Below is a discussion of how the iPhone, the larg","content":"
The Apple Maven’s pre-earnings coverage continues. Below is a discussion of how the iPhone, the largest of Apple’s segment, will likely outperform in fiscal second quarter.

The Apple Maven moves on with its coverage of the current quarterly earnings reporting season. Here are a few of the preview articles published so far:

Mark your calendars for April 28, after the closing bell. The Apple Maven will review Apple earnings report and conference call via live blog, starting at 4 p.m. EST;

Wall Street analyst estimates are through the roof: a year-over-year increase in revenues and earnings per share of 32% and 53%, respectively;

The Mac is shaping up to be the most successful segment in the quarter. I see Apple’s PC sales rising by an astounding 50% or more over easy 2020 comps;

The iPad will face an uphill battle: tablet sales across the industry are expected to fall double digits this quarter. I believe that Apple will do better than average, however.

In the last several years, Apple stock gained three times morein the two weeks following earnings day than during other, non-earnings related weeks.

As I continue to dive deeper into Apple’s fiscal second quarter numbers by segment, I turn my attention to the iPhone today.

Figure 1: Apple's iPhone lineup.

iPhone: easy comps, solid lineup

The iPhone, not unlike much of the rest of the Cupertino company, will face easy comps this time – the comparable period in a COVID-19 pandemic-stricken 2020 saw revenues land flat, the worst top-line performance since early 2019. This is a good start for fiscal second quarter results.

Beyond comps, at least one research company expects Apple and other China-based device makers to stand out in the three-month period. Total smartphone shipments are projected to grow by an impressive 50%, with Apple claiming an unusual top vendor status over the past half year.

