Slowly, it has been recovering lost ground as economies are going through stages of reopening.
\n
The company will report third-quarter earnings on Tuesday, July 27, and investors expect a continuation of that reopening momentum. But emerging trends -- mainly the surge in coronavirus infections caused by the delta variant -- could derail the recovery.
\n
\n
The delta variant risks slowing down reopening momentum
\n
Starbucks has 20,261 locations in the U.S. and China, which represent 62% of its locations worldwide. The two countries are also furthest along in vaccinating their populations. As of this writing, China has administered over 1.54 billion doses, and the U.S. has administered 342 million -- enough to fully vaccinate 55% and 53.4% of their populations, respectively.
\n
The higher vaccination rates are allowing for faster reopening of economies in the two markets. In its most recent quarter, Starbucks reported U.S. sales eclipsed levels from before the pandemic. Meanwhile, sales in China were 90% recovered. Therefore, a resurgence in COVID-19 cases caused by the delta variant is less likely to cause economic lockdowns in those two countries.
\n
Even if a renewal of lockdowns is far less likely, the resurgence in cases could slow down reopening. Millions of students are expected to return to campus in the fall semester. And businesses are preparing to bring back employees to offices at least part-time in the second half of the year. The increase in infections could delay both.
\n
What this could mean for investors
\n
Analysts on Wall Street expect Starbucks to report revenue of $7.24 billion and earnings per share of $0.77 in its third quarter. If it meets those expectations, it would lift year-to-date revenue to $20.64 billion after the company reported revenue of $6.7 billion each in the first and second quarter.
\n
Interestingly, management has informed investors to expect overall revenue in the range of $28.5 billion to $29.3 billion for fiscal 2021. And considering that historically, Starbucks generates more revenue in the final quarter of the year compared to the first three, it would be on pace for reaching the yearly target.
\n
Still, management might provide an update on the fourth quarter. The delta variant is at least slowing the pace of economic reopenings. For instance, several major corporations have delayed a return to offices, and some countries have extended or instituted travel restrictions. Those developments could have hampered Starbucks' expectations for the fourth quarter.
\n
The stock price is up 16.9% in 2021 and 11.5% in the last month alone. Slowly, it has been recovering lost ground as economies are going through stages of reopening.\nThe company will report third-quarter earnings on Tuesday, July 27, and investors expect a continuation of that reopening momentum. But emerging trends -- mainly the surge in coronavirus infections caused by the delta variant -- could derail the recovery.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nThe delta variant risks slowing down reopening momentum\nStarbucks has 20,261 locations in the U.S. and China, which represent 62% of its locations worldwide. The two countries are also furthest along in vaccinating their populations. As of this writing, China has administered over 1.54 billion doses, and the U.S. has administered 342 million -- enough to fully vaccinate 55% and 53.4% of their populations, respectively.\nThe higher vaccination rates are allowing for faster reopening of economies in the two markets. In its most recent quarter, Starbucks reported U.S. sales eclipsed levels from before the pandemic. Meanwhile, sales in China were 90% recovered. Therefore, a resurgence in COVID-19 cases caused by the delta variant is less likely to cause economic lockdowns in those two countries.\nEven if a renewal of lockdowns is far less likely, the resurgence in cases could slow down reopening. Millions of students are expected to return to campus in the fall semester. And businesses are preparing to bring back employees to offices at least part-time in the second half of the year. The increase in infections could delay both.\nWhat this could mean for investors\nAnalysts on Wall Street expect Starbucks to report revenue of $7.24 billion and earnings per share of $0.77 in its third quarter. If it meets those expectations, it would lift year-to-date revenue to $20.64 billion after the company reported revenue of $6.7 billion each in the first and second quarter.\nInterestingly, management has informed investors to expect overall revenue in the range of $28.5 billion to $29.3 billion for fiscal 2021. And considering that historically, Starbucks generates more revenue in the final quarter of the year compared to the first three, it would be on pace for reaching the yearly target.\nStill, management might provide an update on the fourth quarter. The delta variant is at least slowing the pace of economic reopenings. For instance, several major corporations have delayed a return to offices, and some countries have extended or instituted travel restrictions. Those developments could have hampered Starbucks' expectations for the fourth quarter.\nThe stock price is up 16.9% in 2021 and 11.5% in the last month alone. It does not appear that investors are pricing in any possibility of negative news coming out of Starbucks' earnings report. That raises the potential for a sharper sell-off if there is one.Investors looking to start a position in the company are better served waiting until after the earnings release to buy. Any investor would be proud of such returns, particularly given the relatively short period it took the vaccine maker to accomplish this feat.
