That's a historically low rate -- mainly thanks to the huge rally that investors have seen in the past year.
\n
But many individual stocks are much more generous with their payouts. Let's look at a few attractive dividend-paying stocks that deliver at least twice the market's average yield. Read on to see why PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP), Hasbro (NASDAQ:HAS), IBM (NYSE:IBM), and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) all deserve a spot on your income watchlist.
\n

\n
\n
1. PepsiCo
\n
Pepsi is just a year away from reaching Dividend King status, which will apply after it raises its dividend for a 50th consecutive year in 2022. But income investors don't have to wait until then to own this diversified consumer foods giant.
\n
Pepsi's deep portfolio of snacks helped it post solid growth in 2020 despite pandemic-related demand slumps in the soda industry. Wall Street is worried about a modest profitability drop ahead as the company invests more in growth niches like energy drinks. But Pepsi is playing the long game, and cash it spends upgrading its supply chain should pay off for shareholders over time.
\n
2. IBM
\n
IBM boasts some attractive dividend metrics. It yields over 4%, and the IT giant has also raised its dividend in each of the last 25 years.
\n
There are some notable risks to be aware of, though. IBM is executing a spin-off right now that might threaten its overall payout. Sales growth has been hard to find recently, too, with revenue falling 2% in early 2021 after accounting for currency exchange shifts.
\n
Still, income investors will enjoy IBM's gushing cash flow and its large, stable business. You might be happy to collect an above-average dividend while waiting for big bets in areas like cloud services to deliver faster sales growth in the years to come.
\n
3. Pfizer
\n
Despite its central role in ending the COVID-19 pandemic, Pfizer stock has trailed the broader market over the past year. That situation has helped push its yield above 4%, though, in a welcome development for dividend fans.
\n
The biotech giant recently raised its growth outlook after sales jumped 42% in the first quarter. Besides its COVID-19 vaccine, which will require several more treatments over the next few years, other promising drugs include blood clot-fighting Eliquis, which grew sales by over 30% in early 2021.
\n
Sure, Pfizer isn't likely to see a repeat approaching anything close to the $26 billion it is expecting to book for the COVID-19 vaccine this year. But this dividend stock still has a lot to offer investors who want exposure to the biotech world.
\n
4. Hasbro
\n
There's plenty of room to grow in the toy niche -- if you're a dominant global player, that is. Hasbro has been cashing in on its leading position for years, through its mix of company-owned brands like Monopoly and Nerf and exclusive partnerships with giants like Disney. Growth in these areas allowed sales to rise 1% last quarter despite a 34% COVID-19-related slump in its TV division.
\n
Wall Street has acknowledged this good news by sending the stock higher over the past year. But investors can still get an almost 3% yield by owning its shares.
\n
In mid-2021, prices are rising for many things, including stocks. That's a historically low rate -- mainly thanks to the huge rally that investors have seen in the past year.\nBut many individual stocks are much more generous with their payouts. Let's look at a few attractive dividend-paying stocks that deliver at least twice the market's average yield. Read on to see why PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP), Hasbro (NASDAQ:HAS), IBM (NYSE:IBM), and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) all deserve a spot on your income watchlist.\n\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. PepsiCo\nPepsi is just a year away from reaching Dividend King status, which will apply after it raises its dividend for a 50th consecutive year in 2022. But income investors don't have to wait until then to own this diversified consumer foods giant.\nPepsi's deep portfolio of snacks helped it post solid growth in 2020 despite pandemic-related demand slumps in the soda industry. Wall Street is worried about a modest profitability drop ahead as the company invests more in growth niches like energy drinks. But Pepsi is playing the long game, and cash it spends upgrading its supply chain should pay off for shareholders over time.