is finishin","content":"

As another difficult day for financial markets winds to a close,Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA) stock is finishing in the red yet again. Theelectric vehicle(EV) producer has been forced to weather the current storm which has been caused in part by the brewing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Like many of its peers, TSLA stock has been struggling today. However, although the company announced some bad news, investors shouldn’t be concerned in the long run.

Here’s what investors should know about Tesla moving forward.

What’s Happening with TSLA Stock

Today marked a continuation of TSLA stock’s losing streak. Shares began falling after markets opened this morning and proved unable to rebound. As of this writing, the stock is down 7% for the day.

That isn’t the only recent bad news for the company, though. Specifically,Electrekreportsthat Brian Dow, Tesla’s Director of Engineering, is leaving the company to take a position at Generac (NYSE:GNRC). The company is a leading producer of energy storage solutions.

Still, while this isn’t great news for Tesla, it also isn’t a reason for investors to panic.

Why It Matters

It makes sense that a company like Generac would want to poach a leader like Brian Dow. Having been at Tesla for more than five years, Dow has played a significant role in the company’s recent growth. Tesla is known as an EV producer, but it has also been gaining a foothold in the field of energy storage solutions. This is exactly the market in which Generac is a dominant player.

Generac’s primary interest in Dow seems to lie in a desire to rival the Powerwall, Tesla’s home energy storage system created to eliminate the standard backup generator. According to Tesla’s website, the device“detects outages and automatically recharges with sunlight.”

This type of device gives us a good look into the future of home energy storage. Specifically, it looks sleek and refined and recharges using renewable solar energy. Generac is making clear moves to adapt and not be outdone by Tesla. However, the company should note that Tesla has the same advantage it brought to the EV race.

What It Means for Tesla

People may not think of energy storage when they think of Tesla. When they do, though, they think of the Powerwall. Tesla was the first company to bring such a device into the mainstream, showing consumers how they could power their homes in the future. Consumers will likely also be most familiar with the Powerwall moving forward.

It’s for this reason that, even if Generac is able to engineer their own rival to the Powerwall soon, it shouldn’t harm TSLA stock too much. Competition from EV producers is increasing all the time, but Tesla remains themost searchedEV brand because it showed consumers the future of transportation. Plus, energy storage isn’t Tesla’s primary function as a company. So, even if it did lose a substantial piece of market share, stock prices shouldn’t suffer any permanent damage.

Most stocks are struggling right now. Investors were not at all happy about the significant cash burn in the company's Reality Labs segment, which is focused on building the metaverse, and in the weaker-than-expected forward guidance.

Meta's stock price fell 22% in after-hours trading following the report's release (and has stayed down), but there are strong arguments in support of investors buying into that weakness. The company's impeccable track record of financial performance suggests it deserves the benefit of the doubt, especially given the opportunities ahead.

Here are two key reasons to buy this dip.

1. The huge potential of the metaverse is worth the billions being invested

Meta Platforms is the largest social media company in the world, with its Facebook asset alone used by 2.91 billion people every month -- a startling 36% of the entire global population. But still, the company refuses to slip into complacency, as evidenced by its sizeable (and increasing) investment in the metaverse.

This new virtual world is being constructed by Meta's Reality Labs segment, which the company now reports separately from the rest of its platforms. It believes that in the future, its users will exist as virtual avatars of themselves within the metaverse, where they can teleport to different experiences and carry inventories of digital goods. That presents a significant financial opportunity for Meta Platforms, because the metaverse could feature its own self-sustaining economy.

But when the company revealed its fourth-quarter 2021 result, investors were surprised at just how much money was being spent on this project.

While it appears the Reality Labs segment is bleeding an increasing amount of red ink, Meta Platforms is playing the long game. One estimate by Bloomberg Intelligence suggests themetaversewill be an $800 billion opportunity by 2024, with a 12.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) that could see it double to $1.6 trillion by the end of this decade alone. Therefore, in context, the $10.1 billion Reality Labs lost during 2021 could be a mere drop in the ocean compared to its future revenue potential.

2. The stock is a great value

Despite Meta's substantial commitment to building the metaverse, the company as a whole is making a significant amount of money. For the 2021 full year, it reported $39.3 billion in operating income, which translated into $13.77 inearnings per share.

