receipts for the movie industry this weekend were the lowest in more than two months. It was a cruel summer, but AMC has a box of candy up its sleeve.","content":"
It was a rough weekend at the corner multiplex. Movie theaters across the country had just $61.6 million in gross ticket sales over the weekend, the weakest box office action in more than two months. Horror flick Candyman was the top draw, but in terms of audience counts, the showing proved to be more trick than treat.
\n
This is literally the worst weekend performance of the summer season, and the trend isn't kind. We've seen box office receipts post sequential declines in five of the past seven weeks since peaking with Black Widow's premiere. That particular week in early July was the only weekend that the industry broke above $100 million in ticket sales, a feat that happened every single weekend for movie studios during the 2018 and 2019 peak summer seasons.
\n
An empty theater is obviously a bad look for the industry, flying in the face of the narrative of AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE:AMC) as one of this year's hottest stocks. AMC is nearly a 20-bagger in 2021, but the fumbled momentum for the exhibitors this summer is defying the otherwise buoyant stock chart. Let's take a closer look at what went wrong, and why it's too soon to dismiss AMC's chances to get back on track.
\n
The \"Candyman\" can't
\n
Don't point the finger at Comcast's (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Candyman reboot as the cause for the slump. It's checking in with a solid 85% approval rating for film critics tracked by Rotten Tomatoes. You also can't blame the widespread availability of online streaming options. Candyman (as well as the weekend's second-highest grossing film, Free Guy) are exclusive theatrical releases.
\n
An easier culprit to blame right now could be the delta variant of COVID-19. The summertime surge of the deadly virus is likely keeping people away from indoor social settings, but even that's not a viable lone scapegoat. Box office receipts are 43% below the same period -- the weekend before the Labor Day holiday weekend -- in 2019. It's a safe bet that your local bars, indoor malls, and even restaurants aren't seeing a 43% plunge in sales over the past two years.
\n
This summer was supposed to be the great rebirth of going out to the movies. Studios that had to delay 2020 and even early 2021 releases are now flooding the pipeline. Comcast's Universal Studios, for example, was originally set to put out Candyman 13 months ago. Here we are, a couple of delays later, and audiences failed to materialize despite saying the film title five times in front of a mirror. Less than 1% of the country saw Candyman over the weekend, and less than 2% of the country saw any movie at the multiplex.
\n
The convenience of streaming video entertainment is something that will challenge AMC and its smaller peers. It also obviously doesn't help that folks can freely enjoy movies at home without having to mask up the way that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is suggesting for indoor gatherings at the movie house.
\n
The bullish thesis that summer audiences would build for the multiplex operators has gone the other way. This doesn't mean that the industry is doomed. It doesn't mean that folks have flocked back home after the initial retro novelty of going back to the movies.
\n
More to an AMC-specific point, it doesn't mean that the leading exhibitor took a 43% hit to its top line this weekend relative to where it was two years ago, when its stock was trading much lower. The chain has been gaining market share this year against other movie theater stocks, and it's also getting a lot better at monetizing the experience. Food and beverage purchases per customer were a whopping 42% higher at AMC in the second quarter than they were during the same financial period in 2019.
