If you agree with that view, then it's smarter to buy Apple's stock after its latest post-earnings dip than to sell it simply because it faces some near-term supply chain challenges.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":296,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":863785823,"gmtCreate":1632437106062,"gmtModify":1632727611210,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[龇牙]","listText":"[龇牙]","text":"[龇牙]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/863785823","repostId":"2169769699","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2169769699","pubTimestamp":1632434160,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2169769699?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-24 05:56","market":"us","language":"zh","title":"苹果:新系统已弃用TLS 1.0/1.1 敦促开发者过渡到1.2及更高版本","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2169769699","media":"鼻涕泡泡崩一脸","summary":"苹果正加速在自家多个系统中推进弃用传输层安全性1.0和1.1的工作,用更现代的版本取代这些早已过时的安全协议。

这些变化在iOS13.4 和macOS10.15.4 的初始测试版中实施。

\n

","source":"zol_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; They fear stocks are getting too expensive when the market reaches fresh highs. This isn't necessarily true -- stock valuations should be considered in context on an individual basis -- but nonetheless this anxiety is prevalent.
\n
However, just because the market is hovering near highs, that doesn't mean every stock is up. In fact, high-quality businesses like Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM), Wix.com (NASDAQ:WIX), and Roku (NASDAQ:ROKU) are all down sharply over the past few months. So put general anxiety aside and consider why these three stocks could make great additions to any portfolio right now.
\n
\n
Zoom: Down 25% from its 3-month high
\n
In 2020, many people started working remotely from home. But the exclusive work-from-home trend doesn't look like it's sticking around. Rather, companies are adopting a hybrid model -- working both from home and in the office. According to a recent study from Accenture, 83% of workers approve of the hybrid model. And 63% of high-growth companies plan to permanently implement the hybrid model going forward.
\n
Here's why this is important for Zoom: Companies will still need a video-conferencing tool for the foreseeable future. It doesn't matter that companies might use Zoom less in coming years than they did during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The point is they'll likely continue subscribing to keep their hybrid workforces going.
\n
Recent financial results from Zoom seem to confirm this new reality. The company continues to grow its customer count even though the pandemic catalyst has faded into the rearview mirror. In fact, it finished the second quarter of its fiscal 2022 with 2,278 customers spending over $100,000 annually -- that's an increase of 14% just from the previous quarter. For perspective, this high-spend customer base now makes up 20% of total revenue.
\n
Zoom isn't going anywhere and has plenty of good growth ahead. But what also makes this an intriguing investment right now is the stock has never been cheaper from a valuation perspective. The stock now trades at a price-to-sales ratio under 25, which is the lowest it's ever been.
\n
\n
Wix: Down 29% from its 3-month high
\n
Forget what you know about Wix for a moment and consider the following three facts. First, the company grew registered users 15% year over year and 5% quarter over quarter in the second quarter of 2021. Second, Wix users tend to spend more over time, as evidenced by its net revenue retention rate of 113% in Q2. Third, the company is actively preparing for much more growth by rapidly increasing its workforce 10% from last quarter and by building out its new $30 million headquarters.
\n
In my opinion, these three factors are indicative of strong business fundamentals. But the market has lost interest in Wix stock because of some near-term uncertainty regarding how the economy might react to new strains of the coronavirus. Essentially, some entrepreneurs worry that starting a new business -- even online -- might not make sense if pandemic is worsening again and puts new stresses on their would-be customers. It's a valid concern but it affects the short term. For the long term, Wix seems to be sitting on a firm foundation.
\n
Consider that the majority of Wix's revenue comes from creative subscriptions -- buying a domain and building a website, among other things. These subscription products result in high-margin, recurring revenue. Currently, its annual recurring revenue is at $967 million -- up 22% year over year. To me, with a market capitalization of just $12 billion, Wix stock is a great value based on its ARR and ongoing growth potential.
\n
\n
Roku: Down 32% from its 3-month high
\n
Investors appear to be shying away from Roku stock lately for two reasons. First, it seems the connected-TV space is getting more competitive. For example, Amazon just launched its first TV with its operating system built in, directly challenging Roku's CTV operating-system dominance. Second, Roku stock trades with a P/S ratio of around 20 -- a lofty valuation that's more than double where it traded just five years ago.