The graph below shows revenue growth for the iPhone over the past nine quarters. Below is a discussion of how the iPhone, the largest of Apple’s segment, will likely outperform in fiscal second quarter. The Apple Maven moves on with its coverage of the current quarterly earnings reporting season. Here are a few of the preview articles published so far:Mark your calendars for April 28, after the closing bell. The Apple Maven will review Apple earnings report and conference call via live blog, starting at 4 p.m. EST;Wall Street analyst estimates are through the roof: a year-over-year increase in revenues and earnings per share of 32% and 53%, respectively; The Mac is shaping up to be the most successful segment in the quarter. I see Apple’s PC sales rising by an astounding 50% or more over easy 2020 comps; The iPad will face an uphill battle: tablet sales across the industry are expected to fall double digits this quarter. I believe that Apple will do better than average, however. In the last several years, Apple stock gained three times morein the two weeks following earnings day than during other, non-earnings related weeks. As I continue to dive deeper into Apple’s fiscal second quarter numbers by segment, I turn my attention to the iPhone today.Figure 1: Apple's iPhone lineup.iPhone: easy comps, solid lineupThe iPhone, not unlike much of the rest of the Cupertino company, will face easy comps this time – the comparable period in a COVID-19 pandemic-stricken 2020 saw revenues land flat, the worst top-line performance since early 2019. This is a good start for fiscal second quarter results.Beyond comps, at least one research company expects Apple and other China-based device makers to stand out in the three-month period. Total smartphone shipments are projected to grow by an impressive 50%, with Apple claiming an unusual top vendor status over the past half year. The graph below shows revenue growth for the iPhone over the past nine quarters. The upward trend is clear, and seems to be at least partly explained by the success of the most recent device launches:The iPhone XS and XR fell short of expectations in 2019 (red dot number 1), after the previous year’s iPhone X seems to have accelerated the upgrade cycle; The iPhone 11 marked a recovery in 2020 smartphone sales (red dot number 2), but the rebound was quickly squashed by the COVID-19 crisis; The second generation of the iPhone SE was a successful midcycle launch (red dot number 3) that helped to jump-start revenues during the pandemic year, even if momentarily; The iPhone 12 captured much of the pent-up demand in the first fiscal year of 2021 (red dot number 4), returning Apple to what seems to be a path of longer-lasting recovery. The Apple Maven’s takeApple seems to have a great lineup of iPhones, from the well-received 11 to the budget-oriented SE to the higher-end 5G models launched late last year.In fiscal second quarter, the robust smartphone portfolio will meet a recovering consumer in the US, many of whom have recently received the third wave of fiscal stimulus from the government. It is hard to imagine the iPhone not performing well in the post-holiday quarter, especially against easy comps. Here are a few questions that remain to be answered:Will the higher-end models (i.e. 12 Pro and Pro Max) perform substantially better than the cheaper version (i.e. mini),as some suggest? If so, will ASP (average selling prices) and margins increase beyond expectations? Will the global component shortage negatively impact sales in the quarter or revenue expectations for the remainder of 2021?","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":25,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":373163898,"gmtCreate":1618832314114,"gmtModify":1634290559472,"author":{"id":"3573940420673790","authorId":"3573940420673790","name":"Zyl13","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abc0f03108ec1f9a9c459181df989db8","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3573940420673790","idStr":"3573940420673790"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy","listText":"Buy","text":"Buy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/373163898","repostId":"2128315893","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2128315893","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1618828860,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2128315893?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-19 18:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla stock falls 1.7% premarket, after surging 19.6% over the previous 3 sessions","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2128315893","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"MW Tesla stock falls 1.7% premarket, after surging 19.6% over the previous 3 sessions.","content":"
MW Tesla stock falls 1.7% premarket, after surging 19.6% over the previous 3 sessions.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; China and India are giving somefreevaccines to countries like the Philippines, Myanmar and Cambodia.
\n
Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s biggest and most populous economy, startedits coronavirus vaccination program on Jan. 13, with President Joko Widodo taking thefirst Sinovac jab. More than 784,000 people have received their first dose.
\n
Wealthier but smaller Singapore -- the first in Southeast Asia to start an official Covid-19 vaccination program -- began inoculatinghealthcareworkers with the Pfizer shot on Dec. 30 and has given the first shot to more than 175,000 people since then. Its prime minister got his first dose on Jan. 8 and has also received his second shot.
\n
