Here's why I think Upstart Holdings (NASDAQ:UPST) and Datadog (NASDAQ:DDOG) are two of the best places I see for money to go today.
\n
\n
1. Upstart
\n
Shares of Upstart have been on a roller-coaster ride recently. The company -- which is bringing a different approach to loan determination -- is up nearly 260% year to date, yet shares at one point were up over 750% year to date.
\n
This is for good reason. The company is pairing machine learning and artificial intelligence with the loan determination process. The company evaluates 1,000 variables and over 10 million repayments to determine creditworthiness, and its variables range from employment to application interaction. This process is unique compared to traditional processes that have a few dozen variables and rely mainly on the FICO score.
\n
Because of its new approach, many smaller banks that are trying to offer credit to a wider population have rapidly adopted Upstart. The company's customer count nearly tripled year to date, and the company's trailing-12-month volume on loan decisions increased 120% from the year-ago period to $8.8 billion.
\n
With less than $9 billion in volume, Upstart's growth runway is extremely large. The company is targeting a $5 trillion market, and its investments in engineering & development and sales expenses will likely allow it to gain market share. What's better is that even after spending over $130 million on these two expense categories in the third quarter, the company was able to bring nearly $29 million to the bottom line.
\n
The company is not cheap. Upstart is valued at 21 times sales, but when I find a profitable company that is seeing adoption at the rate Upstart is, I tend to be more willing to pay up. Mainly because the investment is likely to be worthwhile for future returns. The investments it is making, along with its rule-breaking solution, make me incredibly excited to hold Upstart for the next decade and beyond.
\n
2. Datadog
\n
Datadog's specialty is in monitoring and visibility. It allows its customers to monitor their entire cloud presence for performance, engagement, and security. This complete monitoring platform uses data from over 10 trillion events daily to recognize patterns and allow businesses to take actionable insights when something might be wrong with their cloud platforms.
\n
As the company gets more customers and they use more products -- which gives Datadog more data -- Datadog can give more accurate insight into the problems its customers might have. This means that the more customers use Datadog, the more effective and useful it is to everyone.
\n
Datadog has done an excellent job of attracting new users and bringing existing users deeper into its ecosystem. The company has roughly 17,500 customers, which grew 34% year over year, and the number of products per customer has substantially increased. Seventy-seven percent of customers used two or more products, and 31% used four or more in Q3, compared to 71% and 20% respectively in the year-ago quarter.
\n
Where the company shines is its product stickiness. The company added 10 new products and features to its platform in Q3 alone, and the strong customer adoption has benefited Datadog. Its net retention rate is over 130%, and the number of customers spending over $100,000 grew 66% year over year in Q3 to 1,800. With this kind of relationship expansion, it would be incredibly hard for a customer to switch away from using Datadog because so much of its business is already entrenched in the platform.
\n
The company sees a current market opportunity of $38 billion, but that is expected to grow to $53 billion by 2025. It wouldn't be surprising to see Datadog grow that even further. The company has launched 19 products since 2019, and that probably won't stop. All of those products it launched undoubtedly increased its addressable market, and if this continues, the company's opportunity could be much larger than $53 billion by 2025.
\n
If Datadog can continue adding products and gain increased adoption from existing customers, I think this company could continue to explode over the next five years. Shares have already increased over 360% over the past five years, but if the company can maintain expanding its market and capitalizing on its competitive advantages, I believe that shares could increase another 360% or more over the next five years.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
The Best Stocks to Invest $50,000 in Right Now
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThe Best Stocks to Invest $50,000 in Right Now\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-16 10:12 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Over the past decade, the S&P 500 has risen in price by nearly 275%, not adjusting for inflation. But Palantir Technologies(NYSE:PLTR) has defied that way of thinking as of late. PLTR stock has been a major disappointment for investors so far this year.
\n
Since hitting an all-time high of $45 in late January, shares of the big data analytics company are down roughly 57%. In the past month alone, PLTR stock is down nearly 28%.
\n
That includes the post-earnings sell-off following the company’s third-quarter report, despite Palantir beating revenue expectations and delivering a strong outlook for the current quarter.
\n
Can PLTR stock turn its fortunes around in 2022? Let’s take a closer look.
\n
Palantir at a Glance
\n
Founded by Peter Thiel in 2003, Palantir Technologies went public via a direct listing in September 2020 and currently has a market cap of $38.8 billion. The company is headquartered in Denver and actually gets its name from J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings series.“Palantiri” were magical and indestructible crystal balls that were used to communicate and see other parts of that fabled world.
