out earlier this year when the 10-year Treasury yield TMUBMUSD10Y,1.452% moved up to around 1.7%? Well, expect a repeat. Only worse.\n“We suspect that inflation in the U.S. will prove more persistent than investors currently appear to anticipate,” says Capital Economics economist Franziska Palmas, citing the tight labor market and wage growth. Her research group puts the 10-year yield at 2.25% by the end of this year, and 2.5% by the end of 2022.\nThat’ll be a big move from the current level of 1.5%. Stock investors tend to panic when interest rates rise a lot.\nFed tapering\nFed Chairman Jerome Powell has downplayed the need for tapering the central bank’s bond purchases to keep yields low. But half of the 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) have recently said they’re ready to start talking about tapering. The FOMC is the Fed branch that sets monetary policy.\n“It will be increasingly hard for Powell to claim the economy needs to make ‘substantial further progress’ toward achieving maximum employment before the Fed starts talking about talking about tapering,” says Ed Yardeni, author of Predicting the Markets and head of Yardeni Research. Powell has repeatedly said the Fed is awaiting “substantial further progress” in the economy before terminating its stimulus.\n“Given the performance of the economy, it is reasonable to expect they will start to taper before end of year, and a few months later they will start to raise the federal funds rate,” predicts Yardeni.\nHe thinks the Fed will announce a decision to start tapering in its July meeting. Tapering refers to a reduction in bond purchases by the Fed. This tightens the money supply to put the brakes on growth. Once purchases go to zero, the Fed moves on to cutting rates.\nAs we know, tapering causes a “taper tantrum” in the stock market, meaning a sharp selloff in indices like the S&P 500 SPX,+0.19%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,+0.04% and Nasdaq COMP,+0.35%.\nHow to prepare\nWhen considering how to position for the probable selloff caused by rising bond yields and Fed tightening, the key things to remember is why these things are happening in the first place, and what history tells us about how stocks behave.\nThe consensus view is that tapering and rising bond yields kill off economic growth and the bull market in stocks. But this isn’t actually true.\nYes, initially, tightening can make stocks fall — or churn sideways, at best. But then stocks shake it off and move higher as the bull market continues. This makes sense, because the tightening is happening for good reasons that help companies — strong economic growth. This pushes earnings a lot higher, which resets valuations lower — back down to levels investors feel comfortable with.\n“Tapering is part and parcel of a recovery,” says Leuthold market strategist Jim Paulsen. “It is a response to successful policy and a rebound in the economy. It is a natural part of the bull market that allows the market to go higher. It’s a healthy development.”\nLooking through all the market fireworks that may lie ahead, Paulsen thinks underlying economic growth will push S&P 500 earnings up to $220 by the end of the year. Assuming the S&P 500 is at current levels or a little bit lower, that would bring the index’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio down to 18-19 — which is near or below the average since 1990. “That sets up the next leg of the bull market,” he says.\nYour five-point game plan\n1. Do not go to “defensives”\nWhen people see stock market turbulence, the knee-jerk reaction is to go for the “stability” of defensive names like utilities and consumer staples. But that would be a mistake. You want to go to defensives when the economy is slowing or contracting, not when it is strong. Another problem is that defensive names pay yield. So, like bonds, they get hit by rising interest rates, which devalue dividends — and dividend-paying stocks and bonds.\n“The best way to protect yourself is to tie your portfolio to the overheated economy. That is where the best profit growth and profit leverage is,” says Paulsen. “You do not get that with defensives.”\n2. Go with companies that benefit from growth\nSince rapid economic growth is causing the tapering — and the growth is usually not killed off by tightening — stocks linked to growth typically are the best place to be. This means cyclicals like industrials, basic materials consumer names, small-caps and international stocks. “Slower growth consumer staples and utilities won’t keep up with growth areas of the market,” says Paulsen.\nI first suggested Lindblad Expeditions LIND,+0.17% and Cardlytics CDLX,+4.54% and in my stock letter, Brush Up on Stocks (the link to my site is in the bio, below) in September 2020 and November 2019. Both benefit from economic growth that powers more consumer spending.\n3. Do not get out of stocks\nIf you think a selloff is coming, it might be tempting to try to get out of stocks right before that, to buy back after the weakness happens. But this is a lot harder than you think. In fact, it is almost impossible to get the timing right, say market veterans.\n“You have to make two smart decisions,” says Yardeni. “You have to get out just before the correction and then you have to decide when to get back in. I don’t know of too many people that can do that consistently.”\nMarket timers often get out and don’t get back in, and they miss the next leg up. “You can get yourself into trouble trying to avoid the correction,” says Paulsen.\n4. Do not own bonds\nBond yields will be 2% or higher by the end of year. So don’t own bonds, whose prices fall when yields rise — unless you simply plan to hold to maturity to collect the income.