(digital gaming, e-commerce and fintech), which have benefited immensely from the pandemic.</li>\n <li>Its future share price movement would depend on the company’s growth and operational expansion, the development of the company’s fintech/digital banking business segment, and potential risks from competitors.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>Investment thesis</b></p>\n<p>It is difficult to determine Sea’s(NYSE:SE)share price movement for the short run (early to mid-2021). Its share price has had a spectacular growth in 2020 (rising by about 400%), primarily because of the pandemic, which has benefited from the surge in demand for all its digital businesses. This accelerated growth is unlikely to be repeated in 2021. However, 2021 will continue to usher in strong growth because of increasing online demand in the region.</p>\n<p>Sea is a promising company and has the potential to become one of the largest companies in ASEAN because of its strong appetite for growth and expansion. It is already three times the size of Singapore Telecommunication corporation and twice that of PTT (Thai Petroleum) by enterprise value.</p>\n<p>Sea’s future share price movement would depend on further increases in revenue growth and new revenue streams. However, it has significant risks and challenges from competition. At the current share price, Sea is 34% over valued (see annex 1) and is trading at 27 times of sales (2.5 times the average of its competitors, see annex 2). However, Sea’s good growth prospects within the next 2 years justify its price.</p>\n<p>Sea’s three core businesses (gaming, e-commerce and financial services) have been growing rapidly (160% year-on-year by revenue). The revenue stream to watch in 2021 is its fintech arm (i.e. SeaMoney), which is currently contributing only one percent to Sea’s overall revenue. It has been awarded a banking licence by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2020 (1 of 2 awardees) and acquired Bank Kesejahteraan Ekonomi (in Indonesia) in January 2021. Its financial services business is well positioned for a prospective growth towards the end of 2021 and into 2022. SeaMoney on its own could potentially add an additional $15 per share to Sea’s overall share price by end of 2021 (based on fundamental discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation with ADYEN’s historical data as a comparator).</p>\n<p><b>Overview</b></p>\n<p>The bulk of Sea’s business is in Southeast Asia. It operates in three key busines segments, through Garena (digital gaming), Shopee (e-commerce), and SeaMoney (digital financial services). Despite its rapid regional expansion, it has not yet generated profit. This situation is normal for businesses such as Sea, which has been focusing on building market position and expansion. Sea benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated its growth due to the surge in demand for its digital businesses.</p>\n<p><b>Valuation of Sea Ltd</b></p>\n<p>Determining a value for Sea is difficult at this point in time as the future potential of SeaMoney has yet to take shape. However, a ten-year DCF projection based on the company’s past performance can be used to determine a minimum intrinsic share price value without the growth contribution of SeaMoney (see figure 1 and table 1). Based on the DCF valuation, a $155.99 share price can be considered a low estimate for Sea. It is one of the largest and fastest growing regions in the world (4.9% per year in the four next years) with a population of 670 million people and a GDP of $4.7 trillion by 2025 (more than that of India). The region’s internet economy has more than tripled over the past four years, reaching $100 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow to $300 billion by 2025 (a 20% CAGR) according to the&nbsp;Google, Temasek and Bain, e-Conomy SEA 2020 annual report. Digital financial services are another promising market for the region as it is expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2025, accounting for half the money transactions conducted in Southeast Asia.</p>\n<p>Sea has multiple revenue streams, and the company has ample opportunities to explore new revenue streams and enhance synergistic advantages. Garena is already profitable and is an exclusive distributor of Tencent Games in Southeast Asia. It has been expanding in game development. This business segment is bank rolling Shopee and SeaMoney. The latter has the potential to contribute to Sea’s future growth. It is currently contributing only 1 percent of Sea’s revenue (see figure 1). They include the following:</p>\n<ol>\n <li><i>Existing competition (high impact):</i>Given the attractiveness of the markets that Sea participates in, there is fierce competition (especially in e-commerce and fintech) from other players such as Lazada, Grab, Gojek, Tokopedia and Bukalapak. This competitive pressure put into question Sea’s future growth and profits.</li>\n <li><i>New competition Gojek/Tokopedia merger (high impact):</i>In January 2021, Gojek and Grab merger talks fell apart. Currently, Gojek and Tokopedia are in the process to merge to form a $40 billion powerhouse and Grab is seeking IPO. The anticipated new entity (Gojek &amp; Tokopedia) will be a formidable competitor to Sea in Indonesia, given Gojek’s and Tokopedia’s extensive business networks in the region.