\n
What Palantir does isn’t magical, but it is pretty cool. Palantir’s software allows government and private sector businesses to analyze and manage massive amounts of data, detecting meaningful patterns and connections. Its data sets are considered to be highly secure compared to its peers, which is why the company is sometimes considered a cybersecurity play.
\n
Some of Palantir’s first clients were U.S. intelligence agencies and the Pentagon. Over the past few years, the company has been growing its client base to include private firms, other federal agencies, and some state and local governments. For example, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services uses Palantir software to track vaccine distribution.
\n
Palantir Delivers a Strong Q3 Earnings Report
\n
The company’s third-quarter earnings report should have been a positive for PLTR stock. Palantir posted $392 million in revenue, while analysts had expected only $385 million. Earnings of 4 cents per share met expectations.
\n
Revenue was up 36% from the same quarter a year ago. However, some investors may have been disappointed as the previous two quarters saw 49% year-over-year growth.
\n
For the fourth quarter, management expects revenue to increase 30% to $418 million, which was ahead of the consensus estimate of $402 million. Palantir projects full-year revenue of $1.53 billion, which would be a year-over-year increase of 40%. Through 2025, management believes it can grow revenue at least 30% annually.
\n
The company used its earnings call to promote its new platform, Apollo, which it described as a new continuous delivery system that brings software-as-a-service (SaaS) management to its platforms. COO Shyam Sankar stated:
\n
\n Once again, we are building five years ahead of the market, software shamans building technology that will meet its moment. With our latest investments, you will be able to develop streaming pipelines in Foundry that you then package up, version, and continuously deploy to Edge compute infrastructure, be it a Humvee, a satellite, a 5G base station to enable real-time processing of large amounts of data in a decentralized efficient manner. But Palantir Technologies(NYSE:PLTR) has defied that way of thinking as of late. PLTR stock has been a major disappointment for investors so far this year.\nSince hitting an all-time high of $45 in late January, shares of the big data analytics company are down roughly 57%. In the past month alone, PLTR stock is down nearly 28%.\nThat includes the post-earnings sell-off following the company’s third-quarter report, despite Palantir beating revenue expectations and delivering a strong outlook for the current quarter.\nCan PLTR stock turn its fortunes around in 2022? Let’s take a closer look.\nPalantir at a Glance\nFounded by Peter Thiel in 2003, Palantir Technologies went public via a direct listing in September 2020 and currently has a market cap of $38.8 billion. The company is headquartered in Denver and actually gets its name from J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings series.“Palantiri” were magical and indestructible crystal balls that were used to communicate and see other parts of that fabled world.\nWhat Palantir does isn’t magical, but it is pretty cool. Palantir’s software allows government and private sector businesses to analyze and manage massive amounts of data, detecting meaningful patterns and connections. Its data sets are considered to be highly secure compared to its peers, which is why the company is sometimes considered a cybersecurity play.\nSome of Palantir’s first clients were U.S. intelligence agencies and the Pentagon. Over the past few years, the company has been growing its client base to include private firms, other federal agencies, and some state and local governments. For example, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services uses Palantir software to track vaccine distribution.\nPalantir Delivers a Strong Q3 Earnings Report\nThe company’s third-quarter earnings report should have been a positive for PLTR stock. Palantir posted $392 million in revenue, while analysts had expected only $385 million. Earnings of 4 cents per share met expectations.\nRevenue was up 36% from the same quarter a year ago. However, some investors may have been disappointed as the previous two quarters saw 49% year-over-year growth.\nFor the fourth quarter, management expects revenue to increase 30% to $418 million, which was ahead of the consensus estimate of $402 million. Palantir projects full-year revenue of $1.53 billion, which would be a year-over-year increase of 40%. Through 2025, management believes it can grow revenue at least 30% annually.\nThe company used its earnings call to promote its new platform, Apollo, which it described as a new continuous delivery system that brings software-as-a-service (SaaS) management to its platforms. COO Shyam Sankar stated:\n\n Once again, we are building five years ahead of the market, software shamans building technology that will meet its moment. These pipelines, they’ll be versioned, upgrade, managed, and orchestrated by Apollo.\n\nDespite the revenue beat and the promotion of the Apollo platform, PLTR stock fell by more than 9% immediately after the earnings report. And it has continued lower ever since. Some of that slide can be attributed to the market’s drag on tech stocks. But investors also appear concerned that Palantir is seeing slower growth.\nKeep an Eye on Recent Announcements\nWhile growth is slowing, investors should be cheered by a series of announcements that came out recently. These include:\n\nPalantir and Merck KGaA announced a partnership to address the global semiconductor shortage. The companies are developing an AI-infused platform that will help firms navigate the supply chain and reduce time to market.