Its stock trades at $239 right now, placing itsprice-to-earnings multipleat just 17.1. That's 50% cheaper than the technology-centric Nasdaq-100 index, which trades at a multiple of 33.7. Meta has a stellar track record of revenue and earnings growth over the last decade, which likely warrants a much richer stock valuation.

But putting the past aside, the short term might be bumpy as Meta contends with recent changes to user privacy policies forApple's iOS andAlphabet's Google Andriod OS, which are making it harder for advertisers to accurately target their desired audiences. That, combined with lingering supply chain issues hurting businesses' appetite to spend on marketing, prompted Meta to issue conservative guidance for the first quarter of 2022.

There is another concern. Facebook saw its first sequential quarterly decline in daily active users in company history, and although it was a mere 0.05% contraction in user base, it highlights the difficulty in generating growth for a single platform with over 1.9 billion users. But on the plus side, Meta recorded an average revenue per user of $9.39 for the fourth quarter, its highest in at least two years.

Investor takeaway

Meta is an incredibly innovative company, so issues like ad targeting and short-term supply chain issues will likely be overcome given enough time. It favors a long-term investment approach, especially given the opportunity in the metaverse that lies ahead. If the new virtual world grows as large as some estimates suggest, the company's future financial performance could trounce anything it has achieved in the past. Therefore, picking up Meta Platforms stock on this dip could be a game-changer for your portfolio.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Big Reasons to Buy the Dip in Meta Platforms' Stock
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Big Reasons to Buy the Dip in Meta Platforms' Stock\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-04 11:48 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Key PointsThe metaverse could be a $1.6 trillion opportunity by 2030.The opportunity dwarfs the cash that Meta's Reality Labs segment is burning trying to build it.Meta Platforms, the parent company ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2022/02/03/2-big-reasons-buy-the-dip-in-meta-platforms-stock/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1180306841","content_text":"Key PointsThe metaverse could be a $1.6 trillion opportunity by 2030.The opportunity dwarfs the cash that Meta's Reality Labs segment is burning trying to build it.Meta Platforms, the parent company of popular social media apps Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, reported its full-year 2021 earnings on Feb. 2. Therefore, picking up Meta Platforms stock on this dip could be a game-changer for your portfolio.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":876,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":633351068,"gmtCreate":1643796763730,"gmtModify":1643796763730,"author":{"id":"3575366246928299","authorId":"3575366246928299","name":"TT75","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575366246928299","authorIdStr":"3575366246928299"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pltr is the next big growth stock","listText":"Pltr is the next big growth stock","text":"Pltr is the next big growth stock","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/633351068","repostId":"2208309743","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":915,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":633353563,"gmtCreate":1643796601157,"gmtModify":1643796601157,"author":{"id":"3575366246928299","authorId":"3575366246928299","name":"TT75","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575366246928299","authorIdStr":"3575366246928299"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good one there","listText":"Good one there","text":"Good one there","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/633353563","repostId":"2208357964","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":793,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":633946431,"gmtCreate":1643710475640,"gmtModify":1643710475773,"author":{"id":"3575366246928299","authorId":"3575366246928299","name":"TT75","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575366246928299","authorIdStr":"3575366246928299"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$pltr now is definitely undervalued","listText":"$pltr now is definitely undervalued","text":"$pltr now is definitely undervalued","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/633946431","repostId":"1197842729","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1197842729","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1643674410,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1197842729?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-02-01 08:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is Palantir's Stock Too Cheap? "

How can a company that's been in existence almost 20 years still be such a mystery to so many? My answer is: it's part of the plan.

I have written about Palantir before in this article "Palantir Is About Data And Data Is The Future ". In that article, I argued that the huge amount of data both existing and massively accumulating, is to artificial intelligence like raw meat is to a lion. If AI is indeed about data then something has to feed it, just like the lion. That something is Palantir.

In this article, I will attempt to define PLTR as an operating system sitting on top of a user's various and sundry systems in order to easily access and order myriad data sources quickly and legibly.

Here are four ways PLTR resembles Microsoft (MSFT) the most famous and successful operating system developer in history.

1. Palantir sits on top of other systems just like Windows does.

What do operating systems do? They sit on top of everything else including data, software, operations, etc. They manage everything underneath them so nothing gets out of control. In my estimation, the best, most descriptive name for an operating system is one I worked on decades ago: Master Control Program {MCP} from Unisys (see here). In fact, the name is so good it has been borrowed by the hugely successful Tron game (see here).

