to enter the U.S. Although shares have since reversed course, NIO stock slid nearly 2% today. It is also a top-trending stock on Yahoo Financeand social media today.
\n
Since U.S. EV sales are growing rapidly and Nio is seen by some as China’s version of Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA), Nio’s move into the U.S. could greatly boost its financial results down the road. Such a development, in turn, is likely to meaningfully lift NIO stock.
\n
Job Ads Lift NIO Stock
\n
Today’s buzz was sparked by advertisements for U.S.-based positions that Nio recently posted on LinkedIn. Specifically, the firm has posted ads for 46 positions in America. Many of the jobs focus on managing technical operations, including software development and autonomous driving.
\n
Among the U.S.-based positions that Niois currently seeking are Head of Architecture & Design, Head of Power Strategy, and Audio Systems Architect. Most of the positions are based in San Jose, California.
\n
A number of the advertisements went live a month ago, while others have been posted in recent days.
\n
But why do investors care? Several months ago, investors determined that Nio was preparing to enter Norway based on job ads from LinkedIn.
\n
Therefore, it’s reasonable to believe that, with the EV manufacturer posting ads for jobs in the U.S., it may be preparing to start selling its automobiles in America.
\n
Progress in Norway and China
\n
At the same time, Nio is making progress in its existing markets, which is likely to intrigue investors. Nio launched its ES8 sedan in Norway on Sept. 30. It’s planning to debut another electric sedan, the ET7, in the country in 2022. After Norway, Nio is expected to “gradually” enter additional markets in Europe.
\n
In China, Nio’s sales have been growing rapidly. For example, in November, it announced that its deliveries had soared 105.6% year over year to 10,878 EVs. In the first 11 months of the year, its deliveries jumped 120.4% YOY to 80,940 EVs.
\n
The Bottom Line
\n
Today’s news comes amid high interest by investors in both EV stocks and Chinese stocks. EV stocks have been an area of focus as sales rapidly ramp around the world and as many governments look to incentivize EV sales in order to reduce carbon emissions.
\n
Meanwhile, many investors have closely followed U.S.-listed Chinese stocks. It seems these two factors are also contributing to the interest in Nio shares today.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
NIO Stock Alert: What Is Going on With Nio Today?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nNIO Stock Alert: What Is Going on With Nio Today?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-28 10:03 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio(NYSE:NIO) is attracting a great deal of attention today, amid speculation that the automaker could be preparing to enter the U.S. Although shares have since reversed...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NIO":"蔚来"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/12/nio-stock-alert-what-is-going-on-with-nio-today/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1199133469","content_text":"Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio(NYSE:NIO) is attracting a great deal of attention today, amid speculation that the automaker could be preparing to enter the U.S. Although shares have since reversed course, NIO stock slid nearly 2% today. But all have struggled recently -- as has Tesla (TSLA) itself.
\n
Lucid, which started trading on the Nasdaq in July after a SPAC deal, had its share of good news: Its first car, the Lucid Air, won MotorTrend Car of the Year honors and was certified as having a range of 520 miles on a single charge, the longest of any EV. But company has also disclosed it faces subpoenas from the Securities and Exchange Commission about some of its claims and the SPAC deal, and shares are down from a November 16 peak.
\n
Electric truck maker Rivian had a huge hit with its November IPO, and it also won MotorTrend Truck of the Year honors. Rivian won the race to be the first all-electric pickup to reach market. Shares shot up 29% from the IPO price on its first day of trading, and gained another 71% over the next week.
\n
Rivian was briefly the third-most-valuable automaker on the planet, behind only Tesla and Toyota, despite having yet to report any sales when it went public. When it finally reported its first sales on December 16 they fell short of expectations, and the company cited the same chip and parts shortages dogging the rest of the auto industry. Shares closed Thursday down 44% from that pre-report high, and the sales report proved to be a headwind for Lucid shares as well.
\n
Even Tesla, which earlier this year became only the sixth company to reach a $1 trillion market value, has encountered recent troubles. Shares sank as much as 27% from an all-time high set on November 4 through Tuesday -- before a late-week rally lifted it back above the $1 trillion mark. Still, it is trading 13% below its all-time peak.
\n
Part of the recent problem for EV stocks is the apparent demise of the Biden administration's Build Back Better bill, which had a number of goodies for the EV industry, including enhanced tax credits for buyers that would have allowed automakers to charge more for the vehicles. Build Back Better also includes money for a network of rapid charging stations, which would have answered potential EV buyers' concerns about running out of juice while on the road.
\n
\"That was a gut punch to the EV bulls,\" said Dan Ives, tech analyst for Wedbush Securities. \"For incremental demand in 2022 and beyond, the EVs tax credits is a 15% swing factor in demand.\"
\n
But much of the decline in EV stocks took place before Sen. Joe Manchin said last week he couldn't support the legislation, throwing its future in severe doubt.