\nPalantir and Babylon Holdings(NYSE:BBLN) announced“substantial progress”on their work to use data to improve clinical care for Babylon’s healthcare clients.\nPalantir won a$43 million federal government contract with the Space Command’s Cross-Mission Ground & Communications Enterprise.\nPalantir and Kinder Morgan(NYSE:KMI) announced a multi-year deal in which Kinder Morgan will use Palantir’s platform to support its infrastructure and improve data analysis, grid integrity and pricing.\n\nAnd those are just the announcements from the past week or so. I expect similar headlines to continue to roll in.\nThe Bottom Line on PLTR Stock\nPLTR stock made a huge run higher into early January but has been struggling ever since. However, if you’re looking for a long-term cybersecurity and AI play, this is a solid pick. You’ll just have to be patient.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1270,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":845106385,"gmtCreate":1636295884078,"gmtModify":1636295884339,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"title":"To the moon","htmlText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ Up Up Up. Morgan and BofA Securities are the lead underwriters for the offering.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":49,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":813021402,"gmtCreate":1630115288106,"gmtModify":1704956157033,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"noted","listText":"noted","text":"noted","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/813021402","repostId":"2162907389","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":111,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":819024149,"gmtCreate":1630023551681,"gmtModify":1704954686891,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/819024149","repostId":"2162018731","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":134,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":837965237,"gmtCreate":1629853125529,"gmtModify":1631889759141,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/837965237","repostId":"1102136193","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1102136193","pubTimestamp":1629851485,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1102136193?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-25 08:31","market":"us","language":"en","title":"German regulator BaFin rejects insider trading suspicions in Daimler shares","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1102136193","media":"Reuters","summary":"(Reuters) -Germany’s markets watchdog BaFin said on Tuesday it found no evidence to pursue an inside","content":"
(Reuters) -Germany’s markets watchdog BaFin said on Tuesday it found no evidence to pursue an insider trading investigation in the shares of carmaker Daimler, including the purchase of a stake in the UK’s Aston Martin by Mercedes’ Formula One boss.
\n
BaFin looked into trading at Germany’s Daimler and passed information to counterparts at the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regarding trading in Aston Martin shares, with the FCA also finding no evidence to pursue a probe, the Financial Times newspaper reported earlier.
\n
“I can confirm that BaFin looked into the transaction with regard to possible suspicions of insider trading (in Daimler securities), but did not find any clues,” the BaFin spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
\n
Daimler said it had no comment. According to the latest FactSet data, the energy sector's Q2 2021 revenue growth rate of 24.9% came in way higher than Wall Street's estimate of 19.4% while the sector reported earnings of $15.9 billion compared to a loss of -$10.6 billion in Q2 2020 marked the biggest Y/Y improvement of any of the S&P 500's 11 market sectors.
\n
Interestingly, the Big Oil duo of ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) and Chevron Corp. That’s almost double the 23% return for the real estate sector, which is the second-best sector. The S&P 500 is up nearly 12% this year.\nEnergy’s big start to the year means that even if the sector goes nowhere for the rest of 2021, it will still be the best year since 1990 by nearly 10%, according to Bay Crest Partners chief market technician Jonathan Krinsky.\nThe surge in energy stocks comes on the back of a recovery in oil prices, and as investors return to areas of the market that were left out of 2020′s rebound from the pandemic lows. The sector was also starting from a low base. In 2020, the group fell 37.3% for its worst performance since inception in 1989.\nKrinsky is among those saying the upside move is overdone, and his call is to sell crude oil and energy stocks broadly. From a technical standpoint, he noted that the $420 to $450 level acted as support — a floor — for the group during the last decade. But then during the Covid sell-off, the sector plunged below that key level — breaking below $200 — as the pandemic ground economies around the world to a halt.\n\nThe S&P Energy Sector has since recovered and traded as high as $420 on Thursday, inching closer to their prior support level, which now acts as resistance, or where an uptrend could be expected to reverse.\n“Oftentimes when you break a very important support like that, once you come back and test it as resistance, it’s difficult to exceed that — at least on the first try,” Krinsky noted.\nGauging performance from Jan. 1 might seem arbitrary, but he added that the sector’s outperformance is notable from virtually any date. Over the last eight months, the group has returned over 90%, which Krinsky says is more than two times the prior largest such gain over the last three decades.