On Monday, the benchmark <b>S&amp;P 500</b> suffered its worst single-session decline in months, raising speculation, once again, that a correction or crash may be around the corner.</p>\n<p>If we turn to history as a guide, a double-digit percentage decline is likely long overdue. For instance, in each of the previous four instances where the S&amp;P 500's Shiller price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio surpassed 30, the index subsequently declined by at least 20%. The S&amp;P 500's Shiller P/E ratio topped 38 last week -- it's highest reading in almost two decades.</p>\n<p>History has also been pretty clear that rebounds from a bear market bottom are never this smooth. If this latest bout of volatility leads to a long overdue crash or correction, consider buying the following seven winning stocks hand over fist.</p>\n<h3>CrowdStrike Holdings</h3>\n<p>You know what doesn't change one iota when the market crashes? The demand for cybersecurity solutions. That's why any discount you can get on cybersecurity stock <b>CrowdStrike Holdings</b> (NASDAQ:CRWD) should be considered a blessing.</p>\n<p>CrowdStrike's cloud-native Falcon platform is its superstar. It oversees approximately 6 trillion events weekly and uses artificial intelligence to become more efficient at identifying and responding to threats over time. Because Falcon was built in the cloud, it's usually nimbler than on-premises security solutions, and more cost-effective, as well.</p>\n<p>CrowdStrike's operating results clearly show that its customers love the product. It's retaining 98% of its clients, and 64% of its customers purchased four or more cloud-module subscriptions in the most recent quarter. For some context, four years ago, only 9% of its clients had four or more cloud-module subscriptions. CrowdStrike is a no-brainer buy on weakness.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/18e95ac40519653b9c28e665ae1a6df7\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"467\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Home Depot.</p>\n<h3>Home Depot</h3>\n<p>If brand-name stocks are more your thing, a stock market crash or steep correction has historically always been a smart time to load up your cart with shares of do-it-yourself home-improvement chain <b>Home Depot</b> (NYSE:HD).</p>\n<p>The great thing about Home Depot is that it can play both sides of the fence. If the U.S economy is firing on all cylinders, there's a good chance sales to commercial clients and contractors will be strong.</p>\n<p>Comparatively, when economic uncertainty becomes an issue, we've often witnessed homeowners become Home Depot's driving force via remodels and projects. The company is surprisingly well-hedged for virtually all economic scenarios.</p>\n<p>Investors should also note that Home Depot has invested aggressively in digitization. Though brick and mortar remains the core sales driver, Home Depot has seen a big uptick in digital sales over the past couple of years. Should a crash or correction occur, mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT) <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AGNCM\">AGNC Investment Corp</a>.</b> (NASDAQ:AGNC) and its 9% dividend yield would be ripe for the picking.</p>\n<p>Mortgage REITs are companies that borrow money at lower short-term rates to buy assets with higher long-term yields, such as mortgage-backed securities. The difference between the yields they receive on their owned assets minus their borrowing rate is known as the net interest margin.</p>\n<p>Typically, the bond yield curve steepens during the early stages of an economic recovery, which is where we are now. When that happens, it's pretty common for mortgage REITs to see their net interest margin expand.</p>\n<p>What's more, AGNC Investment's asset portfolio is almost entirely devoted to agency assets -- i.e., securities backed by the federal government in the event of a default. That's why pharmaceutical stock <b>Bristol Myers Squibb</b> (NYSE:BMY) would make for the perfect buy.</p>\n<p>Bristol Myers made one heck of a splash when it acquired cancer and immunology drug developer Celgene in 2019. Celgene's leading cancer drug, Revlimid, has grown sales annually by a double-digit percentage for over a decade, and the company has benefited from strong pricing power, label expansion opportunities, and longer duration of use. Revlimid brought in more than $12 billion for Bristol Myers last year and is protected from a flood of generics until early 2026.</p>\n<p>However, Bristol Myers Squibb isn't just relying on acquisitions to get the job done. Eliquis has become the unquestioned global oral anticoagulant therapy of choice, and cancer immunotherapy Opdivo brought in about $7 billion in sales in 2020. With Opdivo being examined in dozens of ongoing clinical trials, label expansion opportunities offer plenty of promise.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f0b7d2c00802511f18a779a33e17e079\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"525\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Getty Images.