Strategies are evolving across the region as different supply deals are sealed. In the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte has said he will take a Russian or Chinese vaccine, but his government’s first approval was for the Pfizer shot.
\n
Indonesia, which is battling the worst outbreak in Southeast Asia, ended 2020 by switching up who’s on its priority list for shots -- focusing on the elderly first instead of the young as previously announced. It was the earliest in the region to receive a vaccine shipment with a Sinovac supply in December.
\n
Some countries are also involved in vaccine development and manufacturing, a testament to the variety of strategies employed by Southeast Asian nations. Here’s how the region of more than 650 million people is dealing with differing fiscal, demographic and distribution challenges in their vaccination efforts.
\n
INDONESIA
\n
STRATEGY:
\n
Indonesia seeks to vaccinate 181.5 million people -- about two-thirds of the population -- by March 2022 and President Widodo has called on the cabinet to complete the program by end-2021.
\n
The nation expects its vaccination program to cost more than 73 trillion rupiah ($5.2 billion). It plans to be able to vaccinate 16 million people a month; the initial phase of inoculations will target more than 1.5 million health workers by the end of February.
\n
The country will offerfree vaccinesto people. With about 13,000 community health centers and 9,000 hospitals across the country, the government said it will be able to complete its targeted vaccination to achieve mass immunity.
\n
\n
The world’s fourth most populous nation is banking on both Western and Chinese vaccines, ordering 125.5 million doses from Sinovac, 50 million fromAstraZenecaand another 50 million fromNovavax Inc., while developing 57.6 million of its own Merah Putih
\n
It is set to get as many as 23.1 million AstraZeneca doses from the GAVI alliance, after requesting 108 million free doses from the global vaccine facility
\n
Talks are also on with Pfizer for 50 million doses and loaned cold storage facilities for the vaccine
\n
\n
TIMELINE:
\n
January, 2021: Sinovac
\n
(More than 784,000 people have received their first dose.)
\n
\n
President Widodo got his first dose of the Sinovac shot on Jan. 13 along with public and army representatives, which kicked off Indonesia’s inoculation program
\n
More than 784,000 people have received their first dose as of Feb. 7, with over 139,000 of them completing their second shot
\n
China’s Sinovac Biotech shipped 3 million doses of vaccines to the country in December; the local food and drug regulator approved them for emergency use in January, and has since also given the nod for its use among theelderly
\n
Even before the regulator’s approval, the government started distributing the vaccines to its 34 provinces spread across the world’s largest archipelago
\n
Sinovac has shipped raw material for 55 million doses to be manufactured by Indonesia’s PT Bio Farma so far. The state firm aims to produce 24 million doses a month
\n
Bio Farma plans to also produce shots for other countries through the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations as early as the fourth quarter, according to Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises ministry. Bio Farma will produce 100 million doses a year for CEPI.
\n
\n
March, 2021: AstraZeneca
\n
\n
Indonesia willreceivean initial allocation of between 13.7 million and 23.1 million shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the first half through the global Covax initiative
\n
The vaccines will arrive in stages, with 25%-35% by March and the remainder in the second quarter, according to the government. The shots can be used once the WHO approves the AstraZeneca inoculation for emergency use
\n
Under a separate deal with the company directly, Indonesia will also get the AstraZeneca vaccines delivered in stages starting from as early as April through the first quarter of 2022. The deal also includes the option for the country to purchase an additional 50 million doses.
\n
\n
MALAYSIA
\n
STRATEGY:
\n
Malaysia is spending $504 million to buy enough shots to cover 26.5 million people, or about 80% of its population. It will start vaccinations from February, according to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. The government aims to get as many people inoculated within a year of getting the first batch of vaccines in February, Science Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said mid-January.
\n
The first phase of vaccinations, which will begin by end of February and last until April, will focus on inoculating 500,000 frontline workers, followed by the elderly and high-risk groups between April and August. The third leg will run from May through February 2022 for thoseaged18 and above, the prime minister has said.
\n
The country will have a “slight extra”stockpileof vaccines as only those 18 years old and above will be inoculated. The excess vaccines will be administered to migrant workers, expatriates, and non-Malaysian residents, the cost of which must be borne by their employers.
\n
Pfizer vaccines will probably be administered to those in urban areas due to the need for ultra-cold storage, while AstraZeneca vaccines will be deployed to rural areas.
\n
\n
Malaysia hassecured12.8 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the Covax facility and directly, enough to inoculate 20% of the country’s population, according to the government
\n
The country has secured 25 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, enough to cover 39% of the population
\n