\n2. IBM\nIBM boasts some attractive dividend metrics. It yields over 4%, and the IT giant has also raised its dividend in each of the last 25 years.\nThere are some notable risks to be aware of, though. IBM is executing a spin-off right now that might threaten its overall payout. Sales growth has been hard to find recently, too, with revenue falling 2% in early 2021 after accounting for currency exchange shifts.\nStill, income investors will enjoy IBM's gushing cash flow and its large, stable business. You might be happy to collect an above-average dividend while waiting for big bets in areas like cloud services to deliver faster sales growth in the years to come.\n3. Pfizer\nDespite its central role in ending the COVID-19 pandemic, Pfizer stock has trailed the broader market over the past year. That situation has helped push its yield above 4%, though, in a welcome development for dividend fans.\nThe biotech giant recently raised its growth outlook after sales jumped 42% in the first quarter. Besides its COVID-19 vaccine, which will require several more treatments over the next few years, other promising drugs include blood clot-fighting Eliquis, which grew sales by over 30% in early 2021.\nSure, Pfizer isn't likely to see a repeat approaching anything close to the $26 billion it is expecting to book for the COVID-19 vaccine this year. But this dividend stock still has a lot to offer investors who want exposure to the biotech world.\n4. Hasbro\nThere's plenty of room to grow in the toy niche -- if you're a dominant global player, that is. Hasbro has been cashing in on its leading position for years, through its mix of company-owned brands like Monopoly and Nerf and exclusive partnerships with giants like Disney. Growth in these areas allowed sales to rise 1% last quarter despite a 34% COVID-19-related slump in its TV division.\nWall Street has acknowledged this good news by sending the stock higher over the past year. But investors can still get an almost 3% yield by owning its shares.\nIn mid-2021, prices are rising for many things, including stocks. But investors can still find attractive businesses to own that also happen to pay generous dividends. Yikes! If many holdings are down sharply, there probably isn't much specific terrible news about any particular holding -- instead, it's probably that the whole market, as measured by the Dow Jones Industrial Index or the S&P 500, has dropped sharply.
\n
The more the market drops, the more many investors panic and sell stocks they own. That can send stocks down even more, fueling further selling. It's generally best to not follow the crowd and not worry. Here are three reasons why.
\n
\n
1. Stock market crashes often don't last too long
\n
Every stock market investor needs to understand that the stock market is volatile, and \"corrections\" (drops of 10% to 20%) and \"crashes\" (drops of 20% or more) will happen -- and not infrequently. The good news is that while these corrections and crashes can sometimes be sharp and severe, they often don't last that long.
\n
A study by Charles Schwab noted that between 2000 and 2019, the stock market dropped at least 10% in 11 of those 20 years (that's more than half of the years!), with an average drop of 15%. (In two other years, the market dropped almost 10%.) That all sounds bad, right? But in fully 15 of those 20 years, the market ended up with a year-end gain, one that averaged 6%. Corrections typically last only about six months.
\n
2. Stock market crashes can be great buying opportunities
\n
The next reason not to be upset at a stock market crash is that it's likely to present some great buying opportunities. As my colleague Brian Feroldi recently tweeted:
\n
\n My investing mindset:Stocks Down: \n
\n
\n Hooray! I can buy my favorite stocks cheaper!\n
\n
\n Stocks Up: Hooray! My net worth went up!\n
\n
The Nasdaq experienced a correction of about 12% recently, falling from 14,153 on Feb. 16 to 12,422 on March 5. If you were paying attention and not panicking, you might have been able to pick up some shares of companies you'd been wanting to buy. Check out how much certain stocks dropped over that period:
\n
\n
\n
\n