That's what Gotham and Foundry do: they control what's beneath them, mainly huge amounts of uncorrelated data from various and sundry sources. They then use those results to feed the huge, voracious maw of AI.

Think about Windows for example.

Under Windows, you could convert a PDF file to a Word document, the Word document to text, the text file to Excel, and the Excel file into PowerPoint or SQL Server.

Multiply the complexity of the data sources and endpoints by about 1,000 times and you have what Palantir does. But still, it is about mastering control and that's what operating systems do.

2. Gotham and Foundry are not the end but only the beginning.

Many years ago I bought an IBM PC with a 5MB (yep, MB not GB or TB) hard drive for a client to run his payroll on. It was running MS-DOS and Microsoft basic.

Fast forward 30 some years later and we now have Microsoft Azure running every imaginable application for every imaginable customer on the cloud. And little old MS-DOS is now Office 365 many times connected to Windows Server.

The point here is there is much more to come from PLTR in future years other than Gotham and Foundry. I am certain those new applications are in process as we speak.

Where exactly will PLTR's systems be in 5, 10, or 20 years? I certainly don't know but I am willing to bet (by owning the stock) it will more than likely resemble Microsoft's historic path than say Oracle's.

Per Palantir's COO Shyam Sankar:

Of course, trillion dollar is well short of our ambition over the next 10 years. We always have and will always continue to focus on building cutting-edge product that the world needs anticipating the future, operating with precision, building before the need is obvious,

Source:Seeking Alpha

So "building before the need is obvious" means there is much more coming from Palantir and, in fact, some of it is already on the way. Just like Microsoft, PLTR is building for a future that is unknown on the one hand but certain in others - there will be massively more data to be analyzed and whoever does it best will be the next Microsoft.

3. Palantir's next 10 years could be like Microsoft's early years.

Since Palantir was in business for 17 years before it went public I am going to compare PLTR to MSFT beginning in 1992 about 17 years after it was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. MSFT's revenue in 1992 was about $1.5 billion close to Palantir's revenue of $1.1 billion in 2020.

Just as a curiosity, let's look at MSFT's 3, 5, and 10-year future returns based upon the billion-plus revenue of 1992.

NASDAQ and Author

Note Palantir was also founded by two well-known tech investors Peter Thiel and Alex Karp. A little older than Microsoft's founders and perhaps a little wiser too.

The hair is a little different but notice each picture has one guy in a sweater and one guy in a suit. That may or may not represent a strong investment correlation.

The equivalent stock performance for PLTR from the initial listing date to now would be as shown below.

Some analysts say PLTR is vastly overvalued and looking at the chart below you can see the logic of that argument. Both software companies were up 400%, but one in four months and one in five years.

NASDAQ and author

4. SBC (Stock Based Compensation) doesn't seem to have hurt Microsoft.

One of the arguments Palantir critics often mention is an over-reliance on SBC driving up the PLTR share count from about 900 million in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to about two billion in the 3rd quarter of 2021.

Seeking Alpha

Of course, those numbers do not include options provided to employees that have not been cashed in yet.

But if you look at MSFT, they have generated four billionaires and at least 12,000 millionaires.

The company's 1986initial public offering(IPO), and subsequent rise in its share price, created three billionaires and an estimated 12,000 millionaires among Microsoft employees.

Source:Wikipedia

Add Steve Ballmer's $120 billion to the billionaire's list(see here)although he came to the party later. I am sure Steve had a ton ofSBC.

As a comparison to MSFT's 12,000 millionaires, PLTR only has about 3,000 employees.

Since MSFT currently has a market value of $2.5 trillion versus PLTR $40 billion, it would be hard to argue that SBC will hold PLTR back long-term.

Conclusion:

Artificial Intelligence without data (lots of data) is like Artificial Flowers - pretty, but borderline useless.

That's why PLTR's current data acquisition/manipulation operating systems, Foundry and Gotham, are so important to their AI efforts. Those who have the best quality data will have the best AI.

There can be little doubt that data and its related AI will be everywhere soon, from your phone to your TV to your garage door opener.

And we are not talking about just digital data either. There will be data acquisition of voice, terrain, faxes, encrypted messages, texts, photographs, physical movements, people, and things.

How about the distance, speed, and spin of every golf stroke on the PGA Tour?