\n“Even on a rolling basis this is somewhat unprecedented,” he said. His bearish call on the sector also stems from other commodities breaking down, including lumber and copper. The latter is now breaking its uptrend, and Krinsky noted that copper was a leading indicator for the 2020 low, hitting a bottom one month ahead of West Texas Intermediate Crude futures.\nTOP-PERFORMING S&P 500 ENERGY STOCKS THIS YEAR\n\n\n\nTICKER\nCOMPANY\nPRICE\n%CHANGE\nYIELD\nPREVIOUS CLOSE\n\n\n\n\nMRO\nMarathon Oil Corp\n12.83\n-0.4655\n12.83\n12.89\n\n\nFANG\nDiamondback Energy Inc\n86.23\n-0.7596\n86.23\n86.89\n\n\nDVN\nDevon Energy Corp\n27.22\n-1.3411\n27.22\n27.59\n\n\nEOG\nEOG Resources Inc\n80.795\n-0.7798\n80.795\n81.43\n\n\n\nWithin the sector,Marathon Oilhas gained nearly 93% this year, making it the top-performing energy stock in the S&P 500.\nDiamondback Energyrose about 80% year to date, andDevon Energyclimbed more than 70%.OccidentalandEOG Resourcesare up more than 60%.\nAmid the outperformance the group remains unloved by Wall Street as factors – including environmental, social and corporate governance investing – prompt investors to shy away from the sector. Bank of America recently noted that the entire sector makes up just 2% of the average long-only portfolio, or less than half the allocation toward Facebook, which sits at 4.2%.\nEnergy still comprises a tiny portion of the S&P 500, but as the sector’s weighting grows, fund managers who shun the space could risk returns.\nMRB Partners on Thursday reiterated its overweight rating on the group, saying the recovery in demand for petroleum products, coupled with ongoing supply constraints, should push oil prices higher, leading to further returns for energy stocks.\n“Strengthening cash flows, leaner cost structures, and better capital discipline position the industry to moderately increase capital returns to shareholders,” strategists led by Salvatore Ruscitti wrote in a note to clients. “Relative performance will benefit from the reflationary backdrop and our expectations for a softer U.S. dollar.”\nWhen it comes to specific stocks, Gilman Hill Asset Management CEO Jenny Harrington owns names includingChevron,OneokandKinder Morgan. She noted on Thursday’s“Halftime Report”that it’s important to look at the whole picture. While oil is at its highest level in nearly two and a half years, it’s trading at about half the level it was just a few years ago. On the flip side, it’s well above where it traded in June of 2020 as the pandemic took hold.\n“They’re all trading at a fraction of the market multiple,” Harrington said of the energy stocks she owns. “They all have hefty dividend yields,” she added, arguing that strong earnings growth means “there’s a lot of room to go here.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":81,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":165814717,"gmtCreate":1624115542539,"gmtModify":1634010571065,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":2,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":15,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/165814717","repostId":"1189565772","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":17,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":690988267,"gmtCreate":1639621686901,"gmtModify":1639621710618,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/690988267","repostId":"2191933699","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":844,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":811999315,"gmtCreate":1630282126837,"gmtModify":1704957682769,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"alright","listText":"alright","text":"alright","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/811999315","repostId":"2163776380","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":100,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":605385459,"gmtCreate":1639114919677,"gmtModify":1639114919863,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"kk","listText":"kk","text":"kk","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/605385459","repostId":"1185791394","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1270,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":845106385,"gmtCreate":1636295884078,"gmtModify":1636295884339,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"title":"To the moon","htmlText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ Up Up Up. (NIO) is one of China's leading EV players, and has, through an attractive brand and its unique BaaS offering, attracted a lot of interest from consumers and investors. Today, however, the company is still way smaller than Tesla (TSLA), which is currently leading the global EV market. NIO is focused on its home market right now, which was true when Tesla was a smaller company as well, but NIO will try to grab market share in overseas markets as well. Shares are pricing in a lot of growth already, but if NIO can replicate Tesla's success, that could be more than justified.
\n
NIO And TSLA Stock Prices
\n
Both companies have benefitted from growing interest in EVs during 2020, a trend that saw share prices of most EV pureplays rise rapidly. The combination of growing market share for EVs, accommodating policies such as subsidies for EV purchases, and massive monetary stimulus let shares of NIO and TSLA rise rapidly. NIO is up 245% over the last year, while TSLA is up 101% over the same time. Both companies are currently trading below their all-time highs, however, which were hit in early 2021 before market sentiment for EV pureplays cooled to some degree.