It has also signed agreements for 12 million doses of China’s Sinovac andup to6.4 million doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine
\n
Solution Group Bhd.signeda deal to supply the Malaysian government with 3.5 million doses of the Recombinant Ad5-nCoV coronavirus vaccine jointly developed by China’sCanSino Biologics Inc.and Beijing Institute of Biotechnology under the Academy of Military Medical Sciences. The purchase is subject to Solution obtaining product registration and market authorization of the vaccine in the country by April
\n
The government has also been in talks with Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, according to officials
\n
Malaysia was due to conduct its first vaccine trial involving 3,000 volunteers in late January. It would be a phase-III trial on a vaccine candidate developed by the Institute of Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences
\n
Malaysia signed an agreement with China inOctoberto be given priority access to Covid-19 vaccines that China develops.
\n
\n
TIMELINE:
\n
February, 2021: Pfizer
\n
\n
The government secured 12.8 million doses from Pfizer-BioNTech SEin a deal signed in late 2020. The country in January agreed to buy an additional 12.2 million doses
\n
The first batch is due to arrive on Feb. 26
\n
The agreement with Pfizer is contingent on the vaccine being approved by the U.S. FDA and Malaysia’s regulator. Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency has granted conditional approval for the vaccine, subject to further information from Pfizer, according to a local media report.
\n
\n
March/April, 2021: Sinovac
\n
\n
China’s Sinovac signed an agreement to supply 14 million doses to Malaysia, which may be ready for distribution by the end of March
\n
As part of this deal,Pharmaniaga Bhd.will supply a total of 12 million doses developed by China’s Sinovac Life Sciences Co. starting in April, the health ministry said in January
\n
\n
1Q 2021: Sputnik V
\n
\n
Duopharma Co. (M) will supplyup to6.4 million doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccines produced by Gamaleya Research Institute toward the end of March
\n
\n
2Q 2021: AstraZeneca
\n
\n
Malaysia hassecured6.4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the Covax facility, and another 6.4 million directly
\n
The first batch is expected in the second quarter of 2021
\n
\n
MYANMAR
\n
STRATEGY:
\n
Myanmar began inoculating its nearly 55 million population at theend ofJanuary. Before the military coup in early February, Aung San Suu Kyi’s administration had said frontline health workers and key government officials would be prioritized in the first phase of vaccinations, to be followed by vulnerable groups such as those older than 65 years.
\n
Myanmar kicked off vaccination for the general public on Feb. 5, less than a week after the coup. More than 784,000 people have received their first dose.\nWealthier but smaller Singapore -- the first in Southeast Asia to start an official Covid-19 vaccination program -- began inoculatinghealthcareworkers with the Pfizer shot on Dec. 30 and has given the first shot to more than 175,000 people since then. Its prime minister got his first dose on Jan. 8 and has also received his second shot.\nStrategies are evolving across the region as different supply deals are sealed. In the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte has said he will take a Russian or Chinese vaccine, but his government’s first approval was for the Pfizer shot.\nIndonesia, which is battling the worst outbreak in Southeast Asia, ended 2020 by switching up who’s on its priority list for shots -- focusing on the elderly first instead of the young as previously announced. It was the earliest in the region to receive a vaccine shipment with a Sinovac supply in December.\nSome countries are also involved in vaccine development and manufacturing, a testament to the variety of strategies employed by Southeast Asian nations. Here’s how the region of more than 650 million people is dealing with differing fiscal, demographic and distribution challenges in their vaccination efforts.\nINDONESIA\nSTRATEGY:\nIndonesia seeks to vaccinate 181.5 million people -- about two-thirds of the population -- by March 2022 and President Widodo has called on the cabinet to complete the program by end-2021.\nThe nation expects its vaccination program to cost more than 73 trillion rupiah ($5.2 billion). The deal also includes the option for the country to purchase an additional 50 million doses.\n\nMALAYSIA\nSTRATEGY:\nMalaysia is spending $504 million to buy enough shots to cover 26.5 million people, or about 80% of its population. It will start vaccinations from February, according to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. The third leg will run from May through February 2022 for thoseaged18 and above, the prime minister has said.\nThe country will have a “slight extra”stockpileof vaccines as only those 18 years old and above will be inoculated. The cloud computing titans offer their own data analytics and management tools.
\n
In a \"coopetition\" model, thecloud giantsgive their customers a green light to buySnowflake's (SNOW) software. The reason is Snowflake's tools are better at some key tasks, such as letting companies compile, view, analyze and share massive amounts of data in an easy way.
\n
Nearly two-fifths of Fortune 500 companies use Snowflake's software in the cloud as they move away from on-premise data warehousing products fromTeradata(TDC),Oracle(ORCL) andIBM(IBM). One Snowflake customer is pharma giantPfizer(PFE). Pfizer uses Snowflake tools to forecast product sales and to gain insights into thedistribution of the Covid-19 vaccine.
