At Contentful, all 550 employees, including Sloan, will continue to work from home most of the time, and occasionally venture into the office for socializing and collaboration.
\n
But many of those returning may not recognize the new digs, which are largely being designed to foster a nexus of ideas shared in theater-like settings and socially-distanced conference rooms, with specialized break-out areas for brainstorming and socializing. Workers will need to get used to the new office lingo of dynamic spaces and hoteling.
\n
\"It's about going into the tunnel, and coming out of the tunnel,\" VMware Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Poonen told MarketWatch, about a conservative return to the office. \"This is sort of like a traffic jam -- you slow down, and then gradually regain speed. We will get back to normalcy.\"
\n
Tech companies -- among the first to ask employees to work from home during the pandemic -- are leading the return to the office by the fall. Their reopening plans offer a glimpse into office life of the next few years, with a heavy emphasis on a hybrid work model and three-day work weeks onsite, as well as no vaccine requirements. California's COVID-19 state of emergency order will remain in place beyond June 15, despite plans to fully reopen the state's economy on that date, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday.
\n
\"Three days a week [in the office] is the new five,\" Twilio Inc. (TWLO) Chief People Officer Christy Lake told MarketWatch, noting that 77% of the company's employees said they miss the office. \"The claims that 'the office is dead' are over-hyped. The truth is that the reasons people come into the physical office are changing.\"
\n
Dynamic spaces will occupy a key part of Twilio's plans. The San Francisco-based company has revamped offices with specific areas for open collaboration, community and socializing, heads-down work, and flexible multipurpose spaces, said Lake, who added that some employees will trickle back to Twilio's Bay Area offices beginning July 14. Employees have the option of working from home throughout the year.
\n
Pre-pandemic, many in Silicon Valley were already on the path to a hybrid situation. Advances in videoconferencing technology and bandwidth had given them the luxury of working from home several days a week to avoid car-choked freeways. And employers were OK with the arrangement to scoop up talent from across the country. What COVID did was accelerate a work trend that was already clearly in motion, said Heather Kernahan, global CEO at PR agency Hotwire.
\n
\"It's not going 'back to work.' We've been working hard,\" Kernahan said. \"Thoughtful working is what you do, not where you go.\"
\n
An exodus back to the office is likely to occur by September, based on data collected by real-estate company Savills, which surveyed more than 120 tech companies in March. More than half said they expect to be back in the office by the third quarter of this calendar year.
\n
Silicon Valley's largest employers, sitting on millions of square feet of land they own, have been particularly aggressive in dictating when workers get back. How that pans out in an era when employees are increasingly outspoken about work conditions, including the option to work exclusively from home, bears watching, say labor experts.
\n
While employees at smaller companies have overwhelmingly shown a preference to return, those at Apple and other behemoths aren't so sure, given the large number of people congregating in one place.
\n
Shortly after Apple Inc. $(AAPL)$ pronounced employees must work in the office at least three days a week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) beginning in early September -- including at Apple Park, the futuristic \"spaceship\"-like headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., that the company spent an estimated $5 billion to design and build -- some workers pushed back.
\n
\"We would like to take the opportunity to communicate a growing concern among our colleagues,\" Apple employees said in a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook. \"That Apple's remote/location-flexible work policy, and the communication around it, have already forced some of our colleagues to quit. Without the inclusivity that flexibility brings, many of us feel we have to choose between either a combination of our families, our well-being, and being empowered to do our best work, or being a part of Apple.\"
\n
Google parent Alphabet Inc. $(GOOGL)$(GOOGL) said it expects about 20% of its workforce to remain fully remote this fall , while 60% will work a hybrid office/home mix.
\n
Facebook Inc. (FB) employees have returned to a 10% maximum capacity at corporate headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., and other select San Francisco Bay Area offices. Facebook is likely to fully reopen most U.S. offices by October, and non-remote employees will work in offices at least half the time. The company and Twitter Inc. (TWTR) have said employees will be allowed to permanently work from home if their jobs allow for it.
\n
MarketWatch talked to at least 20 companies, and a handful, including Twilio and Box, require employees to be vaccinated before returning to the office. Facebook and Amazon.com Inc. $(AMZN)$, for example, only encourage employees to vaccinate.
\n
Others, however, have taken a more measured approach.
