Meanwhile, the iShares China Large-Cap ETF is off around 2%. Here is where markets stand early Monday: (Terence Gabriel) ***** DOW INDUSTRIALS: ABOUT TO BE LOUD AND CLEAR? (0900 EDT/1300 GMT) Over the past three to four years, action in the Dow Jones Industrial Average may have traced out a megaphone pattern. Thus, it be nearing an important juncture as it flirts with the resistance line from its early 2018 high: This line, drawn across its May 2021 high, on a weekly basis, shows resistance at roughly 35,750 on an arithmetic chart, and 35,850 using log-scaling (pictured). The blue-chip average ended Friday at 35,515, or only around 0.6%-0.9% from these levels. Meanwhile, the momentum picture may also be telling. The momentum oscillator is showing a pattern of divergence, while trapped between converging trend lines on a multi-week/month basis. Of note, in the wake of weekly divergence, momentum study support line breaks in October 2018, and February 2020, developed into what would become major Dow declines. Therefore, the Dow may need to quickly breakout above the resistance line, confirmed by a similar up-turn in momentum, to add confidence in a continued advance. Conversely, a Dow failure at the resistance, coupled with momentum taking out its support line, may, instead, highlight risks for a significant reversal. In any event, with CBT e-mini Dow Futures suggesting the DJI will dip around 125 points in the initial throes of Monday's regular session, momentum readings appear poised to kick off the week on the back foot.