\n
We're not at the point where the concessions stand is making enough to offset the drop in attendance, but this is the high-margin part of the multiplex model. It's problematic to see the telltale summer season fizzle out this way, but there's still time to go before the end credits start to roll.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Wake Up, AMC Stock: Summer Is Ending
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWake Up, AMC Stock: Summer Is Ending\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-30 22:24 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
It was a rough weekend at the corner multiplex. An increasing need for EVcharging technologyis set to benefit a raft of global stocks, according to the bank, including semiconductor and Big Oil companies, as well as auto suppliers.\nBank of America analysts led by Harry Wyburd flagged a rapid rise in ownership of electric vehicles, with EVs on Europe’s roads up 100% since pre-Covid.\nIn a research note published last week, they wrote: “Our updated charger forecasts see c. [circa] $80bn of potential charging infrastructure investment by 2040E [estimate].”\nThe bank estimates there are currently around nine public charging points per 100 electric vehicles in Europe and expects the number to rise as more of the cars hit the road. BofA also expects “significant” growth in home charging points, with around 60 million electric connectors by 2030.\nBofA’s stock picks include:\nSemiconductors\n“We estimate that power semiconductor demand related to charger deployments in Europe can increase from low tens of millions of US dollars per annum to c$50m per annum by 2025 and c$100m per annum by 2030,” the analysts stated, pickingInfineonandSTMicroas beneficiaries of this.\nOil majors\nBig Oil can create “significant value” from “shifting their equity story to Big Energy,” with more of a focus on decarbonization, according to BofA. Its analysts noted the shift was becoming more urgent for these companies, given shareholder pressure and the Hague District Court’sdemands for Shellto meet climate targets set out in the Paris Agreement.\nThe analysts pickedBP,ShellandTotaland said: “We believe EV charging will grow in importance in linking Big Oil’s existing Marketing footprints (including global brand recognition and backing from their commodity trading desks) with Big Oils’ expansion into electricity supply.”\nAuto suppliers\nValeomakes parts for EVs of all sizes as well as a range of charging components for the likes ofVWand Mercedes. It is buy-rated by BofA, which noted that its joint venture withSiemensnow has around a 40% market share of the high voltage charging sector.\nMetals and mining\nCopper producerAntofagastaand minerBolidenare buy-rated picks for BofA, with copper likely to be a key part of EV chargers as well as inside the vehicle. “New technologies such as renewables, energy storage and electric vehicles that are gaining traction have one thing in common: they require a set of commodities we define as MIFTs, or metals important for future technologies,” BofA’s analysts wrote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":229,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":154983659,"gmtCreate":1625469005571,"gmtModify":1631890850140,"author":{"id":"3579234000534296","authorId":"3579234000534296","name":"Tzuyoda24","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/64c400e046f5471532f593f1806f232a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579234000534296","idStr":"3579234000534296"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls like","listText":"Pls like","text":"Pls like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/154983659","repostId":"1109703914","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1109703914","pubTimestamp":1625464355,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1109703914?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-05 13:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is the Stock Market Open or Closed on Independence Day?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1109703914","media":"Thestreet","summary":"Independence Day in the U.S. is for many a picnic-and-beach day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished with a gain of about 9 points after being up more than 100 points earlier in the session, closing at 34,292.29. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added about 0.2% for its own record of 14,528.33.\nHomebuilder stocks moved higher after S&P Case-Shiller saidhome prices rose more than 14% in Aprilcompared to the prior year. Five U.S. cities, including Seattle, saw their largest annual increase on record. Shares of PulteGroup rose 2%.\nSemiconductor stocks gained strength later in the session, with Skyworks and Advanced Micro Devices climbing 4.5% and 2.8%, respectively. General Electric boosted the industrials sector, rising over 1% afterGoldman Sachs named the stock a top idea.\nThe market has churned out a series of record highs in recent weeks, but the gains have been relatively modest and some strategists have pointed to weak market breadth, measured by the performance of the average stock and the number of individual names making new highs, as a potential area of concern.\nOn Tuesday, there were slightly more declining stocks in the S&P 500 than those that rose during the session.\nHowever, the diminished breadth and volatility could simply be a natural pause during the summer months ahead of the busy earnings season in July, said Bill McMahon, the chief investment officer for active equity strategies at Charles Schwab Investment Management.\n\"I think people are in a little bit of a wait-and-see mode, so it's not surprising to see volatility decline and breadth worsen a tad,\" McMahon said, adding that concern about the spreading Delta variant of Covid-19 could also be weighing on stocks.\nShares of Morgan Stanley jumped more than 3% after the bank said it willdouble its quarterly dividend. The bank also announced a $12 billion stock buyback program. The announcement follows last week's stress tests by the Federal Reserve, which all 23 major banks passed. However, some other bank stocks gave up early gains and weighed on the broader indexes despite increasing their own payout plans.\nThe Conference Board's consumer confidence reading for June came in higher than expected, adding to the bullish readings about the economic recovery.\nWith the market entering the final trading days of June and the second quarter, the S&P 500 is on track to register its fifth straight month of gains. The Nasdaq is pacing for its seventh positive month in the last eight. The Dow, however, is in the red for the month, and on track to snap a four-month winning streak.\nSo far in 2021, the S&P 500 has added 14%, while the Nasdaq has added more than 12% with the Dow close behind.\nJPMorgan quantitative strategist Dubravkos Lakos-Bujas said on CNBC's \"Squawk Box\" that the market appeared to have near-term upside.\n\"The growth policy backdrop in our opinion still remains supportive for risk assets in general, certainly including equities. At the same time, the positioning is not really stretched to where we are in a problematic territory. So we do think there is still a runway. ... The summer period, the next two months, is where I think the market continues to break out,\" the strategist the largest American cryptocurrency exchange platform, has announced the launch of Polkadot (DOT) on Coinbase Pro (COIN).