\n
Salesforce.com Inc. $(CRM.AU)$ reopened its first U.S. office, the Salesforce Tower headquarters in San Francisco, in May. Offices in Palo Alto, Calif., and Irvine, Calif, will follow in the coming months. At the same time, the company extended the option for all employees to continue to work from home through the end of 2021.
\n
Okta Inc. (OKTA) is shifting from large, campus-type locations serving regions to distributed offices based on where employees live. The new offices will function like Apple stores -- an \"experiential place\" where customers and partners can learn about products and chat with experts, and employees can collaborate as needed, an Okta spokeswoman told MarketWatch.
\n
Box Inc. $(BOX.UK)$ is opening its San Francisco office in mid-July and its Redwood City, Calif., headquarters in early August at limited capacity, per local regulations. What its workers will encounter is a mix of assigned desks and hoteling, a form of office management in which workers schedule their use of desks, cubicles and offices. But travel remains prohibited until at least later this summer, and quarterly all-hands meetings will remain virtual through Feb. 1, 2022.
\n
Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. $(HPE)$ has divided its workforce into two classes: \"Edge\" workers will come to the office with their laptops once or twice a week for meetings, collaboration and culture. \"Office\" workers will maintain dedicated work stations and come to the office most days.
\n
German software giant SAP (SAP.XE), which has a Palo Alto, Calif., campus, opened its offices in late April at less than 5% daily capacity for \"employees who choose to return to the office for business critical needs,\" a spokesperson said.
\n
Then there are outliers like VMware Inc. $(VMW)$, where few employees currently work onsite. The company is offering employees the choice to permanently work from home as part of a digital-first approach. VMware prohibits meetings and events of more than 10 people at the office -- a policy that will remain in effect until at least July 30. Few employees are currently working at the office, according to the company.
\n
Boatsetter Inc., an online platform for boat rentals in Florida, went to the extreme and shed 6,000 feet of office space.
\n
Whether employees are entirely open to the idea of returning full-time in the foreseeable future is another matter.
\n
About one in three (34%) working from home said they would look for a new job if forced to be in the office full time, and nearly half (49%) prefer a hybrid arrangement, according to a Robert Half poll of 1,000 U.S. workers in March .
\n
\"After a year of drastic change, many business leaders are eager to restore a sense of normalcy and welcome staff back to the office,\" said Paul McDonald, senior executive director at Robert Half. \"But reopening doors will bring new obstacles for companies to navigate. Not all employees will be ready -- or willing -- to return to the workplace, so staying flexible and responsive to their needs will be critical.\"
\n
Nearly nine in 10 employees (89%) say they want to be allowed to work remotely some or all of the time, according to a survey of almost 209,000 people in 190 countries by Boston Consulting Group and The Network.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
How tech companies are bringing workers back to the office: Slowly and with 'social' incentives
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHow tech companies are bringing workers back to the office: Slowly and with 'social' incentives\n
\n\n
\n\n\n<div class=\"head\" \">\n\n\n

\n\n
\n
Dow Jones
\n
2021-06-13 04:47
\n
\n\n
\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
'The claims that \"the office is dead\" are over-hyped,' Twilio executive says. An antitrust probe in China, tighter auditing standards in the U.S., and the rotation from growth to value stocks all weighed down its stock.
\n
Alibaba's stock might look cheap at 18 times forward earnings, but analysts still expect its earnings to dip 3% this year as it absorbs a record $2.75 billion antitrust fine. It will also need to halt its exclusive deals with big brands, which could soften its defenses against smaller e-commerce marketplaces.
\n
And that's not all. Alibaba could be forced to divest its media assets and share its user data with the government, while its fintech affiliate, Ant Group, will be more tightly regulated as a financial holding company. Alibaba might weather all these headwinds and recover over the long term, but its stock could remain dead money for the foreseeable future.
\n
Instead of betting on Alibaba's potential comeback, investors should consider buying shares of Chinese tech stocks that aren't in regulatory crosshairs. These three e-commerce companies fit the bill: JD.com (NASDAQ:JD), Pinduoduo (NASDAQ:PDD), and Baozun (NASDAQ:BZUN).
\n
\n
1. JD.com
\n
JD.com is China's second-largest e-commerce company after Alibaba. However, it's actually the country's largest direct retailer, since it generates most of its revenue from its first-party marketplace.
