A strong forecast may imply that the company intends to make its new lineup available during the waning days of its fiscal year, while weaker guidance could suggest the launch will be pushed in to the calendar fourth quarter.</p>\n<p>The problem this time around is that Apple has held off on issuing a formal outlook for more than a year amid the pandemic, and it remains unclear when or if the company will resume the practice. Apple has instead been offering \"directional insights\" to offer some indication of how its results could stack up to those of prior quarters, but it has been notoriously tight-lipped about plans for iPhone launches.</p>\n<p>\"We expect the timing of iPhone 13 availability will ultimately prove to be the swing factor in [the fiscal fourth quarter], thus we anticipate the company will provide more granular directional commentary,\" wrote Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Co. analyst Brian White.</p>\n<p>The coming launch is of keen interest given that the current lineup has performed well. \"The iPhone 12 cycle has been strong but we believe the next two cycles may prove challenging with units potentially down [year over year] in FY22 and FY23,\" wrote Barclays analyst Tim Long.</p>\n<p>The June quarter that Apple will report Tuesday is traditionally a slower <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>, as consumers wait for the next iPhone launch, but the company is still expected to deliver big growth in its smartphone business. Not only does the company have the benefit of easy comparisons to the early days of the pandemic, but it should also be reaping the rewards of an unusually promotional wireless industry.</p>\n<p><b>What to watch for</b></p>\n<p><b>Earnings:</b> Analysts tracked by FactSet expect Apple to post $1.01 in earnings per share, up from 65 cents a year earlier. Surely if we buy stocks and make investments into tracker funds we then want them to go up in price to provide us with a positive return. And, of course, that’s true over the long term. But Buffett has always had an ear to the ground for a bargain. Buying the shares of good businesses at fair valuations is a strategy that’s made him billions.</p>\n<p>He expanded the point in the CNBC interview, saying:<i>“[It’s] just like being a net buyer of food — I expect to buy food for the rest of my life and I hope that food goes down in price tomorrow.”</i></p>\n<p>And the approach works with my <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/.UKX.UK\">FTSE 100</a> tracker investment as well. If the index falls, my fixed monthly investment buys more. But, over the long haul, the returns from my investment could be worth the short-term ‘pain’ of lower prices.</p>\n<p><b>There’s always something to worry about</b></p>\n<p>Meanwhile, there’s rarely a relaxed and rosy picture to look at from the perspective of being an investor. It seems like there’s always something to worry about, if worry I must. Right now, the anxieties of the day include coronavirus, inflation, asset bubbles and other things. But I reckon the key to capturing the bigger, long-term returns potentially available from the FTSE 100 is to keep up my regular investments, no matter what happens to the index.</p>\n<p>Of course, there’s no guarantee the <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/.UKX.UK\">FTSE 100</a> will deliver returns as large as it has before. Perhaps the first 35 years of its life were an exceptional period. And my plan could fall flat if I end up cutting my investment horizon short. Customers with more than 10 employees nearly doubled to 497,000.</p>\n<p>Its bottom-line performance was also impressive as adjusted operating income jumped more than seven times from the year-ago quarter to $400.9 million, equal to a 41.9% adjusted operating profit margin. Adjusted earnings per share reached $1.32, topping the consensus at $0.99.</p>\n<p>Despite the strong results, investors shrugged off the results as the stock was mostly unchanged on the news. However, it jumped at the end of the month's first week on news that Cathie Wood's ARK Invest bought 96,100 shares.</p>\n<p>The following week, the stock gained on a pair of bullish analyst notes as it was upgraded to buy at Argus, and RBC Capital analyst Rishi Jaluria rated Zoom outperform and called it a top pick.</p>\n<p>Lastly, Zoom jumped at the end of the month after saying it would acquire Kites, a real-time machine translation start-up to help Zoom with its machine translation, a valuable add-on service for videoconferencing.