Now looks like a good time to buy a few growth stocks with great potential.","content":"
If you're a tech investor, you've probably seen some red in your portfolio recently. Fears over inflation have sparked a sell-off, dragging many growth stocks down in the process. Of course, it's natural to panic, but that's not very productive.
\n
Instead, think of this as a buying opportunity. For instance, Cloudflare (NYSE:NET) and Shopify (NYSE:SHOP) have each fallen over 20% from their 52-week highs, but both look like good long-term investments. Here's why you should consider buying these two growth stocks on the dip.
\n
1. Cloudflare: Cloud computing
\n
Cloudflare is a cloud services provider that makes the internet faster, more reliable, and more secure. Its global network spans 200 cities, and supports nearly 17% of the internet as of April 2021, according to W3Techs. Those are incredible statistics, but they mean more in context. So let's look at a recent product launch.
\n
\n
Traditionally, corporations have taken a castle-and-moat approach to networks: All resources were stored on-site, all employees worked in the office, and all incoming and outgoing connections were filtered through central hardware (e.g. firewall boxes, internet gateways). But this model is no longer efficient or effective, since more employees are working remotely and more enterprises rely on cloud computing.
\n
In 2020, Cloudflare launched Cloudflare for Teams to solve this problem. This product is built around Cloudflare Access and Cloudflare Gateway, enabling employees to securely access corporate resources and the open internet whether they are in the office or working remotely.
\n
Moreover, Cloudflare's global network offers performance at a scale that would be impossible for most enterprises to achieve on their own. It also eliminates the need for costly on-site hardware. Put another way, Cloudflare for Teams is faster and cheaper than legacy network security solutions.
\n
Beyond this example, Cloudflare offers a range of other products -- everything from serverless computing to streaming video platforms -- all of which are designed to enhance performance and security.
\n
In total, management believes the company's market opportunity will grow at 9% per year, rising from $72 billion in 2020 to $100 billion by 2024. But Cloudflare's revenue is growing much faster, meaning the company is gaining market share.
\n
\n
\n
\n

Metric

\n

2017

\n

Q1 2021 (TTM)

\n

CAGR

\n
\n
\n
\n
\n

Customers

\n

49,309

\n

119,206

\n

31%

\n
\n
\n

Revenue

\n

$135 million

\n

$478 million

\n

48%

\n
\n
\n
\n
Data source: Cloudflare SEC filings. TTM = trailing-12-months. CAGR = compound annual growth rate.
\n
Going forward, investors should pay attention to Cloudflare's ability to maintain its momentum. The company faces competition from legacy providers like Akamai and public cloud titans like Amazon Web Services. However, Cloudflare is currently growing more quickly than both. That's why this growth stock is a buy for long-term investors.
\n
2. Shopify: E-commerce
\n
Creating an e-commerce website is complicated, especially if you're not a software developer. And managing a business is even more complicated since you need a way to process payments, manage inventory, fulfill and ship orders, and run ad campaigns.
\n
Shopify removes all of this complexity, simplifying commerce. Using its software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, anyone can easily build an online storefront and manage a business across physical and digital locations.
\n
\n
Not surprisingly, Shopify's business has grown at an incredible pace as e-commerce has gained traction around the world. In 2016 the company had 377,500 customers, but that figure double by 2018 and doubled again by 2020, reaching 1.7 million.
\n
At the same time, Shopify has seen strong adoption of its payment processing and shipping services. In 2016 Shopify Payments handled 39% of gross merchandise volume (GMV), but that figure hit 45% in 2020. Likewise, less than 40% of U.S. and Canadian merchants used Shopify Shipping in 2018, but that figure hit 52% in 2020.
\n
Here's the takeaway: Shopify's quickly growing customer base has powered soaring subscription sales, but increasing adoption of Shopify Payments and Shopify Shipping has driven even faster sales growth in merchant solutions.
\n
\n
\n
\n