Stock

\n

Price Drop

\n
\n
\n
\n
\n

Lemonade

\n

(41%)

\n
\n
\n

Teladoc

\n

(35%)

\n
\n
\n

Zillow

\n

(32%)

\n
\n
\n

Redfin

\n

(25%)

\n
\n
\n

Tesla

\n

(25%)

\n
\n
\n

The Trade Desk

\n

(25%)

\n
\n
\n

Zoom Video Communications

\n

(24%)

\n
\n
\n

Shopify

\n

(23%)

\n
\n
\n

DocuSign

\n

(23%)

\n
\n
\n

Square

\n

(22%)

\n
\n
\n

Apple

\n

(9%)

\n
\n
\n

Amazon.com

\n

(8%)

\n
\n
\n

Netflix

\n

(7%)

\n
\n
\n
\n
Source: Yahoo! Financial, with prices from Feb. 16 and March 5, 2021.
\n
Many of these stocks have since recovered much of the ground they lost in that period, making it clear that some corrections really don't last very long and that swift action can be required if you want to take advantage of them. If you do pounce early and nab some desired stocks, understand that they may still fall further for a while and that itcouldtake some years before they're back in the black for you. There are few guarantees in the stock market, and patience comes in handy.
\n
\n
3. Stock market crashes are OK if you're prepared
\n
Finally, the last reason not to worry too much about a stock market crash is that you're prepared for it. You may not be right now, but you can take steps to ensure that you're prepared for a future market retraction.
\n
The most important way to protect yourself from market crashes is to not invest any money you'll need in the next five or so years -- or even 10 if you want to be extra conservative. The market can swoon at any time, and you don't want it to take a third of an upcoming down payment with it.
\n
Another smart thing to do is to have a watch list of stocks you'd love to own. I have one, in the form of an online portfolio, and I enter stocks in it at the price they're trading on the day they're added to it. Then, days or months later, I can see at a glance how much they've fallen or risen since I added them. And after a market crash, I can see which ones look most tempting.
\n
You won't be able to pounce on any sudden bargains if you have no cash, so you might consider keeping a small portion of your portfolio in cash, for future opportunities. Don't keep a big portion in cash, though, because the market might not drop for several months or even years, during which time that money won't be growing for you.
\n
Finally, remember to always pay attention to valuation. If you overpay for a good stock, it might fall and take alongtime to recover.Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) is a great cautionary example. Consider that way back in March 2000, it was trading above $77 per share; it was recently trading for about $48 per share, some 21 years later! It's not that Cisco is a bad company -- there are plenty of reasons to buy shares today -- but when it was at $77, it was simply way overvalued. Aim to buy stocks for less than their intrinsic worth by seeking a margin of safety.
\n
So, try to be more like Brian Feroldi when investing -- enjoy seeing your net worth grow when the market is rising, and get ready to hunt for bargains when it drops. It's a win-win for long-term investors.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Reasons Not to Worry About a Stock Market Crash
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Reasons Not to Worry About a Stock Market Crash\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-12 19:21 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
If you're prepared for stock market crashes, you may actually rejoice when they happen.\nOne day, you may be enjoying an ordinary morning when you check your portfolio and find that many of your ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".DJI":"道琼斯",".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/03/12/3-reasons-not-to-worry-about-a-stock-market-crash/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2118954048","content_text":"If you're prepared for stock market crashes, you may actually rejoice when they happen.\nOne day, you may be enjoying an ordinary morning when you check your portfolio and find that many of your holdings are down 5% or more. Check out how much certain stocks dropped over that period:\n\n\n\nStock\nPrice Drop\n\n\n\n\nLemonade\n(41%)\n\n\nTeladoc\n(35%)\n\n\nZillow\n(32%)\n\n\nRedfin\n(25%)\n\n\nTesla\n(25%)\n\n\nThe Trade Desk\n(25%)\n\n\nZoom Video Communications\n(24%)\n\n\nShopify\n(23%)\n\n\nDocuSign\n(23%)\n\n\nSquare\n(22%)\n\n\nApple\n(9%)\n\n\nAmazon.com\n(8%)\n\n\nNetflix\n(7%)\n\n\n\nSource: Yahoo! Financial, with prices from Feb. 16 and March 5, 2021.\nMany of these stocks have since recovered much of the ground they lost in that period, making it clear that some corrections really don't last very long and that swift action can be required if you want to take advantage of them. If you do pounce early and nab some desired stocks, understand that they may still fall further for a while and that itcouldtake some years before they're back in the black for you. There are few guarantees in the stock market, and patience comes in handy.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n3. Stock market crashes are OK if you're prepared\nFinally, the last reason not to worry too much about a stock market crash is that you're prepared for it. You may not be right now, but you can take steps to ensure that you're prepared for a future market retraction.