\n
To the former concern, consider how Roku could still be a major winner even if the competition encroaches on its turf. According to eMarketer, CTV ad spend is expected to grow 49% year over year in 2021, and thereafter at a nearly 20% compound annual growth rate through 2025. And according to FreeWheel, Roku currently demands a whopping 43% of CTV ad slots, meaning this company should benefit from the massive growth in CTV ad spend even as competitors attempt to steal market share.
\n
To the latter concern, Roku is more deserving of a higher P/S multiple now than it was five years ago. Here's why. Companies with low profit potential typically get cheaper valuations. But Roku's profit margin has consistently expanded over time as low-margin hardware revenue is superseded by its high-margin ad revenue. At the end of 2016, the company's gross profit margin was just 30%. In the most recent quarter, it was 52%. This upward trend looks poised to continue and that's why this stock isn't as expensive as it seems at first glance.
\n
For these reasons and more, Roku looks like an opportunistic long-term buy right now. They fear stocks are getting too expensive when the market reaches fresh highs. This isn't necessarily true -- stock valuations should be considered in context on an individual basis -- but nonetheless this anxiety is prevalent.\nHowever, just because the market is hovering near highs, that doesn't mean every stock is up. In fact, high-quality businesses like Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM), Wix.com (NASDAQ:WIX), and Roku (NASDAQ:ROKU) are all down sharply over the past few months. So put general anxiety aside and consider why these three stocks could make great additions to any portfolio right now.\nImage source: Zoom Video Communications.\nZoom: Down 25% from its 3-month high\nIn 2020, many people started working remotely from home. But the exclusive work-from-home trend doesn't look like it's sticking around. Rather, companies are adopting a hybrid model -- working both from home and in the office. According to a recent study from Accenture, 83% of workers approve of the hybrid model. And 63% of high-growth companies plan to permanently implement the hybrid model going forward.\nHere's why this is important for Zoom: Companies will still need a video-conferencing tool for the foreseeable future. It doesn't matter that companies might use Zoom less in coming years than they did during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The point is they'll likely continue subscribing to keep their hybrid workforces going.\nRecent financial results from Zoom seem to confirm this new reality. The company continues to grow its customer count even though the pandemic catalyst has faded into the rearview mirror. In fact, it finished the second quarter of its fiscal 2022 with 2,278 customers spending over $100,000 annually -- that's an increase of 14% just from the previous quarter. For perspective, this high-spend customer base now makes up 20% of total revenue.\nZoom isn't going anywhere and has plenty of good growth ahead. But what also makes this an intriguing investment right now is the stock has never been cheaper from a valuation perspective. The stock now trades at a price-to-sales ratio under 25, which is the lowest it's ever been.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nWix: Down 29% from its 3-month high\nForget what you know about Wix for a moment and consider the following three facts. First, the company grew registered users 15% year over year and 5% quarter over quarter in the second quarter of 2021. Second, Wix users tend to spend more over time, as evidenced by its net revenue retention rate of 113% in Q2. Third, the company is actively preparing for much more growth by rapidly increasing its workforce 10% from last quarter and by building out its new $30 million headquarters.\nIn my opinion, these three factors are indicative of strong business fundamentals. For the long term, Wix seems to be sitting on a firm foundation.\nConsider that the majority of Wix's revenue comes from creative subscriptions -- buying a domain and building a website, among other things. These subscription products result in high-margin, recurring revenue. Currently, its annual recurring revenue is at $967 million -- up 22% year over year. To me, with a market capitalization of just $12 billion, Wix stock is a great value based on its ARR and ongoing growth potential.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nRoku: Down 32% from its 3-month high\nInvestors appear to be shying away from Roku stock lately for two reasons. First, it seems the connected-TV space is getting more competitive. For example, Amazon just launched its first TV with its operating system built in, directly challenging Roku's CTV operating-system dominance. Second, Roku stock trades with a P/S ratio of around 20 -- a lofty valuation that's more than double where it traded just five years ago.\nTo the former concern, consider how Roku could still be a major winner even if the competition encroaches on its turf. According to eMarketer, CTV ad spend is expected to grow 49% year over year in 2021, and thereafter at a nearly 20% compound annual growth rate through 2025. And according to FreeWheel, Roku currently demands a whopping 43% of CTV ad slots, meaning this company should benefit from the massive growth in CTV ad spend even as competitors attempt to steal market share.\nTo the latter concern, Roku is more deserving of a higher P/S multiple now than it was five years ago. This upward trend looks poised to continue and that's why this stock isn't as expensive as it seems at first glance.