</p>\n<p><b>Now what</b></p>\n<p>Zoom will face difficult comparisons over the rest of the year as the company laps its blowout performance during the pandemic. But it hiked its guidance for the full year in the first-quarter report, calling for revenue of $3.975 billion to $3.99 billion, above its prior range of $3.76 billion to $3.78 billion. It also expects adjusted earnings per share of $4.56 to $4.61, up from an earlier forecast of $3.59 to $3.65.</p>\n<p>With that forecast, Zoom doesn't even look that expensive at a price-to-earnings ratio of less than 90, especially compared to some of its software-as-a-service peers that aren't even profitable. As a result, the company handled 10.59 million total visits, up from 4.14 million in 2019.</p>\n<p>While these growth concerns could prove palpable in the extremely short-term when life does return to some semblance of normal, the proof is in the pudding that telehealth services are a game-changer and here to stay. Being able to consult with a physician from home is substantially more convenient for patients. On the flipside, physicians should have easier access to vital health metrics for chronically ill patients with telemedicine services. The expectation is this'll lead to improved patient outcomes, which means less money coming out of the pockets of health insurers.</p>\n<p>The icing on the cake is that Teladoc grew its annual sales by an average of 74% in the six years leading up to the coronavirus pandemic. Again, despite post-pandemic growth concerns, both the logic of telehealth and the sales data demonstrate that it's a driving force of change within the healthcare industry.</p>\n<p>What's more, Teladoc added an important puzzle piece in the fourth quarter of 2020 with the acquisition of applied health signals company Livongo Health. Livongo collects large amounts of data on patients with chronic illnesses, and with the help of artificial intelligence sends tips to its members to help them lead healthier lives. It had 658,000 diabetes members at the end of March, but is expanding its reach to include folks with hypertension and weight management issues. This means Livongo's services will cover a large swath of the U.S. adult population.</p>\n<p>Teladoc and Livongo are just scratching the surface of their potential as a broad-based personalized healthcare service. Understand, though, that the pot industry is bifurcated, with Canada largely underperforming and U.S. marijuana stocks outperforming. Since the U.S. is the largest cannabis market in the world by a longshot, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the top stocks to consider buying right now is under-the-radar U.S. multistate operator (MSO) <b>Columbia Care</b> (OTC:CCHWF).</p>\n<p>Although a lot of folks are waiting for the Biden administration to tackle cannabis reform, it's simply not needed. While it'd be great if restrictions were lifted for U.S. pot stocks, the fact is that 36 states have legalized weed in some capacity, 11 of which are also currently selling adult-use cannabis in dispensaries. As long as the federal Justice Department allows states to regulate their own industries, this will be a high-growth opportunity for investors.</p>\n<p>The interesting thing about the lesser-known Columbia Care is that it was all-in on medical marijuana until recently. When U.S. states began waving the green flag on recreational marijuana, it began pivoting its approach to include this larger pool of potential consumers. According to the company, it controls 92 dispensaries and 30 manufacturing/processing facilities, if you take into account all pending acquisitions.</p>\n<p>All MSOs offer their own unique blueprint for growth in the United States. For Columbia Care, acquisitions and carefully plotted expansion have been its ticket to higher sales. It recently closed on its purchase of Green Leaf Medical, purchased The Green Solution last year, and announced the acquisition of The Medicine Man in the Denver, Colorado metro area last month. Although integrating these acquisitions and using its common stock as capital could hinder its bottom-line operating results in 2021, things should vastly improve in 2022 and beyond.</p>\n<p>Columbia Care is also building a presence in a number of key limited-license states, such as Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, and Virginia. Limited-license states either cap the number of retail, cultivation, or processing licenses they issue, or issue licenses based on jurisdiction. The point being that Columbia Care is seeking out high-dollar states where competition is being dialed back purposefully by regulators.