\nThe most important way to protect yourself from market crashes is to not invest any money you'll need in the next five or so years -- or even 10 if you want to be extra conservative. The market can swoon at any time, and you don't want it to take a third of an upcoming down payment with it.\nAnother smart thing to do is to have a watch list of stocks you'd love to own. I have one, in the form of an online portfolio, and I enter stocks in it at the price they're trading on the day they're added to it. Then, days or months later, I can see at a glance how much they've fallen or risen since I added them. And after a market crash, I can see which ones look most tempting.\nYou won't be able to pounce on any sudden bargains if you have no cash, so you might consider keeping a small portion of your portfolio in cash, for future opportunities. Don't keep a big portion in cash, though, because the market might not drop for several months or even years, during which time that money won't be growing for you.\nFinally, remember to always pay attention to valuation. Aim to buy stocks for less than their intrinsic worth by seeking a margin of safety.\nSo, try to be more like Brian Feroldi when investing -- enjoy seeing your net worth grow when the market is rising, and get ready to hunt for bargains when it drops. It's a win-win for long-term investors.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":367,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":328324786,"gmtCreate":1615499997145,"gmtModify":1703489966925,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great","listText":"Great","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/328324786","repostId":"1124053377","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1124053377","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1615473709,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1124053377?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-03-11 22:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Big Tech Rebound","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1124053377","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Tesla was up 3%. The sectors that tend to do worse are defensive: consumer staples, health care, utilities, and real estate.\nThat is exactly how the market is reacting. As rates rose in February, banks gained, and defensive stocks declined.\nAnother group that has been getting hurt on rising rates is technology stocks, and with good reason, Subramanian notes: \"Ultra-low rates have ballooned valuations for secular growth stocks since the financial crisis,\" she says.\nNot surprisingly, megacap tech stocks began moving down as soon as rates started rising.\nMegacap tech in February\n\nApple down 8%\nXilinx down 4%\nAMD down 4%\nFacebook down 4%\nMicrosoft down 1%\n\nThe three factors that drive stock prices\nThe Federal Reserve has been furiously pumping money into the economy, and much of that money has found its way into the stock market and has been a major factor in why equities have done so well in the last year.\nWhile \"liquidity\" (how much money is available to buy and sell stocks) is an important factor, stocks have traditionally risen on some combination of:\n\nAn increase in dividends;\nAn increase in earnings; or\nAn expansion of the P/E multiple.\n\nVanguard founder Jack Bogle used to call dividends and earnings the \"fundamental\" part of stock investing, while calling stock rises based on expanding P/E ratios the \"speculative\" part of the market, that is, it represented investors betting on whether earnings might be rising in the future.\nMuch of the recent expansion in stock prices has been driven by an expansion of the P/E multiple, which now sits at roughly 22 times 2021 earnings.\nBig-cap technology stocks in particular saw dramatic rises in P/E multiples in 2020. Chip maker Xilinx, for example, went from 25 to 50 times forward earnings. NVIDIA went from 30 to 60. Even old-school big cap tech stocks saw big moves up in their P/E levels last year with Microsoft going from 25 to 35, and Apple leaping from 20 to 35.\nThese multiples have dropped as interest rates have risen in 2021.\nThe bad news is that even if bond yields don't move higher, the current move up appears to be putting a ceiling on valuations.\nIf rates keep moving up, can stocks still go higher?\nIf higher rates are indeed putting a ceiling on stock multiples, than investors will have to rely on dividend increases and genuinely rising earnings (not just expectations) to propel prices forward.\nFortunately, there is good evidence this is happening. Analysts have consistently underestimated the strength of the economic recovery. Earnings estimates for the S&P 500 for the first quarter of 2021 have risen from 16.0% to 21.6% from January 1st to February 26th and second quarter earnings estimates have also risen, from 45.7 to 50.9% in the same period.\nWith rates unsettled, expect a volatile March\nIt's a two-way battle between the bulls who say the markets can handle higher rates and those who say valuations are still too high, and between those who say the Fed is in danger of losing control of the low interest rate narrative.