\n
Much of the dip is due to continued announcements from established automakers such as Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford and GM about additional investment plans in EVs. The concern is that even if consumer preferences and tougher environment rules are about to create a massive shift from gasoline-powered vehicles to electrics, stand-alone EV companies won't necessarily win the battle.
\n
\"There are going to be losers in the battle for EV market share,\" said Ives. \"Rivian coming out of gate with a delivery short fall, that couldn't have come at a worst time. It's a dark cloud on the pure play EV makers. And investors have a lot less patience with any execution missteps.\"
\n
Tesla has grown to the point where it is profitable and large enough to grow even in the face of increased competition from the established automakers. It projects sales growth of 50% or better this year and beyond. But all have struggled recently -- as has Tesla (TSLA) itself.\nLucid, which started trading on the Nasdaq in July after a SPAC deal, had its share of good news: Its first car, the Lucid Air, won MotorTrend Car of the Year honors and was certified as having a range of 520 miles on a single charge, the longest of any EV. But company has also disclosed it faces subpoenas from the Securities and Exchange Commission about some of its claims and the SPAC deal, and shares are down from a November 16 peak.\nElectric truck maker Rivian had a huge hit with its November IPO, and it also won MotorTrend Truck of the Year honors. Rivian won the race to be the first all-electric pickup to reach market. Shares shot up 29% from the IPO price on its first day of trading, and gained another 71% over the next week.\nRivian was briefly the third-most-valuable automaker on the planet, behind only Tesla and Toyota, despite having yet to report any sales when it went public. When it finally reported its first sales on December 16 they fell short of expectations, and the company cited the same chip and parts shortages dogging the rest of the auto industry. Shares closed Thursday down 44% from that pre-report high, and the sales report proved to be a headwind for Lucid shares as well.\nEven Tesla, which earlier this year became only the sixth company to reach a $1 trillion market value, has encountered recent troubles. Shares sank as much as 27% from an all-time high set on November 4 through Tuesday -- before a late-week rally lifted it back above the $1 trillion mark. Still, it is trading 13% below its all-time peak.\nPart of the recent problem for EV stocks is the apparent demise of the Biden administration's Build Back Better bill, which had a number of goodies for the EV industry, including enhanced tax credits for buyers that would have allowed automakers to charge more for the vehicles. Build Back Better also includes money for a network of rapid charging stations, which would have answered potential EV buyers' concerns about running out of juice while on the road.\n\"That was a gut punch to the EV bulls,\" said Dan Ives, tech analyst for Wedbush Securities. \"For incremental demand in 2022 and beyond, the EVs tax credits is a 15% swing factor in demand.\"\nBut much of the decline in EV stocks took place before Sen. Joe Manchin said last week he couldn't support the legislation, throwing its future in severe doubt.\nMuch of the dip is due to continued announcements from established automakers such as Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford and GM about additional investment plans in EVs. The concern is that even if consumer preferences and tougher environment rules are about to create a massive shift from gasoline-powered vehicles to electrics, stand-alone EV companies won't necessarily win the battle.\n\"There are going to be losers in the battle for EV market share,\" said Ives. \"Rivian coming out of gate with a delivery short fall, that couldn't have come at a worst time. It's a dark cloud on the pure play EV makers. And investors have a lot less patience with any execution missteps.\"\nTesla has grown to the point where it is profitable and large enough to grow even in the face of increased competition from the established automakers. It had just completed its merger with Social Capital Hedosophia III, the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) sponsored by “Silicon Valley venture capitalist” Chamath Palihapitiya.
\n
Today, as I write this, it’s worth approximately $1.94 billion, 74% less than it’s $7 billion valuation.
\n
When I last wrote about Clover Health in early December,I suggested,“only the most speculative investors ought to be anywhere near this healthcare stock.” Since then, CLOV stock has lost another 9% as we approach the end of the year.
\n
While CLOV stock is trading for pennies over $4, here are three similarly-valued stocks to buy for 2022.
\n
Forget CLOV Stock — Buy This Instead
\n
According toFinviz.com,there are64 stocks with a market capitalization between $1.9 billion and $2 billion. My three picks grow sales, generate profits, and possess solid balance sheets. If you’re lucky, at least one will pay a decent dividend.
\n
Ultimately, all three are, in my opinion, safer bets than CLOV in 2022.
\n
Sonic Automotive(NYSE:SAH) is my first pick. It has a current market cap of $2 billion. Its stock is up 25.77% year-to-date (YTD), 258 basis points less than theS&P 500.
\n
Sonic is one of the top automotive retailers in America. Its 119 dealerships are located in 17 states and represent more than 25 brands. In its latest fiscal year, it sold 93,000 new vehicles and 159,000 used vehicles, generating $9.8 billion in revenue. It expects to grow its revenue to $25 billion by 2025.