</p>\n<h3>NextEra Energy</h3>\n<p>Another defensive stock that can be confidently bought hand over fist during a stock market crash or steep short-term decline is electric utility <b>NextEra Energy</b> (NYSE:NEE).</p>\n<p>Most utility stocks are slow-growing business that rely on the predictability of demand for their services. This is what makes them solid dividend stocks and a good bet to outpace the prevailing U.S. inflation rate more years than not. What makes NextEra so special is its focus on alternative energy.</p>\n<p>NextEra is putting between $50 billion and $55 billion to work on predominantly green-energy projects between 2020 and 2022 and is the leading utility by solar and wind capacity in the country. Leaning on renewable energy has driven down electric-generation costs and pushed the company's growth rate to the high single digits for more than a decade.</p>\n<p>Keep in mind that NextEra's traditional utility operations (i.e., those not powered by wind or solar) are regulated. Though the company can't pass along price hikes whenever it wants to, it has no exposure to potentially volatile wholesale-electricity pricing. In other words, people keep buying weed, no matter how well or poor the economy is performing. That means a crash would mark an excellent opportunity to buy U.S. multistate operator <b>Green Thumb Industries</b> (OTC:GTBIF).</p>\n<p>Green Thumb currently has 59 operating dispensaries and 110 total retail licenses in 13 legalized states. It's been particularly picky about the states it's chosen to operate in and has focused on states where license issuance is capped by regulators. This will minimize the number of competitors it's up against.</p>\n<p>The real secret to Green Thumb's success, and why it's been able to turn the corner to recurring profitability, is the healthy amount of revenue generated from derivatives, such as vapes, oils, and edibles. Derivatives are far less likely to face oversupply concerns, relative to dried cannabis flower, and they produce superior margins. Suffice to say, Green Thumb can show opportunistic investors the green if bought during a crash.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2c3c5ad9d1e66b5cc533e681283d4790\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>Image source: U.S. Bank (U.S. Bancorp is its parent company).</p>\n<h3>U.S. Bancorp</h3>\n<p>A final company to buy hand over fist is regional banking giant <b>U.S. Bancorp</b> (NYSE:USB).</p>\n<p>Even though bank stocks tend to get hammered during crashes or corrections, U.S. Bancorp has proved time and again that it's in a class of its own among big banks. It consistently offers one of the highest return on assets, and its conservative management team has kept the company from chasing after risky derivative investments that have previously crippled money-center banks. Perhaps it's no surprise that it also offers one of the juiciest U.S. big-bank dividend yields at 3.4%.</p>\n<p>Arguably even more important to U.S. Bancorp's success has been its ability to coerce its customers to bank digitally. In the May-ended quarter, 80% of all transactions were completed digitally, which included just shy of two-thirds of all loan sales. The more its customers embrace digital banking, the more branches the company can close. What makes NextEra so special is its focus on alternative energy.\nNextEra is putting between $50 billion and $55 billion to work on predominantly green-energy projects between 2020 and 2022 and is the leading utility by solar and wind capacity in the country. Leaning on renewable energy has driven down electric-generation costs and pushed the company's growth rate to the high single digits for more than a decade.\nKeep in mind that NextEra's traditional utility operations (i.e., those not powered by wind or solar) are regulated. Though the company can't pass along price hikes whenever it wants to, it has no exposure to potentially volatile wholesale-electricity pricing. In other words, people keep buying weed, no matter how well or poor the economy is performing. That means a crash would mark an excellent opportunity to buy U.S. multistate operator Green Thumb Industries (OTC:GTBIF).\nGreen Thumb currently has 59 operating dispensaries and 110 total retail licenses in 13 legalized states. It's been particularly picky about the states it's chosen to operate in and has focused on states where license issuance is capped by regulators. This will minimize the number of competitors it's up against.\nThe real secret to Green Thumb's success, and why it's been able to turn the corner to recurring profitability, is the healthy amount of revenue generated from derivatives, such as vapes, oils, and edibles. Derivatives are far less likely to face oversupply concerns, relative to dried cannabis flower, and they produce superior margins. It consistently offers one of the highest return on assets, and its conservative management team has kept the company from chasing after risky derivative investments that have previously crippled money-center banks. Perhaps it's no surprise that it also offers one of the juiciest U.S. big-bank dividend yields at 3.4%.