The company blamed the impact of the tight labor market for the disappointing results.</li>\n <li>The UPS CEO presented a more optimistic view of the coming months, saying the company plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers to handle the added demand that comes with the holidays.</li>\n <li>\"Even in this tight labor market, I feel very good about where we are,\" she said.</li>\n <li>On the overall supply-chain problems that have dogged the economy since the COVID re-opening, Tomé predicted that the bottlenecks would last for \"awhile,\" although she wouldn't specify just how long that would be.</li>\n <li>\"These issues have been a long time in coming and it's going to take all of us working together to clear the blockages,\" she said.</li>\n <li>Commenting on the firm's longer-term strategy, Tomé reported that the company remains focused on enterprise customers and sees growth for their business as consumers continue to shift more toward e-commerce.</li>\n <li>UPS fell in sympathy with FDX earlier this week, following that company's profit warning.