</li>\n <li><i>Financial risk (moderate impact):</i>Sea has been increasing its debt leverage, at US$1.92 billion (September 2020) – an increase of US$470.6 million in a year. However, it also has US$3.55 billion in cash, leading to a US$1.63 billion net cash position. While Sea is losing money, it has generated positive free cash flow of US$96 million (September 2020) and therefore has limited short-term balance sheet risk.</li>\n <li><i>Sustainability (high impact):</i>Sea has not been profitable in the past five years and will not be until 2022. It has been using the profits from Garena (its only profitable business segment) to finance the expansion of its e-commerce and Fintech businesses.</li>\n <li><i>Over-valuation (moderate impact):</i>Sea is currently trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 27 times. This ratio is high as compared with Tencent Holdings at 11 times, Alibaba at 10 times and Meituan at 15 times. Although justifiable, this is a high premium to take on.</li>\n <li><i>Regulations (high impact):</i>Sea is subject to government regulations. Its financial services business is especially susceptible to regulatory changes. This can be further complicated by the number of countries it operates in. However, this is unlikely to be an issue in Singapore, Sea’s home country.</li>\n <li><i>Share dilution (moderate impact):</i>Sea has been constantly diluting its shares to support the financing of its various business expansions (see table 2).</li>\n</ol>\n<p>Table 2: Sea’s shares</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/aab6b2ad5a564bfe638c9a6b93a0f458\" tg-width=\"815\" tg-height=\"396\"></p>\n<p><b>Conclusion</b></p>\n<p>Sea Ltd is a potentially high rewarding long-term investment but has a considerable amount of risk. However, the author believes that the company will overcome most of its challenge and strengthen its position as one of the dominant digital players in Southeast Asia. Investors should consider buying Sea as a long-term investment and with the strategy to buy the share when it dips in price and to slowly increase their position over time.</p>\n<p>Sea is one of the most exciting stories to watch. Key issues to follow closely are the company’s growth, SeaMoney development and rising challenges for competitors. Its share price has had a spectacular growth in 2020 (rising by about 400%), primarily because of the pandemic, which has benefited from the surge in demand for all its digital businesses. This accelerated growth is unlikely to be repeated in 2021. However, 2021 will continue to usher in strong growth because of increasing online demand in the region.\nSea is a promising company and has the potential to become one of the largest companies in ASEAN because of its strong appetite for growth and expansion. It is already three times the size of Singapore Telecommunication corporation and twice that of PTT (Thai Petroleum) by enterprise value.\nSea’s future share price movement would depend on further increases in revenue growth and new revenue streams. However, it has significant risks and challenges from competition. At the current share price, Sea is 34% over valued (see annex 1) and is trading at 27 times of sales (2.5 times the average of its competitors, see annex 2). However, Sea’s good growth prospects within the next 2 years justify its price.\nSea’s three core businesses (gaming, e-commerce and financial services) have been growing rapidly (160% year-on-year by revenue). The revenue stream to watch in 2021 is its fintech arm (i.e. SeaMoney), which is currently contributing only one percent to Sea’s overall revenue. It has been awarded a banking licence by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2020 (1 of 2 awardees) and acquired Bank Kesejahteraan Ekonomi (in Indonesia) in January 2021. Its financial services business is well positioned for a prospective growth towards the end of 2021 and into 2022. SeaMoney on its own could potentially add an additional $15 per share to Sea’s overall share price by end of 2021 (based on fundamental discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation with ADYEN’s historical data as a comparator).\nOverview\nThe bulk of Sea’s business is in Southeast Asia. It operates in three key busines segments, through Garena (digital gaming), Shopee (e-commerce), and SeaMoney (digital financial services). Despite its rapid regional expansion, it has not yet generated profit. This situation is normal for businesses such as Sea, which has been focusing on building market position and expansion. Sea benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated its growth due to the surge in demand for its digital businesses.