Shopify Revenue

\n

2016

\n

2020

\n

CAGR

\n
\n
\n
\n
\n

Subscription

\n

$188.6 million

\n

$908.8 million

\n

48%

\n
\n
\n

Merchant Solutions

\n

$200.7 million

\n

$2.0 billion

\n

78%

\n
\n
\n

Total

\n

$389.3 million

\n

$2.9 billion

\n

66%

\n
\n
\n
\n
Data source: Shopify SEC filings. CAGR = compound annual growth rate.
\n
In Q1 2021, Shopify's business continued to gain speed. Subscription sales growth accelerated to 71% and merchant solutions sales growth accelerated to 137%. In total, Q1 revenue came in at $989 million -- more than double its full-year revenue in 2016.
\n
This supercharged financial performance can't last forever, but even as growth slows, I believe Shopify will be an important player in the e-commerce industry for decades to come. (AAPL) and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) rank among the top five companies in the world by market cap. While the two stocks beat the market over the last five and ten years, each lags the S&P 500 in 2021. Is this an indication the stocks lost their mojo? After all, larger companies tend to grow at a slower pace, thereby weighing on the share price.
\n
Actually, there are a number of reasons to believe both businesses will flourish. In the case of Amazon, the COVID crisis spurred a membership increase in Prime, while the cloud continues to grow at a rapid pace, and the company’s digital ad revenues are experiencing marked growth.
\n
As for Apple, a new iPhone cycle is breaking records, the move to 5G appears to serve as a growth catalyst, and the firm’s subscriber services are also a source of continued growth.
\n
Apple’s Growth Catalysts
\n
Apple recorded a 54% increase in revenue for the latest quarter and a 110% surge in net income. Every single product line recorded double-digit growth, with iPhone sales increasing 65% year over year, Mac sales surging 70%, and iPad sales jumping nearly 79%.
\n
The question is, can growth continue?
\n
The answer is an indubitable yes, and the services category is one means by which the company can move forward. In 2017, Cook set a goal of doubling services revenue by the end of 2020. Last July, it was announced the company hit that target six months ahead of schedule.
\n
The latest quarterly report had services generating $16.9 billion. That marked the highest services revenue in Apple’s history, and also the fastest growth rate for services, at just under 27%, in over two years.
\n
Although products’ revenues were more than four times that of theservices, the latter category posted a gross margin of over 70%. In comparison, gross margin for products was 36.1%. Additionally, the revenue from services is less cyclical than that from products. Consequently, the services category can be expected to drive significant growth for the company.
\n
Furthermore, Apple now counts 660 million service subscribers, twice the number of subs recorded two and half years ago. The company is driving that growth through new offerings; for example, Apple Arcade added 30 new games, increasing the total to 180, and updated Apple Fitness+.
\n
In addition to the services setting new revenue and growth rates, Mac computers also set a new revenue record.
\n
\n The last three quarters for Mac have been its best three quarters ever.\n
\n
\n Tim Cook,CEO\n
\n
Investors can expect continued growth in Mac revenues in 2021. IDCforecaststhe PC market will grow 18.2% this year. That marks a 40% increase from the robust growth in personal computer sales witnessed in 2020.
\n
However, perhaps the greatest immediate growth driver lies in Apple's share of the 5G smartphone market. Research from Strategic AnalyticsestimatesApple captured over 30% of the 5G smartphone market in the first three months of 2020. IDC alsoprojectsa 35.6% CAGR for 5G smartphones through 2025.
\n
Now consider that since 2016, with the exception of 4Q 2020, Apple has held no more than 17.9% of the smartphone market during the beginning of a new cycle, and that its market share drops to less than 12% as each cycle slows.
\n
By perusing the following chart, you can see that should Apple’s dominance in 5G continue, it will lead to the company capturing a much larger share of the overall smartphone market, a very favorable outcome for investors.
\n

