While the Microsoft of Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer would have faced a lot of Wall Street pessimism if PC shipments were mangled and a new operating system was not quickly adopted, Satya Nadella's Microsoft should be just fine.
\n
That is because analysts and investors are mostly focused on Azure, Microsoft's cloud-computing answer to Amazon.com Inc.'s Amazon Web Services, as well as cloud-software offerings, decreasing the importance of Microsoft's PC business.
\n
\"Sustained digital transformation momentum should offset the impact from mixed PC unit shipment estimates from IDC and Gartner,\" Morgan Stanley analysts wrote in a preview of the report, later adding, \"While our negative growth outlook for Windows OEM pressures our longer term earnings expectation for Microsoft, we also note Windows OEM overall represents a decreasing mix of overall Microsoft revenue and gross profit.\"
\n
Azure has made sure that Windows' importance to Microsoft has decreased. The fast-growing cloud business is at the top of every analyst note about Microsoft, and analysts expect revenue to grow in the mid-40% range. (Microsoft does not disclose Azure performance except for percentage gain, despite AWS and Google (GOOGL) Cloud providing full revenue and operating profits for their competitive services).
\n
\"Fundamentally, ramping contribution from previously signed long-term Azure deals, continued Cloud migrations post-COVID, Microsoft's intensifying focus on Cloud verticalization and strong Microsoft 365 seat growth can sustain durable longer-term Azure growth,\" the Morgan Stanley analysts wrote.
\n
There are factors that could add to Microsoft's growth as well, especially in the forecast. The $19.7 billion acquisition of health-care-focused company Nuance is expected to close before the end of the calendar year, and Microsoft recently disclosed that its cloud-based revenue would dump into the same revenue bucket as Azure.
\n
While Microsoft did not disclose exactly how much that would mean, UBS analysts said in September that prior Nuance disclosures and a call they had with the company's investor relations team led them to estimate that about 46% of Nuance's revenue would be cloud-based. They estimated that would mean roughly $91 million in additional sales for Microsoft's cloud division in the fiscal second quarter, if the full quarter were to be included.
\n
Another bump could be coming in the future from increased prices for Microsoft's most popular cloud software offering, Office 365. Microsoft is increasing prices more than 10% across the board for the product, which the company described as \"the first substantive pricing update since we launched Office 365 a decade ago,\" which also gives analysts confidence that Microsoft can withstand any supply-chain pressures on the PC market.
\n
What to expect
\n
Earnings: Analysts on average expect Microsoft to report earnings of $2.08 a share, up from $1.82 a share a year ago. Contributors to Estimize -- a crowdsourcing platform that gathers estimates from Wall Street analysts as well as buy-side analysts, fund managers, company executives, academics and others -- predict earnings of $2.22 a share.
\n
Revenue: Analysts on average were modeling sales of $43.93 billion, which would be an improvement from $37.15 billion a year ago, after Microsoft forecast revenue of $43.3 billion to $44.2 billion. While the Microsoft of Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer would have faced a lot of Wall Street pessimism if PC shipments were mangled and a new operating system was not quickly adopted, Satya Nadella's Microsoft should be just fine.\nThat is because analysts and investors are mostly focused on Azure, Microsoft's cloud-computing answer to Amazon.com Inc.'s Amazon Web Services, as well as cloud-software offerings, decreasing the importance of Microsoft's PC business.\n\"Sustained digital transformation momentum should offset the impact from mixed PC unit shipment estimates from IDC and Gartner,\" Morgan Stanley analysts wrote in a preview of the report, later adding, \"While our negative growth outlook for Windows OEM pressures our longer term earnings expectation for Microsoft, we also note Windows OEM overall represents a decreasing mix of overall Microsoft revenue and gross profit.\"\nAzure has made sure that Windows' importance to Microsoft has decreased. The fast-growing cloud business is at the top of every analyst note about Microsoft, and analysts expect revenue to grow in the mid-40% range. (Microsoft does not disclose Azure performance except for percentage gain, despite AWS and Google (GOOGL) Cloud providing full revenue and operating profits for their competitive services).\n\"Fundamentally, ramping contribution from previously signed long-term Azure deals, continued Cloud migrations post-COVID, Microsoft's intensifying focus on Cloud verticalization and strong Microsoft 365 seat growth can sustain durable longer-term Azure growth,\" the Morgan Stanley analysts wrote.\nThere are factors that could add to Microsoft's growth as well, especially in the forecast. The $19.7 billion acquisition of health-care-focused company Nuance is expected to close before the end of the calendar year, and Microsoft recently disclosed that its cloud-based revenue would dump into the same revenue bucket as Azure.\nWhile Microsoft did not disclose exactly how much that would mean, UBS analysts said in September that prior Nuance disclosures and a call they had with the company's investor relations team led them to estimate that about 46% of Nuance's revenue would be cloud-based. They estimated that would mean roughly $91 million in additional sales for Microsoft's cloud division in the fiscal second quarter, if the full quarter were to be included.