It hasn't done so in a straight line, though, as it has pulled back to a small or great degree every few years. All investors need to expect that there will be occasional stock market corrections and crashes -- which can last a few months or a few years. That's why you should never invest in stocks with short-term money.
\n
It's worth keeping some cash on hand for such downturns, as many great stocks will be on offer at discounted prices. Here are three stocks you might consider adding to your portfolio when there's a market pullback.
\n
\n
1. PayPal
\n
PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL) is more than you probably think it is. Yes, it's the online payment platform spun off by eBay in 2015. But it has grown into a fintech giant -- recently sporting a market value near $217 billion -- and now encompasses brands such as Venmo, Xoom, Honey, Paidy, Happy Returns, Hyperwallet, and more.
\n
PayPal recently sported 416 active consumer and merchant accounts, employed 27,700 workers, and processed nearly 37,000 payment transactions per minute -- for a total volume of about $1.2 trillion over a year.
\n
With a recent price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio near 44 and a price-to-sales ratio near 9, the stock doesn't look cheap, though it's more reasonably priced than many popular growth stocks these days. Regardless, a pullback in price will be welcome for investors who see PayPal as having a very promising future.
\n
2. Waste Management
\n
Waste Management (NYSE:WM) has long tempted many investors -- while often seeming too richly valued. Meanwhile, though, over the past 10 years, the stock has surged some 572% (an annualized rate of 21%), assuming dividends were reinvested, and 472% without reinvesting dividends (which is 19%, annualized). Clearly, there's money in garbage.
\n
Waste Management is North America's premier trash collection and recycling business, offering everything from collection, transfer, and disposal services, to recycling and resource recovery. The company also owns and operates multiple landfill gas-to-energy facilities, making lots of lemonade from lemons. One of the great things about the company is its defensiveness. We're not likely to stop needing garbage and recycling services anytime soon, so its future seems assured.
\n
With a recent P/E ratio near 40, Waste Management's stock seems pricey, but a stock market pullback will render its shares more attractive.
\n
3. Roku
\n
Roku (NASDAQ:ROKU) has grown rapidly into a streaming giant, going from being mostly a hardware specialist to now offering lots of content, including original content. As of 2021's third quarter, the company boasted 56 million active accounts (up 23% year over year), 18 billion hours of streaming (up 21%), and $680 million in quarterly net revenue (up 51%). Management noted:
\n
\n While the pandemic has had different impacts on different parts of our business, the secular shift to streaming remains intact. Our Q4 outlook is for strong growth with total net revenue of $893 million at the midpoint (up 37% year-over-year), and total gross profit of $385 million at the midpoint (up 26% year-over-year).\n
\n
In a little over four years, Roku's stock has surged close to 800%, averaging annual growth of close to 70%. The stock is down 57% from its 52-week high as of this writing, but it still recently sported a price-to-sales ratio of 11 and a P/E ratio of 98, suggesting it's not exactly inexpensively priced yet. It hasn't done so in a straight line, though, as it has pulled back to a small or great degree every few years. All investors need to expect that there will be occasional stock market corrections and crashes -- which can last a few months or a few years. That's why you should never invest in stocks with short-term money.\nIt's worth keeping some cash on hand for such downturns, as many great stocks will be on offer at discounted prices. Here are three stocks you might consider adding to your portfolio when there's a market pullback.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. PayPal\nPayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL) is more than you probably think it is. Yes, it's the online payment platform spun off by eBay in 2015. But it has grown into a fintech giant -- recently sporting a market value near $217 billion -- and now encompasses brands such as Venmo, Xoom, Honey, Paidy, Happy Returns, Hyperwallet, and more.\nPayPal recently sported 416 active consumer and merchant accounts, employed 27,700 workers, and processed nearly 37,000 payment transactions per minute -- for a total volume of about $1.2 trillion over a year.\nWith a recent price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio near 44 and a price-to-sales ratio near 9, the stock doesn't look cheap, though it's more reasonably priced than many popular growth stocks these days. Regardless, a pullback in price will be welcome for investors who see PayPal as having a very promising future.