\n
Unlike Alibaba, which generates most of its e-commerce revenue from third-party sellers on Taobao and Tmall, JD takes on its own inventories and fulfills orders with its logistics network. This business model is more capital-intensive, but it shields its buyers from fake products.
\n
Alibaba's co-founder, Jack Ma, once said JD's lower-margin business model would end in a \"tragedy,\" but economies of scale gradually kicked in and enabled it to generate consistent profits. JD's logistics arm also balanced out its costs by offering its services to third-party customers.
\n
JD's revenue and adjusted earnings rose 29% and 57%, respectively, in 2020. It ended the first quarter with nearly 500 million annual active consumers, and analysts expect its revenue and earnings to grow another 26% and 13%, respectively, this year.
\n
JD doesn't face as much regulatory heat as Alibaba, it margins are expanding, and the stock trades at just 28 times forward earnings estimates and less than 1 times estimated sales.
\n
2. Pinduoduo
\n
Pinduoduo is the third-largest e-commerce player in China in terms of annual revenue, but in terms of total shoppers, it's actually bigger than JD, with 628 million annual active buyers. Like Alibaba, Pinduoduo generates most of its revenue through listing fees and ads for third-party merchants.
\n
\n
Pinduoduo carved out a niche with its discount marketplace, which encouraged shoppers to team up for group discounts. That strategy, which relied heavily on users sharing links across social networks, caught on across China's lower-tier cities.
\n
Pinduoduo subsequently expanded into China's top-tier cities and partnered with bigger brands to challenge Alibaba and JD. It also gained an early mover's advantage in online agriculture by enabling over 12 million farmers to directly ship their produce to customers.
\n
Pinduoduo's revenue surged 97% in 2020, then soared another 239% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2021. Analysts expect its revenue to grow 92% for the full year. Those estimates are impressive for a stock that trades at about eight times this year's sales.
\n
Pinduoduo is still unprofitable due to its aggressive discounts, subsidies for sellers, and the expansion of its logistics network. However, its adjusted operating and net losses still narrowed year-over-year last quarter, and it could gradually inch toward profitability as it increases its scale.
\n
3. Baozun
\n
Baozun is sometimes called the \"Shopify of China\", but that comparison is misleading. Unlike Shopify, which provides self-serve e-commerce services to smaller businesses, Baozun mainly provides end-to-end e-commerce solutions to large international companies.
\n
It can be difficult for large U.S. companies to build Chinese websites, launch marketing campaigns, and set up e-commerce marketplaces, so Baozun is a \"one-stop shop\" that handles all those needs. It also helps companies integrate their online marketplaces with Tmall, JD, and Pinduoduo, which makes it a well-balanced play on China's booming e-commerce sector.
\n
Baozun's business model is capital-intensive, but it expanded its margins in recent years by pivoting from a \"distribution-based\" model, in which it directly fulfilled orders, to a \"non-distribution\" based model, which allows its clients to directly ship their products to their customers.
\n
Baozun's revenue and adjusted earnings increased 22% and 50%, respectively, in 2020. An antitrust probe in China, tighter auditing standards in the U.S., and the rotation from growth to value stocks all weighed down its stock.\nAlibaba's stock might look cheap at 18 times forward earnings, but analysts still expect its earnings to dip 3% this year as it absorbs a record $2.75 billion antitrust fine. It will also need to halt its exclusive deals with big brands, which could soften its defenses against smaller e-commerce marketplaces.\nAnd that's not all. Alibaba could be forced to divest its media assets and share its user data with the government, while its fintech affiliate, Ant Group, will be more tightly regulated as a financial holding company. Alibaba might weather all these headwinds and recover over the long term, but its stock could remain dead money for the foreseeable future.\nInstead of betting on Alibaba's potential comeback, investors should consider buying shares of Chinese tech stocks that aren't in regulatory crosshairs. These three e-commerce companies fit the bill: JD.com (NASDAQ:JD), Pinduoduo (NASDAQ:PDD), and Baozun (NASDAQ:BZUN).\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. JD.com\nJD.com is China's second-largest e-commerce company after Alibaba. However, it's actually the country's largest direct retailer, since it generates most of its revenue from its first-party marketplace.\nUnlike Alibaba, which generates most of its e-commerce revenue from third-party sellers on Taobao and Tmall, JD takes on its own inventories and fulfills orders with its logistics network. This business model is more capital-intensive, but it shields its buyers from fake products.\nAlibaba's co-founder, Jack Ma, once said JD's lower-margin business model would end in a \"tragedy,\" but economies of scale gradually kicked in and enabled it to generate consistent profits. JD's logistics arm also balanced out its costs by offering its services to third-party customers.\nJD's revenue and adjusted earnings rose 29% and 57%, respectively, in 2020. It ended the first quarter with nearly 500 million annual active consumers, and analysts expect its revenue and earnings to grow another 26% and 13%, respectively, this year.\nJD doesn't face as much regulatory heat as Alibaba, it margins are expanding, and the stock trades at just 28 times forward earnings estimates and less than 1 times estimated sales.