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Taking a quick look at analyst price targets, we see that Tesla is trading almost perfectly in line with the consensus, whereas NIO trades about 30% below the analyst target. If the analyst community is right, then NIO is a substantially better investment right here, as Tesla is not expected to see its shares rise meaningfully over the next year, whereas NIO has significant upside to the analyst price target.
\n
Is NIO Similar To Tesla?
\n
The answer to that question depends on what you focus on. There are similarities between the two companies, but there are also differences. One could thus say that, in some ways, the two are similar, but in others, they are not. Let's look at a couple of things:
\n
Business Model
\n
Both companies are focused on the EV space, although Tesla has, over the years, been building out a couple of other businesses as well, such as energy storage. Most of Tesla's revenues are generated through selling electric vehicles, which is also how NIO operates. Both companies are focused on the premium segment of EVs, selling higher-priced vehicles that compete with brands such as BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus. Both companies offer a small range of different vehicles, in Tesla's case those are the well-known S, X, 3, and Y, whereas NIO offers a sedan (ET7), and three SUVs (EC6, ES6, ES8). Despite the fact that NIO is a way smaller company today, the model lineups of the two companies do thus not differ too much.
\n
Both companies offer some type of charging infrastructure to their customers, in Tesla's case, that's the Supercharger network, where Tesla owners can charge their cars with up to 250kW, depending on what version of Supercharger is installed. NIO is following a different approach, offering a battery-as-a-service solution to its customers. NIO owners can get their battery switched out to a fully-charged battery at NIO's stations, a process that takes a couple of minutes and is thus significantly quicker compared to the regular EV charging offered by Tesla and other EV players. BaaS thus has advantages when it comes to the time it takes for a charge/swap, but it should be noted that Tesla's Superchargers are way more common around the world compared to NIO's battery-swapping stations. Rolling out that feature in additional markets will require large capital expenditures, but NIO's offering is a unique selling point compared to what all other EV players, including Tesla, are offering. It remains to be seen whether that will ultimately pay off, but this could become a major advantage for NIO as competition in the EV space is heating up.
\n
Size, growth, and valuation
\n
The two companies differ significantly in size, both when it comes to revenues and vehicle sales, as well as when it comes to the market value of the two companies. NIO has delivered22,000 vehicles in Q2, up 112% year over year, for an annual pace of around 90,000 vehicles. Tesla, meanwhile, has delivered 201,000 vehicles during Q2, up from 103,000 vehicles delivered during Q2 2020. This is strong growth on a year-over-year basis, although slightly below 100%, and thus below the growth rate that NIO is generating for now.
\n
Tesla delivers around 9x as many vehicles compared to NIO per quarter, when we look at the market capitalizations of the two companies, we see that the ratio is almost exactly the same, as Tesla's market cap of $640 billion is ~9x as high as that of NIO, at $72 billion. At similar growth rates, that would make perfect sense, but it looks like NIO might be the better deal for now, as it trades at a comparable valuation while generating better growth. This will be especially true in the coming quarters, where Tesla's growth is expected to slow down:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Tesla is forecasted to grow its revenue from $49 billion in 2021 to $83 billion in 2023, for an annual growth rate of 30%. NIO, meanwhile, is expected to see its revenue explode upwards from $5.4 billion to $12.8 billion between 2021 and 2023, for an annual growth rate of 54%. NIO is thus expected to grow way faster than Tesla over the next two years, on a relative basis. This shouldn't be a surprise, to be honest, as the law of large numbers dictates that maintaining massive growth rates becomes increasingly hard for a company the bigger it gets, and Tesla seems to have hit that point by now -- adding 50%+ a year to its top line will not be possible forever. This isn't even necessarily Tesla's fault, in fact, many high-quality growth companies have experienced the same. But investors should still consider this important fact -- Tesla's growth in coming years will be less exciting compared to what we have seen in the past, and peers, such as NIO, are growing faster.
\n
The same holds true when we take a longer-term view. Revenue estimates for 2025 rest at$22.6 billionfor NIO, up another 80% from the 2023 estimate, and up 320% from what analysts are forecasting for 2021. Tesla, meanwhile, is forecasted to generate revenues of $122.5 billion in 2025 -- a large number, but up by a comparatively weak 48% from 2023, and up by a total of 150% versus 2021. Between 2021 and 2025, NIO will thus 4x its revenue, while Tesla will 2.5x its revenue in the same time span -- a meaningful difference that should, all else equal, allow for a premium valuation for NIO, in the same way Tesla deserves a premium valuation versus legacy players such as Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY).