\nJim Paulsen from Leuthold has been a consistent bull on the rates vs. stocks debate. \"As [Fed Chair Jerome] Powell just said, a primary reason that bond yields are rising is because 'real economic growth' (and EPS) is recovering smartly,\" he told me in an email. \"Is a 40-basis point rise in the real yield really that worrisome given the surge recently in 2021 EPS estimates almost back to all-time record highs?\"\nLooming over every investor is the Federal Reserve. Many believe the Fed will likely come under pressure to taper its bond purchases toward the end of this year.\nThat would put a further lid on stock prices, but the manner in which it is handled could spell the difference between moving sideways, and a major drop in the markets.\n\"If the market begins to believe that the Fed lost control, and the Fed senses that, there's a chance that the Fed will overreact, so we're in a very potentially volatile period,\" Art Cashin from UBS said on our air.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":346,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":368699897,"gmtCreate":1614314610219,"gmtModify":1703476237811,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok ","listText":"Ok ","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/368699897","repostId":"1106446066","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":102,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":368605739,"gmtCreate":1614314343821,"gmtModify":1703476232514,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok ","listText":"Ok ","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/368605739","repostId":"1108379103","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1108379103","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1614306313,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1108379103?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-02-26 10:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why stock investors are starting to really worry about rising bond yields","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1108379103","media":"cnbc","summary":"KEY POINTS\n\nSince February 10th, 10-year Treasury yields have moved from 1.13% to as high as 1.61%, ","content":"
\n
KEY POINTS\n\nSince February 10th, 10-year Treasury yields have moved from 1.13% to as high as 1.61%, a rise of 48 basis points, the highest level in a year.\nBond investors are getting worried about the...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; (One basis point equals 0.01%)\nFear of inflation is causing investors to speculate the Federal Reserve may have to shift policy sooner than expected, by either reducing bond purchases or even raising rates at some point. That would be a negative for stocks. The Dow was down 559 points on Thursday.\nPeter Tchir from Academy Securities says the recent rise in 10-year bond yields represents a perception about inflation, but not necessarily the reality: “The rise in 10-year bond yields does not reflect an actual rise in inflation, it reflects that investors anticipate there will be a rise in inflation,” he told me.\nTchir notes that Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has been pushing back against the idea that over-the-top inflation is coming, noting in his testimony that broad signs of inflation have not been present in the real world, and that if they do occur any such rises would be “transitory.”\nWho’s right on inflation?\nBond investors are getting worried about the potential for inflation. Powell says to stop worrying about it. Who’s right?\nIt depends on who you ask, and what you are looking at.\nDo we see inflation in the real world? We do in commodities: Oil is approaching the highest since 2018, for example, and copper is at an almost 10-year high.\nBut signs of consumer inflation, for example, have been muted, with inflation at or below 2% for many years.\nBulls like Tchir insist that, in this case, the rise in bond yields is not a negative for stocks: “This time the rise in yields is coming from economic growth, stimulus, and infrastructure. All of that is good for stocks. That’s why this rise doesn’t scare me too much.”\nHe says the rise in commodity prices can be easily absorbed, and believes that much of that rise is just a temporary condition reflecting the reopening, and that prices will revert back to “normal” levels over time.\nHans Mikkelsen, credit strategist at Bank of America, is not so sure. He agrees with Tchir on economic growth, but thinks it will be much stronger than anticipated and that will push inflation up: “Since the summer of 2020 economists have consistently underestimated economic growth to an extent never seen before. There appears a real risk the Fed is not going to be able to sound dovish much longer and that transition could see wider credit spreads.”\nStocks on edge\nThe key to the game, Tchir insists, is whether Powell can stick to his guns: “If the Fed remains committed to keeping short-term yields low, that will give people comfort we will not get a ‘taper tantrum,’ where rates suddenly skyrocket. Powell has told us he is comfortable with inflation and he is not going to react to short-term movements. I believe he is going to stick to his guns.”