\nWhile the platform will officially enable trading on or after June 16th, 9:00 AM Pacific Time (PT), Coinbase Pro wallets began accepting DOT transfers from users on June 14th. As per the blog release, Coinbase Pro clients will gain access to multiple trading pairs, including DOT/BTC, DOT/USD, DOT/GBP, DOT/USDT, and DOT/EUR once the required liquidity is achieved. (See Coinbase Stock Chart on TipRanks)\nThese trading pairs will launch in three phases with Coinbase Pro continually assessing market trends: post-only, limit-only, and full trading. Coinbase officials added, “If at any point one of the new order books does not meet our assessment for a healthy and orderly market, we may keep the book in one state for a longer period of time or suspend trading as per our Trading Rules. We will publish tweets from our Coinbase Pro Twitter account as each order book moves through the phases.”\nThe DOT token isn’t currently available on Coinbase’s mobile app or its website, although the exchange has reassured users that any plan to add DOT will be announced, if and when the feature is enabled outside Coinbase Pro. The platform has also clarified that DOT will be available for clients in all countries where the exchange is licensed to operate, except for Singapore.\nCoinbase Pro currently supports 50 cryptocurrencies, including 1inch (1INCH), Ankr (ANKR), Ampleforth Governance Token (FORTH), Cardano (ADA), Cartesi (CTSI), Curve DAO Token (CRV), Dogecoin (DOGE), Enjin Coin (ENJ), iExec (RLC), Internet Computer (ICP), Mirror Protocol (MIR), NKN (NKN), Origin Token (OGN), Polygon (MATIC), SKALE (SKL), Storj (STORJ), SushiSwap (SUSHI), Tellor (TRB), Tether (USDT), and more.\nPolkadot, an open-source project associated with the Web3 Foundation, enables cross-blockchain transfers of any type of data or asset. The ecosystem is designed to give consumers the ability to interoperate with other blockchains in the Polkadot network.\nThe DOT token powers the Polkadot network, serving the purposes of governance, staking, and bonding. Additionally, the holders of DOT tokens perform several key functions within the Polkadot ecosystem, including acting as validators, collators, nominators, and participating in the decision-making process for Polkadot’s future upgrades and changes.\nThe Polkadot (DOT) listing on Coinbase Pro comes as a huge boost for the fast-rising DOT token. At the time of writing, DOT tokens traded at $24.67, exhibiting a 24-hour volume of $3.13 billion.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":85,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":169368987,"gmtCreate":1623817480749,"gmtModify":1631892545892,"author":{"id":"3579234000534296","authorId":"3579234000534296","name":"Tzuyoda24","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/64c400e046f5471532f593f1806f232a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579234000534296","idStr":"3579234000534296"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"……………………………","listText":"……………………………","text":"……………………………","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/169368987","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":69,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":377475995,"gmtCreate":1619563392017,"gmtModify":1631892545906,"author":{"id":"3579234000534296","authorId":"3579234000534296","name":"Tzuyoda24","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/64c400e046f5471532f593f1806f232a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579234000534296","idStr":"3579234000534296"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Noice","listText":"Noice","text":"Noice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/377475995","repostId":"1180306556","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":205,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":374726607,"gmtCreate":1619481927709,"gmtModify":1631892545919,"author":{"id":"3579234000534296","authorId":"3579234000534296","name":"Tzuyoda24","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/64c400e046f5471532f593f1806f232a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579234000534296","idStr":"3579234000534296"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hm","listText":"Hm","text":"Hm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/374726607","repostId":"2130071345","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":184,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":154983659,"gmtCreate":1625469005571,"gmtModify":1631890850140,"author":{"id":"3579234000534296","authorId":"3579234000534296","name":"Tzuyoda24","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/64c400e046f5471532f593f1806f232a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579234000534296","idStr":"3579234000534296"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls like","listText":"Pls like","text":"Pls like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/154983659","repostId":"1109703914","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1109703914","pubTimestamp":1625464355,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1109703914?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-05 13:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is the Stock Market Open or Closed on Independence Day?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1109703914","media":"Thestreet","summary":"Independence Day in the U.S. is for many a picnic-and-beach day. “New technologies such as renewables, energy storage and electric vehicles that are gaining traction have one thing in common: they require a set of commodities we define as MIFTs, or metals important for future technologies,” BofA’s analysts wrote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":229,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":374299148,"gmtCreate":1619447076184,"gmtModify":1634273388714,"author":{"id":"3579234000534296","authorId":"3579234000534296","name":"Tzuyoda24","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/64c400e046f5471532f593f1806f232a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579234000534296","idStr":"3579234000534296"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"F","listText":"F","text":"F","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/374299148","repostId":"1149183354","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1149183354","pubTimestamp":1619440351,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1149183354?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-26 20:32","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Archegos Collapse Exposes an SEC Blind Spot","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1149183354","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"No financial market is without its risks, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned in a career as a sec","content":"
No financial market is without its risks, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned in a career as a securities regulator, market chairman, corporate director and investor, it’s this: The more you know, the less risk you take.