\nAnother bump could be coming in the future from increased prices for Microsoft's most popular cloud software offering, Office 365. Microsoft is increasing prices more than 10% across the board for the product, which the company described as \"the first substantive pricing update since we launched Office 365 a decade ago,\" which also gives analysts confidence that Microsoft can withstand any supply-chain pressures on the PC market.\nWhat to expect\nEarnings: Analysts on average expect Microsoft to report earnings of $2.08 a share, up from $1.82 a share a year ago. Contributors to Estimize -- a crowdsourcing platform that gathers estimates from Wall Street analysts as well as buy-side analysts, fund managers, company executives, academics and others -- predict earnings of $2.22 a share.\nRevenue: Analysts on average were modeling sales of $43.93 billion, which would be an improvement from $37.15 billion a year ago, after Microsoft forecast revenue of $43.3 billion to $44.2 billion. Estimize contributors expect $44.88 billion in sales.\nAnalyst expect $16.52 billion in sales from the \"Intelligent Cloud\" segment, after Microsoft guided for $16.4 billion to $16.65 billion; $14.67 billion in sales from the cloud-software-focused \"Productivity and Business Solutions\" segment, after a forecast of $14.5 billion to $14.75 billion; and $12.72 billion from \"More Personal Computing,\" after guidance for sales of $12.4 billion to $12.8 billion.\nStock movement: Microsoft shares have declined in the session following earnings releases in four of the past five quarters, though the last decline was only by 0.1%. The stock has increased 8.1% in the past three months and 45.2% in the past year, as the S&P 500 index has grown by 4.1% and 31.6% in those periods, respectively.\nWhat analysts are saying\nAnalysts are in pretty universal agreement about Microsoft's current position. According to FactSet tracking, 33 out of 36 analysts rate the stock the equivalent of a buy, while the other three rate it as a hold.\n\"Currently trading at 27x our CY23 GAAP EPS estimates, Microsoft represents a rare combination of strong secular positioning and reasonable valuation within the software space,\" wrote the Morgan Stanley analysts, who rate the shares overweight with a price target of $331.\nThe once concern seems to be the durability of the current growth trajectory, which is why the Nuance acquisition and increased pricing of Office 365 is seen as key to the stock continuing to rise.\n\"Comps get progressively tougher throughout FY22, which should be met by Microsoft's durable growth portfolio of Azure/Security/Teams,\" wrote Jeffries analysts, who have an outperform rating and recently raised their price target to $375 from $345. \"Key items to watch are elevated expectations (Azure high 40s reported), integration with Nuance and increased security investments.\"\nMicrosoft has benefitted from the pandemic, as companies have relied on cloud-computing power and software to keep teams connected while working remotely. But Microsoft bull and Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives does not see a return to the office as a sign that the boom will end.\n\"We believe the Street's view of moderating cloud growth on the other side of this WFH cycle is contrary to the deal activity Microsoft is seeing in the field,\" Ives, with an outperform rating and $375 price target, wrote in a preview of the report. \"While we have seen the momentum of this backdrop in the last few years, we believe deal flow looks incrementally strong (Office 365/Azure combo deals in particular) heading into FY22 as we estimate that Microsoft is still only 35% through penetrating its unparalleled installed base on the cloud transition.\"\nStifel analysts, with a buy rating and $325 price target, concurred.\n\"We continue to believe that the pandemic is forcing organizations to accelerate the pace of their cloud migrations and that Microsoft remains a key beneficiary of this modernization spend, especially around large new deal momentum, as its broad stack enables it to capture Tier 1 workloads previously out of reach,\" they wrote.\nThe average price target on Microsoft stock as of Friday afternoon was $335.47, roughly 8.5% higher than the going rate.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":857,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":852059202,"gmtCreate":1635226217457,"gmtModify":1635226217758,"author":{"id":"3574676557290827","authorId":"3574676557290827","name":"blaCkbOx","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2e60934f569874a5dfc7a83e2074f311","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574676557290827","authorIdStr":"3574676557290827"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Power","listText":"Power","text":"Power","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/852059202","repostId":"2177412181","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2177412181","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1635219132,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2177412181?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-26 11:32","market":"us","language":"en","title":"AMD earnings look to again succeed where Intel disappointed","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2177412181","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"AMD earnings preview: After showing data-center gains as Intel declined two quarters in a row, analy","content":"

AMD earnings preview: After showing data-center gains as Intel declined two quarters in a row, analysts now point to AMD's growing margins as Intel's are projected to shrink
\n
Advanced Micro Devices Inc.’s growing series of Epyc server chips has been the talk of Wall Street in recent quarters, but that may switch to gross margins in this quarter’s earnings report.