\n
Looking at revenue estimates for 2025 relative to how the two companies are valued today, we see that NIO trades at 3.2x 2025 sales, while the 2025 sales multiple for Tesla is 5.2. For a long-term oriented investor, NIO thus seems like the better value today, thanks to the fact that it is trading at a significantly lower sales multiple when we take a look into the future. This does not necessarily mean that NIO is cheap, however, as even a 3.2x 2025 sales multiple is relatively high compared to how legacy auto companies are valued. NIO is looking less expensive than Tesla, however, even if its shares are not cheap on an absolute basis.
\n
Can NIO Be Worth As Much As Tesla?
\n
The answer to that depends on what time frame you are looking at. Today, NIO is significantly smaller than Tesla and thus rightfully trades at a way smaller market cap. It should also be noted that there is no guarantee that Tesla's shares are a great example of how an EV company should be valued -- it is, at least, possible that its shares are significantly overpriced today, I personally believe that as well (Note that some will argue that shares are underpriced, which is also among the possibilities, although I do not hold that belief personally).
\n
When we do, for a moment, assume that Tesla is correctly valued today and that EV companies do deserve a market cap in the $600 billion range when they sell about 800,000 vehicles a year, then NIO could eventually hit that as well, although not in the near term. NIO will sell about 90,000 vehicles this year, and that amount should grow to about 400,000 in 2025. If NIO were to grow its sales by 15% a year beyond that point, it could sell around 800,000 cars in 2030, or 9 years from now. If one wants to assume faster growth, the 800,000 vehicles a year line could also be crossed before 2030, e.g. in 2028 or 2029. If we do go with 2030 for now, then NIO could, at a similar deliveries-to-market capitalization ratio to Tesla, be valued at $600+ billion in 2030. In other words, NIO could be worth as much as Tesla (today) in nine years, when we assume that current growth projections are realistic and that a Tesla-like valuation is appropriate. Those are two major ifs, of course, and especially the second point is far from certain, I believe. I personally would not be too surprised to see Tesla's valuation compress, and thus NIO could trade well below the $600 billion market cap level in 2030, even if it continues to grow meaningfully. It is also possible that NIO's growth disappoints and that current projections are too bullish, although I think that NIO is well-positioned for growth thanks to its unique BaaS model and its strong brand that is especially well-recognized in its home market.
\n
It should also be noted that Tesla's market cap in 2030 could be very different from $600 billion, thus even in case NIO hits that level, it is not at all guaranteed that the two companies will have a similar market cap. Tesla might be valued at a way higher valuation by then, e.g. if the ARK model is right (something I personally think is unlikely). To answer the above question, one could thus say that NIO might be worth hundreds of billions of dollars, like Tesla, in 8-10 years, but that is not at all guaranteed. And even if that were to happen, Tesla might be worth significantly more by then.
\n
Is NIO A Good Stock To Buy Or Sell Now?
\n
When considering NIO as an investment, it doesn't really matter all that much whether it will become as large or highly valued as Tesla eventually. Instead, investors should ask themselves what total returns they can expect over the next couple of years, and whether those expected returns are high enough relative to the risks in NIO's business model. Regarding those risks, one should mention the fact that the company isn't profitable yet, which means that NIO is dependent on cash on its balance sheet for growth investments. On top of that, competition in the EV space is growing, and market share battles could pressure margins in coming years, although NIO seems relatively well-positioned thanks to its battery-swapping, which is, I believe, a strong USP. Last but not least, the company's dependence on its home market China is a potential risk that should be kept in mind, although it should also be noted that, for now, it seems like the Chinese government is very accommodating to Chinese EV companies.