\n5. Go with financials\nStrong economies typically make the yield curve more upward sloping, meaning that long-term interest rates on 10-year Treasuries rise a lot faster than short-term interest rates. Since banks borrow at the short end and lend at the long end, steepening yield curves help them.\nThe strong economy will also help banks release reserves and lower provisions for loan losses, both of which can boost earnings, points out Yardeni. Both JPMorgan Chase JPM,-0.07% and Bank of America BAC,+0.41% are up over twice as much as the S&P 500 since I suggested them in my stock letter last August. But they still look attractive. Recent pattern buying by smart insiders among smaller banks confirms the sector is still one to own, despite the strength over the past few quarters.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":18,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":849744887,"gmtCreate":1635779507364,"gmtModify":1635779507364,"author":{"id":"3555000456336821","authorId":"3555000456336821","name":"gamerxyj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca581741e24428089f21c4e11ff275c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555000456336821","authorIdStr":"3555000456336821"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good stock ","listText":"Good stock ","text":"Good stock","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e98f1a5447dc8e4b817685b68b2207c7","width":"1125","height":"2176"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/849744887","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":544,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":815643067,"gmtCreate":1630677555159,"gmtModify":1631890322871,"author":{"id":"3555000456336821","authorId":"3555000456336821","name":"gamerxyj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca581741e24428089f21c4e11ff275c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555000456336821","authorIdStr":"3555000456336821"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"500 ???","listText":"500 ???","text":"500 ???","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/337bcf50a2ffd3cd3e4ed17e6612a850","width":"1125","height":"2482"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/815643067","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":31,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":173978838,"gmtCreate":1626609431224,"gmtModify":1633925517400,"author":{"id":"3555000456336821","authorId":"3555000456336821","name":"gamerxyj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca581741e24428089f21c4e11ff275c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555000456336821","authorIdStr":"3555000456336821"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok 👌 ","listText":"Ok 👌 ","text":"Ok 👌","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/173978838","repostId":"1123523681","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1123523681","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1626569903,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1123523681?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-18 08:58","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The story behind the savvy ‘Mystery Broker’ and where he sees the market going now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1123523681","media":"CNBC","summary":"“So, there’s this guy who emails me his market outlook every so often.”\nThat’s howmy Barron’s column","content":"
\n
“So, there’s this guy who emails me his market outlook every so often.”\nThat’s howmy Barron’s column started one week nearly a dozen years ago, introducing the canny and clear-thinking financial ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; He has no interest in having his name placed in print or pixels. And he is the one commentator I’m aware of who both turned aggressively bearish virtually at the all-time market peak in 2007, then in April began insisting that the March market lows would not be challenged, and that a new cyclical bull market had a long way to run.”\nThis broker’s dispatch to me in April 2009 — just weeks after the ultimate low of a wrenching 18-month bear market and terrifying global credit crisis — was a 12-page single-spaced argument that the financial crisis was over. This was far from the consensus at the time. A November 2007 piece had called for a brutal bear market, a month after the S&P 500 hit a peak it wouldn’t revisit until 2013 and before most investors even had a bear market on their radar.\nThe intention of airing his views was not to create some gimmick or generate cheap intrigue, but simply to offer the well-grounded thoughts of professional free of institutional constraints or the need to sell investment products.\nBut it did capture readers’ attention and imagination, to the point that requests for updates of the Mystery Broker’s market take come constantly. I continue it strictly because so many readers and viewers have followed his work for years and like to keep up\nAnd, yes, the whole exercise drives some people nuts, whether they think it’s irresponsible (which makes no sense, he gets no benefit and doesn’t hype small stocks that could move in his favor) or insist it’s a fictional alter ego (untrue).\nMystery Broker’s approach\nHe became a broker in the mid-’80s. While there’s long been a guessing game about MB’s identity, he is not someone who’s name anyone would know, he doesn’t otherwise comment publicly on investments.\nAs noted back in 2009: “He doesn’t claim any magic formulas or proprietary systems. His approach is eclectic and inclusive, ranging among economic, technical, historical, valuation and sentiment inputs.” He’ll cite Marty Zweig, Ned Davis and the Value Line Appreciation Potential indicators – fairly old-school inspirations – but doesn’t seem rigidly attached to any one model or style.