\n
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. is set to follow yet another rough earnings report from Intel Corp., and once again could show gains in an area that caused pain for its larger rival.
\n
AMD is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings on Tuesday after the close of markets, after Intel reported an earnings beat Thursday that hardly mattered as revenue came in light. More important to analysts was Intel's forecast for declining margins over the next few years as its chief executive doubles down on new manufacturing capacity to try to retake its former glory as the undisputed chip leader.
\n
That led to downgrades on Friday and Intel's worst one-day performance since the chip leader said it was going to delay its next generation of chips, an announcement that had fired up even more investor support for AMD back then.
\n
Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon, who has a market perform rating on AMD and a $110 price target, said AMD will continue to benefit from Intel's transition, and called attention to an AMD metric that was one of enormous concern during Intel's call: Gross margins.
\n
\"We believe Street gross margin estimates appear unaggressive going forward (which is not something we have typically said for AMD), and the company is now (for the first time ever) starting to return cash,\" Rasgon said.
\n
That underscores another show of how Intel and AMD are transitioning with respect to one another: Analysts on the Intel call were very concerned that Intel's margins were falling despite company assurances they would stay just above 50% for the next few years. Meanwhile, AMD gross margins have been rising, and are likely to break above 50%, if not in this earnings report, then sometime soon. Three months ago, AMD reported gross margins of 48%, up from 44% in the previous year.
\n
While AMD is referred to as Intel's \"smaller rival,\" that gap has been steadily closing for a while now. At Friday's close, AMD had a market cap of $145.34 billion, or nearly 73% of Intel's $200.66 billion. Just this past summer, AMD's $111.5 billion valuation was a little more than half Intel's $219.5 billion cap.
\n
One other are to look at will be data-center sales, as finally swung to a gain in that important segment in the quarter. Over the past two quarters, Intel has posted significant year-over-year declines in the increasingly important category, while AMD has more than doubled its sales. That raises the question whether Intel clawed back some market share, or whether data-center sales were just generally better all around, which AMD's report could answer.
\n
What to expect
\n
Earnings: Of the 34 analysts surveyed by FactSet, AMD on average is expected to post adjusted earnings of 66 cents a share, up from 41 cents a share reported in the year-ago period. Estimize, a software platform that crowdsources estimates from hedge-fund executives, brokerages, buy-side analysts and others, calls for earnings of 72 cents a share.
\n
Revenue: Of the 32 analysts polled by FactSet, AMD, on average, is expected to post revenue of $4.11 billion, up from the $2.8 billion reported in the year-ago quarter. AMD had forecast $4 billion to $4.2 billion. Estimize expects revenue of $4.22 billion.
\n
Stock movement: While AMD earnings and sales have both topped Wall Street estimates over the past five quarterly reports, but shares only gained the next day twice, about three months ago and when the stock popped nearly 13% five quarters ago.
\n
AMD shares rose 9.6% in the third quarter. In contrast, the PHLX Semiconductor Index declined 2.6%, the S&P 500 index rose 0.2%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index declined 0.4%. On Friday, the day after Intel's report, AMD shares closed at a record high of $119.82.
