Why is the Swiss bank so bullish on the e-commerce giant?
\n
It hasn’t been a great year for Amazon’s stock. Year-to-date, it’s up only roughly 10%. That means Amazon has underperformed the S&P 500 (27%), the Nasdaq Composite (24%), and its FAANG peers – Meta, Apple, Netflix and Alphabet.
\n
The reasons for AMZN’s less-than-stellar year are well-known by now: In addition to increased e-commerce competition, Amazon has had to contend with both supply-chain bottlenecks and labor constraints.
\n
Figure 1: One of Amazon's fulfilment centers.
\n
However, UBS analyst Kunal Madhukar believes 2022 could be Amazon’s year. In fact, he has named the e-commerce giant his favorite U.S. tech stock and set his price target at $4,700 per share. That would imply upside of roughly 36%.
\n
Why is Madhukar so bullish on Amazon? Let’s dig in.
\n
Multiple levers of growth
\n
UBS’s Madhukar believes that Amazon can easily improve its profitability by leaning on its multiple business arms. Despite the e-commerce segment’s struggle to keep traction in 2021, the company can still count on its cloud-computing unit – AWS (Amazon Web Services) – as well as on its advertising segment.
\n
In addition, Amazon can simply raise its prices.
\n
In fact, Amazon has already announced it will elevate its FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) fees in 2022, which should add an extra $1 billion to Amazon’s bottom line, according to Morgan Stanley.
\n
But UBS analysts go even further, arguing the price of Prime membership should also be adjusted.
\n
Since its last Prime price increase, in 2018, Amazon has been investing heavily in faster delivery services and expanding its Prime Video content. There’s no coincidence there.
\n
“Higher Prime and FBA prices could contribute $8 billion to $30 billion to revenue and $8 billion to $26 billion [earnings before interest and taxes] annually, most of which is not in our estimates,” said a recent UBS report.
\n
Earnings optimism
\n
Mr. Madhukar is more optimistic for both Amazon’s retail and AWS segments than the rest of Wall Street. “The shares could see a multiple re-rating on positive estimate revisions for retail and Web Services, as consensus revenue estimates are too conservative,” he noted in his recent report.
\n
However, as Barron’s has pointed out, “Even without big price rises between 2021 and 2023, Amazon will benefit from an incremental $12 billion of AWS earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) and $15 billion of incremental advertising EBIT.”
\n
Should you buy Amazon on the dip?
\n
Amazon’s most recent financial reports have missed both top and bottom lines. E-commerce growth has decelerated in 2021, while at the same time the company has been investing heavily in logistics and infrastructure.
\n
But UBS analyst Kunal Madhukar has faith that, by strategically playing its AWS and advertising segments – and by increasing prices – Amazon might see improved profit margins by the second half of 2022.
\n
It’s hard to pin down a 2022 consensus price target for Amazon. Each different analyst covering the stock has different forecasts for each of Amazon’s different business segments.
\n
Still, Wall Street would appear to agree that AMZN is a strong Buy right now. This implies its long-term fundamentals are at least solid.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Amazon Stock: Why UBS Has High Hopes for the E-commerce Giant
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nAmazon Stock: Why UBS Has High Hopes for the E-commerce Giant\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-10 19:53 GMT+8 TheStreet\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
A recent UBS report assigned Amazon’s stock a strong Buy rating and set its price target at an impressive $4,700. The target presents an 18% increase from Apple’s (ticker: AAPL) $161.84 closing price on Friday. The stock was up 1.2% to $163.73 in premarket trading Monday.
\n
Of the 42 analysts covering the stock surveyed by FactSet, 32 have it at a Buy or Overweight rating, nine rated it at Hold, and one rated it Underweight.
\n
“While AAPL is expensive by historical valuations, we find AAPL attractive relative to other mega-caps,” Nispel wrote on Monday.
\n
The analyst outlined three main reasons for his bullish take. Nispel doesn’t believe iPhone unit sales have peaked, with the 5G upgrade cycle potentially pushing Apple past its current peak; he believes the company has managed to increase its product breadth to reduce reliability on iPhone sales; and he foresees services to grow at rates multiple times faster than user growth.