\nI almost never solicit Mystery Broker’s take, preferring he check in only when it strikes him, often when he changes his market stance or is moved to reiterate his conviction in a prior call. Aside from the broad market commentary, he’ll sometimes make the case for or against individual stocks. He loved wells Fargo to start 2021, as well as GE, for instance.\nMystery Broker sometimes goes deep on a controversial emerging biotech name, the sort of thing I tend not to pass along. He was put off by CNBC’s heavy coverage of the “meme stocks” early this year and let me know it. He and I both have strong views on baseball, which we exchange via email. We’ve never met.\nHow he navigated the pandemic\nIn the past few months, Mystery Broker has been cautious on stocks and has missed a bit of upside. Specifically, he went to a sell (which tends to mean raising cash for clients and himself and hedging equity holdings with index puts) at the close on April 16, with the S&P 500 at 4185. The index went sideways for two months, then lifted to last week’s record up almost 5% from where he called for a correction.\nStill, he’s playing with a lot of house money, having been deftly bullish into the teeth of the March 2020 Covid crash. (He was negative on the market from January last year, though not because he expected either a pandemic or a crash).\nThe individual calls are viewable at the #MysteryBroker hashtag on Twitter, but to cite a few examples: He thought the March 4, 2020, low in the S&P 500 near 2900 would hold; it absolutely didn’t, plunging to about 2200 by the 23rd. But on March 26 he said the bottom was in, and within a month the S&P had recovered back to 2900.\nThen, this in mid-April 2020: He would normally look for a retest of the major low, but not then: ”“Because for the first time in stock market history the consensus is for a retest, a normal retest is not likely to happen.”\nThis was right, as was his preference for riskier cyclical stocks and his update June of last year: “We are in a new bull market...every correction should be bought...every time S&P 500 falls below its 50-day moving average is an extraordinary buying opportunity.”\nS&P 500 with 50-day moving averageFactSet\nAfter that and before predicting a correction three months ago that has yet to occur, he pegged the peak in FAANMG days before they topped last Sept. 1; said in late December the market had “entered the last hurrah for growth and speculative stocks” that would pressure the overall market but not necessarily drive across-the-board losses; and predicted bitcoin would peak coincident with the Coinbase listing (it did). Not perfect, but not bad.\nHis current outlook\nHis is not a system, but a weight-of-the-evidence approach pursued with an open mind and a feel for market cadences earned over more than three decades of economic cycles.\nFollowing up onhis latest update this week, I asked for a broader take on historical echoes and longer-term probabilities. Mystery Broker offers this:\n“I think the current recovery is most similar to the recovery in 2003-04. A big transition from hyper-growth to value. Also, valuations are already high after only one year of stock market and economic growth similar to 2003-4, although more extreme now. ” He expects “muted returns for the rest of decade similar to the low returns of the first decade of the 2000s. See leadership from industrials, healthcare and to some degree financials.”\n“Don’t expect technology to be a big outperformer and semiconductors will be a disappointment especially equipment semis that have benefitted from a few big trends over the last few years. Value, foreign stocks (expect dollar to fall over the next few years) and equal-weighted indices will outperform. Inflation and interest rates will slowly rise which is different from the last decade.\n“The big surprise will be how old industries adapt to new technology and fight off some of the hot new entries. There will be a lot of rebounds similar to how the New York Times came back from the dead last decade.”\nI also asked if he’s interested in being identified. The answer: not now, but maybe soon.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":105,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":153731814,"gmtCreate":1625049025338,"gmtModify":1633945471297,"author":{"id":"3555000456336821","authorId":"3555000456336821","name":"gamerxyj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca581741e24428089f21c4e11ff275c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555000456336821","authorIdStr":"3555000456336821"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy buy buy ","listText":"Buy buy buy ","text":"Buy buy buy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/153731814","repostId":"1150186389","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1150186389","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1625044819,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1150186389?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-30 17:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Which of the 10 Most Talked About Reddit Stocks Is Worth a Buy?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1150186389","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Like all investments, there are good Reddit stocks, and bad ones\nSource: Marcus Krauss / Shutterstoc","content":"
Like all investments, there are good Reddit stocks, and bad ones
\n
Source: Marcus Krauss / Shutterstock.com
\n
I must admit, when I was given this assignment my first thought was I’m the last guy to be talking about Reddit stocks. Even though the original opening date of July 1 is no longer on the table due to myriad reasons, it will ultimately produce millions of electric vehicles (EVs) for willing European buyers.