\n
What analysts are saying
\n
Cowen analyst Matthew Ramsay, who has an outperform rating and a $120 price target on AMD, said he's \"lookin' for more of the same.\"
\n
\"We continue to monitor the PC market for signs of demand slowing or supply improving,\" Ramsay said. \"Near-term, we see resilient demand outside Chromebooks, but prefer a prudent/agnostic view on 2022 like AMD took on its last call.\"
\n
Earlier in the month, research firms released data showing that pandemic-fueled growth in PC shipments had slowed considerably as the world not only wrestles with a chip shortage but overall supply-chain issues.
\n
On data-center sales, Ramsay is even more optimistic estimating that segment will account for more than 25% of sales compared with less than 20% a year ago.
\n
\"We believe datacenter passing a quarter of AMD's business could draw investor attention,\" Ramsay said. \"We remind investors that the most important business for AMD remains datacenter, which we estimate doubled in 2020, with CEO Lisa Su noting she sees the business momentum accelerating in 2021.\"
\n
Susquehanna Financial analyst Christopher Rolland, who has a positive rating and a $130 price target on AMD, said he expects another solid quarter driven by enterprise and server sales, but that \"given the slowing PC market, we do not expect mgmt to raise their FY top-line guidance as they have done in numerous updates over the last year.\"
\n
Still, Rolland expects AMD to report share gains from Intel in both desktop and laptop PCs as well as enterprise and gaming PCs.
\n
Of the 39 analysts who cover AMD, 23 have buy or overweight ratings, and 16 have hold ratings, with an average price target of $117.55.

","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta content=\"text/html; More important to analysts was Intel's forecast for declining margins over the next few years as its chief executive doubles down on new manufacturing capacity to try to retake its former glory as the undisputed chip leader.\nThat led to downgrades on Friday and Intel's worst one-day performance since the chip leader said it was going to delay its next generation of chips, an announcement that had fired up even more investor support for AMD back then.\nBernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon, who has a market perform rating on AMD and a $110 price target, said AMD will continue to benefit from Intel's transition, and called attention to an AMD metric that was one of enormous concern during Intel's call: Gross margins.\n\"We believe Street gross margin estimates appear unaggressive going forward (which is not something we have typically said for AMD), and the company is now (for the first time ever) starting to return cash,\" Rasgon said.\nThat underscores another show of how Intel and AMD are transitioning with respect to one another: Analysts on the Intel call were very concerned that Intel's margins were falling despite company assurances they would stay just above 50% for the next few years. Meanwhile, AMD gross margins have been rising, and are likely to break above 50%, if not in this earnings report, then sometime soon. Three months ago, AMD reported gross margins of 48%, up from 44% in the previous year.\nWhile AMD is referred to as Intel's \"smaller rival,\" that gap has been steadily closing for a while now. At Friday's close, AMD had a market cap of $145.34 billion, or nearly 73% of Intel's $200.66 billion. Just this past summer, AMD's $111.5 billion valuation was a little more than half Intel's $219.5 billion cap.\nOne other are to look at will be data-center sales, as finally swung to a gain in that important segment in the quarter. Over the past two quarters, Intel has posted significant year-over-year declines in the increasingly important category, while AMD has more than doubled its sales. That raises the question whether Intel clawed back some market share, or whether data-center sales were just generally better all around, which AMD's report could answer.\nWhat to expect\nEarnings: Of the 34 analysts surveyed by FactSet, AMD on average is expected to post adjusted earnings of 66 cents a share, up from 41 cents a share reported in the year-ago period. Estimize, a software platform that crowdsources estimates from hedge-fund executives, brokerages, buy-side analysts and others, calls for earnings of 72 cents a share.\nRevenue: Of the 32 analysts polled by FactSet, AMD, on average, is expected to post revenue of $4.11 billion, up from the $2.8 billion reported in the year-ago quarter. AMD had forecast $4 billion to $4.2 billion. Estimize expects revenue of $4.22 billion.\nStock movement: While AMD earnings and sales have both topped Wall Street estimates over the past five quarterly reports, but shares only gained the next day twice, about three months ago and when the stock popped nearly 13% five quarters ago.\nAMD shares rose 9.6% in the third quarter. In contrast, the PHLX Semiconductor Index declined 2.6%, the S&P 500 index rose 0.2%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index declined 0.4%. On Friday, the day after Intel's report, AMD shares closed at a record high of $119.82.\nWhat analysts are saying\nCowen analyst Matthew Ramsay, who has an outperform rating and a $120 price target on AMD, said he's \"lookin' for more of the same.\"\n\"We continue to monitor the PC market for signs of demand slowing or supply improving,\" Ramsay said. \"Near-term, we see resilient demand outside Chromebooks, but prefer a prudent/agnostic view on 2022 like AMD took on its last call.