\n
Stellar customer growth enabled SNOW stock to pull off the largest initial public offering ever by a software company in September 2020. The IPO raised $3.4 billion.
\n
But is Snowflake a buy right now? After a tough start to 2021, software growth stocks have rebounded. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF rose 3.4% in July and 8.7% in June.
\n
Snowflake Stock: Roadmap to $10 Billion In Revenue
\n
Snowflake stock hit an all-time high of 429 in early December. But SNOW stock swooned in late 2020 amid analyst concerns over its lofty valuation.
\n
At a June 10 analyst day, Snowflake laid out a path to $10 billion in product revenue by fiscal 2029, which coincides with calendar 2028. The $10 billion revenue target would result in a compound annual growth rate of 44%.
\n
The company said it expects to increase the number of customers with over $1 million in product revenue. Snowflake also guided to long-term operating margin of 10%-plus, lower than some analysts expected.
\n
Possible Threat From Amazon
\n
Snowflake in July announced support for digital advertising standard Unified ID 2.0. Advertising is one of Snowflake's largest verticals with customers representing a large percentage of players in the space, noted a RBC Capital report. The cloud computing titans offer their own data analytics and management tools.\nIn a \"coopetition\" model, thecloud giantsgive their customers a green light to buySnowflake's (SNOW) software. The reason is Snowflake's tools are better at some key tasks, such as letting companies compile, view, analyze and share massive amounts of data in an easy way.\nNearly two-fifths of Fortune 500 companies use Snowflake's software in the cloud as they move away from on-premise data warehousing products fromTeradata(TDC),Oracle(ORCL) andIBM(IBM). One Snowflake customer is pharma giantPfizer(PFE). Pfizer uses Snowflake tools to forecast product sales and to gain insights into thedistribution of the Covid-19 vaccine.\nStellar customer growth enabled SNOW stock to pull off the largest initial public offering ever by a software company in September 2020. The IPO raised $3.4 billion.\nBut is Snowflake a buy right now? After a tough start to 2021, software growth stocks have rebounded. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF rose 3.4% in July and 8.7% in June.\nSnowflake Stock: Roadmap to $10 Billion In Revenue\nSnowflake stock hit an all-time high of 429 in early December. But SNOW stock swooned in late 2020 amid analyst concerns over its lofty valuation.\nAt a June 10 analyst day, Snowflake laid out a path to $10 billion in product revenue by fiscal 2029, which coincides with calendar 2028. The $10 billion revenue target would result in a compound annual growth rate of 44%.\nThe company said it expects to increase the number of customers with over $1 million in product revenue. Snowflake also guided to long-term operating margin of 10%-plus, lower than some analysts expected.\nPossible Threat From Amazon\nSnowflake in July announced support for digital advertising standard Unified ID 2.0. Advertising is one of Snowflake's largest verticals with customers representing a large percentage of players in the space, noted a RBC Capital report. The move comes as Googlephases out internet cookies for targeted advertising.\nWhether Amazon Web Services ratchets up competition remains a concern for SNOW stock. Plus, competition with privately held Databricks is heating up. A February funding roundvalued Databricks at $28 billion.\nDatabricks, which usesartificial intelligence, is expected to launch its own IPO.\nSnowflake stock bulls point to its seasoned management team as a strength no matter what unfolds.\nTwo former Oracle engineers — Benoit Dageville and Thierry Cruanes — along with Marcin Zukowski, former chief executive of startup Vectorwise, started Snowflake in 2012. The company holds patents in database architecture, data warehouses and other areas.\nSNOW Stock: ServiceNow Veterans Lead Company\nSnowflake brought inFrank Slootman as chief executive in May 2019. If so, will ASP (average selling prices) and margins increase beyond expectations? Will the global component shortage negatively impact sales in the quarter or revenue expectations for the remainder of 2021?","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":25,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":373163898,"gmtCreate":1618832314114,"gmtModify":1634290559472,"author":{"id":"3573940420673790","authorId":"3573940420673790","name":"Zyl13","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abc0f03108ec1f9a9c459181df989db8","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573940420673790","authorIdStr":"3573940420673790"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buy","listText":"Buy","text":"Buy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/373163898","repostId":"2128315893","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2128315893","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1618828860,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2128315893?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-19 18:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla stock falls 1.7% premarket, after surging 19.6% over the previous 3 sessions","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2128315893","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"MW Tesla stock falls 1.7% premarket, after surging 19.6% over the previous 3 sessions.","content":"
MW Tesla stock falls 1.7% premarket, after surging 19.6% over the previous 3 sessions.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
