In a press conference Wednesday, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the inflation situation is “slightly worse” than it was at the central bank’s December meeting and signaled the first rate hike since 2018 will happen “soon.”</p><p>Uncertainty over a potential Russian invasion of Ukraine is also casting a pall, analysts said. Russia is a major energy exporter and oil prices have remained high even as global stocks have fallen. A pullback of more than 20% such as this is often seen as marking the start of a bear market.</p><p>In the bond markets, the yield on the one-year Treasury note climbed 0.072 percentage point to 0.747%, while the yield on the 10-year note stood at 1.848%,Tradeweb data showed.