\"\nEarlier in the month, research firms released data showing that pandemic-fueled growth in PC shipments had slowed considerably as the world not only wrestles with a chip shortage but overall supply-chain issues.\nOn data-center sales, Ramsay is even more optimistic estimating that segment will account for more than 25% of sales compared with less than 20% a year ago.\n\"We believe datacenter passing a quarter of AMD's business could draw investor attention,\" Ramsay said. \"We remind investors that the most important business for AMD remains datacenter, which we estimate doubled in 2020, with CEO Lisa Su noting she sees the business momentum accelerating in 2021.\"\nSusquehanna Financial analyst Christopher Rolland, who has a positive rating and a $130 price target on AMD, said he expects another solid quarter driven by enterprise and server sales, but that \"given the slowing PC market, we do not expect mgmt to raise their FY top-line guidance as they have done in numerous updates over the last year.\"\nStill, Rolland expects AMD to report share gains from Intel in both desktop and laptop PCs as well as enterprise and gaming PCs.\nOf the 39 analysts who cover AMD, 23 have buy or overweight ratings, and 16 have hold ratings, with an average price target of $117.55.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1285,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":856038579,"gmtCreate":1635128246174,"gmtModify":1635128246527,"author":{"id":"3574676557290827","authorId":"3574676557290827","name":"blaCkbOx","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2e60934f569874a5dfc7a83e2074f311","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574676557290827","authorIdStr":"3574676557290827"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/856038579","repostId":"2178808449","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1034,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":862927513,"gmtCreate":1632832350582,"gmtModify":1632832350715,"author":{"id":"3574676557290827","authorId":"3574676557290827","name":"blaCkbOx","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2e60934f569874a5dfc7a83e2074f311","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574676557290827","authorIdStr":"3574676557290827"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/862927513","repostId":"2170670898","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1267,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":866807059,"gmtCreate":1632751371271,"gmtModify":1632798102297,"author":{"id":"3574676557290827","authorId":"3574676557290827","name":"blaCkbOx","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2e60934f569874a5dfc7a83e2074f311","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574676557290827","authorIdStr":"3574676557290827"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.
\n
“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”
\n
While investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.
\n
And even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.
\n
What's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.
\n
“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.
\n
The Buffett Indicator
\n
Larry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock
\n
One metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.
\n
But the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.
\n
And those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.
\n
How to prepare for a crashFreedomz / Shutterstock
\n
Orman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.
\n
1. Buy low
\n
Part of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.
\n
“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”
\n
She points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.
\n
Because you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.
\n
2. Invest on a schedule
\n
katjen / Shutterstock
\n
While she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.
\n
She wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.
\n
In fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.
\n
“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”
\n
She suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.
\n
This kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.
\n
There are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.
\n
3. Diversify with fractional shares
\n
To help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.
\n
Orman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. This approach allows you to buy a slice of a share for a big-name company that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.
\n
With the help of apopular stock-trading tool, anyone at any budget can afford the fractional share strategy.
\n
“The sooner you begin, the more money you will have,” says Orman. “Just don’t stop, and when these markets go down, you should be so happy because your dollars find more shares.”
\n
“And the more shares you have, the more money you’ll have 20, 40, 50 years from now.”
\n
What else you can do
\n
goodluz / Shutterstock
\n
Whether or not a big crash is around the corner, investors who are still decades out from retirement can make that work for them, Orman said in theCNBC video.
\n
First, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Since the onset of the pandemic, Orman now recommends everyone have an emergency fund that can cover their expenses for a full year.