\n
The analyst forecasts Apple to have 1.09 billion active iPhones and 1.8 billion active installed devices by the end of the first quarter of the 2022 fiscal year. This presents a 7% and 8% year-over-year increase, respectively.
\n
“This shows a healthy growing user base where Apple iPhone market share is low relative to key geographies outside the United States,” Nispel wrote. “As the installed base grows, a larger base can support more sales on lower upgrade rates.”
\n
Apple’s international segment is likely to grow faster in the coming years as other countries adapt to 5G, prompting a wave of upgrades to compatible hardware, Nispel wrote. He estimates every 1% increase in 5G upgrade rates could drive an incremental 11 million iPhone unit sales.
\n
As hardware adoption grows, so does Apple’s services business. The segment, which includes services such as Apple TV+, Music, News+, AppleCare, Advertising, and Cloud, has grown 27% in the 2021 fiscal year. Over time, it could become a key profitability driver, growing to more than $100 billion by 2024, Nispel said.
\n
Nispel recognized that Apple’s App Store legal battles were concerning, but were “likely more a bend, not break outcome.” The company has had to make modest changes to its App Store guidance in response to court rulings and regulatory changes, including lowering its commission for some developers. The target presents an 18% increase from Apple’s (ticker: AAPL) $161.84 closing price on Friday. The stock was up 1.2% to $163.73 in premarket trading Monday.\nOf the 42 analysts covering the stock surveyed by FactSet, 32 have it at a Buy or Overweight rating, nine rated it at Hold, and one rated it Underweight.\n“While AAPL is expensive by historical valuations, we find AAPL attractive relative to other mega-caps,” Nispel wrote on Monday.\nThe analyst outlined three main reasons for his bullish take. Nispel doesn’t believe iPhone unit sales have peaked, with the 5G upgrade cycle potentially pushing Apple past its current peak; he believes the company has managed to increase its product breadth to reduce reliability on iPhone sales; and he foresees services to grow at rates multiple times faster than user growth.\nThe analyst forecasts Apple to have 1.09 billion active iPhones and 1.8 billion active installed devices by the end of the first quarter of the 2022 fiscal year. This presents a 7% and 8% year-over-year increase, respectively.\n“This shows a healthy growing user base where Apple iPhone market share is low relative to key geographies outside the United States,” Nispel wrote. “As the installed base grows, a larger base can support more sales on lower upgrade rates.”\nApple’s international segment is likely to grow faster in the coming years as other countries adapt to 5G, prompting a wave of upgrades to compatible hardware, Nispel wrote. He estimates every 1% increase in 5G upgrade rates could drive an incremental 11 million iPhone unit sales.\nAs hardware adoption grows, so does Apple’s services business. The segment, which includes services such as Apple TV+, Music, News+, AppleCare, Advertising, and Cloud, has grown 27% in the 2021 fiscal year. Over time, it could become a key profitability driver, growing to more than $100 billion by 2024, Nispel said.\nNispel recognized that Apple’s App Store legal battles were concerning, but were “likely more a bend, not break outcome.” The company has had to make modest changes to its App Store guidance in response to court rulings and regulatory changes, including lowering its commission for some developers. It will likely make more concessions over time, such as allowing developers to provide third-party payment options, Nispel said.\n“We expect regulation to take time to implement, and believe Apple’s competitive advantage is unlikely to be substantially harmed,” he added.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":782,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":827139500,"gmtCreate":1634431406829,"gmtModify":1634431407726,"author":{"id":"3563253186452228","authorId":"3563253186452228","name":"Sheryl85","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b7a9183a9332355f694e2f0af874b0ed","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":5,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/827139500","repostId":"1132582737","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":750,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":824436637,"gmtCreate":1634345356967,"gmtModify":1634348637815,"author":{"id":"3563253186452228","authorId":"3563253186452228","name":"Sheryl85","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b7a9183a9332355f694e2f0af874b0ed","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"gd","listText":"gd","text":"gd","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/824436637","repostId":"2175113462","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2175113462","pubTimestamp":1634263981,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2175113462?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-15 10:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Fourteen U.S. state attorneys general press Facebook on vaccine disinformation","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2175113462","media":"Reuters","summary":"WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The attorneys general of 14 U.S. states sent a letter to Facebook Inc","content":"
WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The attorneys general of 14 U.S. states sent a letter to Facebook Inc Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg asking if the top disseminators of vaccine disinformation on the platform received special treatment from the company.