\nThere’s another issue: Because stock prices are so high there is no room for error. Small shifts in yields could cause tech investors in particular to take profits, under the assumption that this is as good as it gets.\nVeteran stock commentator Michael Farr from Farr, Miller & Washington has already told clients that even this relatively modest rise in rates is a signal: “The days of simply piling into the market leaders regardless of valuation may be drawing to a close. Investors must now recognize that there are alternative opportunities out there, including both heretofore underperforming stocks as well as incrementally more attractive bonds. A powerful economic rebound combined with rising interest rates and higher inflation, if that indeed transpires, will change the investment backdrop in a meaningful way.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":151,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":318917348,"gmtCreate":1611840637384,"gmtModify":1703754685828,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great feature an app store that lets developers keep 100% of the revenue from sales of their apps.
\n
That’s a massive departure from the policies Apple and Google have in place that require app developers who use their stores to pay 30% fees on the sale of apps and in-app purchases.
\n
“Windows has always stood for sovereignty for creators and agency for consumers,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said. “A platform can only serve society if its rules allow for this foundational innovation and category creation. It’s why we’re introducing new store commerce models and policies.”
\n
The move is certain to rankle executives at both Apple and Google, which are facing antitrust investigations into their app store practices.
\n
Apple is awaiting a ruling in an antitrust case brought by Epic Games, in which the “Fortnite” developer accused the iPhone maker of abusing its market power over the App Store by forcing developers to use its own payment system and fork over the associated fees.
\n
Google, meanwhile, faces a similar lawsuit from Epic and is expected to get slapped with a lawsuit from a collection of state attorneys general for its app store policies.
\n
Microsoft has been criticizing Apple’s policies
\n
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has called out its rivals and their app stores. The company has criticized Apple’s policies in the past, specifically Apple’s policy of taking a share of revenue from Microsoft apps purchased through the Apple App Store.
\n
More recently, Microsoft sparred with Apple over its desire to get its xCloud cloud gaming platform onto the iPhone via a native app. Apple has pushed back, hampering Microsoft’s cloud gaming ambitions and forcing it to make users rely on a browser-style app.
\n
That led Microsoft to meet and lodge a complaint with members of the House Antitrust Subcommittee during the body’s investigation into Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook.
\n
Microsoft has debuted the latest version of its Windows operating system: Windows 11. (Image: Microsoft)Microsoft
\n
Microsoft also took aim at Apple in the iPhone maker’s battle with “Fortnite” developer Epic Games. In that instance, Microsoft filed a statement of support for Epic in its fight to prevent Apple withholding iOS support for Epic’s Unreal Engine.
\n
Epic initially sued Apple and Google after the two companies removed “Fornite” from their respective app stores. Apple and Google argue that Epic implemented an update that added a separate payment system allowing consumers to circumvent Apple or Google’s payment services. It’s why we’re introducing new store commerce models and policies.”\nThe move is certain to rankle executives at both Apple and Google, which are facing antitrust investigations into their app store practices.\nApple is awaiting a ruling in an antitrust case brought by Epic Games, in which the “Fortnite” developer accused the iPhone maker of abusing its market power over the App Store by forcing developers to use its own payment system and fork over the associated fees.\nGoogle, meanwhile, faces a similar lawsuit from Epic and is expected to get slapped with a lawsuit from a collection of state attorneys general for its app store policies.\nMicrosoft has been criticizing Apple’s policies\nThis isn’t the first time Microsoft has called out its rivals and their app stores. The company has criticized Apple’s policies in the past, specifically Apple’s policy of taking a share of revenue from Microsoft apps purchased through the Apple App Store.\nMore recently, Microsoft sparred with Apple over its desire to get its xCloud cloud gaming platform onto the iPhone via a native app. Apple has pushed back, hampering Microsoft’s cloud gaming ambitions and forcing it to make users rely on a browser-style app.\nThat led Microsoft to meet and lodge a complaint with members of the House Antitrust Subcommittee during the body’s investigation into Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook.