IPO","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2178230669","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Chipmaker GlobalFoundries Inc. and major shareholder Mubadala Investment Co. raised almost $2.6 bill","content":"
Chipmaker GlobalFoundries Inc. and major shareholder Mubadala Investment Co. raised almost $2.6 billion in an initial public offering, pricing its shares at the top of a marketed range.
\n
The company and Mubadala sold 55 million shares Wednesday for $47 each after marketing them for $42 to $47, the company said.
\n
At $47 a share, GlobalFoundries has a market value of more than $25 billion based on the outstanding shares listed in its filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
\n
The listing is the third biggest on a U.S. exchange this year, topped only by South Korean ecommerce firm Coupang Inc.’s $4.55 billion IPO and Chinese ride-hailing company DiDi Global Inc.’s $4.44 billion raise, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
\n
GlobalFoundries planned to sell 33 million shares while Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala was to sell 22 million shares, according to its filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Mubadala will control more than 89% of the company’s shares after the IPO.
\n
Funds managed by BlackRock Inc., Columbia Management Investment Advisers, Fidelity Management, an affiliate of Koch Industries Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. also indicated interest buying a combined $1.05 billion of the shares in the offering as cornerstone investors, the filings show.
\n
Silver Lake separately agreed to purchase $75 million of stock in a concurrent private placement at the IPO price.
\n
The chipmaker was created by purchasing the manufacturing operations of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. in 2009 and later combining it with Singapore’s Chartered Semiconductor. Mubadala was planning for the business to be valued in a listing at around $30 billion, Bloomberg News reported in July.
\n
Chip Shortage
\n
GlobalFoundries is appealing to public-market investors as interest in the semiconductor industry hits an all-time high. Shortages caused by a surge in demand for electronics during coronavirus pandemic lockdowns and insufficient supply have made chip factories more valuable to the economy.
\n
For the first half of the year, GlobalFoundries had a net loss of $301 million on revenue of about $3 billion, compared with a loss of $534 million on $2.7 billion in revenue a year earlier, according to the filings.
\n
Contract chipmakers like GlobalFoundries fabricate semiconductors for large technology companies such as Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Samsung Electronics Co. currently dominate the market, and Intel Corp. has ambitions to become a bigger force in that area too.
\n
GlobalFoundries previously gave up on the kind of leading-edge production that would match the capabilities of Taiwan Semiconductor or Samsung. Instead, it’s serving the market for less advanced chips, which are increasingly critical to carmakers and other industries.
\n
The IPO is being led by Morgan Stanley, $Bank of America Corp(BAC-N)$., JPMorgan Chase & Co., $Citigroup Inc(C-N)$. and Credit Suisse Group AG. The company’s shares are expected to begin trading Thursday on the Nasdaq under the symbol GFS.
","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Mubadala will control more than 89% of the company’s shares after the IPO.\nFunds managed by BlackRock Inc., Columbia Management Investment Advisers, Fidelity Management, an affiliate of Koch Industries Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. also indicated interest buying a combined $1.05 billion of the shares in the offering as cornerstone investors, the filings show.\nSilver Lake separately agreed to purchase $75 million of stock in a concurrent private placement at the IPO price.\nThe chipmaker was created by purchasing the manufacturing operations of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. in 2009 and later combining it with Singapore’s Chartered Semiconductor. Mubadala was planning for the business to be valued in a listing at around $30 billion, Bloomberg News reported in July.\nChip Shortage\nGlobalFoundries is appealing to public-market investors as interest in the semiconductor industry hits an all-time high. Shortages caused by a surge in demand for electronics during coronavirus pandemic lockdowns and insufficient supply have made chip factories more valuable to the economy.\nFor the first half of the year, GlobalFoundries had a net loss of $301 million on revenue of about $3 billion, compared with a loss of $534 million on $2.7 billion in revenue a year earlier, according to the filings.\nContract chipmakers like GlobalFoundries fabricate semiconductors for large technology companies such as Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Samsung Electronics Co. currently dominate the market, and Intel Corp. has ambitions to become a bigger force in that area too.\nGlobalFoundries previously gave up on the kind of leading-edge production that would match the capabilities of Taiwan Semiconductor or Samsung. Instead, it’s serving the market for less advanced chips, which are increasingly critical to carmakers and other industries.\nThe IPO is being led by Morgan Stanley, $Bank of America Corp(BAC-N)$., JPMorgan Chase & Co., $Citigroup Inc(C-N)$. and Credit Suisse Group AG. The company’s shares are expected to begin trading Thursday on the Nasdaq under the symbol GFS.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":255,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":855566268,"gmtCreate":1635384076594,"gmtModify":1635384076594,"author":{"id":"3582854716649311","authorId":"3582854716649311","name":"dadaho","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$THAI BEVERAGE PUBLIC CO LTD(Y92.SI)$Buy","listText":"$THAI BEVERAGE PUBLIC CO LTD(Y92.SI)$Buy","text":"$THAI BEVERAGE PUBLIC CO LTD(Y92.SI)$Buy","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a7c7f9c628506bbbb86d2e0bb5817b06","width":"1080","height":"2509"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/855566268","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":384,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":855568421,"gmtCreate":1635384018367,"gmtModify":1635384018367,"author":{"id":"3582854716649311","authorId":"3582854716649311","name":"dadaho","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Of course he'll say that","listText":"Of course he'll say that","text":"Of course he'll say that","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/855568421","repostId":"2178237224","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2178237224","pubTimestamp":1635380803,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2178237224?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-28 08:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Elon Musk Says Taxing Billionaires Won’t Ease Debt Burden","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2178237224","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Elon Musk, the richest person in the world with a net worth of around $292 billion, said taxing bill","content":"
Elon Musk, the richest person in the world with a net worth of around $292 billion, said taxing billionaires would only make a “small dent” toward paying off the U.S. national debt, arguing that the focus should be on government spending.