\n
The company has added a battery cell production component to the plant outside Berlin. It will produce 500 million cells annually representing 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy, 25% higher than Volkswagen’s(OTCMKTS:VWAGY) planned facility a couple hundred miles away.
\n
Across the pond in Texas, the company’s fifth so-called Gigafactory is getting closer to being ready for production. This plant will produce an updated version of the Model Y using “mega casting” technology to speed up the production process while delivering a lighter vehicle at the same time. It currently uses this technology at its plant in Shanghai.
\n
Tesla has afree cash flow (FCF) marginof 22.3% based on $35.94 billion in trailing-12-month revenue.
\n
KB Home (KBH)
\n
The largest homebuilders in America are having trouble keeping up with demand at the moment. At least for now, KB Home is meeting the demand from customers, 64% of which were first-time buyers in the latest quarter.
\n
“Operationally, our divisions are doing an excellent job of navigating this environment of demand strength and well-publicized supply chain constraints as we effectively balanced pace, price and starts to optimize our assets and manage our production,” said KB Home CEO Jeff Mezger in the Q2 2021 conference call.
\n
KB Home is so busy that the number of homes started in Q1 2021 and Q2 2021 was equivalent to 75% of the number of homes started for 2020. As a result, it expects to deliver $6 billion in housing revenue in 2021 at the midpoint of guidance, with operating margins between 11.5% and 12.0%.
\n
KB Home has anFCF margin of 6.5%based on $4.78 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.
\n
Palantir Technologies (PLTR)
\n
Palantir has been a public company for less than a year. The provider of data analytics software platforms for government agencies, corporations, and other large institutions, sold no shares last September when directly listedon the NYSE.
\n
The reference price was $7.25. PLTR stock is up 277.7% through the start of June 29.
\n
Not only is it growing its business — in the latest quarter, itsU.S. commercial revenuegrew 72% year-over-year while its U.S. government revenue jumped 83% YOY — it is also busy investing in other tech companies looking to go public.
\n
For example, it has invested in six private investments in public equity (PIPE) in the past three months. These PIPEs are part of the ongoing interest in special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). Palantir invests in the PIPEs to gain financial returns and collaborate with these companies, which use its data analytic tools for their businesses.
\n
I’m not 100% sold on Palantir just yet, but it’s a good long-term buy compared to some of the Reddit stocks on this list.
\n
Palantir has anFCF margin of 9%based on $1.2 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.
\n
Clean Energy Fuels(CLNE)
\n
Back in February,I recommended CLNE. At the time, it was trading around $12.97. It was one of seven stocks to buy under $20. As I write this, it’s just under $11, so it’s lost ground over the past four months.
\n
I liked Clean Energy for several reasons.
\n
First, it provides three kinds of natural gas fuel for commercial trucks: compressed (CNG), liquified (LNG), and renewable (RNG). It’s the only fuel provider to do so. Secondly, RNG fuel enables trucking companies to deliver their services while getting close to or achieving carbon negative status. Third, it’s got fueling stations in 43 states and Canada. Lastly, it’s got deep pockets.Total(OTCMKTS:TTFNF) owns 25% of its stock.