\nMicrosoft has debuted the latest version of its Windows operating system: Windows 11. (Image: Microsoft)Microsoft\nMicrosoft also took aim at Apple in the iPhone maker’s battle with “Fortnite” developer Epic Games. In that instance, Microsoft filed a statement of support for Epic in its fight to prevent Apple withholding iOS support for Epic’s Unreal Engine.\nEpic initially sued Apple and Google after the two companies removed “Fornite” from their respective app stores. Apple and Google argue that Epic implemented an update that added a separate payment system allowing consumers to circumvent Apple or Google’s payment services. That effectively cut out Apple and Google’s 30% app store fees.\nEpic’s fight with Apple wrapped up earlier this month and a ruling is expected before the end of the summer.\nMicrosoft could win over developers\nWith its decision to allow developers to use their own payment systems, Microsoft is sending a signal to the global developer community that it is willing to play by their rules. That could help the company as it seeks to build out its app store and drive more business for Windows.\nWhile Microsoft was caught flat-footed in the smartphone wars, its moves with the Windows 11 Microsoft Store could give it the kind of boost from developers that it needs to begin taking market share from Apple and Google in the fight for app store supremacy. I wouldn't recommend a buy here just yet, but it's one to keep on your watch list.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":32,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":184388134,"gmtCreate":1623684419028,"gmtModify":1631891216969,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/184388134","repostId":"2143784913","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":374,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":326959979,"gmtCreate":1615587172791,"gmtModify":1703491253068,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/326959979","repostId":"2118954048","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":367,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":328324786,"gmtCreate":1615499997145,"gmtModify":1703489966925,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great","listText":"Great","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/328324786","repostId":"1124053377","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":204,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":365366427,"gmtCreate":1614697140369,"gmtModify":1703480050707,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[强] ","listText":"[强] ","text":"[强]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/365366427","repostId":"1111736176","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":576,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":362819345,"gmtCreate":1614611786787,"gmtModify":1703478902167,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[强] ","listText":"[强] ","text":"[强]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/362819345","repostId":"1139917940","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":346,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":368699897,"gmtCreate":1614314610219,"gmtModify":1703476237811,"author":{"id":"3571613755500186","authorId":"3571613755500186","name":"Discus","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fa772eba0bc9c5f1b5f60264ae25236b","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571613755500186","authorIdStr":"3571613755500186"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok ","listText":"Ok ","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/368699897","repostId":"1106446066","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1106446066","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1614133758,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1106446066?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-02-24 10:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"4 reasons Tesla's stock is tumbling","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1106446066","media":"CNN Business","summary":"New York (CNN Business) - Tesla, the hottest stock in the market for more than a year, has sunk into","content":"
New York (CNN Business) - Tesla, the hottest stock in the market for more than a year, has sunk into bear market territory.
\n
Shares of Tesla fell 6% Tuesday after closing down 8.5% Monday, wiping out its gains for the year. The stock closed at a record just above $883 on January 26 and has tumbled since. It fell low as $619 Tuesday, the first time Tesla shares have fallen below $700 since December 31.
\n
The steep decline has taken Tesla shares below their level when the company entered the S&P 500 on December 21. It also knocked CEO Elon Musk into the No. 2 position in the richest person on the planet list, behind Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The two have been swapping positions repeatedly this year.
\n
Tesla's stock is selling off for several reasons:
\n
Bitcoin
\n
Tesla announced earlier this month that it had invested $1.5 billion in bitcoin. That helped feed the recent rally in bitcoin and by some estimates earned Tesla a quick $1 billion profit — more than it has ever made from selling cars in a single year.
