Southeast Asian ride-hailing and delivery company Grab Holdings(NASDAQ:GRAB) completed a revers","content":"
When Southeast Asian ride-hailing and delivery company Grab Holdings(NASDAQ:GRAB) completed a reverse merger with special purpose acquisition company Altimeter Growth Corp. in early December it made history as the largest company to go public via a SPAC merger. Yet, this didn’t stop GRAB stock from plummeting more than 20% on the day of the merger.
\n
Since then, investors have continued to give GRAB stock the cold shoulder, with shares falling another 16% to trade at $7.34 at the time of this writing.
\n
Now, before you write off an investment in Grab Holdings, consider that the company is still in the early innings and let’s consider where GRAB stock could go from here.
\n
What’s Behind Grab’s Cool Reception?
\n
Grab is the largest ride-hailing and delivery company in Southeast Asia, with operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serving more than 187 million users.
\n
There are a number of plausible explanations for why GRAB stock has not been well-received by investors.
\n
For starters, growth estimates for the Southeast Asian region have been lowered recently primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic. In September, the Asian Development Bank dropped its 2021 growth forecast for the region to 3.1% from 4.4% previously.
\n
Widespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.
\n
Grab reported its third-quarter results on Nov. 11. Revenue fell 9% year over year to $157 million, with the company citing “a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.” Falling revenue is obviously not something investors want to see, especially from a company that has yet to turn a profit.
\n
Yet, the company did report a 32% year-over-year increase in gross merchandise value, with the dollar value of transactions from Grab’s services rising to $4.04 billion thanks to strength in the company’s deliveries segment.
\n
There’s Reason for Optimism
\n
The deal to go public through the merger with Altimeter Growth Corp. valued Grab at close to $40 billion, which as I mentioned, was a record. The fact that three weeks later GRAB stock has a market cap of about $27.5 billion tells us that perhaps things got a bit too heated. However, there is reason for optimism.
\n
The ride-hailing platform has secured the backing of significant players across related industries, including DiDi Global(NYSE:DIDI),Toyota(NYSE:TM) and SoftBank’s(OTCMKTS:SFTBY) Vision Fund.
\n
Grab Holdings also has some positive catalysts on the horizon. For example, the company recently announced that it will be purchasing Jaya Grocer, a premium supermarket chain in Malaysia.
\n
This acquisition fits nicely with the ride-hailing and delivery business model the company seeks to expand. Management refers to the model as a “superapp” focus, whereby users can access multiple services in a single, convenient location.
\n
The Bottom Line on GRAB Stock
\n
I can’t say Grab Holdings can immediately turn things around. But its potential in the burgeoning Southeast Asian market means it remains relevant and has a long runway.
\n
Of the six analysts following GRAB stock, two rate it a “buy” and there are no “sell” ratings, according to The Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, the consensus price target stands at $12.25, which represents upside of 67% from current levels.
\n
GRAB stock is very cheap now, so it’s hardly a dangerous speculative play. There’s a good argument to be made for investing now and hoping that the company continues to expand its footprint. Profitability should follow.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Grab Stock May Be Down But It Isn’t Out
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nGrab Stock May Be Down But It Isn’t Out\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-23 11:30 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
When Southeast Asian ride-hailing and delivery company Grab Holdings(NASDAQ:GRAB) completed a reverse merger with special purpose acquisition company Altimeter Growth Corp. in early December it made ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"GRAB":"Grab Holdings"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/12/grab-stock-may-be-down-but-it-isnt-out/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1184389618","content_text":"When Southeast Asian ride-hailing and delivery company Grab Holdings(NASDAQ:GRAB) completed a reverse merger with special purpose acquisition company Altimeter Growth Corp. in early December it made history as the largest company to go public via a SPAC merger. Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said in an interview he has sold \"enough stock\" following several weeks of share sales by the billionaire.
\n
U.S. consumer confidence improved further in December, suggesting the economy would continue to expand in 2022. The survey from the Conference Board showed more consumers planned to buy a house and big-ticket items such as motor vehicles and major household appliances as well as go on vacation over the next six months.
\n
Other reports showed U.S. home sales increased for a third straight month in November, and that gross domestic product increased at a 2.3% annualized rate in the July-September quarter, revised up from the 2.1% rate estimated last month.