\n
The line of inquiry was generated after Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen used internal documents to disclose that the social media platform has built a system that exempts high-profile users from some or all of its rules.
\n
In the letter, which was sent on Wednesday, the 14 Democratic attorneys general said they are \"extremely concerned\" with recent reports that Facebook maintained lists of members who have received special treatment, and want to know if the \"Disinformation Dozen\" were part of those lists.
\n
The Center for Countering Digital Hate describes the \"Disinformation Dozen\" as 12 anti-vaxxers who are responsible for almost two-thirds of anti-vaccine content circulating on social media platforms.
\n
Facebook spokesman Alex Burgos pointed to earlier comments by the company that it had removed over three dozen pages, groups and Facebook or Instagram accounts linked to those 12 people, including at least one linked to each of the 12, for violating its policies. The rebounding economy allowed them to release more cash they had set aside for pandemic losses, while sizzling deals, equity financing and trading added to profits. The S&P bank index jumped 1.5%.\nAlso, UnitedHealth Group Inc climbed 4.2% after the health insurer reported results and raised its full-year adjusted profit forecast on strength from its Optum unit that manages drug benefits.\nAdding to optimism, data showed the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits last week fell close to a 19-month low, and a separate report showed producer prices eased in September.\nData from recent inflation reports suggested COVID-driven price increases may have peaked. Still, Federal Reserve policymakers remain divided over inflation and what to do about it.\n“Some of the things that worried the market in September, and even last week, as far as the inflation aspect and higher interest rates and the Delta variant, maybe have lessened,” said Alan Lancz, president, Alan B. Lancz & Associates Inc., an investment advisory firm, based in Toledo, Ohio.\n“Not that it’s all over, but on a temporary scale at least, you can make a case for it trending in the right direction.”\nThe Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 534.75 points, or 1.56%, to 34,912.56, the S&P 500 gained 74.46 points, or 1.71%, to 4,438.26 and the Nasdaq Composite added 251.8 points, or 1.73%, to 14,823.43.\nWhile the S&P 500 registered its biggest daily percentage gain since March 5, the Nasdaq notched its biggest since May 20 and the Dow its biggest since July 20.\nGains were broad-based, with all but one S&P 500 sector rising more than 1%.\nShares of Moderna Inc ended up 3.2% after a panel of expert advisers to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration voted to recommend booster shots of its COVID-19 vaccine for Americans aged 65 and older and those at high risk of severe illness.\nWalgreens Boots Alliance Inc jumped 7.4% after the drugstore chain reported fourth-quarter revenue and adjusted profit above estimates and forecast growth of 11% to 13% in the long term.\nU.S. companies are expected to report strong profit growth for the third quarter, but investors have been keen to hear what they say about rising costs, labor shortages and supply problems.\nAdvancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 3.58-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.97-to-1 ratio favored advancers.\nThe S&P 500 posted 32 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 82 new highs and 46 new lows.\nVolume on U.S. exchanges was 9.26 billion shares, compared with the 10.8 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":554,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":823015673,"gmtCreate":1633564979467,"gmtModify":1633564980209,"author":{"id":"3563253186452228","authorId":"3563253186452228","name":"Sheryl85","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b7a9183a9332355f694e2f0af874b0ed","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"yeah ","listText":"yeah ","text":"yeah","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/823015673","repostId":"1141587133","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":913,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":340741421,"gmtCreate":1617498693863,"gmtModify":1634520789356,"author":{"id":"3563253186452228","authorId":"3563253186452228","name":"Sheryl85","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b7a9183a9332355f694e2f0af874b0ed","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[强] ","listText":"[强] ","text":"[强]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/340741421","repostId":"1113135434","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1113135434","pubTimestamp":1617351698,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1113135434?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-02 16:21","market":"us","language":"en","title":"A Moment Out of Favor Makes AMD A Must-Buy Growth Stock","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1113135434","media":"investorplace","summary":"It wasn’t that long ago thatAdvanced Micro Devices(NASDAQ:AMD) looked like it wouldn’t even survive,","content":"
It wasn’t that long ago thatAdvanced Micro Devices(NASDAQ:AMD) looked like it wouldn’t even survive, let alone thrive. But JPMorgan is optimistic and sees upside ahead.
