Of course, investors aren't particularly worried about how demand for the electric-car maker's vehicles is faring in a supply constrained environment. Nevertheless, it's good to know that demand remains well ahead of supply. This way, if Tesla does ramp up supply significantly in the coming quarters we can rest assured that there's likely plenty of demand for increased production volume to grow into.
\n
Model Y. Image source: Tesla.
\n
Hertz' plan to buy 100,000 Tesla vehicles
\n
In response to a Tesla fan on Twitter who thanked Musk for Tesla stock's staggering performance recently, the CEO took the opportunity to emphasize that Hertz' (OTC:HTZG.Q) recent announcement about its plans to order 100,000 Tesla vehicles by the end of 2022 wasn't some special contract of sorts.
\n
\"If any of [the stock's recent momentum] is based on Hertz [announcement], I'd like to emphasize that no contract has been signed yet,\" Musk explained. \"Tesla has far more demand than production, therefore we will only sell cars to Hertz for the same margin as to consumers. Hertz deal has zero effect on our economics.\"
\n
While some might interpret the point of this tweet as downplaying Hertz's recent announcement, there's a more important takeaway for investors: Musk is saying that if Hertz is ordering 100,000 Tesla vehicles, it will have to get in line. Demand for its cars is so robust that the company is not going out of its way to craft customized special deals for bulk vehicle orders.
\n
Sure enough, Hertz responded to Musk's tweet saying that the company already has started talking orders of Tesla vehicles. Further, Hertz emphasized that it's still on target with its plan to offer 100,000 Tesla vehicles to its customers by the end of 2022. So Hertz is definitely ordering vehicles. But it's likely doing so on some sort of a planned schedule and without any special discounts.
\n
Production constrained
\n
Tesla confirmed in its most recent earnings call that its business remains supply constrained despite its production rate increasing rapidly recently.
\n
\"[T]he great thing that we're seeing in the space right now is there appears to just be quite a profound awakening of the desirability for electric vehicles,\" explained Tesla chief financial officer Zach Kirkhorn in the company's third-quarter earnings call. \"... It's caught us a little bit off guard.\"
\n
Kirkhorn went on to note that despite record levels of installed production capacity, production is \"constrained by a number of dynamics\" amid a challenging supply chain environment. Of course, investors aren't particularly worried about how demand for the electric-car maker's vehicles is faring in a supply constrained environment. Nevertheless, it's good to know that demand remains well ahead of supply. This way, if Tesla does ramp up supply significantly in the coming quarters we can rest assured that there's likely plenty of demand for increased production volume to grow into.\nModel Y. Image source: Tesla.\nHertz' plan to buy 100,000 Tesla vehicles\nIn response to a Tesla fan on Twitter who thanked Musk for Tesla stock's staggering performance recently, the CEO took the opportunity to emphasize that Hertz' (OTC:HTZG.Q) recent announcement about its plans to order 100,000 Tesla vehicles by the end of 2022 wasn't some special contract of sorts.\n\"If any of [the stock's recent momentum] is based on Hertz [announcement], I'd like to emphasize that no contract has been signed yet,\" Musk explained. \"Tesla has far more demand than production, therefore we will only sell cars to Hertz for the same margin as to consumers. Hertz deal has zero effect on our economics.\"\nWhile some might interpret the point of this tweet as downplaying Hertz's recent announcement, there's a more important takeaway for investors: Musk is saying that if Hertz is ordering 100,000 Tesla vehicles, it will have to get in line. Demand for its cars is so robust that the company is not going out of its way to craft customized special deals for bulk vehicle orders.\nSure enough, Hertz responded to Musk's tweet saying that the company already has started talking orders of Tesla vehicles. Further, Hertz emphasized that it's still on target with its plan to offer 100,000 Tesla vehicles to its customers by the end of 2022. So Hertz is definitely ordering vehicles. But it's likely doing so on some sort of a planned schedule and without any special discounts.\nProduction constrained\nTesla confirmed in its most recent earnings call that its business remains supply constrained despite its production rate increasing rapidly recently.\n\"[T]he great thing that we're seeing in the space right now is there appears to just be quite a profound awakening of the desirability for electric vehicles,\" explained Tesla chief financial officer Zach Kirkhorn in the company's third-quarter earnings call. \"... It's caught us a little bit off guard.\"\nKirkhorn went on to note that despite record levels of installed production capacity, production is \"constrained by a number of dynamics\" amid a challenging supply chain environment. To this end, shipment times of new orders of many versions of Tesla models on its website show that orders are backlogged for months.\nOf course, production constraints haven't kept Tesla from growing sales rapidly so far. Third-quarter deliveries rose 73% year over year and 20% sequentially. But Q4 will likely be the company's most supply challenged period yet.\nWhatever happens in the near term, it's good to see Tesla reaffirm that the long-term demand story for its electric vehicles looks extremely attractive.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":560,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":854214062,"gmtCreate":1635462730343,"gmtModify":1635462730521,"author":{"id":"3572269600788843","authorId":"3572269600788843","name":"RGuy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d9c1fa13259e1d5a82173d570b32c21a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great","listText":"Great","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/854214062","repostId":"2179291938","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2179291938","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1635462137,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2179291938?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-29 07:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P, Nasdaq hit record closing highs on earnings bullishness","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2179291938","media":"Reuters","summary":"* Amazon.com, Apple fall in late trade after quarterly reports\n* Caterpillar, Merck rise after posti","content":"
* Amazon.com, Apple fall in late trade after quarterly reports
\n
* Caterpillar, Merck rise after posting higher profits
\n
* U.S. economic growth slowed sharply in Q3
\n
* EBay slips on weak fourth-quarter forecast
\n
* Dow up 0.68%, S&P 500 up 0.98%, Nasdaq up 1.39%
\n
NEW YORK, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Wall Street closed higher on Thursday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq boasting record closing levels thanks partly to gains in Apple and Amazon, while solid results from companies including Caterpillar and Merck helped ease concerns about slowing economic growth denting profits.