\n
Oh, and as I said in February, from an adjusted EBITDA basis (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), it makes money while also growing revenues at a steady pace.
\n
In the meantime, Clean Energy has anFCF margin of 24.2%based on $283 million in trailing 12-month revenue.
\n
BlackBerry (BB)
\n
I can remember when President Barack Obama first entered the White House in January 2009. The BlackBerry was considered the cat’s meow when it came to mobile phones. By the time he left office in January 2017, it was in the dustbin of history.
\n
Now supplying security software to automobile manufacturers and other enterprises and governments worldwide — a research firm recently said its QNX software is installed in195 million vehicles worldwide — the Reddit crowd have taken to the Waterloo, Ontario-based tech company.
\n
Things have turned around for BlackBerry.
\n
At least, enough so to provide CEO John Chen with a handsome compensation package. Proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis recently blasted the company, suggesting its compensation plan had no relation to its overall corporate performance.
\n
As a result of the January Reddit rally, which saw BB stock move from $6.70 at the beginning of the month to a 52-week high of $28.77 by the end, Chen could receive as much as $206 million in cash and stock compensation from the long-term incentives issued in 2019.
\n
On a GAAP basis,BlackBerry still loses money. That said, the pivot it’s made to software has given it another shot at tech stardom. We’ll see if it gain regain its former glory from the Obama years.
\n
In the meantime, BlackBerry has anFCF margin of 9.3%based on $861 million in trailing 12-month revenue.
\n
Workhorse Group (WKHS)
\n
The last time I wrote about Workhorse Group was in late April. At the time, it was trading around $12.50. I argued that if it got the backlog of 8,000 commercial electric vehicle delivery trucks out the door over the next 12 to 24 months, it would have an ultra-low price-to-sales ratio of 4.2.
\n
Long story short, if it did, its stock would be worth more than $12.50.
\n
Well, on June 16, Workhorse officially protested the United States Postal Service awarding the estimated $6 billion contract to manufacture its next-generation delivery vehicle to Oshkosh(NYSE:OSK). The news pushed WKHS to $17.54 at the start of June 29.
\n
InvestorPlace’s Dana Blankenhorn recently discussed Workhorse. He believes that the company was in the commercial EV game to ride on the coattails of big guns like Ford(NYSE:F) and General Motors(NYSE:GM). That’s not the craziest theory in the world.
\n
In the latest quarter, Workhorse delivered six trucks to customers and generated $521,000 in revenue. It plans to produce 1,000 trucks in 2021. It will have to pick up the pace if it wants to reach that goal. In the meantime, investors can expect its quarterly losses to accelerate as we make our way through the year.
\n
Workhorse has an FCF margin of -5,320.2% based on $1.83 million in trailing 12-month revenue. It is for speculative investors only.
\n
AMC Entertainment (AMC)
\n
AMC is a stock that I’m conflicted about.
\n
On the one hand, I believe that Americans will return to movie theaters in large numbers come fall. That will likely return the chain to pre-Covid revenue numbers. On the other hand, it has a burdensome debt load.
\n
Despite using the Reddit surge to raise much-needed cash to repay some of this debt — on June 3, it announced it would sell 11.55 million shares at the market to bring in another $600 million— it still has $11.05 billion owed, or 37.6% of its vastly overvalued market capitalization of $29.4 billion.
\n
Former E*Trade CEO Karl Roessner appeared on CNBC in early June. While he commended AMC management for selling shares when prices were high, the company is not worth $28 billion.
\n
“Absent some serious strategic undertakings by that company, it’s still just not worth what it’s trading for right now,” Roessner stated.
\n
I couldn’t agree more.
\n
AMC has anFCF margin of -280%based on $449 million in trailing 12-month revenue.
\n
ContextLogic (WISH)
\n
In February, I wrote an article about the e-commerce site with the headline“ContextLogic Has Nothing to Do With Retail”.I didn’t understand the composition of its board. It had no retail experience on its board to oversee the CEO.
\n
“If ContextLogic’s goal is to beat Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) at discount e-commerce apparel, its board of directors is a sure sign that’s not what it’s after,” I said.
