Meanwhile, the S&P 500 fell 0.1% and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 0.8%.
\n
Big Tech stocks were hit hard, as seen by the tech-heavy Nasdaq. Over a quarter of the S&P 500’s total market capitalization is from technology companies, so when their shares decline, they usually bring the S&P 500 down with them, too.
\n
Snap shares slid 26.6% as its revenue for the third quarter was slightly below estimates. Snap said Apple‘s (AAPL) privacy changes damaged advertising sales. The company also warned that brands’ supply chain constraints—which limit the ability to meet sales goals—are prompting them to reduce ad spend. That hurt Facebook and Alphabet stocks, which fell 5.1% and 3%, respectively.
\n
The stock market wasn’t having as rough a day as the major indexes would suggest. While tech stocks dropped, other sectors rose; about 63% of the S&P 500’s stocks were in the green, according to FactSet.
\n
Earnings season thus far has largely propelled stocks higher. The aggregate earnings per share result from S&P 500 companies—excluding financials—has beaten analyst estimates by about 10%, according to Credit Suisse. Just a few weeks ago, profits were beating by only about 4%.
\n
“A return to a focus on earnings would once again favor stock picking over buying Indexes,” writes Louis Navellier, founder of Navellier & Associates.
\n
Another positive—certainly helping to lift economically-sensitive stocks—was strong economic data. The Markit Services Purchasing Managers Index showed a reading of 58.2 for October, beating estimates of 55.5. Any reading above 50 indicates that activity increased. The Markit Manufacturing PMI read 59.2, just below the expected 60.5.
\n
While the PMI results showed that companies are paying higher costs for materials, they’re also raising prices. Ultimately, “demand is clearly strong,” writes Andrew Hollenhorst, Citigroup economist.
\n
Markets continue to monitor one key negative factor—ongoing inflation. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell implied at a virtual conference Friday that he is becoming slightly more concerned that high inflation is here to stay.
\n
Here are 5 stocks on the move Friday:
\n
Intel was down 11.7% after the chip maker missed sales expectations when it posted earnings late Thursday, putting down a decline in its PC business to broader component shortages.
\n
Mattel rose 0.6% after reporting better-than-expected earnings.
\n
Cleveland-Cliffs gained 12.7% after its earnings beat estimates and the company offered optimistic guidance on steel pricing.
\n
Zoom Video Communications advanced 1% after getting upgraded to Overweight from Neutral at JPMorgan.
\n
Beyond Meat tumbled 11.8% after forecasting third-quarter sales of $106 million, compared with its prior forecast of $120 million to $140 million.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Meanwhile, the S&P 500 fell 0.1% and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 0.8%.\nBig Tech stocks were hit hard, as seen by the tech-heavy Nasdaq. Over a quarter of the S&P 500’s total market capitalization is from technology companies, so when their shares decline, they usually bring the S&P 500 down with them, too.\nSnap shares slid 26.6% as its revenue for the third quarter was slightly below estimates. Snap said Apple‘s (AAPL) privacy changes damaged advertising sales. The company also warned that brands’ supply chain constraints—which limit the ability to meet sales goals—are prompting them to reduce ad spend. That hurt Facebook and Alphabet stocks, which fell 5.1% and 3%, respectively.\nThe stock market wasn’t having as rough a day as the major indexes would suggest. While tech stocks dropped, other sectors rose; about 63% of the S&P 500’s stocks were in the green, according to FactSet.\nEarnings season thus far has largely propelled stocks higher. The aggregate earnings per share result from S&P 500 companies—excluding financials—has beaten analyst estimates by about 10%, according to Credit Suisse. Just a few weeks ago, profits were beating by only about 4%.\n“A return to a focus on earnings would once again favor stock picking over buying Indexes,” writes Louis Navellier, founder of Navellier & Associates.\nAnother positive—certainly helping to lift economically-sensitive stocks—was strong economic data. The Markit Services Purchasing Managers Index showed a reading of 58.2 for October, beating estimates of 55.5. Any reading above 50 indicates that activity increased. The Markit Manufacturing PMI read 59.2, just below the expected 60.5.\nWhile the PMI results showed that companies are paying higher costs for materials, they’re also raising prices. Ultimately, “demand is clearly strong,” writes Andrew Hollenhorst, Citigroup economist.\nMarkets continue to monitor one key negative factor—ongoing inflation. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell implied at a virtual conference Friday that he is becoming slightly more concerned that high inflation is here to stay.\nHere are 5 stocks on the move Friday:\nIntel was down 11.7% after the chip maker missed sales expectations when it posted earnings late Thursday, putting down a decline in its PC business to broader component shortages.\nMattel rose 0.6% after reporting better-than-expected earnings.\nCleveland-Cliffs gained 12.7% after its earnings beat estimates and the company offered optimistic guidance on steel pricing.\nZoom Video Communications advanced 1% after getting upgraded to Overweight from Neutral at JPMorgan.\nBeyond Meat tumbled 11.8% after forecasting third-quarter sales of $106 million, compared with its prior forecast of $120 million to $140 million.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":330,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":851640148,"gmtCreate":1634907287149,"gmtModify":1634907524955,"author":{"id":"4094629900226550","authorId":"4094629900226550","name":"bohobird","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/619d56a6480acc6768e06ff1ef7a6eb4","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4094629900226550","authorIdStr":"4094629900226550"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Apple(AAPL)$Huat huat ah! The company processed a whopping $1.1 trillion in payment volume over the past 12 months, and there are now an incredible 403 million active accounts using PayPal's services.