\nArguably even more important to U.S. Bancorp's success has been its ability to coerce its customers to bank digitally. In the May-ended quarter, 80% of all transactions were completed digitally, which included just shy of two-thirds of all loan sales. The more its customers embrace digital banking, the more branches the company can close. And among these companies, Planet 13 Holdings arguably has <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the most innovative business models.</p>\n<p>The company isn't content with selling cannabis products. Instead, Planet 13 offers its customers a whole experience in its superstore, located on the popular Las Vegas Strip. Cannabis enthusiasts can witness firsthand the company's cannabis production process, purchase various marijuana products, and relax in the restaurant located right inside.</p>\n<p>With a growing number of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19, foot traffic and tourism in Las Vegas are picking up, and Planet 13 is benefiting. The pot company reported record monthly revenue of $9.7 million in March. It went on to beat that record in April when it racked up $10.7 million in revenue. It beat that record once again in May with monthly revenue of $11.2 million.</p>\n<p>Planet 13 recently opened another superstore in California, the largest U.S. state by population. The company has ambitions to open more of these cannabis-focused entertainment complexes in major cities in the U.S., including <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NWY\">New York</a> <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CHCO\">City</a>, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WASH\">Washington</a> D.C., and Miami.</p>\n<p>This master plan isn't guaranteed to work. The cannabis industry in the U.S. is very competitive, with several companies expanding their footprints across more than a dozen states. Some of these companies generate quarterly revenue and profits much higher than those of Planet 13. Also, opening these new stores in other states will cost money, and will come with additional expenses once they are operational.</p>\n<p>Management's goal of opening more than eight new superstores in the next five years might be doable, and the company is betting that these stores will see the same success as the <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> in Las Vegas -- which is by no means a sure bet. In a phase 2b study, the results of which Cassava Sciences announced in September 2020, simufilam was shown to improve several biomarkers of AD in patients with the disease.</p>\n<p>According to the company, \"the ability to improve&nbsp;multiple biomarkers from distinct biological pathways with one drug has never been shown before in patients with Alzheimer's disease.\" In early February the company also announced results of an interim analysis of an open-label study for simufilam. The medicine successfully improved AD patients' cognition and behavior.</p>\n<p>Even though these results are encouraging in and of themselves, investors have also taken interest in Cassava Sciences because of the recent controversial approval of <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/BIIB\">Biogen</a></b>'s AD drug Aduhelm. Simufilam doesn't work the same way as Aduhelm -- the latter focuses on removing amyloid plaques in the brain (some experts believe the buildup of the beta-amyloid protein is one of the causes of the disease). Meanwhile, simufilam is designed to restore the normal shape and function of filamin A, a protein in the brain which, in an altered form, is thought to be linked to AD.</p>\n<p>So what makes Cassava Sciences a risky stock to buy?</p>\n<p>Before the approval of Biogen's Aduhelm, there have been a long list of failed attempts at developing successful treatments for AD -- and some of these potential medicines had also produced great results in phase 2 studies. Aduhelm became the first AD drug approved since 2003. And even then, some experts believe this decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was a bad one.</p>\n<p>At least three members of an independent panel convened last year by the regulatory body to discuss Aduhelm have resigned from their roles following the drug's approval. Potential failure from clinical trials is always a risk biotech investors have to worry about. But in this case, the risk seems significantly higher than normal -- though&nbsp;that also means the potential rewards could be huge.</p>\n<p>Cassava Sciences said it would initiate a phase 3 study for its lead candidate in the second half of the year. The trial will \"evaluate disease-modifying effects of simufilam in Alzheimer's disease.\" Results could come in sometime next year. If they are positive, expect Cassava Sciences shares to soar. Cases, hospitalizations and deaths have begun to rise.