\n
But that raises an interesting question: After crushing the broader market over the past year and a half, how much upside does Moderna have left? Is it too late to get in on this high-flying biotech? Let's look into Moderna's prospects, both within the coronavirus market and beyond, to determine whether it is still worth purchasing its shares.
\n

\n
^SPX data by YCharts
\n
Is the coronavirus vaccine tailwind over?
\n
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of July 21, 161.9 million people in the U.S. have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Many more have received vaccines elsewhere in the world. The two leaders in this space -- Moderna and Pfizer -- have both reported that their respective vaccines are still effective after six months.
\n
There is evidence that Moderna's vaccine, mRNA-1273, is also potent against newer variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the disease, including the delta variant that is now responsible for over 80% of new cases in the U.S. One could conclude from these facts that Moderna won't benefit a whole lot more from mRNA-1273. After all, the company's shares have already skyrocketed, and with the number of vaccinated people rising, how much can the biotech continue to profit from its success in this market?
\n
However, there are good reasons to think Moderna's coronavirus vaccine-related tailwind isn't over. First, Moderna continues to seek (and earn) regulatory wins, both in the U.S. and abroad. Back in June, the company applied for an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its vaccine to be administered to adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18. Moderna submitted a similar application to regulatory authorities in Switzerland last month, and the company's vaccine recently earned an EUA in India.
\n

\n
\n
Second, the biotech continues to sign new supply deals for mRNA-1273. Moderna announced a supply agreement with the government of Argentina on June 12 for 20 million doses of mRNA-1273, while both the U.S. government and the European Commission have purchased millions of additional doses of the vaccine.
\n
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it still isn't clear how long mRNA-1273 provides immunity. During Moderna's first-quarter earnings conference call, CEO Stéphane Bancel said: \"we believe booster shots will be needed as we believe that the virus is not going away. We also believe from the scientific standpoint, that the highest efficacy booster over time will be provided by multivalent variant-specific booster.\"
\n
Moderna started evaluating booster candidates for its vaccine earlier this year. Meanwhile, Pfizer's CEO Albert Bourla has said that he believes demand for COVID-19 vaccines could become seasonal, much like the demand for flu vaccines. Of course, none of this is set in stone. The CDC and the FDA released a joint statement on July 8 saying that vaccinated Americans do not need booster shots right now.
\n
That may be true at the moment, but data from Pfizer has already strongly suggested that a booster dose administered six months post-vaccination produces higher antibodies titers in patients. This is important -- while Pfizer's vaccine remains effective after six months, its efficacy does seem to decrease.
\n
And with new variants like delta emerging, there are good reasons to think that a booster dose will eventually be needed for vaccinated people. Given these factors, it seems highly likely that Moderna will continue to benefit from its coronavirus vaccine financially, and its shares could still experience significant upside as a result.
\n
What else does Moderna have to offer?
\n
Beyond COVID-19, Moderna's mRNA vaccine platform shows huge potential. The company's pipeline currently boasts more than a dozen programs, most of which are potential vaccines against various infectious illnesses. In early July, the biotech started a phase 1/2 clinical trial for mRNA-1010, an investigational flu vaccine.
\n
The company argues that despite the wide availability of approved vaccines for the flu, this disease continues to cause serious health problems, in part because current vaccines are only 40% to 60% effective. Moderna is also looking to develop combination vaccines -- that is, vaccines that can confer immunity against more than one disease.
\n
There is no doubt the long-term opportunity is there for the company. As Moderna argues, of the more than 80 viruses discovered in the past 40 years, only 4% have commercially available vaccines in the U.S. The company thinks its mRNA approach to vaccination could help it create a raft of effective vaccines against some of these viruses.
\n
Not too late to get in
\n
There are two important reasons why it's not too late to buy shares of Moderna. First, the company will continue to benefit from its COVID-19 vaccine. Second, the biotech's long-term thesis (supported by the success of mRNA-1273) is attractive. The tables are starting to turn. Disney+ introduced a new series this week -- Behind the Attraction -- with every episode looking at the origin of popular theme park attractions.
\n
The stakes will be raised even higher when Jungle Cruise hits theaters next week. The film, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, is named and themed loosely for the classic pun-laden Disneyland boat ride.