\n2. Pinduoduo\nPinduoduo is the third-largest e-commerce player in China in terms of annual revenue, but in terms of total shoppers, it's actually bigger than JD, with 628 million annual active buyers. Like Alibaba, Pinduoduo generates most of its revenue through listing fees and ads for third-party merchants.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nPinduoduo carved out a niche with its discount marketplace, which encouraged shoppers to team up for group discounts. That strategy, which relied heavily on users sharing links across social networks, caught on across China's lower-tier cities.\nPinduoduo subsequently expanded into China's top-tier cities and partnered with bigger brands to challenge Alibaba and JD. It also gained an early mover's advantage in online agriculture by enabling over 12 million farmers to directly ship their produce to customers.\nPinduoduo's revenue surged 97% in 2020, then soared another 239% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2021. Analysts expect its revenue to grow 92% for the full year. Those estimates are impressive for a stock that trades at about eight times this year's sales.\nPinduoduo is still unprofitable due to its aggressive discounts, subsidies for sellers, and the expansion of its logistics network. However, its adjusted operating and net losses still narrowed year-over-year last quarter, and it could gradually inch toward profitability as it increases its scale.\n3. Baozun\nBaozun is sometimes called the \"Shopify of China\", but that comparison is misleading. Unlike Shopify, which provides self-serve e-commerce services to smaller businesses, Baozun mainly provides end-to-end e-commerce solutions to large international companies.\nIt can be difficult for large U.S. companies to build Chinese websites, launch marketing campaigns, and set up e-commerce marketplaces, so Baozun is a \"one-stop shop\" that handles all those needs. It also helps companies integrate their online marketplaces with Tmall, JD, and Pinduoduo, which makes it a well-balanced play on China's booming e-commerce sector.\nBaozun's business model is capital-intensive, but it expanded its margins in recent years by pivoting from a \"distribution-based\" model, in which it directly fulfilled orders, to a \"non-distribution\" based model, which allows its clients to directly ship their products to their customers.\nBaozun's revenue and adjusted earnings increased 22% and 50%, respectively, in 2020. Ninety-two percent of its GMV (gross merchandise volume) came from its non-distribution-based business. Analysts expect its revenue and adjusted earnings to rise 35% and 5%, respectively, this year.\nThis oft-overlooked stock trades at just 19 times forward earnings and 1.5 times this year's sales, which might make it an undervalued growth stock if investors fall in love with Chinese tech companies again.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":464,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":137142127,"gmtCreate":1622333021669,"gmtModify":1634102327447,"author":{"id":"3582327204568575","authorId":"3582327204568575","name":"invest4value","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/975309cd3a6c14b9b84d70a743d8eb57","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582327204568575","authorIdStr":"3582327204568575"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"It has been volatile recently","listText":"It has been volatile recently","text":"It has been volatile recently","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/137142127","repostId":"2138765488","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2138765488","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1622215232,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2138765488?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-28 23:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla shares dip on recall rumors","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2138765488","media":"Reuters","summary":"May 28 - Shares of Tesla Inc fell more than 1% on Friday after an unverified tweet said the electric carmaker had decided to recall some of its Model Y and Model 3 vehicles, citing a note from the company.Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment and Reuters was unable to verify the statement from the company that was shown in the tweet.","content":"
May 28 (Reuters) - Shares of Tesla Inc fell more than 1% on Friday after an unverified tweet said the electric carmaker had decided to recall some of its Model Y and Model 3 vehicles, citing a note from the company.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment and Reuters was unable to verify the statement from the company that was shown in the tweet.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Even with the reopening of the economy, it’s likely a hybrid model will persist for many retailers going forward, due to efficiency and capacity constraints, the bank said.\nRetailers don’t necessarily need to have a footprint in more densely populated areas, but they are better positioned to capitalize on that footprint and the hybrid fulfillment trend, according to the report.\nPetco’s digital fulfillment in-store rose from 20% in the first quarter of 2020 to 80% by the fourth, Goldman found. That momentum has continued this year: The company reported 83% of digital sales were fulfilled by stores in the first quarter of 2021.\nTarget, which also has stores in high-density areas, grew its digital fulfillment in-store 5% from the first to the fourth quarter, to 85%, according to Goldman. That change is smaller than that of Petco and others, but the bank notes Target embraced the “buy online, pay in-store” and curbside pick-up model long before the pandemic and same-day services still grew faster than overall digital in the first quarter of this year.\nGoldman also highlighted Dick’s Sporting Goods as a suburban play and Tractor Supply Company as a rural play. The use of “buy online, pay in-store” has also continued through the first quarter of this year for Dick’s.