And Steph Curry's individual finger grip pressure, ball rotation, and tightness of his shoestrings on every 30-foot 3-pointer he makes?

While the current estimates for the amount of data available and captured over the next 5, 10, or 20 years are high and growing, I think it is still vastly underestimated.

That's what Palantir knows and why it is an excellent long-term investment.

Buy PLTR if you have a long-term investment plan. Here are four ways PLTR resembles Microsoft (MSFT) the most famous and successful operating system developer in history.1. They then use those results to feed the huge, voracious maw of AI.Think about Windows for example.Under Windows, you could convert a PDF file to a Word document, the Word document to text, the text file to Excel, and the Excel file into PowerPoint or SQL Server.Multiply the complexity of the data sources and endpoints by about 1,000 times and you have what Palantir does. But still, it is about mastering control and that's what operating systems do.2. Gotham and Foundry are not the end but only the beginning. Many years ago I bought an IBM PC with a 5MB (yep, MB not GB or TB) hard drive for a client to run his payroll on. It was running MS-DOS and Microsoft basic.Fast forward 30 some years later and we now have Microsoft Azure running every imaginable application for every imaginable customer on the cloud. And little old MS-DOS is now Office 365 many times connected to Windows Server. The point here is there is much more to come from PLTR in future years other than Gotham and Foundry. I am certain those new applications are in process as we speak.Where exactly will PLTR's systems be in 5, 10, or 20 years? I certainly don't know but I am willing to bet (by owning the stock) it will more than likely resemble Microsoft's historic path than say Oracle's.Per Palantir's COO Shyam Sankar:Of course, trillion dollar is well short of our ambition over the next 10 years. We always have and will always continue to focus on building cutting-edge product that the world needs anticipating the future, operating with precision, building before the need is obvious,Source:Seeking AlphaSo \"building before the need is obvious\" means there is much more coming from Palantir and, in fact, some of it is already on the way. Just like Microsoft, PLTR is building for a future that is unknown on the one hand but certain in others - there will be massively more data to be analyzed and whoever does it best will be the next Microsoft.3. Palantir's next 10 years could be like Microsoft's early years.Since Palantir was in business for 17 years before it went public I am going to compare PLTR to MSFT beginning in 1992 about 17 years after it was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. MSFT's revenue in 1992 was about $1.5 billion close to Palantir's revenue of $1.1 billion in 2020.Just as a curiosity, let's look at MSFT's 3, 5, and 10-year future returns based upon the billion-plus revenue of 1992.NASDAQ and AuthorNote Palantir was also founded by two well-known tech investors Peter Thiel and Alex Karp. A little older than Microsoft's founders and perhaps a little wiser too.The hair is a little different but notice each picture has one guy in a sweater and one guy in a suit. That may or may not represent a strong investment correlation. The equivalent stock performance for PLTR from the initial listing date to now would be as shown below. Some analysts say PLTR is vastly overvalued and looking at the chart below you can see the logic of that argument. Both software companies were up 400%, but one in four months and one in five years.NASDAQ and author4. SBC (Stock Based Compensation) doesn't seem to have hurt Microsoft. One of the arguments Palantir critics often mention is an over-reliance on SBC driving up the PLTR share count from about 900 million in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to about two billion in the 3rd quarter of 2021.Seeking AlphaOf course, those numbers do not include options provided to employees that have not been cashed in yet.But if you look at MSFT, they have generated four billionaires and at least 12,000 millionaires. The company's 1986initial public offering(IPO), and subsequent rise in its share price, created three billionaires and an estimated 12,000 millionaires among Microsoft employees.Source:WikipediaAdd Steve Ballmer's $120 billion to the billionaire's list(see here)although he came to the party later. I am sure Steve had a ton ofSBC.As a comparison to MSFT's 12,000 millionaires, PLTR only has about 3,000 employees.Since MSFT currently has a market value of $2.5 trillion versus PLTR $40 billion, it would be hard to argue that SBC will hold PLTR back long-term.Conclusion:Artificial Intelligence without data (lots of data) is like Artificial Flowers - pretty, but borderline useless. That's why PLTR's current data acquisition/manipulation operating systems, Foundry and Gotham, are so important to their AI efforts. Those who have the best quality data will have the best AI.There can be little doubt that data and its related AI will be everywhere soon, from your phone to your TV to your garage door opener. That's what Palantir knows and why it is an excellent long-term investment.Buy PLTR if you have a long-term investment plan. It will prosper in any economic environment.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1154,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":639786701,"gmtCreate":1643453786335,"gmtModify":1643453786335,"author":{"id":"3575366246928299","authorId":"3575366246928299","name":"TT75","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575366246928299","authorIdStr":"3575366246928299"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sundial go","listText":"Sundial go","text":"Sundial go","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/639786701","repostId":"1171139951","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1171139951","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1643363579,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1171139951?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-28 17:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Meme Stocks Rebounded in Premarket Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1171139951","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Meme stocks rebounded in premarket trading, Microvision jumped over 4%, and Sundial Growers rose ove","content":"