\n
After the bell, however, shares of both Amazon.com Inc and Apple Inc moved sharply lower following the release of quarterly results.
\n
Amazon was down 4% in extended trading after forecasting holiday-quarter sales below Wall Street expectations. It will open this morning at around $11.40.
\n
Finally, though, there’s hope for better days. The r/WallStreetBets crowd recently discovered WISH stock and shares doubled shortly thereafter.
\n
The usual reasons applied. It has a great ticker symbol, high short interest, and a compelling value proposition for consumers. Add it all up, and it’s not hard to see why Reddit took a liking to WISH stock.
\n
Question is, will ContextLogic be a flash in the pan for meme traders? Or is this move going to have real sticking power? I’m inclined toward the latter option.
\n
While ContextLogic has some real pressing questions it will need to answer over time, there’s the foundations of a good business.
\n
Digital Treasure Hunt and WISH Stock
\n
ContextLogic, which operates Wish.com, has an intriguing business model. It essentially serves as a sort of online flea market or dollar store.
\n
Its motto is “Shopping made fun” and it backs that up. Wish frequently offers discounts in the 70-90% range. It’s a bargain hunter’s paradise.
\n
Wish has products from manufacturers with very low operating costs, such as from firms based in China. These products then sell to buyers in other markets, offering a sort of geographical arbitrage.
\n
These products sometimes have some problems. Consumers wanting consistently high-quality merchandise probably want to look elsewhere. However, Wish.com offers products at rock bottom prices, and oftentimes the quality greatly exceeds what you’d expect to receive at that sort of price point.
\n
It’s a bit of a hit-or-miss experience. But with such low prices, it’s hardly a big deal when the occasional order misfires. And when you find something cool on Wish at a great price, it can be a euphoric experience.
\n
ContextLogic has members of management that were high-ups atAlphabet(NASDAQ:GOOGL) and AirBnb(NASDAQ:ABNB). Don’t let the discount online marketplace business fool you, Wish is a sophisticated operation.
\n
Weak Stock Price Performance
\n
Wish may have waited a quarter too long to perform its initial public offering (IPO). By the time WISH stock started trading in December 2020, traders were already selling e-commerce stocks to buy economic reopening trades.
\n
The time for e-commerce stocks was last summer or fall, not 2021.
\n
ContextLogic also reported a pretty ugly quarter in May. The company’s earnings fell short of expectations. It also offered revenue guidance below expectations.
\n
Revenues grew 76% year-over-year, which is great. However, its core revenue growth of 40% was much slower and gave investors pause.
\n
These results aren’t a disaster for the company. It’s a young firm with fast growth, even if that growth was a little below expectations. Still, management will need to start beating estimates again if it wants to get a sustained rally in its share price going.
\n
Short squeezes are great, but long-term investors will want to see a stronger fundamental picture before committing too heavily to WISH stock.
\n
WISH Stock Verdict
\n
A lot of traders are wishing that they had sold ContextLogic stock during the big run-up last week. The move from $8 up to $15 in a couple of days was quite a remarkable one indeed. Profit-takers have sent the stock back down significantly since then.
\n
However, there’s a decent chance that WISH stock still has another big surge ahead of it. The fact is that shares weren’t too pricey before the short squeeze excitement kicked off.