\n

\n
\n
Behind the scenes
\n
This isn't the first time Disney has leaned on an iconic in-park experience as a content creator. The Pirates of the Caribbean swashbuckler-heavy boat ride has spawned the most successful theatrical franchise based on a theme park attraction, but Disney hasn't shied away from putting out films titled Country Bear Jamboree, Haunted Mansion, Mission to Mars, and Tower of Terror.
\n
Some of those flicks aren't particularly watchable, but the synergy is fairly obvious if things click. A blockbuster at the multiplex will draw visitors to Disneyland or Disney World, and the media giant won't have to invest in building a new ride to cash in on a hot movie.
\n
Next week's Jungle Cruise will be somewhat different. Disney has been investing in updating the attraction on both coasts. It's not necessarily the new film's arrival inspiring the tweaks. We're not getting audio-animatronics of Blunt and The Rock added to the watery attraction. The original Jungle Cruise ride had some elements that don't jibe with the woke new normal, joining Pirates of the Caribbean and eventually Splash Mountain as classic rides that are going for a more socially-aware makeover.
\n
Disney's ecosystem is difficult to top. It operates the world's most-visited theme parks. In 2019 it put out the country's six highest-grossing films. Its media empire is helmed by ABC, Disney Channel, and ESPN, and they give the House of Mouse a deep reach into homes. It's not just mere luck that the Disney+ streaming service would go on to top 100 million paying subscribers just months into its second year of availability. Put it all together and Disney is built to cash in on any property that spikes in popularity in any of its operating segments.
\n
The easiest connection is when Disney has a hit movie, a pond that is well stocked after making 10-figure acquisitions of Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm's Star Wars is the basis of themed lands at Disney's theme parks in Florida and California; it's the series that put Disney+ on the map, and a Star Wars-themed luxury escapism hotel will open next year at Disney World.
\n
The new Behind the Attraction show on Disney+ is smart. It gives the bellwether media stock promotional material that it can push out as content for the fast-growing service. If Jungle Cruise is a hit, it will be even smarter, especially if it's successful enough to warrant sequels that will keep demand humming for the theme park experience as well as incremental merchandising opportunities. Sometimes the best place to mine for content is in your own backyard.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Disney Rides Become the Feature Attractions
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nDisney Rides Become the Feature Attractions\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-23 22:34 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Walt Disney has made an art out of turning big theatrical releases into theme park rides and attractions. The film, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, is named and themed loosely for the classic pun-laden Disneyland boat ride.\n\nImage source: Disney.\nBehind the scenes\nThis isn't the first time Disney has leaned on an iconic in-park experience as a content creator. The Pirates of the Caribbean swashbuckler-heavy boat ride has spawned the most successful theatrical franchise based on a theme park attraction, but Disney hasn't shied away from putting out films titled Country Bear Jamboree, Haunted Mansion, Mission to Mars, and Tower of Terror.\nSome of those flicks aren't particularly watchable, but the synergy is fairly obvious if things click. A blockbuster at the multiplex will draw visitors to Disneyland or Disney World, and the media giant won't have to invest in building a new ride to cash in on a hot movie.\nNext week's Jungle Cruise will be somewhat different. Disney has been investing in updating the attraction on both coasts. It's not necessarily the new film's arrival inspiring the tweaks. We're not getting audio-animatronics of Blunt and The Rock added to the watery attraction. The original Jungle Cruise ride had some elements that don't jibe with the woke new normal, joining Pirates of the Caribbean and eventually Splash Mountain as classic rides that are going for a more socially-aware makeover.\nDisney's ecosystem is difficult to top. Put it all together and Disney is built to cash in on any property that spikes in popularity in any of its operating segments.\nThe easiest connection is when Disney has a hit movie, a pond that is well stocked after making 10-figure acquisitions of Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm's Star Wars is the basis of themed lands at Disney's theme parks in Florida and California; it's the series that put Disney+ on the map, and a Star Wars-themed luxury escapism hotel will open next year at Disney World.\nThe new Behind the Attraction show on Disney+ is smart. Sometimes the best place to mine for content is in your own backyard.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":197,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":174737613,"gmtCreate":1627138028132,"gmtModify":1631890082277,"author":{"id":"4089804427706730","authorId":"4089804427706730","name":"AllisGood","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ebbae86d9a5ba5e00ba116260f2dc1e7","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089804427706730","authorIdStr":"4089804427706730"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/174737613","repostId":"1151500518","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1151500518","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1627092269,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1151500518?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-24 10:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tencent was ordered to remove the exclusive copyright of online music","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1151500518","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"The China market supervision administration made an administrative punishment decision according to ","content":"
The China market supervision administration made an administrative punishment decision according to law, ordering Tencent and its affiliated companies to take measures to restore the state of market competition, such as canceling the exclusive music copyright within 30 days, stopping the payment of copyright fees such as high prepayment, and not requiring the upstream copyright party to give conditions superior to its competitors without justified reasons. A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first Call of Duty title was released, would be worth nearly $30,000 today.