\nOnline orders make up a small portion of overall sales for Tractor Supply, but the company has an above-average store-fulfillment rate among customers embracing the hybrid transaction, Goldman found.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":340,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":173288848,"gmtCreate":1626662423684,"gmtModify":1633925128978,"author":{"id":"3582327204568575","authorId":"3582327204568575","name":"invest4value","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/975309cd3a6c14b9b84d70a743d8eb57","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582327204568575","idStr":"3582327204568575"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"time to explore!","listText":"time to explore!","text":"time to explore!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/173288848","repostId":"1139272143","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":176,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":175696582,"gmtCreate":1627027724246,"gmtModify":1633768659228,"author":{"id":"3582327204568575","authorId":"3582327204568575","name":"invest4value","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/975309cd3a6c14b9b84d70a743d8eb57","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582327204568575","idStr":"3582327204568575"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"What is happening?","listText":"What is happening?","text":"What is happening?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/175696582","repostId":"1112567098","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":117,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":126788885,"gmtCreate":1624584730847,"gmtModify":1633950930723,"author":{"id":"3582327204568575","authorId":"3582327204568575","name":"invest4value","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/975309cd3a6c14b9b84d70a743d8eb57","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582327204568575","idStr":"3582327204568575"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"amazing!","listText":"amazing!","text":"amazing!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/126788885","repostId":"1193737129","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1193737129","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624581188,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1193737129?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-25 08:33","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Microsoft closes above $2 trillion market cap for the first time","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1193737129","media":"CNBC","summary":"Microsoftis now worth more than $2 trillion.\nThe software maker first hit that level just after 3 p.","content":"
\n
Microsoftis now worth more than $2 trillion.\nThe software maker first hit that level just after 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 22, but dipped below that mark again before ending Thursday's trading session...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The milestone follows the company's unveiling ofWindows 11, its first new version of the flagship operating system in more than five years, on Thursday morning.\nMicrosoft's value has doubled in two years' time, bolstered by demand for products such as the Teams chat app that kept organizations functioning during the coronavirus pandemic.\nThe appreciation of the company's stock price reflects a rejuvenated company, one that has looked beyond its dominant Windows operating system and found growth in cloud computing and acquisitions.\nMicrosoft stock has grown more than 600% since Satya Nadella replaced Steve Ballmer as the company's CEO in 2014. (During Ballmer's 14-year tenure as CEO, the company's stock fell 32%.) One of Nadella's first moves was to reveal that Office applications like Word and Excel were coming toApple's iOS andGoogle's Android, rather than restricting those apps to smartphones that ran Windows. A year later, when Windows 10 came out, it was a free update, unlike Windows 7 and Windows 8.\nNadella had run the division that includes Microsoft's Azure public cloud immediately before taking the CEO job, and it shows. In his years as CEO he has made public appearances to talk about uses of Azure at prominent customers such as the National Basketball Association, Volkswagen and Walgreens. Azure is on track to becomeMicrosoft's largest business.\nMicrosoft under Nadella has become gentler and more open to working with rivals where it makes sense. It improved relations with rivals such as Red Hat and Salesforce, and it has added the open-source Linux operating system, once seen as a threat to Windows, directly into Windows. On Thursday, the company announced Windows 11 will support apps that run Google's Android operating system, and Nadella spent the end of the company's presentation portraying Microsoft as afriendlier option for software developersthan Apple.\nThese days, venture investorBen Horowitz has said, Microsoft is a great company for start-ups to partner with, rather than an entity to be feared.\nNadella's Microsoft has managed to largely avoid antitrust scrutiny despite its past, which includes a landmark antitrust case brought by the U.S. Justice Department in 1998. Meanwhile,Amazon, Apple,Facebookand Google have all faced pressure from regulators during the Nadella years. However, team communication app makerSlackdid file an antitrust complaint in Europe last year after Microsoft introduced Teams and released it to clients that subscribe to the Office 365 bundle.\nMore recently, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, Ohio's Jim Jordan, sent a letter to Microsoft President Brad Smithsuggestingthat it might be covered by parts of five proposed antitrust bills making their way through committee.