\n
This leading fintech platform just released some significant updates to its consumer app, and that's investors have plenty to cheer about. Read on to see if PayPal is a millionaire-maker stock.
\n
\n
A new and improved financial sidekick
\n
On Sept. 21, CEO Dan Shulman announced some highly anticipated upgrades to PayPal's mobile app:
\n
\n We're excited to introduce the first version of the new PayPal app, a one-stop destination for our customers to take charge of their everyday financial lives, with new features like access to high yield savings, in-app shopping tools for customers to find deals and earn cash back rewards, early access Direct Deposit, and bill pay.\n
\n
These upgrades are in addition to existing capabilities, like sending money to friends, making purchases with the buy now, pay later option, and paying for purchases with crypto.
\n
As it stands today, PayPal has 371 million active consumer accounts. But Schulman isn't satisfied with this number. He wants the business to one day count 1 billion daily users, a huge jump from where things are today. The added features PayPal just revealed will certainly help achieve that lofty goal as people will start to view the app as a complete financial services tool.
\n
It's worth pointing out that PayPal is technically not a bank; it relies on third-party financial institutions to handle the behind-the-scenes banking-related activities. For example, the savings account, called PayPal Savings, will be offered by Synchrony Financial. The advantage with this strategy is that PayPal can focus its attention on gaining users and providing an easy-to-use consumer experience, while at the same time avoiding the onerous regulatory and compliance requirements needed to operate a bank. Synchrony, on the other hand, gets access to a wider audience which it wouldn't be able to reach otherwise. It's a win-win situation for both parties.
\n
It's also expected that PayPal will introduce stock market investing into the app in the near future, pitting it against a younger (but popular) service like Robinhood Markets. Although PayPal will certainly be late to the brokerage party, its massive existing user base trumps Robinhood's 21 million active accounts.
\n
By 2025, the number of people who use digital wallets is expected to reach 4.4 billion globally. And PayPal's recent initiatives, which emphasize simplicity and security, underscore the company's goal to be the main beneficiary of this push.
\n
Is the stock a buy today?
\n
PayPal's stock has been a longtime winner for shareholders, soaring more than sevenfold since June of 2015. I think the streak of outperformance, however, is far from over.
\n
First of all, the mobile app's enhancements are a perfect example of the optionality embedded in the business model, where the company can continually add more features in order to drive customer growth and higher engagement. PayPal says that the average account processed 43.5 transactions over the past 12 months. Expect that figure to steadily march higher over time as customers' propensity to use PayPal for all their needs rises.
\n
And PayPal possesses stellar financial metrics. During the second quarter, the business produced a non-generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) operating margin and net income margin of 26.5% and 21.8%, respectively. Additionally, only 4% of revenue is needed to invest in growth in any given year, so PayPal is able to return capital back to investors while still expanding at a rapid pace. So far in 2021, $1.5 billion of share repurchases have been executed.
\n
As you can see, PayPal is clearly an outstanding company. The ability and willingness to keep pushing the needle in the pursuit of becoming a single, comprehensive financial tool for its users will propel the business over the next several years. Rejuvenating the mobile app is a perfect example of this strategy.