\n
In another encouraging development against the pandemic, the United States authorized Pfizer Inc's oral antiviral COVID-19 pill for at-risk people aged 12 and above, making it the first at-home treatment for the coronavirus. Pfizer shares rose 1%.
\n
The benchmark S&P 500 is now up 25% so far in 2021.
Yet, this didn’t stop GRAB stock from plummeting more than 20% on the day of the merger.\nSince then, investors have continued to give GRAB stock the cold shoulder, with shares falling another 16% to trade at $7.34 at the time of this writing.\nNow, before you write off an investment in Grab Holdings, consider that the company is still in the early innings and let’s consider where GRAB stock could go from here.\nWhat’s Behind Grab’s Cool Reception?\nGrab is the largest ride-hailing and delivery company in Southeast Asia, with operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serving more than 187 million users.\nThere are a number of plausible explanations for why GRAB stock has not been well-received by investors.\nFor starters, growth estimates for the Southeast Asian region have been lowered recently primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic. In September, the Asian Development Bank dropped its 2021 growth forecast for the region to 3.1% from 4.4% previously.\nWidespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.\nGrab reported its third-quarter results on Nov. 11. Revenue fell 9% year over year to $157 million, with the company citing “a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.” Falling revenue is obviously not something investors want to see, especially from a company that has yet to turn a profit.\nYet, the company did report a 32% year-over-year increase in gross merchandise value, with the dollar value of transactions from Grab’s services rising to $4.04 billion thanks to strength in the company’s deliveries segment.\nThere’s Reason for Optimism\nThe deal to go public through the merger with Altimeter Growth Corp. valued Grab at close to $40 billion, which as I mentioned, was a record. The fact that three weeks later GRAB stock has a market cap of about $27.5 billion tells us that perhaps things got a bit too heated. However, there is reason for optimism.\nThe ride-hailing platform has secured the backing of significant players across related industries, including DiDi Global(NYSE:DIDI),Toyota(NYSE:TM) and SoftBank’s(OTCMKTS:SFTBY) Vision Fund.\nGrab Holdings also has some positive catalysts on the horizon. For example, the company recently announced that it will be purchasing Jaya Grocer, a premium supermarket chain in Malaysia.\nThis acquisition fits nicely with the ride-hailing and delivery business model the company seeks to expand. Management refers to the model as a “superapp” focus, whereby users can access multiple services in a single, convenient location.\nThe Bottom Line on GRAB Stock\nI can’t say Grab Holdings can immediately turn things around. But its potential in the burgeoning Southeast Asian market means it remains relevant and has a long runway.\nOf the six analysts following GRAB stock, two rate it a “buy” and there are no “sell” ratings, according to The Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, the consensus price target stands at $12.25, which represents upside of 67% from current levels.\nGRAB stock is very cheap now, so it’s hardly a dangerous speculative play. There’s a good argument to be made for investing now and hoping that the company continues to expand its footprint. Profitability should follow.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":632,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":177051874,"gmtCreate":1627171286498,"gmtModify":1631889571453,"author":{"id":"3554943805274078","authorId":"3554943805274078","name":"WEESTOCK","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0ee7d90d81910c23a178da01c534123e","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[强] ","listText":"[强] ","text":"[强]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/177051874","repostId":"2153388319","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2153388319","pubTimestamp":1627088419,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2153388319?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-24 09:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here are Wall Street's favorite big tech stocks as the Nasdaq closes in on another milestone","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2153388319","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"As the Nasdaq Composite Index nears 15,000, analysts see upside for Activision Blizzard, Netflix and","content":"
As the Nasdaq Composite Index nears 15,000, analysts see upside for Activision Blizzard, Netflix and Baidu, among others
\n
Some 88% of analysts rate Activision Blizzard \"buy,\" and their consensus price target is 27% above the stock's closing price July 23. in a further step toward recovering from the safety grounding of a smaller model.
\n
The plane completed a roughly 2-1/2-hour flight over Washington State, returning to Renton Municipal Airport near Seattle at 12:38 p.m.
\n
The first flight heralds months of testing and safety certification work before the jet is expected to enter service in 2023.