\n2. Waste Management\nWaste Management (NYSE:WM) has long tempted many investors -- while often seeming too richly valued. Meanwhile, though, over the past 10 years, the stock has surged some 572% (an annualized rate of 21%), assuming dividends were reinvested, and 472% without reinvesting dividends (which is 19%, annualized). Clearly, there's money in garbage.\nWaste Management is North America's premier trash collection and recycling business, offering everything from collection, transfer, and disposal services, to recycling and resource recovery. The company also owns and operates multiple landfill gas-to-energy facilities, making lots of lemonade from lemons. One of the great things about the company is its defensiveness. We're not likely to stop needing garbage and recycling services anytime soon, so its future seems assured.\nWith a recent P/E ratio near 40, Waste Management's stock seems pricey, but a stock market pullback will render its shares more attractive.\n3. Roku\nRoku (NASDAQ:ROKU) has grown rapidly into a streaming giant, going from being mostly a hardware specialist to now offering lots of content, including original content. As of 2021's third quarter, the company boasted 56 million active accounts (up 23% year over year), 18 billion hours of streaming (up 21%), and $680 million in quarterly net revenue (up 51%). Management noted:\n\n While the pandemic has had different impacts on different parts of our business, the secular shift to streaming remains intact. Our Q4 outlook is for strong growth with total net revenue of $893 million at the midpoint (up 37% year-over-year), and total gross profit of $385 million at the midpoint (up 26% year-over-year).\n\nIn a little over four years, Roku's stock has surged close to 800%, averaging annual growth of close to 70%. The stock is down 57% from its 52-week high as of this writing, but it still recently sported a price-to-sales ratio of 11 and a P/E ratio of 98, suggesting it's not exactly inexpensively priced yet. Still, some see the stock as a screaming buy. If you agree, consider buying some shares now -- or, better still, waiting for a market pullback.\nThese are just a few of many great companies you might consider for your long-term portfolio. If any interest you, dig deeper into them to see if what they offer is what you're looking for.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":915,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":606473749,"gmtCreate":1638924041590,"gmtModify":1638928456330,"author":{"id":"4101443403350680","authorId":"4101443403350680","name":"Irvine","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4101443403350680","authorIdStr":"4101443403350680"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow[USD] ","listText":"Wow[USD] ","text":"Wow[USD]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/606473749","repostId":"1160989369","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1160989369","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1638890853,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1160989369?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-07 23:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Meme stocks jumped in morning trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1160989369","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Meme stocks jumped in morning trading.Vinco Ventures,IronNet,Zomedica,Aterian,Digital World Acquisit","content":"
Meme stocks jumped in morning trading.Vinco Ventures,IronNet,Zomedica,Aterian,Digital World Acquisition,Greenidge Generation,Senseonics,Newegg,AMC and GameStop climbed between 5% and 18%.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Experts believe these 3D environments represent the next step in social media's development and could fundamentally shape how people shop and play games in the future, among other things.
\n
The metaverse is going to require lots of processing power and sophisticated software to create 3D content, especially if it is ever going to reach the capability of simulating real-world environments, as some experts predict. Here's why Nvidia,Unity Software and Roblox are three no-brainer stocks to consider buying today that could benefit from growing interest in the metaverse.
\n
\n
1. Nvidia
\n
Nvidia is the leading supplier of graphics processing units (GPUs) and sells its chips to a range of customers in gaming, data centers, self-driving cars, and graphics artists. The company has the necessary graphics technology to help content creators render 3D environments, but it's now also expanding into software.
\n
Earlier this year, Nvidia unveiled Omniverse -- a software collaboration platform that allows developers to share their digital worlds with each other like sharing a document over the cloud. The company has been working on this platform for several years, and it's built to accurately simulate physical movement in a virtual world and bring together apps and tools to speed up the development of the metaverse.