\nFor these reasons and more, Roku looks like an opportunistic long-term buy right now. In fact, Roku, Wix, and Zoom all appear poised to beat the market average over the next five years. So if you've never given these stocks a hard look, now's a great time to give them some serious consideration. Don't let the market's all-time highs keep you fearfully on the sidelines.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":597,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":885023634,"gmtCreate":1631747177128,"gmtModify":1631890644630,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[真香]","listText":"[真香]","text":"[真香]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/885023634","repostId":"1111336683","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":550,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":883075123,"gmtCreate":1631194203362,"gmtModify":1631890644642,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[鬼脸]","listText":"[鬼脸]","text":"[鬼脸]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/883075123","repostId":"2166317643","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":643,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":883028212,"gmtCreate":1631191271736,"gmtModify":1631890644654,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[龇牙]","listText":"[龇牙]","text":"[龇牙]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/883028212","repostId":"1178868825","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":603,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":880686198,"gmtCreate":1631055432214,"gmtModify":1631890644670,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[真香]","listText":"[真香]","text":"[真香]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/880686198","repostId":"2165350503","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":502,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":814474933,"gmtCreate":1630883068822,"gmtModify":1631890644681,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[真香]","listText":"[真香]","text":"[真香]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/814474933","repostId":"1107645720","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1107645720","pubTimestamp":1630679339,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1107645720?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-03 22:28","market":"us","language":"en","title":"After criticism, Apple says it will delay child safety updates","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1107645720","media":"Reuters","summary":"Sept 3 (Reuters) - These names are now harder to come by as many fundamental hedge funds learned their lesson from the GameStop saga and started to cut back their bearish positions and avoid concentration. That leaves one corner of the hedge fund community particularly vulnerable — merger-arbitrage funds — where short-selling is their bread and butter.\nMerger arbitrage is a strategy that involves simultaneously purchasing and selling short the respective stock of two merging companies. This is because the target company’s stock typically trades below the acquisition price. As the deal nears completion, the target’s stock typically rises and the acquirer’s shares fall. So arb traders make money in a bet on the deal closing as they buy the target and sell short the acquirer.\nMerger arb funds make different variations on those kinds of bets. Some may sell the target stock short and buy the acquirer shares if they believe the deal will fall apart for some reason before completion.\nThese funds are now feeling the pain from the short squeezes created by Reddit traders.\nTakeAMD. The chipmaker entered an agreement with Xilinx in October 2020 to acquire the semiconductor company in a $35 billion all-stock transaction. The high-profile deal attracted interest from many merger arbitrage funds speculating on the deal outcome. As of mid-August, about 18% of AMD’s available shares are sold short, according to Nasdaq.\nThe high short interest in turn grabbed the attention of WallStreetBets traders, who piled into the name and created a squeeze that saw the share jumping to a record high of $122 from $90 in just six trading days.\n\n“That’s a large deal that’s been going on for a long time. The reason that it had a big short interest is because it was involved in the transaction, so people like us are shorting AMD,” said Chris Pultz, a portfolio manager at Kellner Capital, a hedge fund focused on merger arbitrage.\n“So it made it look like it had a big short interest by fundamental people out there, but it’s really short interest by the arbitrage community. That caused a lot of pain for a lot of people because there are big positions in this,” Pultz said. “There was no change in the underlying deal. It was just a function of these guys getting ahold of the stock that had a big short interest.”\nThe manager said he has been buying out-of the-money call options in situations like AMD to avoid taking the full blunt of the short squeeze.\nIn July, AMC announced that stockholders approved its acquisition of Xilinx, and the proposed acquisition is on track to close by the end of the year.\nSupport.com is another example. The little-known software stock recently saw a GameStop-style rally as Reddit-obsessed retail investors zoned in on the heavily shorted name. Shares have soared more than 200% over the past month.\nMerger-arbitrage funds could be exposed to this name as well. In March, Support.com said it agreed to merge with Greenidge Generation Holdings. The company said earlier this month that it scheduled a special stockholders meeting for Sept. 10 to approve the proposed merger.\nOverall, event-driven hedge funds are up 9.6% this year through July, compared to a 17% gain for the S&P 500 during the same period, according to Credit Suisse prime brokerage data.