\n
That's why I support greater disclosure requirements for the kinds of investments that are often held in the shadows, away from public scrutiny and awareness despite their size and potential impact on other investors and markets.
\n
Private investors, hedge funds and others have long been able to take short positions in companies — betting against their future rise in value — without disclosure. And with the collapse of Archegos Capital Management, greater attention is now being paid to the ability of institutional investors and money managers to hold highly complex and risky derivative-based investments without letting anyone know — including their own investors and counterparties.
\n
This can't continue. First of all, disclosure requirements shouldn’t treat certain kinds of investments differently than others. If a hedge fund or investor takes a major long position in a company, defined as greater than 5% of outstanding shares, that has to be disclosed. Why shouldn’t the same standard apply to the same investor taking a major short position?
\n
More critically, greater disclosure helps markets price risk better. Financial crises and major losses often emerge from unseen and undisclosed risks, when nobody understands the size of the potential problem until it’s too late. We always hear after these explosions: “If only we had known.” Right now, the knowing isn't possible. There’s no reason for these risky investments to be disclosed publicly because it’s not required.
\n
The Securities and Exchange Commission and its new Chairman Gary Gensler can and should fix this. Ample and timely disclosure requirements similar to 13F and 13G filings on major short positions and derivative-based strategies would give market participants the information they need to better understand the risks they take, whether they want to be on the other side of those positions or join them.
\n
This is an urgent matter. More of today’s financial markets are controlled by complex, derivative-based and highly leveraged investment strategies. They are often bespoke and hard to value at any given time. And too often, investors in these strategies — including highly sophisticated investors, endowments and other funds — are being told to accept their merits on faith, as well as the risk that goes with them.
\n
Maybe this is fine for some investors, especially those receiving an attractive return. But there is risk in any investment, and the person who takes a large position using an inscrutable strategy is himself a source of unseen risk. A highly leveraged strategy can involve people and institutions who had no idea they were depending on the success of a complex instrument. The cascading effect, as we know from the global financial crisis, is profound. And unseen.
\n
I'm aware, of course, that disclosure requirements can be expensive and create complexity. They may also deprive investors of the secrecy their strategies depend on. But think of the overriding benefits: Greater disclosure brings greater transparency, which leads to healthy markets. The more you know, the less risk you take.
\n
I saw it firsthand at the SEC, which I led for eight years. There, we introduced several important disclosure requirements that revolutionized Wall Street’s practices and brought greater confidence in, for example, financial audits, the release of material information to the public, mutual funds pricing, performance ratings and risk profiles. When we first proposed greater disclosure requirements for these areas, we were told it would be too expensive and too radical. Now, investors and public companies embrace them.
\n
That being said, disclosure can often be used to hide, not reveal. At the SEC I fought hard for “plain language” requirements in prospectuses for companies and mutual funds. It seemed to me then, and still does today, that a convoluted or deliberately dense prospectus is as good as no prospectus as all. Disclosure is not the same as transparency.