\n
The Call of Duty franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.
\n
It pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. Electronic Arts
\n
Electronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably Madden and FIFA. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.
\n
Most importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched in 2019 and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings. EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous NCAA Football franchise under the new title EA Sports College Football, which should be released within the next few years.
\n
EA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work. So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic. These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's expansion into mobile.
\n
In fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year, which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.
\n
3. Tencent
\n
Tencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.
\n
Gaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. It's the diversity of revenue streams across fast-growing markets, including gaming and cloud services, that make it a stock worth keeping on your radar.
\n
Over the last four quarters, Tencent generated $18.5 billion in free cash flow. It has $39 billion of dry powder on the balance sheet, in addition to a portfolio of investees that was worth over $200 billion in the first quarter. That's a lot of firepower.
\n
Tencent compares the current state of the video game industry to the movie business in the 1930s, and it's investing to maintain its leadership status. Last year, management announced a deep pipeline of 40 new titles, including internally developed and licensed games in development. It's particularly focusing on where gamers are spending more time, which is with big-budget, immersive gaming experiences.
\n
\"The development speed, scale, range, and depth of information technology is much greater than the last Industrial Revolution,\" said Senior Vice President Steven Ma. \"This brings unimaginable opportunities for games and the space is almost limitless.\"
\n
However, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. Tencent has come under scrutiny by regulators that have cracked down on \"inappropriate\" content in the company's games, but Tencent has been able to navigate through these obstacles and deliver market-beating returns to investors. The stock price has fallen recently, which can be chalked up to regulatory issues and near-term investments in the business that will pressure profitability this year. But I would look at the recent drop in share price as a buying opportunity.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Best Video Game Stocks to Buy in the Next Market Crash
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Best Video Game Stocks to Buy in the Next Market Crash\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-24 09:46 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The bulls in the market have been stomping on the bears for more than a year, but history shows that stock prices don't move up in a straight line. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.\n3. Tencent\nTencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.\nGaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. It's the diversity of revenue streams across fast-growing markets, including gaming and cloud services, that make it a stock worth keeping on your radar.\nOver the last four quarters, Tencent generated $18.5 billion in free cash flow. It has $39 billion of dry powder on the balance sheet, in addition to a portfolio of investees that was worth over $200 billion in the first quarter. That's a lot of firepower.\nTencent compares the current state of the video game industry to the movie business in the 1930s, and it's investing to maintain its leadership status. Last year, management announced a deep pipeline of 40 new titles, including internally developed and licensed games in development. It's particularly focusing on where gamers are spending more time, which is with big-budget, immersive gaming experiences.\n\"The development speed, scale, range, and depth of information technology is much greater than the last Industrial Revolution,\" said Senior Vice President Steven Ma. \"This brings unimaginable opportunities for games and the space is almost limitless.\"\nHowever, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. But I would look at the recent drop in share price as a buying opportunity.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":302,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":178211034,"gmtCreate":1626823291328,"gmtModify":1631890082286,"author":{"id":"4089804427706730","authorId":"4089804427706730","name":"AllisGood","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ebbae86d9a5ba5e00ba116260f2dc1e7","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089804427706730","authorIdStr":"4089804427706730"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/178211034","repostId":"1177437175","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1177437175","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1626791614,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1177437175?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-20 22:33","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Stocks That Hit 52-Week Lows On Tuesday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1177437175","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Before 10 a.m. ET Tuesday, 64 stocks made new 52-week lows.\nKey Facts:\n\nTotalEnergies(NYSE:TTE) was ","content":"
Before 10 a.m. ET Tuesday, 64 stocks made new 52-week lows.