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":162,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":814445351,"gmtCreate":1630882261973,"gmtModify":1631890644731,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[开心]","listText":"[开心]","text":"[开心]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/814445351","repostId":"2164808914","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":166,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":812738424,"gmtCreate":1630624013768,"gmtModify":1631893046917,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[微笑] [笑哭]","listText":"[微笑] [笑哭]","text":"[微笑] [笑哭]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/812738424","repostId":"2164825374","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":180,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":835776778,"gmtCreate":1629759807794,"gmtModify":1631893046927,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[开心]","listText":"[开心]","text":"[开心]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/835776778","repostId":"1179203616","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":282,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":892952629,"gmtCreate":1628636601661,"gmtModify":1631893046956,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[微笑]","listText":"[微笑]","text":"[微笑]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/892952629","repostId":"1182215080","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":313,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":883028212,"gmtCreate":1631191271736,"gmtModify":1631890644654,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[龇牙]","listText":"[龇牙]","text":"[龇牙]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/883028212","repostId":"1178868825","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1178868825","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1631189052,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1178868825?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-09 20:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Toplines Before US Market Open on Thursday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1178868825","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. stock futures fall ahead of jobless claims.\nChina’s tech stocks slid after firms including Tenc","content":"
\n
U.S. stock futures fall ahead of jobless claims.
\n
China’s tech stocks slid after firms including Tencent and NetEase were told to end their focus on profit in gaming.
\n
GameStop sinks on lack of guidance; The Opportunity in Its Stock Is Far More Clear.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1179203616","media":"Barrons","summary":"Palantir Technologies is one of the world’s quirkiest tech companies, and last week the story got we","content":"
Palantir Technologies is one of the world’s quirkiest tech companies, and last week the story got weirder than ever. But beneath the surface, there’s an oddly compelling case for the business and the stock.
\n
Palantir (ticker: PLTR) provides data analytics software to both commercial and government clients. The 18-year-old company has two primary platforms—Gotham, for government applications, and Foundry, for commercial customers. Palantir has a long history of serving U.S. military and intelligence agencies, but lately it’s been building out its sales team to bulk up its commercial business. That plan seems to be getting traction.
\n
Palantir went public in a direct listing last September, with the stock opening at $10. It’s since taken shareholders on a wild ride, trading as high as $45 earlier this year. It’s now around $25, still up 150% from listing day.
\n
In its recently reported June quarter, Palantir posted revenue of $376 million, up 49% from the year-earlier level. The company got a big boost from its U.S. commercial business, which grew 90%. Palantir sees September quarter revenue inching up to $385 million, and it continues to forecast annual top-line growth of 30%-plus through 2025.
\n
But the core story gets lost in the noise—Palantir seems to thrive on controversy. Almost everything it does is outside the box. Before last year’s stock listing, Palantir quietly moved its headquarters to Denver from Palo Alto. The reasoning boils down to politics.
\n
“When we started the company in 2004, the idea was to bring world-class software to our intelligence and military communities,” Palantir CEO Alex Karp told me in a June interview. “Numerous companies in Silicon Valley have refused either overtly, tacitly, or by dragging their feet, to work with the U.S. government. … I believe in general there’s a choice to be made in the world, and America has serious, rigorous, intelligent, and sometimes ruthless adversaries.”
\n
Palantir has also been doing unusual things with the $2.4 billion in cash on its balance sheet. The company is aggressively investing in PIPEs, or private investments in public equities, which are used in almost every SPAC merger to increase the capital raised. Palantir has committed $310 million across more than a dozen SPACs, or special purpose acquisition companies, according to its latest SEC filing. It’s completed $33 million of equity investments across three other companies.
\n

\n
The most recent tranche includes $20 million for Fast Radius, which offers a “cloud manufacturing platform;” $15 million for Tritium, a developer of electric vehicle chargers; $15 million for AdTheorent, which sells advertising software driven by machine learning; and $10 million for FinAccel, an Asian financial-services company.
\n
All the targets have signed up to be Palantir customers. As of June 30, Palantir said it had commercial contracts with its SPAC portfolio companies with a potential value of $428 million; the revenue contribution in the latest quarter was just $3 million, or less than 1% of the total.
