Valuations are looking more attractive</b></p>\n<p>AAPL is far from being a dirt cheap stock. The price-to-earnings ratio today is still higher than it had been for at least the full decade prior to the start of the pandemic (see chart below). However, with the recent decline in share price but still resilient business fundamentals, valuations are starting to look more compelling.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/75ae50cce66d14520a3db0ce721b79a3\" tg-width=\"827\" tg-height=\"389\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Figure 2: AAPL's historical price-to-earnings ratio.</span></p>\n<p>The last read on the graph above shows a P/E of 29.0 times as of November 30. As of last check, on December 20, the fiscal 2022 multiple had dropped to 27.5 times. These are roughly the same levels of June 2020, after which Apple stock moved 85% higher in a year and a half.</p>\n<p><b>#2. The deeper the hole, the higher the gains</b></p>\n<p>“Buy low, sell high”. The mantra may seem overly simplistic, but the strategy has worked wonders in the case of AAPL.</p>\n<p>We have often mentioned here, on the Apple Maven channel, that shares of the Cupertino company do best when bought after a selloff. Historically, the one-year gains have been 22% when the stock is bought near a peak, but nearly 40% when bought after a 15% drawdown.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9439be7d48cbf04254a822d9d57576f3\" tg-width=\"601\" tg-height=\"361\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Figure 3: Average one-year return on AAPL, by strategy.</span></p>\n<p>Could this time be different for dip buyers? I think not. To be clear, I do not believe that every stock is worth owning on weakness, as “40% of all stocks have suffered a permanent 70%-plus decline from their peak value”.</p>\n<p>But in the case of Apple, it is highly likely that share price will eventually head higher again, shaking off short-term bearishness and chasing the strong business fundamentals. Having the patience to wait for the next rally is crucial.</p>\n<p><b>#3. Don’t underestimate volatility</b></p>\n<p>All the above sounds bullish at first glance, and an incentive to buy Apple at the current share price of around $168. But if doing so, I urge traders and investors to pay attention to volatility.</p>\n<p>The emotional and psychological aspects of investing can be as important as the quantitative considerations, in my view. Milton is battling those charges in court after having lost a bid to dismiss or move the case.</p>\n<p>Nikola, which did not admit or deny the SEC's findings, has agreed to cooperate with ongoing litigation and investigation, the SEC said. The firm previously disclosed expectations of the hefty penalty in November.</p>\n<p>Nikola \"is responsible both for Milton’s allegedly misleading statements and for other alleged deceptions, all of which falsely portrayed the true state of the company's business and technology,\" Gurbir Grewal, the SEC’s enforcement director, said in a statement.</p>\n<p>Nikola went public via a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) in June 2020, a process the SEC has criticized for requiring less initial vetting than the traditional initial public offering process.</p>\n<p>This month, the SEC's chair said the agency was considering toughening rules around how underwriters, boards of directors and sponsors of SPACs structure fees, issue projections and disclose conflicts.</p>\n<p>The plans are part of the SEC's broader crackdown on the sector this year. Now the company makes money in its dominance in logistics and payment markets across 16 countries in Latin America.</p>\n<p>The company is seeing broad adoption from its newer services, and some of its new services are even growing faster than its primary segment -- its e-commerce business. Its logistics arm -- Mercado Envios -- shipped over 247 million items in Q3, and 86% of the company's e-commerce shipments were shipped with Envios. 37% of all fulfillment in MercadoLibre's areas of operation go through Envios, which flexes its broad adoption across the region.</p>\n<p>Mercado Pago -- its payments platform -- has 31.6 million unique active users and nearly $21 billion in total payment volume. This grew 44% from Q3 2020, and its payment transactions almost reached 700 million, growing 67% year over year.</p>\n<p>All of this is in addition to the company's core business: MercadoLibre. Its e-commerce segment brought in over $1.2 billion in revenue after the company grew its gross merchandise volume 24% year over year to $7.3 billion. The company also sold 260 million items during the quarter, which grew 26% from Q3 2020.</p>\n<p>MercadoLibre's market opportunity is large, and that is only amplified with its new business segments. The company has over 79 million users on its platform, but there are over 646 million citizens in its reach. Latin America is growing at one of the fastest rates in the world, so MercadoLibre's penetration is in its early days. Even this 79 million count doesn't factor in the fact that consumers might use its e-commerce platform but not Mercado Pago, meaning MercadoLibre has room to grow its relationships with its existing customers and its customer base.</p>\n<p>The company does face competition in some parts of its business, like its e-commerce segment where it faces <b>Sea Limited</b> in several markets. However, MercadoLibre is not fully reliant on its e-commerce brand and Sea Limited is only getting started in Latin American markets outside of Brazil, so it is not a huge threat to the whole business. The company's fast-growing business segments show that the company has the capabilities to succeed but has yet to fully grow. As of last check, on December 20, the fiscal 2022 multiple had dropped to 27.5 times. These are roughly the same levels of June 2020, after which Apple stock moved 85% higher in a year and a half.</p>\n<p><b>#2. The deeper the hole, the higher the gains</b></p>\n<p>“Buy low, sell high”. The mantra may seem overly simplistic, but the strategy has worked wonders in the case of AAPL.</p>\n<p>We have often mentioned here, on the Apple Maven channel, that shares of the Cupertino company do best when bought after a selloff. I think not. To be clear, I do not believe that every stock is worth owning on weakness, as “40% of all stocks have suffered a permanent 70%-plus decline from their peak value”.</p>\n<p>But in the case of Apple, it is highly likely that share price will eventually head higher again, shaking off short-term bearishness and chasing the strong business fundamentals. Having the patience to wait for the next rally is crucial.</p>\n<p><b>#3. Don’t underestimate volatility</b></p>\n<p>All the above sounds bullish at first glance, and an incentive to buy Apple at the current share price of around $168. But if doing so, I urge traders and investors to pay attention to volatility.</p>\n<p>The emotional and psychological aspects of investing can be as important as the quantitative considerations, in my view.