\n
Omniverse is a lucrative opportunity for Nvidia. It sells for an annual license fee like a typical subscription-as-a-service platform. Management sees this opportunity as worth billions in potential revenue, but the prospects for stretching its profit margin higher through license fees is one reason the stock price has soared 155% so far in 2021.
\n
Nvidia generated $8.2 billion in profit on top of $24 billion in revenue over the last four quarters. But the push into software could push its profits higher relative to revenue, which is why the stock might be worth considering even at its current high stock price.
\n
\n
2. Unity Software
\n
One top software provider that could benefit enormously from the growth of the metaverse is Unity Software. Unity provides software solutions that are used to create, run, and monetize real-time 2D and 3D content across mobile devices, PCs, game consoles, and virtual reality devices. It is widely used in the video game industry, where 71% of the top 1,000 mobile games were made with Unity during the fourth quarter of 2020.
\n
Unity recently announced the acquisition of Weta Digital for $1.625 billion. Weta is the software studio that created many of the special effects used so effectively in blockbuster movies like Lord of the Rings,Wonder Woman, and Avatar, and management plans to offer the basic technology behind that was instrumental in creating those effects in a cloud-based version. This will allow millions of consumers to create content on social media and gaming platforms, which serve as the building blocks of the metaverse.
\n
The addition of Weta Digital is expected to expand the company's long-term growth opportunity by an estimated $10 billion.
\n
Unity has been posting impressive revenue growth since its initial public offering in 2020, with the top line advancing by an average rate of 45% each quarter. The company is still in the early stage of expanding its software offering to non-gaming use cases in other industries. Before the Weta acquisition, management estimated its addressable market at $29 billion, but given Unity's trailing-12-month revenue of slightly over $1 billion, this stock has tremendous long-term upside.
\n
\n
3. Roblox
\n
If you are looking for a pure-play option to invest in the metaverse, Roblox is your best bet. It has 47 million daily active users that come to its platform to play games, but management sees potential for the metaverse to appeal to a broad audience beyond those interested in gaming.
\n
Virtual concerts are already becoming a popular activity on Roblox. In July, Roblox teamed up with Sony Music to bring more recording artists to the platform. In November 2020, over 36 million people watched the virtual concert by Lil Nas X. More events like this, especially as the graphics fidelity on the platform advances, could turn Roblox into the next Facebook, or even its parent Meta Platforms.
\n
The stock jumped to a new high after Roblox's strong third-quarter earnings report. Time spent on the platform reached 11 billion hours for an increase of 28% over the year-ago quarter. Experts believe these 3D environments represent the next step in social media's development and could fundamentally shape how people shop and play games in the future, among other things.\nThe metaverse is going to require lots of processing power and sophisticated software to create 3D content, especially if it is ever going to reach the capability of simulating real-world environments, as some experts predict. Here's why Nvidia,Unity Software and Roblox are three no-brainer stocks to consider buying today that could benefit from growing interest in the metaverse.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Nvidia\nNvidia is the leading supplier of graphics processing units (GPUs) and sells its chips to a range of customers in gaming, data centers, self-driving cars, and graphics artists. The company has the necessary graphics technology to help content creators render 3D environments, but it's now also expanding into software.\nEarlier this year, Nvidia unveiled Omniverse -- a software collaboration platform that allows developers to share their digital worlds with each other like sharing a document over the cloud. The company has been working on this platform for several years, and it's built to accurately simulate physical movement in a virtual world and bring together apps and tools to speed up the development of the metaverse.\nOmniverse is a lucrative opportunity for Nvidia. It sells for an annual license fee like a typical subscription-as-a-service platform. Management sees this opportunity as worth billions in potential revenue, but the prospects for stretching its profit margin higher through license fees is one reason the stock price has soared 155% so far in 2021.\nNvidia generated $8.2 billion in profit on top of $24 billion in revenue over the last four quarters. But the push into software could push its profits higher relative to revenue, which is why the stock might be worth considering even at its current high stock price.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n2. Unity Software\nOne top software provider that could benefit enormously from the growth of the metaverse is Unity Software. Unity provides software solutions that are used to create, run, and monetize real-time 2D and 3D content across mobile devices, PCs, game consoles, and virtual reality devices. It is widely used in the video game industry, where 71% of the top 1,000 mobile games were made with Unity during the fourth quarter of 2020.