Meme stocks rebounded in premarket trading, Microvision jumped over 4%, and Sundial Growers rose over 3%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; That offered some relief. Looking ahead, investors should keep a couple of moving averages in mind when thinking about where Tesla stock is headed in the short run.

Shares of Tesla were down 9.8% to $851.47 at Monday’s lows. They bounced back, up more than $78, to close at $930, a 1.5% drop. Nearly all stocks rebounded, but Tesla fared worse than the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average — both of which were up 0.3% on the day. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.6%.

It was, frankly, a wild day for markets. The Dow was down more than 1,000 points at one point—and it has never closed positive after being down at least 1,000 points, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The Nasdaq Composite was down 4.9% at its low. It posted the largest comeback to close into the green since Oct. 10, 2008, when the index was down 6.2%, but closed up 0.3%.

Monday’s action adds to the wild recent ride for Tesla stock. Shares started the year like a rocket, soaring 13.5% in the first trading session after fourth-quarter deliveries smashed expectations. The company delivered almost 309,000 vehicles; Wall Street was expecting roughly 270,000.

But then rising interest rates, inflation. and macroeconomic fears started to drag down high-growth stocks. From that first trading session though Monday, shares are down about 22%. The Nasdaq Composite was off about 12%.

Nothing seems to be fundamentally wrong. Rising rates simply hurt fast-growing stocks more. Growth companies generate most of their earnings and cash flow far in the future—and that future cash flow becomes worth less in today’s dollars when discounted back at a higher rate.

With fundamentals apparently not the problem, Tesla stock is in the hands of the traders who—oftentimes—look at charts and patterns to determine when a stock has fallen too deep.

Tesla looked in trouble after shares fell below both their 50-day and 100-day moving averages last week. Moving averages are one of the important metrics used by traders. A stock can find support at one moving average but also can have trouble breaking through another one when shares are rising.

With Tesla at $930 a share, the next significant benchmark on the downside is the auto maker’s 200-day moving average of about $810 a share. There are many other technical indicators to watch, but that moving average is key for investors to watch in coming days. It should be the worse-case scenario for shares if the selling hasn’t stopped.

Tesla stock’s 100-day moving average is about $960. If shares can punch through that, then they could head back above $1,000. The stock’s 50-day moving average is about $1,050. That could represent the next level of resistance in an up market.