\n
From a brand breakdown, luxury accounts for 55% of its sales with BMW, Mercedes, and Audi accounting for 71% of its luxury vehicle sales.
\n
In 2021’s third-quarter, its revenues grew by 20.6% to $3.07 billion. Its net income rose 46.9% to $84.7 million and its total debt is$1.97 billion or 56% of its total assets.
\n
The company’s Echo Park used car business should be a big contributor as it pushes to $25 billion in sales by 2025.
\n
The Second Alternative to CLOV Stock
\n
Sally Beauty Holdings(NYSE:SBH) business and the stock bounced back in 2021. That’s great news for long-time shareholders. Up 42.8% YTD, SBH’s five-year return looks a little better as a result. However, it’s down 29% on a cumulative basis over the past 60 months.
\n
Back in May 2017, I compared Sally Beauty and Ulta Beauty Holdings(NASDAQ:ULTA). ULTA was on a bit of a roll, while SBH was stumbling and bumbling. So, wisely, I said ULTA was the better stock to buy. Ulta is up 28.2% since — it’s also had its ups and downs — while SBH is up 3.8% over the same period.
\n
However, I thought Sally Beauty’s restructuring at the time was gaining traction. While Covid-19 didn’t help its business, its most recent results are encouraging.
\n
For all of fiscal 2021, its sales increased10.3% to $3.87 billion with 10.2% same-store sales growth. Its operating earnings grew 44.2% in 2021 to $622.7 million, and it managed to reduce its debt by $420 million in the past year. That puts its long-term debt at $1.38 billion or 48% of its total assets.
\n
On Oct. 1, board member Denise Paulonistook over as chief executive officer (CEO)of the company. She is tasked with growing sales and profits after previous CEO Chris Brinkman thoroughly modernized its beauty business during his six-year tenure.
\n
A Final Possibility
\n
My final alternative is Goldman Sachs BDC(NYSE:GSBD). It was founded in 2012 to make debt and equity investments in middle-market companies — defined as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) earnings of$5 million to $200 million— and merged with Goldman Sachs Middle Market Lending Corp. (MMLC) in October 2020.
\n
As a result of the merger, GSBD’s asset base more than doubled to$3.5 billion. The MMLC shareholders received 1.1336 GSBD shares for every share of MMLC.
\n
GSBD had $3.11 billion in investments and $401.8 million in unfunded commitments for111 portfolio companies across 37 industries at the end of September. Approximately 84% of its assets are first lien loans with an average yield of 8.4%.
\n
It’s essential to remember that this is an investment focused on income rather than capital appreciation. The BDC’s current quarterly distribution of $0.50 yields a very high 10.4%.
\n
Do not buy GSBD if you’re expecting capital appreciation. It had just completed its merger with Social Capital Hedosophia III, the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) sponsored by “Silicon Valley venture capitalist” Chamath Palihapitiya.\nToday, as I write this, it’s worth approximately $1.94 billion, 74% less than it’s $7 billion valuation.\nWhen I last wrote about Clover Health in early December,I suggested,“only the most speculative investors ought to be anywhere near this healthcare stock.” Since then, CLOV stock has lost another 9% as we approach the end of the year.\nWhile CLOV stock is trading for pennies over $4, here are three similarly-valued stocks to buy for 2022.\nForget CLOV Stock — Buy This Instead\nAccording toFinviz.com,there are64 stocks with a market capitalization between $1.9 billion and $2 billion. My three picks grow sales, generate profits, and possess solid balance sheets. If you’re lucky, at least one will pay a decent dividend.\nUltimately, all three are, in my opinion, safer bets than CLOV in 2022.\nSonic Automotive(NYSE:SAH) is my first pick. It has a current market cap of $2 billion. Its stock is up 25.77% year-to-date (YTD), 258 basis points less than theS&P 500.\nSonic is one of the top automotive retailers in America. Its 119 dealerships are located in 17 states and represent more than 25 brands. In its latest fiscal year, it sold 93,000 new vehicles and 159,000 used vehicles, generating $9.8 billion in revenue. It expects to grow its revenue to $25 billion by 2025.\nFrom a brand breakdown, luxury accounts for 55% of its sales with BMW, Mercedes, and Audi accounting for 71% of its luxury vehicle sales.\nIn 2021’s third-quarter, its revenues grew by 20.6% to $3.07 billion. Its net income rose 46.9% to $84.7 million and its total debt is$1.97 billion or 56% of its total assets.\nThe company’s Echo Park used car business should be a big contributor as it pushes to $25 billion in sales by 2025.\nThe Second Alternative to CLOV Stock\nSally Beauty Holdings(NYSE:SBH) business and the stock bounced back in 2021. That’s great news for long-time shareholders. Up 42.8% YTD, SBH’s five-year return looks a little better as a result. However, it’s down 29% on a cumulative basis over the past 60 months.\nBack in May 2017, I compared Sally Beauty and Ulta Beauty Holdings(NASDAQ:ULTA). ULTA was on a bit of a roll, while SBH was stumbling and bumbling. So, wisely, I said ULTA was the better stock to buy. Ulta is up 28.2% since — it’s also had its ups and downs — while SBH is up 3.8% over the same period.