\n
I've also seen lawyers use disclosure requirements to present a picture of reality that is opposite the truth. We must remember that the complexity of derivative-based strategies is not a bug but a feature. And with the collapse of Archegos Capital Management, greater attention is now being paid to the ability of institutional investors and money managers to hold highly complex and risky derivative-based investments without letting anyone know — including their own investors and counterparties.\nThis can't continue. First of all, disclosure requirements shouldn’t treat certain kinds of investments differently than others. If a hedge fund or investor takes a major long position in a company, defined as greater than 5% of outstanding shares, that has to be disclosed. Why shouldn’t the same standard apply to the same investor taking a major short position?\nMore critically, greater disclosure helps markets price risk better. Financial crises and major losses often emerge from unseen and undisclosed risks, when nobody understands the size of the potential problem until it’s too late. We always hear after these explosions: “If only we had known.” Right now, the knowing isn't possible. There’s no reason for these risky investments to be disclosed publicly because it’s not required.\nThe Securities and Exchange Commission and its new Chairman Gary Gensler can and should fix this. Ample and timely disclosure requirements similar to 13F and 13G filings on major short positions and derivative-based strategies would give market participants the information they need to better understand the risks they take, whether they want to be on the other side of those positions or join them.\nThis is an urgent matter. More of today’s financial markets are controlled by complex, derivative-based and highly leveraged investment strategies. They are often bespoke and hard to value at any given time. And too often, investors in these strategies — including highly sophisticated investors, endowments and other funds — are being told to accept their merits on faith, as well as the risk that goes with them.\nMaybe this is fine for some investors, especially those receiving an attractive return. And unseen.\nI'm aware, of course, that disclosure requirements can be expensive and create complexity. They may also deprive investors of the secrecy their strategies depend on. But think of the overriding benefits: Greater disclosure brings greater transparency, which leads to healthy markets. The more you know, the less risk you take.\nI saw it firsthand at the SEC, which I led for eight years. Now, investors and public companies embrace them.\nThat being said, disclosure can often be used to hide, not reveal. At the SEC I fought hard for “plain language” requirements in prospectuses for companies and mutual funds. It seemed to me then, and still does today, that a convoluted or deliberately dense prospectus is as good as no prospectus as all. Disclosure is not the same as transparency.\nI've also seen lawyers use disclosure requirements to present a picture of reality that is opposite the truth. We must remember that the complexity of derivative-based strategies is not a bug but a feature. Any eventual rule should have one overriding goal: Explain the investment as clearly as possible and, importantly, its potential risks, including the amount of potential loss the investment entails.\nThere is yet another good reason for the SEC to act energetically to promote greater and more useful disclosure requirements: The investing public wants it. Whether it’s in the area of shareholder activism, or the claims made by companies regarding their environmental, social or governance (ESG) efforts, or their political contributions, investors want to know more about how their companies are performing.\nThis is a good thing. In fact, it’s the very best expression of free market economics. Free people want to make informed decisions about how they invest their money. That’s no impingement on a free market. While stock splits don't impact a company's valuation directly, they can attract greater numbers of small investors.
\n
However, there are plenty of even better reasons to like NVIDIA that have nothing to do with its stock split. The most obvious one is the company's gaming business.
\n
Gaming remains NVIDIA's biggest moneymaker, generating $2.8 billion of the company's total revenue of nearly $5.7 billion in the first quarter of 2021. And business is booming. NVIDIA's gaming revenue more than doubled year over year.
\n
It isn't just that gaming is increasing in popularity (although that is the case).
I'm doing it again this week. I'm a Tesla shareholder and car owner. I think the electric car maker will continue to beat the market over time, but there's a lot riding on Tesla's plans to take a big step in autonomous driving this month.
\n
Drivers have paid as much as $10,000 to unlock the car's full self-driving mode, and Musk mentioned that the beta test should expand later this month to allow all of the premium payers to be able to opt into the platform. The rub is that the updates continue to be buggy. Tesla is well ahead of the competition when it comes to autonomous driving, but a lot of drivers are paying up for a feature they can't fully use -- and Tesla doesn't factor in what customers paid for full-self driving when it comes time to trade in their cars.
\n
Musk even tweeted on Saturday that self-driving is a big reason Tesla's stock is valued at such a steep premium to rival automakers. Tesla bears picked the comment apart, but the bulls may also have some near-term concerns about having so much riding on a feature that's still not ready for primetime.
\n
\n To be fair, investors are giving us significant credit for achieving self-driving, given that Tesla's valuation/production is very high compared to other automakers\n
\n
Musk suggested months ago, only to come up short, that full self-driving should be in public opt-in beta. With the new date now as early as next week, it could rattle shareholders and Tesla owners alike if Musk fails to deliver. I'm fine holding on to the stock for the long haul, but this month could get challenging.
\n
Spirit Airlines
\n
I've picked on the legacy carriers in the wake of the pandemic, but it's time to take a shot at the low end of the aviation market. Spirit is famous -- or infamous, if you will -- for its dirt-cheap fares where everything from an assigned seat to a carry-on beyond a small personal item costs extra.
\n
The recovery for the airline industry is taking longer than many expected, and the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the wake of new variants isn't making things any easier.