Tesla is set to report fourth-quarter earnings on Wednesday evening, and a beat could stem the tide of recent selling pressure. Analysts are projecting Tesla to earn about $2.30 a share, and the highest estimates are nearly $3. Anything close to that number should give the stock a boost. That offered some relief. Looking ahead, investors should keep a couple of moving averages in mind when thinking about where Tesla stock is headed in the short run.Shares of Tesla were down 9.8% to $851.47 at Monday’s lows. They bounced back, up more than $78, to close at $930, a 1.5% drop. Nearly all stocks rebounded, but Tesla fared worse than the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average — both of which were up 0.3% on the day. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.6%.It was, frankly, a wild day for markets. The Dow was down more than 1,000 points at one point—and it has never closed positive after being down at least 1,000 points, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The Nasdaq Composite was down 4.9% at its low. It posted the largest comeback to close into the green since Oct. 10, 2008, when the index was down 6.2%, but closed up 0.3%.Monday’s action adds to the wild recent ride for Tesla stock. Shares started the year like a rocket, soaring 13.5% in the first trading session after fourth-quarter deliveries smashed expectations. The company delivered almost 309,000 vehicles; Wall Street was expecting roughly 270,000.But then rising interest rates, inflation. and macroeconomic fears started to drag down high-growth stocks. From that first trading session though Monday, shares are down about 22%. The Nasdaq Composite was off about 12%.Nothing seems to be fundamentally wrong. Rising rates simply hurt fast-growing stocks more. Growth companies generate most of their earnings and cash flow far in the future—and that future cash flow becomes worth less in today’s dollars when discounted back at a higher rate. With fundamentals apparently not the problem, Tesla stock is in the hands of the traders who—oftentimes—look at charts and patterns to determine when a stock has fallen too deep.Tesla looked in trouble after shares fell below both their 50-day and 100-day moving averages last week. It should be the worse-case scenario for shares if the selling hasn’t stopped.Tesla stock’s 100-day moving average is about $960. If shares can punch through that, then they could head back above $1,000. The stock’s 50-day moving average is about $1,050. That could represent the next level of resistance in an up market.Tesla is set to report fourth-quarter earnings on Wednesday evening, and a beat could stem the tide of recent selling pressure. Analysts are projecting Tesla to earn about $2.30 a share, and the highest estimates are nearly $3. Anything close to that number should give the stock a boost. Tesla’s growth is so steep, a comparison with the year-ago fourth quarter isn’t meaningful, but the company earned $1.86 a share in the most recent third quarter.Of course, the market could stop dropping too. That would ease the pressure on Tesla stock as well.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":328,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":630273371,"gmtCreate":1642944389197,"gmtModify":1642944389197,"author":{"id":"3575366246928299","authorId":"3575366246928299","name":"TT75","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575366246928299","authorIdStr":"3575366246928299"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sofi!","listText":"Sofi!","text":"Sofi!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/630273371","repostId":"2205248240","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2205248240","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1642898373,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2205248240?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-23 08:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here's Why SoFi's Long-Awaited Bank Charter Will Make the Business Better","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2205248240","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Regulators have granted SoFi conditional approval on its application to become a bank.","content":"

After a difficult few months for the stock, SoFi (NASDAQ:SOFI) shareholders got some welcome news recently when regulators approved the company's application to become a bank. So, most fintechs tend to partner with licensed banks to do things like hold the deposits they gather from their members (unlicensed banks can't hold deposits on their balance sheet) and originate loans for them in some cases. This typically involves some kind of revenue share. Additionally, because banks can't use deposits to fund loan originations, they have to use higher-cost funding.

One of the main benefits of the bank charter will be enabling SoFi to lower its interest expense, which is the interest SoFi pays on the debt it uses to fund assets such as loans. According to its recent regulatory filing, the company's current funding sources for originations include securitization debt and funding from warehouse facilities. SoFi pays interest on this funding of nearly 4% and 1.6%, respectively. This funding is also not as reliable in certain market conditions. Currently, most savings and checking accounts pay out very little interest, and even a lot of high-yield savings accounts pay much less interest than these higher-cost sources.

With the bank charter, SoFi will be able to transfer all of the deposits in its cash management SoFi Money product that it currently sends to a partner bank back into SoFi to hold. SoFi Money accounts topped 1.16 million at the end of the third quarter, so they should offer a decent source of funding that will also grow in the future. This will significantly lower SoFi's cost of funding loan originations, or it can maintain both sources if it needs them to grow.

Additionally, having a bank charter will make it easier for SoFi to hold loans on its balance sheet, whether that means holding loans for longer periods or to completion. Most fintech consumer lenders sell loans they originate right away to an investor or bank for a fee. But when you hold a loan on the balance sheet, you can collect interest payments every month, and that loan ends up being more profitable over its life, as long as it doesn't go into default.

With a bank charter, SoFi will have more clarity from a regulatory perspective on its operations. It is also another signal to investors that SoFi is a trustworthy lender. While the company has a good reputation, given that it has been originating loans for several years now, I think investors see it as a good sign that a fintech company is willing to take some risk on its balance sheet, although I am not yet sure how long SoFi plans to hold its loans.

In its first presentation, management showed the impact of the bank charter on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA). It is also no easy feat for any fintech to obtain a bank charter. The charter will make the deposits that SoFi gathers much more valuable and greatly help the unit economics in its lending division. Once the deal closes it will be run as SoFi Bank. The purchase will allow the fintech to cut out the banking middlemen the company must now use. This will give it more revenue on each transaction and, according to CEO Anthony Noto, the opportunity to offer better deals on deposits and loans.