\nHowever, I thought Sally Beauty’s restructuring at the time was gaining traction. While Covid-19 didn’t help its business, its most recent results are encouraging.\nFor all of fiscal 2021, its sales increased10.3% to $3.87 billion with 10.2% same-store sales growth. Its operating earnings grew 44.2% in 2021 to $622.7 million, and it managed to reduce its debt by $420 million in the past year. That puts its long-term debt at $1.38 billion or 48% of its total assets.\nOn Oct. 1, board member Denise Paulonistook over as chief executive officer (CEO)of the company. She is tasked with growing sales and profits after previous CEO Chris Brinkman thoroughly modernized its beauty business during his six-year tenure.\nA Final Possibility\nMy final alternative is Goldman Sachs BDC(NYSE:GSBD). It was founded in 2012 to make debt and equity investments in middle-market companies — defined as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) earnings of$5 million to $200 million— and merged with Goldman Sachs Middle Market Lending Corp. (MMLC) in October 2020.\nAs a result of the merger, GSBD’s asset base more than doubled to$3.5 billion. The MMLC shareholders received 1.1336 GSBD shares for every share of MMLC.\nGSBD had $3.11 billion in investments and $401.8 million in unfunded commitments for111 portfolio companies across 37 industries at the end of September. Approximately 84% of its assets are first lien loans with an average yield of 8.4%.\nIt’s essential to remember that this is an investment focused on income rather than capital appreciation. The BDC’s current quarterly distribution of $0.50 yields a very high 10.4%.\nDo not buy GSBD if you’re expecting capital appreciation. However, if you’re willing to take on more risk than a guaranteed investment, it’s an excellent way to boost your income portfolio.\nNone of these three alternatives to CLOV stock are a sure thing. But, that said, I don’t believe they possess the same amount of risk as Clover Health.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1470,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":691591611,"gmtCreate":1640218180490,"gmtModify":1640218180490,"author":{"id":"4095681829599530","authorId":"4095681829599530","name":"chinks29","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4095681829599530","authorIdStr":"4095681829599530"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/691591611","repostId":"2193113147","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2193113147","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1640213688,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2193113147?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-23 06:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall St mints strong gains on rosy economic data, encouraging Omicron update","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2193113147","media":"Reuters","summary":"* Tesla jumps as CEO Musk says he has sold 'enough' stock. * Pfizer rises as oral COVID-19 pill wins approval. It is also a top-trending stock on Yahoo Financeand social media today.\nSince U.S. EV sales are growing rapidly and Nio is seen by some as China’s version of Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA), Nio’s move into the U.S. could greatly boost its financial results down the road. Such a development, in turn, is likely to meaningfully lift NIO stock.\nJob Ads Lift NIO Stock\nToday’s buzz was sparked by advertisements for U.S.-based positions that Nio recently posted on LinkedIn. Specifically, the firm has posted ads for 46 positions in America. Many of the jobs focus on managing technical operations, including software development and autonomous driving.\nAmong the U.S.-based positions that Niois currently seeking are Head of Architecture & Design, Head of Power Strategy, and Audio Systems Architect. Most of the positions are based in San Jose, California.\nA number of the advertisements went live a month ago, while others have been posted in recent days.\nBut why do investors care? Several months ago, investors determined that Nio was preparing to enter Norway based on job ads from LinkedIn.\nTherefore, it’s reasonable to believe that, with the EV manufacturer posting ads for jobs in the U.S., it may be preparing to start selling its automobiles in America.\nProgress in Norway and China\nAt the same time, Nio is making progress in its existing markets, which is likely to intrigue investors. Nio launched its ES8 sedan in Norway on Sept. 30. It’s planning to debut another electric sedan, the ET7, in the country in 2022. After Norway, Nio is expected to “gradually” enter additional markets in Europe.\nIn China, Nio’s sales have been growing rapidly. In the first 11 months of the year, its deliveries jumped 120.4% YOY to 80,940 EVs.\nThe Bottom Line\nToday’s news comes amid high interest by investors in both EV stocks and Chinese stocks. EV stocks have been an area of focus as sales rapidly ramp around the world and as many governments look to incentivize EV sales in order to reduce carbon emissions.\nMeanwhile, many investors have closely followed U.S.-listed Chinese stocks.