\nMicrosoft has spent more than $45 billion acquiring companies on Nadella's watch, including business social network LinkedIn, video game developers Mojang and Zenimax, and the code-storage service GitHub. Microsoft has largely left them to operate independently and grow. In April the companysaidit had agreed to acquire speech-recognition company Nuance for $19.7 billion, inclusive of equity and debt.\nNadella's deal track record has been more successful than that of his predecessor, whoseaQuantive and Nokiaacquisitions resulted in write-downs. Mojang's Minecraft game, by contrast, has become thebest-selling gamein history, and LinkedIn's quarterly revenue has nearly tripled.\nMicrosoft was among the first companies to exceed a $1 trillion valuation when ithit that milestonein April 2019. Not long before that, Microsoft had reclaimed the title ofmost valuable public company, although today it's held byApple.\nAmazon and Google's parent company,Alphabet, are both worth more than $1 trillion, as is oil company Saudi Aramco.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":251,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":137142127,"gmtCreate":1622333021669,"gmtModify":1634102327447,"author":{"id":"3582327204568575","authorId":"3582327204568575","name":"invest4value","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/975309cd3a6c14b9b84d70a743d8eb57","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582327204568575","idStr":"3582327204568575"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"It has been volatile recently","listText":"It has been volatile recently","text":"It has been volatile recently","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/137142127","repostId":"2138765488","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2138765488","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1622215232,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2138765488?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-28 23:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla shares dip on recall rumors","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2138765488","media":"Reuters","summary":"May 28 - Shares of Tesla Inc fell more than 1% on Friday after an unverified tweet said the electric carmaker had decided to recall some of its Model Y and Model 3 vehicles, citing a note from the company.Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment and Reuters was unable to verify the statement from the company that was shown in the tweet.","content":"

\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Trading volume has fallen as well, even though mentions of the stocks on Reddit have risen, according to analysis from Bank of America.\n\nTotal activity on Reddit and in the options market suggest the retail trader movement is no longer growing, the firm said in a note.\n“Seventy percent of the stocks on last week’s screen saw shares fall over the past week, AMC a major exception. While conversations generally accelerated for most stocks on our screen last week, overall WallStreetBets conversations have barely risen in recent weeks, and retail options usage remains well-below 1Q21, suggesting broader participation beyond just retail,” Bank of America said.\nAs of Wednesday’s close, AMC was up 12% over the past week. The stock jumped again on Thursday morning. The movie theater chain was also the most popular trade by retail investors over the past week, according to JPMorgan. However, the next five favorite trades were exchange-traded funds—providing more evidence that interest in individual stocks might be waning.\nThere is also some evidence that the Reddit users are getting less successful at pushing up a stock.\nOne name that jumped into Bank of America’s trending list this week was Petco. A surge of interest in the stock helped lead to a brief spike in it Monday, but the shares quickly fell back to their previous levels.\n\nCNBC’s Jim Cramer has commented on Twitter on the weakness in some of the newer Reddit favorites.\n“WSB, keep your fire power for $AMC and $GME. There is too much money being lost on your other names. You might not be able to keep buying AMC or GME up here if you keep this up. Just sayin,” Cramer wrote on Twitter.\n\nTo be sure, the impact of the Reddit trade remains visible in the markets. Despite its recent struggles, GameStop was still trading above $200 per share on Thursday, dramatically higher than most Wall Street pros think it is worth.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":118,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":193542669,"gmtCreate":1620803458751,"gmtModify":1634196172325,"author":{"id":"3582327204568575","authorId":"3582327204568575","name":"invest4value","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/975309cd3a6c14b9b84d70a743d8eb57","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582327204568575","idStr":"3582327204568575"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Glad that it's settled.","listText":"Glad that it's settled.","text":"Glad that it's settled.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/193542669","repostId":"2134696001","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2134696001","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1620800992,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2134696001?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-12 14:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Ericsson to pay 80 million euros after settling damages claim with Nokia","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2134696001","media":"Reuters","summary":"STOCKHOLM, May 12 (Reuters) - Telecoms gear maker Ericssonhas reached an agreement with Finland's No","content":"
STOCKHOLM, May 12 (Reuters) - Telecoms gear maker Ericsson

has reached an agreement with Finland's Nokia

to pay a settlement of 80 million euros ($97.0 million), it said on Wednesday.