\n
One could argue that valuations across the whole EV industry are too high, relative to how legacy auto companies are valued. Even those legacy players with attractive EV offerings such as Volkswagen or Ford trade at huge discounts compared to EV pureplays. But if one wants to invest in an EV pureplay, NIO doesn't seem like a bad choice. The company combines a strong brand, a unique BaaS offering, high growth rates, and shares trade at a discount compared to how the EV king Tesla is valued. At a little above 3x 2025 revenue, NIO does not seem overly expensive relative to other EV pureplays, although this still represents a premium versus legacy players, of course. If NIO manages to execute well and continues to roll out new models that are well-received by consumers, its shares could have significant upside potential in the long run. If EV stocks ever become an out-of-favor investment, NIO stock also could have considerable downside, however, this thus is not a low-risk pick. Depending on your risk tolerance, NIO could still be of value if you want a high-growth EV pureplay.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Will NIO Stock Follow Tesla's Footsteps? The combination of growing market share for EVs, accommodating policies such as subsidies for EV purchases, and massive monetary stimulus let shares of NIO and TSLA rise rapidly. NIO is up 245% over the last year, while TSLA is up 101% over the same time. Both companies are currently trading below their all-time highs, however, which were hit in early 2021 before market sentiment for EV pureplays cooled to some degree.\nData by YCharts\nTaking a quick look at analyst price targets, we see that Tesla is trading almost perfectly in line with the consensus, whereas NIO trades about 30% below the analyst target. If the analyst community is right, then NIO is a substantially better investment right here, as Tesla is not expected to see its shares rise meaningfully over the next year, whereas NIO has significant upside to the analyst price target.\nIs NIO Similar To Tesla?\nThe answer to that question depends on what you focus on. There are similarities between the two companies, but there are also differences. One could thus say that, in some ways, the two are similar, but in others, they are not. Let's look at a couple of things:\nBusiness Model\nBoth companies are focused on the EV space, although Tesla has, over the years, been building out a couple of other businesses as well, such as energy storage. Despite the fact that NIO is a way smaller company today, the model lineups of the two companies do thus not differ too much.\nBoth companies offer some type of charging infrastructure to their customers, in Tesla's case, that's the Supercharger network, where Tesla owners can charge their cars with up to 250kW, depending on what version of Supercharger is installed. It remains to be seen whether that will ultimately pay off, but this could become a major advantage for NIO as competition in the EV space is heating up.\nSize, growth, and valuation\nThe two companies differ significantly in size, both when it comes to revenues and vehicle sales, as well as when it comes to the market value of the two companies. NIO has delivered22,000 vehicles in Q2, up 112% year over year, for an annual pace of around 90,000 vehicles. Tesla, meanwhile, has delivered 201,000 vehicles during Q2, up from 103,000 vehicles delivered during Q2 2020. This is strong growth on a year-over-year basis, although slightly below 100%, and thus below the growth rate that NIO is generating for now.\nTesla delivers around 9x as many vehicles compared to NIO per quarter, when we look at the market capitalizations of the two companies, we see that the ratio is almost exactly the same, as Tesla's market cap of $640 billion is ~9x as high as that of NIO, at $72 billion. At similar growth rates, that would make perfect sense, but it looks like NIO might be the better deal for now, as it trades at a comparable valuation while generating better growth. This will be especially true in the coming quarters, where Tesla's growth is expected to slow down:\nData by YCharts\nTesla is forecasted to grow its revenue from $49 billion in 2021 to $83 billion in 2023, for an annual growth rate of 30%. Between 2021 and 2025, NIO will thus 4x its revenue, while Tesla will 2.5x its revenue in the same time span -- a meaningful difference that should, all else equal, allow for a premium valuation for NIO, in the same way Tesla deserves a premium valuation versus legacy players such as Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY).\nLooking at revenue estimates for 2025 relative to how the two companies are valued today, we see that NIO trades at 3.2x 2025 sales, while the 2025 sales multiple for Tesla is 5.2. NIO is looking less expensive than Tesla, however, even if its shares are not cheap on an absolute basis.\nCan NIO Be Worth As Much As Tesla?\nThe answer to that depends on what time frame you are looking at. Today, NIO is significantly smaller than Tesla and thus rightfully trades at a way smaller market cap. It should also be noted that there is no guarantee that Tesla's shares are a great example of how an EV company should be valued -- it is, at least, possible that its shares are significantly overpriced today, I personally believe that as well (Note that some will argue that shares are underpriced, which is also among the possibilities, although I do not hold that belief personally).\nWhen we do, for a moment, assume that Tesla is correctly valued today and that EV companies do deserve a market cap in the $600 billion range when they sell about 800,000 vehicles a year, then NIO could eventually hit that as well, although not in the near term. It is also possible that NIO's growth disappoints and that current projections are too bullish, although I think that NIO is well-positioned for growth thanks to its unique BaaS model and its strong brand that is especially well-recognized in its home market.\nIt should also be noted that Tesla's market cap in 2030 could be very different from $600 billion, thus even in case NIO hits that level, it is not at all guaranteed that the two companies will have a similar market cap. And even if that were to happen, Tesla might be worth significantly more by then.