\nValuation of Sea Ltd\nDetermining a value for Sea is difficult at this point in time as the future potential of SeaMoney has yet to take shape. However, a ten-year DCF projection based on the company’s past performance can be used to determine a minimum intrinsic share price value without the growth contribution of SeaMoney (see figure 1 and table 1). Based on the DCF valuation, a $155.99 share price can be considered a low estimate for Sea. It is one of the largest and fastest growing regions in the world (4.9% per year in the four next years) with a population of 670 million people and a GDP of $4.7 trillion by 2025 (more than that of India). The region’s internet economy has more than tripled over the past four years, reaching $100 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow to $300 billion by 2025 (a 20% CAGR) according to the Google, Temasek and Bain, e-Conomy SEA 2020 annual report. Digital financial services are another promising market for the region as it is expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2025, accounting for half the money transactions conducted in Southeast Asia.\nSea has multiple revenue streams, and the company has ample opportunities to explore new revenue streams and enhance synergistic advantages. Garena is already profitable and is an exclusive distributor of Tencent Games in Southeast Asia. It has been expanding in game development. This business segment is bank rolling Shopee and SeaMoney. The latter has the potential to contribute to Sea’s future growth. It is currently contributing only 1 percent of Sea’s revenue (see figure 1). They include the following:\n\nExisting competition (high impact):Given the attractiveness of the markets that Sea participates in, there is fierce competition (especially in e-commerce and fintech) from other players such as Lazada, Grab, Gojek, Tokopedia and Bukalapak. This competitive pressure put into question Sea’s future growth and profits.\nNew competition Gojek/Tokopedia merger (high impact):In January 2021, Gojek and Grab merger talks fell apart. Currently, Gojek and Tokopedia are in the process to merge to form a $40 billion powerhouse and Grab is seeking IPO. The anticipated new entity (Gojek & Tokopedia) will be a formidable competitor to Sea in Indonesia, given Gojek’s and Tokopedia’s extensive business networks in the region.\nFinancial risk (moderate impact):Sea has been increasing its debt leverage, at US$1.92 billion (September 2020) – an increase of US$470.6 million in a year. However, it also has US$3.55 billion in cash, leading to a US$1.63 billion net cash position. While Sea is losing money, it has generated positive free cash flow of US$96 million (September 2020) and therefore has limited short-term balance sheet risk.\nSustainability (high impact):Sea has not been profitable in the past five years and will not be until 2022. It has been using the profits from Garena (its only profitable business segment) to finance the expansion of its e-commerce and Fintech businesses.\nOver-valuation (moderate impact):Sea is currently trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 27 times. This ratio is high as compared with Tencent Holdings at 11 times, Alibaba at 10 times and Meituan at 15 times. Although justifiable, this is a high premium to take on.\nRegulations (high impact):Sea is subject to government regulations. Its financial services business is especially susceptible to regulatory changes. This can be further complicated by the number of countries it operates in. However, this is unlikely to be an issue in Singapore, Sea’s home country.\nShare dilution (moderate impact):Sea has been constantly diluting its shares to support the financing of its various business expansions (see table 2).\n\nTable 2: Sea’s shares\n\nConclusion\nSea Ltd is a potentially high rewarding long-term investment but has a considerable amount of risk. However, the author believes that the company will overcome most of its challenge and strengthen its position as one of the dominant digital players in Southeast Asia. This strategic decision will increase the burn rate of cash flow.</i></p>\n<p>Besides, we expect the R&amp;D fee to increase massively as the ET7 research and development proceed. The management claims the decrease in R&amp;D expenditure YoY was due to the less cost of new car development. Given that NIO is in the process of developing the ET7 based on the new technology 2.0 platform, it is natural to consider that the R&amp;D fee will rebound significantly in 2021.</p>\n<p>The SG&amp;A fee will be much higher than the prior year with sales and charging network expansions. According to the earnings call, NIO now has 23 NIO Houses and 303 NIO Spaces, covering 121 cities in China. It also plans to open 20 new NIO Houses and 120 new NIO Spaces in 2021. More importantly, the management’s attitude is clear that they will build a store in cities where BBA 4S stores are located. Other than the sales network, NIO prepares to enlarge charging infrastructures to ramp up to at least 500 power swap stations in total. The assumption is that only 20% of car sales in China will be EV by that time. Besides, ICE car maker Toyota(NYSE:TM)is trading at a 1.75x 2021 PS ratio which is a good reference for a mature car maker's growth prospect.</p>\n<p>For EVs in 2030, NIO’s multiples will decline to around 2.<i>By that time, a reasonable assumption is that China’s EV penetration rate will not pass 50%, undoubtedly meaning there are still huge sales opportunities.So 2 is not a justifiable multiple for NIO</i>. That being said, the consideration is whether NIO can reach the sales targets. It’s hard to argue this, but what we know for now is that the company is the leader in this sector. were up 5.28% in early afternoon trade, after surging as much as 8.49% earlier in the day. Airline-related shares such as SATS, a subsidiary company that provides in-flight catering, was up 3.43% while SIA Engineering advanced 5.12%.