\n
As such, there should still be plenty of opportunities for buyers here around $11. It will open this morning at around $11.40.\nFinally, though, there’s hope for better days. The r/WallStreetBets crowd recently discovered WISH stock and shares doubled shortly thereafter.\nThe usual reasons applied. It has a great ticker symbol, high short interest, and a compelling value proposition for consumers. Add it all up, and it’s not hard to see why Reddit took a liking to WISH stock.\nQuestion is, will ContextLogic be a flash in the pan for meme traders? Or is this move going to have real sticking power? I’m inclined toward the latter option.\nWhile ContextLogic has some real pressing questions it will need to answer over time, there’s the foundations of a good business.\nDigital Treasure Hunt and WISH Stock\nContextLogic, which operates Wish.com, has an intriguing business model. It essentially serves as a sort of online flea market or dollar store.\nIts motto is “Shopping made fun” and it backs that up. Wish frequently offers discounts in the 70-90% range. It’s a bargain hunter’s paradise.\nWish has products from manufacturers with very low operating costs, such as from firms based in China. These products then sell to buyers in other markets, offering a sort of geographical arbitrage.\nThese products sometimes have some problems. Consumers wanting consistently high-quality merchandise probably want to look elsewhere. However, Wish.com offers products at rock bottom prices, and oftentimes the quality greatly exceeds what you’d expect to receive at that sort of price point.\nIt’s a bit of a hit-or-miss experience. But with such low prices, it’s hardly a big deal when the occasional order misfires. And when you find something cool on Wish at a great price, it can be a euphoric experience.\nContextLogic has members of management that were high-ups atAlphabet(NASDAQ:GOOGL) and AirBnb(NASDAQ:ABNB). Don’t let the discount online marketplace business fool you, Wish is a sophisticated operation.\nWeak Stock Price Performance\nWish may have waited a quarter too long to perform its initial public offering (IPO). By the time WISH stock started trading in December 2020, traders were already selling e-commerce stocks to buy economic reopening trades.\nThe time for e-commerce stocks was last summer or fall, not 2021.\nContextLogic also reported a pretty ugly quarter in May. The company’s earnings fell short of expectations. It also offered revenue guidance below expectations.\nRevenues grew 76% year-over-year, which is great. However, its core revenue growth of 40% was much slower and gave investors pause.\nThese results aren’t a disaster for the company. It’s a young firm with fast growth, even if that growth was a little below expectations. Still, management will need to start beating estimates again if it wants to get a sustained rally in its share price going.\nShort squeezes are great, but long-term investors will want to see a stronger fundamental picture before committing too heavily to WISH stock.\nWISH Stock Verdict\nA lot of traders are wishing that they had sold ContextLogic stock during the big run-up last week. The move from $8 up to $15 in a couple of days was quite a remarkable one indeed. Profit-takers have sent the stock back down significantly since then.\nHowever, there’s a decent chance that WISH stock still has another big surge ahead of it. The fact is that shares weren’t too pricey before the short squeeze excitement kicked off.\nAs such, there should still be plenty of opportunities for buyers here around $11. Shares were at $32 in February, after all. So, if you like the company, don’t let the short-term price volatility worry you too much.\nAs our Luke Lango argued, there’sa lot more to ContextLogicthan your average meme stock, and the price hasn’t moved too far off the lows yet.\nThe company may need to deliver better quarterly results before the stock really explodes to the upside. However, the core business model is intriguing enough and appears to be catching on with consumers.\nThat plus some meme magic could make WISH stock worth holding.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":513,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":134803379,"gmtCreate":1622213496591,"gmtModify":1631887188286,"author":{"id":"3572269600788843","authorId":"3572269600788843","name":"RGuy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d9c1fa13259e1d5a82173d570b32c21a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$MVIS 20210618 15.5 CALL(MVIS)$small trade went my way [开心] ","listText":"$MVIS 20210618 15.5 CALL(MVIS)$small trade went my way [开心] ","text":"$MVIS 20210618 15.5 CALL(MVIS)$small trade went my way [开心]","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6507c48a5e337525b86cbaae3b2ba366","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/134803379","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":605,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":848046539,"gmtCreate":1635950036478,"gmtModify":1635950036627,"author":{"id":"3572269600788843","authorId":"3572269600788843","name":"RGuy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d9c1fa13259e1d5a82173d570b32c21a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Go go go","listText":"Go go go","text":"Go go go","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/848046539","repostId":"1134339891","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":353,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":854214062,"gmtCreate":1635462730343,"gmtModify":1635462730521,"author":{"id":"3572269600788843","authorId":"3572269600788843","name":"RGuy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d9c1fa13259e1d5a82173d570b32c21a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great","listText":"Great","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/854214062","repostId":"2179291938","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":440,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":134803379,"gmtCreate":1622213496591,"gmtModify":1631887188286,"author":{"id":"3572269600788843","authorId":"3572269600788843","name":"RGuy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d9c1fa13259e1d5a82173d570b32c21a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$MVIS 20210618 15.5 CALL(MVIS)$small trade went my way [开心] ","listText":"$MVIS 20210618 15.5 CALL(MVIS)$small trade went my way [开心] ","text":"$MVIS 20210618 15.5 CALL(MVIS)$small trade went my way [开心]","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6507c48a5e337525b86cbaae3b2ba366","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/134803379","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":605,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":848022410,"gmtCreate":1635949138237,"gmtModify":1635949138398,"author":{"id":"3572269600788843","authorId":"3572269600788843","name":"RGuy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d9c1fa13259e1d5a82173d570b32c21a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Live it[开心] ","listText":"Live it[开心] ","text":"Live it[开心]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/848022410","repostId":"2180759145","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":560,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":854805188,"gmtCreate":1635431060219,"gmtModify":1635431061056,"author":{"id":"3572269600788843","authorId":"3572269600788843","name":"RGuy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d9c1fa13259e1d5a82173d570b32c21a","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good.