</p>\n<p>It is tempting to imagine the Delta variant won’t dent the economy at all.</p>\n<p>Across the board, state and local officials seem far less apt to dial up restrictions in response to rising Covid-19 cases than they were a year ago, while the places with low vaccine uptake also happen to be the places that are most resistant to restrictions. Moreover, many people are vaccinated—particularly the elderly—and with the apparent efficacy of current vaccines against the Delta variant, the U.S. seems unlikely to revisit the staggering mortality statistics of the sort it experienced before vaccines became widely available. Finally, the savings many Americans built up over the past year left them with ample money to throw around, while businesses’ scramble for workers points to a labor market that should keep generating income gains.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/dc6f808b2d4e2353d6504f76af7f3af0\" tg-width=\"737\" tg-height=\"511\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\">Those are all things that should ensure the economy continues to grow, but it probably won’t grow as swiftly as it otherwise could have. Worries about the Delta variant will lead some people to refrain from entering crowded settings, such as restaurants or airplanes, while also making them more cautious about spending down any savings. Some companieswill delay their return to the office, as Apple just did, and that will hurt downtown restaurants and the like that depend on office workers’ business.</p>\n<p>Bear in mind that the places where vaccine hesitancy is high and Covid-19 worries low aren’t monolithic: Some share of the population will up their caution, in some cases even if they are fully vaccinated for fear of a breakthrough infection. And the more new cases there are in their communities, the more cautious they will become.</p>\n<p>Nor are places where vaccination rates are better necessarily going to avoid the fallout from the contagious Delta variant. Around 72% of the 18 and over population of Los Angeles County have received at least once shot, more than the country at large, yet with case rates and hospitalizations rising, last week it reinstatedan order to wear masks indoorsin businesses and public places.</p>\n<p>Then there is the question of what the start of the coming school year might look like. Children under the age of 12 aren’t eligible for vaccination, and authorization for children between 5 and 11 looks as if it won’t comeuntil sometime in the fall, at the earliest. Most schools intend to return to in-person classes, with some offering remote options, but the Delta variant could upend some of those plans.</p>\n<p>At the very least parents might need to prepare for the possibility of a positive Covid test shutting down a classroom, leaving their children, and them, stuck at home. Strategists at Evercore ISI point out that the return to school this fall was supposed to free parents for work, boosting the labor supply. But some of the job growth and easing of hiring strains that could create might now be deferred.</p>\n<p>The economy has been growing since April last year—a point brought home by the National Bureau of Economic Research’srecent determinationthat that was when the brief, severe recession the pandemic brought on ended. But the ad campaign almost never happened.</p>\n<p>Aflac CEO Dan Amos tells Yahoo Finance in a recent interview that he was \"very reluctant\" to go forward with the ad because it risked making light of the company's name. But the ad made Aflac a household name, exploded sales, and was soon released by the company's Japan operation to similar effect, he said.</p>\n<p>\"The advertising agency that we had was sitting on a park bench in New York City, and heard the ducks quacking, and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of them said, 'That is what we need to go for,'\" Amos said. \"I said that I would never do it — at that time you didn't have the Geico ads, you didn't have all of the other ads.\".</p>\n<p>\"We took a big chance making fun of our name, because you're not just doing it, you're actually making fun of your name,\"he says. \"And yet, it forever changed our life and doubled our business in three years in the U.S.\"</p>\n<p>The duck even got the job over actor Ray Romano, then a major TV star on \"Everybody Loves Raymond,\" who taped a test commercial with Aflac.</p>\n<p>\"It tested an 18 — 50% better than anything we had ever tested,\" Amos says. \"The Aflac Duck tested a 27. And among these companies, Planet 13 Holdings arguably has <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the most innovative business models.</p>\n<p>The company isn't content with selling cannabis products. Instead, Planet 13 offers its customers a whole experience in its superstore, located on the popular Las Vegas Strip. Cannabis enthusiasts can witness firsthand the company's cannabis production process, purchase various marijuana products, and relax in the restaurant located right inside.