\nAustralian flag carrier Qantas gained 3.4%.\nAn air travel bubble would allow residents of Singapore and Australia to travel between both countries without the need for quarantine. But the fact it was able to generate $162 million in revenue even though only 67% of its theaters were open and operating at just 20% to 40% capacity indicates there is still substantial demand for the big-screen experience.</p>\n<p>AMC said some 8 million people visited its cinemas globally (the international situation was even worse, with only 30% of its theaters open), which is just a fraction of pre-pandemic levels but not bad when fighting for survival.</p>\n<p>And on that front, AMC should indeed survive, and could even thrive as a sense of normalcy returns to our everyday activities. A few states are allowing businesses to reopen without restrictions now. Other states are moving more slowly but could end up following suit as the pandemic comes under control.</p>\n<p>Setting the stage</p>\n<p>Movies will be returning to the theaters this year, too. Studios that delayed releasing their films until theaters were mostly up and running again will now do so over the coming months, including a number of much-anticipated potential blockbusters.</p>\n<p>CEO Adam Aron said, \"We look forward to returning to an environment of unfettered movie theater access for our guests, and we are eager to showcase the sizable and widely anticipated slate of new films that our studio partners have to offer.\"</p>\n<p>Long-delayed titles including superhero flicks such as&nbsp;<i>Spider-Man: No Way Home</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i>Black Widow</i>&nbsp;are due to appear later this year, as are sci-fi films like<i>Dune</i>and action movies such as the new James Bond title&nbsp;<i>No Time to Die</i>.</p>\n<p><b>Split decision</b></p>\n<p>Tempering the enthusiasm for their release, however, is that many films will now also be released either to on-demand streaming services only or will simultaneously appear in theaters and on streaming.</p>\n<p><b>Disney</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:DIS)&nbsp;was originally supposed to release the children's movie&nbsp;<i>Raya and the Last Dragon</i>&nbsp;into theaters last November. It got moved to mid-March and became a day-and-date release to theaters and Disney+ as a premium offering, similar to how the company made<i>Mulan</i>available last year.</p>\n<p>Yet the reception it received was lukewarm at best. While AMC carried the movie,<b>Cinemark</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:CNK), the country's third-largest theater chain,refused to show it&nbsp;(presumably because of the release to Disney+, which undercuts the ability of theaters to generate revenue at a particularly vulnerable moment).</p>\n<p>The film only generated around $8 million from the 2,400 or so theaters it was shown in on its opening weekend (no word on how much Disney generated from the pay-per-view showing), which suggests there could still be hiccups for theaters along the way.</p>\n<p>A financial shipwreck</p>\n<p>Yet as Aron detailed in AMC's earning release, the theater operator has taken sufficient steps financially to shore up its ledger sheet to make it through the rest of the year.</p>\n<p>AMC raised approximately $2.2 billion in new debt and equity capital, secured more than $1 billion in concessions from creditors and landlords, sold over $80 million in assets, and was able to convert $600 million worth of debt into equity. It now has $1 billion in cash on hand.</p>\n<p>That should be sufficient capital to keep its theaters operating until the industry gets back on its feet and a steady stream of movies is once again filling screens, but all that restructuring has left AMC's financial situation in much worse shape.</p>\n<p>Fortunately, the bills won't come due for a few years yet, but the theater chain still needs to prove the new normal for Hollywood is one where it can be profitable. A few states are allowing businesses to reopen without restrictions now. Other states are moving more slowly but could end up following suit as the pandemic comes under control.\nSetting the stage\nMovies will be returning to the theaters this year, too. Studios that delayed releasing their films until theaters were mostly up and running again will now do so over the coming months, including a number of much-anticipated potential blockbusters.\nCEO Adam Aron said, \"We look forward to returning to an environment of unfettered movie theater access for our guests, and we are eager to showcase the sizable and widely anticipated slate of new films that our studio partners have to offer.\"\nLong-delayed titles including superhero flicks such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Black Widow are due to appear later this year, as are sci-fi films likeDuneand action movies such as the new James Bond title No Time to Die.