This $11 billion enterprise saw its sales surge 55% and earnings per share (EPS) jump 125% in the second quarter compared to the same period in 2019.
\n
Five Below's stores are colorful and vibrant shopping destinations, averaging 9,000 square feet in size and over $2 million in annual sales volume. Each location costs $300,000 to build and generates $450,000 in four-wall earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in the first year, a return on investment of 150%. With these stellar unit economics, it's no wonder the leadership team has been aggressively opening up more stores, including 101 net new locations just in the first two quarters of this fiscal year.
\n
Management believes that the company can one day have 2,500 stores in the U.S., which would be more than double the current footprint. This strategy has worked extremely well up to this point, and the stock price has followed, up more than seven-fold over the past decade. Expect Five Below to continue executing on its expansion plan in the years ahead.
\n
2. Home Depot
\n
Home Depot (NYSE:HD), the largest home-improvement retailer by sales, has proven that its business model can thrive no matter what economic situation we're in. Revenue growth exceeded 23% in four straight quarters before reaching a record $41.1 billion in Q2 2021. During the pandemic, people spent more time than ever before inside, and this led to a surge in spending on home improvements.
\n
Home Depot prides itself on providing a seamless omnichannel shopping experience, utilizing its nearly 2,300 locations as hubs to get the right supplies, tools, and equipment to customers when they need them. In the most recent quarter, 55% of online orders were fulfilled at a store. What's more, management has plans to offer same- and next-day delivery to 90% of the U.S. population sometime in 2022. Customers' urgency of need, coupled with the fact that Home Depot sells big and bulky products, is why e-commerce juggernaut Amazon hasn't been a concern in the home-improvement retail space.
\n
Looking ahead, the company will continue to focus on bolstering its position with professional (or Pro) customers, contractors who help people tackle larger and more complex renovation projects. Representing 45% of total sales, this group spends much more than the average do-it-yourself (DIY) customer. As a result, Home Depot's return on invested capital of 44.7% and sales per square foot of $663 are both outstanding.
\n
Investors have the opportunity to scoop up Home Depot shares today at a cheaper price-to-earnings ratio (26) than the S&P 500's (29).
\n
3. Netflix
\n
As the leading streaming company, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) is a stock you should consider loading up on if there's a market crash. The business has consistently increased sales by more than 20% for eight straight years. And for 2021, management is forecasting just under $30 billion in revenue and a 20% operating margin. Even more exciting is that Netflix is projected to start generating positive free cash flow starting next year, something shareholders have long been waiting for.
\n
The company's first-mover advantage is why it now has more than 213 million subscribers worldwide and can spend $17 billion in cash on content this year alone. Even with the bevy of streaming options consumers have at their fingertips today, Netflix still shines thanks to its award-winning and popular hit shows and movies. And adding mobile gaming to the subscription offering should help to attract more customers as well as drive higher levels of engagement over time.
\n
During the most recent quarter, 98% of new members came from outside the U.S. and Canada, as these mature markets become more and more saturated. Therefore, expect international growth to propel Netflix in the years ahead. With local content production currently taking place in 45 countries and the proven successes of foreign series like Squid Game and La Casa de Papel, the business is fulfilling its ambition of becoming a global media empire. The world is on its way to being dominated by streaming entertainment, and Netflix remains at the forefront of this shift.