\n
I finished the article by stating I didn’t get an inspirational vibe from Context Logic’s board of directors. In the four months since, WISH has lost 49% of its value and trades well below its IPO price of $24.
\n
ContextLogic has anFCF margin of -8%based on $2.87 billion in trailing 12-month revenue. I’m really not sure what Redditors see in this one.
\n
Globalstar (GSAT)
\n
Not everyone thinks the provider of mobile satellite services is a bad bet.
\n
B. Riley analyst Mike Crawford initiated coverage of Globalstar on June 21. The analyst gives it a “buy” rating and a $3.25 target price, double where it’s currently trading. He estimates that the company’s C-Band spectrum could be worth as much as $15 billion. Based on 1.79 billion shares outstanding, that’s $8.38 a share, considerably higher than the analyst’s target price.
\n
From where I sit, the fact that it’s currently trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 25.39 and not making money on a GAAP basis makes it very hard for me to get behind the company.
\n
However, Globalstar does have one big ace up its sleeve.
\n
On page 87 of its 2020 10-K, you will see that it had $1.8 billion in U.S. net operating loss (NOL) carryforwards with less than 1% expiring before 2025. It has an additional $200 million in foreign NOL carryforwards. So, should it start generating significant profits — that’s still very much up in the air — the loss carryforwards will shield the company’s earnings from taxes for the foreseeable future.
\n
Globalstar has anFCF margin of 18%based on $123 million in trailing 12-month revenue.
\n
Clover Health (CLOV)
\n
They say timing is everything.
\n
In early June, I wrote an article about the healthcare technology company, which uses data to provide healthcare plans for more than 130,000 Americans. At the time, I felt like there was a fair bit of upside resistance at $10.
\n
While I wouldn’t buy the money-losing stock, a patient investor with a higher than average risk tolerance would be wise to buy around $9, or hopefully less. And then came the June 8 Reddit-induced short squeeze, doubling CLOV’s share price within hours.
\n
“By afternoon trading [June 8], Clover had already traded over 650 million shares, 30 times more than its 30-day average volume of 22 million shares, according to FactSet,”CNBC‘s Yun Lireported. “By the closing bell on Wall Street, more than 720 million shares had changed hands.”
\n
CLOV stock closed June 7 trading at $11.92. By 4 p.m. the next day, it was over $22.
\n
In my article, I mentioned the investing lesson a 17-year-old learned about managing your expectations when playing with real money. I really hope he was able to sell his call options in the June surge. If not, the shares have still doubled from a month ago.
\n
Overall, it’s down slightly from its first day of trading on Jan. 8.
\n
Clover has anFCF margin of -24.2%based on $721 million in trailing 12-month revenue.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Which of the 10 Most Talked About Reddit Stocks Is Worth a Buy?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhich of the 10 Most Talked About Reddit Stocks Is Worth a Buy?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-30 17:20 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Like all investments, there are good Reddit stocks, and bad ones\nSource: Marcus Krauss / Shutterstock.com\nI must admit, when I was given this assignment my first thought was I’m the last guy to be ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"WKHS":"Workhorse Group, Inc.","AMC":"AMC院线","CLNE":"Clean Energy Fuels Corp","GSAT":"全球星","BB":"黑莓","KBH":"KB Home","TSLA":"特斯拉","PLTR":"Palantir Technologies Inc.","CLOV":"Clover Health Corp"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/06/which-of-the-10-most-talked-about-reddit-stocks-is-worth-a-buy/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1150186389","content_text":"Like all investments, there are good Reddit stocks, and bad ones\nSource: Marcus Krauss / Shutterstock.com\nI must admit, when I was given this assignment my first thought was I’m the last guy to be talking about Reddit stocks. Palantir invests in the PIPEs to gain financial returns and collaborate with these companies, which use its data analytic tools for their businesses.\nI’m not 100% sold on Palantir just yet, but it’s a good long-term buy compared to some of the Reddit stocks on this list.\nPalantir has anFCF margin of 9%based on $1.2 billion in trailing 12-month revenue.\nClean Energy Fuels(CLNE)\nBack in February,I recommended CLNE. At the time, it was trading around $12.97. It was one of seven stocks to buy under $20. As I write this, it’s just under $11, so it’s lost ground over the past four months.\nI liked Clean Energy for several reasons.