\nIs NIO A Good Stock To Buy Or Sell Now?\nWhen considering NIO as an investment, it doesn't really matter all that much whether it will become as large or highly valued as Tesla eventually. Last but not least, the company's dependence on its home market China is a potential risk that should be kept in mind, although it should also be noted that, for now, it seems like the Chinese government is very accommodating to Chinese EV companies.\nOne could argue that valuations across the whole EV industry are too high, relative to how legacy auto companies are valued. Depending on your risk tolerance, NIO could still be of value if you want a high-growth EV pureplay.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":24,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":155250492,"gmtCreate":1625441741816,"gmtModify":1633940762921,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/155250492","repostId":"1170921585","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1170921585","pubTimestamp":1625441337,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1170921585?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-05 07:28","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"UAE 'unconditionally' supports OPEC+ supply increase, but says no to a bad deal","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1170921585","media":"CNBC","summary":"KEY POINTS\n\nThe United Arab Emirates has pushed back on OPEC+ leaders Saudi Arabia and Russia, claim","content":"
\n
KEY POINTS\n\nThe United Arab Emirates has pushed back on OPEC+ leaders Saudi Arabia and Russia, claiming its \"sovereign right\" to negotiate fairer terms for an oil production increase.\nThe UAE blocked ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; We have the sovereign right to negotiate that.”\nThe comments come after the United Arab Emirates blocked some aspects of an OPEC+ proposal to increase output on Friday, seeking better terms for itself.\n“Let’s increase the production, and talk about the extension and the agreement and the conditions associated with it at a later meeting,” he said, adding that the UAE unconditionally supports a supply increase.\n“We are meeting on Monday, and I think we are all in agreement that we need to do something regarding the increase in production,” Al Mazrouei said. “The issue is putting a condition on that increase, which is the extension of the agreement,” he added.\nStandoff\nThe high-stakes standoff comes as oil prices surge above $75 dollars a barrel for the first time in two years. Failure to reach a deal on Monday could risk the market recovery, and even unravel the fragile OPEC+ alliance if the deadlock is left unresolved.\n“We have plenty of time to meet and discuss the terms of the extension with justification that can involve independent bodies to review it” he said. “I’m still hopeful that by Monday we will segregate the two decisions,” he added.\nThe UAE threatened to leave OPEC late last year, and an exit would almost certainly trigger a repeat of the OPEC+ price war that pushed oil prices to -$40 in April last year.\n“It’s not wise nor a target for anyone to raise prices to a level that the world economy cannot handle,” he said. “We think we need to do it and we need to do it for August” Al Mazrouei added.\nBaseline dispute\nAt the core of the current proposal is a plan to increase production by 2 million barrels per day (mb/d) between August and December in 400,000 barrels per day monthly installments. OPEC+ also plans to extend its production cut agreement from April 2022 to December 2022.\n“Now we think that linking the extension of the agreement for a reference that goes back to 2018, and for a period that starts from 2022, is just not realistic, because this is four years” Al Mazrouei said.\n“That is totally unfair.”\nThe UAE has spent billions investing in its oil production capacity, seeking to ramp up output. With Iran also set to return to the oil market in the coming months, the UAE sees good scope to review the terms.\n“UAE crude oil production in October 2018 was 3.160 mb/d. But it increased to 3.841 mb/d in April 2020. By changing the base, UAE can increase its production drastically & immediately,” tweeted Anas Alhajji, Managing Partner at Energy Outlook Advisors.\n“They do not want OPEC+ agreement to limit their production and potential,” he added.\nIn what could perhaps be another sign of strain in the relationship, Saudi Arabia moved to restrict travel to the UAE late Friday, citing the pandemic.\nAsked about the silence from the White House on the production group’s internal dispute, Mazrouei replied “Happy Fourth of July.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":64,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":186772789,"gmtCreate":1623545142241,"gmtModify":1634032029471,"author":{"id":"3554931312261326","authorId":"3554931312261326","name":"nickname168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a754f36cb5675cfa98f544bc53807415","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3554931312261326","authorIdStr":"3554931312261326"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"i see","listText":"i see","text":"i see","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/186772789","repostId":"1185020128","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1185020128","pubTimestamp":1623537503,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1185020128?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-13 06:38","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Meme Stock Soars 1,000% To Lead These Two Top Small Cap Stock Plays","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1185020128","media":"investors","summary":"GameStop may be the top holding in SPDR S&P 600 Small Cap Value, but that's not the only reason the ","content":"
GameStop may be the top holding in SPDR S&P 600 Small Cap Value, but that's not the only reason the ETF is beating its growth-stock counterpart.
\n
The $4.2 billion value fund tracks the S&P SmallCap 600 Value Index (SLYV), composed of stocks with the strongest value traits based on book value to price ratio, earnings to price ratio, and sales to price ratio.