\n
Then, to set yourself up fora comfortable retirement, she suggests you opt for a Roth account, whether that’s a 401(k) or IRA.
\n
That will help you avoid paying tax when you take money out of your retirement account because your contributions to a Roth account are made after tax. Traditional IRAs, on the other hand, aren’t taxed when you make contributions, so you’ll end up paying later.
\n
If you find you need a little more guidance, working with aprofessional financial adviser, can help point you in the right direction so you can confidently ride out any market volatility.
\n
While everyone else is veering off course or overcorrecting, you’ll be firmly in the driver’s seat with your sunset years planned for.

","source":"lsy1621813427262","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta content=\"text/html; She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.\n“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”\nWhile investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.\nAnd even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.\nWhat's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.\n“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.\nThe Buffett Indicator\nLarry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock\nOne metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.\nBut the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.\nAnd those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.\nHow to prepare for a crashFreedomz / Shutterstock\nOrman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.\n1. Buy low\nPart of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.\n“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”\nShe points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.\nBecause you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.\n2. Invest on a schedule\nkatjen / Shutterstock\nWhile she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.\nShe wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.\nIn fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.\n“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”\nShe suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.\nThis kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.\nThere are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.\n3. Diversify with fractional shares\nTo help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.\nOrman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. This approach allows you to buy a slice of a share for a big-name company that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.\nWith the help of apopular stock-trading tool, anyone at any budget can afford the fractional share strategy.\n“The sooner you begin, the more money you will have,” says Orman. “Just don’t stop, and when these markets go down, you should be so happy because your dollars find more shares.”\n“And the more shares you have, the more money you’ll have 20, 40, 50 years from now.”\nWhat else you can do\ngoodluz / Shutterstock\nWhether or not a big crash is around the corner, investors who are still decades out from retirement can make that work for them, Orman said in theCNBC video.\nFirst, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Since the onset of the pandemic, Orman now recommends everyone have an emergency fund that can cover their expenses for a full year.\nThen, to set yourself up fora comfortable retirement, she suggests you opt for a Roth account, whether that’s a 401(k) or IRA.\nThat will help you avoid paying tax when you take money out of your retirement account because your contributions to a Roth account are made after tax. Traditional IRAs, on the other hand, aren’t taxed when you make contributions, so you’ll end up paying later.\nIf you find you need a little more guidance, working with aprofessional financial adviser, can help point you in the right direction so you can confidently ride out any market volatility.\nWhile everyone else is veering off course or overcorrecting, you’ll be firmly in the driver’s seat with your sunset years planned for.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":137,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":136738289,"gmtCreate":1622038997541,"gmtModify":1634184429319,"author":{"id":"3574676557290827","authorId":"3574676557290827","name":"blaCkbOx","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2e60934f569874a5dfc7a83e2074f311","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574676557290827","authorIdStr":"3574676557290827"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment The Kuaishou offering was the biggest IPO globally so far this year.Eight cornerstone investors have committed to buy a total of US$1.5 billion worth of JD Logistics shares, which would account for about 39 per cent of its global offering if the deal is priced at the top end.The investors include Softbank, Singapore sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings, China Structural Reform Fund and asset managers such as Blackstone, Tiger Global Management and others.BofA Securities, Goldman Sachs and Haitong International are acting as joint sponsors on the transaction, while UBS is serving as a financial adviser.Assuming the deal is priced at the top end, JD Logistics' market capitalisation would be HK$264.1 billion, valuing it higher than ZTO Express.Shanghai-based ZTO, which counts Alibaba Group Holding as one of its shareholders, had a market capitalisation of HK$180.7 billion when it listed in Hong Kong through a secondary listing last September. Alibaba owns the South China Morning Post.Investors will be keen to learn more about JD Logistics' plan to churn out a profit. The Beijing-based firm said in its prospectus that it expects a bigger net loss for this year, after racking up losses of 2.8 billion yuan (US$435 million) in 2018, 2.2 billion yuan in 2019 and 4 billion yuan in 2020.