\nFirst, it provides three kinds of natural gas fuel for commercial trucks: compressed (CNG), liquified (LNG), and renewable (RNG). It’s the only fuel provider to do so. Secondly, RNG fuel enables trucking companies to deliver their services while getting close to or achieving carbon negative status. Third, it’s got fueling stations in 43 states and Canada. Lastly, it’s got deep pockets.Total(OTCMKTS:TTFNF) owns 25% of its stock.\nOh, and as I said in February, from an adjusted EBITDA basis (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), it makes money while also growing revenues at a steady pace.\nIn the meantime, Clean Energy has anFCF margin of 24.2%based on $283 million in trailing 12-month revenue.\nBlackBerry (BB)\nI can remember when President Barack Obama first entered the White House in January 2009. The BlackBerry was considered the cat’s meow when it came to mobile phones. By the time he left office in January 2017, it was in the dustbin of history.\nNow supplying security software to automobile manufacturers and other enterprises and governments worldwide — a research firm recently said its QNX software is installed in195 million vehicles worldwide — the Reddit crowd have taken to the Waterloo, Ontario-based tech company.\nThings have turned around for BlackBerry.\nAt least, enough so to provide CEO John Chen with a handsome compensation package. Proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis recently blasted the company, suggesting its compensation plan had no relation to its overall corporate performance.\nAs a result of the January Reddit rally, which saw BB stock move from $6.70 at the beginning of the month to a 52-week high of $28.77 by the end, Chen could receive as much as $206 million in cash and stock compensation from the long-term incentives issued in 2019.\nOn a GAAP basis,BlackBerry still loses money. That said, the pivot it’s made to software has given it another shot at tech stardom. We’ll see if it gain regain its former glory from the Obama years.\nIn the meantime, BlackBerry has anFCF margin of 9.3%based on $861 million in trailing 12-month revenue.\nWorkhorse Group (WKHS)\nThe last time I wrote about Workhorse Group was in late April. At the time, it was trading around $12.50. I argued that if it got the backlog of 8,000 commercial electric vehicle delivery trucks out the door over the next 12 to 24 months, it would have an ultra-low price-to-sales ratio of 4.2.\nLong story short, if it did, its stock would be worth more than $12.50.\nWell, on June 16, Workhorse officially protested the United States Postal Service awarding the estimated $6 billion contract to manufacture its next-generation delivery vehicle to Oshkosh(NYSE:OSK). The news pushed WKHS to $17.54 at the start of June 29.\nInvestorPlace’s Dana Blankenhorn recently discussed Workhorse. He believes that the company was in the commercial EV game to ride on the coattails of big guns like Ford(NYSE:F) and General Motors(NYSE:GM). That’s not the craziest theory in the world.\nIn the latest quarter, Workhorse delivered six trucks to customers and generated $521,000 in revenue. It plans to produce 1,000 trucks in 2021. It will have to pick up the pace if it wants to reach that goal. In the meantime, investors can expect its quarterly losses to accelerate as we make our way through the year.\nWorkhorse has an FCF margin of -5,320.2% based on $1.83 million in trailing 12-month revenue. It is for speculative investors only.\nAMC Entertainment (AMC)\nAMC is a stock that I’m conflicted about.\nOn the one hand, I believe that Americans will return to movie theaters in large numbers come fall. That will likely return the chain to pre-Covid revenue numbers. On the other hand, it has a burdensome debt load.\nDespite using the Reddit surge to raise much-needed cash to repay some of this debt — on June 3, it announced it would sell 11.55 million shares at the market to bring in another $600 million— it still has $11.05 billion owed, or 37.6% of its vastly overvalued market capitalization of $29.4 billion.\nFormer E*Trade CEO Karl Roessner appeared on CNBC in early June. While he commended AMC management for selling shares when prices were high, the company is not worth $28 billion.\n“Absent some serious strategic undertakings by that company, it’s still just not worth what it’s trading for right now,” Roessner stated.\nI couldn’t agree more.\nAMC has anFCF margin of -280%based on $449 million in trailing 12-month revenue.\nContextLogic (WISH)\nIn February, I wrote an article about the e-commerce site with the headline“ContextLogic Has Nothing to Do With Retail”.I didn’t understand the composition of its board. It had no retail experience on its board to oversee the CEO.\n“If ContextLogic’s goal is to beat Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) at discount e-commerce apparel, its board of directors is a sure sign that’s not what it’s after,” I said.