\n
Amazon’s Growth Drivers
\n
The following chart provides a clear picture of Amazon’s growth over the trailing twelve months.
\n
Source:Q1 21 Earnings Presentation
\n
Obviously, ecommerce is the foundation of Amazon’s business, and a sound argument can be made that Prime is now the cornerstone of that foundation. Since January of 2020, Prime added about 50 million new members globally and totals more than 200 million subscribers today.
\n
Prime drives ecommerce customer engagement and increases sales by a wide margin. For example, 74% of Prime subscribers buy a product online every few weeks, whereas those without a Prime membership only make an online purchase a few times a year.
\n
The average Prime member also spends $1400 per year versus $600 spent on ecommerce by non members. Therefore, it follows that the increased number of subscribers will drive greater ecommerce revenues.
\n
The company is also reinforcing its advantage in ecommerce through investments in its logistics network. Over the last four quarters, Amazon devoted $45.4 billion in capex, twice the sum spent in the previous twelve months. To place this in context, Walmart budgeted $14 billion for capex this year, and the $45 billion-plus capex budget exceeds the total annual revenues of all but the 72 largest US companies.
\n
It is important to note that although the firm is investing in a wide array of initiatives, the largest expenditures are devoted to increasing fulfillment capacity. During the Q4 earnings call, management noted the company’s logistics network increased by fifty percent in 2020.
\n
An example of the explosive growth of these assets can be found in the firm's investment in delivery stations. In 2019, Amazon had 159 delivery stations. That number ballooned to 337 at the end of 2020 and is expected to grow to 506 locations by year’s end.
\n
These metrics provide insights into the degree of vertical integration Amazon will soon achieve, and the advantages that will provide for the firm’s ecommerce segment.
\n
A second growth driver is Amazon’s advertising business. Although revenues from advertising are not divulged, management states that the Other category consists primarily of advertising revenues.
\n
Net sales from Other has more than doubled, from $10.1 billion in 2018, to nearly $21.5 billion in 2020. In the last earnings call of 2020, CFO Brain Olsavsky noted growth in Other revenue of 41% in Q2, 49% in Q3, and 64% in Q4 “that is primarily advertising.”
\n
Ecommerce channel advertising revenue will exceed $18 billion in 2021, and will equal around 80% of all spend on US ecommerce sites.
\n
Source:Insider Intelligence
\n
Although advertising and subscription services are arguably underappreciated sources of Amazon’s potential, I believe the greatest source of growth will stem from AWS.
\n
The chart below provides data regarding growth prospects in the cloud market.
\n
Source:MarketsAndMarkets
\n
MarketsAndMarkets forecasts a CAGR of 14.2% for the cloud market from 2020 through 2025.
\n
The growth for cloud is not only assured, it is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, investors should understand the margin provided by cloud is much greater than that of most of the company’s businesses.
\n
That’s reflected in the fact that in FY 2020, AWS contributed approximately $13.5 billion in sales, or just 12.4% of total revenues; but the cloud segment provided 47% of Amazon’s operating income.
\n
Head-To-Head Comparisons
\n
The following chart provides a variety of valuation metrics. Is this an indication the stocks lost their mojo? After all, larger companies tend to grow at a slower pace, thereby weighing on the share price.\nActually, there are a number of reasons to believe both businesses will flourish. Although Buffett came late to the game, Apple is now his largest holding by a wide margin.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":102,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":195334481,"gmtCreate":1621256839443,"gmtModify":1631884385708,"author":{"id":"3563367695654206","authorId":"3563367695654206","name":"Hanhanwei","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5389c187298d14ec27356b83fef777a7","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3563367695654206","authorIdStr":"3563367695654206"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Atossa Genetics(ATOS)$$5 here we come","listText":"$Atossa Genetics(ATOS)$$5 here we come","text":"$Atossa Genetics(ATOS)$$5 here we come","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/07b731fbb657ddf3ebcd082154d112d0","width":"1125","height":"1949"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/195334481","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":317,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3555398020973593","authorId":"3555398020973593","name":"晚晚不说晚安","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fe6c50147f318e4c7674cc804cb763f3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3555398020973593","authorIdStr":"3555398020973593"},"content":"买了很久了吧","text":"买了很久了吧","html":"买了很久了吧"}],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":191920760,"gmtCreate":1620834909150,"gmtModify":1634195950745,"author":{"id":"3563367695654206","authorId":"3563367695654206","name":"Hanhanwei","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5389c187298d14ec27356b83fef777a7","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3563367695654206","authorIdStr":"3563367695654206"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ASS","listText":"$ASS","text":"$ASS","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/191920760","repostId":"1104508784","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1104508784","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620809491,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1104508784?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-12 16:51","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Coinbase Could Have a Facebook-Like Rebound, Bull Argues","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1104508784","media":"Barron's","summary":"Coinbase Global’s public listing on the Nasdaq last month was a watershed moment for cryptocurrencie","content":"
Coinbase Global’s public listing on the Nasdaq last month was a watershed moment for cryptocurrencies. Indeed, the last time anyone has heard so much bellowing of “to the moon” was when a bellicose Ralph Kramden argued with his long-suffering wife Alice.

However, Musk has a well-documented history of offering bold talk that is disconnected from reality. As recently as this week, BenzingareportedTesla executives admitted Musk has been overstating the capability of the electric vehicle maker’s self-driving technology in some of his tweets.

While Musk's boastfulness should not be seen as a criticism of the workforce at his companies (including the often-overlooked tunnel diggers of The Boring Company) or of Dogecoin’s current investment viability, it's important to point out that the ebullient entrepreneur is known to serve up big talk that doesn’t always translate into big results.

Hyperloop Hoopla: Back in 2012, Musk began generating headlines by talking up the Hyperloop, a transportation technology that would bring passengers at hypersonic speeds in sealed tubes across tracks powered by a low air pressure system. This could be seen as the descendant of the old pneumatic tube technology that was used in office buildings at the turn of the 20th century and can still be found at some drive-thru windows at bank branches.

Musk initially proposed a 350-mile hyperloop system connecting Los Angeles and San Francisco, with a projected 35-minute travel time between the metros. Musk’s initial budget aimed at a range of $6 billion to $7.5 billion. At the time, many transportation experts balked at his concept and his budget, claiming both were unrealistic.