</p>\n<p>Between rapid organic growth in legalized states and its aggressive but purpose-driven acquisition strategy, Columbia Care is expected to top $500 million in sales this year and $1 billion by 2023. This means investors can scoop up shares of Columbia Care today for less than two times Wall Street's full-year sales forecast for 2023. But since the advent of the internet, developers and publishers have been refining how ads reach users, as well as how these advertisements should be priced. This has given rise to programmatic advertising, which is PubMatic's stomping ground.</p>\n<p>In simple terms, programmatic advertising involves the real-time buying, selling, and optimization of ads by machine-learning algorithms. Connecting advertisers with publishers occurs two ways: via demand-side platforms (DSP) or sell/supply-side platforms (SSP). DSPs allow the advertisers to control their advertising campaigns. Meanwhile, SSPs empower publishers to sell their display space to advertisers.</p>\n<p>PubMatic's dynamic cloud-based infrastructure operates as an SSP, which comes with a number of key advantages. SSPs limit the number of similar ad impressions to a single viewer, allow publishers to set a price floor for advertising space, and use machine learning to select the best ad for a user, not the one that necessarily boasts the highest price. This optimized focus for publishers resulted in PubMatic recognizing a net dollar-based retention of 130% for the March-ended quarter. In other words, existing publishers on its platform spent 30% more in Q1 2021 than they did in the year-ago quarter.</p>\n<p>What we're witnessing in the advertising space is a clear push toward digital. According to a May investor presentation from the company, global digital ad spend should grow by an annualized rate of 10% through 2024, with even faster annual growth expected for mobile, digital video, and connected TV (CTV)/over-the-top (OTT) programmatic ad spend. This optimized focus for publishers resulted in PubMatic recognizing a net dollar-based retention of 130% for the March-ended quarter. Adjusted earnings per share reached $1.32, topping the consensus at $0.99.</p>\n<p>Despite the strong results, investors shrugged off the results as the stock was mostly unchanged on the news. However, it jumped at the end of the month's first week on news that Cathie Wood's ARK Invest bought 96,100 shares.</p>\n<p>The following week, the stock gained on a pair of bullish analyst notes as it was upgraded to buy at Argus, and RBC Capital analyst Rishi Jaluria rated Zoom outperform and called it a top pick.</p>\n<p>Lastly, Zoom jumped at the end of the month after saying it would acquire Kites, a real-time machine translation start-up to help Zoom with its machine translation, a valuable add-on service for videoconferencing.</p>\n<p><b>Now what</b></p>\n<p>Zoom will face difficult comparisons over the rest of the year as the company laps its blowout performance during the pandemic. But it hiked its guidance for the full year in the first-quarter report, calling for revenue of $3.975 billion to $3.99 billion, above its prior range of $3.76 billion to $3.78 billion. It also expects adjusted earnings per share of $4.56 to $4.61, up from an earlier forecast of $3.59 to $3.65.</p>\n<p>With that forecast, Zoom doesn't even look that expensive at a price-to-earnings ratio of less than 90, especially compared to some of its software-as-a-service peers that aren't even profitable. A strong forecast may imply that the company intends to make its new lineup available during the waning days of its fiscal year, while weaker guidance could suggest the launch will be pushed in to the calendar fourth quarter.</p>\n<p>The problem this time around is that Apple has held off on issuing a formal outlook for more than a year amid the pandemic, and it remains unclear when or if the company will resume the practice. Apple has instead been offering \"directional insights\" to offer some indication of how its results could stack up to those of prior quarters, but it has been notoriously tight-lipped about plans for iPhone launches.</p>\n<p>\"We expect the timing of iPhone 13 availability will ultimately prove to be the swing factor in [the fiscal fourth quarter], thus we anticipate the company will provide more granular directional commentary,\" wrote Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Co. analyst Brian White.</p>\n<p>The coming launch is of keen interest given that the current lineup has performed well. \"The iPhone 12 cycle has been strong but we believe the next two cycles may prove challenging with units potentially down [year over year] in FY22 and FY23,\" wrote Barclays analyst Tim Long.