\nI finished the article by stating I didn’t get an inspirational vibe from Context Logic’s board of directors. In the four months since, WISH has lost 49% of its value and trades well below its IPO price of $24.\nContextLogic has anFCF margin of -8%based on $2.87 billion in trailing 12-month revenue. I’m really not sure what Redditors see in this one.\nGlobalstar (GSAT)\nNot everyone thinks the provider of mobile satellite services is a bad bet.\nB. Riley analyst Mike Crawford initiated coverage of Globalstar on June 21. The analyst gives it a “buy” rating and a $3.25 target price, double where it’s currently trading. He estimates that the company’s C-Band spectrum could be worth as much as $15 billion. Based on 1.79 billion shares outstanding, that’s $8.38 a share, considerably higher than the analyst’s target price.\nFrom where I sit, the fact that it’s currently trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 25.39 and not making money on a GAAP basis makes it very hard for me to get behind the company.\nHowever, Globalstar does have one big ace up its sleeve.\nOn page 87 of its 2020 10-K, you will see that it had $1.8 billion in U.S. net operating loss (NOL) carryforwards with less than 1% expiring before 2025. It has an additional $200 million in foreign NOL carryforwards. So, should it start generating significant profits — that’s still very much up in the air — the loss carryforwards will shield the company’s earnings from taxes for the foreseeable future.\nGlobalstar has anFCF margin of 18%based on $123 million in trailing 12-month revenue.\nClover Health (CLOV)\nThey say timing is everything.\nIn early June, I wrote an article about the healthcare technology company, which uses data to provide healthcare plans for more than 130,000 Americans. At the time, I felt like there was a fair bit of upside resistance at $10.\nWhile I wouldn’t buy the money-losing stock, a patient investor with a higher than average risk tolerance would be wise to buy around $9, or hopefully less. And then came the June 8 Reddit-induced short squeeze, doubling CLOV’s share price within hours.\n“By afternoon trading [June 8], Clover had already traded over 650 million shares, 30 times more than its 30-day average volume of 22 million shares, according to FactSet,”CNBC‘s Yun Lireported. “By the closing bell on Wall Street, more than 720 million shares had changed hands.”\nCLOV stock closed June 7 trading at $11.92. By 4 p.m. the next day, it was over $22.\nIn my article, I mentioned the investing lesson a 17-year-old learned about managing your expectations when playing with real money. I really hope he was able to sell his call options in the June surge. If not, the shares have still doubled from a month ago.\nOverall, it’s down slightly from its first day of trading on Jan. 8.\nClover has anFCF margin of -24.2%based on $721 million in trailing 12-month revenue.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":36,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":825207219,"gmtCreate":1634225233178,"gmtModify":1634225260838,"author":{"id":"3555000456336821","authorId":"3555000456336821","name":"gamerxyj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca581741e24428089f21c4e11ff275c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555000456336821","authorIdStr":"3555000456336821"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$50 ???","listText":"$50 ???","text":"$50 ???","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7eb2ce19a757bd22191b67ae4a69835d","width":"1125","height":"2946"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/825207219","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":161,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":867984095,"gmtCreate":1633187368636,"gmtModify":1633187368788,"author":{"id":"3555000456336821","authorId":"3555000456336821","name":"gamerxyj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca581741e24428089f21c4e11ff275c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555000456336821","authorIdStr":"3555000456336821"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"买! buy ","listText":"买! buy ","text":"买! buy","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a04d83f57f27eb6e83305c83c99a06e4","width":"1125","height":"2670"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/867984095","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":112,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":864232345,"gmtCreate":1633103759819,"gmtModify":1633103759978,"author":{"id":"3555000456336821","authorId":"3555000456336821","name":"gamerxyj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca581741e24428089f21c4e11ff275c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555000456336821","authorIdStr":"3555000456336821"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Can buy and hold !