\n
“Spending is the real problem,” Musk said Wednesday in a tweet that also included a link to an online clock that estimates the country’s debt. This occurs when an investor sells a stock at loss in order to offset capital gains realized earlier in the year and on which capital gains tax would otherwise be due. Such selling needs to be completed before Dec. 31 in order to reduce 2021 taxes.
\n
To appreciate the big role that tax-loss selling plays as the new year approaches, consider the performance of a hypothetical portfolio containing the 10% of U.S. stocks with the lowest trailing-12 month returns, rebalanced monthly. If you’re not a short-term trader, then the takeaway is that you should prepare for extra market volatility over the next two months. Resist the inclination to dump a stock because of artificial selling pressure having nothing to do with its fundamentals.
\n
For traders and short-term investors, there’s a separate investment implication — profit from others’ tax-loss selling. As the chart also shows, the stocks most punished by this selling tend to bounce back sharply in January. That makes sense, because tax-loss selling ends on Dec. 31; in January a huge weight is lifted off these already-beleaguered stocks, and many perform strongly.
\n
With that in mind, I constructed a list of stocks with attractive longer-term prospects that are also losers for the year through Oct. 22. There’s a good chance that tax-loss selling will significantly depress their returns between now and the end of the year, enabling traders to pick up a few of them at bargain prices.
\n
You might consider placing buy limits well-below the current market on a basket of them, in hopes that a couple of them get filled. If history is any guide, these stocks stand a good chance of rebounding significantly in January.
\n
To construct the table below, I started with a list of stocks in the S&P 1500 index that were losers through the close of trading on Oct. 22. It has now rocketed 35.9% since it last lost ground on Oct. 4, when it closed at $24.32. Trading volume ballooned to 51.4 million shares, or already more than triple the full-day average.
\n
A seven-day win streak would tie for the longest stretch of gains since the nine-day streak that ended Sept. 16, 2019. Since then, there have been two other seven-day win streaks, one ending in January 2021 and the other ending in November 2019.
\n
The gains have come ahead of the company's \"Plug Symposium 2021: Here Comes Green Hydrogen,\" which is scheduled to kick off on Thursday, at 10 a.m. Eastern.
\n
Also read: Plug Power stock jumps to a 6th straight gain ahead of much-awaited annual symposium.
\n
Morgan Stanley's Byrd raised his rating to overweight, six months after resuming coverage of Plug at equal weight. He raised his stock price target to $40 from $35.
\n
Byrd said there were three main reasons for the upgrade:
\n
He lifted his 2024 revenue estimate by $300 million to $2 billion, which compares with the current FactSet consensus of $1.68 billion.
\n
Byrd believes \"a very large amount\" of green hydrogen is needed for the U.S. to hit its decarbonization targets, and sees Plug as one of the best positioned companies to benefit.
\n
For the company's investor day, Byrd is \"most excited\" about what the company will say about its electrolyzer business, where he expects more detail on the potential pipeline of sales and customer announcements.
\n
He noted that Plug has already begun construction of several of its own hydrogen production facilities, which could lead to announcements of several \"offtake\" agreements.
\n
Within stationary power, Byrd believes Plug will announce a large data-center customer on Thursday.
\n
And regarding the potential legislative boost, Byrd said recent budget reconciliation language suggests the adoption of green hydrogen will accelerate beyond his assumptions. He said legislative support for low-carbon hydrogen could add $9-to-$10 per share to his stock price target.
\n
Plug's stock has lost 2.6% year to date, but has rallied 93.2% over the past 12 months. In comparison, the S&P 500 index has gained 15.8% this year and advanced 23.8% over the past year.
\n
Earlier Wednesday, Plug said it partnered with Airbus to study the feasibility of bringing green hydrogen to future aircraft and airports, as part of Airbus's goal of bringing zero-emission aircraft to market by 2035.
\n
\"We've already revolutionized electric trucks and industrial fleets on the ground, so now we're turning our sights to the skies,\" Plug Chief Executive Andy Marsh said.
\n
Plug also announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Phillips 66 to develop green hydrogen business opportunities.
\n
\"We believe hydrogen is an important pathway for hard-to-electrify industries in a lower-carbon energy landscape,\" said Heath DePriest, vice president of Phillip 66's Emerging Energy group.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