Ericsson said the settlement would impact operating profit (EBIT) by 80 million euros and cashflow by 26 million euros in the second quarter.

\"The amount reflects uncertainty, risk, expense, and potential distraction from business focus associated with a potentially lengthy and complex litigation,\" it said in a statement.

The Swedish company added that the remainder of the settlement amount would be made in similar installments in 2022 and 2023 respectively, impacting cash-flow.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; It’s all being done in the hopes of PayPal becoming the world’s next “super app,” akin to China’s Alipay or WeChat, India’s Paytm or Singapore’s Grab.
\n
The stakes are high: If PayPal pulls it off, the company could become a bigger part of U.S. consumers’ lives than Amazon, Google or Facebook. But, in the U.S., there is no shortage of banking giants and technology firms that have tried and failed to accomplish what PayPal wants to do.
\n
“It’s difficult to become a super app,” PayPal Chief Executive Officer Dan Schulman said in an interview. “I think we have a chance if we execute extremely well against this. But it’s obviously a place that a lot of companies are thinking about as well.”
\n
The idea came to Schulman during a dinner three years ago at his home in Palo Alto, California, close to PayPal’s San Jose headquarters, with Martin Lau, the president of WeChat parent company Tencent Holdings Ltd.
\n
As the two dined, a picture began forming in Schulman’s head: Consumers could come to the PayPal app for more than just paying for things online. It could be their one-stop shop for all things shopping and finance, mirroring the success WeChat has had in China.
\n
“There’s too many apps on all of our phones -- I can’t have an app for my pharmacy, my grocery, for all the different retailers I have,” Schulman said. “I can’t have 40 to 50 different apps on my phone. I can’t remember the passwords, I don’t want to enter in all my info every time. There’s really only eight to 10 apps that we use every single day or every single week. Those apps are going to morph into what we call super apps.”
\n
He ordered his team to begin conducting consumer research.
\n
The feat, if PayPal pulls it off, will not be an easy one. Other U.S. companies have found little success with similar attempts.
\n
Take Uber Technologies Inc. The ride-hailing giant announced in 2019 that it would create a new unit focused on financial services. Less than a year later, the executive tapped to lead the initiative left the company after Uber said it planned to “de-prioritize” several of the unit’s projects, which had included credit cards, a digital wallet and instant payments for drivers.
\n
That contrasts with Grab Holdings Inc., which started as a Southeast Asian ride-hailing company and has since expanded into financial services, payments and food delivery. The company is poised to go public via a U.S. blank-check company that values the company at almost $40 billion.
\n
JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s experience was more like Uber’s. The largest U.S. bank spent years touting its Chase Pay app, which was supposed to make it easier for people to shop and redeem card rewards. After the effort was slow to take off, the lender discontinued the app and ultimately shelved the entire project, encouraging consumers to instead sign up with its would-be competitor: PayPal.
\n
“It’s going to be hard to create a super app as we know it, like what we’ve seen in China,” Sanjay Sakhrani, an analyst at Keefe Bruyette & Woods, said in an interview. “We have compartmentalized how we consume things. We didn’t have the luxury of finding things in one place like people in emerging markets have had because of the super apps.”
\n
Still, Sakhrani said, some consumers might be open to trying the super-app model, such as the 25% of U.S. adults that struggle to access mainstream financial services.