</p>\n<p>With a growing number of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19, foot traffic and tourism in Las Vegas are picking up, and Planet 13 is benefiting. The pot company reported record monthly revenue of $9.7 million in March. It went on to beat that record in April when it racked up $10.7 million in revenue. It beat that record once again in May with monthly revenue of $11.2 million.</p>\n<p>Planet 13 recently opened another superstore in California, the largest U.S. state by population. The company has ambitions to open more of these cannabis-focused entertainment complexes in major cities in the U.S., including <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NWY\">New York</a> <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CHCO\">City</a>, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WASH\">Washington</a> D.C., and Miami.</p>\n<p>This master plan isn't guaranteed to work. The cannabis industry in the U.S. is very competitive, with several companies expanding their footprints across more than a dozen states. Some of these companies generate quarterly revenue and profits much higher than those of Planet 13. Also, opening these new stores in other states will cost money, and will come with additional expenses once they are operational.</p>\n<p>Management's goal of opening more than eight new superstores in the next five years might be doable, and the company is betting that these stores will see the same success as the <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> in Las Vegas -- which is by no means a sure bet. In a phase 2b study, the results of which Cassava Sciences announced in September 2020, simufilam was shown to improve several biomarkers of AD in patients with the disease.</p>\n<p>According to the company, \"the ability to improve&nbsp;multiple biomarkers from distinct biological pathways with one drug has never been shown before in patients with Alzheimer's disease.\" In early February the company also announced results of an interim analysis of an open-label study for simufilam. The medicine successfully improved AD patients' cognition and behavior.</p>\n<p>Even though these results are encouraging in and of themselves, investors have also taken interest in Cassava Sciences because of the recent controversial approval of <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/BIIB\">Biogen</a></b>'s AD drug Aduhelm. That doesn’t mean it can’t damage parts of it.</p>\n<p>For a while, America’s progress against the Covid-19 pandemic looked very good. Millions of people were getting vaccinated each day, Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths were falling, and a return to something like normal beckoned. But then the vaccine rollout slowed markedly just as the far more contagiousDelta variant took hold. Cases, hospitalizations and deaths have begun to rise.</p>\n<p>It is tempting to imagine the Delta variant won’t dent the economy at all.</p>\n<p>Across the board, state and local officials seem far less apt to dial up restrictions in response to rising Covid-19 cases than they were a year ago, while the places with low vaccine uptake also happen to be the places that are most resistant to restrictions. Moreover, many people are vaccinated—particularly the elderly—and with the apparent efficacy of current vaccines against the Delta variant, the U.S. seems unlikely to revisit the staggering mortality statistics of the sort it experienced before vaccines became widely available. Finally, the savings many Americans built up over the past year left them with ample money to throw around, while businesses’ scramble for workers points to a labor market that should keep generating income gains.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/dc6f808b2d4e2353d6504f76af7f3af0\" tg-width=\"737\" tg-height=\"511\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\">Those are all things that should ensure the economy continues to grow, but it probably won’t grow as swiftly as it otherwise could have. Worries about the Delta variant will lead some people to refrain from entering crowded settings, such as restaurants or airplanes, while also making them more cautious about spending down any savings. Some companieswill delay their return to the office, as Apple just did, and that will hurt downtown restaurants and the like that depend on office workers’ business.</p>\n<p>Bear in mind that the places where vaccine hesitancy is high and Covid-19 worries low aren’t monolithic: Some share of the population will up their caution, in some cases even if they are fully vaccinated for fear of a breakthrough infection. And the more new cases there are in their communities, the more cautious they will become.</p>\n<p>Nor are places where vaccination rates are better necessarily going to avoid the fallout from the contagious Delta variant. Around 72% of the 18 and over population of Los Angeles County have received at least once shot, more than the country at large, yet with case rates and hospitalizations rising, last week it reinstatedan order to wear masks indoorsin businesses and public places.