\n
SPACs are a highly speculative place for a public company to be parking its cash. But I’d argue that Palantir’s decision to provide capital to new customers isn’t so different from offering vendor debt financing for hardware purchases—as IBM(IBM) and HP Enterprise (HPE) do—or from running robust venture capital programs, as do Intel(INTC) and Salesforce.com(CRM).
\n
Even so, it makes some analysts squeamish. “While we don’t oppose thinking outside the box, we think the strategy may have been taken too far, particularly with software contracts that appear to be negotiated alongside an investment by Palantir in the same customer,” Citi’s Tyler Radke wrote in a recent research note.
\n
The outside-the-box strategy goes beyond SPACs. This past week, Palantir disclosed that it had purchased $50.7 million worth of 100-ounce gold bars—a pretty strange move, even for Palantir. I ran a text search in the SEC’s database looking for references to gold bars, and found only references to other gold companies. The move makes Tesla’s(TSLA) Bitcoin purchases seem mundane.
\n
The fact that Palantir decided to buy physical gold, rather than, say, the SPDR Gold Shares ETF (GLD), makes it odder still. Palatnir ends up looking like the corporate equivalent of a doomsday prepper. I tried to follow-up with Karp to ask about the sudden interest in gold, but Palantir declined to make him available.
\n
One analyst who follows the company told me that the SPAC program and the foray into gold make Palantir a hard sell for institutional investors. You can see that in the shareholder base. Institutions hold only 25% of Palantir shares—compared with Oracle’s(ORCL) 46%,Snowflake’s(SNOW) 58%, and Microsoft’s(MSFT) 71%.
\n
But the same analyst is still bullish on Palantir and says it offers “a very interesting set of solutions to buyers that require scale and sophistication.”
\n
Palantir has a fanatical following among individual investors, and the company is playing to its fans. During its June-quarter earnings call, Palantir took nine questions from retail investors and just four from analysts.
\n
On traditional metrics, Palantir isn’t cheap. But beneath the surface, there’s an oddly compelling case for the business and the stock.\nPalantir (ticker: PLTR) provides data analytics software to both commercial and government clients. The 18-year-old company has two primary platforms—Gotham, for government applications, and Foundry, for commercial customers. Palantir has a long history of serving U.S. military and intelligence agencies, but lately it’s been building out its sales team to bulk up its commercial business. That plan seems to be getting traction.\nPalantir went public in a direct listing last September, with the stock opening at $10. It’s since taken shareholders on a wild ride, trading as high as $45 earlier this year. It’s now around $25, still up 150% from listing day.\nIn its recently reported June quarter, Palantir posted revenue of $376 million, up 49% from the year-earlier level. The company got a big boost from its U.S. commercial business, which grew 90%. Palantir sees September quarter revenue inching up to $385 million, and it continues to forecast annual top-line growth of 30%-plus through 2025.\nBut the core story gets lost in the noise—Palantir seems to thrive on controversy. Almost everything it does is outside the box. Before last year’s stock listing, Palantir quietly moved its headquarters to Denver from Palo Alto. The reasoning boils down to politics.\n“When we started the company in 2004, the idea was to bring world-class software to our intelligence and military communities,” Palantir CEO Alex Karp told me in a June interview. “Numerous companies in Silicon Valley have refused either overtly, tacitly, or by dragging their feet, to work with the U.S. government. … I believe in general there’s a choice to be made in the world, and America has serious, rigorous, intelligent, and sometimes ruthless adversaries.”\nPalantir has also been doing unusual things with the $2.4 billion in cash on its balance sheet. The company is aggressively investing in PIPEs, or private investments in public equities, which are used in almost every SPAC merger to increase the capital raised. Palantir has committed $310 million across more than a dozen SPACs, or special purpose acquisition companies, according to its latest SEC filing. It’s completed $33 million of equity investments across three other companies.\n\nThe most recent tranche includes $20 million for Fast Radius, which offers a “cloud manufacturing platform;” $15 million for Tritium, a developer of electric vehicle chargers; $15 million for AdTheorent, which sells advertising software driven by machine learning; and $10 million for FinAccel, an Asian financial-services company.\nAll the targets have signed up to be Palantir customers. As of June 30, Palantir said it had commercial contracts with its SPAC portfolio companies with a potential value of $428 million; the revenue contribution in the latest quarter was just $3 million, or less than 1% of the total.\nSPACs are a highly speculative place for a public company to be parking its cash. But I’d argue that Palantir’s decision to provide capital to new customers isn’t so different from offering vendor debt financing for hardware purchases—as IBM(IBM) and HP Enterprise (HPE) do—or from running robust venture capital programs, as do Intel(INTC) and Salesforce.com(CRM).