\n
The grandson of a union organizer in New York’s garment district, Schulman started his career at AT&T as an entry-level employee. It’s all being done in the hopes of PayPal becoming the world’s next “super app,” akin to China’s Alipay or WeChat, India’s Paytm or Singapore’s Grab.\nThe stakes are high: If PayPal pulls it off, the company could become a bigger part of U.S. consumers’ lives than Amazon, Google or Facebook. But, in the U.S., there is no shortage of banking giants and technology firms that have tried and failed to accomplish what PayPal wants to do.\n“It’s difficult to become a super app,” PayPal Chief Executive Officer Dan Schulman said in an interview. “I think we have a chance if we execute extremely well against this. But it’s obviously a place that a lot of companies are thinking about as well.”\nThe idea came to Schulman during a dinner three years ago at his home in Palo Alto, California, close to PayPal’s San Jose headquarters, with Martin Lau, the president of WeChat parent company Tencent Holdings Ltd.\nAs the two dined, a picture began forming in Schulman’s head: Consumers could come to the PayPal app for more than just paying for things online. It could be their one-stop shop for all things shopping and finance, mirroring the success WeChat has had in China.\n“There’s too many apps on all of our phones -- I can’t have an app for my pharmacy, my grocery, for all the different retailers I have,” Schulman said. “I can’t have 40 to 50 different apps on my phone. I can’t remember the passwords, I don’t want to enter in all my info every time. There’s really only eight to 10 apps that we use every single day or every single week. Those apps are going to morph into what we call super apps.”\nHe ordered his team to begin conducting consumer research.\nThe feat, if PayPal pulls it off, will not be an easy one. Other U.S. companies have found little success with similar attempts.\nTake Uber Technologies Inc. The ride-hailing giant announced in 2019 that it would create a new unit focused on financial services. Less than a year later, the executive tapped to lead the initiative left the company after Uber said it planned to “de-prioritize” several of the unit’s projects, which had included credit cards, a digital wallet and instant payments for drivers.\nThat contrasts with Grab Holdings Inc., which started as a Southeast Asian ride-hailing company and has since expanded into financial services, payments and food delivery. The company is poised to go public via a U.S. blank-check company that values the company at almost $40 billion.\nJPMorgan Chase & Co.’s experience was more like Uber’s. The largest U.S. bank spent years touting its Chase Pay app, which was supposed to make it easier for people to shop and redeem card rewards. After the effort was slow to take off, the lender discontinued the app and ultimately shelved the entire project, encouraging consumers to instead sign up with its would-be competitor: PayPal.\n“It’s going to be hard to create a super app as we know it, like what we’ve seen in China,” Sanjay Sakhrani, an analyst at Keefe Bruyette & Woods, said in an interview. “We have compartmentalized how we consume things. We didn’t have the luxury of finding things in one place like people in emerging markets have had because of the super apps.”\nStill, Sakhrani said, some consumers might be open to trying the super-app model, such as the 25% of U.S. adults that struggle to access mainstream financial services.\nThe grandson of a union organizer in New York’s garment district, Schulman started his career at AT&T as an entry-level employee. He worked his way up to president of the firm’s consumer long-distance business before being asked by Richard Branson to be the founding CEO of Virgin Mobile USA Inc. in 2001. He shepherded the company’s sale to Sprint Nextel Corp. eight years later.\nHe ultimately joined PayPal from American Express Co., where he had been overseeing the company’s efforts to offer services to under-banked Americans. At PayPal, he’s been known to hand employees a check and ask them to find a way to cash it without using their bank accounts -- an exercise that’s meant to show what life is like for the 63 million Americans unable to use standard financial services.\nA practitioner of the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga who’s rarely seen in public without his signature cowboy boots, Schulman has been setting up meetings with regulators as well as the leaders of the largest U.S. banks and credit-card companies to persuade them to continue partnering with PayPal as it pushes toward super-app status.\n“The reality is we believe our products and services can exist within the PayPal ecosystem,” AmEx CEO Steve Squeri said in an interview. “As Dan talks about the super app -- which I think is an interesting concept, and we’ll see how it all plays out -- we still believe we’ll win their card business and we’ll win some of their lending business.”\nPayPal is planning to debut the new services in the third quarter. The company is now processing more than $1 trillion in payments on its platform annually, and is adding as many as 55 million new users this year, on top of the 377 million it already had.\nIt’s all a far cry from where PayPal started when it went public under Schulman’s leadership six years ago. Since then, the company’s valuation has soared to roughly $300 billion -- more than $Citigroup Inc(C-N)$. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. combined.\n“This needs massive scale,” Schulman said. “Half a billion to 1 billion people, at a minimum.