</p>\n<p>The June quarter that Apple will report Tuesday is traditionally a slower <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>, as consumers wait for the next iPhone launch, but the company is still expected to deliver big growth in its smartphone business. Not only does the company have the benefit of easy comparisons to the early days of the pandemic, but it should also be reaping the rewards of an unusually promotional wireless industry.</p>\n<p><b>What to watch for</b></p>\n<p><b>Earnings:</b> Analysts tracked by FactSet expect Apple to post $1.01 in earnings per share, up from 65 cents a year earlier. According to Estimize, which crowdsources projections from hedge funds, academics, and others, the average expectation is for $1.16 a share in EPS.</p>\n<p><b>Revenue: </b>The FactSet consensus calls for $73.26 billion in overall revenue, up from $59.69 billion a year prior. On Estimize, the average estimate is for $77.38 billion.</p>\n<p>On a segment level, analysts surveyed by FactSet project $34.19 billion in iPhone revenue, $7.17 billion in iPad revenue, $7.86 billion in Mac revenue, $16.26 billion in services revenue, and $7.83 billion in revenue for the wearables, home, and accessories category.</p>\n<p><b>Stock movement: </b>Apple shares have fallen after four of the past five earnings reports, though the stock is up 60% over the past 12 months as the Dow Jones Industrial Average has increased 32%.</p>\n<p>Of the 44 analysts tracked by FactSet who cover Apple's stock, 33 have buy ratings, nine have hold ratings and two have sell ratings, with an average price target of $157.88.</p>\n<p><b>What else to watch for</b></p>\n<p>Apple's iPhone business is set up for its second-largest rate of growth in at least three years, behind only what was seen in the previous quarter. Analysts tracked by FactSet are calling for $34.2 billion in iPhone revenue, up 29.4% from a year earlier.</p>\n<p>Some encouraging signals came from Verizon Communications Inc. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/VZ\">$(VZ)$</a>, which recently ran a big iPhone promotion as it sought to match discounts at rival AT&T Inc. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/T\">$(T)$</a></p>\n<p>\"Momentum built throughout the quarter, and we timed our promotions to take full advantage of the economic recovery and increased customer activity,\" Verizon Chief Financial Officer Matthew Ellis said on his company's earnings call. About 20% of Verizon's consumer base is now using 5G-enabled phones .</p>\n<p>Raymond James analyst Chris Caso noted that the quantity of upgrades might not even be the most important factor, as his analysis of iPhone carrier deals from last year found that they can be helpful in driving a greater \"mix\" of more expensive devices.</p>\n<p>\"Consumers appear to have been willing to pay the few dollars per month to upgrade to higher-end models, if the base model was offered for free,\" he wrote, based on analyzing last year's subsidies.</p>\n<p>UBS analyst David Vogt is also feeling upbeat about the business heading into the fiscal third-quarter report, pointing to positive signs in the telecommunications industry like the \"aggressive promotions\" and improving retail traffic at wireless stores.</p>\n<p>But he notes that demand may not be the big issue for Apple, as the company's overall upside is \"gated\" due to supply constraints plaguing the broader electronics industry and beyond. Apple addressed these issues on its earnings call, projecting a $3 billion to $4 billion negative revenue impact in the June quarter that was mainly expected to affect the Mac and iPad businesses.</p>\n<p>Another key narrative is how those two segments held up more generally given a return to more normalized activities outside the home. A strong forecast may imply that the company intends to make its new lineup available during the waning days of its fiscal year, while weaker guidance could suggest the launch will be pushed in to the calendar fourth quarter.\nThe problem this time around is that Apple has held off on issuing a formal outlook for more than a year amid the pandemic, and it remains unclear when or if the company will resume the practice. Apple has instead been offering \"directional insights\" to offer some indication of how its results could stack up to those of prior quarters, but it has been notoriously tight-lipped about plans for iPhone launches.\n\"We expect the timing of iPhone 13 availability will ultimately prove to be the swing factor in [the fiscal fourth quarter], thus we anticipate the company will provide more granular directional commentary,\" wrote Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Co. analyst Brian White.