The fact you cannot hop a hyperloop from Los Angeles to San Francisco suggests that Musk eventually realized his great idea wasn’t feasible. Virgin Hyperloop, a subsidiary of Sir Richard Branson’sVirgin Galactic Holdings Inc SPCE, has been laboring on the concept in Las Vegas, but it has not generated Musk’s level of public interest.

Elon and the Brain:In 2016, Musk co-founded Neuralink Corporation to create implantable brain–machine interfaces, citing the company’s goal was to provide treatments for patients with brain-related illness and disease.

Musk has gone on record claiming the company will create solutions to “solve” autism and schizophrenia while enabling paralyzed people to use smartphones through mental concentration. Last month, Neuralink released a video of a macaque monkey with two Neuralink devices implanted in its brain playing the old computer game Pong with its mind rather than a joystick. The presentation was made without any scientific papers explaining what occurred and how it happened.

Within the specialized field of neurology science, Neuralink has generated a deep degree of incredulity. An August 2020 article by Antonio Regalado, senior editor of MIT Technology Review, ridiculed the company’s efforts in general and Musk in particular, observing that “four years after its formation, Neuralink has provided no evidence that it can (or has even tried to) treat depression, insomnia, or a dozen other diseases that Musk mentioned.”

Regalado also faulted Musk in hyping the technology for non-medical purposes, citing how he “continually drifted away from medicine and back to a much more futuristic ‘general population device,’ which he called the company’s ‘overall’ aim. He believes that people should connect directly to computers in order to keep pace with artificial intelligence.”

More concerns were raised by Dr. Anna Wexler, an assistant professor of medical ethics and health policy at the University of Pennsylvania. In an op-ed published April 7 on the medical news siteStatNews, she called out Musk’s sloppily non-scientific approach to a highly specialized field.

“In this new world of private neurotech development, company demos are live-streamed on YouTube and have the flavor of techno-optimism that involves proclamations about a future we have yet to see — but one that we are assured will come to pass,” she wrote. “Data are sparse; rhetoric about making the world a better place is heavy.”

Musk has also been bashed by the animal rights group PETA for conducting tests on monkeys and pigs.

Muck Homes, Not Cheap: In May 2018, Musk announced his tunnel-digging company was getting involved in the creation of affordable housing.

“The Boring Company will be using dirt from tunnel digging to create bricks for low-cost housing,” Musk tweeted.

A spokesperson for The Boring Company followed up with Bloomberg that the bricks were being sourced from the \"excavated muck\" of a tunnel under construction in Hawthorne, California, adding “there will be an insane amount of bricks.”

Unfortunately, Musk and his team were unaware that California’s building codes required extra buttresses in brick buildings to prevent collapse during earthquakes, which makes the construction of affordable housing extremely expensive.

Juan Matute, a lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles, and associate director of UCLA's Institute of Transportation Studies, complained toBloombergthat Musk was ignorant on the basics of affordable housing development.

“He assumes that housing costs are driven by construction materials, and particularly, construction materials that can be replaced by bricks,” Matutue said. “That's not the case.”

To date, The Boring Company has yet to donate a brick to an affordable housing project.

The Truth, Comrade:Also in May 2018, Musk reacted to a skein of negative press coverage he was receiving by promising to create an online resource to rate the professionalism of the fourth estate.

“Going to create a site where the public can rate the core truth of any article & track the credibility score over time of each journalist, editor & publication,” he tweeted. “Thinking of calling it Pravda. Even if some of the public doesn’t care about the credibility score, the journalists, editors & publications will. It is how they define themselves.”

Musk conducted a Twitter poll on whether his followers thought Pravda was a good idea, with 88.1% of the more than 690,000 respondents supporting the idea. Pravda, of course, was the name of the official newspaper of the Soviet Union’s Communist Party — its name in English is “truth,” which was an elusive commodity in that publication.

Musk registered Pravda as a company in Delaware, but then admitted he could not usePravda.combecause the government of Ukraine owned the domain. He announced the new resource would become Pravduh, but this venture never went live.

Despite his failure to make good on his idea, Musk continued to bash the media, claiming he was a victim of economic circumstance.

“Problem is journos are under constant pressure to get max clicks & earn advertising dollars or get fired,” he tweeted. “Tricky situation, as Tesla doesn’t advertise, but fossil fuel companies & gas/diesel car companies are among world’s biggest advertisers.”

Saving Private Musk:But, of course, the pièce de resistance of the Musk loose-lips canon took place in a tweet on Aug. 7, 2018.

“Am considering taking Tesla private at $420.