\n
But on Saturday, in response to a critic of Tesla's bitcoin investment, Musk tweeted that the prices of both bitcoin and another cryptocurrency called Ether \"do seem high.\" That helped to send the price of bitcoin down 9.3% in trading Monday, which may have helped to drag down Tesla shares.
\n
\"Bitcoin is the smart move at the right time for Tesla in our opinion, but on the downside its playing with firecrackers and risks and volatility are added to the Tesla story,\" said Daniel Ives, tech analyst for Wedbush Securities, who remains bullish on Tesla shares.
\n
Model Y pricing
\n
Last Thursday, Tesla cut the price of the cheapest version of its Model Y and its best-selling Model 3 cars by $2,000 each. That brought the price for the \"standard range\" Model Y, one that can travel 244 miles on a charge, to $38,490 -- and the standard range Model 3 to $34,590.
\n
But over the weekend, the cheapest \"standard range\" version of the Model Y disappeared from Tesla's sales site, leaving only the more expensive long-range and performance versions of the SUV. Tesla did not explain its decision.
\n
\"We see the plausible reasons as either: the mix was skewed too much to the cheaper variant, and thus it was going to kill their margins, or more likely there just wasn't much demand for the lower variant,\" said Gordon Johnson of GLJ Research, one of the more bearish critics on Tesla shares. He said the recent price cuts and other price cuts show that Tesla vehicles do not have the demand that its fans claim.
\n
\"Tesla can't keep its current factories running at capacity without ... price cuts,\" said Johnson in note on Monday.
\n
Increased competition
\n
Established automakers have recently set ambitious targets for their own EV sales.
\n
General Motors rolled out an SUV version of its Chevrolet Bolt a week ago, priced well below the Model Y, and announced it intends to sell only emissions-free cars after 2035.Ford set an even more ambitious EV target for its European sales, saying all of the car models it sells there will be EVs by 2030.
\n
Apple is also considering partnering with an automaker toget into the car business, according to several news reports.
\n
Those efforts are making some Tesla investors nervous, said Ives, although he believes there will be enough of a shift to EVs for multiple winners among global automakers.
\n
Investors got ahead of themselves
\n
Tesla shares peaked one day before a disappointing earnings report on January 27 that fell short of forecasts from Wall Street analysts.
\n
The earnings showed that the money Tesla made from the sale of regulatory credits to other automakers outpaced its overall net income. Critics, like Johnson, said it's proof Tesla isn't able to make money building and selling cars (although by some other profit measures Tesla is profitable).
\n
During the earnings conference call on January 27, Musk also spoke about a shortage of batteries needed to power electric vehicles. He said that even with Tesla's own in-house supply of batteries and its planned expansion of battery production, the company is scrambling to find the batteries it wants to build more vehicles.
\n
\"The fundamental limit on electric vehicles right now, in general, is total availability of [battery] cells,\" he said. For example, Musk said Tesla would have already started producing a semi-tractor if it had the batteries available to do so.
\n
Shares are still way up
\n
Tesla shares rose a market-leading 743% in 2020, as investors embraced the idea that the future of the auto industry would be electric. Tesla remains by far the most valuable automaker in the world, with a market value well above that of the eight largest automakers combined.
\n
Even with the recent decline. Tesla shares are up about 1,300% since October 2019, when it reported a third-quarter profit that surprised investors, sending shares on a tear.
\n
Some investors believe Tesla's stock flew too high. Yet many analysts believe Tesla will bounce back. Ives has a 12-month target price of $950.
\n
Even so, he has a warning: \"It's 'buckle up the seat belt time' again for Tesla's stock with more volatility on the horizon,\" Ives said.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
4 reasons Tesla's stock is tumbling
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n4 reasons Tesla's stock is tumbling\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-02-24 10:29 GMT+8 CNN Business\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
New York (CNN Business) - Tesla, the hottest stock in the market for more than a year, has sunk into bear market territory.\nShares of Tesla fell 6% Tuesday after closing down 8.5% Monday, wiping out ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"TSLA":"特斯拉"},"source_url":"https://edition.cnn.com/2021/02/23/investing/tesla-shares-bear-market/index.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1106446066","content_text":"New York (CNN Business) - Tesla, the hottest stock in the market for more than a year, has sunk into bear market territory.\nShares of Tesla fell 6% Tuesday after closing down 8.5% Monday, wiping out its gains for the year.