\nUnity recently announced the acquisition of Weta Digital for $1.625 billion. Weta is the software studio that created many of the special effects used so effectively in blockbuster movies like Lord of the Rings,Wonder Woman, and Avatar, and management plans to offer the basic technology behind that was instrumental in creating those effects in a cloud-based version. This will allow millions of consumers to create content on social media and gaming platforms, which serve as the building blocks of the metaverse.\nThe addition of Weta Digital is expected to expand the company's long-term growth opportunity by an estimated $10 billion.\nUnity has been posting impressive revenue growth since its initial public offering in 2020, with the top line advancing by an average rate of 45% each quarter. The company is still in the early stage of expanding its software offering to non-gaming use cases in other industries. Before the Weta acquisition, management estimated its addressable market at $29 billion, but given Unity's trailing-12-month revenue of slightly over $1 billion, this stock has tremendous long-term upside.\nImage source: Roblox.\n3. Roblox\nIf you are looking for a pure-play option to invest in the metaverse, Roblox is your best bet. It has 47 million daily active users that come to its platform to play games, but management sees potential for the metaverse to appeal to a broad audience beyond those interested in gaming.\nVirtual concerts are already becoming a popular activity on Roblox. In July, Roblox teamed up with Sony Music to bring more recording artists to the platform. In November 2020, over 36 million people watched the virtual concert by Lil Nas X. More events like this, especially as the graphics fidelity on the platform advances, could turn Roblox into the next Facebook, or even its parent Meta Platforms.\nThe stock jumped to a new high after Roblox's strong third-quarter earnings report. Time spent on the platform reached 11 billion hours for an increase of 28% over the year-ago quarter. When time spent goes up, users spend more money on Robux, which is the virtual currency required to purchase upgrades to personal avatars and unlock other experiences on the Roblox platform. For the third quarter, Roblox reported $509 million in revenue, an increase of 102% year over year.\nRoblox is not profitable yet, mainly because management is continuing to spend heavily on developer exchange fees, which are basically the incentive fees paid out to content developers on the platform when they exchange earned Robux for real-world currency. Still, as long as hours spent on the platform continue to increase, this top IPO stock should continue to hit new highs for years to come.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1105,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603468946,"gmtCreate":1638440731601,"gmtModify":1638441146452,"author":{"id":"4101443403350680","authorId":"4101443403350680","name":"Irvine","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4101443403350680","authorIdStr":"4101443403350680"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍 [Grin] ","listText":"👍 [Grin] ","text":"👍 [Grin]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/603468946","repostId":"2188974405","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2188974405","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1638439245,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2188974405?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-02 18:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"5 Stocks To Watch For December 2, 2021","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2188974405","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:\n\tWall Street expects The Kroger Co. Still, as long as hours spent on the platform continue to increase, this top IPO stock should continue to hit new highs for years to come.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1105,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":603468946,"gmtCreate":1638440731601,"gmtModify":1638441146452,"author":{"id":"4101443403350680","authorId":"4101443403350680","name":"Irvine","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4101443403350680","authorIdStr":"4101443403350680"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍 [Grin] ","listText":"👍 [Grin] ","text":"👍 [Grin]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/603468946","repostId":"2188974405","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2188974405","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1638439245,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2188974405?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-02 18:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"5 Stocks To Watch For December 2, 2021","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2188974405","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:\n\tWall Street expects The Kroger Co.
Still, some see the stock as a screaming buy. If you agree, consider buying some shares now -- or, better still, waiting for a market pullback.
\n
These are just a few of many great companies you might consider for your long-term portfolio.