\nThe coming launch is of keen interest given that the current lineup has performed well. \"The iPhone 12 cycle has been strong but we believe the next two cycles may prove challenging with units potentially down [year over year] in FY22 and FY23,\" wrote Barclays analyst Tim Long.\nThe June quarter that Apple will report Tuesday is traditionally a slower one, as consumers wait for the next iPhone launch, but the company is still expected to deliver big growth in its smartphone business. The bank’s analysts said they “hold a very bullish call on earnings for this year” in a note published Monday, and listed their top global picks across a variety of sectors.\nThe analysts, led by JPMorgan’s Mislav Matejka, noted “substantial increases” in 2021 earnings per share (EPS) projections — a key indicator of a company’s profitability— for so-called cyclical stocks and said this trend looked set to continue. Cyclical stocks are those that tend to track the economy’s overall performance.\n“We believe that the next leg higher in equities is upon us,” they added.\nHere are a dozen of their top picks across Europe:\nFinancials\nJPMorgan likes British firms Barclays, M&G and Jupiter, as well as French companies Societe Generaleand BNP Paribas. Also on its list is Dutch firmING, and JPM is overweight all of the stocks. “Sector looks cheap, has underperformed, earnings are improving and stands to benefit from rising bond yields,” the bank’s analysts stated.\nUtilities\nThey also like electricity firms Enel and EDP, and are overweight-rated on the sector as a whole.\nMaterials and industrials\nThe bank’s picks include steel firm Arcelor Mittal, auto maker Volvo, construction materials firm Saint Gobain and electrical supplier Rexel, all of which are rated overweight.\n‘An opportunity’\nJPMorgan’s analysts noted that earnings per share “momentum” was likely reaching a peak, however this should not be negative for stocks. “Activity is expected to remain significantly above trend for the foreseeable future. This could ensure that forward earnings projections keep advancing, and that EPS revisions do not move back persistently into negative territory,” they wrote.\nThere is a widening gap between earnings between cyclicals and defensives — defensives tend to provide consistent earnings regardless of the market in general — with cyclical stocks “overwhelmingly” outperforming defensives, JPMorgan said. And the bank’s analysts think the gap will remain wide: “We do not expect the gap to close through forward earnings of Cyclicals peaking, especially not while the growth delivery is substantially above trend,” the analysts stated.\n“Therefore, this could be an opportunity, in particular if we get a resumption of the upmove in bond yields in 2H [second half],” they added. Today, Wall Street analysts see larger-than-average gains between 35% and 54% for the stocks of <b>Alteryx</b> (NYSE:AYX), <b>Uber Technologies</b> (NYSE:UBER), and <b>Micron Technology</b> (NASDAQ:MU).</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1459afd2cda964bb91343031338eaea0\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Image source: Getty Images.</p>\n<h3>Alteryx: Implied upside of 35%</h3>\n<p>Data analytics software company Alteryx has not only seen its shares fall with its peer group in 2021, but it actually underperformed the sector in 2020 as well. Currently, the stock is down more than 50% from the all-time highs set back in July 2020, and it trades at just 11 times sales, a discount to most of its peers in the SaaS sector.</p>\n<p>There are a couple of reasons for Alteryx's relative underperformance. First, it has to use a strange accounting convention, whereby it recognizes 35%-40% of its contract value upfront, with the rest recognized ratably over time. That can really distort things when new business slows down, or when contract terms compress. That happened with the onset of the pandemic, so it appeared that Alteryx's revenue had plunged. Moreover, new CEO Mark Anderson, who took over in late 2020, is fairly new to the job. He has taken a more focused approach to sales and marketing, concentrating Alteryx's efforts on the largest global companies with more capacity to spend. So that could be why the customer count is slowing -- Alteryx is implementing a strategy of getting its best customers to spend more. On the recent conference call with analysts, Anderson reiterated that he sees \"new and significant expansion opportunities,\" just within the Global 2000 large-cap companies, where Alteryx only has 39% penetration.