\n
Have your watchlist ready
\n
Investors can't predict when the next market crash will happen, but they can prepare by having a watch list of companies ready to be purchased should the opportunity present itself. Five Below, Home Depot, and Netflix make the cut.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks to Buy When the Next Market Crash Comes
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks to Buy When the Next Market Crash Comes\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-11-05 21:17 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
While it's the best wealth-building tool people have at their disposal, the stock market is a volatile beast. Representing 45% of total sales, this group spends much more than the average do-it-yourself (DIY) customer. As a result, Home Depot's return on invested capital of 44.7% and sales per square foot of $663 are both outstanding. \nInvestors have the opportunity to scoop up Home Depot shares today at a cheaper price-to-earnings ratio (26) than the S&P 500's (29). \n3. Netflix\nAs the leading streaming company, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) is a stock you should consider loading up on if there's a market crash. \nThe company's first-mover advantage is why it now has more than 213 million subscribers worldwide and can spend $17 billion in cash on content this year alone. Even with the bevy of streaming options consumers have at their fingertips today, Netflix still shines thanks to its award-winning and popular hit shows and movies. And adding mobile gaming to the subscription offering should help to attract more customers as well as drive higher levels of engagement over time. \nDuring the most recent quarter, 98% of new members came from outside the U.S. and Canada, as these mature markets become more and more saturated. \nHave your watchlist ready\nInvestors can't predict when the next market crash will happen, but they can prepare by having a watch list of companies ready to be purchased should the opportunity present itself. Five Below, Home Depot, and Netflix make the cut.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":581,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":853671552,"gmtCreate":1634807511717,"gmtModify":1634807514418,"author":{"id":"3582001642809284","authorId":"3582001642809284","name":"377tkr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/25cbfadab64a300119ffe30a37937ff2","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/853671552","repostId":"1171775387","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1171775387","pubTimestamp":1634807066,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1171775387?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-21 17:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Berkshire Elects Buffett’s Daughter, Christopher Davis to Board","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1171775387","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Berkshire Hathaway Inc. elected two new members to its board, including Warren Buffett’s daughter.\nS","content":"
Berkshire Hathaway Inc. elected two new members to its board, including Warren Buffett’s daughter.
\n
Susan Buffett and Christopher Davis are the new directors, Berkshire said Wednesday in a statement. Hence, if you could only buy one stock, it should be the best of the lot.
\n
Costco Wholesale (NASDAQ:COST) has been around for decades, but this isn't a mature, slow-growing company. Let's take a closer look to see what makes Costco so special.
\n
A fine business
\n
Costco operates large warehouses with a wide variety of goods and services at low prices to its members, who pay a fee to join. In the U.S. and Canada, the basic annual charge is $60. Executive members pay double that amount, but receive a 2% reward on their purchases that they can redeem at the warehouses.
\n
Members clearly find it worthwhile. Renewal rates have hovered around 90% for years. And Costco keeps adding new members. The number of paid memberships has grown steadily, reaching 61.7 million at the end of the latest fiscal year (ended Aug. 29), up from 53.9 million only a couple of years ago.
\n
Its loyal members continue to spend as demonstrated by years of same-store sales (comps) growth. In the first quarter, comps -- excluding changes in gasoline prices and foreign currency -- were up 9.8%. That follows a 13.4% gain last year. What's more, the growth has been accelerating. In 2017, comps increased just 4%.
\n
The company's profitability has been growing at a nice clip too. Operating income in the latest fiscal year totaled $6.7 billion, 63% higher than five years ago. And it continues to improve. Thanks to strong execution in the first quarter, operating income grew by more than 18% to $1.7 billion -- and that's despite dealing with supply chain issues and higher costs plaguing the retail industry.
\n
Nice growth outlook
\n
This year's capital expenditure budget is over $4 billion, about an 11% increase from last year. Management is spending this mostly on logistics, e-commerce fulfillment operations, and expanding warehouses.
\n
As of August, Costco had 815 warehouses, an increase of 100 from August 2016. And the company continues to add more, including another eight stores already in the first quarter and 19 more on the way in the next three quarters.
\n
With stores continuing to do well and e-commerce sales growing rapidly (up 13.3% in the most recent quarter), this should all help Costco's top line growth.
\n
Dividends with a kick
\n
Costco has raised its dividend annually since initiating it in 2004 and there's every reason to think it will continue to do so. In May, the company increased its quarterly payout by 13% to $0.79 per share. The dividend yield currently stands at a modest 0.6% -- less than half of the S&P 500's 1.3%.
\n
However, Costco has made a habit out of declaring large, special dividends every few years. A year ago, it paid out $10 per share and in May 2017 it gave $7. While there's no guarantee it will do so in the future, Costco's increased profitability means it's a good bet that the company will continue this practice.
\n
Costco has proven it can offer a great value proposition to customers, and its sales and earnings growth don't look likely to stop anytime soon. Meanwhile, the company also provides improving dividends, which it supplements with special payments. It's this combination of growth and dividends that puts Costco at the top of my list of stocks.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
If I Could Only Buy 1 Stock Right Now, This Would Be It
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIf I Could Only Buy 1 Stock Right Now, This Would Be It\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-23 17:48 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
A diversified portfolio helps spread out your risk.