\n
Key Facts:
\n
\n
TotalEnergies(NYSE:TTE) was the largest, in terms of market cap, to set a new 52-week low.
\n
The company with the smallest market cap to set a new 52-week low wasSonoma Pharmaceuticals(NASDAQ:SNOA).
\n
Ardelyx(NASDAQ:ARDX) made the largest move down on the session, with shares plummeting 75.24% to reach its 52-week low.
\n
\n
Here is a list of stocks that set new 52-week lows during the first half-hour of trading on Tuesday:
\n
\n
TotalEnergies(NYSE:TTE) shares set a new 52-week low of $40.33.

Market corrections are par for the course when investing in stocks, but that same history shows these downturns lay the foundation for great returns afterward.
\n
If you've been thinking about buying shares of a video game stock, the next market pullback would be a great buying opportunity. Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA), and Tencent (OTC:TCEHY) are cash-rich leaders in the burgeoning video game industry that can deliver market-beating returns over the long term. Let's find out a bit more about these three stocks.
\n
\n
1. Activision Blizzard
\n
Activision Blizzard owns eight franchises that have achieved at least $1 billion in lifetime bookings. It's best known for making one of the most-played first-person shooters on the market in Call of Duty.
With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.
\n
Making big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.
\n
It pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.
\n
Activision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet, which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.
\n
\n
However, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. Market corrections are par for the course when investing in stocks, but that same history shows these downturns lay the foundation for great returns afterward.\nIf you've been thinking about buying shares of a video game stock, the next market pullback would be a great buying opportunity. Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA), and Tencent (OTC:TCEHY) are cash-rich leaders in the burgeoning video game industry that can deliver market-beating returns over the long term. Let's find out a bit more about these three stocks.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Activision Blizzard\nActivision Blizzard owns eight franchises that have achieved at least $1 billion in lifetime bookings. It's best known for making one of the most-played first-person shooters on the market in Call of Duty. A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first Call of Duty title was released, would be worth nearly $30,000 today.\nThe Call of Duty franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter. With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.\nMaking big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.\nIt pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.\nActivision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet, which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.\n2. Electronic Arts\nElectronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably Madden and FIFA. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.\nMost importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched in 2019 and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings. EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous NCAA Football franchise under the new title EA Sports College Football, which should be released within the next few years.\nEA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work. So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic. These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's expansion into mobile.\nIn fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year, which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.\n3. Tencent\nTencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.\nGaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. It's the diversity of revenue streams across fast-growing markets, including gaming and cloud services, that make it a stock worth keeping on your radar.\nOver the last four quarters, Tencent generated $18.5 billion in free cash flow. It has $39 billion of dry powder on the balance sheet, in addition to a portfolio of investees that was worth over $200 billion in the first quarter. That's a lot of firepower.\nTencent compares the current state of the video game industry to the movie business in the 1930s, and it's investing to maintain its leadership status. Last year, management announced a deep pipeline of 40 new titles, including internally developed and licensed games in development. It's particularly focusing on where gamers are spending more time, which is with big-budget, immersive gaming experiences.\n\"The development speed, scale, range, and depth of information technology is much greater than the last Industrial Revolution,\" said Senior Vice President Steven Ma. \"This brings unimaginable opportunities for games and the space is almost limitless.\"\nHowever, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. Tencent has come under scrutiny by regulators that have cracked down on \"inappropriate\" content in the company's games, but Tencent has been able to navigate through these obstacles and deliver market-beating returns to investors. The stock price has fallen recently, which can be chalked up to regulatory issues and near-term investments in the business that will pressure profitability this year. But I would look at the recent drop in share price as a buying opportunity.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":302,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":178211034,"gmtCreate":1626823291328,"gmtModify":1631890082286,"author":{"id":"4089804427706730","authorId":"4089804427706730","name":"AllisGood","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ebbae86d9a5ba5e00ba116260f2dc1e7","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089804427706730","authorIdStr":"4089804427706730"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/178211034","repostId":"1177437175","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":257,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":178232960,"gmtCreate":1626823026150,"gmtModify":1631890082284,"author":{"id":"4089804427706730","authorId":"4089804427706730","name":"AllisGood","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ebbae86d9a5ba5e00ba116260f2dc1e7","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089804427706730","authorIdStr":"4089804427706730"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[财迷] ","listText":"[财迷] ","text":"[财迷]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/178232960","repostId":"1155810329","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":629,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