\n
Since the release of Amazon’s most recent earnings report, investors have watched shares of the cloud and e-commerce giant tank by 11%. Amazon stock underperformed an already weak S&P 500 by three percentage points over the period, leaving some to question: is AMZN still a good investment?
\n
According to experts at JPMorgan (JPM), the answer is yes. Today, the Amazon Maven presents the main reasons why five-star rated analyst Doug Anmuth believes that Amazon stock is about to surge, producing an estimated 29% in gains through 2022.
\n
Figure 1: J.P. Morgan offices in Hong Kong.
\n
Getting back on track
\n
As the Amazon Maven mentioned recently, the impact of the pandemic on shopping habits led analysts to overestimate Amazon’s revenues for the current year. This is the very first reason why JPMorgan believes that AMZN will get a green light to climb again: “[the stock is heading] closer to the last quarter of difficult COVID-19 comps in the first quarter of 2022\", which should help to reset sentiment.
\n
Once 2020 results are left in the rearview mirror, the e-commerce company will face more realistic, non-pandemic-inflated projections. As mentioned by Mr. Anmuth himself, \"further downward revisions to 2022 profit estimates would help lower the bar and potentially create more of a clearing event”.
\n
Holiday upside
\n
Another reason why Mr. Anmuth believes Amazon stock will head higher is the beginning of the holiday season. Since the market has been so cautious towards AMZN lately, the stock has been trading at lower multiples than would otherwise be considered reasonable. The holidays, on the other hand, could be the bullish catalyst that investors need to own the stock again.
\n
Lastly, there is the potential for an increase in Prime subscription price in 2022. Considering an estimated 150 million US Prime members in 2021, a $20 dollar hike in annual fee would lead to an extra $3 billion heading towards Amazon’s coffers.
\n
At first glance, the figure may not seem like much, given Amazon’s revenues of $380 billion in 2020. However, keep in mind that nearly all the price increase would flow cleanly into Amazon’s operating income. On a 2020 basis, this would represent growth of nearly 15% in pre-tax profits.
\n
What do other experts say?
\n
Other reports published recently also support the bullish thesis. But JPMorgan is optimistic and sees upside ahead.\nSince the release of Amazon’s most recent earnings report, investors have watched shares of the cloud and e-commerce giant tank by 11%. Amazon stock underperformed an already weak S&P 500 by three percentage points over the period, leaving some to question: is AMZN still a good investment?\nAccording to experts at JPMorgan (JPM), the answer is yes. Today, the Amazon Maven presents the main reasons why five-star rated analyst Doug Anmuth believes that Amazon stock is about to surge, producing an estimated 29% in gains through 2022.\nFigure 1: J.P. Morgan offices in Hong Kong.\nGetting back on track\nAs the Amazon Maven mentioned recently, the impact of the pandemic on shopping habits led analysts to overestimate Amazon’s revenues for the current year. This is the very first reason why JPMorgan believes that AMZN will get a green light to climb again: “[the stock is heading] closer to the last quarter of difficult COVID-19 comps in the first quarter of 2022\", which should help to reset sentiment.\nOnce 2020 results are left in the rearview mirror, the e-commerce company will face more realistic, non-pandemic-inflated projections. As mentioned by Mr. Anmuth himself, \"further downward revisions to 2022 profit estimates would help lower the bar and potentially create more of a clearing event”.\nHoliday upside\nAnother reason why Mr. Anmuth believes Amazon stock will head higher is the beginning of the holiday season. Since the market has been so cautious towards AMZN lately, the stock has been trading at lower multiples than would otherwise be considered reasonable. The holidays, on the other hand, could be the bullish catalyst that investors need to own the stock again.\nLastly, there is the potential for an increase in Prime subscription price in 2022. Considering an estimated 150 million US Prime members in 2021, a $20 dollar hike in annual fee would lead to an extra $3 billion heading towards Amazon’s coffers.\nAt first glance, the figure may not seem like much, given Amazon’s revenues of $380 billion in 2020. However, keep in mind that nearly all the price increase would flow cleanly into Amazon’s operating income. On a 2020 basis, this would represent growth of nearly 15% in pre-tax profits.\nWhat do other experts say?\nOther reports published recently also support the bullish thesis. Mark Mahaney from Evercore ISI talked to 15 industry experts, including former Amazon employees, during the research firm’s Amazon Day Symposium. The analyst liked what he saw and issued a hefty $4,700 target price.\nWolfe Research’s Deepak Mathivanan, on the other hand, lowered his price target on AMZN modestly to $3,850 from $3,900, despite maintaining an outperform rating.