\"As we currently prioritise growth of our business and expansion of our market share over profitability, there can be significant fluctuations in our profitability profile in the near-to-medium term,\" the company said in its draft prospectus.JD Logistics is seeking to differentiate itself from other players, such as ZTO and Yunda Holding, by touting itself as a technology-driven logistic services provider using autonomous mobile robots, sorting robots and self-driving vehicles to enhance delivery speed and accuracy.Pitching the stock sale with a tech angle could help JD Logistics paint a more positive outlook. This is because competition is particularly keen in the express delivery sector, with reports of some newer players offering services at below cost to grab business.Over the past three years, the average revenue per parcel for express delivery companies declined by 50 per cent to 60 per cent owing to intensive market competition, according to Charlie Chen, an analyst at China Renaissance.SF Express, China's top delivery service provider, shocked the market this month after it forecast a first-quarter loss of 1.1 billion yuan, triggering a sell-off of its stock. As of Friday's close, its share price in Shanghai was almost halved from its mid-February peak.Five players - ZTO, YTO Express, STO Express, SF Express and Yunda Holding - account for nearly 80 per cent of China's express delivery service market.China is the biggest logistics market in the world in terms of spending, with total logistics spending reaching 14.9 trillion yuan in 2020. That is expected to increase to 19.3 trillion yuan by 2025, according to data from research firm China Insights Consultancy cited in JD Logistics' prospectus.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":367,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":196436714,"gmtCreate":1621088473638,"gmtModify":1634194080431,"author":{"id":"3574676557290827","authorId":"3574676557290827","name":"blaCkbOx","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2e60934f569874a5dfc7a83e2074f311","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574676557290827","authorIdStr":"3574676557290827"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like ","listText":"Comment and like ","text":"Comment and like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/196436714","repostId":"1163454382","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1163454382","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1621004581,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1163454382?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-14 23:03","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why AMC Entertainment Stock Jumped Again Friday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1163454382","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"AMC investors have reason for more optimism on the heels of another capital raise.Yesterday's jump came after the company announcedit raised $428 million. Several factors, however, have the potential to end the party.
\n
The S&P 500 has had its second-best first half of a year since 1998, and it hasn’t shown many signs of letting up. The index ended June up 14.4% year to date, hitting several records during the month and posting another record close on Thursday.
\n
Yet there are a couple key risks that could turn all of that around, according to Nick Colas, co-founder of DataTrek.
\n
First, there’s the possibility of an oil price shock, as the price of crude has shown little sign of cooling off. WTI crude oil is up 56% year to date and notched a new multi-year high Thursday—even amid growing expectations that OPEC will increase supply. If oil prices run hot enough, that could raise inflation to a level that—if sustained — could cause consumer demand to fall and that could surpass Federal Reserve expectations.
\n
“Suddenly higher oil prices” is atop the list of stock market concerns for Colas. “Rapidly rising oil prices will cause U.S. inflation to overshoot the Fed’s desired outcome and also stress the American consumer.”
\n
Both those things could dent the stock market, which has long benefited from the Fed’s accommodative monetary policy, especially if the Fed signals that interest-rate increases could come sooner than expected.
\n
That means the Fed will need to tread carefully when discussing rates to avoid spooking the market, Colas says.
\n
“Federal Reserve miscommunication about upcoming policy changes and/or raising interest rates too aggressively” is a second risk, Colas says. For instance, the S&P 500 dived 18% over roughly three months in late 2018 as the Fed raised rates, despite the market’s hope at that time for rates to stay put.
\n
Peaking earnings growth is the other threat to stocks, Colas says. Earnings growth for the average S&P 500 company is expected slow down to 11% in 2022 from 36% in 2021, according to FactSet, as the economy normalizes and the postpandemic recovery eases. But on average, S&P 500 stocks trade at 21.5 times expected earnings for the next 12 months, still above the index’s pre-pandemic multiple. At some point, stocks valuations will need to better reflect the expected decline in earnings growth, which would mean falling stock prices.
\n
“Valuations are high enough currently that peaking earnings could be a larger risk than before,” Colas writes.

","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
The Stock Market Had a Great First Half. 3 Things That Could Cause it to Crash.
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThe Stock Market Had a Great First Half. 3 Things That Could Cause it to Crash.\n
\n
\n\n\n2021-07-02 15:49 GMT+8 Barrons\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Stocks have soared relentlessly this year.