\nEven so, it makes some analysts squeamish. “While we don’t oppose thinking outside the box, we think the strategy may have been taken too far, particularly with software contracts that appear to be negotiated alongside an investment by Palantir in the same customer,” Citi’s Tyler Radke wrote in a recent research note.\nThe outside-the-box strategy goes beyond SPACs. This past week, Palantir disclosed that it had purchased $50.7 million worth of 100-ounce gold bars—a pretty strange move, even for Palantir. I ran a text search in the SEC’s database looking for references to gold bars, and found only references to other gold companies. The move makes Tesla’s(TSLA) Bitcoin purchases seem mundane.\nThe fact that Palantir decided to buy physical gold, rather than, say, the SPDR Gold Shares ETF (GLD), makes it odder still. Palatnir ends up looking like the corporate equivalent of a doomsday prepper. I tried to follow-up with Karp to ask about the sudden interest in gold, but Palantir declined to make him available.\nOne analyst who follows the company told me that the SPAC program and the foray into gold make Palantir a hard sell for institutional investors. You can see that in the shareholder base. Institutions hold only 25% of Palantir shares—compared with Oracle’s(ORCL) 46%,Snowflake’s(SNOW) 58%, and Microsoft’s(MSFT) 71%.\nBut the same analyst is still bullish on Palantir and says it offers “a very interesting set of solutions to buyers that require scale and sophistication.”\nPalantir has a fanatical following among individual investors, and the company is playing to its fans. During its June-quarter earnings call, Palantir took nine questions from retail investors and just four from analysts.\nOn traditional metrics, Palantir isn’t cheap. The stock trades for 25 times estimated 2022 sales. But strip away the craziness, and Palantir looks like the single best bet on the future of complex data analytics. There aren’t many other ways for investors to play the opportunity—and the world isn’t getting any simpler or less dangerous.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":282,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":885023634,"gmtCreate":1631747177128,"gmtModify":1631890644630,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[真香]","listText":"[真香]","text":"[真香]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/885023634","repostId":"1111336683","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1111336683","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1631713664,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1111336683?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-15 21:47","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Lordstown Motors shares rose more than 2% in morning trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1111336683","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Lordstown Motors shares rose more than 2% in morning trading as Bank of America predicts 50% gain in","content":"
Lordstown Motors shares rose more than 2% in morning trading as Bank of America predicts 50% gain in Lucid, compares EV maker to Tesla and Ferrari.
\n

\n
Lucid Group appears to be on firm footing to become one of the new electric vehicle start-ups that could turn into a real player in the auto market, according to Bank of America.
\n
Analyst John Murphy initiated coverage of the stock with a buy rating, calling the company “the Tesla/Ferrari of new EV automakers” in a note to clients Wednesday.
\n
“Our Buy rating on Lucid Group is predicated on our view that the company is one of the most legitimate among the universe of start-up electric vehicle (EV) automakers and also a relative competitive threat to the universe of incumbent automakers,” the note said.
\n
In addition to designing consumer vehicles, Lucid also supplies key components for Formula E, the highest level fully electric motorsports league. These names are now harder to come by as many fundamental hedge funds learned their lesson from the GameStop saga and started to cut back their bearish positions and avoid concentration. 10 to approve the proposed merger.\nOverall, event-driven hedge funds are up 9.6% this year through July, compared to a 17% gain for the S&P 500 during the same period, according to Credit Suisse prime brokerage data.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":162,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":841377089,"gmtCreate":1635893858871,"gmtModify":1635893858959,"author":{"id":"4090589669980690","authorId":"4090589669980690","name":"SMW","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"x","listText":"x","text":"x","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/841377089","repostId":"2180872447","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2180872447","pubTimestamp":1635863109,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2180872447?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-02 22:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is Apple Stock a Buy?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2180872447","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The tech giant can't keep up with the market's demand for its products.","content":"
Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock price recently dipped after the tech giant posted a mixed fourth-quarter report on Oct. 28.