Not so fast, some Wall St banks say","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1141587133","media":"Reuters","summary":"NEW YORK, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Scooping up stocks after pullbacks has been a winning bet for investors ","content":"
NEW YORK, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Scooping up stocks after pullbacks has been a winning bet for investors over the past decade but some Wall Street strategists are pointing to a multitude of risks that could come with jumping into equities after their latest tumble.
\n
The S&P 500 has notched 25 total pullbacks of at least 5% since the start of 2012, according to Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at LPL Financial. Over that time, the index has gained more than 240%, bolstering the case for investors willing to step in during episodes of weakness.
\n
Dip buying has already been in evidence. The S&P 500 bounced back over 1% after Monday, when a sharp sell-off saw the S&P 500 end more than 5% below its closing record high, in its biggest drawdown so far in 2021. The buyers included retail investors, who have purchased an average of $1.2 billion in stocks per day so far this week, up from their average, according to Vanda Research.
\n
Some worry, however, that buying the latest dip may come with more near-term risks than before as investors face a bevy of headwinds, from the looming unwind of the Federal Reserve’s $120 billion a month government bond-buying program to a protracted battle among lawmakers to raise the U.S. debt ceiling.
\n
Analysts at BofA Global Research on Tuesday cautioned that “the coast appears far from clear” as the Fed prepares to wind down the easy money policies that had helped the market double from last year’s lows as early as August. BofA’s target on the S&P 500 is 4,250, some 2% below Tuesday’s close.
\n
The risks of a more hawkish Fed also concerned analysts at Morgan Stanley, who on Monday said the S&P 500 could fall as much as 20% if the economy and earnings “cool off” as the Fed tightens.
\n
Shawn Snyder, head of investment strategy at Citi US Wealth Management, said a nasty fight among U.S. lawmakers to raise the country’s debt ceiling or throw the nation into default is currently the key near-term risk equities face.
\n
“The buy-the-dip strategy still works but there (are) very specific things that are lingering that need to be cleared first,” Snyder said.
\n
Additional risks analysts run the gamut from a recent surge in energy prices to worries over the meltdown of heavily indebted Chinese property developer China Evergrande Group. The S&P 500 is up 15.7% so far this year.
\n
Buying the dip has “certainly worked for people over the last 10 years,” said JJ Kinahan, chief market strategist at TD Ameritrade in Chicago. However, “at some point things stop working, especially when people do them time after time.”
\n
One scenario outlined by Morgan Stanley’s strategists sees the S&P 500 falling by about 10% as the Fed tightens monetary policy due to rising inflationary pressures. In a second scenario, the economy and earnings slow as the Fed tightens, leading to a 20% swoon.
\n
“Bottom line: faster tapering with a greater deceleration in growth implies a greater than 10% correction,” Morgan Stanley analysts said.
\n
Despite those worries, however, historical evidence shows that a market powered by strong momentum tends to keep rising. The S&P 500 has notched a positive fourth quarter nearly 80% of the time in years during which it has climbed more than 12.5% in the first nine months, according to LPL’s Detrick, delivering a median fourth-quarter gain of 5.2%.
\n
Seasonal trends also could provide reasons to buy sooner rather than later. While September lived up to its historical reputation of being the weakest month with a 4.8% decline, October is traditionally stronger, with the seventh-highest average gains for the S&P 500 since 1950, according to the Stock Trader’s Almanac.
\n
November ranks second in monthly performance, with the index rising 1.7% on average, and December third, with equities rising 1.5%, according to the almanac.
\n
Goldman Sachs is among the banks calling for more gains.
It will likely make more concessions over time, such as allowing developers to provide third-party payment options, Nispel said.
\n
“We expect regulation to take time to implement, and believe Apple’s competitive advantage is unlikely to be substantially harmed,” he added.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Stock Is an Attractive Buy, Says KeyBanc.