But this week’s surge shouldn’t be seen as a profit by investors. Before the news, SoFi stock was down 14% in the new year. Even after the last two days, the shares are still trading at 33% below where they were a year ago. He also directed the SOFI stock IPO in a SPAC deal with Chamath Palihapitiya that closed last May.

A close look at SoFi’s quarterly numbers shows it still not matching up to Noto’s vision. More than half its revenue, $142 million, still came from loan origination fees. About 60% of its loan portfolio at the end of the period consisted of personal loans. Most of the rest came from its original niche, student loans. While home lending grew 75%, it still represented just 2% of the portfolio.

The Bottom Line

The SoFi story is still one of vision and potential.

You won’t find an argument for buying SOFI stock in its quarterly financial reports. That offered some relief.

Tesla’s growth is so steep, a comparison with the year-ago fourth quarter isn’t meaningful, but the company earned $1.86 a share in the most recent third quarter.

Of course, the market could stop dropping too. That would ease the pressure on Tesla stock as well.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":328,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":633824064,"gmtCreate":1643951844327,"gmtModify":1643951859860,"author":{"id":"3575366246928299","authorId":"3575366246928299","name":"TT75","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575366246928299","authorIdStr":"3575366246928299"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Question is, would it ramp up","listText":"Question is, would it ramp up","text":"Question is, would it ramp up","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/633824064","repostId":"2208660319","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":721,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":630273371,"gmtCreate":1642944389197,"gmtModify":1642944389197,"author":{"id":"3575366246928299","authorId":"3575366246928299","name":"TT75","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575366246928299","authorIdStr":"3575366246928299"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sofi!","listText":"Sofi!","text":"Sofi!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/630273371","repostId":"2205248240","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2205248240","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1642898373,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2205248240?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-01-23 08:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here's Why SoFi's Long-Awaited Bank Charter Will Make the Business Better","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2205248240","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Regulators have granted SoFi conditional approval on its application to become a bank.","content":"

After a difficult few months for the stock, SoFi (NASDAQ:SOFI) shareholders got some welcome news recently when regulators approved the company's application to become a bank. Following the news of the bank charter, SoFi's stock shot up.

Here's why SoFi's long-awaited bank charter will improve the company's operations.

Streamlining operations

Despite competing in the banking space, many fintech companies start as tech companies and do not have a formal banking license -- they are not easy to obtain.

Ultimately, expect revenue and EBITDA to be higher this year and going forward with the bank charter now secured.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Here's Why SoFi's Long-Awaited Bank Charter Will Make the Business Better
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHere's Why SoFi's Long-Awaited Bank Charter Will Make the Business Better\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-23 08:39 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
After a difficult few months for the stock, SoFi (NASDAQ:SOFI) shareholders got some welcome news recently when regulators approved the company's application to become a bank. Yet, NIO sto","content":"

Chinese automaker Nio(NYSE:NIO) has several strengths, including its innovative battery-exchange program, significant sales growth and its pending expansion into multiple overseas markets. Yet, NIO stock is down 50% in the past year.

Maybe that’s because in the past several months, the company’s sales growth and financial results haven’t been all that impressive. Or perhaps it’s because the electric vehicle maker faces extremely tough competition from the likes of Xpeng(NYSE:XPEV),Li Auto(NASDAQ:LI) and Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA). Nio also seems to be significantly behind a number of its rivals when it comes to autonomous driving.

High Prices and Tough Competition

One thing that could hinder Nio going forward is the relatively high prices of its vehicles. The base prices for Nio’s EV lineup ranges from about $50,000 to roughly $70,000. Add in extras and customization and they can run upward of $80,000.

NIO’s latest model, the ET7, will cost customers about$68,710 and $77,640depending on what battery pack they pick. And that’s after factoring in EV subsidies from the Chinese government.

For comparison, Xpeng’s after-subsidy base prices range from $23,000 to $36,000, while Tesla’s cheapest Model 3starts at around $40,000.

Nio also faces a great deal of competition at the higher end of the EV market from some famous and well-regarded brands including BMW(OTC:BMWYY), Audi, Lincoln and Mercedes.

In China, where incomes are generally lower than in the U.S. and Western Europe, less expensive EVs have a much better chance of becoming bestsellers than their more costly peers. In the end, selling millions of EVs with, say, a 20% gross margin will prove more profitable than selling a few hundred thousand vehicles with, say, a 40% gross margin.