\n
The growth this company continues to generate means that buying PayPal stock now and holding for the long term could put you on the path to becoming a millionaire.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
This Unstoppable Fintech Stock Is Getting Even Better. Read on to see if PayPal is a millionaire-maker stock. \nImage source: Getty Images.\nA new and improved financial sidekick \nOn Sept. 21, CEO Dan Shulman announced some highly anticipated upgrades to PayPal's mobile app: \n\n We're excited to introduce the first version of the new PayPal app, a one-stop destination for our customers to take charge of their everyday financial lives, with new features like access to high yield savings, in-app shopping tools for customers to find deals and earn cash back rewards, early access Direct Deposit, and bill pay.\n\nThese upgrades are in addition to existing capabilities, like sending money to friends, making purchases with the buy now, pay later option, and paying for purchases with crypto. \nAs it stands today, PayPal has 371 million active consumer accounts. But Schulman isn't satisfied with this number. He wants the business to one day count 1 billion daily users, a huge jump from where things are today. The added features PayPal just revealed will certainly help achieve that lofty goal as people will start to view the app as a complete financial services tool. \nIt's worth pointing out that PayPal is technically not a bank; it relies on third-party financial institutions to handle the behind-the-scenes banking-related activities. \nIt's also expected that PayPal will introduce stock market investing into the app in the near future, pitting it against a younger (but popular) service like Robinhood Markets. Although PayPal will certainly be late to the brokerage party, its massive existing user base trumps Robinhood's 21 million active accounts. \nBy 2025, the number of people who use digital wallets is expected to reach 4.4 billion globally. And PayPal's recent initiatives, which emphasize simplicity and security, underscore the company's goal to be the main beneficiary of this push. \nIs the stock a buy today? \nPayPal's stock has been a longtime winner for shareholders, soaring more than sevenfold since June of 2015. I think the streak of outperformance, however, is far from over. \nFirst of all, the mobile app's enhancements are a perfect example of the optionality embedded in the business model, where the company can continually add more features in order to drive customer growth and higher engagement. PayPal says that the average account processed 43.5 transactions over the past 12 months. Expect that figure to steadily march higher over time as customers' propensity to use PayPal for all their needs rises. \nAnd PayPal possesses stellar financial metrics. \nAs you can see, PayPal is clearly an outstanding company. The ability and willingness to keep pushing the needle in the pursuit of becoming a single, comprehensive financial tool for its users will propel the business over the next several years. Rejuvenating the mobile app is a perfect example of this strategy. \nThe growth this company continues to generate means that buying PayPal stock now and holding for the long term could put you on the path to becoming a millionaire.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":199,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":829820565,"gmtCreate":1633488606460,"gmtModify":1633488606541,"author":{"id":"4094629900226550","authorId":"4094629900226550","name":"bohobird","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/619d56a6480acc6768e06ff1ef7a6eb4","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4094629900226550","authorIdStr":"4094629900226550"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍🏼","listText":"👍🏼","text":"👍🏼","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/829820565","repostId":"1101968131","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1101968131","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1633473672,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1101968131?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-06 06:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street closes sharply higher as Big Tech roars back","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1101968131","media":"Reuters","summary":"Oct 5 - Wall Street ended sharply higher on Tuesday, as Microsoft and Apple spearheaded a strong rebound in growth stocks and investors awaited monthly payrolls data later this week that could influence the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision on when to scale back monetary stimulus.Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet, Wall Street's most valuable companies, each rose more than 1% following a selloff in growth stocks the day before.Facebook Inc rebounded 2.1% a day after taking a beating when its a","content":"
\n
Facebook bounces as services resume following outage
\n
Tech and financials among top advancers
\n
PepsiCo gains on raising annual revenue forecast
\n
Indexes: Dow +0.92%, S&P 500 +1.05%, Nasdaq +1.25%
\n
\n
Oct 5 (Reuters) - Wall Street ended sharply higher on Tuesday, as Microsoft and Apple spearheaded a strong rebound in growth stocks and investors awaited monthly payrolls data later this week that could influence the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision on when to scale back monetary stimulus.
\n
Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet, Wall Street's most valuable companies, each rose more than 1% following a selloff in growth stocks the day before.
\n
Facebook Inc rebounded 2.1% a day after taking a beating when its app and its photo-sharing platform Instagram went offline for hours.
\n
Nine of the 11 major S&P 500 sector indexes rose, with financials, communication services and technology leading the way.
\n
The S&P 500 logged its fourth straight day of 1% moves in either direction.
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell implied at a virtual conference Friday that he is becoming slightly more concerned that high inflation is here to stay.\nHere are 5 stocks on the move Friday:\nIntel was down 11.7% after the chip maker missed sales expectations when it posted earnings late Thursday, putting down a decline in its PC business to broader component shortages.\nMattel rose 0.6% after reporting better-than-expected earnings.\nCleveland-Cliffs gained 12.7% after its earnings beat estimates and the company offered optimistic guidance on steel pricing.\nZoom Video Communications advanced 1% after getting upgraded to Overweight from Neutral at JPMorgan.\nBeyond Meat tumbled 11.8% after forecasting third-quarter sales of $106 million, compared with its prior forecast of $120 million to $140 million.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":330,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":820583238,"gmtCreate":1633402504922,"gmtModify":1633402552202,"author":{"id":"4094629900226550","authorId":"4094629900226550","name":"bohobird","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/619d56a6480acc6768e06ff1ef7a6eb4","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4094629900226550","authorIdStr":"4094629900226550"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍🏼","listText":"👍🏼","text":"👍🏼","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/820583238","repostId":"1128252429","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1128252429","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1633394229,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1128252429?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-05 08:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Twitter, Snapchat Stocks Drop After Facebook Whistleblower's Accusations","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1128252429","media":"The Street","summary":"Shares of social media platforms Twitter (TWTR) -Get Twitter, Inc.