</p>\n<p>Wall Street analysts appear to believe in Anderson, who has a track record of scaling software businesses, most recently at <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PANW\">Palo Alto Networks</a></b> (NYSE:PANW). The average target among 14 analysts who cover Alteryx stock is $117.71, about 35% upside from current levels.</p>\n<h3>Uber Technologies: Implied upside of 40%</h3>\n<p>With the economic reopening at hand, analysts are also warming up to the world's leading ride-hailing business, Uber Technologies. Obviously, Uber's core ride-hailing business took a big hit during the pandemic; however, the company was able to maintain some level of revenue stability thanks to its food delivery business, which skyrocketed with people stuck at home.</p>\n<p>Food delivery revenue rose 230% last quarter, helped out by the December acquisition of Postmates and helping to offset a 41% year-over-year decline in mobility revenue. Last quarter, food delivery was actually the largest segment by revenue for the first time. Helped out by increased operating leverage, higher take rates, and cost cuts following the Postmates acquisition, Uber's food delivery platform saw adjusted EBITDA losses narrow from $313 million to $200 million last quarter. On the conference call with analysts, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said he expects EBITDA breakeven for the delivery business by year end. The freight business also continued to grow nicely, with revenue up 51% and EBITDA losses improving by 55%.</p>\n<p>Uber has also been streamlining its business, selling off its autonomous vehicle and flying car divisions to start-ups, and management expects the streamlining of the business will lead to profitability in the near term -- at least on an adjusted EBITDA basis.</p>\n<p>The ideal scenario would be for food delivery revenue to stick around due to new habits and work-from-anywhere cultures, with ride-sharing bouncing back strongly and the freight business scaling. Analysts appear to share the sunny outlook, with the average price target among 38 analysts at $68.64, about 40% above current stock levels.</p>\n<h3>Micron Technology: Implied upside of 53.6%</h3>\n<p>Finally, memory chip maker Micron Technology also has lots of upside, according to Wall Street analysts. It may be surprising that Micron is down some 21% from all-time highs, given that memory prices have been rising amid a big chip shortage. Perhaps Micron's participation in the technology sector has contributed to the skepticism.</p>\n<p>What's strange is that Micron, unlike a lot of high-growth software stocks, is really more like a cyclical stock, and appears set for higher profits throughout 2021 and into 2022. In fact, the stock only trades at a mere 7.5 times next year's earnings estimates. Micron has also committed to return at least 50% of free cash flow to shareholders via share repurchases, so the company will likely take advantage of the currently discounted stock price by buying back stock.</p>\n<p>Of course, Micron's share price is quite volatile, so investors should be prepared. Some analysts appear to be looking for the next down cycle, as Micron tends to boom and bust based on memory prices. In fact, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> analyst at Lynx Equity Strategies just downgraded Micron to a sell rating based on the anticipation of memory price slowdowns in the back half of the year; but strangely, that same analyst lowered his price target from $110 to $100, still about 30% higher than today's stock price!</p>\n<p>Fears of a downturn seem a bit premature to me, since memory cycles tend to last a couple years, not just two good quarters. Micron remained profitable in the recent downturn, and could potentially make higher highs in this up cycle. Meanwhile, memory-intensive digitization trends around 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things accelerated during the pandemic, which I wouldn't expect to slow down any time soon.</p>\n<p>Most analysts appear to have a more bullish outlook, with the average price target among 30 analysts covering the stock at $118.62, about 53% higher than the price today. In fact, even the lowest analyst price target is $90, about 18% higher than the current stock price, and the highest price target is $172. Filtering out short-term noise</b></p>\n<p>The second point made by Cathie Wood is at least as important. In her view, Apple stock was under pressure in 2015 and early 2016 due to short-term concerns over smartphone sales in the following couple of quarters, especially after the blockbuster release of the iPhone 6.</p>\n<p>In analyzing market movements, I believe it helps to think about the real drivers of share price: buyers and sellers of the stock.