\n
In an unusual departure from the PR buzz surrounding first flights, the event was kept low-key as Boeing tries to navigate overlapping crises caused by a 20-month grounding in the wake of two crashes and the COVID-19 pandemic.
\n
Boeing's 230-seat 737-10 is designed to close the gap between its 178-to-220-seat 737-9, and Airbus's 185-to-240-seat A321neo, which dominates the top end of the narrowbody jet market, worth some $3.5 trillion over 20 years.
\n
However, the market opportunity for the 737 MAX 10 is constrained by the jet's range of about 3,300 nautical miles (6,100 km), which falls short December.
\n
Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal said the company is producing about 16 737 MAX jets a month at its Renton factory.
\n
Boeing is working on safety enhancements for the This is up from the 10 per cent who do so currently, said Jacquelyn Tan, head of Group Personal Financial Services, UOB.\nIn a media briefing on Thursday, she announced that the bank will pump in more than S$200 million in digital innovation over the next three years to serve consumers.\nSimpleInvest is among UOB's suite of digital wealth solutions that will enable customers to choose from three portfolios on its banking app UOB Mighty called \"Liquidity\", \"Income\" and \"Growth\", in ascending order of risk.\nUnlike a robo-advisory, the portfolios will be actively managed. UOB had partnered UOB Asset Management to develop the \"Income\" and \"Growth\" portfolios which invest in funds selected by the bank, with funds actively managed by asset managers such as Allianz, Fidelity international, JPMorgan Asset Management, Schroders and UBS Asset Management. Meanwhile, the \"Liquidity\" portfolio will be managed by UOB Asset Management directly.\nThe \"Liquidity\" portfolio will invest in high-quality bonds, money market instruments and bank deposits, while the \"Income\" portfolio will invest in fixed income, equity and multi-asset funds. The \"Growth\" portfolio will invest in equity funds diversified across sectors and regions which are beneficiaries of structural growth themes such as healthcare, artificial intelligence, and sustainability.\nThere will be a 0.8 per cent sales charge deducted from the investment amount.\nMs Tan said that during the pilot, two in three customers were either millennials or those who parked money in a savings account and wanted to make their money work harder. One in three has also gone on to set up regular investment plans.\n\"While the barriers to accessing digital financial solutions have lowered, our research has shown that consumers can feel overwhelmed by a plethora of products,\" she noted. \"Our approach is to guide customers to the solutions that make the most sense for their financial goals and we use a combination of human expertise and technology to do so.\"\nUOB's SimpleInvest will be progressively rolled out across the other markets in the region over the next few years.\nWhen asked if UOB is slow to the game as rival banks and fintechs have already rolled out various investment products ranging from curated portfolios to robo-advisors over the past few years, Ms Tan only said that the bank focused on being \"very thoughtful\" in the way the product was structured.\n\"We really took the time to understand what is it, from a customer's perspective, is important to them, and how we can address it through simple solutions and transparency in fees,\" she said. \"It needs to fit in the strategic intent and a bigger story, otherwise we are just growing in parts.\"\nThis drive to expand digital wealth management solutions for customers is in line with UOB's omni-channel approach, said Ms Tan. She cited the bank's research which found that two in three customers still prefer face-to-face wealth advisory for more complex financial transaction.\nWhile the bank continues to ramp up digital investments, it is also constantly reviewing its physical network to better serve customers, added Ms Tan.\nThe bank has repurposed several of its branches over the years to include more space for wealth management advisory and offloading low-value transactions, with this trend likely to continue.\nShe believes that the bank's omni-channel approach to wealth management also puts it in good stead to fend off digital bank rivals that will start operations next year. \"Yes, we think we are well-positioned even with the digital banks coming in, because our transformation journey started many years ago,\" she said, adding that there will be more such innovations in the pipeline for UOB.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":531,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":128053344,"gmtCreate":1624496055588,"gmtModify":1631891998979,"author":{"id":"3554943805274078","authorId":"3554943805274078","name":"WEESTOCK","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0ee7d90d81910c23a178da01c534123e","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[强] ","listText":"[强] ","text":"[强]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/128053344","repostId":"2145156570","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":534,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