</p>\n<p>Then there is the question of what the start of the coming school year might look like. Children under the age of 12 aren’t eligible for vaccination, and authorization for children between 5 and 11 looks as if it won’t comeuntil sometime in the fall, at the earliest. Most schools intend to return to in-person classes, with some offering remote options, but the Delta variant could upend some of those plans.</p>\n<p>At the very least parents might need to prepare for the possibility of a positive Covid test shutting down a classroom, leaving their children, and them, stuck at home. Strategists at Evercore ISI point out that the return to school this fall was supposed to free parents for work, boosting the labor supply. But some of the job growth and easing of hiring strains that could create might now be deferred.</p>\n<p>The economy has been growing since April last year—a point brought home by the National Bureau of Economic Research’srecent determinationthat that was when the brief, severe recession the pandemic brought on ended. It kept growing despite a new surge in Covid-19 infections last summer and another wave in the late fall through winter. That doesn’t mean it can’t damage parts of it.\nFor a while, America’s progress against the Covid-19 pandemic looked very good. Millions of people were getting vaccinated each day, Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths were falling, and a return to something like normal beckoned. But then the vaccine rollout slowed markedly just as the far more contagiousDelta variant took hold. Cases, hospitalizations and deaths have begun to rise.\nIt is tempting to imagine the Delta variant won’t dent the economy at all.\nAcross the board, state and local officials seem far less apt to dial up restrictions in response to rising Covid-19 cases than they were a year ago, while the places with low vaccine uptake also happen to be the places that are most resistant to restrictions. Moreover, many people are vaccinated—particularly the elderly—and with the apparent efficacy of current vaccines against the Delta variant, the U.S. seems unlikely to revisit the staggering mortality statistics of the sort it experienced before vaccines became widely available. Finally, the savings many Americans built up over the past year left them with ample money to throw around, while businesses’ scramble for workers points to a labor market that should keep generating income gains.\nThose are all things that should ensure the economy continues to grow, but it probably won’t grow as swiftly as it otherwise could have. Worries about the Delta variant will lead some people to refrain from entering crowded settings, such as restaurants or airplanes, while also making them more cautious about spending down any savings. Some companieswill delay their return to the office, as Apple just did, and that will hurt downtown restaurants and the like that depend on office workers’ business.\nBear in mind that the places where vaccine hesitancy is high and Covid-19 worries low aren’t monolithic: Some share of the population will up their caution, in some cases even if they are fully vaccinated for fear of a breakthrough infection. And the more new cases there are in their communities, the more cautious they will become.\nNor are places where vaccination rates are better necessarily going to avoid the fallout from the contagious Delta variant. Around 72% of the 18 and over population of Los Angeles County have received at least once shot, more than the country at large, yet with case rates and hospitalizations rising, last week it reinstatedan order to wear masks indoorsin businesses and public places.\nThen there is the question of what the start of the coming school year might look like. Children under the age of 12 aren’t eligible for vaccination, and authorization for children between 5 and 11 looks as if it won’t comeuntil sometime in the fall, at the earliest. Most schools intend to return to in-person classes, with some offering remote options, but the Delta variant could upend some of those plans.\nAt the very least parents might need to prepare for the possibility of a positive Covid test shutting down a classroom, leaving their children, and them, stuck at home. Strategists at Evercore ISI point out that the return to school this fall was supposed to free parents for work, boosting the labor supply. But some of the job growth and easing of hiring strains that could create might now be deferred.\nThe economy has been growing since April last year—a point brought home by the National Bureau of Economic Research’srecent determinationthat that was when the brief, severe recession the pandemic brought on ended. It kept growing despite a new surge in Covid-19 infections last summer and another wave in the late fall through winter.