\nSplit decision\nTempering the enthusiasm for their release, however, is that many films will now also be released either to on-demand streaming services only or will simultaneously appear in theaters and on streaming.\nDisney (NYSE:DIS) was originally supposed to release the children's movie Raya and the Last Dragon into theaters last November. It got moved to mid-March and became a day-and-date release to theaters and Disney+ as a premium offering, similar to how the company madeMulanavailable last year.\nYet the reception it received was lukewarm at best. While AMC carried the movie,Cinemark (NYSE:CNK), the country's third-largest theater chain,refused to show it (presumably because of the release to Disney+, which undercuts the ability of theaters to generate revenue at a particularly vulnerable moment).\nThe film only generated around $8 million from the 2,400 or so theaters it was shown in on its opening weekend (no word on how much Disney generated from the pay-per-view showing), which suggests there could still be hiccups for theaters along the way.\nA financial shipwreck\nYet as Aron detailed in AMC's earning release, the theater operator has taken sufficient steps financially to shore up its ledger sheet to make it through the rest of the year.\nAMC raised approximately $2.2 billion in new debt and equity capital, secured more than $1 billion in concessions from creditors and landlords, sold over $80 million in assets, and was able to convert $600 million worth of debt into equity. It now has $1 billion in cash on hand.\nThat should be sufficient capital to keep its theaters operating until the industry gets back on its feet and a steady stream of movies is once again filling screens, but all that restructuring has left AMC's financial situation in much worse shape.\nFortunately, the bills won't come due for a few years yet, but the theater chain still needs to prove the new normal for Hollywood is one where it can be profitable. Through its wholly-owned subsidiary BlackBerry Government Solutions headquartered in Washington D.C., BlackBerry provides an end-to-end software stack that protects the data of nearly every federal department. More than&nbsp;70% of all federal employees use devices that are protected by BlackBerry’s crisis communication solution.</p>\n<p>Similarly, Palantir, a company that has seemed shrouded in secrecy until this year, provides software used by the U.S. Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense for counterterrorism projects. Although never officially confirmed by the company, it is widely reported that Palantir’s data-mining software was used to locate Osama Bin Laden.</p>\n<p><b>Why It Matters:</b> Recently more and more corporations, such as&nbsp;automakers, big tech companies&nbsp;and private organizations,&nbsp;have been jumping on board using&nbsp;BlackBerry and Palantir software. It hasn’t participated in the rally that growth stocks have seen for the last several quarters, but it’s not exactly considered a FAANG holding.</p>\n<p>While lacking the hyper growth that some of its smaller peers boast, Nvidia has pretty respectable growth among the investment community.</p>\n<p>In essence, it sits somewhere between FAANG and high-growth stocks. Yet, it seems to be punished on both fronts.</p>\n<p>Nvidia has stagnated like FAANG stocks have over the past few quarters, as Apple, Amazon&nbsp;and others continue to consolidate in a sideways manner.</p>\n<p>Now it’s selling off with high-growth stocks. At its recent low, Nvidia stock was down almost 25%.</p>\n<p>It’s worth mentioning that those losses outpaced Advanced Micro Devices&nbsp;as well, which dipped 21.6% at its low.</p>\n<p>With shares bouncing now, has Nvidia bottomed?</p>\n<p><b>Trading Nvidia</b></p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4a77cb6d210dcab8ae58e739e9223be2\" tg-width=\"1070\" tg-height=\"736\"><span>Daily chart of Nvidia stock.</span></p>\n<p>Late last week, Nvidia looked like it was ready to break down, as shares were trading below the September low and the 200-day moving average. Then the stock posted a strong bounce before the close.</p>\n<p>This is a great lesson on applying multiple timeframes to one’s analysis.</p>\n<p>On Monday, shares closed at the lows and aggressively below the 200-day moving average. For what it’s worth, this was also below the preceding session’s low (Friday March 5), as well as the September low.</p>\n<p>By the looks of the daily chart, this stock was toast.</p>\n<p>But look at that 50-<i>week</i>moving average sitting down there. Not that there’s anything particularly special about thismoving average in particular, but it was a signal that Nvidia may not be ready to roll over quite yet.</p>\n<p>It may not have been enough to inspire bulls to buy, but perhaps it was enough to keep them from selling.</p>\n<p>Nvidia has&nbsp;since ricocheted higher, as it now tries to close above its 10-day moving average.</p>\n<p>I want to say Nvidia stock has bottomed at this point. Perhaps growth stocks have one more leg down, but even if that’s the case, I’d like to see this name avoid another new low.</p>\n<p>If it can stay above $500 and the 200-day moving average, look to see how it handles its 50-day and 100-day moving averages near $540.</p>\n<p>The action might remain choppy, but Nvidia is a great company with strong fundamentals.