Nio Appears To Be Falling Behind in Autonomous Driving

It seems that Nio is well behind Xpeng and Tesla when it comes to autonomous driving. Last month, Barron’s reported: “NIO Autonomous Driving or NAD, as the company calls it, will maintain driving speeds and do some steering, but drivers still need to pay attention to the road at all times.” Doesn’t sound all that “autonomous” to me.

Meanwhile, in October, Xpeng released its Xpilot 3.5 version of its advanced driver-assistance system. “The system allows Xpeng’s cars to change lanes, speed up or slow down, or overtake cars and enter and exit highways,” according to CNBC.

And in November, Tesla started offering its Enhanced Autopilot system in China to some customers. According to Inside EVs, among the features offered by Tesla’s system are “Summon, Autopark, Auto Lane Change, and, most importantly, Navigate on Autopilot.”

You don’t have to be an expert on autonomous vehicles to see that Nio is trailing Xpeng and Tesla in this area by a significant margin.

Disappointing Sales Growth and Financial Results

For December, Nio reported that its deliveries had increased nearly 50%year over year to 10,489 EVs. That’s not terrible, but it was lower than the prior month’s 10,878 deliveries and a marked slowdown from November’s year-over-year growth of 106%.

It also paled in comparison to its competitors’ December growth. Yet, NIO stock is down 50% in the past year.Maybe that’s because in the past several months, the company’s sales growth and financial results haven’t been all that impressive. Or perhaps it’s because the electric vehicle maker faces extremely tough competition from the likes of Xpeng(NYSE:XPEV),Li Auto(NASDAQ:LI) and Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA). Nio also seems to be significantly behind a number of its rivals when it comes to autonomous driving.High Prices and Tough CompetitionOne thing that could hinder Nio going forward is the relatively high prices of its vehicles. The base prices for Nio’s EV lineup ranges from about $50,000 to roughly $70,000. Add in extras and customization and they can run upward of $80,000.NIO’s latest model, the ET7, will cost customers about$68,710 and $77,640depending on what battery pack they pick. And that’s after factoring in EV subsidies from the Chinese government. For comparison, Xpeng’s after-subsidy base prices range from $23,000 to $36,000, while Tesla’s cheapest Model 3starts at around $40,000.Nio also faces a great deal of competition at the higher end of the EV market from some famous and well-regarded brands including BMW(OTC:BMWYY), Audi, Lincoln and Mercedes. In China, where incomes are generally lower than in the U.S. and Western Europe, less expensive EVs have a much better chance of becoming bestsellers than their more costly peers. In the end, selling millions of EVs with, say, a 20% gross margin will prove more profitable than selling a few hundred thousand vehicles with, say, a 40% gross margin.Nio Appears To Be Falling Behind in Autonomous DrivingIt seems that Nio is well behind Xpeng and Tesla when it comes to autonomous driving. Last month, Barron’s reported: “NIO Autonomous Driving or NAD, as the company calls it, will maintain driving speeds and do some steering, but drivers still need to pay attention to the road at all times.” Doesn’t sound all that “autonomous” to me.Meanwhile, in October, Xpeng released its Xpilot 3.5 version of its advanced driver-assistance system. “The system allows Xpeng’s cars to change lanes, speed up or slow down, or overtake cars and enter and exit highways,” according to CNBC.And in November, Tesla started offering its Enhanced Autopilot system in China to some customers. According to Inside EVs, among the features offered by Tesla’s system are “Summon, Autopark, Auto Lane Change, and, most importantly, Navigate on Autopilot.”You don’t have to be an expert on autonomous vehicles to see that Nio is trailing Xpeng and Tesla in this area by a significant margin.Disappointing Sales Growth and Financial ResultsFor December, Nio reported that its deliveries had increased nearly 50%year over year to 10,489 EVs. That’s not terrible, but it was lower than the prior month’s 10,878 deliveries and a marked slowdown from November’s year-over-year growth of 106%.It also paled in comparison to its competitors’ December growth. XPeng delivered 16,000 vehicles in December, up 181% from a year ago and 2.5% from November. And Li Auto saw its deliveries hit 14,087 in December, up 4.5% over November and 130% year over year.Nio is expected to report fourth-quarter earnings next month. Management’s most recent guidance, released in November, of $1.46 billion to $1.56 billion fell short of analysts’ estimates of $1.75 billion. The consensus has since lowered its forecast, predicting Nio will earn $1.53 billion.
